It's hard to catch breath for Forest fans at the moment. In just eight days Forest have been crushed at home by a relegation rival; climbed out of the relegation zone; sacked a manager and appointed a new one; and found time to win twice on the road – routing the world's richest club as part of the bargain. New man Billy Davies was a keen spectator at the City of Manchester Stadium, and he could be forgiven for wondering how Forest have ended up in any trouble at all. It was a bright start for the home side, but City's frustration festered and multiplied as Forest consistently stubbed out their advances. By the time Shaun Wright-Phillips was subbed passes were going wildly astray and gloved fingers were wagging across the pitch. A Forest side as industrious as any I have ever seen flung themselves at the mercy of every shot, wrestled for every second ball and played with a vibrant pluck worthy of victory in any game. their heads pound, and the mass of bodies writhes and squirms from left to right. It is pandemonium. And why not? Nathan Tyson has his merits, but he doesn't do that.

But if his games are even half as entertaining as Pemberton's two have been, it won't be long before Davies is truly a red.

Match Ratings: Smith – 9 – several excellent saves and steady throughout. Chambers – 7.5 – undoubtedly his best display of the season; sensible, careful and solid.

Breckin – 7.5 – a fine game; simple and efficient. Morgan – 8 – assured, confident and as solid as a mountain.

Cohen – 10 – our best attacker, our best defender, our past passer and our best tackler. On the strength of this display, the Sheikh will be opening his cheque book for Chris Cohen and not Kaka. Anderson – 8 – caused endless mischief on the break. Perch – 7 – subbed early on through injury. McGugan – 9.5 – he was Premiership standard. Thornhill – 8 – after spending the early stages of the game in the wilderness he recovered to deliver the simple, composed passing that would seal victory. Tyson – 8.5 – a screamer of a goal, and he had the legs to keep City defenders on their toes throughout. Earnshaw – 8.5 – one of his best displays in a red shirt, despite being marked by the imperious Micah Richards. Subs: Wilson – 7.5, Davies – 7.5, Garner – 9.

The Cup Dream may be over but it has been a great experience for everyone connected with Eastwood Town Football Club. The league has always been the clubs priority so this cup run has come as a bonus. The big disappointment for the players was not being able to end their participation in front of a packed Stretford End, Kop End, or in the splendour of a Premiership ground, instead it was to end in less salubrious surroundings of the A-Line Stadium, Kettering.

Paul Cox decided to recall Shane Redmond after his enforced return to Nottingham Forest and replace Anton Foster with Paul Robinson, however it was always going to be a big ask for the tall centre half to replace arguably the best midfielder in the UniBond Premier. Eastwood kicked off playing towards their biggest away following in their history.

In the third minute, Geohaghon blasted well over the top from the edge of the box, and Westcarr headed over in the early exchanges. Eastwood's first shot came after Ian Holmes laid the ball off to Todd who volleyed well wide of the left-hand upright. Man of the match Mark Hume produced a well-timed tackle in a one-on-one with Kettering's leading goalscorer Gareth Seddon and Geohaghon had to be alert as Lindon Meikle found some space. Although Kettering were enjoying the majority of the play, the Badgers were comfortable in defence restricting the Poppies to long range shots. All that changed in the 24th minute when Kettering scored from their first shot on target. New loan signing Richard Graham beat Alistair Asher and sent a teasing cross to the far post which was met by ex-forest player Craig Westcarr on the half-volley which beat Redmond for power. Lee Harper was well positioned to take Asher's high cross and at the other end, Redmond got down well to push Seddon's low drive to safety.

Eastwood had a good penalty appeal waved away after Ross Gardner's cross struck Jaszczun on the arm. For a big defender Guy Branston hit the deck very quickly with the slightest challenge. Sadly for the Badgers fans, experienced referee Mr East brought every one, giving a string of fouls against the Eastwood players. Westcarr volleyed wide after a Jazsczun cross was only half cleared. The Badgers should have made more of a Branston slip, but Jazsczun cleared Gardner's cross-come-shot. Seddon thought he had scored Kettering's second from close range after a through ball from Graham, only to see that the official's flag had been raised for offside. Eastwood started the second half looking more energetic, however Kettering were still enjoying the majority of the possession. Marc Hume and defensive partner Simon Sturdy were still restricting Kettering to long range shots

whilst dominating everything that was in the air. Gareth Seddon tried his luck from distance but was wide of the mark.

The game was decided by two refereeing decisions around the hour mark. The referee may well have been the wrong side to witness Andre Boucaud arms wrapped around Paul Robinson as he dispossessed the Badger midfielder, but the linesman was well placed but didn't raise his flag. Boucaud fed Richard Graham who neatly played a ball on to Gareth Seddon. who placed the ball into the far bottom corner. Had the challenge been the other way around I suspect the flag & whistle would have been used rather quickly. Eastwood did manage to peg Kettering back to 2-1moments later. Richard Dunning swung in a deep free kick right into the danger area.

The Poppies defence couldn't clear the ball, and Paul Robinson was on hand to drive the ball into the turf and looping over Lee Harper in the Kettering goal. The goal certainly brought Eastwood back into the game. Just moments later, Richard Dunning fed Andy Todd in the box and as the midfielder set himself to shoot, he was sandwiched between two Kettering players, hitting the deck but with the Eastwood bench appealing for a penalty, the referee waved play on. Branston was again pole-axed by a feather as the Badgers threatened, leading to him having to leave the pitch for a second time. Paul Cox switched to 3-4-3 and started to pepper the Kettering defence with long balls looking for the height of Matt Rhead and Peter Knox. On the break Gareth Seddon had a late chance to put the tie to bed after Richard Dunning gifted the ball to Richard Graham, who played in Seddon. However Redmond, made a great save diving to his left to hold the ball with Westcarr lurking.

Gamesmanship again reared it's ugly head as Christie feigned a bullet through the head in an attempt to get a penalty, leading to an altercation with Hume, resulting in the referee booking both players. Eastwood continued to press and pressurise Kettering, and almost equalised in the dying seconds when Simon Sturdy got a touch to Shane Redmond's long free kick into the heart of the Kettering box, the ball striking the right hand post and bouncing to safety.

The final chance for the Badgers to rescue the game came when Dunning lifted the ball deep into the Kettering penalty area. Branston managed to get his head to the ball but Harper grasped it before it crossed the line denying the Badgers a perverse sense of justice for all the timewasting, correction-Gamesmanship. So the cup run is over for another year, and the way the Kettering fans celebrated was indicative to the eventual winners of the cup. For all their supporters bravado on the forums, it really was their cupfinal. The Eastwood management were disappointed with the way the lads played, Kettering certainly weren't as good as Wycombe or Wrexham, but the players have been magnificent, over the course of the nine cup games. History has been made and the memories of the two Wrexham games, the Wycombe and Harrogate away game will live long for those that were there.

F.C Samba missed the chance to stay in touch at the top as they were beaten at Ashland Rovers by a goal from Ian Allsop. Nathan Francis scored twice for Beacon along with strikes from Red Wilmot, Michael Murphy and Kevin Greaves in their convincing 5-1 win at Vernon Villa.

Ashland Rover Reserves continue to power on in the first division this week they were far too strong for second placed Nuthall running out 7-2 winners Steven Hutchinson (3), Ryan Smith (2), Chris Bailey, Adrian Beeson and Dave Smith all helping them selves to goals, Bramley and Taylor adding a little respectability to the score line for Nuthall. Calverton failed to take the opportunity to jump over Nuthall into second spot as they lost heavily going down 5-3 at A.F.C. Bridgford Daniel Belcher helping him self to hat trick along with strikes from Denovellis and Hobbs Horton Stevens and Glover hitting the reply. It was a bad day all round for the three teams trying to catch Ashland as fourth placed East Valley United also went down away from home at Ruddington Village Jordan Halls and Kieran Bradshaw both scoring twice in the 4-2 win Mathews and Bosworths efforts being in vein. Vernon Villa Reserves showed heir first team how its done with a resounding 7-2 win at Kimberley Miners Welfare Old Boys the goals coming from Alan Ketton (2), Liam Helmsley (2), Bailey, Beeson and Smith, Mark Jordan hitting both the home teams goals. Premium had a good win away at Boots Athletic A Paul Wright and Gary Bosworth scoring with Paul Williams pulling one back for Boots.

Greygoose put their poor pre Christmas form behind them as they started the New Year with a fine 2-1 win away at Kirton Brickworks with Rick Handbury and Martin Clothier scoring, Craig Taylor replying.

Coopers Arms stretched their lead at the top of the second division to four as they see off Basford United A and closest rivals Kashmir crashed to a 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Burton Joyce. Liam Evans (2), Armitage, Lawson, Morgan and Bartram saw the league leaders home in their 6-3 win over Basford who had Sutcliffe, Croft and Swinscoe on the score sheet. Kashmir were seen off by goals from Troy Smith (2), Harris, Truman and Buckle Majeed pulling one back. Nottingham Sikh Lions were too strong for Ali Islam as they ran out comfortable 4-0 winners the goals coming from Sandip Leihal, Wasim and Mahal.

Netherfield Albion Reserves ran in five goals at home to struggling Three Crowns Ryan Fowler (2), Thompson and Plummer all scoring Bugg with a consolation goal for the visitors. Clifton United and Basford had to be content with a share of the spoils as they played out a 2-2 draw Hickling nad Evans scoring for Clifton with Bloom and Skerrit replying.

Top of the third division Pegasus were on the end of a surprise 4-1 beating at Bingham Town who had Brent Wilkinson (2), Steven Perry and Matt Sentence scoring their goals, Clutterbuc pulling one back for the league leaders. Second placed Durham Ox Wellow took advantage of the Pegasus defeat with a 3-1 win over Nottinghamshire IV Liam Black (2) and James Vernon helping the Ox to cut the gap at the top to a single point. Real kept the challenge for top spot going with a 4-2 win over Pegasus Reserves Fariq Fasil (2), Young and Marcell all scoring with Reid and Benjamin replying. Gedling Town were the days top scorers as they smashed in eight at basement boys Harvey Hadden Patrick Maughan the pick of the scorers hitting four along with strikes from Miller, Francis, McLean and Lawler. Ian Gibbons scored twice for Clifton United Reserves as they took all the points at Sherwood Casuals Humphries adding the third with Gilby pulling one back. Keiran McLarty scored twice along with strikes from Flynn Harrison and Bowen for Netherfield Boys as the saw off Nott's Metropolis Reserves 5-3 Platt, Thacker and Okon scoring for the home team.

However they were suddenly 2 – 1 down and then had to rely on a last gasp equaliser from Gavin Carr to gain a share of the points. FC05 retain in third spot following their 2 – 1 defeat of Wollaton III who continue to prop up the table. Nick Westerman provided 'Fivers' with a half-time lead and then made certain of the points after Wollaton had equalised. Monty Hind Old Boys did not deserve their 5 – 2 defeat but paid the price of being three goals adrift by half-time through poor defending against Old Elizabethans who took their chances through Alex McLean, Tony Shaw and a Paul Johnson 'tap-in'. Michael Marriott and Stefan Bullivant each pulled a goal back before Liam Goward and and a disputed 'Gaz' Hopley penalty restored the goal difference. Nottinghamshire netted four goals without reply from TVFC. Cambridge Knights recovered from their previous game's 15 – 0 defeat by sharing two goals with Coronation with Rob Wigmore on target for Coronation. Hickling were hit by a Jordan Bailey hat-trick and a goal from Anthony Tsiolas without being able to find a reply to Sherwood Colliery's four goals. Town Mill went down 5 – 2 to Chilwell Vipers with Charlie Marsh, Phil Mountain, Dan Robinson and a Justin Day double completing the tally. M.I.S United seem to be in a false position in division Three after they won 3-2 at home to second placed the Mill to climb into mid table courtesy of Aiden Talmey, Adam Rowley and Scott Ratcliffe but their lack of games at the midway point of the season could prove to be their nemesis in the fight for promotion. Bingham Town Reserves pulled off a great win at high flyers Fc Samba who slipped a place after going down 5-2 at home to their struggling opposition. Jamie Perry top scored with a brace for the visitors with John White, Liam Warner and Steve Perry also scoring to give Bingham a moral boosting win. Loz Cox helped himself to 4 goals as La Toque won 6-0 at AFC Hucknall reserves with Gavin Webb and Daniel Brookes also on target. Whilst Ben Townsend and Westleigh Gilliott both got on the score sheet as the Taverners beat Southbank 2 nil away.

Report by Jeff Johnson NOTTS SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE - CLUMBER DESTROY BARFLY’S CUP HOPES! The last non-Premier Division side fell at the Quarter Final stage of the Premier Section KO Cup. Nottm Rangers trailed at half-time to a hat trick from Clifton Villa's Justin Jenkins and one each from Jermaine Hollies and Curtis Jackson but the Second Division outfit showed stronger resolve in the second period, reducing the arrears through efforts from Dan Douglas and Simon Taylor before Carl Spencer registered Villa's sixth.

Holders Scots Grey had man of the match, Jamie Moore scoring two, with Will Heath and Damian Rennicks also on the scoresheet as they overcame Redhill 4-1, as Dave Wagner replied. Plough Barfly's entertained Clumber but found the visitors on top form as they rattled in six goals without reply, courtesy of two each for Wes Burton and Carl Westcarr and one-a-piece from Richard Liburd and Robert Faulkener.

In the only Premier Division game, newcomers Trentside are proving their promotion was no fluke by taking second with a 5-1 victory at Nuthall. They also demonstrated their resolve, by overcoming an early opening goal from the host's Leon Roberts before prolific striker, Nathan Francis equalized midway through the half, before Nick Murphy ended a mazy forty yard run with the goal of the game. The second half started with Mick Hart registering with a cross shot, following a superb assist from the mercurial man of the match; Rory Francis followed by namesake Nathan completing his hat trick.

There was a change at the top of Division One, as leaders Trowsers were replaced by Chesterfield Arms following a 3-1 success by the latter.

Ross McAughey, Carl Wison and Jamie Moore scored for the homeside and Aaron Baddley responded.

Former leaders, Rolls Royce Leisure failed to take full advantage by sharing two goals with BTSC, as Andy Start netted for Leisure and Joshua Cranney replied. Stratford Haven also shared the spoils with FC Clobber, as Steve Farrell registered for the former and Matt Rick for the visitors. Goals from Liam Hatfield, Ashley Evans and Carl Matthews ensured that George Street maintained their challenge with a 3-2 defeat of Old Colonial, for whom Richard Saunders scored twice.

As at the top of Division One, there was a similar change at the head of Division Two, as former leaders Bulwell Rangers were replaced by Sims Metal following the latter's 3-1 home success. The hosts had Norman Wright, Gareth White and Ashley Barrett on the score sheet, with Scott Litchfield scoring for Rangers. Central Midlands - games played 3rd January Kimberley Town welcomed in the New Year with their first win of the season, the Buckingham Insurance Supreme Division bottom club, won 3-2 at 'The Stag' Ground against Lincolnshire visitors, Nettleham.

George Easom was the Kimberley 'star' getting the winner with nine minutes remaining; it was Easom's second goal of the game, Clarence Mandinod scoring the other Kimberley goal. Darren Elding and Chris Funnell scored for Nettleham. Kimberley remain rooted at the bottom of the table, two points adrift of Harrowby United, but 'The Stags' have four games in hand. Harworth Colliery Institute regained the leadership of the division, despite being behind twice behind, the North Nottinghamshire club hit back to record a 4-2 victory. Lee Danish, Tom Cook and two goals by 'ace' striker Ryan Paczkowski the Harworth scorers. Kirk Frost netted both the Hatfield goals. Previous leaders Calverton Miners Welfare had to be content with a 2-2 draw at Southwell City. In a tense and exciting game Danny Prance scored the equaliser for the home team, after Craig Boulton had netted twice for Calverton. Ben Porter was the other Southwell marksman. Third placed Sutton Town AFC and Ollerton Town, who are fourth, also shared the points at “The Fieldings”. It looked as if a Ricky Chambers goal would be good enough to take all three points for the visitors but with a minute left Steve Bayliss levelled for the home team. Forest Town moved up to fifth place, a first half goal converted by Craig Jackson, ensured the points for the Mansfield area club against visitors, Pinxton. Radcliffe Olympic, drop to sixth, their match at Harrowby United was called off due to a frozen pitch. Newark Town continue to impress, they got their New Year under way, with a cracking 5-0 home win over Yorkshire Main. Simon Ellison hit a brace, brother Mark Ellison also got on the score sheet, Lewis Cree and Sam Wilford adding the other goals. A welcome point for Rolls Royce Leisure, a goal down at half time, at home to Kinsley Boys, who scored through Lee Radford. Rolls hit back in the second half and fully deserved the equaliser, scored by Wayne Bennett, in the 79th minute. Westella and Willerby continue to hold on to the leadership of the Black Dragon Premier Division, the East Riding club won 2-0 at home against Kirkby Town, both goals where scored in the first half by Dan Boneham. Second placed Louth Town, where back in league action for the first time in a month, and they looked a little rusty against visitors to Park Avenue, Thoresby Colliery Welfare. After a goalless first half, Thoresby took the lead immediately after half time through Danny Ashleigh, but normal service was resumed by the home team, who retained their 100% record, going on to win 3-1 with goals by Jordan Walden, Mark Allen and Jamie Rowbotham. Radcliffe Olympic Reserves who are fourth, also won well at home, both Paul Durham and Ben Smith scored twice in their 5-2 success against Clipstone Welfare Reserves. Both teams started brightly with chances being created in both penalty areas. Tom Cahill and Jon Douglas all had chances and Douglas actually put the ball in the back of the net only for the assistant referee ruled it out for offside. At the other end Vill Powell was proving to be a handful and Chris Adamson was required to make a number of excellent saves to keep the Robins in the game.

After the interval Ilkeston pressed Sheffield back into their own half and took the lead after 48 minutes when Sam Duncum's shot was blocked by Cahill. Cahill recovered quickly, turned and crashed the ball in to the net from six yards out.

The visitors responded well and the

impressive Powell again caused havoc and one shot rebounded off the post and Ilkeston managed to scrambled the ball away. On 73 minutes the home sides nerves were calmed when Duncum broke again down the left and made an intelligent pass to Ben Pringle who fired the ball home from ten yards out. Arnold Town 1 Eccleshill United 0 Arnold moved up to third in the table courtesy of a narrow victory over the club rooted to the bottom of the table in a 'home' game played at Sandy Lane in Worksop. Arnold failed to get into their stride against a side who had conceded a staggering 87 goals in their previous 19 league games. The key moment came with ten minutes remaining – Arnold won a disputed corner – Brookes floated the corner to the far post where Carruthers headed home his seventh goal in his last four games. To their credit the visitors performed well above their league position creating a number of goal scoring opportunities. Arnold were fortunate that Eccleshill's finishing did not match their approach play with Gorman and Dibbs both failing to hit the target. Arnolds goal attempts were rare – with Halligen untested until Freestone's 57th minute shot. The Eagles had chances to score with Mitchell firing over at the far post and Freestone heading wide. Manager Andy Muldoon was thankful to pick up three points in a game in which his side were well below par.

DIVISION 1 Only one first division match survived this week as three fixtures were postponed due to illness and injury.

Stadium Leisure climbed out of the relegation zone and into the play-off places with a terrific win against Arnold Civil Defence “B”.

The victory was all the more impressive because Stadium had to concede two frames away from home as they were a player short.

At Stadium, Alan Cunningham was unlucky to come up against an on-fire Barry Stark. Cunningham broke off in the traditional manner leaving white in baulk only for Stark to pot a terrific red from which he proceeded to make a 28 break. Luckily for Stark, Cunningham was forced to play his next shot from the jaws of the yellow pocket. He caught the pack far too thick leaving Stark in the balls and he than made a superb 72 break for a 100-0 victory.

Steve Butler fought out a close frame with Andy Nichols. Butler was 28 points in front with the colours remaining and Nichols potted the yellow, green and brown but still needed one snooker.

Butler fluked a snooker on the blue which Nichols failed to escape from and Butler ran out a 67-31 winner. Pete Gormley beat Pete Ellins 80-22 to put Stadium 3-0 up going into the pairs.

Arnold pair to took an early 31-8 lead with the help of a good 16 break from Cunningham. Stark fought back though with a good run of 40 and this spurred the Stadium pair on to a 57-31 win and a 4-0 home win for Stadium.

At Arnold, with Stadium a player short, Danny Di Folco or Bob Walker had to win one of their singles frames to seal an important victory for Stadium. Bob Walker did the business as he beat Sean Kelly with the help of a couple of flukes in the middle bags. Kirk Wesselby simply could not get into his frame against Danny Di Folco and the Stadium player ran out an easy winner to secure a 6-2 match victory for a delighted Stadium team.

DIVISION 2 Sherwood Social Club showed their class as they whitewashed City Hospital Leisure Centre 8-0.

At City Hospital, Gareth Evans beat Rob Wallace 67-39, Paul Bell beat Steve Tring 61-25, Kev Smith beat Russ Kirk 50-22 and Les Smith beat Des Oldham 49-40.

At Sherwood, Lee Crombie beat Lee Archer 49-37, Brendan Murtagh beat Dennis Peet 60-28, Ross Scarborough beat Alan Taylor 46-14 and Andy Fitton beat Barry Chadwick 50-10.

KIMBERLEY TOWN FC ANNOUNCEMENTS CRICKET UMPIRE & SCORER COURSES Kimberley Town FC have appointed Steve Shelton as a Life Vice President from January 1st 2009. Steve originally came to the club as a young goal keeper and played for both the 1st team and the reserves until he hung his gloves up. After which he became a loyal supporter before joining the committee some 11 years ago. Seven years ago the club changed hands however whilst others left Steve stayed and offered his services which was readily accepted and is another of footballs unsung heroes. Steve is married lives locally and works at the bakery and still offers words of advice to the young keepers in the club.

The club is looking to increase there numbers by running a Under 14/15/16 team (s) but all age groups considered for boys next season and would like to hear from any interested parties. Our aim is to develop youngsters who will form the backbones of our club in years to come. At present we would like to hear from any interested managers and or players. The club hopes to play in The FA Youth Cup next season and years to come.

The Nottinghamshire Cricket Board Branch of the ECB Association of Cricket Officials will be holding the annual Umpire's and Scorer's Courses in the Radcliffe Road Stand at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground starting in January 2009.

The Umpire's Course is on Monday evenings commencing 12th January at 7.30 pm until approximately 9.30pm for a period of 10 weeks.

The Scorer's Course is on Sunday mornings commencing 18th January at 10 am until 12 noon for a period of 6 weeks.

John Dainton, Matchday Operations manager, has worked fantastically hard and Nottingham Rugby are pleased to announce that the game will be played at Lady Bay, the home of Nottingham Boots Corsairs and the training headquarters for Nottingham Rugby. Director of Rugby, Glenn Delaney, is looking forward to returning to The Bay after a very successful pre season friendly against Northampton Saints in August. "I am really pleased that we have been able to get the game on at Lady Bay. Blaydon asked specifically for a Saturday fixture due to the working obligations of some of their squad and John Dainton has worked hard with the local authorities and the police to make sure it could go ahead. This has been a longer process than expected due to the fact that Nottingham Forest are playing at home and we haven't staged a

competitive match at The Bay before but all credit to John, he has made sure that everything has been checked and we are looking forward to working with the Nottingham Boots Corsairs and putting on a great afternoon of rugby.

From a playing perspective Pitch 1 at Lady Bay is a great surface, one of the best outside of Meadow Lane and I know the players will feel comfortable playing at The Bay. We are focussed on having a good cup run and we want to make sure that everything is in place to make that possible. I hope that we will have a good crowd down at The Bay on the 17th to reward all the hard work that John and his team of volunteers have put it in."
