Making Decisions That Work for YOU! Goldilocks (yes, the same one from the Three Bears, that we all know and love) had the right idea. You need to try things out and make your selection, based on what is best for you… even when it comes to design! It isn’t always the best idea to ask your friends and family for their opinion when decorating your home. Everyone has a different view and set of personal preferences. Many of us even scientifically see colours differently. A number of people like their beds or sofas to be soft and comfortable, while others prefer a firm, supportive feel to such a piece. Comparatively, many are drawn to the cool gray or blue hues of a West Coast color scheme, while others crave dark, bold accent colors to add drama to their space. There really isn’t a right or wrong answer, but more what is right for you! Try out a few options and see what works best for you and your family. You operate in the space on a daily basis, and must be able to live with the decisions you make… no regrets! However, it is a
good idea to ask those that have been through the process before for their advice and tips (very different from their opinion). They will be able to give you some insight on the things that they loved and hated, and possibly would even do differently if they had the chance to do it all over again. For example, one of my clients wanted to move her microwave up off the kitchen countertop, as it was taking up valuable real estate for dinner preparation. Her preference was for it to be up high, out of the reach of her young children. Because of this, an “Over-the-Range” microwave was the best option for her… However, another client with a height of 5’ tall was horrified at the thought of having to reach over her head to retrieve hot liquid dishes from such a microwave. She opted for a low built-in microwave drawer in her island. This option would never have worked for my first client, as it would be much too accessible for her little ones to try zapping their Lego. Neither answer was necessarily the correct one, but each clearly had
