REAL BA APPLIED MEDIA

DEGREE SHOW CATALOGUE

2019

The BA (Hons) Applied Media is a one year top up degree. Applicants must have completed a Foundation Degree or HND in a relevant subject. The course is suitable for students from varied media backgrounds including photography, televisionand film production, animation, advertising and digital visualisation. The philosophy of the programme is underpinned by the concept of ‘360 Degree Media’. This contemporary approach will ensure that students are fully equipped for the media industries of the twenty-first century. It builds on the notion of media convergence, of technological change which brings all media closer together in methods andcapabilities. ‘360 Degree Media’ incorporates not only the changes brought about by the shift in new media technologies but also the interrelationship of social, cultural, industrial, commercial and promotional environments. In essence, this allows the programme to create media practitioners who will understand the balance between their specialist knowledge and a wider awareness and understanding across media industries.

The BA Applied Media represents a diverse range of media and photography practices from short films, promotional content creation and online web sites to fine art photography and print publications. This year’s work shows an engagement with a range of technologies and mediums; all clearly demonstrate a wide range of creativity and media skills the students have gained through the three years of their studies at Truro and Penwith College. They have developed concepts and ideas that will be key for creative businesses throughout Cornwall or to develop their own work as creative media practitioners, adding to the rich cultural life of Cornwall and beyond.

National Parks is a project that aims to challenge the traditional ways in which we perceive the National Parks of the United Kingdom through photographic imagery. These locations are often referred to as natural spaces, these photographs challenge this notion and try to explore other ways in which we might percieve picturesque landscapes.

The main object is to gather all the information and history of rowing and put it into an online archive. My focus has been bringing all the history of rowing together to create a show case for the 30th Anniversary of the World Pilot Gig Championships which is happening on the weekend of the 3rd of May 2019.

Second Son is Matthew’s first major project taking an alternate idea to there being a Second Coming of Christ; for there to be a Second Son of God. However, this new offspring doesn’t get an easy upbringing, not only is his existence being kept a secret from mankind but he also gets kidnapped and shown the cruelty of mankind; leaving him to decide on whether to help mankind or not.

Tegan Ward For this project, I decided to focus on capturing Cornwall for the “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Capturing Cornish landscapes and then editing them so they have a filmic look. I particularly enjoy landscape photography, so this project for the AONB was a real treat which enabled me to use a variety of different materials and techniques.
