Gabonak Arte, it’s time for fun Gabonak Arte is the proposal of Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao aimed at children and families to enjoy and share artistic experiences. In this year’s programme there are innovative proposals both in formats and in the contents. The innovative proposals in formats facilitate the approchement to contemporary creation, while those in the contents move towards sensitivity and awareness in favour of integration, reflection and constructive criticism, upholding respect and tolerance for diversity. During these days, Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao becomes an intergenerational and collective entertainment meeting point, in association with artists who use theatre, dance, words, music or architecture to propose another vision as regards the world which we inhabit. A habitat under threat due to climate change and in whose protection children and youth have been empowered in an exemplary manner. This awareness of the need to safeguard the future and protect the ecosystem is one of the key points of the entertaining and educational proposal of this edition. For this reason, the environment, responsible consumption, climate change, recycling and reuse are concepts which are more present than ever before in this programming. Likewise, gender equality, respect for diversity, solidarity and cooperation, are principles which are always promoted at Azkuna Zentroa. Gabonak Arte presents in Bilbao some of the shows, installations, laboratories and workshops from the local and international contemporary scene, which motivate all audiences. People of all ages can enjoy the process of their creation and become the protagonists. We believe that creativity and artistic education are values which are part of the daily activities of society as a whole, including children, as a fundamental element of their evolutionary and collective development. They shape their emotional education and help to develop their mental and communication skills to cope with the challenges posed by differences.

Among the theatrical companies, we highlight La Baldufa, Catalan performing arts company with extensive tour both in the state and in European Festivals; Eléctrico 28, collective made up of artists from Austria and Catalonia from the performing arts world with clown backgrounds, physical theatre, street art and dance; Artists Jorge Dutor, Guillem Mont de Palol and Cris Blanco, internationally known, who share language, sense of humour and the same way of understanding the scene. Also Krego-Martín Danza, (Begoña Krego and María Martín), defined by its involvement in raising awareness and creating new audiences; Mama Crea, created by Nuria M. Cres and Josune Martinez, a theatre and cultural event-making company; and Lari Produkzioak, conformed by Maria Urcelay and Yogurinha Borova. MAMA CREA
Bapateko istorioak Within the Bapateko istorioak project, sudden narrations in unusual places, The Thief of Time, our host, will make us travel in his ‘time machine’. This year the project is located in the Hondartza installation, a beach frozen in time. Two women, Miss Karusa and Woman, invite us to enter this beach where they will talk to us about the importance of understanding the flora and fauna surrounding us. This installation pays tribute to Man de Camelle, an artist who lived by and for the sea, art and nature. This project is a specific production of Mama Crea for Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao. Mama Crea is a group of curious people who have been sniffing out new containers for stage art since 2005. They are attracted by difference, looks from different angles and unconventional ways, and are engaged in the creation of customised artistic products.

Language is a living being whose bones, muscles, veins, etc. are each of the words contained in its nucleus i.e., the biography and emotions of our day-to-day. Words are born, grow, are used, disappear, adapt to the times, etc., taking on new meanings and paths. Do you remember when you first heard words like biodiversity? Do you know what spinning wheel means? Have you ever seen one? Is the word clapback in the dictionary?

PANPOTX KULTUR ELKARTEA
Lorategian
A multisensorial room with interactive spaces designed to stimulate senses and generate experiences which help children find meaning to the sensations they perceive. An atmosphere of calm, safety and protection is recreated through lighting, aromas, music, sounds, textures, etc., inviting children to explore and play. Can we imagine a place where children can create, imagine and express themselves through lights and shadows? A place to connect through our senses, to distract oneself and let oneself go, to connect with a specific object and transport ourselves through sound, touch and sight. In Lorategian, children experiment with their senses through the different spaces of a typical Basque cottage: from the greenhouse where they will play with shadows, passing through trees where they will develop psychomotricity, to the stable, a space for multisensorial games. And finally, the garden, an artistic space dedicated to creativity for visual and tactile exploration. PANPOTX Kultur Elkartea. This cultural project aimed at attending the needs of children’s leisure emphasises the development of children’s artistic skills through activities of dynamisation and encouraging reading for pre-readers.

Taking musical genre as a reference, a research of different narratives transversally related to dance, installation, voice, body and movement, is carried out. The aim is to develop a series of experiences which cause bodies to relate to each other with their agreements and disagreements.

Sra Polaroiska comprising Alaitz Arenzana and Maria Ibarretxe, Az Associated Artists and Gure Artea 2017 Award winners, revolves around the art of action, stage creation and choreography. Their work is based on the search for other spaces and languages, where the body and its relationship with the space in which it finds itself is always the main protagonist. Their works are intentionally ambiguous, playing with roles associated with the body, destabilising the onlooker’s view, obliging him/her to put him-/herself in the position of what he/she is watching.

LA CASA DEL VACÍO
Laboratory around Paisajes Lúdicos Using recycled materials made by La casa del vacío, this laboratory revolves around the work Paisajes Lúdicos. Jugar en Blanco, by artist Leticia Paschetta. Accompanied by live music, we explore the void from different viewpoints working with naturally white materials like chalk and plaster. For the purpose of fostering creativity and group work, spontaneity and experimentation are worked through a construction process, designing and creating own free autonomous structures. This workshop/installation explores the void from a topological position, i.e. seeking its essence, structure, and reason for being, while working the void from different formal aspects such as music, 2 and 3 dimensions. The activity is accompanied by specific musical pieces performed live by the musician Pablo Llamas, thereby generating an environment which stimulates concentration and creativity. La casa del vacío is an architecture and art school which has been working in museums and schools since 2011 carrying out educational installations and projects.

Paisajes Lúdicos. Jugar en Blanco Paisajes lúdicos. Jugar en Blanco explores the boundaries between art, design and play creating experiences across spaces and challenging our perceptions to last as beautiful memories. «Feel textures, sounds and aromas while the body sinks between foamy forms» Blanco (White) is a space of transitions and transformations, which merges figure and background, where the installation goes beyond the material fact, and the artistic sense emerges from the changing and indeterminate movement that unfolds inside, transforming into infinite landscapes, worlds of possibilities, sensations and stimuli of freedom. An installation to play and experience, what does the colour white transmit us? Clouds, snow, sea foam, the softness of the sheets…. White is the sum of all colours, one of the most powerful lights and at the same time, a support, a blank sheet of creativity, the one that scares us most in its emptiness, but on which everything can emerge. Leticia Paschetta. Architect, Master in Design (UNAV), university professor, founder of the Paschetta + Cavallero Arquitectos studio and creator of Paisajes Lúdico brand, from where it merges art, design and structural innovation, developing industrial models and invention patents. She was selected by the HUB to carry out the International Pavilion of the Barcelona during the DesignWeek 2019.

KREGO MARTIN DANZA
Towards Route 43 Body language is an expression format which covers multiple planes, and dance is the quintessential body language. A very important part of human beings is our body, which is not only a vehicle to transport our mind, but also a means of feeling things around us, what we use to communicate and interact with, what we travel with, etc. Towards Route 43 is a bodily experience and a journey in the company of others, with all our senses. The 43 columns distributed throughout the space talk to us about the past, the future and above all the present. Marble, ceramic, brick, steel, etc. We will dance with this landscape where the imagination turns it into a forest or beach, etc., from China to Honolulu. Our matter, that is, the body, becomes integrated as yet another element. A body open to laughter, solid and liquid, music, company, etc., a body travelling along Route 43. Krego-Martín Danza comprising Begoña Krego and María Martín, kicked off with the street show Así y Restar in 2011. The company is defined by its involvement in awareness and the creation of new audiences, producing works for children and the entire family, where humour and play are essential elements. Their shows have toured numerous National and International Festivals. Parallel to this, both develop a successful professional career in the dance panorama of the Basque Country, working with different companies likewise imparting dance workshops 14

ELÉCTRICO 28
Full House Full House is a modern fable about urban cohabitation, difference and overcoming prejudices. Without text but via physical theatre and live music, the show explains the story of the neighbours Koala, Dog and Horse, who live next door to each other. Koala is in love with the world. Dog is a solitary enthusiast of classical music, whilst energetic Horse is always cooking four dishes at the same time. They are so busy with themselves and their day-to-day that they are unaware of the existence of others. One day, Tiger arrives in the community and invites the other tenants to a party. Everything starts to change from thereon. Eléctrico 28 is a collective of Austrian and Catalonian artists from the world of stage arts with different kinds of trajectories, such as clown, physical theatre, urban art and dance. They have been doing urban interventions and site-specific projects with humour and love for 6 years. Their main projects have been Entre Tazas and Momentos Estelares de la Humanidad (performed in Tàrrega and other countries, like Austria, Italy, Norway and Germany).

Pequeño Big Blue
Pequeño Big Blue is a plastic proposal where gesture, dance and visual arts dialogue to provide a play stimulating experience for toddlers and their companions, encountering emotions along the way, which we can all recognise. Pequeño Big Blue is blue, large and very curious. His curiosity gets him into situations and places which he does not know how to get out of later on. Luckily, he has Ene who is always there to help him. Little by little, Pequeño Big Blue has to learn how to solve things by himself. Are Ene and Pequeño Big Blue so very different from each other as might seem at first sight? The only thing certain is that they make a unique team. A short journey at the hand of Ene and Pequeño Big Blue which may raise some the following questions: Colourful bugs are the ones that bite the most? Can I make a cloud with my hands and a bit of imagination? Why does it rain on you and not on me? When you get angry everything turns red. And when you are sad? Is it only night when I get sleepy? PanicMap is an artistic platform founded by Juan Pablo Mendiola, a theatre director, playwright and digital stage device researcher, with Margarita Burbano in 2012. PanicMap is committed to innovation, articulating narrative, the body, space, and digital device in stage arts.

You are somewhere, but you do not know what it is like and there are not many clues to find out: 3 pieces of fabric, foam and some sticks. The bell rings. Orange enters. Beware of the dog. Halfway through the performance the beginning of the show falls from the ceiling: look at that. I will go out. The bell rings. It seems to be raining outside. Shall we sing the song? A game of lies, minimal actions, unexpected mini shows. The minimum is a space of rarities penetrated by humour, a place to sublime the day-to-day life, the little and minimum. A collection of lies, where we play at believing them and accepting the implausible as reality. An appeal to the imagination to build an invisible space which becomes present through sounds, things which enter and ineffective effects, i.e. minimal strategies to achieve maximum immersion in this created dimension. Thus, the sound space is important in this work in order to build what cannot be seen and what we do not know whether it exists or not. Jorge Dutor and Guillem Mont de Palol have been an artistic duo since 2009. They work on games with language, the absurd and everyday life. Cris Blanco works with the combination of stage genres, transformation of codes and objects, sleight of hand, literality and live music. The three of them share a language, sense of humour and the same way of understanding the stage.

Nail Dance Nail Dance is a performative workshop somewhere between an art-attack programme and a bio-dance session. Said workshop works on effeminacy and being camp from two places where they relate to each other. On the one hand, nails and the art of fantasy manicure and, on the other, dance as an effeminate manner of bodies. The idea behind the workshop is to have a space where we can create an improvised manicure for ourselves with different materials, such as paper, adhesive tapes, nail varnish, glitter, etc. After which we will dive into a collective dance session to play with the expressivity of our bodies, particularly in relation to our hands and their communication capacity. The aim of this workshop is to create a playground where families (family understood as an expanded concept) can relate to each other, exhibit themselves and recognise themselves from these places which are unusual in our dayto-day lives. Javier Vaquero. Creator and educator in the field of dance, he studied in Cordarts (Rotterdam) and worked as a dancer in different companies in the Netherlands for years. He has lived in Barcelona, Perú, Colombia and Madrid, where he has worked as a choreographer (presenting his works in different European and South American countries), as an educator (university professor in Lima and Bogota), and as an agent (running the artistic direction of 2 different spaces focused on dance in Barcelona). 18

Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao presents the Basque premiere of Safari, the latest work by La Baldufa. Aimed at young children, this show delicately handles the topic of bullying through savanna animals. Piñote and Calabacín travel to the savanna after learning about the mysterious disappearance of the lion. During their inquiries, they interrogate the giraffe, monkey, elephant, crocodile, etc., and in the middle of this adventure they bump into the sad downcast lion who does not know how to roar. La Baldufa’s intrepid investigators, who are determined to solve the case and lend him a hand, will try to find out why he is so crestfallen. Why does the crocodile persist in annoying the lion? Why do the other animals also insist on upsetting him? What will it take for the king of the savanna to pluck up courage? La Baldufa (Lleida, 1996). Their main aims are to create high quality multidiscipline shows, using the maxim of theatrical resources; to offer shows for the general public but chiefly children; and to create shows ideologically committed to the values of solidarity, tolerance and respect.

PREM IERE
Meri, Mari eta Lari Meri is pregnant and will soon have a baby. She bumps into Mari, a friend she has not seen for ages. Mari did not know Meri was pregnant, so it was a wonderful surprise for her. And of course the typical question was raised, i.e. Mari asked Meri what the baby was going to be. Why do we have to ask if it is going to be a boy or a girl? Surely it is up to the baby to decide in the future? Why must we limit ourselves to just those two options? The baby can choose whatever it wants to be: a dreamer, dancer, pelotari, fighter, jostalari, etc. So, it is because of all that, they have decided to call it Lari. Meri, Mari eta Lari is a theatre play of songs and stories. The stories tell us about the multiplicity of genders, different family models, tackling our fears and, in short, freedom. The songs performed in the show were composed by Yogurinha Borova for her album Sentipenak askatu, and have been released to the youngest public. This show written by Galder Pérez and created with the actress María Urcelay is aimed at a children’s audience; however, it is appropriate for audiences of all ages at the same time. The fact is we all need and want to release our feelings.
