HOLLY & STEPHEN SMITH • Married September 3, 2016 • “The 4th of July had always been his favorite holiday. He made that clear from the start. He’s very patriotic, and he arranged to have a big party with all his friends every year (or one of them would host). I knew that the upcoming July 4th would be a big one for him for a long time coming, and I didn’t think anything of the preparations he was making. His friends were like his family and I thought the level of effort he was putting into it and his excitement to be completely normal. The evening of July 2, 2016, we all gathered at his friend’s house for the party. Everyone was there. All of his close friends. They were all just sitting around talking, having some drinks, listening to music, and generally enjoying themselves. As the sun went down, he went inside; I assumed to go visit the men’s room. A friend of his began passing out giant sparklers to everyone. I just thought, ‘Hey! Stephen is going to miss this!’ I still had no idea. After everyone’s sparklers were lit, suddenly the song “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” by The Temptations came blaring out of the window on the giant porch where everyone was standing. He came outside dressed in his best clothes, and immediately dropped to one knee in front of me. He brought out a tiny box and produced a ring. He said, “Everyone here right now knew that this was happening tonight, and they all wanted to be here for it. This is my family. I want you to be a part of it. Will you marry me?” I cried, of course. Then I said, “yes.” We were married on September 3, 2016 and we are expecting our first child.”
NATALIE & CODY LEE • Married November 5, 2016 • “October 10, 2015 was just a normal Saturday morning for me. I woke up, grabbed a coffee, and was at the salon just before 8 a.m. Which is exactly what Cody wanted. This Saturday morning was very special. Cody had been working for weeks on a very detailed scavenger hunt to propose to me that afternoon and wanted to make sure I suspected nothing. While I was at work, Cody had set up a group meeting with some of our closest friends and family. This meeting was very important. Everyone was given specific instructions on where to go and what to do when I arrived. Everyone took their clues and went to their specific destinations to wait for me.... The scavenger hunt began when I came home from work that afternoon. My little sister, Lauren, handed me a letter from Cody. This letter let me know that I had a busy afternoon planned and that I’d better get started. I fumbled around, tried asking my family what was going on, and then went with Lauren to find the first clue. It led me through some of our favorite places in Evansville, starting at the downtown Zuki and working back to the west side of Evansville. Everything went as smooth as Cody had planned it. Except Cody didn’t plan on being so anxious and nervous. While he paced around the living room of my parents’ home, I started to complete each clue faster and faster. I had figured out what was going on and was rushing to find the last clue. Everyone who had helped with the clues came back to the house to watch me find the final clue. The final clue led to the house with Cody in the front yard, inside of a giant box, wrapped like a Christmas gift. Christmas in October?? I had talked to Cody about a possible proposal on Christmas morning, my favorite holiday. I had no clue that he had already purchased the ring. When Lauren pulled into the driveway, I rushed out of the car and to the giant box where Cody was inside waiting. I began to cry tears of joy before he had even got out of the box. What came out of his mouth before he got on one knee was not planned. Cody said, “You’re my best friend and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” He then got on his knee and asked me to marry him.”

BARBARA & JOHN FORCUM • Married February 12, 1994 • “My husband proposed to me after six months of dating. I met him on New Year’s Eve, and I knew right then that I was going to marry him! I was sick the day he decided to ask, June 23, 1993. He had planned to ask me when I left work but instead he came to my parents’ house. When he showed up with roses, I knew it was the day! We ate and went looking for furniture. Every time I sat down, he knelt down in front of me and all I could think was, please don’t ask me at the Sears Home store! We got home, went to my room in the basement and he went down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. How could I say no? I loved this man dearly! He had had the ring in his pocket the entire time we were out! We married eight months later on February 12, 1994 and have been married for almost 23 years.”
HALEY & NATHANIEL DUCKWORTH • Married September 5, 2015 • “My husband and I have always had a love for the St. Louis Cardinals, so on July 4, 2014 we headed out for a day in St. Louis and an evening Cardinals game. Towards the 9th inning, we moved down closer to the field so we could see the fireworks at the end of the game. He proposed just as the finale started. It was perfect timing. Fireworks were going off like crazy, and it was the most magical moment of my life! The funniest part was that I was actually carrying my ring around all day in a backpack that I wore around St. Louis! I had no clue. He did so good!”
EMILY & ETHAN KELLNER • Married January 7, 2017 • “We met in the Indiana National Guard, my first day at the unit. I guess you can say that we joke so much that sometimes it’s hard for us to be serious! On our first date, I didn’t realize it was a date until the end when he shyly kissed me after walking me to my door. We knew early on that we wanted to be married. He kept joking about proposals. Threatening to do it in embarrassing ways or terrible places. He kept saying that the ring was in the glove compartment every time we got in the car. He would say that he was about to get on one knee whenever we went out to eat. One day we decided to have a really nice day to ourselves. We went to lunch then took a walk in downtown Indianapolis. On the Circle he got down on one knee. I thought he was joking. I really did. Even when he pulled out a ring I thought it was a fake or something. It took me a while but I finally realized he was serious, poor guy. When we announced that I said “yes,” I ended up telling everyone the story about how I didn’t believe him.” 12 | TRI-STATE BRIDE 2017

ALYSSA & JUSTIN WARD • Married July 19, 2014 • “My husband proposed to me two weeks after our son was born! I had absolutely no idea he was going to propose! My parents were at my house that evening when he came home and my stepdad asked him if he would like to go help him with a side job he was working on and of course my husband agreed. My mom assured me that she would watch the baby if I wanted to shower and get ready so that we could go to dinner when the guys were finished with the side job for the night. As I began getting ready my husband approached me saying that he had something to show me outside. So, of course he took my hand and we walked out the back door to the driveway. He motioned for me to look to my right down the driveway and there sat my dream car - a black Yukon Denali with “Alyssa will you marry me?” written on the windshield. As I turned back around he was on one knee asking me to marry him with my parents right there beside us in tears! Of course I cried and of course I said, “yes!” How couldn’t I? What girl do you know who gets her dream car AND a beautiful ring? Not to mention our beautiful son who just had been born! My parents were in on the plan the whole time and the guys didn’t go do a side job, but picked up my new ride from the dealership! I was beyond emotional and tears of happiness flowed! It was a perfect way to begin our new life together. Going on two-and-a-half years of marriage, and I still couldn’t be more thankful that I have been blessed with our beautiful son and an amazing husband!”
JESSICA & Lucas WOODFORD • Married August 13, 2016 • “My husband Lucas and I have been married since August of 2016. We got engaged on March 17 of last year, which just so happened to be our four month dating anniversary. We are high school sweethearts and always knew we’d get married one day. I knew that our time was coming but I just wasn’t sure when he’d propose. I certainly didn’t think it would happen on our anniversary because he had told me it would be on a day that I least expected it. So on the morning of March 17, I woke up completely oblivious to the fact that I might be getting engaged that day. It was a day like any other day. We both had class (we both attended USI) and we both had to tutor in the on-campus tutoring center. I went and said good morning to him in the tutoring center and asked him what our plans were for that night since it was our anniversary. He told me that I’d just have to wait and see. He always surprised me on our anniversary so I thought NOTHING of it. For lunch that day, I went and ate with his mom who was acting extremely strange. She was super excited and hyper but I still didn’t think anything of it. After lunch, I went back to my apartment and found two outfits on my bed with a rose that had a green piece of paper in the shape of a heart attached to it...”

SPECIAL FEATURE
WEDDING TRADITIONS: then & now BY: JACKIE DANIEL | MERCHANT & MARKETING COORDINATOR | ELLA PARK BRIDAL
You have been waiting your entire life for this moment. He bent down on one knee and asked for your hand in marriage. You have already spent months researching online and looking through magazines for wedding inspiration. Now, it is finally time to purchase the perfect dress for your big day. Did you ever wonder to yourself, “Why am I buying a bridal gown? How did any of these traditions even begin?”
1.

THE WHITE DRESS THAT CHANGED HISTORY
2. “Queen Victoria” by Rischgitz-Getty Images
THEN
Our history lesson begins about 180 years ago when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in St. James’s Palace, London on February 10, 1840. In today’s terms, the Queen made “headlines” when she insisted on wearing a white silk-satin gown for her wedding day. Up until the mid-19th century, brides wore their best dress in bold colors, like red. Because of how quickly white-colored fabrics would soil, this color was only attainable for the wealthy. It was not until decades later that the lack-of color would be the preferred choice for brides to resemble “purity and innocence.” Since then, she has been credited as the first royal to begin the white wedding dress trend among the Western Hemisphere.

3. “Essense of Australia D2258” Dress is shown in Champagne with Ivory Lace and Almond Tulle
NOW
Finding a dress in “white” might actually be harder nowadays but not because of soiling issues. Colored wedding gowns have made a big comeback. Ninety percent of our customers purchase a dress in either ivory or a color such as champagne, blush, and mocha. Both bring out the best in the bride’s coloring as it is softer than the harsh, blue undertones of white. Plus, most natural things are truly not “white,” like your eyeballs, teeth, and fresh flowers. Ivory is a great alternative for those who want to be more traditional, but a colored dress makes the details in a dress really pop.
TRISTATEBRIDE.ME
THEN
Ancient Greeks and Romans believed that demons and witches attended a wedding to curse the bride and groom. A bride then wore the veil to protect her from them. It was thought that if they could not see her, they could not harm her. The wedding day would also be the first time the bride and groom would see each other. After the father gave his daughter away to her new owner, the veil then revealed the bride’s face during the ceremony. In the 1860s, the veil represented status and wealth, so the longer and bigger it was, the better. The long veil and train was also intended to prevent the bride from running away from her new groom, which was common during this time of arranged marriages. Romantic, right?
PHOTO CREDITS: 1. “Victorian Veil” by Unidentified Photographer, Anacostia Community Museum 2. “Essense of Australia D2294” Dress is shown in Magnolia Twilight Mikado with Ivory and Almond Tulle
NOW
This traditional accessory is making a big comeback recently. The Cathedral veil is the ultimate show stopper as it adds drama as you walk down the aisle, measuring between 108 to 120 inches long. A bride does not have to be walking down an aisle of a church to pull off this look. Look at Pinterest, and you will find any setting works well with this statement piece.
3.
NOT EXACTLY WHAT I HAD IN MIND WHEN ASKED TO BE A BRIDESMAID
THEN
In Roman Times, being a bridesmaidwas a serious role. A bride would pick ten witnesses and dress them identically to her to confuse the evil spirits on her wedding day. Her lookalikes would also protect her against a rejected suitor who might try to kidnap and harm her. Yikes!
NOW
Thankfully, bridesmaids no longer have to look exactly like the bride, but they are expected to be her support system and to stand next to her during the ceremony. Today, anything goes when selecting gowns for bridesmaids. Brides are choosing tomix-and-match silhouettes, fabrications, and/or colors. Ella Park Bridal offers over 400 bridesmaid dresses in chiffon, satin, tulle, lace, and sequin fabrications and an array of colors for their bridal party.

Looking & Feeling EPIC On Your Big Day by Brooklyn Farless | Owner of Hairpocalypse
Y
ou’re getting married! (Activate squeal!) And even though it’s not the most important part of your Big Day, finding just the right hairstyle and makeup is definitely the most fun. (Another squeal! I’m already seeing sparkles!) Whether you’ve always imagined yourself a certain way or you are feeling overwhelmed by deciding, here are some of my favorite tips for making a beautiful bride.
Be yourself and dream BIG! STYLES BY BROOKLYN FARLESS
It’s one day (with a zillion pictures!). You want to look and feel completely EPIC.
If you have a theme, start there.
Does your wedding say “laid back country” or “island beach?” Then you’ll want something soft and maybe a little less formal. Half up with waves and some loose pieces around your face or even all up curly with some loose fringe around the face. Paired with some natural looking makeup and pretty pink lipstick you have a “carefree-but-puttogether” natural look. I have an inner drag queen with a love of old Hollywood glam, soooo we are talking vintage finger waves or smooth classic updos with, of course, fake eyelashes and a red lip!

If you don’t know, take this quiz: tinyurl.com/BridalStlyeQuiz Or this one: tinyurl.com/BridalHairQuiz
Pictures are a must!
Do an internet search with key words into “Pinterest” or just Google images. Be honest with yourself: will you be comfortable with your hair up if you are used to wearing it down all the time? Think key words “curly,” “messy,” “romantic,” “elegant” or has a “side bang” or “braids.” Next, and most importantly, wait for a rapid intake of breath... a soft moan or better yet an exclamation like “HOLY **** THAT’S IT!” Start a file or print out pictures for your stylist. Do the same thing for makeup. Or take another fun quiz! Here’s one: tinyurl.com/BridalMakeupQuiz
My favorite wedding look:
Flawless skin, a slight contoured cheek with pinky blush, defined eyebrows and lash line with fake lashes and a colored lip. My personal faves are any shade of red or pink - they look great in pictures.

Don’t forget embellishments:
Fake flowers, headbands, greenery, jewelry. Hell, ANYTHING SPARKLY! A pearl necklace, broche, glittery snowflakes, fake diamonds... *breathe* Ok, you get the idea.
And finally, find a stylist/makeup artist to complete the look.
This is a good time to discuss extensions if you choose (I think clip-ins are a great and less expensive way to complete a long-haired look). Make an appointment a month before your wedding to do a run-through. Make sure and take pictures of hair and makeup. Not-so-fun-fact: foundations with an SPF can have a reflective quality that makes you appear pale in pictures. That’s why taking pictures is important. And lastly, make an appointment for your big day and plan at least two hours for hair and makeup. It’s always good to be done early!

INVITATION ETIQUETTE QUESTIONS ANSWERED WHEN SHOULD WE SEND THEM OUT?
HOW TO POLITELY SAY “NO KIDS” AT THE WEDDING?
SHOULD WE GIVE EVERY GUEST A “PLUS-ONE?”
WHERE DO WE INCLUDE OUR REGISTRY INFO?
Plan to send them out six to eight weeks before the big day. this gives guests enough time to make travel plans and clear their schedules if they live out of town. If you are sending out Save-theDate cards, they should go out six to eight months in advance.
Make sure to address the invitations by guest name, and not “and guest.” If the RSVP comes back with children’s names, make sure to give them a call and explain that the wedding is for adults only and you hope that they will still be able to make it to celebrate.
No, it is perfectly acceptable to invite friends or family members solo if they are not married or in a serious relationship. Make sure the invitation only has their name on it, and they will understand that bringing a “plus-one” is not appropriate.
It is considered impolite to put where you are registered on the actual wedding inviation. It can come across as though you are asking for gifts. Most people will put this information on a wedding website or on a separate card within their invitation.

SPECIAL FEATURE
Reflections from local newlywed Jonathan Gluff
T
here’s no doubt that planning a wedding is hectic. If it wasn’t, there wouldn’t be a profession whose existence is owed to the sheer number of people who don’t want to have to pick out what fl owers match the invitations, bridesmaid dresses, napkins, etc. But marriage certainly isn’t easy, either, so perhaps it’s fi tting that planning one yourself requires hard work. From the beginning, Murphy’s Law held true: There was an issue with reserving the location for the ceremony; bands we reached out to about playing didn’t respond, were already booked that day, or were otherwise unavailable; and just a few short weeks before our big day, the events planner at our reception venue left. It began to seem that everything that could go wrong was indeed going wrong. We worked to stem the tide. I suggested we connect my tablet to the venue’s sound system for music instead of a DJ (I apologize to my DJ friends for being a cheapskate!), and my wife suggested I and a friend (who, like myself, is also a guitarist) provide live music in lieu of a band. We shared playlists back and forth via the music app we subscribe to while my friend and I worked on the setlist, making sure to include songs she requested we play.
My Wedding Planning Experience: A Guy’s Perspective
46 | TRI-STATE BRIDE 2017
TRISTATEBRIDE.ME
“All in all, our wedding day went relatively smoothly. I’ve never heard of a wedding that didn’t have at least a few things go wrong, and ours was no exception.”
While I handled setting up the music, she worked on the decorations. I’m not saying I was completely uninvolved in this part, but I’m very glad that she enjoys things like that much more than I do. I gave my opinion when it was asked, but she really led the charge on that front. But we also had help from friends and family members. My mother, her mother, and her aunt helped set up the ceremony location while my brother and father helped me set up musical equipment. A coworker’s boyfriend officiated the ceremony. Even though we decided not to have bridesmaids or groomsmen to both save
money and not make anyone feel excluded, our friends helped set up chairs and decorations at both the ceremony and reception. And I’d be remiss to not mention that both her parents and mine helped tremendously with the cost (although our bank accounts certainly took a significant hit from it as well). All in all, our wedding day went relatively smoothly. I’ve never heard of a wedding that didn’t have at least a few things go wrong, and ours was no exception. But the few things that did go wrong were incredibly minor even at that time, to say nothing of how trivial they seem now with almost a year of hindsight. But when I look at all the things that could’ve gone wrong, it’s clear our efforts paid off. I can see now how things were able to come together the way they did. We had our friends and family to help us when we needed it, but we were there for each other. Sure, we faced struggles and setbacks periodically, but we worked together by playing off of our individual strengths while still being willing to compromise when it was needed (even if I still have to defend my choice of playing Ryan Adams’ “Stars Go Blue” over her request for his cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space”). In many ways, it feels like planning our wedding was a nearly perfect metaphor for a successful marriage. - Jonathan Gluff

WEDDING ADVICE | BUDGET
BUDGETING 101
Big Day Budget No need to break the bank: You can save a lot of cash by cutting a few corners Let’s face it, weddings aren’t cheap, and not everyone is a celebrity who can afford to have 1000 guests, rent castles, and jet-set to exotic lands for their honeymoon. But you don’t have to take out a second mortgage to enjoy your big day. Keep your cool and your costs down by getting creative.
Choose your guest list wisely. Anyone who cares about you and your happiness should be on board with your decisions regarding who to include in your nuptials. Is it really necessary to invite your third cousin twice removed? Maybe consider opting for the bare minimum: your partner, a witness, an officiant, and then a hell of a reception. There’s no law that says you must go big on your big day. But if you do, save money by printing invitations at home using quality paper, with the most important being hand-delivered. And ask guests to RSVP by phone or email to cut down on postage costs.
There are plenty of ways to save on the dress. Try local consignment shops like Evansville’s AnnaLe’s Twice Chosen or Great ComeBacks in Owensboro. Also, research local buy/sell/ trade groups on Facebook or Craig’s List. Better yet, how about something borrowed? Your mom, your aunt, your grandma - all would probably be thrilled to see their dress make another trip down the aisle. And it may come as a surprise, but stores such as JC Penney and Forever 21 (online) have gorgeous, affordable dresses, and David’s Bridal often has a large selection of gowns under $200. Online shopping is an option as well - sites like inweddingdress.com have great choices. Just remember to check each site
for shipping times/ return policies and order well in advance in case of a return or need for alterations. Lastly, there’s no rule that says one has to don a beaded, silk, ruffled head-to-toe getup. With the right shoes, veil, and other accessories, you can turn any dress into a “wedding dress.”
Have your ceremony and reception in the same location. City parks and gardens are reasonable, and it’s amazing how a community center can be shined up with ambient lighting, pressed tablecloths, DIY centerpieces, and pieces borrowed from your favorite local artists. Also consider that a friend or family member with a good space for a ceremony would likely be happy to gift the glowing couple with a location for their big day as well. Again, something borrowed!
Friends take pretty good photos too, you know.
How do you know what your budget for your big day is? Use these tips to set your budget and stick to it! 1. DECIDE ON THE MAX AMOUNT YOU CAN SPEND Figure out who is all helping to pay for the wedding and how much they are giving you. Then decide how much you are willing to spend of your own money. 2. CATEGORIZE Make a list of every little thing that you will need to spend money on. Don’t leave anything out. Excel is great for keeping everything organized. 3. ESTIMATE Go through each category and estimate how much you are willing to spend on that specific part of the wedding. This helps prioritize what is most important to you. 4. BOOK VENDORS As you book your vendors write in the total amount that you acutally spend. Adjust the other columns accordingly. 5. KEEP A PAPER TRAIL Keep receipts for everything together. Also keep copies of all your vendor contracts. deposits, etc. Organization is key. 5. WILL POWER! Whatever you do, don’t go over budget. It can be tempting to splurge, but when the big day is over and you look back, you will be glad you stuck to it.
Let them know how much you appreciate all those pics they snapped during the ceremony, and ask if they’d mind saving them on a drive or SD card. Take the pics to a shop later if you can’t afford it just yet at least you’ll have digital memories for the time being. Professional shots are ideal, of course, so consider enlisting a later-year photography student who is trying to build their portfolio - it’s cheaper than freelance or a studio. - Whitney Patterson

CONSIDER THE SEASON Depending on your location, consider hiring a food truck for a fall or spring wedding when the weather’s milder. 2. DO THE MATH Plan on at least one food truck for every 75 guests. This keeps lines down and hungry loved ones fed and happy. 3. FIGURE OUT SEATING You can set up formal tables so guests can grab their food and have a sit-down meal, or put utensils and napkins in a central location to encourage guests to stand and mingle.
Wedding Food for Thought
4. MAKE IT LATE-NIGHT Want to offer a midnight snack to satisfy your guests’ late-night munchies? A food truck could be just the thing. After all that dancing and drinking, guests will happily devour food truck bites. CHECK OUT LOCAL OPTIONS
Keep the party going by keeping your options open and not stressing over the menu
O
ne of the last things a bride or groom wants to be concerned about on their special day is the reception. The most stressful parts of the ceremony, such as photos and the act of saying “I do” are already over the reception is supposed to be the party. While there’s not just one aspect of the post-nuptial shenanigans that outweighs the others - the key is to relax and have fun - something guests always remember is the grub. Yes, the cake-smashing is adorable and timeless, but Great Aunt Fanny will remind you about those dried-up pork chops until the day she dies. Regardless, the main thing to keep in mind is that whether you have 10 guests or 300, it’s ultimately your day and your decision. Stay within your budget - there’s no requirement of steak and lobster, or even your German mother’s incessant fixation on fried chicken and mashed potatoes, although all of those things are delicious. Even the traditional cake isn’t that big of a deal - not everyone likes cake. Consider a multi-option dessert spread with fondue fountains and fruit, cupcakes, pies, candy, etc.

You know what everyone does like? At least, I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t. Tacos. Pizza. Baked potatoes. Appetizers. Breakfast. Options. OPTIONS. And of course, there will always be those few guests with certain dietary needs, so having a buffet/ bar style dinner rather than a regimented plate menu offers more opportunities to include everyone. With a little help from friends and family (i.e., a pre-wedding
“The main thing to keep in mind is that whether you have 10 guests or 200, it’s ultimately your day and your decision.” cooking party), these are fun alternatives that don’t even require a caterer; therefore, more money for the honeymoon. For spring, summer, and fall weddings, food trucks are an option, and in the winter, huge Crock-pots of soup and a salad bar could easily do the trick.
As far as the amount of food goes, it’s always good to shoot for the top rather than low-ball, because no matter how creative or grand your menu is, it would be horrifying to run out. That being said, I’ve never been to a wedding reception (and I am a bit of a wedding crasher, often the plus-one) where this has happened. In fact, they usually have leftovers. If you choose to use a reputable caterer, as long as they have a relatively accurate headcount, they’ll accommodate you. Should you choose to plan, purchase, and cook the menu yourself, there is an abundance of online resources to help you plan portions so you’re not stuck with too much or too little, typically by weight or piece per person. Again, this is primarily about you, so whatever you choose to do will be fine, but if you have any regrets, the least of it should be food. Your guests will be happy enough that you shared the day with them, and if Great Aunt Fanny starts complaining about the pork chops, pour her a large glass of wine and find her a cute dancing partner. Bon appetit! - Whitney Patterson

SPECIAL FEATURE
Wedding Regrets Hindsight is 20/20: Coming to terms with all the things that could have gone better on your Big Day
Ah, regrets. Life is full of them. No matter how we try to plan, to prepare for our most important moments, it’s inevitable that, upon reflection, there will be poor decisions to sit and pointlessly ponder. This is no more true than when a bride looks back on her wedding day, because only perfection will do when it comes to such a sacred union. Consequently, it’s a day that’s often rife with regret - and therefore, something about which most every bride has an opinion. We asked around and compiled a list of the top wedding regrets for area brides. Some are fairly obvious while others may surprise you.
NOT DRINKING ENOUGH
GETTING TOO STRESSED OUT
This amusing regret popped up time and time again. Considering how pressure-packed a wedding day can be, it’s not exactly shocking that a bride might want to knock back a few throughout the day. By all accounts, facing the Big Day stone cold sober is not necessarily the best option. Sure, you might remember everything a bit more clearly, but that’s not always a good thing, is it?
Closely tied to the previous regret... nothing can ruin a wedding day faster than letting nerves and the pressure of the moment get the better of you. Hence, why brides often feel compelled to drink. Can you blame them? Seriously, feeling comfortable and relaxed is the key - no one wants to spend their Big Day with their insides tied up in a knot.
HIRING A LESS THAN SPECTACULAR PHOTOGRAPHER
NOT BANNING CELLPHONES
This is the classic ‘you get what you pay for’ scenario. Of course, not everyone can afford a world-class photographer; however, many a bride has lived to regret skimping on pics. There’s no replaying the ceremony, obviously, so if high quality photos are a priority, you might want to adjust your budget.
ALLOWING CHILDREN TO ATTEND Here’s a regret that most brides are ashamed to admit. And it’s easy to see why. No one wants to be labeled ‘anti-kid’ but let’s be honest, a group of amped-up little ones can derail a ceremony in record time. The takeaway here is that while children are indeed our future, they don’t necessarily need to be invited to your wedding. There will be plenty of time to spend with them in the aforementioned future.

Yes, cellphones are a HUGE part of everyday life but man, they can really interfere with basic human interaction. Especially on such a momentous occasion when all eyes should be focused on the glowing bride rather than staring down at a tiny glowing screen. Here’s a friendly piece of advice: stay on the bride’s good side by leaving your phone in the car. Granted, you’ll probably feel like you’ve severed a limb, but life will carry on, regardless.
FORGETTING TO TAKE “THE MACARENA” OFF THE DJ’S PLAYLIST Despite what you may think, this is not a joke. It’s funny, yes, but it’s all too real. Everyone has that certain song that just makes their skin crawl, and “The Macarena” is right up there at the top of the list. One spin of this over-played 90’s mega-hit can send guests fleeing from the dance floor. Not always, though. For instance, if enough alcohol has been consumed (bringing things full circle).
