ON THE COVER The cover image was created by Donna Williams, 2014 BPPA President. The romantic image of Elizabeth and Sean was taken in the butterfly garden at Selby Botanical Gardens. Donna took this image with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera with a 28-135 IS lens, at f/3.5 for 1/400 at 250 ISO. Natural lighting and a tripod was used to produce the sharpness of the image. Donna’s specialties include wedding photography and portrait photography from babies to business.
From the Editor
Ladies and gentlemen,
Thank you for reading this online issue once again. Reating this monthly magazine is a great deal of work that one cannot do alone. I have to say a big thank you to Jennifer Gerardi for assisting me in gathering the material for the newsletter. The President’s Message Hello Everyone! As this is the middle of the year, this is the time to measure what we have accomplished so far this year in both our business and personal lives. Look at the big picture of what you want you envision for your business and as well as your personal life. To accomplish this, you establish goals. Create goals for your business. And create the same kind of personal goals for you. Your goals must be specific. Don’t say you want more photography education. Instead set a goal to attend Florida School. Don’t say you need to run more. Set a personal goal that you will run a marathon. Your goals must be measurable. Don’t say you want to spend more time capturing the outdoors. Instead, set a goal that you will spend one weekend each month capturing points of interest throughout your community. Don’t say you need to spend more with your family. What is more quantifiable is that you set aside each Friday night for family fun night.
set a goal on the amount of money you want to make that year and what you need to do to accomplish that. Don’t say you want to lose 20 pounds. Set a goal to lose 20 pounds by the end of the year. Set priorities for your goals. Make a plan to reach your goals and reward yourself each time you have reached a goal. When you sell a large order, go out to dinner. If you make the amount of money you set out to make for the year, buy a new camera, lens or both! And if you lose those additional 20 pounds, buy yourself a new outfit. Most importantly, write your goals down. If you don’t, you won’t accomplish anything that you set out to do. I look forward to seeing all of you at the next meeting on July 14th. Don’t forget to wear your name badge! Thank you, Donna Williams
Your goals must be attainable. Don’t say you want to photograph the Great Wall of China when you know you will never be able to afford to go there. Set a goal to travel to Arizona and photograph the Grand Canyon. Don’t say you want to travel to Paris to study art when you know that will never happen. More realistically, register at a local college to learn how to paint with water colors. Your goals need to be time related. Don’t say you want to make more money this year than last year. Instead at the beginning of each year 5

After completing internships with various studios, Gary founded Hughes Fioretti Photography in 2008 with his wife and partner, Julie Fioretti, a marriage choice not lost on those who followed his earlier careers. In 2010, he began teaching, traveling around the country, and covering topics from creative capture and sales techniques to growing profits via social media. Those who knew Gary in his janitorial, construction worker and musical days might be a bit surprised by his accolades, but those who know his work are not. His wedding albums have garnered local and national awards, including first place for portrait and multiple entries in the PPA Loan Collection. From 2010-2013, Gary was recognized annually as one of the top 10 photographers in Central Florida. His PPA credentials include Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman, and he currently serves as Past President of the Professional Photographers Society of Central Florida, on the Board of the Florida Professional Photographers and also as a PPA councilor. Icing the cake, Gary was featured in the April 2013 issue of Professional Photographer magazine and was a platform speaker at Imaging USA in 2014.

LF: How long have you been in business, and where do you see your business in five years? - My husband Darrell and I started our first photography business, Always Forever Weddings, ten years ago in 2004. We photographed engagement sessions, weddings and events. In 2008 we changed the name to Always Forever Photography and added beach portraits to our photography specialties. In 2011, we pur10

chased Turner Photography in Venice, Florida. Having a studio provided us with the opportunity to expand even further. In 2013 we folded both companies into one maintaining our company name of Turner Photography. My five year goal is to significantly increase the presence of Turner Photography in the Venice community. Partnering with network groups such as the Venice Chamber of Commerce and BNI will help to achieve this goal. I also want Turner Photography to be known as a company that gives back to the community. Our marketing plan includes providing auction items and organizing and participating in community

The blood drive we are organizing is a start. Events such as this will increase public awareness of our organization. Another idea is to sponsor public events. To be a significant player in the community takes time. It is a long term goal that should be built upon consistently. Aubrey, a senior from North Port High School, wanted to have her senior portraits taken at the beach. For this shot, I told her to turn her head slightly and bring her eyes back to me. It was an extremely windy day. But in this case, it added to her beautiful curly hair. I took this image using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, 70-200 2.8L IS lens at f/5.6 for 1/80 at 320 ISO. Photoshop was used to smooth the senior’s face, slightly adjusted the exposure, darken the lips and added catch lights in her eyes.

My inspiration for this image was to capture baby girls wearing nothing but a tutu and beads. To add to her charm, Kaitlyn wore a headband and bow. Researching YouTube, I learned how to make a tutu without sewing. I made three different color tutus. This white one is for smallest baby girls. The headband and bow was purchased from Etsy. And when posed in front of my lens, Kaitlyn owned the shot! I took this image in my studio using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, 70-200 2.8L IS lens at f/8.0 for 1/80 at 160 ISO. Since I am dreaming, I can dream big! LF: What advice would you have for photographers who are starting out. - My best advice is to assist a seasoned photographer. The knowledge and experience you attain is immeasurable. LF:Is there a question that I should have asked that you feel important for our readers?
- I feel you covered everything I can think of. But what I would say in closing is not to be afraid to reinvent yourself. I reinvented myself more times than I can remember. By doing this, you will achieve more than you imagine! Thank you Donna Williams, please visit her website for more Turner Photography. 13
