# El Barrio Gótico comprende lo que antiguamente
se llamaba barrio de la catedral. Aquí se encuentran los grandes edificios góticos que señalan el apogeo de la ciudad y su cultura en la Edad Media. También se conservan los restos de las antiguas fortificaciones y palacios que fundaron los romanos sobre el Mons Taber, como el templo dedicado a Augusto y las murallas. Nuestro itinerario empieza en la Plaça Nova. 1 # Portal del Bisbe Flanqueado por dos torres cilíndricas de la antigua muralla romana, al lado del actual Palacio Episcopal. 2 # Palacio Episcopal Calle del Bisbe Irurita. Edificado a finales del siglo XII y principios del XIII. 3 # Plaça de Sant Felip Neri (Pasado el Palacio Episcopal a la derecha). Uno de los rincones más poéticos de la ciudad. 4 # Casa del Arcediano o casa de l´Ardiaca Carrer de Santa Llúcia. Fue levantada sobre las murallas romanas, como residencia, en el siglo XV, del arcediano de la catedral. Es notable el patio tipo claustro, que centra una fuente gótica. 5 # Interior de la catedral Tres naves de crucero y veintinueve capillas laterales, en una de las cuales, la del Santísimo, se venera el Cristo de Lepanto. Es de admirar: El coro de tallas medievales y renacentistas, el Altar Mayor y la cripta de Santa Eulalia. 6 # Claustros de la catedral Bellísimo jardín central de palmeras y magnolias. Interesantes verjas de hierro forjado. 7 # Puerta de la Piedad Acceso al claustro de la catedral. En el tímpano destaca una Piedad labrada en madera, de escuela flamenca. 8 # Casa de los Canónigos o dels Canonges Edificio gótico del siglo XIV, restaurado. Un paso superior cruza la calle del Bisbe Irurita. 9 # Centre Excursionista de Catalunya Carrer Paradís,10. En su interior se conservan las columnas romanas que pertenecieron al templo dedicado a Augusto.

The great gothic buildings which marked the high point of the city and its culture during the Middle Ages are to be found here. Here Likewise, are the remains of the ancient fortified walls and palaces built by the Romans on the “Mons Taber” such as, the temple dedicatet to Augustus. The cloister- type patio with is gothic fountain is noteworthy. 5 » Interior of the Cathedral Three cruciform aisles and twenty- nine lateral chapels in one of which Cristo de Lepanto is venerated. Noteworthy: The choirstall which features both medieval and rennaissance elements.

It a square outlined by gothic buildings toped by the facade of the former main Royal Palace and its watchtower- a true skycraper for the 16th Century. 14 » Casa Clariana-Padellas Houses the “Museu d´Història de la Ciutat” (See Museums). 15 » Palau de Lloctinent Ghotic building embellished with rennaissance elements. Construcción de hierro que alberga uno de los mercados de alimentación más típicos y tradicionales. 6 # Pla de la Boqueria. Recibe este nombre el llano comprendido entre la calle Hospital y la calle de la Boquería. En el suelo hay un pavimento de Joan Miró. 7 # Gran Teatro del Liceo. Es uno de los edificios emblemáticos de la Rambla. Inagurado en 1847, se ha convertido en uno de los primeros escenarios líricos del mundo. 8 # Palau Güell. (Carrer Nou de la Rambla, 3) Obra de Antonio Gaudí, construida como residencia en Barcelona del conde Güell. 9 # Plaça Reial. Plaza porticada en edificios uniformes. Fuente de hierro en el centro. Las farolas son obra de Gaudí. 10 # Museo de Cera. Edificio construido en 1867 forma parte del Patrimonio Arquitectónico Nacional. 11 # Reials Drassanes. The “Eixample”, which is divided into two by the Rambla de Catalunya, is of greatest interesnt from the point of view of “Modernism”on the right and it is there that we have routed our itinerary. Gaudí
Antoni Gaudí Cornet # Nació en Reus, en el 1852. Realizó los estudios de arquitectura en la Escuela Provincial de Arquitectura de Barcelona. Antes de finalizar sus estudios, Gaudí colabora con el arquitecto Josep Fontseré en el proyecto del Parque de la Ciudadela. En 1878 gana por concurso la realización de un proyecto de farolas para la Plaça Reial de Barcelona, existentes en la actualidad. Entre 1883 y 1926, Gaudí deja a esta ciudad una muestra de obras de muy distinta índole. ›› Was born in Reus in 1852. He studied architecture in Barcelona Provincial School of Architecture. Before finishing his studies he collaborated with Josep Fontseré, architect, in the Citadella Park project. In 1878 he won a contest to carry out a street lights project for Barcelona´s Plaza Real. Those street ligths still exist. Between 1883 and 1926 Gaudí left in Barcelona a sample of ten different and varied works.

Se trata de una zona de 20 hectáreas, cuyo objetivo inicial era convertirla en una ciudad -jardín al estilo inglés. En el interior del parque se encuentra la Casa-Museo , donde vivió Gaudí antes de trasladarse a la Sagrada Familia. Cabe destacar el banco ondulado del “trencadís” en el que hizo sentar a un obrero para tomar las medidas y proyectarlo. ›› This is Gaudi´s largest work in Barcelona. he Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO, is considered one of the foremost works of Modernisme, the Catalan Art Nouveau. Designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, this singular complex of buildings and gardens was home to the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau for almost one hundred years.

Ski mountaineering has a growing number of fans as it does not require prepared or signposted areas, whether for going uo or coming down a peak, a crossing or simply a pleasant trip out. Grandvalira está situada en el norte del Principado de Andorra, en la zona fronteriza con Francia. El espacio que ocupa pertenece a dos de las siete parroquias andorranas (Encamp y Canillo) y está formado por seis sectores que se unieron en un solo dominio hace ya 13 años: Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo y Encamp.

Durante la temporada 20162017, Grandvalira celebrará, por segunda vez, la séptima edición de la Skiers Cup. En marzo el Freeride Junior World Championships, y también llegará el Total Fight Masters of Freestyle, con dos pruebas: una de snowboard y otra de freeski. Por último, en abril se celebrarán los Campeonatos del Mundo de Kilómetro Lanzado. Grandvalira tendrá el privilegio de acoger, en el año 2019, las pruebas finales de la Copa del Mundo de esquí alpino, un reconocimiento que llega después de los éxitos conseguidos durante los años 2012 y 2016 con la organización de sendas Copas del Mundo de esquí alpino femenino.
With its 210 kilometers of skiable slopes and 128 pistes, catering for all levels of ability, Grandvalira is the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees and the whole of southern Europe. Furthermore, it also offers a wide range of restaurants and leisure activities and regularly hosts top-level international competitions. Grandvalira is located in the northern part of the Principality of Andorra, next to the border with France. The resort lies within two of Andorra’s parishes (Encamp and Canillo) and is made up of six different areas (Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, and Encamp), which were joined together to make one single territory some 13 years ago. During the season 2016-2017, Grandvalira will celebrate, for the second time, the seventh Skiers Cup edition. In March, the Freeride Junior World Championships will take place and later on the Total Fight Masters of Freestlyle, with both a snowboard and a freeski event. Finally, in April the World Championships of the Flying Kilometre will take place. Grandvalira will have the privilege to receive, in the year 2019, the final trials of the Alpine Ski World Cup, a recognition arriving after the success achieved during the years 2012 and 2016 with the organisation of both World Cups of feminine alpine ski.

No se puede visitar Catalunya en estos meses sin probar los calçots. Esta variedad de cebolleta debe su largo tallo blanco a que se va calzando tierra sobre la planta. Luego se hace directamente sin pelar sobre brasas.
You cannot visit Catalonia during these months without trying calçots. This variety of spring onion owes its large white stalk to the fact that soil is packed and repacked onto the plant. After harvested, it is grilled directly without peeling it.
Se consumen a mano, pelando las partes quemadas externas. Acceder al tierno y sabroso corazón es relativamente fácil presionando con las yemas de los dedos en su base y extrayendo su interior tirando con los dedos de la otra mano.
The onions are eaten by hand by peeling off the outer burned parts. It is relatively easy to reach the tender, flavourful heart of the onion by pressing at the base with your fingertips and drawing out the insides by pulling with the fingers of the other hand.
Luego se van mojando en la salsa de calçots y se ingieren tal cual. No se usan cubiertos. Las manos se tiznan y es fácil que algo de salsa acabe en el pecho. Por ello se consumen utilizando un gran babero.
Then you dip the onion into the calçot sauce and eat them. No silverware is used. The hands get black and the sauce will probably drip onto your chest, so a large bib is worn while eating calçots.

which is peculiar because of both the kind of food eaten (literally a “shod” spring onion) and the way it is eaten, with the hands while wearing an enormous bib. The sauce provides a unique touch.
Son muchas las fiestas familiares y populares (calçotadas) que se celebran en el campo y en los pueblos a finales de invierno para degustar los calçots y siempre se rematan con carne y butifarras a la brasa. Existen también muchos restaurantes especializados en ellos, sobre todo en su origen, Valls y la comarca del Alt Camp en Tarragona. Pero también es posible disfrutar de este manjar del campo en plena Barcelona. Many family and popular celebrations of this kind (called calçotadas) are held in the countryside and villages in late winter to savour calçots, and they are always followed by grilled meat and sausage. There are also many restaurants that specialise in calçots, especially in the region where they originated, Valls and the county of Alt Camp in Tarragona. But you can also enjoy this traditional country food in the heart of Barcelona.
¿Qué lleva la salsa? What is the sauce made of? Tomates maduros, una ñora o pimiento choricero, ajos, aceite de oliva, avellanas y pan frito. Se puede hacer con la batidora batiendo todos los ingredientes, Los tomates y ajos se hornean hasta que estén blandos y luego utilizan sus pulpas, así como la pulpa de la ñora previamente remojada. Ripe tomatoes, a ñora (a kind of pepper), garlic, olive oil, hazelnuts and fried bread. It can be made in a blender by blending together all the ingredients. The tomatoes and garlic are baked until soft and then their pulp is used, as well as the pulp of the pepper after first soaking it.
Aunque lo típico y más agradable es degustar los calçots en una masía fuera de Barcelona, también es posible hacerlo en la misma ciudad o en la Serra de Collserola. Even though the most traditional and pleasant way of eating calçots is in a country estate outside of Barcelona, you can also savour them right in the city or Serra de Collserola.
