Mary Pemberton the current SST for MD-1 has turned in her resignation due to family and health issues. Her last day will be April 30, 2023. It has been a pleasure to work with SST Mary and her leaving will be a big loss to MD-1. But we must move forward.

The Council of Governors are working together to put a plan in place that fills this position.

Lions of Illinois, Inc. State Secretary/Treasurer Position Applicants Needed

The 2022-2023 MD-1 Council of Governors is now accepting applications for a Secretary/ Treasurer (SST) for the Lions of Illinois, Inc. This is an Administrative Assistant/ Bookkeeper position for the MD-1 Council of Governors who are members of Lions Club International. The position is a part time position for approximately 24- 32 hours/ week. The actual work schedule will be established by the successful applicant and the Council of Governors. The State Office is located at 828 South 2nd Street, Suite 101, in Springfield, IL 62704. The position will occasionally require work on evenings, weekends (estimated to be between 4 and 6 times a year), and some overnight stays. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

If interested, you are encouraged to apply regardless of what area of the state you live in, although you must be able to report to the State Office location in Springfield, Illinois for work during established office hours.

The following are the key responsibilities of the position. A complete job description will be provided to all applicants of interest. This is not a complete list of all job duties.

• Attend Council, Committee, and Special meetings and provide agendas, take minutes, coordinate materials, rooms, and supplies as needed.

• Meeting Planning and negotiating agreements to secure hotel rooms, meeting space, IT needs and meals for Council Meetings, State Forums, State Convention and Leadership seminars.

• Attend Conventions and Forums as needed and coordinate materials, rooms, and supplies.

• Answer phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication in a timely manner

• Accounts Payable functions – process all reimbursements to MD-1 Lions per Rules of Audit.

• Account Receivable functions: Strong skillset with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office programs, and setting up and maintaining a tickler file.

• Experience in Fund accounting a plus.

• Prepare financial statements, budgets, balance accounts and reconcile bank statements. Prepare dues statements semiannually to all clubs in the MD-1 IL.

• Point person for annual audit.

• Deposit receipts regularly

• Strong attention to detail

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function well under deadlines and stressful situations.

• Punctual and able to work in a group setting or alone with little guidance with motivation to find answers and solves problems as they arise.

Our International Guest Past International President Judge Brian Stevenson

Judge Brian Stevenson, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was elected to serve as President of the International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 70th International Convention, held in Taipei, Taiwan in July 1987. He has been a Lion since 1966. He served from 1991-94 as Chairman of the Campaign SightFirst which, at the time, was the largest and most successful campaign in the history of Lions Clubs International. He has earned numerous awards for his dedication and service including the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor granted by the association toits members.He isalsoa ProgressiveMelvinJonesFellow. PIP Stevenson has been a trial judge in the Criminal Division of the Provincial Court of Alberta since 1974. He continues to serve as a supernumerary judge of that court. He has been recognized in his many voluntary contributions including in 2002, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth IIawarded him withherGolden JubileeMedal.He hasfourdaughters,six granddaughters, five grandsons, and three great-grandsons.

1J 2023 Convention Info & Registration

Greetings MD1 Lions,

The District 1J Convention is a little over a month away and we are looking forward to seeing you! I understand we have had some issues with posting info on the MD1 site, so I'm sending this to you personally.

• Registration - The high level timeline and paper form are attached. You can also go to the District 1J website and register online. (district1jlions.org) All attendees must be registered, including those only attending Friday night. We have some fun times planned for all, and hope you join us to celebrate everyone's accomplishments this year. Deadline for convention registration with meals is Saturday, April 1st. (DGs, 1VDGs and 2VDGs should have received an email from your counterpart in 1J with this information and a special discount code.)

• Rooms - Make sure to get your room booked to ensure the most fun without worrying about heading back home. Deadline for Hotel Reservations at the special rate is March 18th! Go to the Holiday Inn Carol Stream and use Group Code L23. $99 per night King or Double Queen.

• Program Ads - If you are interested in placing an ad, information on sizes and pricing is attached. Contact PCC Jerome Perez at Lion_Jerry_Perez@hughes.net. Deadline for ad/page submissions is March 10th.

1H Convention Info & Registration

The District 1-H Lions Convention will be held on April 21 and 22 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center, 226 - 17th St., Rock Island, IL. Attached is the registration form.

Festivities begin a 5:00 PM Friday, April 21 in the Rock Island Ale House which is located on the 1st floor of the hotel. There will be complimentary hot appetizers furnished by the District.

The Convention will convene at 8:30 AM Saturday, April 22 in the Grand Ballroom which is located on the 2nd floor of the hotel.

International Director Ben Apeland from Bozeman, MT will be our guest.

The committee is working on different progams that will help your club reach its fullest potential in your community. Please see the attached agenda.

There is no registration fee for the Convention. That is paid for by your District dues. There is a nominal charge for Saturday's lunch. You can pay for that by credit card by following this link or scanning this QR Code:

Hotel space is available at a discounted rate for the event. (See the information on the registration form.)

Come and socialize with Lions from throughout the District. Vote and meet your new District officers. Maybe you will receive a District Award?!?
