It's hard to catch breath for Forest fans at the moment. In just eight days Forest have been crushed at home by a relegation rival; climbed out of the relegation zone; sacked a manager and appointed a new one; and found time to win twice on the road – routing the world's richest club as part of the bargain. New man Billy Davies was a keen spectator at the City of Manchester Stadium, and he could be forgiven for wondering how Forest have ended up in any trouble at all. It was a bright start for the home side, but City's frustration festered and multiplied as Forest consistently stubbed out their advances. By the time Shaun Wright-Phillips was subbed passes were going wildly astray and gloved fingers were wagging across the pitch. A Forest side as industrious as any I have ever seen flung themselves at the mercy of every shot, wrestled for every second ball and played with a vibrant pluck worthy of victory in any game. Tyson's strike was greeted with special occasion celebrations. The kind where one is inclined to jump into the arms of bearded men that others usually cross streets to avoid. The noise levels explode, fans scream until their lungs deflate and Report by Alex Campbell

their heads pound, and the mass of bodies writhes and squirms from left to right. It is pandemonium. And why not? Nathan Tyson has his merits, but he doesn't do that. Not ever. Goal number two was perfectly timed and gratefully received by the same explosive celebrations. The travelling fans sung throughout half time. The City crowd was a dour spread of scornful faces and vulgar gestures. The home side huffed and puffed in the second half, but Paul Smith – brushing aside fears about his confidence – was equal to everything. Dietmar Haman's bizarre throw in teed up substitute Joe Garner to seal the victory in style. The post game celebrations will not be forgotten in a hurry, and regardless of the unimportance of the FA Cup compared with survival there is no doubting the importance of the result for morale. The Derby County connection means Billy Davies will have to work to endear himself at the City Ground. But if his games are even half as entertaining as Pemberton's two have been, it won't be long before Davies is truly a red. Match Ratings: Smith – 9 – several excellent saves and steady throughout. Chambers – 7.5 – undoubtedly his best display of the season; sensible, careful and solid. Breckin – 7.5 – a fine game; simple and efficient. Morgan – 8 – assured, confident and as solid as a mountain. Cohen – 10 – our best attacker, our best defender, our past passer and our best tackler. On the strength of this display, the Sheikh will be opening his cheque book for Chris Cohen and not Kaka. Anderson – 8 – caused endless mischief on the break. Perch – 7 – subbed early on through injury. McGugan – 9.5 – he was Premiership standard. Thornhill – 8 – after spending the early stages of the game in the wilderness he recovered to deliver the simple, composed passing that would seal victory. Tyson – 8.5 – a screamer of a goal, and he had the legs to keep City defenders on their toes throughout. Earnshaw – 8.5 – one of his best displays in a red shirt, despite being marked by the imperious Micah Richards. Subs: Wilson – 7.5, Davies – 7.5, Garner – 9.

The Cup Dream may be over but it has been a great experience for everyone connected with Eastwood Town Football Club. The league has always been the clubs priority so this cup run has come as a bonus. The big disappointment for the players was not being able to end their participation in front of a packed Stretford End, Kop End, or in the splendour of a Premiership ground, instead it was to end in less salubrious surroundings of the A-Line Stadium, Kettering. Paul Cox decided to recall Shane Redmond after his enforced return to Nottingham Forest and replace Anton Foster with Paul Robinson, however it was always going to be a big ask for the tall centre half to replace arguably the best midfielder in the UniBond Premier. Eastwood kicked off playing towards their biggest away following in their history. In the third minute, Geohaghon blasted well over the top from the edge of the box, and Westcarr headed over in the early exchanges. Eastwood's first shot came after Ian Holmes laid the ball off to Todd who volleyed well wide of the left-hand upright. Man of the match Mark Hume produced a well-timed tackle in a one-on-one with Kettering's leading goalscorer Gareth Seddon and Geohaghon had to be alert as Lindon Meikle found some space. Although Kettering were enjoying the majority of the play, the Badgers were comfortable in defence restricting the Poppies to long range shots. All that changed in the 24th minute when Kettering scored from their first shot on target. New loan signing Richard Graham beat Alistair Asher and sent a teasing cross to the far post which was met by ex-forest player Craig Westcarr on the half-volley which beat Redmond for power. Lee Harper was well positioned to take Asher's high cross and at the other end, Redmond got down well to push Seddon's low drive to safety. Eastwood had a good penalty appeal waved away after Ross Gardner's cross struck Jaszczun on the arm. For a big defender Guy Branston hit the deck very quickly with the slightest challenge. Sadly for the Badgers fans, experienced referee Mr East brought every one, giving a string of fouls against the Eastwood players. Westcarr volleyed wide after a Jazsczun cross was only half cleared. The Badgers should have made more of a Branston slip, but Jazsczun cleared Gardner's cross-come-shot. Seddon thought he had scored Kettering's second from close range after a through ball from Graham, only to see that the official's flag had been raised for offside. Eastwood started the second half looking more energetic, however Kettering were still enjoying the majority of the possession. Marc Hume and defensive partner Simon Sturdy were still restricting Kettering to long range shots

whilst dominating everything that was in the air. Gareth Seddon tried his luck from distance but was wide of the mark. The game was decided by two refereeing decisions around the hour mark. The referee may well have been the wrong side to witness Andre Boucaud arms wrapped around Paul Robinson as he dispossessed the Badger midfielder, but the linesman was well placed but didn't raise his flag. Boucaud fed Richard Graham who neatly played a ball on to Gareth Seddon. who placed the ball into the far bottom corner. Had the challenge been the other way around I suspect the flag & whistle would have been used rather quickly. Eastwood did manage to peg Kettering back to 2-1moments later. Richard Dunning swung in a deep free kick right into the danger area. The Poppies defence couldn't clear the ball, and Paul Robinson was on hand to drive the ball into the turf and looping over Lee Harper in the Kettering goal. The goal certainly brought Eastwood back into the game. Just moments later, Richard Dunning fed Andy Todd in the box and as the midfielder set himself to shoot, he was sandwiched between two Kettering players, hitting the deck but with the Eastwood bench appealing for a penalty, the referee waved play on. Branston was again pole-axed by a feather as the Badgers threatened, leading to him having to leave the pitch for a second time. Paul Cox switched to 3-4-3 and started to pepper the Kettering defence with long balls looking for the height of Matt Rhead and Peter Knox. On the break Gareth Seddon had a late chance to put the tie to bed after Richard Dunning gifted the ball to Richard Graham, who played in Seddon. However Redmond, made a great save diving to his left to hold the ball with Westcarr lurking. Gamesmanship again reared it's ugly head as Christie feigned a bullet through the head in an attempt to get a penalty, leading to an altercation with Hume, resulting in the referee booking both players. Eastwood continued to press and pressurise Kettering, and almost equalised in the dying seconds when Simon Sturdy got a touch to Shane Redmond's long free kick into the heart of the Kettering box, the ball striking the right hand post and bouncing to safety. The final chance for the Badgers to rescue the game came when Dunning lifted the ball deep into the Kettering penalty area. Branston managed to get his head to the ball but Harper grasped it before it crossed the line denying the Badgers a perverse sense of justice for all the timewasting, correction-Gamesmanship. So the cup run is over for another year, and the way the Kettering fans celebrated was indicative to the eventual winners of the cup. For all their supporters bravado on the forums, it really was their cupfinal. The Eastwood management were disappointed with the way the lads played, Kettering certainly weren't as good as Wycombe or Wrexham, but the players have been magnificent, over the course of the nine cup games. History has been made and the memories of the two Wrexham games, the Wycombe and Harrogate away game will live long for those that were there.

due to an infringement which then saw the game go to in to extra time where Bestwood won through when Andy Tinsley latched on to a ball over the top and lobbed the advancing keeper. Whilst the semi final quartet was made up with Beechdale Villa after they came away from New Venture 3-1 winners courtesy of David Mantle 2 and Martin Cassidy. With all the cup games and the Bingham V's Broxtowe game frozen off only two games took place in the Premier division and all the plaudits must go to Gremio FC. Rooted to the bottom of the table they have found the leap to the Premier division very difficult this season but have turned out week in week out. So as the New Year turned, so did their luck as they gained their first point in a 2 all draw with Sporting Wheelbarrow. Scott Clarke gave them an early lead only to see it cancelled out by Danny Wright but they kept their heads and just before the break they regained the lead again through Clarke. Unfortunately they couldn't hold on as Chris Wiltshire levelled for Sporting on the hour mark to earn a share of the spoils. The Only other game saw Bear Fc deny Kimberley MW the chance to go second in the table as they held their hosts to 3-3 draw. J Fisher 2 and S Turner struck for the home side with A Cumming and substitute S Todd coming off the bench to grab a share of the spoils with a brace. Sean Allen, Steven Kelly, Liam Bates and Matthew Singleton all hit the target as Division One leaders A1 Glazing took full advantage of the teams around them playing in the cup to open up a three point lead at the top with a 4-0 reverse at Bestwood Miners Welfare. Volo also took advantage of the cup games and climbed into third spot with a 3-0 win at home over Springfield thanks to Steven Woolley, Scott Bradburn and Jordan Marsh. AFC Hucknall pulled further away from the bottom pack as Sam Bramley and Ian Benjamin scored a brace apiece in their 4-1 win at DTD. Pure FC found themselves 3-1 down early doors but bounced back to win their division Two encounter with mid table Pride of Erin 6-4 to move up a place in the tightly packed lower end of table. Scoring 4 times at home through David Donachie 3 and Adam Hourigan Erin somehow let the points slip when they let Adam Pearson in to score a hat trick and W Lovegrove, R Sutcliffe and D Perczynski to add to the scoreline. Rise Park was another team to score 4 times and get no reward as they went down by the odd goal in 9 at Notts United. Ricky Kirk top score for the visitors with a brace which was added to by Carl Green and Mark Coleman but not to be out done United hit back through Miles Snape 3, Aaron Large and Karl O'Rafferty. Tony Vi notched a brace as Newcastle consolidated third place with a 4 nil win over FC St George. M.I.S United seem to be in a false position in division Three after they won 3-2 at home to second placed the Mill to climb into mid table courtesy of Aiden Talmey, Adam Rowley and Scott Ratcliffe but their lack of games at the midway point of the season could prove to be their nemesis in the fight for promotion. Bingham Town Reserves pulled off a great win at high flyers Fc Samba who slipped a place after going down 5-2 at home to their struggling opposition. Jamie Perry top scored with a brace for the visitors with John White, Liam Warner and Steve Perry also scoring to give Bingham a moral boosting win. Loz Cox helped himself to 4 goals as La Toque won 6-0 at AFC Hucknall reserves with Gavin Webb and Daniel Brookes also on target. Whilst Ben Townsend and Westleigh Gilliott both got on the score sheet as the Taverners beat Southbank 2 nil away. Report by Jeff Johnson NOTTS SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE - CLUMBER DESTROY BARFLY’S CUP HOPES! The last non-Premier Division side fell at the Quarter Final stage of the Premier Section KO Cup. Nottm Rangers trailed at half-time to a hat trick from Clifton Villa's Justin Jenkins and one each from Jermaine Hollies and Curtis Jackson but the Second Division outfit showed stronger resolve in the second period, reducing the arrears through efforts from Dan Douglas and Simon Taylor before Carl Spencer registered Villa's sixth. Holders Scots Grey had man of the match, Jamie Moore scoring two, with Will Heath and Damian Rennicks also on the scoresheet as they overcame Redhill 4-1, as Dave Wagner replied. Plough Barfly's entertained Clumber but found the visitors on top form as they rattled in six goals without reply, courtesy of two each for Wes Burton and Carl Westcarr and one-a-piece from Richard Liburd and Robert Faulkener. In the only Premier Division game, newcomers Trentside are proving their promotion was no fluke by taking second with a 5-1 victory at Nuthall. They also demonstrated their resolve, by overcoming an early opening goal from the host's Leon Roberts before prolific striker, Nathan Francis equalized midway through the half, before Nick Murphy ended a mazy forty yard run with the goal of the game. The second half started with Mick Hart registering with a cross shot, following a superb assist from the mercurial man of the match; Rory Francis followed by namesake Nathan completing his hat trick. There was a change at the top of Division One, as leaders Trowsers were replaced by Chesterfield Arms following a 3-1 success by the latter. Ross McAughey, Carl Wison and Jamie Moore scored for the homeside and Aaron Baddley responded. Former leaders, Rolls Royce Leisure failed to take full advantage by sharing two goals with BTSC, as Andy Start netted for Leisure and Joshua Cranney replied. Stratford Haven also shared the spoils with FC Clobber, as Steve Farrell registered for the former and Matt Rick for the visitors. Goals from Liam Hatfield, Ashley Evans and Carl Matthews ensured that George Street maintained their challenge with a 3-2 defeat of Old Colonial, for whom Richard Saunders scored twice. Aaron Stuart scored the only goal as Clifton Central inflicted Carlton Catholic's eighth defeat of the campaign. As at the top of Division One, there was a similar change at the head of Division Two, as former leaders Bulwell Rangers were replaced by Sims Metal following the latter's 3-1 home success. The hosts had Norman Wright, Gareth White and Ashley Barrett on the score sheet, with Scott Litchfield scoring for Rangers. Rolls Royce Leisure Villa also lost ground as Andy Smith scored the lone goal for New Fairham. Cotgrave PFC were also made to suffer as Adam Waddeley, Mark Stratford and Shane Jones were on target for Crusader as they won 3-1 with Dan Murphy striking the consolation. Basement outfit Fat Cat are still searching for their first points of the season but came close as Brad Enwright and Gary Thompson struck but were outgunned by Dane Wilson's pair and Thomas Evans' effort in Vernon Villa's Sunday's 3-2 win. Graham St Prims brought their three-month winless run to an end as they claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Heanor Town. Leigh Grant's side have slipped down the table since last picking up three points at the start of October. But they may have turned the corner with this display, a goal in each half from new signing Ben Roffey

wrapping up the win. Matt Timson scored for Heanor but it wasn't enough to stop the Prims. Leaders Borrowash Vics saw their match at Holbrook MW brought to a premature end when it was abandoned at half-time following a breakin at the Shaw Lane clubhouse. That gave Dunkirk the chance to close the gap at the top but they suffered a surprise 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Gedling MW, Marvin Hudson's double and a Ben Middleton strike wrapping up the points. Aaron Large bagged a hat-trick as Gedling Town beat Blackwell MW 4-0, Simon Hore netting the other, while goals from Nick Pollard and Steve Turner wrapped up Hinckley Downes' 2-0 defeat of Ellistown. St Andrews saw off Ibstock United 3-1 thanks to goals from Carl Robinson (two) and Ashley Warner. Danny Stevenson replied for the visitors. The remaining games were postponed due to frozen pitches.

Non-league round-up - games played 3rd January Continued from page 7 turned the game round and the visitors took the points with a 2-1 victory. Damien Miller scored the Bulwell goal. Bentley Colliery where level at half time at Thorne Colliery, but they took control after the interval, to win 3-1. Gregg Thomas scored for Thorne. Matthew Devine (2) and Wayne Morling scored the Bentley goals. Another disappointing defeat for bottom club, Welbeck Welfare, after going in 2-1 down to Kiveton Park they had the chance to equalise but missed a penalty, seemingly their heads dropped and the visitors went on to record a 7-1 win. Robert Gorman hit four, Marc Buxton, Daniel Harrison and Joseph Bass the Kiveton sharp shooters. Mark Smith on target for Welbeck. Carlton Town Reserves continue to lead the way, in the Abacus Lighting Reserves Supreme Division, they took apart Shirebrook Town Reserves at Stoke Lane, winning 7-1. Second placed Heanor Town Reserves, returned to winning ways, accounting for Sutton Town AFC Reserves at the “Town Gary Ricketts who saw red again Ground” winning 5-1. Richard Elks and Ben Holmes both scored twice. The 'Young Lions' are six points adrift of Carlton with one game in hand. Third placed Blidworth Welfare Reserves, won 3-2 at home, against Mickleover Sports Reserves. It was a good start for the New Year for Blidworth's Danny Gee who score all his sides goals. Josh Lowe and Scott McKenzie scored for Sports. A shock defeat for fourth placed Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves they lost to bottom team, Radford Reserves 3-2 at Selhurst Street. Chris Hewitt scored both the Clipstone Welfare goals in their 2-0 win over Blidworth Welfare at the “Lido Ground”. In Abacus Lighting Reserves Premier Division, leaders Southwell City Reserves, extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points, they had a comfortable 4-0 away win at, third placed, Ollerton Town Reserves. Second placed Kiveton Park Reserves game at home against Nettleham Reserves was postponed. and being cup tied respectively. Both teams started brightly with chances being created in both penalty areas. Tom Cahill and Jon Douglas all had chances and Douglas actually put the ball in the back of the net only for the assistant referee ruled it out for offside. At the other end Vill Powell was proving to be a handful and Chris Adamson was required to make a number of excellent saves to keep the Robins in the game. After the interval Ilkeston pressed Sheffield back into their own half and took the lead after 48 minutes when Sam Duncum's shot was blocked by Cahill. Cahill recovered quickly, turned and crashed the ball in to the net from six yards out. The visitors responded well and the

impressive Powell again caused havoc and one shot rebounded off the post and Ilkeston managed to scrambled the ball away. On 73 minutes the home sides nerves were calmed when Duncum broke again down the left and made an intelligent pass to Ben Pringle who fired the ball home from ten yards out. Within seconds Ilkeston were 3-0 up when Cahill swap passes with substitute and then slotted the ball past Walker in the Sheffield goal. The goal effectively killed the game off and the Robins ran out comfortable winners. Man of the Match – Chris Adamson – His saves kept Ilkeston in the game when Sheffield had reasonable hopes of causing an upset. Ilkeston Town: Adamson, Church, Hurst, Hooks, Garner, Murphy, Istead, Pringle, Cahill (Newton), Douglas (Green), Duncum (Shaw) subs not used Wild and Haystead. Arnold Town 1 Eccleshill United 0 Arnold moved up to third in the table courtesy of a narrow victory over the club rooted to the bottom of the table in a 'home' game played at Sandy Lane in Worksop. Arnold failed to get into their stride against a side who had conceded a staggering 87 goals in their previous 19 league games. The key moment came with ten minutes remaining – Arnold won a disputed corner – Brookes floated the corner to the far post where Carruthers headed home his seventh goal in his last four games. To their credit the visitors performed well above their league position creating a number of goal scoring opportunities. Arnold were fortunate that Eccleshill's finishing did not match their approach play with Gorman and Dibbs both failing to hit the target. Arnolds goal attempts were rare – with Halligen untested until Freestone's 57th minute shot. The Eagles had chances to score with Mitchell firing over at the far post and Freestone heading wide. Manager Andy Muldoon was thankful to pick up three points in a game in which his side were well below par. Hemsworth then threatened but Martin Kearney got down well to save low to his left. Hemsworth had loud appeals for a penalty turned won as the game was changing from end to end. Staveley then applied the pressure with Lee Gregory's pace causing the home side plenty of concerns and appeals for handball in the penalty area were waved away by the referee as the game approached half time as the sides went in 0-0. The Hemsworth leading goal scorer Damian Liddle was being well shackled by Andy Brownrigg and Judd Colley and his frustration over

JOKE OF THE WEEK!

HIS FIRST TIME A girl asks her boyfriend to come over Friday night to meet, and have dinner with her parents. Since this is such a big event, the girl announces to her boyfriend that after dinner, she would like to go out and make love for the first time. The boy is ecstatic, but as he has never done the deed before, he takes a trip to the pharmacist to get some condoms. He tells the pharmacist it's his first time and the pharmacist helps the boy for about an hour. He tells the boy everything there is to know about condoms and the birds and the bees. At the register, the pharmacist asks the boy how many condoms he'd like to buy, a 3-pack, 10-pack, or family pack. The boy insists on the family pack because he thinks he will be rather busy, it being his first time and all. That night, the boy shows up at the girl's parents house and meets his girlfriend at the door. 'Oh, I'm so excited for you to meet my parents, come on in!' The boy goes inside and is taken to the dinner table where the girl's parents are seated. The boy quickly offers to say grace and bows his head. A minute passes, and the boy is still deep in prayer, with his head down. 10 minutes pass, and still no movement from the boy. Finally, after 20 minutes with his head down, the girlfriend leans over and whispers to the boyfriend, 'I had no idea you were this religious.' The boy turns, and whispers back, 'I had no idea your father was a pharmacist.' - Send your jokes to info@ballsmania.net

PETER SHAW ROOFING

See page 12 for league tables spilled when he threw an attempted punch at Andy Brownrigg and was duly shown the red card. Hemsworth were battling well down to 10-men as Darren Bland changed his formation to a 3-5-2 as Hemsworth went with one up front. Staveley were pushing on but the final pass was all too often going astray and were unable to penetrate the home defence. Lee Gregory was causing all sorts of problems and the home defence looked nervous every time they were run at and one such run went narrowly close. It looked like both teams had been solid at the back and that the deadlock was not going to be broken but after a Staveley corner caused havoc in the Hemsworth penalty area Danny Robinson's drive was stopped on the goal line but the rebound was smashed home by Ryan Damms in the 78th minute. Hemsworth came back strongly and the danger was coming down the left and a 84th minute right wing cross was headed goal bound by Andy Davies whose effort clipped the legs of Andy Brownrigg with Martin Kearny having it covered the deflection went over the goal line to give Hemsworth back into the game. Staveley then could have won it when Callum Flanagan's cross was met superbly by Lee Gregory whose header went inches wide. A share of the spoils at 1-1 was probably a fair result and both sides taking a point. Darren Bland said afterwards “We feel disappointed having got ourselves in front to be pegged back to 1-1. We knew it would be tough against a strong physical side who play as a team. They are well organised and difficult to play against. Perhaps we may have tried to shut the game down having gone 1-0 up but a point keeps the unbeaten stretch going and that's 12-points from the last 6-games so all in all we're doing OK.”

to see his second shot cleared off the line to deny Newark the lead. Town did get their deserved goal on 34 minutes, when a poor header back to the keeper fell straight into the path of Simon Ellison, who stabbed the ball in on the second attempt. The keeper will feel disappointed he didn't do more to impose himself on the Newark forward. Town didn't manage to create many more opportunities in the first half, with a shot just over the bar by Gareth Sides the closest Yorkshire Main came to an equaliser on 39 minutes. Yorkshire Main started the second half brighter, and had a glorious chance to level the matters just moments into the second half, when a cross fell kindly for Karl Sides, who blazed his shot over the bar from just 6 yards out. After weathering the early storm, the game grew into more of a midfield battle for a spell, with neither side creating clear cut chances. The introduction of David Issott and Jack Beckett on 57 minutes gave Newark a fresh impetus, which they exploited almost immediately. Issott, playing an inch perfect cross field ball to Sam Wilford who drilled the ball past the despairing dive of the keeper to make the score 2-0. 5 minutes later a free kick on the left from Issot was flicked home by Mark Ellison to increase Towns advantage. Town went 4-0 up on 71 minutes to completely demoralise Yorkshire Main, as Simon Ellison's cross was expertly turned in by Louis Cree. The only black mark was a triple sending off ten minutes from the end, Louis Cree of Newark and Fennell and Karl Sides of Yorkshire Main seeing red following an altercation in the far corner. Newark used their man advantage well, and bagged themselves a fifth goal on 85 minutes, Mark Ellison finding brother Simon in the area, giving him an easy finish. After the match Blues manager Rupert Thomas said “I felt Forest Town 1 that in the first half we tried too hard to make every ball a Pinxton 0 killer ball. In the frost covered streets of Arnold, The Eagle Brokencues' long losing run continued, as they capitulated against Railway Volunteers, who consolidated their fourth place position, with a cheers easy victory, thanks to a Man Of The Match performance by their captain, Trevor Chambers who produced two classy performances in both his singles and doubles legs. The Eagles just didn't have the necessary class to force even a close game and after nine straight defeats, it is now conceivable that the Eagles could fall from second at the halfway point in the season to “going down with the Cherry B” by the end.

of the night in the battle of the so-called David B lookalikes, with Hodgie (could pass for David Brent if he wore a wig) beating Cherry landlord Tony Wyatt (looks absolutely nothing like Beckham). On a sad note, the out of form Cherry stalwart, Phil Oliver lost again and so fell below his son, Mitch “The ASBO Kid” Butterworth in the player standings.

The already relegated Cherry Tree B continued the form shown by Derby County last season (and this) when they travelled to Arnold to face second from bottom, Ex Service Club and received yet another drubbing, with Andy “Behind The Bar” Hayes Empire Dragons dropped their first points of the season with a consolidating his position as Bottom of the Averages after narrowly draw against Cherry Tree A after squandering a 6-3 lead, which failing to double his tally of wins for the season . . . to two. included a rare defeat for their new captain and England Junior, Ashley “Donut” Radford, who lost the top spot in the race for the Elsewhere, at Hucknall's premier disco venue, Empire B edged Averages Title to team mate Steve Hotchkiss, who won the match ahead in the race for runners-up spot with a comfortable win over

Victory Club, where despite yet another defeat for Des Dymock, who used to be a good player, wins by Calverton & Arnold Interleague stars, Simon Thompson and Danny Butler over the Kate Moss-esque, Andy “Miss'em” Lewis and Scott Bates respectively, and a first win of the season for Tony ”Definitely no relation to Matt” McDonald albeit against “forfeited leg”, saw the north Notts boys safely over the line. In the Division Two top of the table clash, a close win for Carlton Top Spot over Balfour Club, puts them in prime position for the automatic promotion place with only Major Oak now able to catch them. There was also a good win for the fast improving Carlton Liberal Club against The Longbow. Report by Trevor Chambers

DIVISION 1 Only one first division match survived this week as three fixtures were postponed due to illness and injury. Stadium Leisure climbed out of the relegation zone and into the play-off places with a terrific win against Arnold Civil Defence “B”. The victory was all the more impressive because Stadium had to concede two frames away from home as they were a player short. At Stadium, Alan Cunningham was unlucky to come up against an on-fire Barry Stark. Cunningham broke off in the traditional manner leaving white in baulk only for Stark to pot a terrific red from which he proceeded to make a 28 break. Luckily for Stark, Cunningham was forced to play his next shot from the jaws of the yellow pocket. He caught the pack far too thick leaving Stark in the balls and he than made a superb 72 break for a 100-0 victory. Steve Butler fought out a close frame with Andy Nichols. Butler was 28 points in front with the colours remaining and Nichols potted the yellow, green and brown but still needed one snooker. Butler fluked a snooker on the blue which Nichols failed to escape from and Butler ran out a 67-31 winner. Pete Gormley beat Pete Ellins 80-22 to put Stadium 3-0 up going into the pairs. Cunningham and Ellins took on Stark and Butler and it was the

Arnold pair to took an early 31-8 lead with the help of a good 16 break from Cunningham. Stark fought back though with a good run of 40 and this spurred the Stadium pair on to a 57-31 win and a 4-0 home win for Stadium. At Arnold, with Stadium a player short, Danny Di Folco or Bob Walker had to win one of their singles frames to seal an important victory for Stadium. Bob Walker did the business as he beat Sean Kelly with the help of a couple of flukes in the middle bags. Kirk Wesselby simply could not get into his frame against Danny Di Folco and the Stadium player ran out an easy winner to secure a 6-2 match victory for a delighted Stadium team. DIVISION 2 Sherwood Social Club showed their class as they whitewashed City Hospital Leisure Centre 8-0. At City Hospital, Gareth Evans beat Rob Wallace 67-39, Paul Bell beat Steve Tring 61-25, Kev Smith beat Russ Kirk 50-22 and Les Smith beat Des Oldham 49-40. At Sherwood, Lee Crombie beat Lee Archer 49-37, Brendan Murtagh beat Dennis Peet 60-28, Ross Scarborough beat Alan Taylor 46-14 and Andy Fitton beat Barry Chadwick 50-10. Report by Steve Butler

The latest news from the Green & Whites Unfortunately, the game against Sedgley Park, scheduled for Sunday, was cancelled due to a frozen pitch. The game will be rearranged for a free weekend before the end of April. Nottingham also have a game against Coventry to rearrange before the end of the season. The EDF Energy National Trophy round 4 fixture, between Nottingham Rugby and Blaydon, will be played on Saturday 17th of January at Lady Bay, the training headquarters, kick off 2pm on Pitch 1. John Dainton, Matchday Operations manager, has worked fantastically hard and Nottingham Rugby are pleased to announce that the game will be played at Lady Bay, the home of Nottingham Boots Corsairs and the training headquarters for Nottingham Rugby. Director of Rugby, Glenn Delaney, is looking forward to returning to The Bay after a very successful pre season friendly against Northampton Saints in August. "I am really pleased that we have been able to get the game on at Lady Bay. Blaydon asked specifically for a Saturday fixture due to the working obligations of some of their squad and John Dainton has worked hard with the local authorities and the police to make sure it could go ahead. This has been a longer process than expected due to the fact that Nottingham Forest are playing at home and we haven't staged a

competitive match at The Bay before but all credit to John, he has made sure that everything has been checked and we are looking forward to working with the Nottingham Boots Corsairs and putting on a great afternoon of rugby. From a playing perspective Pitch 1 at Lady Bay is a great surface, one of the best outside of Meadow Lane and I know the players will feel comfortable playing at The Bay. We are focussed on having a good cup run and we want to make sure that everything is in place to make that possible. I hope that we will have a good crowd down at The Bay on the 17th to reward all the hard work that John and his team of volunteers have put it in." Tickets for the EDF Energy N a t i o n a l Tr o p h y fixture will be priced at £10 adult, £5 concession and £1 children.

Balls around the World! Punts Christmas is ruined by Wenger and Zat Spare a thought for one punter who placed a £10 accumulator on Boxing day and watched all the 13 of the 14 matches fall-in, only to be let down by Arsene Wenger and his team of imports after drawing with Villa 2-2. Zat Knight levelled the scores with seconds to spare on the clock, costing the fan a shocking £795,000! Ouch! Gerrard brightens-up jokers Christmas Steven Gerrard’s exploits after Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Newcastle has brought-out all the jokers surrounding the midfielder - here are some of the better ones: (1)“Rafa Benitez has launched a shock bid for Joey Barton. Apparently, he wants a like-for-like inside attacking midfielder should Gerrard get sent down”. (2) See pic. Also see studs-up.com for a great sketch! Ronaldo gets Corinthians worried One time world-cup winner and super star Ronaldo (the fat one), is starting to worry fans and coaches at Corinthians in Brazil after finishing last (out of 28) in their fitness tests! The big striker has been partying and eating for the past 5 years, so what’s the surprise.

Player Profile Name: Robert England Nickname: Bobby Team: Munich 79 / Trident F.C Age: 22 Job: Senior Chef de Partie Position: Striker Previous clubs: Basford Utd, S.H.R, The Mill Supports: Nottingham Forest Footballing hero: Marco Van Basten. He’s got to the all time greatest striker and probably will be for years to come. Biggest Influence: I’ve not had one yet, but I always like my Pro-plus and vodka red bulls before the game... Anyone would think I was Adriano! Best footballing moment: Scoring 7 past Beeston Utd last season after a all dayer / nighter on the Saturday night before with some of the lads! Funniest footballing moment: Knocking myself out by running into the goal post. Got to admit it was probably funnier for the lads watching than it was for me, but it could of been worse. Look what happened to Phil Babb. Ouch! Worst footballing moment: Doing my cruciate and medial ligaments playing recently. I have been told I will be out for a while, but I’ll be fitting fit in no time. Best trainer: It’s got to be stef at Trident always taking it seriously when others are messing about on and off the pitch. Worst trainer: Ryan "never here" Bingham, never turns up for training and it shows on the pitch as he's always out of breath the fat git, not really love you Ryan Worst haircut: Jason Sanders at Munich 79, when he had his daft pink mohican Team jokers: Got to be Jay Jay and myself, as we always like to start a sunday morning ripping into Mikey and Wayne Worst dressed players: Again got to be Jason Sanders, turning up in flower shorts flip flops his Chelsea top and daft hats and glasses from flares the night before. Biggest moaner: Mikey Asher - Always moaning on and off the field obviously not a ref's best friend Best player you have played with: Luke Pickard at Trident he's a strong central midfielder who wins everything in the middle of the park Toughest opponent: Mark Buckley with Blacks Head, an outstanding midfielder who can control a game Best team played against: Blacks Head. Really good set of lads, quality shows as they are still undefeated in the Combination league last season and this season
