Turns out that by the time the renovation of his house got underway, Daisy's Pet Playground - Jewell's expansive vision for a boarding and daycare utopia - was already up and running. "It was all built and laid out for what I would want for my dogs based on everything that I saw at other facilities around town," he says. Doors officially opened

Daisy clientele list grew to an average of 80 pets per day - and upwards of 150.

Interestingly, Jewell finds that running Daisy's is "eerily similar" to children's daycare. "We'll have owners that drop their dog off and cry [because they're so attached]," he explains. "But what's truly rewarding is that we've gotten notes and calls from owners because they're so happy that they saw their dog playing when we've posted videos." And that's one of the keys to the success of the facility. The strategy that Jewell employs groups dogs together to exercise and play throughout the day - as much as each dog will tolerate. "You get the energy out - they're a different kind of tired and more likely to just sleep," he notes. "When we shut the lights off to go home, it gets quiet."

Currently, Daisy's Pet Playground features five indoor playgrounds (with five more planned) and nine outside playgrounds as well as 65 kennels of all sizes (soon to be 89 total). In addition to very affordable rates for boarding and daycare, the facility also offers expert grooming and training - it's a virtual one-stop shop for keeping your pet happy and healthy. And keep in mind that Daisy's is not limited to caring for dogs. According to Jewell, the facility will board just about any animal so long as there's room for it.

Bella!

SIX-YEAR-OLD BLACK LAB COMPLETES 30TH HALF MARATHON, SHOWS NO SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN

There are energetic dogs and then there's Bella. Putting most human runners to shame, the tireless black lab from Evansville recently completed her 30th half marathon (she's also panted her way through three full marathons) alongside owner Elizabeth Morgan - who nearly quit racing before adopting Bella from the Vanderburgh Humane Society back in 2015. The pair quickly bonded and soon enough became running partners; having such a motivated fourlegged friend by her side inspired Morgan to embrace the sport again and overcome injury concerns. But she simply couldn't have imagined the impact her now six-year-old best bud's achievements would make on other runners - and animal lovers in general. "Everybody knows who she is," Morgan says, "and when we travel, people from all over stop and ask, 'Is that Bella?'" Safe to say that she's become something of a celebrity with a feature on the Today show and a write-up in Runner's World, among other high profile coverage of her incredible story. Of course, like the rest of us, Bella hasn't been immune to the effects of the pandemic; most races were wiped off the schedule through 2020, a source of frustration for such an active dog. And Morgan, too, truly misses hitting the road every weekend to compete and add to their medal shelves. But they've continued to train together and run the odd race here and there. In fact, two upcoming half marathons in Louisville (11/8) and Lexington (11/22) are on the agenda - which should help ease Bella's restlessness. "She is eager and ready to go out the door every morning - she follows me around the house until I get my shoes on," Morgan notes. And there's even more cause for excitement with a potential reality TV show deal in the works. Morgan recently interviewed with casting directors for a spot on The Pack, an international dog-duo competition from the producers of Naked & Afraid that will air on Amazon Prime. And get this: the winners receive $500,000 plus an additional $250,000 to award to an animal charity of their choice. Which makes this a good time to highlight Bella's history of giving back. To date, she's raised an astounding $10,000 for the VHS - a sure sign of gratitude for the excellent care she received before finding her forever home. Somewhere down the road Bella will transition to a more lax lifestyle but for now, it's all systems go. Frankly, she enjoys her post-race ice cream cone too much to stop. So if you happen to be in Kentucky this month, check out this wonder of a dog at either of the aforementioned races and watch Bella navigate 13.1 miles like it's a walk in the park. Shadow! EVER-SMILING RESCUE DOG COMFORTS FORT BRANCH FAMILY DURING TIME OF GRIEF AND UNCERTAINTY

An avid runner and animal lover, Stacy Singleton was turned on to the Vanderburgh Humane Society's Cardio for Canines program last January by a friend who was a regular at the weekend exercise sessions for the shelter's adoptable dogs. And that's where she first met Shadow, the big, furry bundle of energy that would ultimately help to heal a family struggling with unexpected adversity. Her attachment was immediate. "Each Saturday morning I couldn't wait to go back and see him," Singleton says, "but I didn't want to adopt him. But I did think that I would promote him on my Facebook and keep going until I found him a home." After all, Stacy and her husband Rob already had two horses, an elderly dog and two cats at their Fort Branch Home - not to mention teenaged triplets. Seemed there just wasn't room for Shadow. Indeed, it looked like the loveable 8-year-old Shepherd mix was about to be passed over again - at the time he was the VHS's longest running resident - but his winning, ever-present smile kept flashing through Singleton's mind. So when the pandemic hit and the shelter had to find fosters for all the dogs, she volunteered to take him in. "From the day Shadow came to our house, it was like he had lived there forever - it was just amazing," Singleton notes. In fact, the whole family was smitten, so in April they signed the paperwork to adopt Shadow - unaware just how much life was about to change. After returning from a family vacation in July, the Singletons' son Jeffrey noticed lumps in his neck and was immediately taken to a pediatrician who made a sobering diagnosis: stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma. Just turned 16, Jeffrey had developed a huge mass in his chest and lungs which required intensive chemo treatments followed by radiation. Trips to Riley Hospital for Children up in Indianapolis were frequent, leaving the whole family exhausted and gravely concerned. But through it all, Shadow kept smiling and staying close by Jeffrey's side, a ray of sunshine during such a traumatic time. "Shadow has just taken to him," Singleton says, fighting back tears. "Sometimes Jeffrey will sleep for a couple of days when he doesn't feel well and Shadow just piles right up on his chest and lays with him. He's been so sweet and so good and brought our family so much laughter." To document Jeffrey's progress, a cancer hashtag has been

created - #JeffreysJourney - so everyone can follow up on his

a tribute to

MOOKIE

SWEET AMERICAN BULLDOG HAD A ROUGH START IN LIFE BUT SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST

In a perfect world, all pets would be granted a loving, conscientious owner from day one, but unfortunately that's not always the case. Mookie, an American Bulldog who called Evansville home up until a recent terminal bout with cancer, was a prime example of a sweet, wonderful dog that was initially dealt a bad hand, having been housed in less than ideal conditions for the first period of his life. And then things got even worse. After being moved to a different location, he was viciously attacked by the other dogs at the residence, bruised and bloodied and left for dead. But lucky for Mookie, local bar owner TJ Tanoos - who also owned the home next door to his north side business where the tenants caring for him resided - came upon the awful scene and immediately rushed Mookie to an overnight pet emergency center. "They stitched him up and then the next day I took him to my vet at East Side Animal Hospital and he was there for almost two months - his jaw was broken and there were so many bite marks," Tanoos recalls. Having recently lost a beloved Pit Bull and struggling with the deep void that a pet's death so often creates, Tanoos made the decision to take Mookie home with him after the long recovery - and give that boy the life that he so truly deserved. "He was always the best dog - always loving and fun to be around," he says. "We had about two and half great years with him, and I would suggest to anyone that they should get an American Bulldog." But sadly, Mookie's time in the sun was short-lived. He started getting sick and Tanoos noticed that he was drinking a lot of water and urinating often early signs of cancer, as it turned out. Determined to give Mookie the best chance to beat the odds, Tanoos took him to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Louisville for surgery but the cancer ultimately spread to his liver and there was no choice but to euthanize an agonizing yet merciful decision. "He was ready to go," recalls Tanoos. "But he's in a better place. I always think that our pets go to the Rainbow Bridge - I believe that all dogs have souls just like humans do."

You can’t go wrong with a pumpkin dessert in the fall! This Pumpkin

PUMPKIN SPICE CHIA PUDDING

1 SERVING

want to make the coconut whipped cream, an easy sub is the So Delicious CocoWhip (found in the freezer section). It doesn't contain hydrogenated vegetable oil or high fructose corn syrup like other commonly-used whipped toppings.

For more recipes or meal ideas you can follow Lindsay Rasure on Instagram: @cleanbitelife or her Facebook group: Clean Bite Life

Ingredients for pudding: •

2/3 c. dairy free milk (I used cashew milk)

1 RX Nut Butter individual packet (Honey Cinnamon variety)

3 T. chia seeds

1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

Ingredients for coconut whipped cream: •

1 can of full fat coconut milk (sit in fridge for 24 hours)

Maple syrup

Vanilla

Directions for coconut whipped cream: 1.

Place a small mixing bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes.

2.

After bowl has sat in freezer, open the can of coconut milk and scoop out just the top fat portion. (You can save the coconut water for smoothies!)

3.

Whip the coconut fat for about 30 seconds. Add in a splash of vanilla and about 1 tsp. of maple syrup (give or take depending on how sweet you want it). Continue whipping until it is all combined.

4.

Whipped coconut cream will last for several days stored in a covered container in the fridge.

Directions for pudding: 1.

In a small bowl whisk together milk, peanut butter, and pumpkin pie spice until it all comes together.

2.

Add in 3 T. of chia seeds and stir until everything is combined. Set aside for 5 minutes so the pudding can thicken.

3.

After 5 minutes give the pudding a couple more stirs and top with coconut whipped cream!

*This pudding would also be great as a parfait. Alternate layers of pudding and coconut whipped cream until it fills a small glass to the top!

MS. WHITE LIGHT

BY PIGASUS PICTURES A C C L AIMED F EATU RE FI LM S HOT E NT I RE LY I N I N D IAN A GETS GLOBA L RE LE A S E , I N T ER N ATION AL DI S T RI BU T I ON Comprising a production team of purely Hoosier-based talent, Pigasus Pictures recently announced their second global feature film release following the overwhelming success of 2017's The Good Catholic, starring iconic actor Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, The Color Purple). Ms. White Light, shot entirely in Indiana, tells the story of Lex Cordova, "a woman with a unique ability to connect with the dying, but difficulty connecting with everyone else." Starring Roberta Colindrez and backed by a dynamic ensemble cast including Carson Meyer, Zachary Spicer, John Ortiz and Judith Light (of Who's the Boss fame), Ms. White Light received an "Official Selection" at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival and an "Audience Award" at the Torino Film Festival. The movie was written and directed by Paul Shoulberg and produced by Zachary Spicer, John Robert Armstrong and Gordon Strain. Says Armstrong, "Rarely is the topic of dying the actual subject of a movie, people shy away from it. But this film, and Paul's writing, gives us the words that we all wish we'd had when we needed them." Oh, and it's hilarious, too. Pigasus Pictures has produced five films to date, two of which - The Miseducation of Bindu and So Cold the River - are slated for release in 2021. And the team continues to champion their Indiana roots through Project Pigasus, an annual high school screenplay competition which grants the winner the amazing opportunity to see their creation brought to life via a professionally-shot short film with students and production crew working side by side. Ms. White Light is now available on all transactional streaming platforms.

NEWS4U NOVEMBER 2020 | ENTERTAINMENT

with Marisa Patwa BODY SWITCHING, GIRL FIGHTS AND A DYSFUNCTIONAL MONARCHY: NOVEMBER IS ALL ABOUT VARIETY

FREAKY (11/13)

Comedy heavyweight Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, The Society) re-visit the Hollywood classic Freaky Friday with a horror twist this fall. In this iteration, Newton’s awkward, shy character switches bodies with a bloodthirsty serial killer, played by Vaughn. It’s also a Blumhouse Productions film, which has been delivering some of the most ingenious slasher material in the last few years, including Sinister (2012) and Get Out (2017). But with lines like “Honestly, if this were a horror movie, I’d be one of the first ones to get killed,” this film is more likely to have a cheeky black comedy feel like Happy Death Day (2017), also produced by Blumhouse. And If Vaughn is anywhere near as good as Rob Schneider was at playing a teenage girl trapped in a grown man’s body like in That Hot Chick (2002), this is sure to be a bloody good time. You can catch Vince Vaughn doing a cheer routine to prove his teenage identity in theaters on Friday, November 13.

CHICK FIGHT (11/13)

Malin Ackerman, Bella Thorne and Alec Baldwin team up as a triple threat treat in this comedy about Ackerman’s down on her luck character joining an underground all-female fight club. Baldwin, of course, takes on the role of the drunk, Hawaiian shirt-wearing trainer. Ackerman goes up against Thorne’s grungy, street-style fighter who also has the fiery quips, calling her “mom jeans” at one point. Burn. It feels like a light-hearted take on Fight Club (1999) and I, for one, will enjoy watching these actresses give it their all in these fight scenes. The film will be released in theaters and digitally on November 13. And I have a feeling it will be a knockout.

THE CROWN - SSN 4 (11/15)

With movie premieres still being pushed back from the pandemic, let’s take a look at one of the most decadent and cleverly written series ever to come out of Netflix. This fall, we get season four of The Crown - and the pleasure of watching the tragic marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles unfold, played exquisitely by actors Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor. Gillian Anderson also provides political power through her portrayal of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, while Olivia Coleman and Helena Bonham Carter resume their roles of Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, respectively. While this show can be dark, cold and slow at times, it's an intrinsically fascinatingly and beautiful depiction of a fantasy life rooted in reality. The fourth season streams on November 15.

UNSOLVED DEATH MURDER CRIMES (COMPLETE)

Get in the mood for the holiday season with a compact true crime satire series about two podcasters (who totally aren’t spoofs of the My Favorite Murder crew) attempting to solve a murder in a snowy rural town - an aural treat for the intersection of the Venn diagram of folk who listen to true crime and audio fiction. It’s broad, it’s goofy and generally not mean-spirited save for some misguided punchlines about alcoholism that feel like the creators think the show is less aggressive than it actually is. Even with its lumps, UDMC is a fun, bite-sized fiction podcast that knows to get out when the gettin’s good. udmcpodcast.com

THE DREAM (BETWEEN SEASONS)

If you haven’t heard of The Dream, I’m jealous of the journey you’re about to go on. We’re approaching the time of year when podcast journalists start compiling “best of [insert year]" lists and The Dream’s likely to be on all of them. The first season covering the sociological reasons and legal loopholes that lead to shady multi-level marketing schemes becoming massive was an absolute critical darling of 2018. Season two, which ended early this year, set its sights on the wellness industry. Essential oils, vague crystals, host Jane Marie’s taking it all on. witnesspodcasts.com/shows/the-dream

WILD THING: SPACE INVADERS (WEEKLY)

Speaking of 2018, back then I sang the praises of Wild Thing season one, a show about a journalist with a distant relative huge in the Bigfoot believer community using her last name to get access to some wild parts of the Sasquatch believer community. Season two is here and it’s about UFOs, aliens, abductions, and everything in between. Laura Krantz knocked it out of the park covering Bigfoot and the community surrounding Sasquatch in the first season to the point I audibly shouted “yes” when the cover art for Wild Thing updated to reflect a second season was coming. foxtopus.ink/

THE CRYPTONATURALIST (BIWEEKLY)

If you want something equally calming and (not too often) unnerving, The Cryptonaturalist provides in spades. Each episode delivers fascinating tales of mythical creatures through the soothing narration of the titular character, a naturalist by way of cryptozoology. Everything is packaged to feel like a David Attenborough nature documentary delivered by way of Bigfoot. The creatures and locations are as fantastical as the host's voice is captivating. The show also features a wonderful break segment that spotlights short fiction and poetry in a similar manner to how Welcome to Night Vale showcases music. Look Who's B itching!

Local babies sound off on the state of the world...and each other JIMMY G: For better or worse, it's FINALLY here. KATY P: The new Kanye album finally dropped?!

JOEY K: Get with the times, Katy - that was over three months ago. TIMMY J: You're the one that's out to lunch, Joey. Kanye postponed the release to avoid a chart battle with Taylor Swift's Folklore. Yeezy got queasy, yo! JUDY D: Let's stay on track here. I believe Jimmy is referring to the presidential election.

JOEY K: If only Kanye hadn't missed the deadline to appear on the majority of ballots we'd be saved from this awful choice between two old geezers.

KATY P: Sure, the guy who stormed the stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs would be more suited to run the country. Makes total sense

JIMMY G: Come on, it was in defense of BeyoncĂŠ, for Christ's sake. Totally justified! JUDY D: She is a queen, no doubt. But let's stay focused on Trump and Biden.

BOBBY B: BeyoncĂŠ may be a queen, but Trump is KING! KATY P: Sounds about right seeing as he's trying to run our country like a dictator.

TIMMY J: Sorry, I hate to digress, but does the world really need another spiritual album from Kanye? Donda: With Child has train wreck written all over it. JUDY D: While I'm frustrated by your full-on ADD, that's actually an excellent question. Pondering...

BOBBY B: Here's an even better question: Does the world need a 77-year-old president who's just a pawn in the progressive Democrats' evil agenda to put Kamala in power when he suspiciously croaks? JIMMY G: Would it really be suspicious if an old man kicked the bucket? TIMMY J: What would really be suspicious is if that new Kanye album went to number one. If it's even real, that is. KATY P: What's totally real is the danger that we'll be in if King Trump gets re-elected. JUDY D: Some people are saying that he rushed Amy Coney Barrett through to ensure a Supreme Court ruling in his favor if the election is contested. JIMMY G: Frankly, I'd like to know what Yeezy has to say about all of this. He and Trump were tight there for awhile. BOBBY B: What EVERYONE should be saying is thank god we had a genius businessman in the White House for the last four years who made this country great again! NEWS4U NOVEMBER 2020 | SUBARU CARES

ROMAIN SUBARU PRESENTS:

Subaru is much more than just a car company. In addition to building great, longlasting vehicles designed to keep you and your family safe, they are focused on making the world a better place through the SUBARU LOVE PROMISE. It's a simple but impactful vision to show love and respect to all people at every interaction with Subaru. With the help of retailers like Romain, the company is setting an example for others to follow, partnering to address pressing issues including the environment, the health and wellness of our communities, world hunger, the pursuit of knowledge and the safety and health of all animals. Romain Subaru is pleased to present the third in a series of local profiles focused on community leaders who are a positive force and a prime example of what can be achieved when everyone works together for the common good.

SUBARU LOVES TO HELP featuring Ron Ryan

Executive Director, Boys & Girls Club of Evansville

Ron Ryan used to be just like the kids that walk into his Boys & Girls Club facility every day. In fact, he acknowledges that the renowned youth serving agency "pretty much saved my life." It's a common thread among former members, many of whom would have been lost without the support of the Boys & Girls Club and are now paying it forward by helping to further the organization's mission. Ryan, who's been Executive Director of the Evansville branch for 17 years now, has truly returned the kindness, striving to ensure that every kid he oversees ultimately becomes a productive member of society after going through the various life-enhancing programs on offer at the club. What Inspires you to be a part of the Boys & Girls Club? It's the programs that we have to offer. When I see these kids walk through the door I see myself every day. I want to see them walk in with a smile and walk out with a smile. That's our goal here every day - to treat them like our brothers and sisters. What are some of the programs offered at the Boys & Girls Club? We have SMART Moves which is a drug and alcohol and teenage pregnancy prevention program; we have bowling programs; we have financial literacy classes; we have art classes; we have career launch programs; we have cooking classes; we have

speech classes, resume writing; and our tutoring program, I would venture to say, is second to none. What excites you about the future of the Boys & Girls Club? One of the things that I really want to see and our board wants to see is we need to expand; we need to get into other neighborhoods that need us in this community. Can you share a story about a Boys & Girls Club member that has benefited from your services? One in particular is a young man that grew up in the club. We come to find out that he's living in a closet in a church at night dumpster diving for food. Dad was out of the picture; mom was on drugs and couldn't take care of him. And he shares with all of us that we're the ones that made a difference in his life. That's why we do what we do every day. For more info, visit romainsubaru.com. NEWS4U NOVEMBER 2020 | OPINION

THE PROS & THE CONS with Barold Hume

There's no debate: Trump vs. Biden Pt. 2 Chances are that the absolute debacle of a presidential "debate" that occurred on September 29 may well be the only face-off between Trump and Biden prior to the election. As I type this, a proposed virtual confrontation has been rejected by DJT; presumably, because it might prove more challenging to continually interrupt the proceedings in that format. After all, a moderator could simply mute the president or disconnect his feed, correct? I don't pretend to know all the ins and outs of Zoom or whatever computer wizardry might be involved. But here's the thing: it doesn't matter one bit. We didn't gain any real insight from either candidate during that initial showdown, anyway. While Biden may have adhered more closely to the agreed-upon stipulations of the debate, it's not like pearls of wisdom fell from his withering lips or anything - when he was able to get a word in edge-wise, that is. No, this was more like a schoolyard brawl, one side trying to out-macho the other. Hardly surprising, really. And highly discouraging. But as I said, it doesn't much matter. Everyone's so entrenched in

their particular camp right now that no amount of civilized discourse would seemingly make even a dent in a voter's thinking. Then again, it's been said that about 4% of the public is undecided - which seems awfully high, actually. The choices are so stark, you know? Black and white. And the whole Covid-19 situation has only deepened the political divide in this country with both the left and right using it as touch paper to light a fire under their bases. But alas, the end is near; November 3rd is within sight. Then what? That remains to be seen, but all signs point to an ugly conclusion to this whole thing. In fact, it may be best for the "winner" to go the virtual route and stay out of the fray - address the country from an undisclosed bunker until the inevitable riots calm down. Sad, but that's pretty much where we're at right now. Well, it depends on your viewpoint, of course. For many, this is a crucial juncture in America's history - a reckoning of sorts that's been a long time coming. While others just want to bury their head in the sand and pretend that everything's cool. The Trump/Biden face-off was a bust, sure, but there's no debate about the importance of the coming election.

have seen prominent figures leave their party and have been forced to scale back unpopular amendments to "defund the police." The Defund the Police Movement is a loser all day long for Dems - and in a city that is at best left of center, and at worst moderate, when looking through the prisms of the county party, they should know this. But we'll get to that later. First, let's talk about Dave Wedding. Wedding, elected twice as the Vanderburgh County sheriff running as a Democrat, decided to switch parties. He was arguably the most noticeable face representing the party for county Dems. Wedding cited flag burning, people defying God, and being tired of seeing "fires set in our streets" as

NEWS4U NOVEMBER 2020 | MUSIC REVIEWS

MACHINE GUN KELLY Tickets To My Downfall Bad Boy/Interscope Records

4/5 Both multi-talented and pottymouthed, weed-smoking rapper MGK is known for many things, including being comedian Pete Davidson's best friend. And at the end of 2020, he is now making history within his own discography with his first Billboard number one album. And he shows off a versatile range, growing his fanbase and expanding now with his first punk rock album. MGK first hypnotized me with the music video for “My Bloody Valentine,” a steamy, fun and a little psychotic display of him and his new girlfriend, actress Megan Fox. It’s also the brainchild of Baker and Blink 182’s Travis Barker, who also plays drums and produced the album. I was instantly enamored with the middle school moody boy band sound that used to soothe me when my crush wouldn’t text me back. MGK also slayed the VMAs with a performance of that and "My Ex’s Best Friend,” featuring Blackbear. I am all in favor of artists playing with different sounds and Machine Gun Kelly can definitely rock them both. - Marisa Patwa

ALICIA KEYS Alicia RCA Records

4 .5/5 Alicia Keys has been gifting us with sweet melodies and power ballads since the late '90s and I think we’re privileged she is still doing so, especially with a treasure like her first self-titled album, Alicia. And we’re back to the piano and bass drum with this collection of pop-soul songs that make the heart feel warm. But Keys herself insists this album is not meant to have a genre, representing more of a collective mood. And she delivers, from the Caribbean feels of “Underdog” to the folksy “Gramercy Park” - she even samples a little dub in “Wasted Energy.” My favorite: “So Done” featuring Khalid. It’s a sweet and sexy, stripped down duet with hypnotic snaps. And it’s paired with a powerful music video, with a message to the youth on living the way you want without limitations or judgment - not to mention some stunt doubles on motorcycles straight riding through the dance floor at prom. - Marisa Patwa

BOB MOULD Blue Hearts Merge Records

MAX Colour Vision Colour Vision/Red Music

4.5/5 I had the pleasure of seeing MAX live at the Jingle Jam concert at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis when he opened for Lizzo last December and his vocal talent is truly unmatched. What I like about MAX is that he isn’t just a pop star. He’s still talented and fashionable and his personality radiates, but there is something also lowkey about him as an artist that is comforting. And with this third studio album, I hope he finally gets the recognition he deserves. “The Weekend” is a good indie and reggae mix with a sick rap feature from bbno$ and catchy lyrics like, “I've been working for the weekend /But that weekend never came /Will you pat my back tomorrow /If I break my back today.” I feel that. “Checklist” featuring Chromeo is a fun listen while “Blueberry Eyes” featuring Sugar from BTS is a sugary sweet jazz beat that makes you sway in your sweat. MAX also sings a verse in Korean. Swoon. “Acid Dreams” gives me some Bazzi vibes while “Love Me Less” featuring Quinn XCII is probably the most popular song on this album and a must-listen. My favorite: “Missed Calls” featuring ultra-talented Haley Kiyoko which has them both delivering some gorgeous falsettos. - Marisa Patwa

4/5 Bob Mould is not happy. The former frontman for post-punk's legendary Hüsker Dü may have let a little light seep in on last year's uncharacteristically upbeat Sunshine Rock, but the madness of 2020 has put that brief fuzzy feeling to bed. If anything, Mould sounds angrier than ever even at the ripe old age of 60 he's blazing right past all the young guns out there, rekindling the fire of 1984's landmark Zen Arcade, the frenetic double album that truly put the Hüskers on the map. Remarkably, Blue Hearts matches both its pace and passion, only coming up for air discriminately over the course of 14 breathless tracks. Typical contrarian that he is, Mould opens the proceedings with "Heart on My Sleeve," a slow acoustic lament that calls out climate change deniers, before going full board into a trio of distorted speed trips - "Next Generation," "American Crisis" and "Fireball" - that explicitly carve out his take on environmental and political issues. But while the lyrical content seems paramount here, Mould's relentless vocals are mostly buried in the wash of feedback - just like Hüsker used to, er, dü it. It's more about the aural onslaught, about getting swept up in the sonic blast. Closing tracks "Racing to the End," "Little Pieces," and "Password to My Soul" leave you pleasantly fried before Bob gently brings down the curtain with the soothing "The Ocean." - Johnny Fletcher

Blues with Bragin PUSCIFER Existential Reckoning Alchemy Recordings

3/5 The fourth album from Los Angeles “super group” Puscifer, led by Tool and A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan, is perhaps best described by the title of its third track, “The Underwhelming.” Though I cannot outright say this music is bad, I can at the very least say Keenan is not at the top of his game on Existential Reckoning. Featuring lyrics dealing with a lot of generic science fiction prog rock tropes, the songwriting sounds largely uninspired. If Keenan is reckoning with something, I’m not sure what it is. The production and arrangements chosen here make the album a bit of a slog, as the songs are slow, lengthy, and ripe with default software recording sounds. The album shines when there are moments of noisy experimentalism, but those moments happen so infrequently that they are forgotten amongst the indistinguishable tracks. - Russ Finn

BARTEES STRANGE Live Forever Memory Music

3/5 If you’ve kept up with indie rock journalism on Twitter this summer, you’ve possibly heard of one of the most buzzed-about artists of 2020: Washington D.C.’s Bartees Strange. On his debut album Live Forever, Strange delivers a good mix of indie rock anthems that frequently bend genres toward hip hop, folk, and soul. Though the album is ambitious in its genre-hopping, I can’t help but feel the songwriting is a touch too bland. When Strange hits his hardest on standout tracks “Mustang” and “Boomer,” he unfortunately comes across as a pale imitation of TV on The Radio or Bloc Party - both of which he cites as influences. Live Forever is a solid album from a rising indie rock star, but I do hope Strange dedicates more time to transcending his influences in the future and less time doing PR. - Russ Finn

YUNG GRAVY Gasanova Universal Music Group

3.5/5 I cannot deny the fun of listening to an album like Gasanova by 24-year-old Minnesota rapper Yung Gravy. Every beat bangs, and all of the songs are packed with goofy fratrap humor and catchy hooks. Sure, there isn’t a lot of artistic merit in a song like “Martha Stewart” (a delightful song about Yung Gravy’s love for cougars, moms, and, of course, Martha Stewart), but that’s not the point or intention of Yung Gravy. The only critique to offer of such a novelty recording is Yung Gravy isn’t that great of a rapper himself - the featured artists end up carrying the album. But who cares? Yung Gravy and his fans certainly don’t. Gasanova isn’t a craft brew, it’s a White Claw, and it serves a purpose of getting the party started as quickly as possible. - Russ Finn

KURT ALLEN Whiskey, Women & Trouble Self-Released A road warrior who expertly melds bluesrock, roots, jazz and funk, Kurt Allen comes out with guns blazing on “Graveyard Blues” featuring heavy guitar that matches the theme about fretting over living a full life. “Watch Yo Step” features solid drumming from Lester Estelle, Jr. The song seems to delicately straddle the line between jazz and blues. Trumpet from Pete Carroll and trombone from Trevor Turla add a nice touch near the song’s end. The slow ballad “How Long” features opening guitar reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan. The title track sounds like a more modern version of a song from a 1950s sock hop. Greg Kew’s funky bass on the appropriately named “Funkalicious” blends well with the horns of Carroll and Turla as Allen discusses his favorite foods. The tender ballad “Count On Me” features Allen singing about how he’ll always support his beloved. The saxophone from Beaux Lux and funky bass from Kew on “Roadrunner” complement Allen’s lyrics about always moving. New Orleans influence abounds in “Voodoo Queen” with a stark contrast to Allen’s blistering guitar. Closer “Sweet T” is a rocking tune with everyone cutting loose. For more info, visit KurtAllenMusic.com. - Paul Bragin

MARCUS KING El Dorado Fantasy Records Producer Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys brings us the genre-bending new album from guitar phenom Marcus King. “The Well” is a blues-rock tune with significant influence from The Black Keys that deals with a perennial topic of a musician raised in the church who turned to secular songs. The electric piano adds a nice touch to King’s gritty vocals about love, the simple joys of life and perseverance on “Wildflowers & Wine.” “One Day She’s Here” maintains a slightly funky beat while King sings about a woman who left without saying goodbye. The country-influenced “Sweet Mariona” boasts excellent steel guitar playing from Paul Franklin. “Beautiful Stranger” sounds like a gospel song with lyrics about drinking next to a potential love interest in a bar. The strings from Matt Combs on “Break” add a nice touch to sweet lyrics about an enduring love. The heavier tone of “Say You Will” and lyrics about traveling give the song a great road trip vibe. “Too Much Whiskey” will start your foot tapping and sounds like something funky from the 1970s with great blues harmonica. PAUL HOLLYFELD - 3.75

At 7% ABV and 70 IBUs, this IPA is not for the faint of heart. It has an amber hue, and pours a thin head. You may find notes of coriander with a hint of grapefruit on the nose. Once this ale hits the palate, it is pure IPA, showcasing its powerful 70 IBUs. The IPA bitterness lingers long after your last drink. If you like an IPA that really packs a punch, you should try a Rail Splitter.

METAZOA NAP IN THE HAMMOCK

PAUL HOLLYFELD - 3.5

Nap is a light, easy-drinking cream ale, that comes in at 4.8% ABV. It pours strawcolored with a thick white foam head. It has a bright fizziness on the palate, a light hop bitterness and finishes slightly malty. If you are into simple, easy-drinking light ales, you might want to try Nap in the Hammock from Metazoa.

PAUL BRAGIN - 3.75

3 FLOYDS BARBARIAN HAZE IPA

PAUL HOLLYFELD - 4.75

Barbarian Haze is a great example of a hazy IPA, weighing in at 6.5% ABV. It has a hazy tangerine color and pours with a thin head. Citrus and mango on the nose give way to notes of grapefruit on the palate, and just a hint of hop bitterness. It finishes very clean, leaving you to look forward to your next sip. If you are a fan of the NEIPA style, I urge you to find this one and try for yourself.

A thick, off-white head tops this coppercolored IPA and recedes very gradually. A decent amount of pine and citrus hop scents fills the nose. A strong burst of hop flavors hits the tongue with the first taste and continues into the very long finish. People who enjoy IPAs should definitely try this. Pair it with a wide array of spicy cuisines like Mexican, Chinese, New Orleans Cajun or Thai food.

A thick white head crowns this beer when poured into a traditional English pub glass and stays for a long time. A generous amount of malt on the nose gives the beer a sweet smell. Sweet malt hits the tongue first, followed by brief hop notes, with malt and hops going back and forth in the finish. The slightly lower alcohol content leads to easy drinkability. Pair it with pizza, pretzels, fried chicken or Gouda cheese.

This beer pours a dark amber color. It has a nice hops flavor that's not very overbearing. I notice it has an ABV of 7%. Usually when beers get in that range, you can sort of taste the higher alcohol. What I really enjoy with this beer is that it has a light smoky flavor. As an added bonus, it's brewed up in Indianapolis.

This is a slightly hazy yellow beer. I'm generally not a fan of cream ales as they remind me of college and drinking Little Kings, but I actually like this beer and consider it one of the better cream ales I've had. In fact, it's rather smooth and refreshing. I also like the larger pint can that Metazoa is known for; it's a nice change of pace.

A thick white head forms on this cloudy New England style IPA and never totally dissipates. Citrus and pine notes from the hops control the scent. The hop flavors remain with the first sip of the beer and last for a long time. Pair it with a variety of dishes like tacos, a burger with barbecue sauce, sausage, seafood such as fish and chips or ceviche. It could also work well with French Fries.

This is an amber-colored beer with an ABV of 6.5%. I can smell the fresh hops right off the bat. I like the sweet hops flavor and overall, I really enjoy this beer, but I'll always compare everything from 3 Floyds to their classic Zombie Dust. I consider this a lighter version of it. It's very smooth to drink and, of course, I always enjoy the artwork from this brewer.

NEW BELGIUM ATOMIC PUMPKIN

to have a heavier, malty body, perfect for the cooler weather. The Atomic Pumpkin has a light orange hue, and even with a vigorous pour (often recommended for pumpkin ales), this one produces a thin head. Subtle notes of cinnamon and pumpkin on the nose give way to a smooth, slightly sweet maltiness on the palate. It finishes with a peppery, spicy warmth that lingers, thanks to the addition of chiles and a 6.4% ABV.

PAUL HOLLYFELD - 4.5

Fall would be incomplete without having a few seasonal pumpkin ales to enjoy. These are considered a fruit beer, though they tend

PAUL BRAGIN - 2.5

A thick white head rests on the beer and evaporates very slowly. The scent of pumpkin and spices used during brewing dominate the scent profile. The

initial tasting of the beer contains a balance of malt and hops, but the spices quickly return and stay in the very long finish. This beer will go well with a slice of pumpkin pie. It might also work well as an added ingredient in your favorite pumpkin pie recipe.

JABEZ MARTINEZ - 4

Here's another amber-colored beer. I can smell the spices right away and taste the all spice right off the bat. It says it's spicy and it's pretty noticeable but I've had hotter beers. Granted, you may not want to drink a bunch of these, but I still recommend that you give it a try as it's perfect for fall.

PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY.

Q: I think my boss fired me for no good reason, is it possible to sue for that? A: In Indiana, we operate under the “employment at-will” doctrine – meaning you can quit employment for any or no reason and your employer can terminate your employment for any or no reason. However, there are exceptions

to the “at-will” doctrine. For instance, your employer cannot be motivated to terminate your employment because of a Federally protected right including, but not limited to, your Race, Sex, Disability, Ethnicity and Religion. Also, an employer cannot terminate your employment in retaliation for you exercising your statutory right of making a workers' compensation claim. So, generally your employer does not need a “good reason” to terminate your employment, but there are exceptions to this general rule when an employer is motivated to terminate your employment for the wrong reasons. If you believe you have been discriminated against or wrongfully terminated, there are certain time deadlines that apply, so you should contact a lawyer immediately to help evaluate the merits of your claim and to advise you as to next steps.
