It has been a challenging week for Forest. With Reading and Preston despatched, the unforgiving schedule brought play-off hopefuls Swansea to the City Ground. Swansea are another class act; they move the ball expertly and tease victories by dominating possession. In Jason Scotland they have a ballistic missile leading the front line. But again Forest coped, and at times they threatened to bag all three points. Buoyed by two overdue arrivals and a return to fitness for the likes of Guy Moussi, it was a bright start. Forest forced a corner after only 20 seconds. Unfortunately the pressure did not last. Swansea took control of the game and asked questions of a defence that sagged and swayed in Morgan's absence. There were problems going forward too. Moussi was a spare part for the opening 20 minutes, touching the ball twice and wandering without purpose. He and Osbourne tucked in and, eventually, made good in a difficult system. But at points in the first half Forest were breaking with only Earnshaw and Cohen to aim for. It is a credit to the seasoning of real quality Forest now have in the side that they managed to create so many chances. There were flashes of excellence from McSheffrey, and players like Paul Anderson are never far from action. Loanee Izzy Osbourne came closest as

A fine away performance by Notts County ultimately came with no reward this afternoon with a 3-2 defeat at Shrewsbury Town. A bright opening by County was rewarded on sixteen minutes when Richard Butcher fired home his eighth goal of the campaign. Then the Referee, Mr Whitestone, took centre stage. First he awarded a soft free-kick from which Moses Ashkod equalised, and he awarded an equally soft penalty before the break than Grant Holt slammed home. Manager Ian McParland was banished to the stands at the break and he could only look on as the home side made the points safe through Graham Coughlan nineteen minutes from time. Jonathan Forte pulled a goal back late on. Perhaps unsurprisingly after his post-match comments on Tuesday evening at Darlington - claiming his side simply weren't good enough on the night - Ian McParland made three changes to his starting line-up from the game and also

he struck the crossbar from 20-yards. But largely this was one of those galling affairs where every second ball squirms to the opposition and every firm shoulder solicits attention from the referee. When Swansea cashed in on Paul Smith's daydreaming meander and took the lead there did not seem to be an obvious escape route. However, Davies' resurgent Forest side is made of metal and not perspex. Forest kept asking questions, and eventually Joel Lynch's scything ball proved the perfect compliment to a beautifully-timed McGugan run. It did not cross Davies' mind to press for three points. Osbourne was urged to slow down his passage to the bench, and Perch was thrown in as sub at the expense of a baited Joe Garner. In the end it did not matter. Few Forest fans will have any complaints about taking seven points from three very tough games. Ratings Smith – 5 – not a bad performance, but from my end he looked to be at fault for the goal. Chambers – 5 – struggled defensively this afternoon and allowed too many crosses into the box. Wilson – 7 – did a fairly good job of keeping Scotland's influence to a minimum. A player capable of 20 Championship goals will always slip through the net once or twice. Breckin – 6 – stretched to breaking point at times, but he just about coped. Lynch – 7 – another strong performance, following up two steady displays. Anderson – 7 – his decision-making let him down, as it often does, but he is an incessant threat. Osbourne – 7 – another solid performance. Moussi – 7 – he looked rather like a surplus volunteer in the opening 20 minutes, but his range, ambition and accuracy proved useful as the game wore on. Cohen – 7 – his box-to-box approach could prove vital if Moussi and Osbourne are to be combined again in future. McSheffrey – 7 – strokes of excellence, marred by one or two patches of rust. Earnshaw – 7 – always a threat. Subs: McCleary – 6.5 – did a little bit too much backing out of challenges for my liking, but his pace and strength are excellent qualities. McGugan – 7 – did what he was asked to do. Perch – 7 – one thumping tackle of note. Report by Alex Campbell shuffled his tactics. Veteran defender Michael Johnson returned to the starting line-up after being rested in midweek, midfielder Richard Butcher was handed a recall and Stephen Hunt made just his fourth League start of the season at left-back. Out dropped Captain Mike Edwards and Jamie Forrester to the bench and Adam Nowland failed to recover from a back niggle to make the trip. That meant a re-jig tactically by the Scot. Jamie Clapham moved to left side midfield and Myles Weston to the right, with Butcher and Thompson - who was named as Captain - operating in the middle of the park. There was also a surprise on the bench with winger Matt Hamshaw amongst the substitutes despite being ruled out of the game 48 hours ago by Ian McParland with a hamstring problem. In their black and white stripes Notts won the toss and opted to shoot towards their own fans in the first half, with the home side getting the game underway. County began brightly and within two minutes Richard Butcher blasted a longrange effort over the crossbar. A minute later Jonathan Forte latched onto a Facey flick-on inside the box and blasted a low effort at goal which was well saved by Daniels in his six-yard box. Forte had shown excellent strength to get the shot away by easing Coughlan out of the way, but Daniels thwarted the on-loan striker. Report continued on page 8

NSL - PELICAN SEE OFF BRAVE AWSWORTH! Bilborough Pelican cemented their place as leaders of the NSL Senior Division with a 3-1 away win at bottom side Awsworth Villa. Pelican had moved to the top of the table on Wednesday after a midweek win over struggling Gedling Southbank, knocking Wollaton off top spot for the first time all season. Their win today stretched their lead to four points, Matt Eastwood (2) and Danny Henshaw the scorers whilst Andy Start replied for Awsworth, whose valiant effort went unrewarded. Pelican are now unbeaten in 12 games. Wollaton however haven't won in their last three outings, and were held to a goalless draw by Cotgrave CW. Kimberley picked up an excellent three points in their battle against relegation, a suprising 2-1 away win at 4th place Magdala. Ruddington also picked up a useful point in their fight against the drop, a 2-2 away draw at Caribbean Cavaliers, Waddeley and Grinley the scorers for Rudd whilst Burke and Evans replied for the home side. Hucknall Rolls Leisure piled the misery on Gedling Southbank with a 3-2 home victory over the bottom club, Hodgson amongst the scorers for Hucknall. In Division One, Bulwell were emphatic 6-0 winners over Boots res, top scorer Duane Haywood netting a hat-trick to add further to his impressive record this campaign. Gedling Southbank res lost ground after being held to a home draw against struggling Kimberley res, Sam Thomson cancelling out Ryan Dowenty's effort for the away side. Pelican res and Matrixgrade were also winners, Pelican triumphant 41 over Underwood Villa whilst Matrixgrade beat Keyworth res 3-0. In Division Two, Cavaliers res were victorious in a thrilling match against Linby res, who scored three times courtesy of Price, Man and Hannigan. MAA - FC05 SLOW THE PACE OF WOODBROUGH! Premier Division leaders Woodborough United lead second placed Southwell Amateurs by a one goal difference after being held 3-3 by fourth placed FC05 whilst Southwell were netting four goals without reply from TVFC. Ryan King, Martin Small and Sam Lamb, enabled Woodborough to take the lead from a hotly disputed penalty. Stevie Walker's hat-trick levelled the scores and the same player almost won the match when he struck the crossbar with two minutes remaining. Meanwhile Will Wheat's hat-trick for Southwell paved the way for their victory with Charlie Nichols completing the tally. Jim Greenacre's double coupled with goals from Gareth Lewis and Gavin Carr enabled Beeston OBA to record a 4-1 victory over Steelers. Monty Hind Old Boys for the second successive match fell to a solitary goal with third placed Old Elizabethans the beneficiaries on this occasion. Wollaton III doubled their tally of victories for the season when they trounced Brunts Old Boys 5-1, whilst goals from Marcus Denton and Mark Greensmith enabled Nottinghamshire to end a four match losing sequence by defeating Pinxton North End 2-0. Nottinghamshire II were defeated 3-1 by lowly EMTEC with Paul Revill, Stefan Hauss and Sean Brannigan's goals providing the upset and as a result lost the top spot in Division 1. This enabled Crown Inn, Selston, 6-2 victors over Lady Bay, to take over on goal difference. Two goals from Bay's Rob Munroe provided a 2-2 half-time scoreline but a Steven Froggett hat-trick, a double from Sam Brewster and the best goal of the lot from Carl Goodley crowned victory for Selston. Acorn Athletic now trail the top two by just two points following their 4-1 defeat of West Bridgford United who conceded a double to Scott Allen as well as goals to Marek Smith and James Robinson. Radcliffe Olympic III pipped Old Elizabethans II 3-2 after leading 2-0 at half-time. Mick Godwin's double for Olympic and Andy McCann's goal were answered by Mark Jewsbury and a 50 yard wind assisted strike from Danny Whiting. Calverton Miners Welfare 'A' were restricted to a solitary Jimmy Stevenson goal with Wollaton IV replying with three to leave their opponents seven goals adrift at the bottom of the table whilst a goal from Ben Perry was all that Derbyshire Amateurs II found as a reply to four from Eaton hall College.Away from league action Bassingfield booked their place in the Notts FA Minor Cup Final when Kyle Young's hat-trick put paid to Beeston AFC II's chances after they found just a solitary James Owen reply in a 3-1 scoreline. Broadmeadow now head Division 2 following their 5-2 defeat of Hickling with Jay Miles netting twice. Previous leaders Southwell Amateurs II were held to a 1-1 draw by Nottinghamshire III with Oliver Berman's goal enabling Southwell to salvage a point and leave the teams still separated by just two points. Nuthall Athletic trail Notts in fourth place only on goal difference after netting six times against Chilwell Vipers who scored twice through Stephen Winsbury and Chris Johnson. Sherwood Colliery's Jordan Bailey enabled his side to share the points with Coronation in a fine game which leaves them in fifth spot with Coronation sixth, still three points adrift. Kirk Hallam Social Club defeated Town Mill 3-1 whilst Ravenshead Rangers were beaten 6-2 by Cambridge Knights. Meanwhile Old Bemrosians and Tibshelf Community swapped places after Danny Binch's two goals were added to by James Kimberley and Ryan Smith to earn Tibshelf a 4-1 victory. Report by Norman Frith

COMBINATION - NEWCASTLE ARMS THROUGH TO FINAL!

Newcastle Arms are the first side through to the League Junior cup final after the got the better of an 8 goal exchange with fellow division two side Munich 79. Although Matt Hibbort scored twice for Munich and Darryl Clayton once it wasn't enough as Lee Priestley 2, James Street, Nathan Todd and Brad Schofield all notched for Newcastle as they won through 53 and must now wait until the 18th March to see if they will face New Inn or Basford United in the final on wed 8th April at Carlton Town FC. Although Greyfriars Celtic could only manage a 2 all home draw with mid table Man in Space it was still enough to send them to the top of the premier division on goal difference over Calverton MW who did not play this weekend. Lee Carter and James Needham bagged a goal apiece for the new leaders who were denied all three points courtesy of a Daniel Holmes double. Gedling United remain only a point behind the top two after Kev Walker, Lauren Young, Mark Nixon and a 25 yard screamer from Justin Jukes his first for 2 seasons enabled them to a 4-0 win over Wellington Inn. A Robert Kent strike set Sporting Wheelbarrow on their way to a 4-2 home win over Gremio as the bottom two sides battled it out to avoid finishing the season in last place. But despite taking the lead they were pegged back before the interval by Saul Sanders and soon after the turnaround they found themselves trailing when Terry Coates put the visitors ahead direct from a corner. Rob Kent bagged his second to draw Wheelbarrow level before Martin Smith regained their lead for them inside the last 10 minutes. Non-League Football North Ferriby 2 Eastwood Town 2 North Ferriby and Eastwood shared the spoils in an evenly contested game full of incidents. With Paul Robinson suspended, Paul Cox opted to move Russell Cooke into his preferred position of centre back and start with the new boys Chris Flynn and Ben Chapman as fullbacks. Midweek hero Marc Smith started, with the Badgers record signing Danny Holland again on the bench. The Badgers were out the blocks quicker than a rabbit during mating season. Meikle was fouled on the edge of the box and Dunning's free kick was headed over by Hume. An uncharacteristic mistake by Redmond almost gifted North Ferriby the opening goal, only catching the ball at the second attempt from a dangerous corner. Smith header on a long free kick which Holmes put over the bar but the flag was up as the Badgers looked to build up a head of steam. They didn't have too long to wait for the opening goal, on the 4th minute Chapman took a short through to Dunning before slipping it through to Todd. His precise cross was headed firmly into the goal by the towering Marc Smith to give him two in the last two games. Redmond was still enduring a shaky start, as his poor punch fell to Russell Fry who switched it to Danny Moore to fire it behind for a goal kick. The Badgers doubled their advantage in the 15th minute, Hume's long ball out to Meikle on the wing was Headed by Kevin Larvin straight to Richard Dunning. His shot fell nicely for Ian Holmes however Paul Foot bundled him over as he was about to shoot and the referee pointed to the spot. Holmes stepped up confidently to tuck away his 23rd goal of the season and 5th against Ferriby this season. Holmes fired over after Smith had chested the ball down, and Foot was lucky after Holmes crossed from the by line when his attempted clearance fell to Russell Fry and not one of the numerous attacking Badgers. At the other end, Ferriby were causing the Eastwood defence untold grief with their set piece play. After Hume conceded a free kick just outside the Eastwood box Russell Fry gleefully stepped up to hammer the ball past Redmond, who was unsighted by the wall. Things were to go from bad to worse as Larvin was bundled over by Meikle at the side of the Eastwood box. This time a poor free kick should have been easily cleared by Dunning but he presented the ball to ex Ilkeston midfielder Colin Hunter who blasted the ball home from 25 yards. Steve Wilson in the Ferriby goal saved Dunning's free kick which he bent around the wall, as half time approached and Colin Hunter blazed a free kick over the bar after Hume was adjudged to have impeded Fry. On 55 minutes the Badgers had a good shout for a penalty when the ball struck Ricky Fosters arm. With the referee waving play on, Dunning switched the ball out to Meikle whose cross was met firmly by Smith but his header lacked direction. The game was mainly being played out in midfield with chances being few and far between. Danny Moore however fired over after good period of possession and Ben Chapman did well to get his body in front of a fierce Russell Fry free kick. Cooke had to be alert to stop Fry and Callum Russell from putting Ferriby in front and Redmond caught a good strike from Colin Hunter. Paul Cox shuffled his pack on 75 minutes replacing the strikers Smith and Holmes for Matt Rhead and Danny Holland and the change had the desired effect as the Badgers finished the stronger of the two teams. Todd delivered a good cross which Ricky Foster cleared but as the ball was returned into the box Holland was close to shooting on the turn as the Badgers upped the urgency. Todd's next inviting delivery saw Holland get in Rhead's way in a dangerous position, with the ball going out for a goal kick. Hume headed Dunning's corner over the bar and Foster diverted Todd's goal bound shot for a corner. From the resultant corner Hume's header was cleared off the line by David Cooke on the post. Hume again had another header from a corner cleared off the line by Kevin Larvin with Holland only inches away from netting the loose ball. From a dangerous Dunning free kick Steve Wilson did well to scoop Matt Rhead's header which was dropping under the crossbar. Hume headed over as the Badgers were desperately searching for the winner. Paul Foot the Ferriby captain did well under pressure to deflect Holland's shot for a corner.

with Dave Issott replacing the unavailable Craig Roche in midfield. The Blues had the brighter start, and had a chance to score after 3 minutes, when a good one-two between Chris Self and Matt Roche, ended with the latter having his shot fumbled, but eventually held by the keeper. Newark's pressure forced the home side into a series of errors and although chances were few and far between initially, Newark looked the more comfortable on the ball. Despite Town's dominance, Southwell had an opportunity themselves on 11 minutes, with Porter's shot across the area going narrowly wide of the post. Town kept battling though, and had two chances to score within a minute, with Steve Carty and Dave Issott both hitting shots wide from just outside the area. Mark Blant's tussle with Southwell player manager Mark Nangle was a feature of the opening quarter, with honours about even. Newark's first goal on 27 minutes was of the highest quality, Issott's superb 30 yard cross field ball found Self on the right and his inch perfect cross was volleyed sweetly past Parker. Southwell searched for an equaliser, and almost got it on 34 minutes, but Chris Riley did just enough to deny Atkins. The Blues broke, and Matt Roche had a one on one chance with Parker, but the ball ran just too far, and he suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury, as he attempted to get a touch on the loose ball. Simon Ellison replaced him, and the striker bagged himself a goal on the stroke of half time, when his brother Mark cut the ball back to him from the edge of the area, and he duly fired the ball into the roof of the net. The second half started slowly, with neither side able to retain the ball for long periods. The few chances at the beginning of the half were Southwell's, with Nangle's shot just clearing the angle of post and bar, while Severn had a free kick comfortably held by Riley. Town began to put the pressure on again around the hour mark, Carty having a shot blocked on the line by Crofts. On 69 minutes, the Blues should have increased their lead when Simon Ellison muscled himself into a good position in the penalty area. His shot was saved by Parker, but his parry went straight into the path of Issott, who ballooned his shot over the bar from 5 yards out. Town finally made it three on 72 minutes when Issott's cross from the left was headed low into the corner of the net by Self. Southwell were restricted mainly to long range efforts in the second half, with most of them going high over the bar. This pays tribute to another good defensive display by the Blues back four, with Gareth Dobb and Mark Blant looking more comfortable as a pair with every match they play. Nangle could have grabbed a consolation for the home side on 88 minutes, but Riley dived bravely at his feet to keep his clean sheet.

Blidworth Welfare 0 Harworth CI 2 In a match with very few clear cut chances, it was Harworth who managed to take their opportunities and come away from the match with all 3 points. Goals early on, either side of half time resulted in Harworth winning 20 and moved them to the top of the division. Harworth almost took a first minute lead when star striker and top goal scorer, Ryan Paczkowski ran down the left wing, cut back inside, and hit a low drive, however, the Blidworth goalkeeper, Jamie Davies managed to get down well and save. Blidworth then applied some pressure of their own, with a long goal kick, the ball bounced awkwardly over the Harworth centre back, Michael Nugent and the Blidworth striker Danny Gee pounced and put the ball on his favoured right foot, however, his low shot was well saved by Steve Wibberley. From the resulting corner, a good ball into the box was flicked across goal by Captain James Tagg but no-one was able to get on the end of it. Against the run of play, Harworth then took the lead after 8 minutes. Billy Humphries collected the ball 25 yards out, looked up and saw the run of Paczkowski and floated the ball for him to run onto. He then cut his run across the path of Tagg and hit the ball on the half volley over the helpless Davies. Blidworth almost got an immediate reply when a long throw was put into the box and was knocked down to Gee, but his volley was dragged wide of the post. With half an hour played, and very few chances for either side so far, Harworth almost doubled their lead. A great run Southwell City 0 from Paczkowski, which took him past three players on Newark Town 3 the right wing, with some lovely trickery, he then played a Newark cruised to a comfortable victory against local rivals short ball across the edge of the box for Humphries to run Southwell City at a windy War Memorial ground. Town onto, but his shot went high and wide. From the resulting made one change from the 3-0 victory over Sutton Town goal kick, a poor kick from Davies was collected by Dean

Burrows, returning to his former club, but his long range shot was well over. At this point, Harworth were dominating the match, but with so few chances for either side, Blidworth were easily still in the match. With halftime in sight, Blidworth began to step up their game. Michael Bollington ran with the ball down the left wing and delivered a cross to Jamie Senior at the near post. A fantastic first touch from the centre midfielder enabled him to play the ball across the 6 yard box, but no-one was close enough to get on the end of the pass and it was cleared away from danger. Straight after half time, it was Blidworth who came out the more positive of the two sides, and were managing to play some very attractive football. After a twenty passing move, a cross into the box was collected by Liam Best, who then laid the ball across the edge of the box to Alex Marsh, but his shot was well over. With 50 minutes gone, Harworth doubled their lead with a fantastic goal from Paczkowski. A long diagonal ball from the left back position to Paczkowski's run on the right wing was collected well with a brilliant first touch. The League's top goal scorer then faked to go inside but actually continued his run down the edge of the box and drove the ball hard and low across the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. At this point, both managers made substitutions, for Harworth, Shay Dunning was replaced by Tom Cooke and for Blidworth, Marsh was replaced by Lee Buckland. The second half did not see many more clear cut chances, either. A good passing move from Blidworth from left to right ended with Tom Robley and Lee Easom challenging Wibberley but his punch clear saved Harworth. Harrowby Utd 0 Pinxton 2 Pinxton fc traveled to “The Arrows” expecting to travel home with all three points and weren't disappointed, Pinxton dominated the game for very long periods and never looked like leaving Dickens rd empty handed, and in fact the score line flattered the home side with chance after chance being saved by Harrowby's heroic Keeper Chris Bennett. Pinxton's defense didn't have much to do for most of the game but stand in keeper Wayne Cook saved Pinxton's blushes after a opportunist 40 yard lob come shot was tipped over the cross bar at the start of the game. Jamie Renshaw the Pinxton skipper lead from the back with Steven Darcy by his side in the centre, Josh Parker and Adam Robinson right and left backs respectively made up the back four and just looked far too strong for any Harrowby attack. Arron Gordon and Frazer Thomas in the middle of the park worked hard to dominate the midfield battle, Joe Riley and Kieran Debrouwer on the wings just caused havoc to the Harrowby rear guard creating chance after chance for Jay Cooper and Ben Bacon. Pinxton's opening goal came just before the half hour when a 30 yard through ball from Jamie Reshaw found Jay Cooper in the Harrowby 18 yard box; Cooper collected the ball with his chest and with his second touch laid the ball to Ben Bacon to slide the ball into the bottom left hand corner from 10 yard leaving the keeper with no chance. Pinxton's second was a beauty from Pinxton man of the match Joe Riley on 55, Riley collected the ball on the right just in the oppositions half, ran at the defender; cut inside, composed himself for the shot, then unleashed an unstoppable shot worthy of Manchester utd's Paul Scholes, the ball flew into the top left hand corner from all of 27 yard. The poor Harrowby keeper who worked his socks off, and did nothing wrong through out the game did well to keep the score down to two goals, but you just don't stop shots like Pinxton two goals on the day.

NOTTS OPEN PREMIER POOL LEAGUE - NOTTINGHAM HAVE A SHOCKER AGAINST LEICESTER! KO Cup Semi-Finals Spot On One 4-5 Park Tavern A Greyhound 3-5 Maters KO Plate Semi-Finals Sheriff SC 1-5 Sherwood SC Sun Valley A 5-2 Friar Tuck Premier 1 Spot On One 7-5 Masters Ponda Rileys 6-6 Cherry Tree

Cup For the first time NOPPL changed venue for semi finals night and all 4 matches were contested at the Spot On club in Sneinton. First out of the hat were new Premier 1 champions Spot On One and they were paired against Steve Hill's Park Tavern A. The Tav got off to a dream start with James Hill beating Steve Hobster and Dave Atherley edging out Wayne Parsonage, though both games could have gone the other way. Liam Stanley fresh from the European championships with England and buoyed by his being retained in the international squad, was paired against the in-form Andy Hind. Before the knife had time to settle into his game the cleaver skewered the Tav into a 3-0 lead. After Chris Rigby took out fellow pro tour player Steve Hotchkiss for 4-0 it looked all over. Then in true Rocky style but without the theme tune, the comeback was on. Jed Eaton 8-balled John Harvey and a brilliant clearance by Dean Howitt's brother pulled it back to 4-2 by seeing off averages leader John McMahon. Lee Pickard then picked off Leon Hill and an out of form Neil Jones fell to the quick fire pool of Ant McMahon, 4-4. All other matches had by now finished despite a 15 minute interruption from a floodlight failure on all the other tables so most players turned their attention to the County battle with Notts Manager John Brinkworth paired against Notts 'A' captain Pat Kelley. With so much on it this the game turned into a tactical battle and when Kelley left a window open and a relieved Steve Hill saw his regular first leg player mop up and sink the black to inflict the first defeat of the season on the champions. PTA 5 Spot On One 4. In the other cup semi, Masters drew Premier 2 side The Greyhound. The match turned out to be a lot tighter than predicted as S. Colledge, S. Blower and Simon Wilson picked up the even legs for the Greyhound after Jay Ward, Bill Rigby and Danny Butler had put Masters ahead each time on the odd legs, 3-3. A shock could have been on the cards, but England youth player Ashley Radford and County B's Neil Kelley took the last 2 and booked a final place on April 10th. Plate In the battle of the social clubs, Sheriff were drawn against Sherwood in the plate semi and it was Sherwood SC who stormed into a 4-0 lead with wins by three members of the Scarborough family and an 8 ball clearance by Russ Slater. S Gordon pulled on back for Sheriff but it was too little too late as A Renshaw took the sixth leg. 5-1 to Sherwood. Sun Valley A met Friar Tuck in the other all Prem 2 battle and P Iremonger saw off B Walker to give the Tuck the lead. I.Woodford, Gordon Carnell and Mark Peel took the next three for SVA, then N.Gray pulled it back to 3-2. M Featherstone and P Sims then went on to wrap up the match for Sun Valley A and book their place in the final 5-2. Premier 1 League matches Two postponed matches were completed during Cup week with the significant match being top of the table clash Spot On One versus Masters. Champions elect stormed into a 5-0 lead before

The Railway Inn

To advertise call 0115 9656366 masters pulled one back but Lee Pickard's 8-ball put Spot on the verge of the title. Masters didn't give up though and pulled it back to 6-4 before Steve Hotchkiss took the all important leg and secured the title for the first time in three seasons for Liam Stanley's boys. In the only Premier One fixture on cup semi final night, 4th placed Ponda-Rileys entertained relegation-haunted Cherry Tree Models. County player Greg Crowson gave a fore-taste of what was to come during this re-arranged fixture dragging out the first frame for his tardy team mates, unfortunately for Greg, Malc Marriot has been grinding games out since before he was born; in fact before most people were born. The match swung pendulumlike with almost every frame early doors; Rileys eventually took a 3-2 lead when Matt Tugby cleared superbly after Glen Yates's inoff the break, only for Tree to take the next 3 legs. Part-time nail and hair models Wyatt and Yates beat Kurdish and the returning Chris Taylor in the pairs. Then the Blackshaw sisters Corey and Gaz disposed of Curtis Bradley and Andy Leese for Tree to lead 3-5. Mark 'Tandoori' Taylor and Dale Mayes took the next pairs with a world class finish from Tandoori. Dale returned to level the scores at 5-5 against Brian 'Mighty' Robinson. Tandoori missed an easy shot for an 8-baller to let Tree Captain Ian 'Body' Owen in, but Gaz Sherwood won the captain's leg for Rileys against Tony Wyatt in the final frame to level the match once again and share the spoils at 6-6.

W. 4-5 Arnold Liberal Club Spot On B, although fielding a depleted team, continued their 2009 title winning campaign with a straightforward win at Ex Service Club. Just how short they were was highlighted by Supersub Harper getting a second successive game for the first time since 2005 and he took full advantage of his selection by getting his team off to a winning start, thus cementing his place for next week's game against the Vol. Also in the team for next week walked Des Dymock, who's win already gives him nearly as many victories this season as the whole of last and it could now prove to be a close run thing between himself and Lee Shaw for their team averages wooden spoon battle this year. Sadly for Spot On, no shows by Danny Butler and Donut Radford and defeats for Simon Thompson, Nidge Orton and Malc Grocock in the doubles means they're all inevitably axed from Mac's line-up for their forthcoming game. Next week's opposition captain, Trev Chambers offered a quote on the subject, “Tony's tough but he's fair when it comes to captaincy and his selection policy obviously backs this up. You've got to admire the stand he's taking and the strong leadership message it sends to the rest of the team.” Meanwhile at the Eagle, the Guinness Book Of World Records official representative, who has decided to attend their every game until the losing run comes to an end, added consecutive loss number thirteen to his ever burgeoning notepad. “Three more defeats to beat the Benidorm '83 boys and claim the all time world pool record,” he excitedly commented after their drubbing by new league leaders and now fourth favourites for the title, Victory Club. 8-ballers by still looks 17, Matt Fell and never looked 17, Lee Grant went a long way to securing the easy and expected win.

Balfour Club and Cherry Tree A fought out a scrappy draw to virtually hand the title on a plate to Spot On B, although ex Balfour captain, Alan Gregory, was more than happy to see former teammate Chris Whittaker move to bottom of the league averages after yet another embarrassing defeat, this time to his long time protégé, Johnny Bradbury. Hotdog was heard to say on the night, “If he'd stayed with us I'd have made him a superstar. I was even thinking of putting him forward for the Interleague team, but now look at him, we're better off with Kevin Bacon!” In Division Two, veteran, Keith Simm actually won a game to keep his Arnold Liberal Club team in with a chance of relegation from the first division next season after they came out on top of a close battle at Calverton Miners Welfare. The game saw Top Club's Ken Widdowson lose yet again, although this time at least it was not to a girl and it was in the doubles so he could always blame his partner Elsewhere in the Blue Square, Royal Oak moved top with a thrashing of now bottom, Cherry Tree B, where Andy “Behind The Bar” Hayes continued his quest for back to back bottom of the averages titles with yet another defeat and The Longbow opened their campaign with a shock defeat to big Sam's Carlton Liberal Club, where County Junior, Ben Sansom's loss, will give the aforementioned bar manager sleepless nights over his attempts at infamy.

With 3 of the top 5 league leaders on 4 games left and the others on 3 its still anybody's title as the season finale approaches. Commercial hold the league on legs and a game in hand as they all table up to each other over the next four weeks, should prove a gripping climax. Jaguar are in strong contention of the div B title of division B with just having to win against Sherwin this week to clinch it, but, knowing Sherwin, that wont be an easy task. A battle for either winners, if Jag lose, or runners up slot is between Cricks A and Hillside with the Hillside being a game in hand. Division C has Nook and Pelican battling it out in the promotion zone with just one match left this week and a 2 leg difference separating them. Riverside could well upset the applecart with a good win that could push both Nook and Pelican A's noses right out of the occasion. Remember that this week is your very last chance to get your team in for the great “All Day Pool KO” taking place at the Pelican on the 29th March. £20

Wayne Martin reduced the deficit to 47 points with a good win over Neil Jones but Clint I'Anson effectively ended BCI's hopes with a 93-36 win against Jon Mason which put Beeston 114 points in front including their +10 point handicap. The pairing of Martin and Sam Haugh took on Jones and I'Anson hoping for a miracle. Sadly it failed to materialise and the frame was conceded with 5 reds gone and the Beeston pair 17 points in front.

Arnold Civil Defence “A” struggled to find the form they are capable of as they crashed out to second division leaders Sherwood Social Club. At Arnold, Chris Winter beat Gareth Evans, Gary Spencer beat Paul Bell and James Notman beat Mick Salton. Winter and Spencer then went on to beat Evans and Les Smith in the pairs however all the frames were very close which was no good for Arnold as they were conceding 80 points start to Sherwood. At Sherwood, Malc Belshaw beat Lee Crombie but Brian Kinton and John Fountain both lost heavily. In the pairs Belshaw and Fountain beat Crombie and Scarborough but it wasn't enough to avoid defeat. KNOCKOUT PLATE SEMI-FINALS Mapperley Community Centre received 120 points start against The Peoples Hall but it wasn't enough to prevent the Heathcoat Street club winning the match by 108 points. At Mapperley, Chris Wright lost to Nav Hussain 37-62 and Chris Starr lost to Yas Abbas 47-58, however Geoff Merry beat Zed Zubair 64-61. In the pairs, Wright and Merry suffered a heavy 99 point defeat against Hussain and Zubair. The damage was done by Hussain who had breaks of 22 and 67. At Peoples Hall, Zeb Ahmed lost 35-66 to Don Merry but Naser Hussain beat Doug Bough 80-25 and John Marshall beat Andy Carnell 66-32. Hussain and Marshall sealed victory for The Peoples Hall with a 60-22 win against Bough and Carnell. There was a nailbiting finish at Arnold Civil Defence as the club's “B” team defeated Cotgrave Welfare by just 7 points. At Cotgrave, Anthony McMahon beat Alan Cunningham by 15 points and Harry Briody beat Stan Candler by 17 points but Andy Nichols reduced Arnold's deficit to just 4 points with a good win against Billy Johnson. The pairing of Briody and John Cyrek then beat Cunningham and Candler by 33 points to give Cotgrave a 37 point lead going into the Arnold leg. At Arnold, Sean Kelly had a great win against Phil Foster 72-29 and Kirk Wesselby defeated Chris King 53-36, giving Arnold an overall 23 point lead. Colin Armstrong restored Cotgrave's lead as he beat Pete Ellins 85-27. Cotgrave now led by 35 points going into the final pairs frame which saw Kelly and Wesselby take on Foster and Armstrong. The Cotgrave pair maintained the lead until Wesselby potted the yellow, green and brown. The blue was sunk and Wesselby played a tremendous cut on the pink to level the scores. He then faced a pressure cut on the black into the corner bag which he nailed to secure Arnold's place in the final. Report by Steve Butler

BEESTON CHILWELL & DISTRICT DARTS CHEQUERS DEFEAT BIRCHOVER! LADIES INDEPENDENT: Just when I thought it impossible for the pace to get even hotter at the top of the league it boils over as Birchover squared up to close rivals the Chequers on home soil and double trouble forced them into an immediate 3-0 deficit, but these gals knew all was at stake and fought back brilliantly to level the match to 3-3 All three of the Birchover 'pull back' gals played blinders of a game, all under pressure, with the lowest being a 100+ in front as she finished. Lady of the match had to be Rachel Webster who hit her double leaving her opponent still wanting 200+. Yet again the pressure was faced as both sides threw for doubles before the Chequers finally took the match 4-3 with a double one. League leaders, Boat & Horses faced a similar dilemma against the Hop Pole as they went 2-0 down at the start but made their comeback levelling the match 2-2. But the Hop Pole proved the stronger side on the night with their finishes as double trouble caused the Boat & Horses to lose the next two legs despite being on a finish first. B & H did manage to pull a leg back in the last but double trouble cost them dearly as Hop Pole took the game 4-3. The top slot is still wide open as the

last legs are played over the next two weeks with Birchover having a game in hand. Pelican are also a game in hand and can still cause a lot of trouble as they attempt a final dash at the top. MEN'S: Into the final of the Men's league Cup are Queens and Boat & Horses. The same two teams got through into the Jubilee Cup Final also with the Queens mainly thanks to the only Maximum checkout across the league this season with a staggering 170 from Landlord Wayne Hayes. With just 2 matches left in Div A its cut and dry for Boat &Horses A, who take the league championship. Birchover's dismal turnout of players' last match against Queens totally forced them out of the running. Div B has a two horse race between the Chequers and the Nook with just 2 points separating them as they square up to a face off in the last match in three weeks time.

NOTTINGHAM CENTRAL DARTS - ! LADIES: With just 4 matches left the Pride are looking to hang on to their advantage with no fewer than 3 teams snapping at heel all of them a level 6 points behind with 8 points for the taking and a possible 10 for Strelley who have a game in hand. Pride face a tough battle as they have to square up to at least two of their close rivals over the next four weeks. Although Tavern and Nuthall seem

Darts Tables to be dominating div B there is still scope for Sun Valley and Chase to make those arrows count. MIXED: No matches this week as the Pairs quarters 1 took place with P & J Boyd (Camb), A. Woodward & P. 2 Glancy (Camb), R. Flintoff & D. Alls (Camb) and J. 3 4 Wheeldon & R. Bloomfield (Madhouse) all through to 5 the semis. 6 MEN'S: Again almost a 2 horse race in the 7 championships between Queens and Beechdale but 8 the Park Tavern are determined to give the duo a run as they take down the Queens in a brilliant 6-3 victory showing grit as they face the last 4 matches. Div B still has the top three battling as Madhouse take the 1 advantage of Birchover's Bye to slide into second, but 2 3 Birchover still have that game in hand advantage. 4 Report by Paul Lacey 5

TOP FLIGHT ICE HOCKEY fun for everyone at the Trent FM Arena

The louder you roar... the bigger the score! The Steelers get more than they bargained for! GMB Panthers 4 Sheffield Steelers 2 A crowd of over seven thousand witnessed a fabulous game on Saturday night. After the tribute to Dave Page the action started at a blistering pace which was maintained from start to finish. Johan Molin's goal seperated the sides at the first break. Steelers were at full strength, Nottingham were still missing Matthew Myers, Dan Tessier and David Clarke. Jimmy Ferrara's tip in from Ed Hill doubled the lead but Steve Munn squeezed one back. On the powerplay Johan Molin restored the two goal cusion at 32.45 and Brendan Cook squeezed one home on his own rebound for a 4-1 scoreline at 46.39. With six and half minutes to go Steelers captain Phillips tried to get something going but came up short in a scrap with Corey Neilson. At the next face-off Sharp was sent on for his only shift of the game but Ityorumun Ndur was in no mood to let things slip and they too picked up five minute fighting penalties. Cruickshank's tip in, in the 57th minute, proved no more than a consolation and the 4-2 final scoreline meant Sheffield may be 'Number One' over the season but they were 'Number Two' on an emotional night in Nottingham. Elsewhere Edinburgh opened up a three point gap on Hull in the last play-off spot. Capitals beat Newcastle (9-2) while Stingrays went down to a late goal flurry at home to Manchester (1-6). Meanwhile Coventry's win at Basingstoke (2-4) means Sheffield are still two wins away (mathematically) from the title.

You damn fool - stay off my Ice!! Basingstoke Bison 2 GMB Panthers 7 GMB Panthers followed up Saturday's home win with a 27 success at Basingstoke on Sunday. Bison's 23rd loss in a row. Two goals each for Marc Levers, Bruce Richardson and Mark Richardson plus a further strike from coach Corey Neilson wrapped up a comfortable victory, backstopped by Geoff Woolhouse in nets. Coach said afterwards : "Geoff had a good game for us and his opposite number Reiter was outstanding again for the Bison. There weren't many people in the building and we had a low spell in the second, I think the lack of atmosphere got to the guys but I reminded them of their responsibilities in the second break and the third period was back to normal service." SHEFFIELD STEELERS ARE THIS SEASON'S bmibaby ELITE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS. They came-from-behind win at Newcastle on Sunday (1-4) coupled with Coventry's loss at home to Hull by the same scoreline means the Steelers cannot be caught. Elsewhere Edinburgh had a four point haul on the weekend, winning on Sunday at Cardiff (3-4) and it's all to play for in the second leg of the Challenge Cup Final, the first leg took place in Altrincham Sunday night and ended with a one goal advantage for Manchester over Belfast (4-3). Corky looks in amazement at Dan’s ball handling Pilgrim made the final break, and would have scored but for an ankle tap, but Corcoran was up Nottingham 95 in support and took the ball on to crash over the line, with Taylor again adding the conversion for a Otley 5 14-nil lead inside eight minutes. Perhaps it was a lapse in concentration but Otley's first attack brought them what proved to be their only score, although at the time the worry was that that may not be the case such was the ease with which which they cut through to create a two on one overlap down the right, full back Ian Shuttleworth Thirteen tries tell their own story of this one sided game crossing the line. But Nottingham were straight as records tumbled all over the place. Otley were back on the attack to force a penalty for Taylor to simply no match for the rampant Green and Whites, make it 17-5. And they followed that up with a try who rattled up their biggest win in any competition. for skipper Craig Hammond. Again it was Pilgrim Ashley Elphinston almost scored from the opening who made the break, with Andy Savage switching attack as the forwards drove from the first lineout. He the direction of the attack to send Hammo in, was held up, but Tim Taylor followed up and also went Taylor making it 24-5 with an easy conversion. close before sending the ball out left, where quick Another penalty from Taylor opened up a 22 point hands from Adam Corcoran put Elphinston in to open lead before Savage took a perfectly timed pass the scoring. Taylor added the conversion for a 7-nil from Tim Molenaar to secure the bonus point on lead. The next attack brought a second try. Chris the stroke of half time. Taylor's conversion made it 34-5 at the break. Two tries in quick succession from Rohaan Nirmalendran at the start of the second half came in almost identical circumstances. First it was prop Robbie

How many points was that again!? Harris who broke out of defence before drawing the last defender and sending Rohaan clear. Minutes later Molenaar was the provider and with Taylor on target with both conversions the Green and Whites were heading for the fifty point mark. They passed that landmark as Dan Montagu crossed twice in the space of four minutes, Taylor having a field day with the boot to make it 62-5 with two more conversions. As if he hadn't done enough Taylor then broke through for a touch down to cap his Man-of-the-Match performance and, you guessed it, finished it off with the conversion. David Jackson then broke through, and took over the kicking duties to make it 76-5, followed a minutes later by a clever piece of wrong-footing from replacement Jack Cobden, with Jacko again converting to make it 81-5. As the record books were brushed down Ian Nimmo capped another very impressive performance with a try, again converted by Jacko, before the skipper rounded off the scoring, Jacko slotting over the final conversion of the day to make it 95-5. The crowd bayed for the ton, and many a memory went back to a certain game at Coundon Road involving a nail and the scoreboard, but it wasn't to be. And all things considered, that was probably a good thing.

Name: Neil Fowkes Team: Nottingham Rugby Nickname: Fowkesy or Dr Fox Age: 28 Job: Lecturer and Rugby Coach at South Nottingham College Position: Loose Head Prop Previous clubs: None Supports: Nottingham Forest Rugby hero: Sean Fitzpatrick. I know he's a kiwi but he was awesome for the All Blacks and a real inspiration. Biggest influence: None Best sporting moment: Watching England win the Rugby World Cup Final in 20003 with a house full of Kiwi's is probably my best sporting moment. The bitterness was unreal! Funniest rugby memory: Watching Joe Duffey run half the length of the pitch at Esher to score a try, making his point to the Esher crowd as he did it! Worst rugby memory: Standing on the pitch at Stourbridge waiting half an hour for the result from another game to see if we were safe from relegation from division 2. It turned out well though. We stayed up by points difference! Best trainer: Craig Hammond the skipper always trains hard and sets the standard for the boys. Worst trainer: Andrea "silky" Savage is proably one of the worst trainers. The less he does the better he seems to play! Worst haircut: Hammo (Craig Hammond) has had some pretty bad styles in his time, including a David Hasselhoff perm! Jacko (David Jackson) had a great mullet for a time. But I think I will go with Monty (Daniel Montagu) and Morlo (Lee Morley) for their

peroxide blonde efforts earlier this year! Worst dressed: Definitely Monty. He has some strange ideas about fashion. Team jokers: Tim Ussaz is probably the biggest joker in the team. He is always the first one on the mic with a story on the way back from away games. They're usually about Monty! Pre-match ritual: I have to fold my socks over so they match perfectlyand all the logos match up! Toughest opponent: Probably the whole Viadna pack from 2001. We played them on a pre-season tour to Italy and the game was probably the toughest physicaly I had ever played at 20 years old. Best team played against: Bristol in our first year of Divison 1. They seemed to be playing a different game from us! We got our first point of the season against them though! Albeit a losing bonus point.
