Selecting metal tones for your home Like fashion, everything in interior design seems to come and go, only to reappear in one form or another. While that sounds more like a magic trick, it seems to be the nature of the industry. Trends dictate which finishes and colours will be available in the market place and which finishes will become cast offs or hand-me-downs to the local thrift store. There are a few factors that need to be considered when you are selecting the right metal tones for your homes. These can help you limit the turnover and create a timeless look. Try to select finishes that are right for both you and the space that they are going into. For the more permanent, costly pieces, choose something that is more timeless. For example; Brass: The prom queen of the 80’s and 90’s, this metal was used everywhere to invoke the feeling of luxury and prestige. Brass has worn out its welcome for many though, as it was seen on everything from door hardware and fireplaces to plumbing and light fixtures. However, it is making a comeback in a more subtle way. We are seeing it in accessories like table lamps, picture frames, and decorative lighting. Not yet ready to invite it back with open arms? Introduce it in a simple, easy to change way. Brushed Nickel: Contemporary, works well with stainless steel
any space, but it is also probably the worst for showing fingerprints and scratches. Rose Gold: The new kid on the block. It is becoming increasingly popular for its soft, warm colour tone. The mix of gold and copper give a gentle pink hue to the metal. You will notice it a lot in fashion and accessories with a smattering happening in the interior décor world.
Chrome: This is a timeless option. This finish is often used on plumbing fixtures. However, you will also see many contemporary light fixtures and accessories in chrome as well. It adds a great reflective surface to

Victoria Real Estate Market Remains Strong All Summer Consumer confidence in our area continues to be one of the main drivers of the spring and summer market surge. In terms of single family home sales, this month we saw the highest number sold in the month of August since 2007. A total of 379 single family homes sold in August 2015, compared to 399 in August 2007. A total of 741 properties sold in the Victoria Real Estate Board region this August, an increase of 21.7% compared to the 609 properties sold in the same month last year. There were 3,688 active listings for sale on the Victoria Real Estate Board Multiple Listing Service® at the end of August, 14.6% fewer than the 4,316 active listings in August 2014. The Multiple Listing Service® Home Price Index benchmark value for a single family home in the Victoria Core last year in August was $556,600. The benchmark value for the same home in August 2015 has increased by 8.37% to $603,200. The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation announced new rules for buyers who have less than a 20 per cent deposit. Starting at the end of September, buyers who apply for mortgage loan insurance from CMHC will be able to include 100 per cent of the projected income from secondary suites. A change like this may buoy the market through the fall and winter, and we may see increased pressure on areas that permit suites. We’ll watch over the upcoming months and track any trickledown activity.
