How To Cut Years Off Your Mortgage Few people can buy a home for cash. Most of us have a difficult enough time saving the money needed for a down payment. To realize the dream of home ownership, we usually have to combine our savings with borrowed money through a financial arrangement called a mortgage. Paying off a mortgage is usually a long-term commitment over many years. Most homeowners would like to be mortgage-free sooner. Even if you lock into a long-term mortgage with an affordable interest rate, many lenders today offer the flexibility to pay down the principal and interest faster than scheduled.

What to look for when visiting home inspected in order to a house You should have your dream avoid any unexpected surprises So, you want to buy a new home and you have found a few potential properties. But how can you tell the difference between a “dream home” and a “heap of junk”? Buying a home is a big decision that should be made rationally. For this reason, there are certain things you should look for when visiting a house for the first time. For example: o Are the walls straight? o Is the chimney in good condition? o Does the foundation show signs of cracks or weakness? o Are there large trees planted too closely to the house? o Do the exterior doors shut properly? o Are there any drafts around them once they are shut? o Are there any cracks in the walls close to door frames, window frames or in the corner of ceilings? o Is the ceiling level? o Do all the inside doors open and shut properly?
o Do the windows open and shut properly? o Is the floor solid? If ceramic tiles have been used, are they cracked? o Has any mold or mildew built up around the windows or in the bathroom? o If the house has a fireplace, are there any signs of smoke over the hearth? o Is the damper air proof? o Are there any odours in the basement? (A perfumed scent might be due to the owner trying to mask humidity or animal urine odours.) o Is the cement floor in good condition? Finally, visually inspect all the drains, pipes and kitchen and bathroom fixtures to make sure they are in good condition. Making a checklist of the above questions and bringing it with you when visiting new homes can be a great help.
