When cool fall weather drives us inside, we often start to feel the urge to redecorate our homes. Before spending your money on interior paint and new couch cushions, take some time to consider the trends in home-décor colours for 20112012. Choosing a new colour scheme is the most inexpensive way of transforming your home, but if you don’t choose wisely your home will soon have an outdated look.

Skylights are designed to capture the light of the sun inside your home via the roof, using a tube or an aluminum frame and energyefficient transparent materials. Skylights that open electrically are also available on the market; they consist of a hidden motor and a remote-control system. Some products even include rain detectors which automatically close skylights in case of rain.

This year, bathrooms are expanding and taking on an XXL personality. That translates into extra-long counters, furnishings with long, clean lines, super-large sinks, spa-size baths, and showers with kingsize bases and immense shower heads that provide cascades of warmth and relaxation.

The focal point of any bathroom is the bathtub — it sets the tone more than any other feature. Whether sporting the modern lines of contemporary design or the clawed feet of an antique model, bath-

creative ideas. Remember that you should never use more than three different colours in one room. Trends in kitchen counters Experts on the subject will tell you that trends in the kitchen counter industry have evolved significantly in recent years. Formica and other laminate surfacing products are making way for elegant quarried rock, which brings durability and up-to-date style to any kitchen.

Showers are also increasing in size, many of them adopting an open design without door and four walls. For structurally conventional shower stalls, designers are throwing modesty to the wind as they choose doors and walls that are totally transparent.
