1J Motorcycle Lions Club was able to help Hines VA with their Presents for Heroes Wrapping Party. Lions were so happy and honored to be able to assist and take part in such a great event!
As your Vice Governor's have finished their state training, and are moving on to LCI International Training, I thought it was a good time to ask the important question, "Who's on Deck?" That is a question that is a key part of your Leadership Team's responsibilties, finding, promoting, and developing the next generation of Lion's Leaders. There are so many ways for that to happen.
Are you promoting attendance at your District functions?, state training opportunities? developing local opportunities? Are you talking about and suppporting the USA/Canada Forum? Your district conventions, the upcoming state sponsored Spring Forum, and leadership training are a tremendous way to connect Lions together and give them the information & knowledge they need to make them great Lions. It is also a way to give Lions confidence in their Lions
knowledge which helps them see themselves in ever more responsible roles in Lions.
I was recently reminded of an opportunity that might be a fit for a regional offering. I would like to thank Lion Anne Vinyard for posing this as an opportunity. The MD currently focuses on the Regional Lions Leadership Institute (RLLI),while LCI sponsors an Advanced Lions Leadership Institute (ALLI) both of which involve expense and possible lengthy travel, however there is another option.
There is a program for newer Lions, the Emerging Lions Leadership Institute (ELLI) and this LCI curriculum focuses on the skills and information Lions can use to take on roles within their clubs. This could be a perfect fit for your Lions. It keeps the program more local, can be tailored to local issues, and keeps the cost down. LCI has a grant option for a District to
sponsor one of these programs and there is also an application to self fund the program. Traditionally the grant application needs to be submitted early in the year, but it never hurts to ask if funds are still available. You can also get a jump on a proposal for the coming Lion year which will be here before you know it.
Please make sure you are a Leader in promoting Lions learning opportunities! Also remember I am available to assist you in any way that I am able as is the entire GAT TEam!

On December 1st the Oregon Lions Executive Board met at Alpine Chiropractic Clinic where Lion Jerry Hinrichs presented Doctors Seth and Carri Anderson with Melvin Jones Fellowship Awards for their service to the Oregon Lions Club as club presidents and long-standing members.

At the Christmas Party the club had a raffle of prizes for the Ecumenical Council. $130.00 was raised for the council.

On December 15 the DurandLions
unloaded 264 hams which they had sold. On the next days they delivered them and collected a profit of over $2,000.00 for our projects. Here is what it looks like after we got them all off the truck.
On December 3rd during the Christmas Festival in Polo the Polo Lions Club held a Christmas dinner. The dinner was held at the Polo fire station. It was a busy and successful evening. The members that volunteered are: Mark Ebert, Ellen

Senior Gather is normally the 3rd Thursday of each month, but in November they combine their lunch and bingo with a special Salute to our Veterans. North Boone High School Choirsangthenationalanthem,and the Band played the Military Anthem, Veterans stood when their particular branch's anthem was played and were met with applause to thank them for their service.

The Genoa Lions invited the 12 finalists in the district Spelling Bee todinnerthispastWednesdaynight (1/18) at the Genoa-Kingston Middle School. Three students from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades were
successful in their class spelling bees and ready to spell their way to the regional spelling bee to be held at Sycamore High School on March 18, 2023. The winner of this year’s Genoa-Kingston “Scripps Spelling Bee” was Alayna Johnson, a 5th grader at Genoa Elementary School andthe daughterofAbbeyJohnson Richards of Genoa. The secondplace winner was Kaden Sosnowski, a 6th grader at Genoa-Kingston Middle School and the son of Kevin and Kerri Sosnowski of Genoa. The final two words to trip up Kaden were “benefitted” and “Chicago”. Alayna only misspelled “peevish”, forcing an extra round for her to complete her victory. The alternate for the regional is Gabe Fultz, another 5th grader, who took 3 rounds to secure his position, after a winner was found. Dinner was hosted by Lion President Ron Sheahan, of the Genoa Lions Club, which provided trophies for the 1st and 2nd place spellers and a pepperoni pizza for first place. McDonalds provided, free of charge, twelve $10 “Arch Cards” for the participants this year, as they
have in the past 5 years. Mr. Uili of G-K Middle school acted as “pronouncer” and Principal Butcher (G-K Middle School), Principal Andrews (G-K Elementary), and spelling bee Coordinator Emily Fowler,actedasthe3judgesforthe event. School Superintendent and Genoa Lion Brent O’Daniell was theretosupporthisclubandschool district as well. Allparticipantsthis year:

With 24 eyeglass collection boxes throughout the Joliet area, the Joliet Noon Lions keep busy sorting through all the donated items. Themembersbringtheitems to the home of Lions Bobbi & John Joseph Honiotes for the final sorting. The glasses are then deliveredtotheFoundationofficein DeKalb. Since August of 2022, the following items were collected and delivered: 1295 eyeglasses (about 70% of them were plastic), 29 hearing aids, 23 ink cartridges, 24 cell phones, 4.8 pounds of keys and 4.3 pounds of pull tabs.
Lion Derrald “Doc” Taylor is a HUGE part of the MokenaLionsClub and our State Foundation. His knowledge and understanding of hearing and vision issues and his connection to organizations that WE SERVE is vital to the good work
