Life after Calderwood continues to be beautifully simple for Nottingham Forest. As the axed manager gave a dreary radio commentary on Preston's clash with Burnley, the side he left behind was preparing for yet another win. It's now four wins consecutive victories for Forest who are finally beginning to match performances with points. Billy Davies was warmly received by the Forest crowd ahead of his first home game in charge, and by the end of a wonderful afternoon even his harshest critics can't have been grumbling too loudly. On Boxing Day, smarting from a rout by the division's bottom club, who could have predicted that by mid-January we would be three points clear of relegation – above Derby? Forest started the game cautiously but solidly, and the workmanlike opening was rewarded on 24 minutes when Rob Earnshaw flicked in Lewis McGugan's free kick. McGugan himself almost netted a few minutes later as his dipping free kick from the edge of the box came desperately close. It was another bitterly cold

Notts County came within a matter of minutes of making it two wins from two in 2009 this afternoon, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw at second-placed Brentford. The game burst into life as early as the eight minute when Brentford striker Nathan Elder was sent off for the use on an elbow on Mike Edwards, and the Bees' misery was doubled moments later when Delroy Facey crashed Notts ahead at Griffin Park.

Jamie Forrester and Myles Weston both came close to extending the lead before the break - while Myles Weston and Sean Canham came close in the second half. It looked as if Facey's goal was enough to hand Notts back-to-back wins for the second time this season - but in the first minute of injury time Brentford equalised through Phillips's header.

Ian McParland opted to make just one change from the side that defeated Exeter 2-1 last Saturday - and that was enforced due to the hamstring injury Gavin Strachan sustained in that game. His spot went to John Thompson who was available again after suspension. There was also a welcome return to first-team action for Adam Tann, who was on the bench after three months out with a knee ligament injury sustained back in October. Donning their change strip of claret and blue Notts got the game underway attacking from left to right and began encouragingly by quickly taking the game to the secondplaced Bees and winning an early corner. The Bees were reduced to ten men after just eight minutes of the game when striker Nathan Elder saw red for deliberately using his elbow when jumping for a header. He caught Captain Mike Edwards in the face, and Referee Mr Attwell was quick to show the red card to the disgust of the home crowd.

Edwards was booed every time he touched the ball afterwards, with the home contingent fuming at the decision. Their mood wasn't helped when, after a Matt Hamshaw volley whistled just wide on ten minutes, Notts took the lead after just twelve minutes. A fine ball by Johnson picked out Hamshaw on the right and his mazy run resulted in Bennett blocking his effort, but the ball fell kindly to Facey eight yards out and he smashed the ball superbly across Hamer and into the far corner. The home fans responded by raising their voices and backing their side, as their Bees players were rocking from those two early setbacks. Every decision was being contested venomously by the Griffin Park crowd, and a Marvin Williams volley from all of thirty yards flew just wide as Brentford looked to draw themselves back on level terms.

Match ratings: Smith – 6 – as ever, struggled more when not under any real pressure. A hesitant performance. Chambers – 5.5 – a solid enough first half, but a fairly poor second. Morgan – 8 – solid as a buffalo throughout.

Breckin – 7 – didn't appear to have too many problems this afternoon; his lack of pace is a problem, but he looks more settled this season than he did in the division below. Wilson – 6.5 – fairly solid, I barely remember his contribution – which I see as a very good thing. Anderson – 7 – his pace was vital on the break in the second half, but again his 'end product' let him down. McGugan – 7 – a reasonably quiet game until the final 15 minutes when he set about savaging our visitors for the space they were leaving in the middle.

Perch – 7 – had a reasonable game; breaking up play and covering ground ahead of the defence. Cohen – 7 – the usual Cohen characteristics of endless hard work and consistency. Tyson – 7.5 – caused a lot of trouble, probably should have finished the game with a goal.

Earnshaw – 7.5 – work rate has doubled since Davies arrived, and it is paying off. Our form and his goals are no coincidence. Report by Alex Campbell

Two Myles Weston runs, clearly with his confidence sky high, produced two shots from long range which were off target as Notts continued to enjoy their football. A John Thompson strike inside the box was blocked as Notts sought to extend their lead just after the half-hour, but by that stage Brentford had enjoyed a spell of pressure but had been unable to severely test the Magpies backline.

Jamie Forrester almost made it 2-0 soon afterwards, but after rounding Hamer he took some time to get a shot away, but with two players back on the goal-line he dragged the ball into the side netting. Every decision continued to rile the home fans, and Wood was lucky not to follow Elder into the changing room for an early shower before the break after raising his arm at Picken - but he instead only saw yellow. It would be fair to say the game was a tasty one with plenty of commitment and endeavour from both sides, making it a really eye-catching game from start to finish. At the break goalscorer Facey was replaced seemingly with an injury - by Sean Canham who slotted in alongside Forrester in attack. The start to the second half was also delayed due to a change of Linesman, with kickoff for the second period timed at 16:12. Brentford adopted a direct style of play at the beginning of the second half by looking to get the ball forward as quickly as possible, meaning plenty of work from the Notts backline although again nothing to test Kevin Pilkington. Myles Weston dragged an effort wide after the hour, with the second half lacking in incident compared to the first-half. Weston was at the heart of Notts' best moves and his cross soon afterwards was glanced goalwards by Canham but turned over by Hamer for a corner. Notts were passing the ball superbly well at times and frustrating Brentford, who at times seemed to be frustrating themselves by wasting key opportunites to work Notts harder at set-pieces. The best example of this was when Dickson curled a free-kick over from bang on the edge of the box. Sub David Hunt had a volley deflected into Pilkington's arms ten minutes from time for his first real save of the game. Notts made their second change six minutes from time in the engine room with Nowland being replaced by Nat Wedderburn.

Nowland again put in a superb shift in midfield, running the game for long spells with neat and effective passes.

Canham wasted a chance in the final minute to wrap up the game after taking a heavy touch when clear on goal which allowed Hamer to scamper off his line and dive on the ball at the striker's feet. Notts were made to rue that miss when defender Phillips flicked home a cross with his head from the right in injury-time after coming forward from the back.

Pilkington came for the ball and couldn't claim it, meaning Phillips faint touch was enough to guide the ball home. It sparked wild celebrations at Griffin Park, while Notts players lay on the floor wondering how the game had slipped away from them.

Clifton 1-0 Wollaton Res were worthy winners in the only other senior division game, thrashing Notts Police 5-0. Karl Mitchell scored two of the goals and Bee, Carver and 2-3 Awsworth Villa Res Lonsdale netted one each to see Clifton secure their mid-table position.

Ashland Rovers made light work of basement team Gedling Southbank A running in six unanswered goals Mark Hammond (2), Fleet, Priestly, Tansley and Alsopp all helping them selves to the goals. Gareth Clarkson ran in a hat trick for Arnold Longbow as they took all the points at home against Headstocks running out 5-3 victors Etchils and Saunders adding the others with Richard Wallace (2) and Brown replying. Troy Dunston and Jamie Pitt scored the goals that secured all the points at Beacon for Vernon Villa to move them away from danger at the foot of the table.

With the Ashland Rovers Ruddington Village game falling fowl of the weather Nuthall closed the gap at the top of the first division to five points with a 3-1 win over Greygoose Tom Knowles (2) and Daniel Bramley hitting the goals Carl Wilson did pull one back. Calverton Miners Welfare kept in touch at the top as they took the points at Boots thanks to goals from Kirk Stevens and Jamie Davey Paul Williams pulling one back. Ashley Evans scored twice for East Valley United as they proved to be too strong for Premium Josh Matthews and Kane Matthews extending the lead as East Valley ran out 5-1 winners. Tom Kemp scored twice for Vernon Villa Reserves at A.F.C. Bridgford but it was in vain as they narrowly lost out 4-3 Belcher, Burton, Smith and Blake ensuring the points for the home team Bailey added a third for Villa. Nottingham Sikh Lions also managed to hit the net five times as they saw off Arnold Town A 5-3 the goals coming from Imran Shareef (2), Steve Barret, Wasim and Ansar Khan with Tom Grady scoring all three of the Arnold goals. Ali Islam and Basford played out a 2-2 draw as did the Basford United A and Nott's Metropolis.

Durham Ox Wellow go back to the top of the third division after seeing off previous incumbents Pegasus 3-0 Michael Ingram, Liam Black and Nick Staff hitting the al important goals. Real United had a day to remember as they ran in no less than ten goals at home against Nott's Metropolis Reserves Marcel Baz being the pick of the scorers netting five times, Coulman, Fazil, Payne, Spriggs and Young adding the rest. A last minute goal from Brent Wilkinson saw Bingham Town take the points at to Clifton United Reserves Wilkinson scoring both the goals with Ian Gibbons hitting the response. A goal from Matt Ely was enough to ensure Gedling Town took all the points at home to Nottinghamshire fourths. Perry Atherton scored twice for Sherwood Casuals as they went down 4-2 at home to Premium Reserves Henson, Robinson, Coates and Shelton al scoring.

Harvey Hadden picked up a much needed point at home to Netherfield Boys Dickenson, Ndema and Lanes all scoring for the home team with Harber, McCorty and Ramsey cancelling them out.

COMBINATION - GOALS GALORE FOR TOP CLUBS The Premier division was the place to be on Sunday for goals as the top 4 sides all won convincingly except for Second Placed Calverton Miners Welfare who won at struggling Bingham Town by 2 goals to one courtesy of Ryan Enright and Dominic Clarke. Scott Buckbury replied for Bingham whilst leaders Gedling United and Calverton's hosts next week had little trouble in claiming all three points after Kev Walker 3, Lorran Young 2, Mark Nixon, Jason Rimmell and Ryan Johnson all found the target in an 8-0 win at Sporting Wheelbarrow. James Needham helped himself to 6 goals as Greyfriars also scored 8 but they could not keep a clean sheet as Luke Stephenson popped up to score for their visitors Bear FC. Pat Walsh and Barry Keane also scored for Greyfriars whilst Kimberley Miners Welfare kept their hopes for honours alive with a 9-2 win at Gremio. Chris Fisher top score with hat trick for the visitors with Matthew Walker 2, Paul Morrell, Karl Beecham, Ryan Doughty and Jake Fisher also finding the target. Scott Clarke replied with both goals for Gremio. With A1 Glazing's game being cancelled due to an unfit pitch AFC Bridgford used it to their full advantage and used their game in hand to go top of Division One by inflicting an emphatic 8 goal salvo at Oakdale. Scott Kirk led the scoring with 3 goals and he was ably assisted in the rout by Dan Casey 2, Adam New, Ben Weston and Jonathon Martin. FC Bedstead put a dent in Beechdale Villa's title aspirations by inflicting a 3-1 defeat on their hosts. Rob Lindsay, Jamie Applegate and Philip Gouldby did the damage for Bedstead with Martin Cassidy replying. D.T.D employed a new manager this week and it paid dividends right from the off as they won for the first time since mid November but they had to twice come from behind to achieve their victory. Connor Brown opened the scoring for visitors Springfield before Dave Cotterill pegged them back before the break. After the restart Springfield re-took the lead through Clifford Knowles only to see it slip for a second time by Will Hickling. DTD then bagged the winner as David Hallam scored direct from a corner.

Beeston United won 3-2 at Bestwood MW Reserves thanks to Jamie Loughton 2 and Adam Morris. Whilst CNC kept the pressure up on the top 2 with a 4 nil win against AFC Hucknall through A Murphy, M Murphy, M Jones and A Robinson. Hamburg 80 took a 5th minute lead through Darryl Clayton but they could not reproduce last weeks form and as a result they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Basford Rangers. Rangers replied to their early set back on the half hour mark through Nathan Robinson but then had to wait until the 78th to dent Hamburg's spirit when Adam Henson was on hand to make it 2-1. Ian Leebetter then sealed the win for the visitors by converting a last minute penalty. Rise Park beat Munich 79 by the same score line thanks to a Thomas Rudd double either side of a Michael Bannister strike with Ryan Bingham bagging Munich's consolation. Wagon & Horses fell behind to a Ray eddyshaw strike in the tenth minute but bounced back through Andrew Flint and Bernard Langton to claim all three points at home to N.C.H. Whilst Medz Reds went to the top of div 2 after winning by the odd goal in 9 at Fc St George thanks to Lee Eley 2, Gareth Thompson, Sean Brown and Michael Grinion. Terry Redfern hit back with all 4 goals St George. Sporting Inkfish can count them selves unlucky as the division three table was for a short while at least, almost turned on its head by scoring 4 times at second placed The Close. Although Peter Lester and Anthony Morton both struck a brace apiece for the visitors their defence could not hold out and the strugglers eventually slipped to a 6-4 defeat as Michael Rankin 3, Andrew Barrett 2 and David Cousins ensured the points went to the home side. The Mill kept up the pressure on The close by winning 4-0 at home to close rivals FC Samba thanks to Aaron Husyin 2, Aeron Porter and Joe Luciw. K Wheat converted a 55th minute left wing cross to put his side 0-1 up at the Taverners only to see it slip some 5 minutes later when Dale Gilliott started a move on the left, played a one two with Wez Gilliott before going on to beat 2 players and lash home as the mid table clash between Taverners and P.M.R ended in a 1 all draw. M.I.S United's march up the table continued as they pipped Arnold Victory to a 3-2 win despite falling behind to a 20 yard screamer in the 15th minute

Report by Jeff Johnson EMPAL - COUNTY CUP SUCCESSES FOR EMPAL CLUBS IN JUNIOR & COUNTY CUPS Junior Cup Fc Grey Mare had a fine 4-2 win over Countryman to go through to the quarter finals. Luke Smith and Stuart Pack put Olympico into a 2-1 half time lead which was soon wiped out by Countryman early in the second half. Despite dominating play Olympico had to wait for two late goals by Chris McLaughlin and Reece Beard to win the tie in normal time.

Radcliffe Olympic Sunday pulled off a hard fought win over the unbeaten Combination outfit Bestwood Reunited. Having already notched over a hundred league goals in Combination Division Three Reunited were not out of their comfort zone and Radcliffe just managed to squeeze home in a seven goal thriller.

In form Fanzines United enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 win over Newcastle Arms with Heithus, Brown, Bradley and Connor the scorers.

Arnold Cross Keys “enjoyed” all the classic County cup experiences against a Mansfield side Empal clubs have known to love and savior over the years. Namely multiple bookings, disallowed goals, ignored penalty claims and yes a late penalty for the home side which clinches a 5-4 defeat after extra time to Paragon Sports Cars! Keys should have sewn the match up in ninety minutes but hiting the bar three times generally says it's not your day! Three –Three after ninety minutes enabled Paragon to regroup and clinch the tie with the late aforementioned “soft” penalty. Wollaton Pirates sneaked through with

Minor Cup GMB cruised home against Sutton on Trent 4-1 with Shannon -2, Dawkins and Ollie Gee putting their side into the quarters. All Empal tie saw Beeston Athletic beat Caythorpe 3-2.Warren Sawford and Nathan Hodges gave Athletic a two goal lead but as they are prone to throwing leads away it was no surprise as Caythorpe clawed their way back into the tie despite skipper Jamie Austins third and deciding goal.

Divison One Brinsthorpe Rangers return to the summit of the Empal Leagues after a close 1-0 win over Linford Nelson. With only five minutes left Danile Brooks popped up to snatch all three points for his side. Total Reclaims Demolition keep on climbing even after 2-2 with West Bridgford Albion, Brazilian favourite Danni two for the Albion as Demolition snatched a point with literally the last kick of the match five minuted into overtime!

It's congratulations to Freeman & Mitchell who were the last Empal side to record a win this season as they beat Nottingham Medics 5-1 at a wind swept Grove Farm! Top score of the division saw Nottingham Law School sweep Notts Athletc aside 6-1 with a brace for Dace and Chance supported by O'Donaghue and Opaye-Tetleh.

Divison Two Top of the table clash saw leaders Wheelhouse slump to 7-2 defeat by rivals Fox & Crown. Sub Daniel Goldsmith came on to claim a brace to put his side critcally ahead of Wheelhouse. Crown move up to third on goal difference from Arnold Cross Keys. Trent Allstars stay in contention with the leaders at the top of Division Two after 6-2 win over a struggling Burton Joyce B side. Chris Lines, Alex Bates with two and Luke Shaw with a classy hat trick. In form Butler Benfica blew Inn The Bank away with a fine all round team performance to win 4-1 at a marshy Carlton le Willows. Rich Butterworth scrambled home the first from a corner which was never cleared after twenty minutes. More Butler and less Benfica then enjoyed a fine twenty five minute period of controlled passing and moving football which clearly surprised Bank.

The goal of the game was converted by Errol Gibbs at the end of a lengthy passing movement from one end of the pitch to the other to make it 2-0 at half time. Despite a rallying team talk Bank contrived to concede a third barely ninety seconds into the second half as Gary Smith converted from close range as a free kick was only partially cleared. To add insult to injury Smith claimed his second as his left foot corner obligingly curled into the far corner unopposed by the Bank defenders! To their credit after several substitutions Bank created good chances with Ben Brown converting just the one to make it a final score of 4-1 to Butler.

Division Three Boots Wednesday climb a place in Division Three after 3-1 win over Brooks Villa. Villa took one goal half time lead through Remze but surrendered in the second half to goals from Taylor, Sweetman and Scothern. Plumtree beat Trent Vale 2-1 with Paul Austin and Austin Carruthers.

Division Four St Anns maintain their seven point lead at the top after 8-1 win over bottom side Attsu. Wollaton Pirates Reserves came out ahead in the five goal thriller against Real Bulwell winning 3-2.Luke Burton slotted home from six yards as Ben Greenhalgh's impressive drive was only parried to his feet. A defensive horror resembling one of Paul Smiths less impressive days for Forest enabled Burton to claim his second. A mark Jordan own goal and Dave Robinson's strike made it 2-2. Hero for Pirates was keeper Alex Wooley who saved a twice taken penalty to prevent Bulwell taking the lead. With minutes to go Jordan redeemed his own goal by clinching the points.At the bottom Clifton Dynamo Reserves beat Toton Athletic 4-1.

Report by Adrian Ford NOTTS SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE - ARNOLD DEFEAT NOTTS ALUMNI TO MOVE INTO THE QUARTERS! The last Notts FA Sunday Senior Trophy ended with perennial finalists; Scots Grey taking the remaining semi-final place and a tie at close rivals Clifton Villa. Rolls Royce Leisure put up a fine resistance and turned round at 0-0. However, Scots' superior approach work eventually told and second half substitute Will Heath struck twice along with efforts from Alan Jefferies and Jamie Moore, with Nick Davis grabbing a well earned consolation.

It was also the last quarter final tie in the domestic competition, where two goals from Kieron Coates saw Arnold through to the semi final with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Alumni.

In the Premier Division, Redhill moved into third place with a 4-2 success at Plough Barfly's, whilst youth had its day at Radford, where, with the game seemingly drifting into a goalless draw against Nuthall, Park Rangers introduced 17 year old James Starbuck for his debut and he repaid in style with two goals in the final twenty minutes without response.

Two goals from Eddie Draper and one from Carl Wilson took Chesterfield Arms to the head of Division One and Carlton Catholic had Rick Sheavills to thank, as his two goals lifted them off the bottom with a 2-1 win over BTSC, for whom Curtis Jackson was on target.

With the games involving the top two in Division Two, former leaders; Bulwell Rangers failed to take advantage, as Chris Galloway scored twice supported by efforts from Ben Smedley, Danny Murphy and Darren Smith in Cotgrave PFC's 5-2 victory. Darren Spencer and Scott Litchfield reduced the arrears for the visitors as their opponents displaced them in third place.

Lenton Villa remained in the hunt as they returned from Crusader with an odd goal in five win, as Pat Neale hit two and Chris Whittaker one, whilst Chris Kemp and Steve Langdale responded.

It was a similar scoreline at Vernon Villa as they also gave notice of their intent, with Adam Thomas, Chris Bailey and Mark Hudson scoring for the hosts and Pt Hulme and Chris Baker-Beale for Portland Arms HH. Danny Douglas netted twice and Simon Taylor and Glen Morley once for Nottm Rangers as they changed places at the bottom of the table with New Fairham, who had Mark Thornloe responding.

Northern Counties East - Games played 17th January The KoolSport NCEL's interest in the FA Vase has ended after Scarborough Athletic were edged out by Bideford. Over 200 fans made the six-and-a-half hour trip to North Devon to watch their side narrowly miss out at their Western Football League hosts. But, they can be proud of their team's performance and by getting to the Fourth Round of the competition in their debut season. Nick Barker's first-half injury-time strike was all that separated the sides, leaving the Seadogs to now concentrate on their Division One promotion push. Mickleover Sports remain the Premier Division leaders after a 1-0 victory at home to Arnold Town.

The visitors, who fall to fourth following that defeat, would have gone top had they been victorious. Selby Town move up to second, three points behind Sports, following their narrow win over Liversedge at the Selby Times Stadium.

Chris Kamara scored the only goal of the game on 32 minutes to move above Arnold and Pickering Town who drew 1-1 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare. The Pikes had to come from behind when Dave Watts opened the scoring on the hour mark, Luke Ibbetson getting the equaliser soon after. Bridlington Town cemented their promotion charge by coming from 2-0 down to win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Nick Robinson and Ben Garrick had given strugglers Moorlands a perfect start in the opening 24 minutes. But, Jamie Heard and Craig Palmer had the Seasiders level by the break and Phil Harrison added a third on 58 minutes

before Frank Belt's 63rd-minute penalty made sure of the win. Bridlington are now undefeated in eight matches and have only been beaten once on their travels in the Premier Division. Gaols from Liam Cartledge and Michael Blythen helped Dinnington Town to a 2-0 win at home to Winterton Rangers, a victory that moves Steve Toyne's side up to sixth. And, Thackley climb to eighth as they were victorious by the same scoreline at Hall Road Rangers. Chris Coy scored just after the hour mark before Joel Birks sealed the points nine minutes from time. Maltby Main move up into the top half of the table after a they beat their visitors, Brodsworth Welfare, 3-1. Andy Sanderson had put Welfare, who stay seventeenth, ahead on 29 minutes before Main took control in the second period. Richard Tracey levelled on 56 minutes and was then fouled in the penalty area ten minutes later. Gary Hibbert tucked away the spot kick and Tracey got his second and Maltby's third on 75. And, a Liam Hardy brace gave Armthorpe Welfare the best start possible in a 3-1 win at Shirebrook Town. He struck twice in the opening sixteen minutes before Lee Naughton gave the home side some hope late on. But, that was snuffed out by Bruno Holden who got Welfare's third with two minutes remaining. With runaway Division One leaders Scarborough Athletic in FA Vase action, it was a perfect day for those chasing them to gain some ground. But, only one of the six sides immediately below the Seadogs won, Askern Villa

who were 1-0 winners at fellow promotion chasers, Barton Town Old Boys. Daniel Ferguson struck the vital goal on 75 minutes to move Villa within six points of Scarborough but they have played three games more. Third-placed Pontefract Collieries are a further six points behind after a 31 loss at home by Tadcaster Albion. Michael Long had put the Colls ahead on 36 minutes but Paul James, Andy Sunley and Chris Harkin turned the game on its head in the second half. Fourth-placed AFC Emley fell victim to a Wayne Crossley hat-trick in a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Brighouse Town, who move up to twelfth. Tony Nicholson scored in the opening seconds for Brighouse before Steven Kenworthy levelled on 22 minutes. Crossley opened his account and regained the lead for Brighouse in the fourth minute of first-half injury time. Paul Quinn had seemingly rescued a point for the hosts as he made it 2-2 on 75 minutes but Crossley struck twice more in the last ten minutes to earn the win. What a day in the Quartet Catering League Challenge Cup Second Round, Welbeck Welfare may be bottom of the Premier Division but they proved, again, what doughty fighters they are in the cup, by knocking out Supreme Division club, Kimberley Town 3-0 at the Stag Ground. The Premier Division leaders Westella and Willerby, completed four out of four for the Premier Division clubs, they went to Clipstone Welfare and it was another penalty that decided this tie, the Supreme Division club giving away a penalty for only three minutes remaining, gleefully stuck home by Westella's Andy Coverdale. Prior to this, Mathew Fyvie had put the visitors in front, Craig Buchanan equalising for the home team, prior to half time. In an all Supreme Division tie, predictably it goes to a replay on Tuesday, Radcliffe Olympic securing a draw with a last minute goal at Forest Town, Wesley Spence the goal scorer. The home team led at half time, with a goal converted by Ryan Gregory. Shocks in the cup and a shock in the Buckingham Insurance Supreme Division, Newark Town had a eight match unbeaten run, going into their home game against Pinxton, but the visitors took a shock first minute lead through Mark Downing and kept this score intact, thus ending Newark's unbeaten run. League Leaders, Harworth Colliery Institute, duly opened up a five point lead at the top of the table, goals by Ryan Paczkowski (2), Tom Cook and Lee Danysz gave the North Nottinghamshire club a 4-2 victory over their Lincolnshire visitors, Nettleham, who replied through Steven Mason and Lee Beesley. Third placed Sutton Town AFC, moved to within a point of second placed Calverton Miners Welfare, visitors Rolls Royce Leisure had no answer to the home team's attacking display. Goals by Kyle Ludlow, Martin Newman, Ben Greenhalgh and a brace from James Senior, gave the home team a 5-0 score line.

Southwell City and Blidworth Welfare shared two goals at the Recreation Ground. Jamie Senior gave the visitors an half time lead but Player Manager, Mark Nangle, rescued a point for Southwell. Two goals by Liam Radford secured the points for Kinsley Boys at Harrowby United. The Kinsley striker scored in each half, to give his team a 2-0 victory. In the Black Dragon Premier Division, Parramore Sports again impressed at Thoresby Colliery Welfare, after a goalless first half the visitors turned it on after the interval to run out 3-0 winners. This result takes Parramore into second place in the table, five points behind leaders Westella; like third placed Louth Town, Parramore remain undefeated. In a local derby encounter, a first half goal by Scott Pratt, gave Kirkby Town victory over local rivals, Church Warsop Miners Welfare. The Bentley Colliery versus Bulwell Town match was abandoned at half time, with the home team leading 1-0. No problems for Yorkshire Main Reserves, in their Phoenix Trophies Reserves League Cup Second Round tie, they crushed a young Bulwell Town Reserves team 12-0. for the visitors to hit back through Karl Payne and Jamie Pawley, the latter netting the equaliser with just two minutes to go. That slip by the leaders allowed second-placed Dunkirk to close to within a point following their 3-0 defeat of Hinckley Downes, Jerrod Westcarr, Dwayne Soar and Neil Thompson netting the goals. Holwell Sports were the day's biggest winners as they romped to a 5-1 victory at home to Ellistown, the goals coming from Russ Pitman, Scot Mooney, Jamie Simpson, Graham Keast and Jamie Kirby. Barrow Town were 4-1 winners at Blackwell MW, Danny Wilson and Stuart Wilson sharing the goals, while Bradley Wells struck twice for Radford as they beat Bardon Hill 3-1.

Central Midlands report continued Welfare Reserves; they lost to a last minute goal, at home, against Teversal Reserves. Fourth placed Rainworth Miners Welfare Reserves, with goals by, Graham Louden, David Middleton and Sam Goodson defeated visitors, Graham St Prims Reserves 3-1. Aiden Murfin the Prims marksman. The fifth and sixth placed teams, Staveley Miners Welfare Reserves and Dunkirk Reserves shared six goals. Jack Mlynek, Lee Johnsone and Daniel Eborall scored for Staveley.

Phil Hopkinson and Rob McCoy, who netted twice, the Dunkirk sharp shooters. The Arnold Town Reserves versus Mickleover Sports Reserves match was cancelled. Report by Frank Harwood Mansfield Town 1 Crawley 0 A 1-0 victory gave David Holdsworth the perfect start to his tenure at Field Mill who looked to have instilled discipline at the back and a desire to get forward. In his first game in charge; Holdsworth gave starts to four of his new signings and they were key factors in ending Crawley's nine game unbeaten run.

A superb volley from Robert Duffy in the 29th minute gave the Stags the lead and managed to hold on with some fine saves from Man of the match Alan Marriott. Before the match got under way players and fans took part in a one minute round of applause to mark the passing of former Stags' boss Ian Greaves. After a quiet opening couple of minutes it was Mansfield who created the first chance. Some neat footwork from Aaron O'Connor in the middle of Crawley's half he then laid off a neat ball to Nathan Arnold, who crossed the ball over from the left flank. Crawley's defence failed to deal with it and the ball fell for O'Connor who on the turn fired over the bar.

After a scrappy period a neat one two between the lively O'Connor and Jonathan D'Laryea opened up Crawley and was only stopped by a last ditch tackle from Adam Quinn.

Crawley's first chance came from some good work by Dannie Bullman. His cross found Steve Fletcher who chested it down into the path of Lewis Chalmers who fired wide. The visitors then started to take control. Glenn Wilson's long throw causing a scramble in the Mansfield penalty area which was eventually cleared away. Crawley's front man Jon-Paul Pittman created an opportunity with a neat turn but his shot was denied by Alan Marriot who managed to get down and palm it wide for a corner. Despite this Crawley pressure it was Mansfield who broke the dead lock in the 28th minute. On the counter attack Nathan Arnold, who had drifted over to the right found Duffy in the box with a measured cross. The new boy had time to bring it down with his chest and volley it past Simon Rayner into the bottom left corner of the net. A great strike and perfect start for debutant. After the goal Crawley pushed forward, Marriott, playing his first game for the Stags, kept them in front with a fine save from Simon Weatherstone's header at the back post.

The final few minutes of the half were end to end with both teams playing positive passing football but only managing to create half chances. The Stags started the second half slowly.

Failing to deal with a ball in their own box the ball finally fell to Pittman who fired across the Mansfield goal. Holdsworth made an early change, bringing on James Kay in place of Alex Jeannin in the 53rd minute. Two minutes later Mansfield were awarded a free kick for a foul on O'Connor outside the Crawley penalty box. From 25 yards Nathan Arnold blasted his free kick straight at goal forcing Simon Rayner to beat it away. Soon after Arnold was brought off making way Tomi Ameobi to make his fisrt appearance. The next ten minutes was all Crawley.

Crosses being delivered from both flanks put pressure on the Mansfield's defence but the back line looked solid and managed to keep getting the ball clear. The best Crawley chance falling for Simon Rents who, from the edge of the box fired over. After soaking up the pressure Mansfield played their way back into the game through good passing and hard

tackling in the midfield. With 20 minutes to go Holdsworth made his final change, bringing off goalscorer Duffy for Mark Stallard.

With time ticking away Crawley threw men forward looking for an equaliser, Rents cross from the left byline found Pittman whose first time volley hit the wood work. It was backs to the walls defending for a while with Kay making some vital last ditch clearances and Man of the match Alan Marriott diving at the feet of Pittman to stop a shot on goal. In the final minutes Mansfield kept their composure and hung on with strong defending and some decent hold up play from Stallard. When the final whistle finally arrived it was greeted with huge cheers from the Mansfield faithful. The win is a perfect start for David Holdsworth and his men who were disciplined at the back and showed a desire in getting forward.

Tamworth FC 1 Hucknall Town 1 Hucknall Town picked up a deserved point this afternoon after drawing 1-1 at league leaders Tamworth. It was a well earned point for Bryan Chambers` men who can feel well pleased with the display. There was just one change to the team that began against Alfreton Town last Tuesday and that was up front where Dave Kettle began the game in place of Joe Ward who took his place on the bench. The two teams lined up as follows.

Tremiane Walters had recovered from his groin strain picked up in the Alfreton game and he took his place in a formation which was once again 3-5-2. In Tamworth`s last league game they suffered a 5-1 defeat at Gateshead last Sunday but they opened up in a confident manner stroking and passing the ball around well. They carved out the first opening when Alex Rodman shot across the face of the goal and Walters cleared for a corner and from the resultant kick Michael Wylde headed over the bar. The visitors hit back and Gary Ricketts headed on a long clearance from `keeper` James Lindley but as Dave Kettle tried to round Danny Alcock in the home goal the keeper got a touch to the ball before it was cleared to safety. Another long clearance caused problems for the home defence when the ball bounced over Craig McAughtrie but this time Ricketts blazed hurriedly across goal and the chance was gone. Rodman who was having a fine game for the home side, beat Walters and sent over a super cross into the six yard box but Deon Meikle saved the day with a superb clearance. Lindley then made a good save from Jake Sheridan but in thirty four minutes the home side made the breakthrough they had been threatening when following a goalmouth scramble the ball fell nicely for Gareth Sheldon to smash the ball high into the roof of the net. The visitors made a storming start to the second half and just four minutes in they were back on level terms with a superb individual goal from Dave Kettle. He picked the ball up and from the edge of the area curled a superb left foot shot over the head of Alcock into the roof of the net. It was no more than Hucknall deserved and things could have got even better when a through ball from Laurie Wilson found Ricketts who shot wide and then moments later the big striker did the same from twelve yards out. At the other end the home side were denied a penalty when Bradley Pritchard went down under a challenge from Walters but the referee waved play on much to the disgust of the home fans. On seventy minutes the league leaders were reduced to ten men when Sheldon was sent off for a second booking after he had fouled Richard Liburd from behind. Danny Bacon then conceded a free kick in a dangerous spot but thankfully for him Tom Shaw`s shot was off target and then ten minutes from the end the Hucknall goal had an amazing escape. Following a goalmouth scramble Lindley pushed the ball somehow against the bar and when it came back he pushed the ball away but was pushed by McAughtrie who was booked for his troubles. The initial effort looked a goal all the way but luck, for once, was on our side. Tamworth had another chance moments later but Pritchard`s shot hit Lindley in the chest before being cleared but Hucknall Town hung on to claim a deserved point and silence the majority of the excellent crowd of 1132.

took the sending off of defender Paul Robinson to step the Badgers up a gear after they had totally dominated this UniBond Premier Clash.

With the game having been switched to North Lancashire side Clitheroe's ground, after permission to take charge of their brand new Sports Village Stadium was denied, Paul Cox found a very heavy pitch, after the nights rain and elected to go with a 4-4-2 formation. Anton Foster reclaimed his familiar No 8 shirt, and big striker Matt Rhead replaced Lindon Meikle. Mark Hume was starting a two game ban so defender Paul Robinson moved into the back four. The badgers could have gone ahead in the first minute as Ian Holmes burst clear but shot wide and seconds later Ben McHugh's late tackle stopped Holmes at the expense of a corner. Robinson's header was cleared off the line by Kris King and Andy Todd's follow up shot went wide. Leigh's first foray into the Eastwood half saw Nick Lindford feed Steve Settle but he dragged his shot wide. When Rhead flicked the ball on, Holmes and Todd went for the same ball, causing Todd to over hit a through ball which would have put Gardner in on goal. Danny Morton the Leigh goalkeeper was out quickly to collect the ball as Gardner played Anton Foster through. Ben McHugh again produced a fine last ditch tackle as Holmes bore down on goal. With all this constant Eastwood pressure it came as a surprise that it was Leigh that could and probably should have taken the lead. A Simon Sturdy slip presented Phil Marsh with a clear run on goal, but Shane Redmond was out quickly and stood his ground well to push the ball out for Leigh's first corner. McHugh thwarted Holmes for a third time as the striker waited to head home Gardner's pin-point cross at the expense of another corner. A Cookie header from a Dunning corner was tipped over by Morton, and Matt Rhead hit the post with a good header from a corner. Ian Holmes did have the ball in the back of the net after Rhead had played him through, however the linesman's flag was raised. Alistair Asher should have done better when Gardner's shot was charged down. Bursting into the box, he blazed over from 15 yards with only the keeper to beat. Phil Marsh, the Leigh striker, was the only player look who looked likely to cause problems for the Eastwood defence forcing Robinson to concede a corner, from which nothing came. Having failed to convert any of their numerous chances in the first half, anxiety was starting to creep into the fans and player alike. Paul Cox made a brave decision to replace Alistair Asher with Lindon Meikle at the start on the second half, but the Badgers started where they left off. Ian Holmes pulled his shot wide as he cut in from the wing. McHugh conceded another corner to prevent Foster going through on goal and Kris King headed Simon Sturdy's header off the line from Dunning's corner. Lindon Meikle fired over the bar after Andy Todd's cross from the by-line had found him in space. Had this been a fight the referee would have stopped it long ago, however at 0-0 Leigh were always still in the game, and so it proved. Shane Redmond went to launch a back-pass down the field, the ball bobbled and he gifted it straight at the feet of Marsh. Robinson impeded him as he ran on goal leaving the referee little choice but to send him off. Leigh enjoyed their best spell of the game as the Eastwood team re-grouped, and although they saw a lot of the ball they failed to trouble Shane Redmond in the Eastwood goal. There were loud appeals as Anton Foster was bundled over in the box however the referee waved play-on. Steve Settle got free down the wing finding the unmarked David Hill inside the box but he couldn't keep his shot down.

Eastwood finally went ahead with a well worked move. Meikle fed Dunning on the over lap and his cross was headed across goal by Rhead leaving Holmes with a simple tap in with his head. The Badgers doubled the score within a minute as Holmes burst down the line and his precise cross was tapped in by Meikle arriving late into the box.

Leigh could have halved the score after the ball skimmed off the head of Simon Sturdy and fell at the feet of Steve Settle. With only Redmond to beat, the ball bounced off his shins straight to the grateful Keeper.

Marsh's shot against the post after a Mark Radcliffe cross had found him unmarked. In the 77th minute it was three, as Rhead's accurate cross was met superbly by Holmes who finished in style. The final goal came nine minutes later as Dunning's chip into the box was chested down and volleyed home by Knox to give the score line a more respectable look.

Ilkeston Town 3 Nantwich Town 2 Ilkeston Town were hoping to field the same line up that played so well but lost to Kidderminster Harriers in midweek. Unfortunately David Haggerty was injured in the warm up and was replaced by Liam Wild who made his league debut. Nantwich Town started very brightly and Ilkeston were pinned back into their own half in the early stages. The visitors were unfortunate not to take the lead when Michael Lennon was adjudged to be offside when he latched on to a ball played by Ben Pringle. Nantwich eventually got the breakthrough they deserved

Five minutes later Ilkeston replied with a goal of their own against the run of play. Pringle's cross was latched on to by Tom Cahill whose shot cannoned off keeper Lee Jones foot but Cahill followed up and bravely headed the rebound into the net. The Robinswere somewhat fortunate to go in at half time on equal terms . After the interval though they stepped up a gear and started to put the visiting under real pressure and on 66 minutes Ilkeston took a 2-1 lead when Steven Istead was bought down in the box by Grigorz Kiss who was shown the red card. Cahill took the penalty and confidently despatched the ball to the keepers left.

Although down to ten men Nantwich still looked capable of getting back into the game. They were however leaving gaps at the back and Ilkeston should have extended their lead when Sam Duncum fed Pringle whose effort was blocked by the advancing keeper. The Robins nearly paid a heavy price for the missed chance when substitute Danny Griggs danced around several defenders but ballooned his shot over the bar. On 76 minutes Ilkeston eventually extend their lead when Istead played in Mark Newsham who beat two defenders before coolly placing the ball past Jones.

Nantwich again came back strongly and the impressive Lennon got them back in the game after 83 minutes. The Robins were left to navigate a nervous final ten minutes but they held out for a hard fought victory which takes them back into the play off zone.

Mickleover Sport 1 Arnold Town 0 Arnold Town lost on their second league game of the season in this top of the table encounter away to Mickleover. The defeat the first since October leaves the Eagles in fourth place and is a serious dent to their promotion hopes. Mickleover started much the better of the two sides and it was no surprise when they went ahead on 17 minutes. An Arnold attack broke down and O'connell linked well with Karl Ashton who cut in to slide past Lee Broster in the Arnold goal. Mickleover continued to dominate the opening spell with Arnold slowly coming to terms with the heavy conditions and Martin Carruthers saw his header well saved after good work by 'Our Dave' Jephson. The second half saw Arnold change their formation - opting for 4-4-2 and they began to press hard against their hosts. Chances remained at a premium and Arnold left themselves liable to a breakaway. Only 5 minutes after the restart Mickleover were awarded a penalty when Mark Clarke was adjudged to have brought down Ashton. Lee Broster saved brilliantly from the forwards resulting penalty and this seemed to galvanise Arnold in to action. Chris Freestone should have equalised with 70 minutes gone when through on goal but Kennerson in the Mickleover goal got down well to save. Crosses rained in to the Mickleover box but the Derbyshire outfits

well marshalled defence stood firm. Arnold had an amazing escape with 5 minutes remaining after Coulson rounded the Arnold keeper and lost his footing with the goal at his mercy. In stoppage time Lee Soar saw his volley tipped over by Kennerson as Arnold looked to snatch a late leveller.

Arnold: Broster, Thornton, Jephson, Clarke,Soar, Dyce (Walton 46) Clifford (Brookes 62) Hall, Freestone (Mitchell 74), Carruthers, Adams Southwell City 1 Blidworth Welfare 1 Honours were shared with a goal in each half as City came from behind to ensure that they stayed ahead of visitors Blidworth in the CML Supreme Division. A new look and resurgent Blidworth were out for revenge in the third meeting of the two teams this season. City had already recorded a league win and a League Cup win at Blidworth but the visitors were in no mood to make it three out of three for City. Blidworth started the brightest as City tried out a new formation due to injuries and absentees. The Blidworth front pairing of Murray Campbell and Jamie Senior supported by wide men Lee Easom and Shaun Roberts caused anxiety in the City three man defence and the services of the midfield were called upon to assist on several occasions. This forced City onto the back foot and the City attacks were restricted to penetrating runs from Ben Porter, whose silky skills caused problems to the Blidworth back four. The first real chance fell to City on 17 minutes when Ben Porter cut inside and his left foot shot was well saved by James Davies from close range.

Further chances also fell to City when Danny Prance headed just over the bar from a Ben Porter cross.

Moments later an Adam Meakin free kick was also headed over the bar this time from Michael Love. At the other end Campbell and Senior continued to make runs deep into the City half and Senior came close on 23 minutes to open the scoring. Two minutes later and Senior looked certain to score but his fierce close range shot was brilliantly saved by stand in keeper Paddy Ryan to keep the City goal intact. City's best chance by far came ten minutes before the break when Ben Porter continued to torment the Blidworth defence and having beaten two men took the ball into the penalty area and drew the ball back to the feet of Alex Turpin whose shot went over the bar with Davies beaten in the Blidworth goal. With the half time whistle approaching Blidworth's Stuart Grozier fouled City's Michael Love which resulted in a yellow card for Grozier and a visit to the hospital for Love to have several stitches applied to the injury on his thigh. The resultant City free kick was a disaster as after a mix up the ball fell loose to Jamie Senior who gratefully accepted the gift and gave City keeper Paddy Ryan no chance to put Blidworth one up at half time. Having already replaced Michael Love with Tom McDonald City boss made an early second half substitution replacing debutant Jonny Nussey with Ally Haynes wide on the left. City went in search of the equaliser and on 50 minutes a Danny Prance free kick was headed off the line by Blidworth's Alex Marsh. City

were now in the ascendancy and City boss Mark Nangle brought himself on for Alex Turpin to bolster the City attack. The supporters did not have to wait long as on 61 minutes City were awarded a corner and Nangle headed home despite the close attention of two Blidworth defenders. By now it was all City and Blidworth made three substitutions in a short space of time to stem the flow of chances created by City but to no avail. Ben Porter hit the cross bar on 65 minutes and Davies was called upon several times to make saves from Tom McDonald, Ben Porter and Danny Prance.

The final whistle came with both sides satisfied with a draw.

Blidworth Welfare: Davies, Whitworth, Grozier (Morley), Roper, Tagg, Marsh (Buckland), Easom, Williams, Campbell (Hole), Senior, Roberts Newark Town 0 Pinxton 1 A below par Newark display saw them lose their 8 match winning run to a hard working Pinxton at a windy Station Road. Newark were forced into two changes, with the unavailable Gareth Dobb and injured Jack Beckett, being replaced by Ian Wade and James Trentini respectively. Newark were caught cold at the start, with only 40 seconds on the clock Downing forcing the ball home at the third attempt, after Riley had blocked two close range strikes. After this early setback Newark quickly regrouped, but both sides struggled to play football in the windy conditions. It took a good 15 minutes for Newark to get into their stride, a couple of deep crosses from Mark Ellison being the extent of Town's threat to the Pinxton keeper. Town had to wait until the 23rd minute for their first real opportunity to come along, when Sam Wilford went on an inspired run into the Pinxton half. He laid the ball off to FP McGregor who hit his shot over the bar. Pinxton should have doubled their lead two minutes later, when Marriott's shot was finger tipped across the area by Chris Riley, before Mark Blant cleared off the toes of Debruwer. A corner, by Craig Roche on 31 minutes created another opportunity for an equaliser, but McGregor's diving header was misdirected and the keeper gathered comfortably.

Town were rarely given the opportunity to settle on the ball, and could have few complaints with the half time score. After an early free kick by Debruwer was narrowly hit over the bar, it became apparent that Newark would be at an advantage in the second half, with the wind blowing in their favour. Although Newark created a lot of chances, they failed to really test the visitor's keeper. Mark Ellison and Sam Wilford both had shots from promising situations saved by McCormack. The introduction of Chris Self, who replaced Craig Roche on the hour mark, seemed to give Newark some added impetus as they pushed for an equaliser; Cree having two volleys which both went narrowly wide of the post. Pinxton threatened again on 68 minutes when Riley saved smartly at the feet of Marriot after he had broken clear. As the half wore on, Newark continued to create pressure, but only seemed to conjure half chances, McCormack being well able to deal with most of what was thrown at him. On 86 minutes, Newark were denied when Mc Cormack booted the ball away as Simon Ellison lined up the shot. They then had perhaps the best chance in the dying seconds, as a Chris Self shot was deflected goalwards, and had to be cleared off the line by Newman, as the keeper could only get a hand on it. Credit must be given to Pinxton however, as they denied Newark space to manoeuvre the ball, and were definitely one of the most hardworking teams the Blues have faced in a while. After the match, Rupert Thomas said, “The first ten minutes we didn't wake up, we could see that when we were warming up. We changed to a 4-4-2 in the second half which suited us better, and we had the chances but didn't take them”. Town will be looking to bounce back when they host Clipstone next Saturday.

MONDAY PREMIERSHIP DIVISION – League champions Marquis of Lorne produced the performance of the week to beat third place Masters 7-2 at home to remain two points clear at the points at the top of the Nottingham & District Pool League premiership division, the duo of Dale Mayes & Marcus Langford (Marquis) secured the points. Second place Ponda had a close 5-4 home win over bottom-makers Carlton & District Constitutional Club, Matt Tugby (Ponda) took the match-winning frame. Fourth place March Hare overcome the Commics 5-4 away from home through former pairs champion Malc “Patrick Swayze” Marriott (Hare) in the last leg decider.

Fifth place Colonel Burnaby went down to a 5-4 defeat at the Basford Hall Miners Welfare, ex-pairs champion Mark Snowshall (Basford) done the damage. Sixth place Beechdale had a superb 6-3 away win over the Test Match, John Cummins (Beechdale) clinched the match.

MONDAY DIVISION 1 – The Bank are the new leaders of division one after beating fifth place Pheasant Inn 6-3 at home, the pairing of Grant Boardman & David Harrison (Bank) sealed the victory. Former leaders Bruno lost 5-4 at local-rivals Old Volunteer through Jeff McKay (Volo) in the deciding frame.

Mark Featherstone's Phoenix Reds had a tight 5-4 home win over third place Queen Adelaide, Anthony Wood (Reds) made sure of the points.

Bottom-makers Hooters won their first match of the season at local-rivals Hubble Bar 5-4, thanks to Simon Checkley (Hooters) sealing the match in the final frame.

MONDAY DIVISION 2 – Unbeaten New Station Road Social Club kept up 100% record at the top of division two with a close 5-4 home win over fifth place Oakdale, ex-singles finalist Gary “Boring Boring” Blackshaw (Station) took the match in last leg decider. Second place Spot On had a brilliant 7-2 home win over the Jolly Farmers, the duo of John Fountain & Craig Abbott (Spot) did the damage. Third place Gregory beat fourth place Sycamore inn 6-3 at home, the pairing of Hayden Riley & Michael Francis (Gregory) confirmed the points. Sixth place Top Spot Club went down to a 5-4 home defeat by the L.M.R.C.A Rockets through Gary Storey (Rockets) in the vital last leg. Bottom-makers Nags Head lost 6-3 at the Riley's Rockets, the duo of Nick Lansom & Jas Sammi (Rileys) secured the victory.

MONDAY DIVISION 3 – Third division leaders Building Trades Social Club suffered 5-4 defeat at second place Coopers Arms, thanks to Alan Hutton (Coopers) sealing the match in final frame. The Nottingham Indoor Bowls Centre moved up to joint second place with a brilliant 8-1 home win over fifth place Major J'Oakers with Matt Bowles (Bowls) setting them on their way.

THURSDAY SUPER 7's KO PLATE – Second division leaders March Hare stayed on course for league & plate double by beating first division Vernon Bullets 5-3 in the super 7's KO plate semi-final, Cory Whyler (Hare) took the deciding frame and will now face March Hare's other team Mad Rabbit in final after they overcome first division-rivals Fairway 5-2 in the other tie through the duo of Keith Simm & Shaun Farrar (Rabbit) in the seventh leg to seal their place in the final.

THURSDAY DIVISION 1 – First division leaders Hubble Bar had a superb 63 home win over fourth place Fairway, the pairing of Clive Greensmith & Darren Millichip (Hubble) confirmed the points. Congratulations to Carlton Top Spot on winning the Division 2 title, in their first season in the league, after beating closest rivals, Major Oak. In a see-saw game, Top Spot found themselves 3-0 up early on thanks to wins by Colin Hardstaff, who easily overcame County player, Countdown star and former male model, Matt Coates and also Ady Eames and Trevor Kirby. The match was then turned on it's head as Oak took the next four legs, thanks especially to excounty ladies player, Claire Moore, who won both her singles and doubles. However, Top Spot were not to be denied and a second win by their in-form captain, Ady Eames, playing with veteran, Keith Hodgkinson, in the doubles set up Nick Sharpe to take the glory last leg win. In the race for the Averages Final Play-Off, Top Spot now find themselves in the unusual position of having three players all tied with identical records of ten wins from thirteen games and so will need a 3-way play-off to decide the winner.

In the other Division 2 match, Calverton Miners Welfare came from behind to overcome The Longbow, despite being a player short.

From 2-0 down they won five of the next six legs to take the match and have Kev Howard and the evergreen pairing of Robin Rutt and Ken Widdowson to thank, after they took all five games between

them. Despite a win for Longbow stalwart, Mick Drury, Jamie Walker's first leg victory saw him finish just ahead in their team averages.

In Division 1, The Eagles almost ended their long losing run against Empire Dragons, after a return to form for Andy Brace, who won his first game since September, saw them run the new champions close. In the end though, the Dragons' class shone through with wins for the likes of new county star, Martin Lovett and county reject, Chris Bailey and they took the match 7-5. After this result, Nobby Clarke for The Eagles and Ashley Radford for the Dragons, secured their places at the Averages Final Play-Offs.

In the match of the night, Cherry Tree A took the honours against Railway Volunteers, after they travelled the short distance down the A614 to Lowdham and gained a lucky win. During the match, Martin Maltby secured his spot at the Averages Final after his win saw him finish well clear of second placed Tony Wyatt. The highlight of the night was the game between the Blackshaw brothers, which, despite Corey having just shot a quick-fire 8Baller, was won easily by his slightly less scruffy sibling.

placed Empire B . . . to take a leg in their 11-1 drubbing, with Andy “Behind The Bar” Hayes comfortably securing his first ever Bottom of the Averages title after setting a new League record of fourteen consecutive defeats. Calverton & Arnold Interleague star, Simon Thompson secured top spot in the Empire's averages and moved up to second in the overall League standings, whilst even the skills of Paul Jones couldn't help Tony McDonald to his first win since 1998 in the final pairs leg.

In the relegation 4-pointer at the Victory Club, which is widely regarded as the true home of pool in Arnold, Ex Service Club staged an amazing comeback to win the last four legs and virtually secure their First Division status. Ian Day and Ant Wilson were their star performers and remain neck and neck in the averages race after both winning two legs each. The glory leg was taken by veteran and everyone's' favourite plumber, Andy Simons who easily saw off the challenge of opposing craptain, Chris Winson, whose typical mistake was seized upon with equally typical gay abandon.

BEESTON, CHILWELL & DIST. DARTS LADIES: In what can only be described as a turnaround that reversed the fortunes of the top of the leader board this week as both the Pelican and the Boat take close defeats. When they last met the Boat all but annihilated the Chequers in a 6-1 victory that moved them from the bottom of the table to the halfway stage. This time round was sweet revenge for Chequers taking the Boat out with a close 4-3 win. A similar situation occurred at the Boat & Horses who lost 4-3 to Pelican last time but turned it round to a 4-3 victory on their home turf slipping the Boat & Horses into second slot on leg difference.

Meanwhile the Chequers, Nook and the Pelican are still in the race and, despite Pelicans defeat this week, will prove good contestants to the title if they continue their winning form.

MEN'S: Boat & Horses take their first tumble in the league losing their unbeaten status as league champions in a 6-3 thrashing from the Queens.

themselves closer to that championship title and are now level on legs but with the Boat & Horses still retaining top slot by a two point lead. Birchover also start their comeback trail despite being a man down they still managed a good 6-3 victory over Wollaton to move back to fourth place. Meanwhile division B's Chequers remain the only unbeaten side in the league with a tidy 7-2 victory.

Newbie side the Nook still stay close at heel looking for that promotion zone and the division champions. Boat and Horses B are the dark horse side at the moment moving silently up the table with that misleading odd points score.

They are determined to give the Nook team a good run for it when they face them next week.

NOTTINGHAM CENTRAL DARTS LADIES: Division A's Strelley took a hard knockback by losing against Pride and ruining their chances of slipping into top slot. Meanwhile a good win form CBI sees the newly promoted gals slip into second place pushing Strelley into third, leaving a joint battle between Strelley and Cambridge as both push to move back up. Both Clifton Welfare and Poets are gearing for a competitive change of fortunes in the second half of the season as they struggle to avoid relegation. Division B's Park Tavern attempt to further cement their seat position with a brill 6-1 victory but are closely chased by Nuthall as the two jostle for first slot and a guarantee of promotion.

MIXED: No Mixed leagues report this week as the first round of the pairs were played. More next week.

MEN'S: As Beechdale take a bye this week the Queens use it to their advantage to square the points and move to first slot on leg difference.

Meanwhile both the Clifton teams face relegation unless they can come back with a vengeance this half of the season. Division B's Birchover and Horses and Jockey both hot up the pace as solid wins put them back joint level with the Lion with just a few legs separating them. All change now as, gloves off, they all take each other on over the next few weeks and neither wanting to give any quarter in that promotions push.
