UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY POLICY OF AZKUNA ZENTROA ALHÓNDIGA BILBAO Azkuna Zentroa – Alhóndiga Bilbao is a Society and Contemporary Culture Centre in Bilbao, with a local and international perspective, and open to dialogue with different communities of audiences. It is the place to experience culture as a practice, as a process, as a space for experiences. We work with people, artists, agents and artistic communities and with hybrid, multilateral programming models that favour the daily life of the contemporary to reach all communities of audiences. We pay special attention to current creation in Basque and to feminist perspectives in art, with mediation and education as a way to generate critical knowledge and transform society through art and artists. Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao is a public space that promotes respect for cultural and social diversity, integration, equal opportunities and access to information and knowledge. From the start, we have assumed a firm commitment, in all possible areas of our activity, to achieve universal accessibility.

This commitment has been reflected in a series of actions gathered under the UNE 170001 Standard for Universal Accessibility. To achieve this objective, collaboration of all the people who work in the centre is required, especially those in close contact with its visitors.
Here are some of the fundamental aspects of this standard that affect all the people in the centre in the performance of their activity:
1. The Center must comply with the applicable legislation regarding accessibility from all legislative areas, the DALCO accessibility requirements, as well as with the obligations derived from permits, licenses, etc. granted by official bodies and other commitments that AZ-AB subscribes to. 2. The Centre must establish and maintain a Universal Accessibility Management System that allows for continuous progress and improvement in this field. This System must conform to what the UNE 170001 standard sets forth.
3. All the people of AZ-AB must collaborate in the achievement of the objectives of the Management System in the specific tasks entrusted to them, and in all the usual ones of their professional work in which aspects my arise regarding accessibility. 4. The Universal Accessibility Management System must be disseminated internally to raise awareness to the people of AZ-AB of the aspects in which each individual must act on this matter. 5. The System must be a dynamic instrument in a permanent state of progress, both in terms of structure (documentation, organization, etc.) as in the specific objectives that are proposed each year. All people in AZ-AB may propose initiatives in this regard, which must be carefully studied and assessed. 6. In the new projects to be developed, we will take into account the aspects regarding Universal Accessibility. 7. These basic principles are specified and deployed in specific accessibility objectives that are periodically evaluated to verify compliance and establish the necessary measures in case such compliance is threatened. 8. Awareness of this Policy and the participation of all people in its implementation is an essential requirement to fulfill our mission and achieve the planned objectives.
