Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. High school student members of Key Club perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and holding elected leadership positions at the club, district and international levels.

KEY CLUB 3

I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and world; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Key Club aims to cooperate with school principals and teachers to provide high school students with invaluable experience in living and working together and to prepare them for useful citizenship. Our members develop initiative and leadership skills by serving their schools and communities. In doing so, we hope to promote and accept the following ideals:

To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. To promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship and social contacts. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship. To provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render unselfish service and to build better communities. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and good will.

OFFICER M Howdy Austin Kiwanis, we are so elated in all the new members that have

t n e dis er P- o C

decided to join our club causing a triple in our size from last year. We have amazing opportunities and events planned this much to keep our spirits strong despite not being able to volunteer in person. Our first event will be our School Supply Drive on Saturday, October 3rd. We are hoping to collect many supplies in order to close the gap caused by coronavirus this year. We also have the wonderful opportunity to promote Bags of Hope this month all over social media which is about the inequalities existing within the foster care system. In addition, we will be introducing our new and exciting leadership team application in which members will get an opportunity to help lead to one of our community-based service projects. We are hoping for a large amount of input as the greater amount of participation we have, the better we can serve our community. One of our community-based service projects will be working to produce and create PPE care kits for our very own staff and faculty as they navigate their way back to school. As we continue to have more meetings and opportunities this month we hope to begin a journey with our members to foster compassion, leadership, compassion, and inclusivity not only within ourselves but also in our community. From our many volunteer opportunities this month to our fun events that will be planned we cannot wait to see what the rest of October has in store.

Yours In Service,

Abena Boateng 5

MESSAGE Hey y’all! It’s me again your editor/webmaster, Hannah! I am so thrilled to see the amount of students interested in Key Club at both our Interest meetings

participated in our first event, the School Supply Drive at Pecan Park. Please continue to check our social media pages to hear about many more upcoming events and service opportunities. Speaking of service opportunities, we are

r oti d E

and our First General Meetings! Thank you to all of the members who

excited to finally begin sharing our first service project with you, Bags of Hope. Our goal for Bags of Hope is to not only provide multiple service projects to you guys, but to broadcast awareness of the various stresses and changes these young children our going through in today’s foster care system. Also, starting in October, every month we will select a few members to have the opportunity to join our leadership team, in which they will help us plan our events for the month, and decide what service projects we can participate in. The deadline to apply will be October 10th. We encourage all members to apply; this will help you to stand out in the officer elections for the next school year. Don’t forget you can add an article to the newsletters for a club point. Even though Austin’s Key Club is just now beginning for the 2020-2021 school year, my fellow officers and I can agree that it’s going to be a very amazing and prosperous one. Thank you for choosing to make an impact in your community by becoming a member in Key Club. Love you guys!

Yours In Service,

Hannah Odewale 6
