The Second Time Around By Lauren VanCleve
The decision to be married a second time can be a daunting one. What will your family and friends think about you getting married again? The nerves can be overwhelming, but there is good news: you’re not alone. 40% of marriages are those of people who are getting married again.
G
etting married the second time around brings about new challenges that your first marriage may not have. If you and/or your potential spouse have children, you’ll be marrying together two families. You’ll be dealing with ex-spouses and perhaps child support and custody issues. The good news is that you have the experience from your first marriage and wisdom to carry to your next. You know what worked and what didn’t. Whether your first marriage ended as the result of a nasty divorce or you were widowed, you are wiser as a result of the first marriage. The most important thing to remember is that this is a new marriage. Don’t bring the drama and worries from your old marriage into the new one. You’re starting fresh for a reason. There is no need to open up old wounds. Take those mistakes from your first marriage and use them as learning experiences.
So what about the wedding?
Do you go all out, have a small wedding or just go to the courthouse? Another great thing about getting married a second time is that the wedding is really all about you. You’re a little older and Tri-State Bride 2014
a little wiser. You aren’t looking to impress your friends and family by catering to what they think your wedding should be. Make this occasion all about you. If you want a big to-do, have a huge party! If you want a smaller, family-centered event, do it! Maria Brothers had children when she was married the second time around. This caused her wedding to be more budget savvy. “My second wedding was very simple, very cost effective,” said Brothers, who has been married to her second husband for five years, “We did a lot of things ourselves.” The new trend in weddings happens to be do-it-yourself décor, so it is easy to find tutorials and ideas online for your wedding. Websites like Pinterest have created a huge movement towards cost-effective, do-it-yourself weddings and are the perfect place to find ideas for your own wedding. Many people are in the same position as Brothers, with children from a first marriage, who they want to not only include in the wedding, but have to consider budget-wise. “My first wedding, I didn’t have kids. I spent $1,200 on my
dress. I spent $300 on my dress for my second wedding,” said Brothers. Her husband had never been married, so it was important for them to still have a big wedding. It’s important to consider whether or not this is your soonto-be spouse’s first wedding. It may or may not be a huge deal to you since you’ve been through it, but if they haven’t, it will be a big deal to them. Ultimately, the wedding is all about you two, so do what you feel you want and what you feel is right. This may or may not go without saying, but if you are divorced, it’s probably not a good idea to invite your ex to your wedding. Not only do you not want to bring up old drama or feelings with them, you would make your new spouse extremely uncomfortable. Good for you for getting along with your ex, but please don’t invite them to your wedding. Unless, of course, you’re remarrying your ex, in which case, good for you two for making it work!

Wedding Vows
Local Grooms at a Loss for Words By Thomas Ellis
In the previous issue of Tri-State Bride, I took a hard-hitting, unflinching look at several local 40-something grooms and their pathetic lack of involvement in the wedding planning process. A year later, I am still haunted by the complete lack of motivation on the part of the grooms - all of whom are somehow still married, miraculously so. In part two of my investigative report, I check back in with two of those sorry grooms who, predictably, not only failed magnificently in the wedding preparation phase, but also bumbled and stumbled their way through the most sacred part of the ceremony: the exchanging of vows.
Groom 1, Anthony Bacon: “I was all set to deliver vows from heaven to the angel I was about to wed. My words looked so good on paper, so rhythmic and flowing. Seriously, it was like poetry from the gods or something. Looking back, I really wish people could have read the emotionally-charged words I had written - before I decided to rap them. It turns out that ‘hip-hop vows’ are not welcome at a traditional wedding. As I was being escorted from the premises, I continued to beatbox in protest, and I’m pretty sure I saw my nine-year-old nephew popping – not locking, though, just popping. It’s burned in my brain.”
Groom 2, Jim Stowe: “Man, I was nervous. Everyone was staring at me, just waiting for me to speak. I looked at my wife, and she had
such a loving expression on her face, so full of expectation. With sweat cascading down my back and my heart-rate in overdrive, I simply lost focus. I hadn’t intended to tweet my vows, but my near-paralysis left me with few options – I knew I wouldn’t be able to communicate any other way. Sadly, the 140 character limit meant that I had to break up my thoughts and feelings into 11 separate messages. My wife and I slept in two separate rooms that night.”
The above accounts may once again have been exaggerated.

Traditional vs.
Non - Traditional W h i c h B r i d e A r e Yo u ? by Nikki Davis photos by Daniel Knight, Studio B
l Aside from marrying the person that you love, one of the best parts about getting hitched is the endless possibilities of what you can do to make your big day special. Any bride can tell you that it is those little details that can turn your big day from ordinary to extraordinary; but what they might not tell you is that everyone has their own personal preference, and what one bride may love, another may dislike completely. So, where to do you begin?
O
l
ne place to start is to decide if you lean more towards a traditional bride or determine if you fall in a more offbeat category. A traditional bride follows set societal standards and has more of a cookie-cutter style wedding. Whereas an offbeat bride bucks trends, does not follow the norm, and may go so far is to set an on over-the-top theme for her big day. So, what difference does that make?
• 8 • www.TriStateBride.com
There can be some huge differences depending on which path you take. The first is availability of wedding items. For a traditional wedding, a church or other standard ceremony site is a must, and items from dresses to flowers can generally be purchased from your run of the mill vendor. Alternately, an offbeat bride may have to do some major searching to find what she is looking for. This time consumption should be taken into consideration when conceptualizing your big day. Long drawn-out searches for items can also start to add up monetarily as gas is used to drive all over town looking for necessary parts to the overall puzzle. The solution? Phone ahead to retailers before making a drive out to shops, or make your purchases online. A lot of times, what you save on gas by price comparison shopping online can more than make up for what you have to spend on the cost of shipping.
The next consideration is your guests. Most people who attend a traditional wedding know the general format of the event and know what to expect. So, societal norms make it easy for a bride to assume that most guests will have a clue what is going on around them. For those planning an offbeat wedding though, there may be elements of the event that take people off guard (in a good or a bad way). So, if your bridal party is going to break into a dance as part of the processional, or a groomsman is going to act out a sword fight at the alter with the groom, give some of your more sensitive guests (or parents to small little ones) a heads up of what to expect or at least that there is surprise in store. No one wants a child crying because he or she is scared or wants Grandma to pass out at the sight of the commotion. So, a little heads up is good lookin’ out!
Tri-State Bride 2014
What factors come into play with the different types of weddings? A traditional bride may consider things like color scheme, flower types, china patterns and fabric selections as she plans her big day. Does the dress style flatter her bridesmaids? Do the napkins match the flowers? Does she have her something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue? She may also take into consideration family traditions in the planning of the event. The couple may get married at the same church her parents did. She may look to incorporate her mother’s dress into her dress or in her veil. The time of year desired by the couple may also play a part in the overall planning of the event. On the other hand, offbeat brides go for a more theme-driven approach. Some examples? A DIY wedding might consist of as many elements as possible being handmade. An up-cycled wedding may look to incorporate the recycling of everyday objects to be used for the event. A literary themed wedding may have a bride using book pages to hand-craft her flowers. A steam-punk themed wedding might entail a plethora of gadgets, gizmos, boots, corsets and suspenders from the Victorian era to embellish the event start to finish. Concept is key for this type of wedding, and seeing the details through from save-thedates or invitations to the final reception send-off are vital for making your wedding memorable for you and your guests. So, where do you find resources to plan your big day? Traditional wedding ideas as well as creative, off-the wall inspiration can be found on the Martha Stewart Wedding website and in the Martha Stewart Wedding print magazines. The goddess of DIY has a bevy of ideas to spice up your big day even if you choose to stick with the norm. From simple to elegant, bold to standard, she offers ideas on everything from cakes to invitations to favors. On the flip side, the website Offbeat Bride offers you “wedding porn,” a blog style run-down of all the splendor of offbeat ideas. With a huge dose of reallife weddings, the site covers everything from hair ideas for brides with mohawks to rainbow, fairytale-style dresses. Once you decide your path, timing is critical, so plan accordingly to make your purchases or handcraft your details. Whether you plan your wedding in one year or one week, making sure to not run out of time will help Bride you keep Tri-State 2014your expenditures lower
than if you make last minute purchases. This is also falls in line with watching how much money goes into the event planning. Keeping your budget in mind is crucial to making sure that you don’t overspend. The web offers a wide variety of resources to make your purchases from (from typical retailers to sites like Etsy that allow you to purchase handmade without investing your own time into the item creation). You might also consider buying local to keep your money in the area economy. The other alternative is reusing, upcycling or creating your own wedding day items. Whichever path you go though, make sure to enjoy your wedding and make it your own. So, whether you decide on a traditional or offbeat direction for your big day, make sure that the bar that you set for yourself is one that will make both you and your spouse happy and worthwhile.

Fellas, let’s face it… Somewhere between “Will you marry me?” and “I do.” we get lost in the hustle, bustle and chaos of planning what is better known as ‘The Wedding Day.’ Most of us think everything about the day is up to her and all we want to do is have a bachelor party, show up at the church, say I do and then party the night away. But there’s more to it than that future husbands to be! Here are a few wedding day survival tips that will help any man make it through their wedding day.

Remember, you’ve been thinking about your wedding day for only the last 48 hours. Your wife to be has been thinking about it her whole life.

Leslie DeAngelo of TLC’s I Found the Gown & Co-Owner of Vows Bridal Outlet By Kana L. Brown
Tri-State Bride (TSB): How do you like being on reality TV and is it weird having fans now? Leslie DeAngelo (LD): (Laughs) It’s very different. It is kind of like having two jobs because I’m running the store and I’m making the TV show. It’s a juggling act even though they are in the store with our brides - it’s a whole other thing going on. It’s exciting and it’s been great for business. Now, people travel from all over the world to our store. It’s even airing now internationally. We get posts saying ‘watching you from Spain’ or ‘Hello’ from Australia. It is very cool to be connected to so many people. The staff at the store and I are constantly keeping up with our social media to answer questions and stay connected.
• 16 • www.TriStateBride.com
TSB: How did you get started in the bridal business? LD: My husband and I started the business out of seeing a need of
wanting a designer dress on a not-so-designer budget. Also, with our Liv Harris line, curvier brides couldn’t go into a store to try on a dress eight to 10 years ago because no bridal stores kept past a size 10. So, basically seeing a need and not wanting to turn brides away. I actually have a degree in Elementary Education, but I love working with people. That came naturally. In a way, it was among the same skill set. I teach people and educate them on finding what works for them. Over time, our business grew organically. It has went from 500 sq. ft. with 600 wedding dresses on a second floor space, to a first floor retail space about 6 months after that. Four years later, we are now moved into a 5,000 sq. ft. building and now busting through a wall to double that. It’s really just blown up. Tri-State Bride 2014
TSB: How can a bride negotiate price when she falls in love with a dress that’s out of her budget?
LD: The best thing to do is start going to trunk shows. The designers
offer gowns at about 10-15% off. Also, ask the store if they will sell you the sample and it can be made to fit you. Just ask. It never hurts to ask.
TSB: Who is your favorite designer? LD: Vera Wang changes year-to-year. She is so talented and interesting.
All blush line, black and mocha line… She just takes chances and I love that. I also like a somewhat new line, Allure. Moderate price line and a lot of value. I can’t keep them on the racks. They fly off because of the price and their fits are so on point.
TSB: Traditional or glam? LD: Five years ago, I would have said classic, clean lines and ruched
woman don’t be apologetic for asking for something that you want. When things need to get done, don’t be shy about asking where it is and why it isn’t done.
TSB: What is good advice for those brides who have family that are
paying for the wedding but they don’t see eye to eye? LD: It is a fine line to walk. You hope the person doesn’t hold that for ransom, like ‘I’m paying, so you have to do what I say.’ In our case, we try to side with the bride as much as we can. She is our client. If she’s not happy with the choice, then she is not going to be happy on her wedding day. I would hope they would want the bride to feel beautiful, feel special and have a wonderful wedding day.
TSB: Color? LD: I love color. Angel Sanchez did a bridal line of mint green wedding
dresses that I loved.
TSB: Any advice for a new couple? LD: Be happy, enjoy the day and enjoy each other. Laugh a lot. PHOTO CREDIT RACHAEL LYNSEY RUBIN
TSB: Being a woman in business, what are some “do’s and don’ts?” LD: It is important to do what you think is right, just because you are
bodices but now, some of the designers like Jenny Packham have these crazy beaded dresses that are so amazing they are like beaded art. Very 20’s and 30’s era glam.
TSB: Have you had to deal with any bridezillas? LD: I could drum up some story, but for the most part I think because
of how we run our business, that it’s an outlet that has amazing deals, people are happy to be there. We don’t get the stuffy, crazy brides. They are very practical and very educated in the industry. They know they want something really nice and they don’t have to pay full retail for it, nor do they want to. So, mostly people are really happy in our stores.
For more information on Leslie and her husband Rick’s business, check out Vows Bridal Outlet online at www.bridepower.com or for the latest on I Found the Gown visit www.tlc.com.
TSB: How big should the entourage be? LD: Not too big in my opinion. I think it gets way too difficult with too
many people, kind of like too many chefs in the kitchen… When those opinions don’t match up, it’s generally a recipe for disaster. Three max. Ideally, I like two. When they bring more, we just make it work.
TSB: Since you go pick out the dresses ahead of time, what trends do you see for 2014?
LD: Backs, beaded backs, highly-decorative backs and sleeves and
necklines are coming up. Although they say strapless will never go out of style. There are just so many options.
TSB: What looks good on every body shape? LD: Years ago, curvy brides were very limited. A lot of curvy women
want to showcase those curves, not hide them under a ball gown. Mermaid can be too dramatic. Trumpet - which is more modified and more forgiving - looks gorgeous on anyone with a ruched bodice. And the structure holds everything in place. Tri-State Bride 2014

Victory Theatre:
The Day You’ve Always Dreamed Of There is nothing more exciting than planning for your Big Day. For most couples, the wedding reception is equally as important as the wedding itself! Hours are spent gathering ideas from television shows, Pinterest boards, websites and blogs to help put together the perfect atmosphere to celebrate the day you’ve always dreamed of. With all of the components of your wedding reception to consider, there is nothing more important than the location and the food. With all the possibilities available, where do you start looking?
W
Once you have settled on your reception site, you will want to meet with the facility and caterer to lay out your reception from start to finish. This is the time to ask questions, brainstorm, and plan for the day. Your caterer will take into consideration is the size of your guest list, the time of day the reception will be held, age range of the guests, any diet restrictions, whether alcohol will be served and budget guidelines. According to Shannabeth Stein, Catering Manager for Victory Theatre, “The most important thing is communication. We want to be sure we cater to your wedding day perfectly. With the couple we are able to discuss budgets, preferences, time of service and additional needs to create the perfect reception envisioned by the client.” Both Bolander and Stein work closely with Victory Theatre clients throughout the planning process and will provide them with a clear contract that lists service details and payment terms. The client should expect exceptional and personalized service to assist all their wedding day needs. Now comes the fun part – the food! When choosing the menu for your reception there are a few guidelines to keep in mind. How formal or informal is your reception? In which season are you getting married? What are the venue’s capabilities?

hen searching for a reception site, look beyond decorating possibilities and whether there is space for a dance floor. Does the venue come with exceptional in house catering and personalized service? Many local facilities, like Evansville’s historic Victory Theatre which offers a beautiful setting overlooking Evansville’s historic Main Street, have an executive chef or in-house caterer you will work with when planning your menu. At Victory Theatre, Executive Chef Ismael Aguilar offers an extensive menu with both fine dining and casual buffet options. He can also accommodate personal requests. Is the site equipped for your needs? All event rooms can accommodate up to 250 guests. “Victory Theatre’s banquet hall has a remarkable view of the downtown area. It’s truly a unique setting,” explains Ben Bolander, General Manager of Victory Theatre.
Traditionally, wedding receptions have featured multi-course, sit-down dinners or simpler self-serve buffets, but there are plenty of other options. Stein has seen a trend locally toward cocktail party receptions that serve a variety of substantial hors d’oeuvres. “Finger foods encourage guests to mix and mingle, and they tend to be easier on your budget,” she says. Sampling stations, family-style dinners or even barbecues are other possibilities. Keep in mind your own personal preferences, as well. Was your first date at a Mexican restaurant? Chef Aguilar suggests serving mini tacos as an appetizer, or offer a fajitas station. Did your fiancé propose while you were on vacation in Hawaii? Coconut shrimp with mango dipping sauce or fresh tropical fruit would fit the theme perfectly. Regardless of what you choose, Victory Theatre’s in-house catering service offers a wide variety of fine dining and casual menu options for every budget.
No matter what type of reception you decide to hold, your ultimate goal should be to make your guests feel welcome while expressing who you are as a couple. The right setting and in house caterer will help you to do all that and more! Call (812) 436-7050 for more information about booking your event at Victory Theatre. • 30 • www.TriStateBride.com

Common Health Questions & Answers for Women From the Doctors of Women’s Health Care, P.C .
Q A
Q A
What do I do if I miss a birth control pill? Take the missed pill the next day or as soon as possible. Later that day take your regularly scheduled pill. If you miss two pills, take those pills on the first day you realize this, then two pills the next day. If you miss three or more pills, you must wait for the next cycle and restart a new pack. It is imperative to use a backup method of contraception when you have missed pills, or during the month that you restarted your cycle on a new pack of pills. Break-through bleeding is common any time you have missed a pill. If this occurs, keep taking your pills as usual. Your cycle should regulate again over the next month.
What are the symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI)? Symptoms of UTI or bladder infection include a strong urge to urinate that cannot be delayed, followed by a sharp pain or burning when urine is released. Most often very little urine is released and it may be tinged with blood. The urge recurs quickly and soreness may occur in the lower abdomen, back or sides. If bacteria has entered the ureters and spread to the kidneys, symptoms such as back pain, chills, fever, nausea and vomiting may also occur. If this occurs, contact your doctor immediately. Proper diagnosis is vital since these symptoms can also be caused by infection of the vagina or vulva. Only a doctor can make the correct diagnosis, so see your physician as soon as possible.
Q A
What causes vaginal itching? Some common causes are chemicals in laundry detergent, bath soaps, deodorants, ointments and foams or jellies used during intercourse. Vaginal infections - particularly yeast infections - can cause intense symptoms including itching. Other infections and sexually transmitted diseases that can cause itching include bacterial vaginosis (BV), genital herpes, trichomoniasis and pubic lice.
If you have vaginal itching that isn’t clearing up, see your doctor. If you experience vaginal itching accompanied by severe pelvic or lower abdominal pain and / or a fever, notify your doctor immediately.

An Intimate Dining Experience PHOTO CREDIT DANIEL KNIGHT STUDIO B
Smitty’s Italian Steakhouse
Smitty’s is the newest west side eatery brought to you by the same brothers who brought you Sportsman’s Grille and Gerst Haus all within a stone’s throw of each other on Franklin Street.
T
he wooden floors, unique back bar, quaint booths and tables bring a warm, cozy feel to any dining occasion. Smitty’s is known for its decadent pastas and tender, juicy steaks. The spacious patio area boasts plenty of tables, shade trees and a fountain giving it an old-world vibe and making it the ideal place for a quiet lunch or dinner. You can top off this special experience by enjoying a glass of wine from Smitty’s irresistible wine list. With the success of the restaurant, Smitty’s has expanded into another room on the east side of the original structure of the restaurant. This room is available for meetings, showers, rehearsal dinners, retirement and birthday parties and provides a memorable environment for all of the above. This new addition has the capacity to host 75 guests and boasts a variety of tables that can be situated to fit your needs. Their chef will assist you in selecting items from the Smitty’s or Gerst Haus menu. He can also customize a menu specifically for you catering to most budgets and dietary requirements. Some items include: Salads, steaks, pasta and pizza in addition to meat, vegetable or cheese trays and so much more! Smitty’s also offers you the option of sit-down dining or buffet-style.
For your party, Smitty’s has all your bases covered. The party room includes a full bar, bartender and server, if needed, at no extra cost to you. They can provide bottles of wine straight from their dynamic wine list or special order any number of wines or champagnes to satisfy the tastes of you and your guests. Smitty’s can also provide white linen tablecloths, candles and all tableware if needed. In a decorative sense, Smitty’s gives you the option to use their party room as your canvas. Decorate the space for your special event as elaborately or as simply as you wish! A non-refundable down payment of $100 is all that is required to reserve the room for your event. $50 of that initial fee is returned on the day of the event in the form of a food credit. —Cindy Reitz

Community Marriage
Builders In 1998, a United Way Needs Assessment pinpointed the biggest threat to our community: the breakdown of the family.
T
he eye-opening assessment led to the formation of Community Marriage Builders (CMB), a non-profit organization on a mission to turn the tide. “There’s a lack of positive examples out there, a lack of understanding as to what commitment means,” explains CMB Marketing/Web Administrator, Andrew Gries. “It’s all about education.” For the last 15 years, the organization has worked to enlighten couples in the community through a series of programs and workshops focused on strengthening relationships and ultimately, rebuilding the family. Gries joined the team seven years ago when CMB received a federal grant to expand services. He has dramatically raised the organization’s profile through social media, including weekly marriage tips on facebook and twitter and monthly messages using e-blast. Admirably, the objective of these communications is not to promote CMB but rather to add value to relationships. “My philosophy with social media is to encourage and inspire couples,” says Gries. “Our mission is to educate and equip the community for lifetime marriage.” Since CMB’s formation, the tristate has seen an increase in marriage applications and a dip in divorce filings (in Vanderburgh County, the divorce
filing rate has decreased by 24%). While it’s impossible to definitively tie CMB to these positive trends, there’s no doubt that the organization is making a major impact. Gries points to the following popular programs and workshops as being particularly effective:
How to Avoid Falling for a Jerk or Jerkette: A workshop for singles and dating couples that gives a practical guide to help avoid the jerks and find “the one” who’s right for you. Designed by Dr. John Van Epp, it’s a foolproof way to follow your heart without losing your mind.
Focus: A personal inventory for premarriage couples that includes 100 questions covering everything from inlaws to technology. The test scores open the lines of communication and help couples decide whether or not to proceed with the relationship.
Marriage Insurance (Make It Last): A workshop designed to give couples the skills needed to make their marriage last, because happily ever after doesn’t just happen. When the honeymoon is over, this workshop helps prepare couples for their journey through life together.
Dating My Spouse: A program focused on getting married couples to set regular “date nights” and keep the fun in their relationship. It works as a fundraiser for CMB through the sales of Dating My Spouse buttons. During the second full week of each month, couples can take the button to participating restaurants and receive buy-one-get-one-free discounts.
According to Gries, the workshop weekends are primarily held in French Lick, New Harmony and at Lake Barkley. They are offered at no cost and fill up fast, so don’t wait to register.
Revive: A workshop designed for couples that are highly distressed or may be considering divorce. Couples are given specific tools for conflict resolution and improved communication and also learn how to love each other in the most effective ways.
To find out more about CMB and read testimonials from past workshop participants, visit communitymarriage builders.com. CMB is located at 1229 Bellemeade Ave. in Evansville. Questions: call 812-477-2260 or email office@makeitlast.org. Tri-State Bride 2014

Ambassador Travel Your Honeymoon Experts
You ’ve zjust spent months planning and pulling off a marriage proposal to end all marriage proposals. And while the 300 person strong-break dancing-flash mob and skydiving, gospel choir may have been a bit over the top, the operation was a rousing success. Of course, there is still a honeymoon to plan. Thankfully, you have just enough strength left to call Ambassador Travel. They ’ v e got your back. PHOTO CREDIT AMBASSADOR TRAVEL
W
ith over 250 years of combined experience and 150 countries visited, the staff at Ambassador Travel specializes in planning the perfect honeymoon getaway for any couple on any budget. Their knowledge of world-wide destinations is unparalleled. So is their dedication to saving you time and money by securing the very best vacation deal through longstanding relationships with preferred suppliers. Best of all, Ambassador Travel is a safe and secure business. Customer satisfaction is paramount. For many couples, the cost of the honeymoon determines – and limits - the destination possibilities. Ambassador Travel offers a wide range of vacation packages – from hotspots like Hawaii and Jamaica to romantic European getaways and everywhere in between. Whether you have your mind set on relaxing by the ocean or hiking up a mountain, the dream can become reality. Ambassador’s staff is more than qualified to make it happen. Now that the pressure is off and you know that you are in good hands, Ambassador has some tips for couples to ensure a smooth honeymoon experience:
1.
1) Be sure to communicate about your dream destination and compromise when necessary. This should be the most exciting time of your life and a reward for all of the hard work that went into building a solid relationship. 2) Plan ahead and budget. Decide what you will splurge on and where you will save. The best option is to purchase an all-inclusive honeymoon package in advance, including the flight, hotel and activities. Always pamper yourself when possible.
2.
3.3)
Finalize and book the honeymoon approximately four to six months ahead of time. Shop and pack at least one to two weeks before the trip. Schedule at least one day off between the wedding and the honeymoon.
4) Brides should verify that the name used on all travel documents is the same, and couples need to carry a copy of the marriage certificate.
4.
5) Register your honeymoon with Ambassador, so family and friends can shop for gifts conveniently from home, 24/7. Encourage everyone to purchase unique gifts like dinner on the beach or a couple’s massage.
5.
Ambassador’s dedication to your full satisfaction doesn’t end once the plans are in place. The staff will continue to monitor your trip even after it is booked. Do you want to change resorts or fly to another island? Last minute changes don’t faze them. Even after you’ve reached your destination, Ambassador is at your service – even on Saturdays. Also, keep them in mind for vacations and unique wedding locations. — Thomas Ellis

Beyond the Greens Cambridge Golf Course Banquet Hall
Since opening in 2000, Cambridge Golf Course has been a tri-state favorite for links lovers. The tough-but-fair design by renowned course architect Tim Liddy, coupled with the beautiful, well-kept grounds, make it ideal for both amateur and professional players.
Y
ou’ll be hard-pressed to find another public course in the area as challenging or simply as enjoyable as Cambridge, not to mention affordable; it plays like a country club course but without the country club price. As the popularity of Cambridge Golf Course has grown over the years, so too has the facility. The addition of a stunning clubhouse and banquet hall in 2007 along with an outdoor fountain area greatly enhanced the look and feel of Cambridge and led to an expansion of services, including a successful restaurant business (open everyday). Most significantly, the newly-renovated banquet hall is now a prime location for weddings, wedding receptions, meetings, rehearsal dinners, class reunions, parties and many other events. And of course, the scenic fountain area is perfect for an outdoor wedding. Couples from all over the tri-state have tied the knot on the grounds of Cambridge, surrounded by the breathtaking landscape. But no matter the event, the good folks at Cambridge know how to take care of you.

It goes without saying that food is a top priority for most any event. The banquet menu is a buffet-style that includes your choice of two salads, starches, vegetables and meats. Each menu includes fresh baked bread, iced tea, lemonade, water and coffee. Just some of the savory entrees on the menu include Roast Round Beef in Au Ju Gravy, Peppered Pork Loin with Grilled Pineapple, Carved Prime Rib with Au Ju Gravy and Smoked Pork Chops in Cinnamon Apples. In keeping with the affordability of the golf course, the banquet hall prices for food and general services are highly competitive. Good word of mouth is imperative to the success of any business, and Cambridge Golf Course Banquet Hall has received the highest of marks from the community for the efficiency of its operation and the friendliness and experience of the staff. From the beauty of the facility to the first rate services, there’s no better place to stage an important event, corporate or private, big or small. —Thomas Ellis

Daniel Knight Studio B Photography
O
Not many local businesses can lay claim to winning an Evansville Courier & Press Reader’s Choice Award – to being the best of the best. Yet, Studio B Photography has won three of them over the last four years. From commercial work to weddings and everything in between, it’s the community’s clear-cut favorite.
wned and operated by camera wizard Daniel Knight, Studio B grew out of his life-long passion for photography that first caught fire back in high school. “I spent pretty much all of sophomore year through senior year taking pictures or working in the darkroom,” he says. “I was rarely seen without my camera.” As graduation loomed, Knight felt increasingly uncertain about his future. But he had no reservations about photography and with a little networking, landed a sales position at the original Schmitt Photo. Both the president and vice-president were duly impressed with the young Knight’s talent. “Once they figured out that I knew a lot about photography and was quick to learn, they let me work on my own,” he says. Over the next two decades, Knight continued to expand his technical knowledge of photography and flourish in hardware sales. His expertise did not go unnoticed. The owners of the new east-side Schmitt Photo offered him a management position – which then led to a coveted professional sales position. Often working on the road, Knight forged invaluable connections with some of the area’s future photography icons including Bob Straub and Don Hardesty. But little did he realize that he was preparing for something much bigger. After being reprimanded by his boss for doing some professional photography on the side, Knight made a life-altering decision. “I went home that night and told my wife that I was quitting my job. It was so evident that I wanted to be a professional photographer,” he explains. Knight opened Studio B Photography in 1995, running the business out of his Posey County home for the first seven
years. The novelty of the situation wore off almost as quickly as his clientele grew. “It was insane. We had virtually no place left to live. Every space in our home was being used for photo shoots,” Knight says, still cringing at the thought. So, in 2002, Knight built the studio of his dreams on the same property – a beautiful, highly-functional building that makes quite an impact. In fact, most every client that experiences Studio B sends a new customer Knight’s way. The pictures, as they say, are worth a thousand words. “We’re not the cheapest, but we’re one of the most consistently professional in quality – the product we put out is phenomenal,” he says. “We shoot an enormous amount of frames, do a serious amount of editing and make everything look great.” Studio B has adapted well to the changing marketplace in recent years. While many professional photographers took the digital plunge too soon without first mastering the format, Knight took his time, never sacrificing quality. The technology may have changed, but the challenge is still the same. “There’s an evolution of a photographer,” Knight explains. “Once you’ve mastered the craft, things like lighting, exposure, lenses, etc., the hardest part is yet to come - learning to work with people. Posing your subjects and knowing how to get them to relax takes experience. But I really love what I do. I consider myself a ‘people photographer.’” —Thomas Ellis
