Digitalized Lighting for Smart Living • When technology became part of our lives, it changed our daily lifestyle. Financial technology or FinTech is a good example. We used only cash money in the old days and when the digital era emerged, it brought us changes. And we started using ATM, credit card and then mobile banking, which allows us to do money transfer or other financial transactions on our own via a few finger clicks, without using any service staff. With convenience, simplicity and high speed of communications network, the number of global mobile banking users increases by leaps and bounds.

FinTech names in Thailand, which we usually hear about, are M Pay, True Money and Pay Siam – the online payment and money transfer platforms and E-wallet as well as other mobile payment applications such as Alipay in China, which is growing in popularity and many people use it quite often and rarely use cash in daily life.

Let’s talk about lighting in the digital age. In the past, people relied mainly on sunlight during daytime and moonlight during nighttime and nowadays we turned to depend on man-made lighting sources such as light bulbs. When times passed and new technologies influenced the lighting world, smart lighting emerged to respond to the needs of consumers who embrace smart living and prefer better life quality. Lighting innovation is now moving from analogue to digital but is still easy to understand, convenient and efficient.

Today, we are entering the digitalization era, so lighting technologies and innovations will link digitally such as when architects and interior designers design lighting for a house or an office, it will harmonize technology with visual art to suit functions and usage control such as turning light on and off, dimming light and adjusting lighting color to serve specific needs in the space.

Safe City. : a New move of City 4.0 Major content for this press conference and seminar focused mainly on convenience, safety and the use of electricity to maximize benefit and build sustainability, which paved the way to energy management and safety. This also reaffirms the direction of upstream operators, who play a vital role in building a smart city development, and many of them will attend Thailand Lighting Fair 2017 and Secutech Thailand 2017 at BITEC, Bangkok, during 16-18 November 2017. The event will be held as a platform to exchange views toward Smart City and then Smart City 4.0, one

Mr. Sermsakul Klaikaew, Governor of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), will preside over the seminar on “PEA 4.0: Smart Energy to fulfill Thailand 4.0”, featuring the PEA’s preparation for moving toward the Thailand 4.0 scheme with the development of smart grid network. This will ensure that PEA will deliver sufficient electricity with consistency and efficiency to consumers, laying the foundation to develop cities in the future. PEA itself aims not only

to deliver good service but also support the organizing of Thailand Lighting Fair 2017 in a bid to complement its core business and help the private sector to develop lighting innovations. Its move will help accelerate the ASEAN growth and extend the reach of Thai lighting operators into the international arena as well as driving them to enhance competitiveness and efficiency when competing in the global market.

Ms. Regina Tsai, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt New Era Business Media, will attend a seminar on “Thailand and its role as the technology hub in ASEAN”. This will strengthen the government’s support toward the lighting

business in Thailand, which has potential to compete in the international market.

lIgHtIng tHe PatH to Better BusIness HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) 2017 returns to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) to showcase the latest lighting products and technology to international buyers. The Autumn Lighting Fair and the concurrent HKTDC Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo 2017 (IOTLE) at AsiaWorld Expo (AWE) together present the world’s largest lighting marketplace. More than 2,660 exhibitors from 37 countries and participated in the Autumn Lighting Fair 2016, which welcomed more than 39,000 buyers in 2016.

The 18th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), which was successfully held from 27-30 October 2016, grew in capacity, reaching a new record of gross exhibition space of 70,533 sqm. The fair offered vast business opportunities to buyers and exhibitors alike and remained one of the most important trade events of its kind

in the lighting industry.

Surpassing 2016’s record by 4.2%, the fair featured 2,661 exhibitors from 37 countries with first time participation from Canada, Hungary, Ukraine and UAE. Hall of Aurora continued to be the highlight of the fair, gathering over 530 quality brands. Hall of Aurora exhibitors included BJB, Citizen, EGLO, Lumileds,

Neo-Neon and MEGAMAN. The total number of trade buyers reached 39,066 comprising of 141 countries with 72.3% of buyers coming from overseas and 27.7% from local market. Top ten visiting countries were Mainland China, USA, Taiwan, Australia, Germany, United Kingdom, Korea, Russia, India and Canada.

The fair’s largest product zone, LED & Green Lighting Zone, presented over 1,090 exhibitors, displayed a wide variety of energy-efficient products, providing innovative energy-efficient lighting solutions. Smart Lighting & Solutions offered lighting design service and software, management systems and control panels.

Other product zones covered Commercial Lighting, Household Lighting, Testing, Certification & Inspection, Avenue of Inspiration and Trade Service & Publication.

Among the many innovative and creative products at the fair are the

world’s first spiral shaped filament LED light bulb SIMBULB, which won the Good Design Award 2015 and Red Dot Award 2016; the smart Aroma Diffuser Lamp that serves as a diffuser, humidifier, Bluetooth music player and lamp; 180° motion activated LED Security Light equipped with a WiFi-enabled camera, built-in microphone and speaker, and a Floating Bulb that uses magnetic floating and wireless induction technologies.

Besides networking activities, a full slate of timely seminars took place during the four-day fair, discussing a wide range of topics from the latest development of smart lighting, LED and globalization to

lighting design. In addition, buyer forums were organised to introduce the opportunities in emerging markets and mature markets.

Looking ahead, the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) will return during 27-30 October 2017. Riding on the great success of 2016, the lighting fair will definitely bring forth more business opportunities to both exhibitors and buyers around the globe.

Osram is one of the world’s biggest lighting brands, operating its business for over 100 years. Part of its success is contributed by Osram (Thailand) Co., Ltd., which imports and distributes Osram lighting products in Thailand for more than 20 years. Its products sold here include indoor luminaires, building lighting, industrial lighting, automotive lighting, as well as other lightings which are used in airport or movie screening.

Pairoj Rojmahamongkol, Chief Executive officer of osram Thailand, PT osram Indonesia, LS Trade Sales Head APAC, talks about a business movement last year that the company combined its lighting business, which included all bulb groups such as incandescent lamp, compact fluorescent lamp, neon lamp and LED lamp, to become an independent company and sold it. The rationale behind the sales was that the lighting technology is gearing toward LED technology. “osram has kept a focus on professional lighting.

LED can change its color. Architectural lighting is becoming more common with large buildings decorated externally with LED lighting.

Given the trend of LED use, more than 50 percent of consumers have switched to LED to replace traditional lighting options to save energy, especially manufacturing plants and big electricity users, thanks to a declining price of LED that is now close to the price of traditional bulbs.

One more reason for LED’s popularity is its similarity to electronic products which can be controlled by new tools or applications. It’s not necessary to physically be at the building as we can control lighting via computer or mobile phone. And in the future, we will hear more about smart building, smart home

At present, Thailand has started to change street lighting from high-pressure sodium lamps to LED lamps. Its initial purpose is to save energy and next is for both safety and energy saving. When connected to the street lamp, it is under control, or set to work in line with the time of sunset, or traffic, or probably being a traffic checker for the road that it works for. This is the technology of Smart City for electricity and lighting in the future.

There are several differences between high quality products and low quality ones. First is endurance. All LED products can switch on instantly, but low quality products have a very short lifespan. Second is the light quality.

Unlike conventional bulbs that provide no light at all when they are broken, LED bulbs can still be on but provide insufficient light. This is when quality of light matters. We should choose good quality products for appropriate needs.

Good quality products provide consistent light level throughout their lifespan, while low quality products are only good in the beginning and quickly drop in performance. DigitalizeD lighting For years, mood, color and tone in spaces can be set by light using lighting control. Energy saving can be achieved also from daylight harvesting or personal movement. Thus, controls integration is essential for comfort and/or energy efficiency. However, there are more of today’s lighting technologies which can create a new way of lighting control to fit our lifestyle. Below is what digitalized lighting could do for our lifestyle.

• Voice activated control. You can simply say “I’m home” to activate a relaxing lighting atmosphere when you come home.

• RGB color, when set to work with home movie screening, you can enjoy your favorite movie even more. It can even activate red light in the morning or for urgent meeting alert.

• Tunable white light can be smarter by not only responding to time change but also to personal preferences.

• PIR Sensor (or Motion sensor) and/or Daylight sensor. Simply place the sensor in a room and it just works with a simple app on a smartphone.

• Crossed platform communication among IoT. Light can be turned on by smartphone and geographic data ie. lights will turn on when you are within the perimeter of your house.

• Adaptive system. For example, digitalized lighting and airconditioning systems could be very well be adapted to weather forecast. For instance, air-conditioning system will be on when the room is too hot.

• And much more.

However, such integration happens only in high-profile buildings or spaces that have enough budget, knowledge and expertise to bring all systems together, as individual systems are usually developed to operate independently. As a result, lighting industries tried to come up with many protocol standards i.e. DMX, DALI, KNX, ZigBee etc. to ease the inter-operation among different devices from different manufacturers. A control system is needed to ensure that things work together properly.

For example, daylight sensor could dim the light down when we have enough sunlight or the tunable white could change the CCT when time goes by and so on. It sounds simple, doesn’t it? Nevertheless, the sun position moves over years, so the sensors might not be in the right position for the winter sun because they were set up in summer. Solving this problem by adding more sensors to the room may give you more headache. Another example, for a large system, we will end up with color preset which is limited by buttons on the wall.

Consequently, the current lighting control system is still limited and requires users to have a certain level of commission skills.

Digitalized lighting on the other hand, could be smarter, easier to setup (using your smartphone either IOS or Android), and more intelligent (it can turn off the light when you are away since your phone’s geographic position moves away from home, or the light could blink or change color to let you know of any important appointment) and so on. For digitalized lighting, it will be a part of the IoT which will be able to interact with many IoT devices (Google Home, Amazon Echo, Apple HomePod, sensors, appliances, robots). All these little devices could communicate to Cloud which could learn daily patterns so they will be able to adapt to your lifestyle without programming it in advance.

Likewise, you can create a personalized system using a very simple IFTTT (www.ifttt.com) where you could say I am home (based on the phone’s location) to turn on the light. IFTTT is fun and very easy to understand. It could bring all IoT devices to work together.

Today, we can experience digitalized lighting by using Google Home or Amazon Echo or Apple Home (using iPhone for now) with lighting applications like Philips Hue, Osram Lightify or Zigbee with internet connection. In fact, we can also incoperate PIR sensor, curtain motor, garage door opener, NEST thermostat, Smart TV with a simple setup. One could create an algorithm for daylight sensors to understand the sun’s patterns and current weather status to be able to dim down or to boost up the light. Hopefully, the algorithm could be utilized and adapted for others over the Cloud. There should be a way to learn from past mistakes and be able to improve the system for the future, using artificial intelligent or AI. For commercial buildings which are larger spaces and could be more complicated, IoT would definitely help. For example, a five-star hotel in Samui, a welcome scene is activated by voice control as soon as a guest steps into the room. The RGB color changing light could communicate with movie or weather status or time to provide a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.

All smart components could be significantly less expensive because they dramatically reduce commissioning. Time will tell.

In the future, we will enjoy the ease of integration with more convenience at less cost.

ดังนั้นอุตสาหกรรมการผลิตระบบไฟฟ้าและแสงสว่าง ได้คิดค้น ระบบมาตรฐานมากมาย อาทิ DMX, DALI, KNX, ZigBee เพื่อเอื้อ ให้ระบบ อุปกรณ์ซงึ่ ผลิตโดยผูผ้ ลิตต่างๆ สามารถใช้งานร่วมกันได้อย่าง มีประสิทธิภาพ และเพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าระบบต่างๆ สามารถท�างานร่วมกัน ได้เป็นอย่างดี จึงจ�าเป็นต้องมีระบบควบคุม อาทิ การใช้ Daylight Sensor เพือ่ ลดแสงภายในห้องโดยอัตโนมัตเิ มือ่ ได้รบั แสงธรรมชาติจาก ดวงอาทิตย์เพียงพอภายในห้อง หรือจากระบบแสงสีขาว (Tunable White) สามารถเปลี่ยนระบบ CCT เมื่อเวลาผ่านไป ฟังดูเหมือนง่าย แต่อย่าลืมว่าต�าแหน่งของดวงอาทิตย์เคลื่อนที่เสมอในปีที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งอาจส่งผลต่อการท�างานของตัวเซ็นเซอร์ กล่าวคือตัวเซ็นเซอร์อาจ ท�างานในหน้าหนาวไม่ดีเท่ากับในหน้าร้อนเพราะอุปกรณ์ตั้งอยู่ใน ต�าแหน่งที่ไม่เหมาะสม จึงไม่สามารถใช้ประโยชน์จากแสงอาทิตย์ได้ อย่างเต็มที่ วิธีแก้ปัญหาคือเราสามารถติดตั้งตัวเซ็นเซอร์เพิ่มได้อีก ซึ่งนั่นอาจท�าให้คุณปวดหัวมากยิ่งขึ้น และอีกตัวอย่างหนึ่งคือ การใช้ระบบแสงขนาดใหญ่ท�าให้การใช้ อุปกรณ์ถูกจ�ากัดอยู่เพียงปุ่มกดบนก�าแพงเท่านั้น นั่นหมายความว่า ระบบการควบคุมแสงในปัจจุบนั ยังมีขอ้ จ�ากัด อีกทัง้ ผูใ้ ช้ยงั ต้องมีทกั ษะ พอสมควรจึงจะสามารถใช้ระบบได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ แต่ในทางตรงกันข้ามการติดตั้งระบบแสงดิจิทัลสามารถท�าได้ ง่ายดาย โดยผ่านระบบสมาร์ทโฟน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นระบบ IOS หรือ Android ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น ระบบมีความฉลาดล�้าเลิศ กล่าวคือ แสงไฟ ภายในบ้านจะค่อยๆ หรีแ่ ละดับลงเองโดยอัตโนมัตเิ มือ่ คุณก้าวออกจาก บ้านไป เพราะสมาร์ทโฟนที่คุณน�าติดตัวไปนั้นหยุดท�างานเชื่อมต่อกับ ระบบแสงภายในบ้าน หรือแสงไฟกะพริบ หรืออาจเปลี่ยนสีไปเพื่อ เป็นการเตือนนัดส�าคัญของคุณ ระบบแสงดิจิทัลจะเป็นเพียงส่วนหนึ่งของอินเทอร์เน็ตของสรรพสิ่ง หรือ IoT เท่านั้น โดยสามารถเชื่อมต่อกับอุปกรณ์ IoT อีกหลาย ประเภท อาทิ Google Home, Amazon Echo, Apple HomePod, อุปกรณ์ตรวจจับ (Sensors) อุปกรณ์ตา่ งๆ รวมทัง้ หุน่ ยนต์ ซึง่ อุปกรณ์ เหล่านี้สามารถเชื่อมต่อกับระบบ Cloud ท�าให้สามารถจดจ�ากิจกรรม ประจ�าวันและปรับระบบให้สอดคล้องกับไลฟ์สไตล์โดยผูใ้ ช้งานไม่จา� เป็น ต้องตั้งโปรแกรมล่วงหน้า

นอกจากนั้นคุณยังสามารถที่จะสร้างระบบการใช้งานส่วนตัวขึ้นมา เองได้โดยผ่านแอปพลิเคชัน IFTTT (www.ifttt.com) เพียงคุณพูดว่า ฉันถึงบ้านแล้ว (ตามต�าแหน่งของโทรศัพท์ของคุณ) แสงไฟภายในบ้าน ก็จะสว่างขึ้น IFTTT เป็นแอปพลิเคชันทีใ่ ช้งานง่าย และท�าให้คณ ุ สนุกเพลิดเพลิน ทั้งยังช่วยให้อินเทอร์เน็ตของสรรพสิ่ง หรือ IoT ท�างานร่วมกันได้ ในยุคดิจทิ ลั ปัจจุบนั เราควรลองใช้ระบบแสงดิจทิ ลั ซึง่ สามารถติดตัง้ ระบบผ่าน Google Home หรือ Amazon Echo หรือ Apple HomePod จากโทรศัพท์มอื ถือไอโฟน แล้วดาวน์โหลดแอปพลิเคชันระบบแสง อาทิ Philips Hue, Osram Lightify หรือ Zigbee ลงบนมือถือเพื่อการ ใช้งานผ่านการเชื่อมต่ออินเทอร์เน็ต ในความเป็นจริงแล้วยังสามารถ ติดตัง้ อุปกรณ์ตา่ งๆ อาทิ เครือ่ งตรวจจับความเคลือ่ นไหว (PIR Sensor) Curtain Motor, Garage Door Opener, NEST Thermostat และ Smart TV ได้อกี ด้วย นอกจากนีค้ วรสร้างชุดค�าสัง่ (Algorithm) ส�าหรับตัว Daylight Sensor เพื่อที่จะเรียนรู้เส้นทางของแสงอาทิตย์และสภาพ อากาศในปัจจุบัน ส�าหรับปรับลดหรือเพิ่มระดับแสงภายในบ้าน และ ชุดค�าสั่งยังจะสามารถใช้งานและปรับเปลี่ยนเพื่อใช้งานร่วมกับระบบ คอมพิวเตอร์ Cloud พร้อมทั้งยังสามารถใช้ระบบปัญญาประดิษฐ์ (Artificial Intelligence หรือ AI) บันทึกข้อผิดพลาดในอดีตเพื่อ สามารถปรับปรุงการใช้งานอุปกรณ์ในอนาคต ยิง่ ไปกว่านัน้ อุปกรณ์อนิ เทอร์เน็ตของสรรพสิง่ หรือ IoT ยังสามารถ น�ามาประยุกต์ใช้ในอาคารพาณิชย์ซึ่งมีพื้นที่ใช้สอยขนาดใหญ่และ ซับซ้อน อาทิ โรงแรมระดับ 5 ดาว ที่เกาะสมุย ทันทีที่แขกเดินถึง ห้องพัก แสงไฟภายในห้องจะเริม่ สว่างขึน้ ทันทีโดยการท�างานผ่านระบบ ควบคุมเสียง ขณะทีร่ ะบบปรับเปลีย่ นสี (RGB Color Changing Light) สามารถสร้างบรรยากาศผ่อนคลายได้โดยเชือ่ มต่อกับฟังก์ชนั ดูหนังหรือ สภาพอากาศ หรือระบบเวลา อุปกรณ์อันชาญฉลาดนี้สามารถช่วยประหยัดค่าใช้จ่ายได้โดยลด ขั้นตอนการท�างานอย่างมาก เวลาจะเป็นเครื่องพิสูจน์ทุกอย่าง และใน อนาคตคุณจะเพลิดเพลินไปกับการผสมผสานอุปกรณ์ต่างๆ ในระบบ แสงดิจิทัลอันทันสมัยเข้าด้วยกัน ซึ่งไม่เพียงแค่ท�าให้สะดวกสบาย ยิ่งขึ้น แต่ยังช่วยลดค่าใช้จ่ายอีกด้วย

PEA orgAnizEd A sEminAr on smArt City with thAilAndindonEsiA CollAborAtion • On 18 May 2017, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) organized its seminar on “Smart Technology for Smart City Safe City” at Betawi B Room, Novotel Jakarta Mangga Dua Square, Jakarta, Indonesia. This seminar allowed project owners, property firms, hotels and resorts, factories, automation contractors, architects, interior designers and media to exchange knowledge and experiences related to lighting innovations and Smart City. The seminar has an objective to help develop Smart City and the lighting innovation business to grow sustainably.

This event received an honor from a representative of consular at Thai Embassy in Jakarta to give an addressing speech on “Business Opportunities and Investment between Indonesia and Thailand” while the seminar on “Smart Technology for Smart City Safe City” had keynote speakers from the PEA, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Exhibiz Co., Ltd. and Skylight Technology International Co., Ltd. to share knowledge and experiences related to Smart City in an attempt to strengthen business ties between the two countries in the future.

Moreover, the PEA also had its public relations activities to invite entrepreneurs and related persons in Indonesia to open booths and attend Thailand Lighting Fair 2017, which is due to take place during 16-18 November 2017, at BITEC, Bangna, Bangkok.

ChinEsE lighting dEsign AssoCiAtion (CldA) in bAngkok • Twenty members of Chinese Lighting Design Association (CLDA) led by Mr. Lear Hsieh, together with renown lighting designers such as Prof. Julian Warren, Mr. James Wallace from Australia, Dr. Amardeep Dugar from India, Prof.Dr. Karolina Zielinska from Wismar and Mr. Philip Rafael from Germany visited Bangkok, Thailand on 10-13 May 2017. On May the 12th, the group visited C asean which is a hub for collaboration among business leaders across the region to support the development of the ASEAN Community through various activities focusing on business startups, ASEAN arts and culture. Dr. Acharawan Chutarat and Mr. Jirachai Thongthipaya, lighting designers from BioArchitek, Co., Ltd. gave a short talk on lighting design concept and implementation at C asean. In addition, Mr. Patrick Horatanachai, operation and sales manager has been a great host throughout the visit. Hopefully, there will be further lighting activities among Thai, Chinese and C asean network in the future.

The invention of electric light bulb by the American inventor, Thomas Alva Edison, has changed the world in many ways. Interior lighting changed the structure of society by allowing activities to extend into the night. With the help of electric lighting, office workers are able to work late while people stay up late to enjoy their activities. Simply put, our lives are no longer governed by the sun.

ย้อนกลับไปเมื่อประมาณ 140 ปีก่อน เมื่อ โทมัส อัลวา เอดิสัน นักประดิษฐ์ คนสำาคัญแห่งสหรัฐอเมริกา ได้เปิดตัวผลิตภัณฑ์ชิ้นใหม่ของเขา เช่น ‘หลอดไฟ (Light Bulb)’ นั้น มันได้เปลี่ยนโลกทัศน์ กิจกรรม และรูปแบบการใช้ชีวิตของผู้คนให้ พลิกผันไปสู่มิติใหม่โดยสิ้นเชิง ที่ๆ กลางคืนจะไม่มืดมิด ที่ๆ ความ สุกสว่างจะกระจายตัวในทุกพื้นที่ ที่ๆ เวลาสำาหรับการทำางานและการ ใช้ชีวิตจะขยายตัวขึ้น และเป็นโลกที่ จะไม่ถูกกำาหนดกิจกรรมด้วยแสงสว่าง จากดวงอาทิตย์แต่เพียงอย่างเดียว อีกต่อไป ทุกอย่างเกิดขึน้ และด�าเนินไปในระยะเวลา 140 ปี สั้นและเร็วกว่ายุคสว่างทางปัญญา อย่างไม่อาจเทียบได้ มาถึงปัจจุบัน คงไม่มีใครนึกภาพโลก ทีป่ ราศจากแสงสว่างจาก ‘หลอดไฟ’ ไปได้ แต่ท่ามกลางการเปลี่ยนผ่านของช่วงเวลา และความก้าวหน้าของเทคโนโลยี บัญญัตใิ หม่ แห่งโลกแสงสว่างอย่าง Smart Lighting ก็เริม่ เป็นค�าทีเ่ ข้ามาอย่างหนาหูในช่วงไม่กปี่ ี ทีผ่ า่ นมานี้ แน่นอนว่ามันเป็นไอเดียทีย่ งั ค่อนข้าง ‘ใหม่’ ส�าหรับผู้ใช้งานระดับครัวเรือน โดยเฉพาะ อย่างยิ่งกับประเทศไทย ที่ความพร้อมทาง สาธารณูปโภคเพื่อตอบสนองต่อเทคโนโลยี ดังกล่าวอาจจะยังอยู่ในระดับที่ไม่เพียงพอ ทีจ่ ะให้สงิ่ ต่างๆ เหล่านีเ้ กิดขึน้ ได้ในเร็ววัน… เช่นนัน้ หรือ…? นั่นคือสิ่งที่เราคิดและเข้าใจในเบื้องแรก แต่แล้วเมื่อโฆษณา TV Commercial ของ หลอดไฟยี่ห้อหนึ่งเริ่มออกฉายผ่านช่องทาง YouTube นัน้ เราก็พบว่า บางทีเทคโนโลยี Smart Lighting อาจจะไม่ได้ไกลจนเกินเอือ้ ม และการไปถึงโลกแห่ง Smart Living ก็อาจ จะเป็นไปได้มากมายกว่าทีค่ ดิ ไว้

ถ้าหากเราเอ่ยถามถึงสิ่งที่เรียกว่า Smart Lighting แล้วนัน้ คุณจะนึกถึงสิง่ ใด? แสงสว่าง และระบบแบบไหนทีจ่ ะสามารถเรียกได้วา่ เป็น ระบบแบบ ‘Smart’ ที่แท้จริง? อีกสารพัน ข้อสงสัยอันไม่สิ้นสุด จินตภาพที่อาจจะยัง ไม่อาจไปถึงจากการไม่ได้เห็นภาพการใช้ งานจริง เหล่านีเ้ ป็นเรือ่ งปกติทสี่ ามารถเกิดขึน้ ได้กบั นวัตกรรมใหม่ ไม่ได้มแี ต่เฉพาะงานแสง แต่เพียงอย่างเดียว ตัวอย่างผลิตภัณฑ์หลอดไฟแบรนด์หนึ่ง เข้าใจในจุดนี้ และส่งมอบค�าตอบผ่าน TVC ตัวใหม่ความยาว 5 นาที ก็ช่วยให้ค�าถาม อันซับซ้อนเหล่านีเ้ ข้าใจได้งา่ ยขึน้ และท�าได้ อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ เนื้อหาของ TVC ดังกล่าวนั้น เป็นการ บอกเล่าถึงแง่มุมชวนหัวเราะร่าน�้าตารินของ คุณเผือก-พงศธร จงวิลาศ ดีเจ ศิลปิน และ นักแสดงชือ่ ดัง กับ คุณลูกจ๋า ภรรยา ทีป่ ระสบ ปัญหาอันยุ่งยากในการด�าเนินชีวิตในแง่มุม ต่างๆ ทีเ่ กีย่ วข้องกับ ‘แสงไฟ’ ในชีวติ ประจ�าวัน ดูเผินๆ แล้ว TVC ชิน้ นีอ้ าจจะไม่ได้มอี ะไร มากนอกจากโฆษณาเพือ่ เอาฮา แต่ปญ ั หาที่ เกิดขึ้นในตลอด 5 นาทีครึ่งของโฆษณาใน เหตุการณ์ตา่ งๆ นัน้ ก็เป็นสิง่ ทีเ่ ราสามารถ ประสบพบเจอได้โดยตลอด เช่น ความเหมาะสม ของแสงไฟเพือ่ การใช้งาน การ Dim ระดับ แสงไฟ ระบบไล่ยงุ และแมลงรบกวน จนถึง ระบบไฟอัตโนมัติและไฟส�าหรับผู้สูงอายุที่ แสงไฟปกติอาจจะไม่สามารถให้ความสะดวกใน จุดต่างๆ ทีก่ ล่าวไปได้อย่างเพียงพอ (ทีส่ ว่ นใหญ่ จะเป็นดีเจเผือก ทีต่ อ้ งยอมลงให้ไปเสียทุกครัง้ ) แต่มันก็ชวนให้คิดต่อไปอีกว่า มันจะดี แค่ไหน ถ้าปัญหาละอันพันละน้อยที่จุกจิก ยิบย่อยทีเ่ ราปล่อยผ่านไปราวกับจะเป็นเรือ่ งที่ จ�าต้องทน จะสามารถลุลว่ งไปได้งา่ ยๆ ด้วย เทคโนโลยี Smart Lighting

It’s hard to imagine how fast 140 years flew by since the day Edison invented the first practical incandescent light which improved upon previous models that were not capable of being used in the home.

Life without electric lights seems unimaginable at this point. Time flies so quickly and technology has advanced over time; lighting technology is no exception.

Smart lighting, a technology designed for energy efficiency, has become a household word over the past few years.

Interiors, architects and people in the building industry may be familiar with “smart lighting” idea but it may be new to the public. Thailand does not seem

to be ready for the advanced lighting technology due to a lack of critical infrastructure in response to dynamic conditions and practice.

The poor condition of infrastructure is seen by experts as an impediment to rapidly technological growth in the country. Is that true?

Doubts about the idea continue as to what it really is. It is difficult for many people to imagine what the technology look like. While defining such innovation can be a challenging task as it involves complicated processes which are uncommon to the public.

We already know how technology affects our life and what it can do for our life and home. However, what are the selected factors and indicators in smart lighting technology development?

There are no written criterior for the technology. Roughly speaking, it should include four main factors as follow: Smart lighting is mainly based on advanced digital technology to create mobile connected devices. The

Most of them spend at least eight hours per day at the office. An ideal office should incorporate sustainable green design which helps reduce energy usage and impact to the mother earth.

As such, some business owners have decided to go green and create office spaces that are friendly to the environment. The effort can make a difference to the health of the people and the environment.

What is green office?

One of the largest consumers of energy including electricity and water, offices can generate activities that have negative impact to the environment and health.

With this in mind, business owners have adopted and implemented green practices to the workplace in a bid to create a healthy environment. They are making an effort to minimise activities that would harm the environment and optimise energy and natural resources.

While factories are working hard to manage industrial waste effectively and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases arising from their production processes.

ส�ำนักงำนสีเขียว จุดเริ่มต้นแห่งควำมยั่งยืน ออฟฟิศเปรียบเสมือนบ้านหลังที่สองของชีวิตคนยุคนี้ และออฟฟิศที่ให้ ความส�าคัญกับการออกแบบในสไตล์เป็นมิตรกับสิ่งแวดล้อมนั้น เป็นสถานที่ ที่น่าอยู่ ร่มเย็น สบายใจ สบายกาย โดยปัจจุบันมีออฟฟิศจ�านวนไม่น้อยที่ได้ ชื่อว่าเป็น Green Office หรือส�านักงานสีเขียว ซึ่งหมายถึงการเป็นส�านักงาน ที่รู้จักใช้พลังงานอย่างรู้ค่าและส่งผลกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อมน้อยที่สุด

Green Office คืออะไร หากไม่นับคนที่ท�างานอยู่กับบ้านหรือบ้าน คือโฮมออฟฟิศแล้ว คนจ�านวนมากมักใช้ เวลาส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในที่ท�างานอย่างน้อยคือ 8 ชั่วโมงต่อวัน เพราะฉะนั้นออฟฟิศหรือ ส�านักงานจึงเป็นแหล่งที่ใช้พลังงานมากมาย มหาศาล ไม่วา่ จะเป็นพลังงานไฟฟ้า น�า้ ประปา เครื่องใช้ต่างๆ ที่ได้มาจากทรัพยากรโลก เช่น กระดาษ น�้าหมึก บรรจุภัณฑ์ต่างๆ เป็นต้น ค�าว่า ‘Green Office’ จึงเกิดขึ้น ซึ่งหมายความว่าการเป็นส�านักงานสีเขียว ที่มีการด�าเนินกิจกรรมต่างๆ ภายในโดยส่ง

Why going green is important Green office helps business operators achieve saving in energy costs and lower impact on the earth and the health.

On top of that, being green means looking after people as well as the environment. Green office can reduce the risk of Sick Building Syndrome which can be caused by chemical factors including building materials - carpets, adhesives, and paint which can emit chemicals and volatile organic compounds (Vocs) and other toxic substances.

With a strong green commitment, Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA) decided to adopt and implement green office practices in 2014 in an effort to reduce energy consumption and to improve the health of its employees.

The PEA aims to apply the green practices into its offices nationwide.

Now, a total of 40 offices under PEA administration have adopted the approaches into their everyday operations.

The PEA has been awarded by the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, under the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources for “Green Office”. The award is a real source of the organisation’s pride.

getting to knoW “green Building” The concepts of “Green Building” and “Green Office” may be confusing. Green building approach involves considering the impacts of material and building practices and design on developer’s projects. Green building is a common practice in Europe and in North America and it is now a growing trend in Thailand.

The green building should involve the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle from choosing location to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. The ultimate goals of green building projects are to reduce the use of natural resources.

Building projects which comply with environmental laws and commit to sharing the building’s energy and water would receive the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

The LEED programme was developed and is maintained by the US Green Building Council.

Examples of green architecture in Thailand are SCG’s building, four PEA office buildings in Nakhon Pathom, Chonburi, Pathum Thani and Suphanburi.

ท�าความรู้จักกับ Green Building หลายคนอาจสับสนระหว่างค�าว่า Green Building กับ Green Office ว่าแตกต่างกัน อย่างไร? จริงๆ แล้ว Green Building คือ

โครงสร้างภายนอกตัวอาคารของส�านักงาน หรือหมายถึงอาคารสีเขียว ซึ่งก็คืออาคารที่ เป็นมิตรต่อสิง่ แวดล้อมนัน่ เอง อาคารสีเขียว เป็ น แนวคิ ด ที่ ไ ด้ รั บ ความนิ ย มและพั ฒ นา มาจากทวีปยุโรปและในอเมริกา หากเพิ่งจะ แพร่หลายในเมืองไทยได้ไม่นาน ส�าหรับ นิยามของอาคาร Green Building นั้น คือ ต้องเป็นอาคารที่ปลูกสร้างโดยใช้เทคโนโลยี ทีเ่ หมาะสม มีความรับผิดชอบต่อสิง่ แวดล้อม

สร้างได้ง่ายๆ จากการปรับพฤติกรรม และเคลื่อนย้ายอุปกรณ์ส�านักงาน เครื่องถ่ายเอกสาร/เครื่องพิมพ์เอกสาร • เลี่ยงการตั้งเครื่องถ่ายเอกสารใน ห้องท�างานปรับอากาศหรือจัดให้อยู่ใน จุดที่ไกลจากพื้นที่ท�างาน • เลี่ยงใช้ผงหมึกที่เป็นสารก่อมะเร็ง เช่น สาร Nitropyrene และ Trinitroluene การก่อสร้างหรือต่อเติมอาคาร • ท�าป้ายสื่อสารให้ชัดเจนว่าเป็นพื้นที่ ก่อสร้าง • จัดให้มีที่ปฏิบัติงานส�ารองในระหว่าง การก่อสร้างและต่อเติมอาคาร

Benefits of green Building Technological advancement and innovation in construction projects could destroy the natural environment. It can cause the negative impacts to water sources and energy, produce gases that can damage the ozone layer and affect the climate.

Carbon dioxide emissions arising from industrial processes are substantial.

While construction work has direct and indirect impacts on the natural resources and ecosystem.

Exposure to radon gas generated by

the fumes from new building materials and furnishings can be harmful to human health. Excessive exposure to the toxic for a long period of time is the leading cause of lung cancer.

While open burning of construction and demolition materials spews pollutants into the air that affect our health and the environment.

As such, the implementation of green building concept could help reduce impacts on the environment for the entire lifecycle of a building, while saving natural resources and cutting energy use and waste. It also helps improve indoor air quality and enhance workers’ productivity and health.

Due to the increasing environmental concerns, lighting control systems will play an important role in the reduction of energy consumption of lighting without impeding comfort goals. To fulfill the requirements of comfort and energy efficiency, programs should be implemented to reduce lighting energy requirements by installing more efficient light sources and providing the optimal lighting level for the tasks being performed, and providing light only when and where it is needed.

This can be achieved by using lighting control strategies via lighting control system. The main purpose of these systems is to minimize energy consumption while providing a productive visual environment. For example, LED tubes usually light up the ceiling even though the usable light is only in the downward direction.

The old version of lighting control system controls the lighting within a space including occupancy sensors, timer and photo sensors. These controllers are wired to fixed groups of lights independently. To adjust them, we need to access them manually at each device’s locations. Therefore, modern lighting control system takes place in order to centralize the controller interface.

Adjustment of the system occurs both at device locations and at central computer locations via software programs or other interface devices. They usually have the ability to automatically adjust a lighting device’s output based on: • Time of day: A schedule or a timetable, as a basic time management tool, consists of a list of times at which possible tasks, events, or actions are intended to take place, or of a sequence of events in a chronological order in which such things are intended to take place. The control of lights in a university lecturing room is a good example of such a scheduled lighting.

- Lighting control system is intelligent controllers that can turn lights on-off, dim, and provide advanced control functionality.

- Many lighting control systems provide tablet or smartphone application to enable wireless controllability.

• Sunrise/Sunset: Time schedules incorporate sunrise and sunset times, often used to switch lighting. This is accomplished using the building’s geographic location via either latitude or longitude giving the approximate corresponding astronomical time.

• Occupancy: Using lighting or heating control device that detects occupancy of a space by people and turns the light system on or off automatically, using infrared, ultrasonic, microwave, or other technology. Occupancy sensors are typically used to save energy and provide automatic control.

• Daylight harvesting: Use a photo-sensor, to detect the prevailing light level, luminance or brightness, in lighting systems.

These sensors are used to adjust electric lighting based on available daylight in the space.

• Alarm conditions: For example, the inputs from other building systems such as the fire alarm can trigger all emergency lights on or flash.

• Combination of events: All of the above elements can be tied together using constructs such as if-then-else statements and logical operators using PLC or Micro-controller.

Although many lighting manufacturers have developed their lighting control systems, there is often a lack of clear identification of the needs. So it is very difficult to choose one.

An optimal system performance needs not only to reach a good

performance with respect to saving electrical energy, but also to be accepted by the end-user. The end-user may be disturbed by the operation of the system and disable it. A high user acceptance guarantees undisturbed operations and consequently energy savings. The usability of the system must be defined to address all the types of users including building operators, occupants, facility managers, maintenance teams, installers, etc.

Usability expresses the quality of the user’s experience during interaction with a system. A good lighting control system should have: • Easy to learn: An untrained user can quickly learn to operate the system.

• High efficiency of use: An experienced user carry out tasks using the system fast and well.

• Less occurrence of errors: The user makes errors less often when operating the system.

• Comfort: The user feels comfortable with the system.

• Easy installation and maintenance However, it is difficult to develop a system without disadvantages. Because we cannot gain anything without giving something in return, for example; • The wireless systems have the advantage of easy installation because they don’t need electric wiring. But the device’s battery needs to be replaced at a proper time. Locating

different devices on the network can also be complicated.

• Having a single light sensor makes it easy to set up.

However, as a result, the brightness of each area is not equal.

The area close to the window is always brighter.

• Motion detector can automatically power on and off lights by detecting motion. It may be possible to turn off the lights when the room is occupied if it does not detect any motion.

So this type of sensor always has a delay. This delay leaves the light on for a while when motion is not detected. More time delay decreases the chances that the lights are turned off when the room is occupied. But it also increases the chances that the lights stay lit when the room is unoccupied.

• Even if the time schedule is convenient to use, it may be inconvenient if you have to use the room outside of the schedule.

You may need to ask the administrator to extend the schedule.

Therefore, the implementation of a lighting control system should begin with the study of the use for different areas to determine the appropriate control pattern. To make the system more responsive and easy to use, users should provide clear usage information to the manufacturer. This makes it convenient to use the system without getting frustrated and having to disable it like in the past.

The current world of product design and lighting work has entered the stage that could only be dreamed of by designers where efficiency can harmoniously blend with style to perfectly serve dual demands without the necessity to sacrifice either demand that will reduce the product’s value.

Prior to reaching this particular milestone, the lighting work has passed through many stages of development, invention, value-added creation as the achievement could not be created overnight but required time that may last as long as a decade to bring results as in nowadays.

Lighting work solution company Pemco Interlight Co., Ltd. has stood tall and firm in the lighting and decoration industry for over three decades. In the occasion that the company has approached its fourth decade, Lighting Focus Magazine received an opportunity to discuss with Founder and Chairman Somdej Kokulkiat, who flashed back the company’s history, direction, commitment and perspective towards lighting products in Design Object column.

“Looking back to 38 years ago, I decided to start a lamp company under several perfect circumstances,” Mr. Somdej pointed to the beginning of PEMCO Co., Ltd. which has imported lighting products and offered lighting works for a long time with accumulated expertise and sales experiences, coupled with foreign language skills which allowed the company to directly facilitate contact

with suppliers. Hence, PEMCO can independently and smoothly select products by considering from users’ demands.

“Regarding the product selection, PEMCO normally focuses on the mass market which we view that they match the demands of the majority of users.

However, each individual has their own preference so the company has arranged products in Theme Series to provide varieties of product and design choices

for customers. The company also considers the timing at different significant periods such as new innovations or new developments by emphasizing on mass products, together with the innovation that will finally result in parts of the lamp. This is to ensure that the products will always match the time being,” Mr. Somdej said.

Despite operating in the lighting industry for over three decades, PEMCO has clearly demonstrated that the focus

on users’ demand along with keeping an eye on the horizon for new technology concepts are key factors in assisting the company to confidently go through transformation without holding on to its early success. The 4,125-square-meter showroom on Rama II Road is comparable to a solid foundation that stands strong until the present time.

Vivid illumination amid the Visual art

The decision to experiment importing unusual unique products would not happen if the executives did not have the vision to step away from conventional perspective. The chairman with loads of experiences has emphasized such direction that; “Lamp is a piece of art that has pattern and style reflecting the society in each era as the products match the living style and also reflects the identity and taste of users. Therefore, the lamp design should consider not only the functionality and the value for money but also the innovation and the lifestyle.

For instance, now is the era for LED as LED lamps consume much lower watt so users will save more of electricity

expenses when compared to conventional lamps. The company will try to select LED lamps with beautiful contemporary designs and outstanding functions to offer assorted alternatives that will match customers’ demands the most.”

However, PEMCO has not focused only on products that serve artistic demand but also on products that help increase the efficiency for industries such as industrial lighting. Mr. Somdej added that “The industry sector now pays more attention to design as it will help enhance the workplace atmosphere and also elevate the respectable corporate image.”

Smart Lighting to Smart Life

Light and lighting design is not the only issue widely discussed in the industry.

The arrival of Smart Lighting and Smart Life calls for the integration of light, design and technology to bring convenience to people living in the 4.0 era. PEMCO has followed and closely paid attention to these developments.

“Based on the company’s perspective, SMART HOME is the application of automatic system in the home in which LED product is part of the solution to provide innovative lighting alternatives

for occupants such as movement sensoring system to switch on the light and the job execution via application on smartphone in order to provide greater convenience, sense of safeness in life and properties, energy saving and better well-being to occupants,” Mr. Somdej gave his opinion.

PEMCO has served not only the household use of lighting system but also the industrial, commercial and tourism applications that will lead to the development of true Smart City and Smart Life. Meanwhile, the varieties of beauty and visual art are not overlooked

by PEMCO because the company also offers products with functions featuring different degrees of light dimming and connection with speakers for decorative purpose that will assist in enhancing and diversifying lifestyle.

Next Step in the Fourth decade of PEMCO

Over 38 years in its long history in the business, PEMCO has performed well in the lighting industry under a secure business plan. As the company is preparing to embark on its fourth decade, there are questions as to how the

company will move forward.

Mr. Somdej explained about the upcoming future; “The current lifestyle of people and the development of residential buildings indicate that consumers place greater importance to decorative lamps, using light to enhance beauty. PEMCO views that the overall outlook of lighting products will still linger around elegant designs that blend well with the buildings, products with nice light angle, small lamps with high brightness and energy-saving lamps.”

PEMCO has prepared to launch new innovative lighting products and provide experts for education and consultation

on appropriate product selection for the household, commercial and industrial applications at the upcoming Thailand Lighting Fair 2017 that will be held this November.

The world of modern-day lighting has reached the stage where efficiency and beautiful design can work together in harmony without the need to compromise in any aspect. This development goes with PEMCO’s slogan of Lighting Expert.

“ส�าหรับ Smart Home ในมุมมองของทาง บริษทั คิดว่าจะเป็นการน�าระบบอัตโนมัตติ า่ งๆ เข้ามาใช้ภายในบ้าน ซึง่ ในส่วนของผลิตภัณฑ์ LED จะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการตอบโจทย์ทาง เลือกให้กับผู้อยู่อาศัยในด้านของนวัตกรรม แสงสว่าง เช่น ระบบ Sensop ตรวจจับความ เคลื่อนไหวแล้วไฟติด หรือการสั่งงานผ่าน แอปพลิเคชันบน Smart Phone เป็นต้น เพือ่ ให้ผอู้ ยูอ่ าศัยเกิดความสะดวกสบาย รูส้ กึ ปลอดภัยในชีวิตและทรัพย์สิน ช่วยประหยัด พลั ง งาน หรื อ เพื่ อ ช่ ว ยดู แ ลสุ ข ภาพของผู ้ อยู่อาศัย” คุณสมเดชกล่าวให้ความเห็น ซึ่ง PEMCO เองก็ไม่ได้มองแค่เพียงการใช้งานใน ระดับตามบ้าน หากแต่โยงไปถึงการใช้งานใน ภาคอุตสาหกรรม ภาคการพาณิชย์ และภาค การท่องเที่ยว ที่จะน�าไปสู่ความเป็น Smart City และ Smart Life อย่ า งแท้ จ ริ ง แต่แน่นอนว่าเรื่องความหลากหลายสวยงาม และมีศิลปะของงานแสง ก็ยังเป็นอีกบริบทที่ PEMCO ไม่ได้มองข้ามไป เพราะลูกเล่นและ ฟังก์ชันอื่นๆ เช่น การ Dim แสงได้หลาย ระดับ หรือการเชื่อมต่อกับล�าโพงเพื่อการ ตกแต่ง ก็ถือเป็นสิ่งที่ช่วยเสริมไลฟ์สไตล์ ให้มีความหลากหลายมากยิ่งขึ้น

อนึ่ง แสงส่องสว่างและงานดีไซน์ด้านไลท์ติ้ง ก็ดจู ะไม่ใช่ประเด็นเพียงหนึง่ เดียวทีไ่ ด้รบั การ กล่าวถึงในวงกว้าง หากแต่การมาถึงของ เทคโนโลยี Smart Lighting และ Smart Life ที่ผสมผสานงานแสง การออกแบบ และ เทคโนโลยีเพื่ออ�านวยความสะดวกในการใช้ ชี วิ ต ยุ ค 4.0 จะมาประสานรวมกั น เป็ น หนึ่งเดียว ซึ่งทาง PEMCO ก็ติดตามและให้ ความสนใจในการมาถึงของสิ่งต่างๆ เหล่านี้ อย่างใกล้ชิด

Nowadays, no matter where we turn to, it is very difficult to avoid the involvement with ‘light’ that shines onto various areas.

We use light to chase away darkness, establish a clear vision, and create the right atmosphere for a particular place.

When lighting in the architectural Work is not just luminous.

However, the advancement in information technology and new architectural ideas have led the world of lighting far beyond just light bulbs and tungsten filaments, and opened a new horizon of possibilities that’s more than just simply illumination. It’s a new dimension of quality, visual arts and the overall usability that synchronizes with various aspects of life into a perfect harmonious living.

These trends have already taken place. What’s about to happen next is a new trend of lighting and architecture that we should never overlook.

ทุกวันนี้ ไม่ว่าเราจะหันหน้าไป ทางไหน ก็ยากนักที่จะหลีกเลี่ยง ความเกี่ยวพันกับ ‘แสงสว่าง’ ที่สาดส่องลงมายังพื้นที่ต่างๆ ไปได้ เราใช้แสงเพื่อไล่ความมืด สร้างวิสัยทัศน์ให้ชัดเจน และสร้างบรรยากาศที่เหมาะสม สำาหรับสถานที่หนึ่งๆ ให้พึงบังเกิดขึ้นได้ตามที่ใจ ต้องการ

design is what architects and lighting designers must pay attention to. It’s not only to reduce the initial cost of installing the lighting system but also to improve energy efficiency. The beautiful lights that adorn the building could be part of an indoor lighting control (e.g., turn-on/ turn-

off timing) or set up the timer and the luminance according to the operating period (dimming, color adjustments to suit the application), to change the interaction between the users and the lighting work.

ในช่ ว งหลั ง มานี้ เรามั ก จะได้ ยิ น ถึ ง การ ประชาสัมพันธ์เกี่ยวกับอันตรายที่เกิดจาก แสงสีน�้าเงินที่จะก่อให้เกิดผลเสียกับดวงตา อยู่บ่อยๆ นั่นเป็นเพียงส่วนหนึ่งของการหัน มาใส่ใจเกีย่ วกับคุณภาพของแสง (Quality of Light) ที่จะมีต่อคุณภาพชีวิต (Quality of Life) เพราะในระดับสากล การใส่ใจกับ คุ ณ ภาพของแสงเพื่ อ ลั ก ษณะการใช้ ง านที่ แตกต่างกัน ทีถ่ กู คิดผนวกรวมในการออกแบบ อาคารนั้นได้รับการปฏิบัติ ทดลอง และ ศึกษามาล่วงหน้าแล้วหลายปี ควบคู่ไปกับ ความสามารถในการปรับและควบคุมแสงไฟ จากเทคโนโลยีสมัยใหม่ ท�าให้การคิดเพื่อ การใช้งานทีแ่ ตกต่างและยืดหยุน่ นัน้ สามารถ เกิดขึ้นได้จริง และเข้าถึงความเป็นไปได้มาก ยิ่งขึ้น นั่นเพราะข้อส�าคัญไม่ใช่เพียงการ ส่ อ งสว่ า ง หากแต่ เ ป็ น คุ ณ ภาพของการ ส่องสว่างนัน้ ๆ ทีจ่ ะมีถงึ ผูใ้ ช้งานภายในอาคาร ซึ่งผู้ออกแบบจะต้องหันมาพิจารณาอย่าง ถี่ถ้วนมากขึ้น

- energy SeLf-reLianCe When it comes to the efficiency of light control and energy consumption, the energy that powers light is another important topic to consider, especially when LED technology has become more popular because of its cheaper price, better performance and longer lifespan.

Today, many light bulb manufacturers have started to move on to irreplaceable lighting products. On the other hand, architects have incoporated natural light and energy reserve into building designs.

With lower investment cost (and maintenance cost that guarantees payback in no time). It is easier for designers to play around with different ideas and styles for decoration and better quality of life for users.

- it’S not juSt about the Lighting but it iS a matter of the QuaLity of Life In the past few years, we often hear about the negative effects of blue light on our eyes. This shows that quality of

light affects quality of life. On a global level, quality of light for different uses is taken into consideration when it comes to designing buildings. Along with light adjustability and light control by new technologies, it has been researched and experimented for flexible use under different conditions and unlock more possibilities. Because light is not just about illuminating a place, but it also has to do with the quality of life.

- new materiaL for a better performanCe Even though LED’s performance is currently at outstanding level, the quest to further improve its capability and expanding limits is still on. The recent discovery of Graphene, a new material that can efficiently conduct heat and electricity, has garnered great interest from manufacturers in many different fields, including computer engineering, water engineering and electrical engineering.

- fLexibiLity of Lighting appLiCation teChnoLogy “LED light does not suit every building function.” was a common phrase in the early days when LED technology was still new. The phrase has become less relevant over time as LED production becomes more advanced and price becomes cheaper. The initial limitation does not apply any more as the discovery of new materials led to more possibilities.

Architects and interior designers have to think outside the box to reach those possibilities.

These are some of the trends in lighting design and architecture that are happening and about to happen in the near future. Those working in this field should start learning to embrace these trends today to prepare for smooth transition, stable advancement and sustainable growth.

Seventy two percent of Thai population is expected to live in urban areas by 2050, according to a United Nations report “World Urbanization Prospects: The 2014 Revision”, increasing sharply from 49 percent in 2014 and only 29 percent in 1990.

Globally, 54 percent of the world’s population resided in urban areas in 2014 and by 2050, 66 percent is projected to be urban.

Urbanisation leads to economic growth, but it leaves behind environmental and social problems which require “smart” solutions. The trend becomes more possible with the advancement of • Songdo - South Korea

technology, inspiring most nations to apply greater use of technology in addressing pressing problems that range from inefficient energy use, mountains of waste, safety and traffic congestion to water shortage.

Many cities across the world have boasted their achievements in turning themselves into smart cities.

Songdo in South Korea is renowned for energy efficiency. Its international business district features only 106 buildings but they make up about 40 percent of all LEED-certified space in the country.

Barcelona in Spain is renowned for its lighting use. Lampposts are fitted with boxes containing computer systems

เส้นทางสู่ความเป็น เมืองอัจฉริยะ รายงานขององค์การสหประชาชาติฉบับหนึ่งคาดการณ์ว่าคนไทยร้อยละ 72 จะอาศัยอยู่ในชุมชนเมืองก่อนจะถึงปี 2593 โดยมีอัตราเพิ่มสูงอย่าง รวดเร็วจากร้อยละ 49 ในปี 2557 และร้อยละ 29 ในปี 2533 ในรายงานที่ชื่อ World Urbanization Prospects : The 2014 Revision ยังมีการ คาดการณ์ว่าประชากรทั่วโลกร้อยละ 66 จะอาศัยอยู่ในชุมชนเมือง เพิ่มจากร้อยละ 54 ในปี 2557 การเกิ ด ขึ้ น ของชุ ม ชนเมื อ งสร้ า งการ เติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจ แต่ก็สร้างปัญหาด้าน สิ่งแวดล้อมและสังคมที่ต้องการการแก้ไข แบบ ‘อัจฉริยะ’ ซึ่งความเป็นไปได้มีมากขึ้น เมื่อเทคโนโลยีมีความก้าวหน้ามากขึ้น สิ่งนี้ ท�าให้ประเทศต่างๆ ทั่วโลกน�าเทคโนโลยี มาใช้ แ ก้ ป ั ญ หาที่ มี ตั้ ง แต่ ก ารใช้ พ ลั ง งาน โดยไม่ มี ป ระสิ ท ธิ ภ าพ ขยะปริ ม าณมาก ความปลอดภัย การจราจรทีต่ ดิ ขัด จนถึงการ ขาดแคลนน�้า โดยมีหลายเมืองที่ประสบความส�าเร็จ ในการก้าวสู่การเป็นเมืองอัจฉริยะ เช่น เมืองซองโดที่ประเทศเกาหลีใต้ที่โด่งดัง ในเรื่องประสิทธิภาพการใช้พลังงาน ในเขต เศรษฐกิ จ ที่ เ ป็ น ที่ ตั้ ง ส� า นั ก งานบริ ษั ท นานาชาติมีอาคารแค่ 106 แห่ง แต่มีอาคาร จ�านวนมากที่ได้รับมาตรฐาน LEED ของ สหรัฐอเมริกา มากถึงร้อยละ 40 เมื่อเทียบ กับอาคารทั้งประเทศที่ได้รับมาตรฐานนี้ เมืองบาร์เซโลนาที่ประเทศสเปนโด่งดัง เรื่องการใช้แสงไฟ มีการติดตั้งกล่องตาม เสาไฟ โดยในกล่องมีระบบคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ สามารถวัดปริมาณการจราจรและระดับมลพิษ บนท้องถนน ไฟตามถนนและตามพื้นดิน มีการติดเซ็นเซอร์เอาไว้วัดปริมาณน�้าฝน สืบเนื่องมาจากปัญหาขาดแคลนน�้าในเมือง

which are able to measure traffic levels and road pollution. Sensors are fitted to streetlights and in the ground to measure rainfall, driven by severe drought. The data helps the city modify the sprinkler system to save water.

But according to Juniper Research, a consulting firm, Barcelona is still second to Singapore. Juniper’s Smart City Rankings, completed through an extensive study of cities using 40 metrics covering technology, transport, energy, open data and economy, found that Singapore is a world leader in applying smart mobility policies and technology, while Barcelona was found to be particularly strong with regards to its energy and sustainability policies.

In the top five spots were London, San Francisco and Oslo.

Singapore is doing more and its quest for economic success and sustainability has inspired countries in Southeast Asia including Thailand to follow the footstep.

Malaysia is turning Iskandar, a 2,217sqm special zone in Johor, into a smart city, focusing on six elements – economy, governance, environment, mobility, people and living.

Bandung in West Java, Indonesia, where population grew from 100,000 in 1920 to over 2 million, also seeks to become a smart city to deal with the consequences of rapid growth such as pollution and traffic congestion.

Technology is being used to ensure the city can quickly attend to pressing problems and apply resources efficiently.

Thailand has also unveiled plans for smart cities, in the quest to harness technology in developing human capital, to support Thailand 4.0 digital-economy vision. Phuket and Chiang Mai are selected as the pilot projects. Supported by fibre-optic network, Phuket focuses on 5Es - e-society, e-learning, e-citizen, e-education and e-commerce.

The quest will never end as becoming a true smart city requires the city to create sustainable economic development and high quality of life by excelling in multiple key areas; economy, mobility, environment, people, living, and government.

SECUTECH 2017 ASiA’S LArgEST SECUriTy SoLUTion SHow • Secutech Taipei 2017 ended with a high-profile success. It was the biggest security solution exhibition in Asia held in Taipei, Taiwan, with more than 380 exhibitors. This was akin to a celebration of security solutions being in the business for 20 years. The show was well planned with good floor layout divided into 3 zones; Free & Safety, SMAhome, and Surveillance/Access Control/Energy Saving & ESCO. - Free & Safety Zone: This zone displayed materials, equipment and modern security solutions and presented 3 top trends including Smart Fire & Safety, Fireproof Materials Smart Environment Safety & Sanitation and Smart Homeland. In this zone, I was interested in Simulation System, an emergency situation exercise designed for both leaders and staff participating in emergency drills so that they could rehearse with Vertual Reality (VR).

This would ensure that they are prepared should a real situation happen. This presentation also used IoT sensor to warn of any emergency situations arising from natural disasters in Taiwan. This is not uncommon, given Taiwan’s proximity to Asia’s tectonic plates and its geography among first countries to face tropical storms from the Pacific Ocean.

- SMAHome Zone: This zone had presentations on how to use IoT sensor with smart home. The IoT sensor is a solution to compensate the inability of people to specify whether wireless technology or wireless transmission protocol would be a leading trend in the future. Wifi, Bluetooth, Homeplug or Z-Wave and ZigBee are technologies to help and support senior citizens in their accommodations.

These technologies are safe and can save a lot of energy. In this

zone, I liked products participating in a competition as they have features and qualifications to serve SMAhome.

- Surveillance/Access Control/Energy Saving & ESCO Zone: This zone had the most space and the biggest number of exhibitors. I admired the presentation in this zone because it was not about trying to sell the products but rather it was to showcase various products from the other trade partners ranging from hardware to software application. The product presentation came in the form of smart solutions.

Secutech Taipei 2017 targeted the niche market or the so-called vertical market, which was full of intelligent and good trends such as Smart Home, Smart (Safe) City, Smart Retail, Smart Factory and Smart Transportation. This proved that the security solution trend would bring intelligent technology such as RFID, Biometric, Video Analytics, IoT, Wireless Communication and Mobile Application, to be developed and integrated as compatible solutions for niche markets, not only security technology for the mass.

Conferences, forums and seminars addressing different topics all embraced a common goal in highlighting challenges and proposing solutions in corresponding areas across the vertical markets.

President of Taiwan Association of Disaster Prevention Industry Association, Mr. Jimmy Chou, was the host at Asia Pacific Smart Disaster Prevention Summit & Exhibition. He was thrilled to discuss disaster prevention measures with key stakeholders from other Asian countries.

“The forum encourages interaction between the speakers and audience.

Many experts, government officials and academics from Japan, Thailand and Vietnam have shared their experiences and insights in the future development of disaster preventions. Multiple disaster preventions are especially raised out given its salience in Taiwan and Japan.

The company’s APAC Channel Sales Manager, Mr. Andy Wen, said: “Last year we noticed that the show was changing in a sense that there was a greater visitor flow and many of them were serious buyers. So we decided to exhibit this year in a bid to find and connect endusers here with our agents in Northeast Asia and China. We have invited many of our key customers in Asia to visit the show. At our stand, we display our own hardware devices and organise successful case sharing presented by 12 of our business partners. They are using our products in transportation, factory, IT server room, retail and interior business.

End-users are impressed by the multiple applications and solutions of our products. The collaboration between traditional device and software is definitely one of the main trends of the

different products from various exhibitors.

It allows clients and partners to explore new solutions. The arrangement of the show is good. Halls are categorised according to the sectors under the vertical market respectively. Overall, the result is satisfactory. Manufacturers, partners and clients can access technologies and products they want directly and instantly at the show. I hope Secutech can continue this direction and further delve into the vertical market,” Mr. Chen explained.

The aim of Secutech this year is to strengthen cross-industry collaboration.

Therefore, an effective business matching programme is in place to act as a bridge between exhibitors and buyers. A total of 438 business matching sessions were held and successfully connected 151 exhibitors with 73 buyers.

Among those buyers who found the business matching programme rewarding,

and their products are certified. Besides, they are capable to give me insights on the possible integration solutions. For example, one of the exhibitors provides fire prevention camera that can be connected to our systems. It is absolutely worth visiting Secutech.”

The fair is also a place for buyers to identify up-and-coming industry trends.

Director of Infortek Ltd Mr. Leo Peng was satisfied with the acute business sense presented at the show. “I think Secutech is one of the most professional fairs in the region. I visit the fair to source smart home and smart healthcare products. Both sectors are developing in a fast pace and the market demand is huge. One of the major trends in the industry is the integration of smart home and home security functions. And I can spot this trend from the fair. I found quite many outstanding products such as portable healthcare device. It gave

safety and security industry.”

The reason why Special Intelligent Pavilions for retail, transportation, industrial zone and factory were set up at the show is to demonstrate real world applications and promote cross industry cooperation. Secutech 2017 opened up Next Generation’s Security & Safety Markets in Asia • Secutech concluded its 20th anniversary on a positive note, proving once again to be an important platform for suppliers and buyers to stay at the forefront of the global safety and security market. The show was held from 12 – 14 April 2017 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. During the three-day show, 22,055 visitors from 75 different countries came to seek business collaboration with 372 exhibitors from 13 countries. Every exhibitor showcased their top notch security devices and

solutions across 30,694 sqm exhibition space.

Foreseeing the skyrocketing demand for IoT solutions and connecting devices in the market, Secutech placed great emphasis on bringing together the intelligent solutions of various trending vertical markets to drive cross-industry innovations. Intelligent Special Pavilions and Intelligent Video Analytics Show Room were two examples that served this purpose.

including preparing, handling during disaster and rehabilitating after the incident in a short term like encouraging victims to carry on with daily life in the post-event period and in a long term like preventing and providing knowledge to achieve effective and successful prevention.

- Scope and definition of disaster in your point of view According to the Act and the National Disaster Management Plan, disaster will be divided into 4 levels. Level 1 is minimal. Level 2 is provincial level. Level 3 is a regional effect. The last level is the highest impact which the Prime Minister will command to urge every sector to urgently help solve.

- What is the current situation of domestic and international d i s a s t e r p r e v e n t i o n a n d mitigation? In which level are they in your point of view? Does it need any awareness campaign?

Globally, awareness on disaster prevention and mitigation is very high. At the meeting recently in Sendai, Japan where the Prime Minister participated, more than

100 countries joined and signed the collaboration in disaster management and mitigation. They agreed on the same direction in an effort to minimize risks from disasters and any new ones as much as possible.

- H ow about policy in the upcoming year of 2018? Is it in accordance with the guideline or do you have any detail objective?

At the moment, we have not set an official objective. We need to further study the outline from the Sendai meeting as it does not only involve a single agency but all need to be involved in the issue.

- What is your plan to apply technology with disaster mitigation in Thailand and what is the 2017 policy?

Using technology like other countries do is one of our plans. We have focused on technology over the past decade but it is still in a developmental stage which we need to improve to be more effective.

We set the standard by mainly considering each agency’s working style as well as blending with other countries’

style before making an analysis on which style of Thailand should adopt. That standard should be compatible with other countries including both static and dynamic data which will be used as a base for analysis. If we can analyze and make a notification quickly, safety will be very high. If this is successful, it will be used as a model for others in Thailand 4.0 economic model. Private sector which is involved includes insurance companies which will supply roadside statistics in local areas. This kind of information can be provided for private sector or general public to use.

- Finally, on which level is disaster risk in Thailand?

I can say that Thailand is a lucky country as it is situated in a good geographical location. Any disaster is not severe. But compared to the past, current disaster risk is naturally more severe and more frequent. But Thailand cannot be compared with others which face greater disasters. Monsoon in other countries may turn into a tornado. When it arrives Thailand, it becomes only lower air pressure.

Deputy Director-General The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), The Ministry of Interior Disaster Mitigation and New Guideline in 2017 Natural disaster is close to home and hard to avoid. Disaster and accident prevention became more significant last year as changes in the environment resulting from the leapfrog development, has made climate more unusual and unpredictable. In Thailand, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation under the Ministry of Interior is an agency that copes with disasters with full effort. Supakit Phopapapan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, discusses about the department and guideline which the department will adopt to cope with disaster prevention during 2017-2018.

- Duty and role of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation

The department is responsible for Thailand’s disaster management under the National Masterplan for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act, B.E. 2550 (2007). The department will drive the masterplan which will lead to disaster management integration
