LETTER FROM THE BIGNY PRESIDENT WELCOME TO THE 30TH NEW YORK BOOK SHOW! On behalf of the Board and Executive Committee of the Book Industry Guild of New York, I am so very pleased you have come to join us at the highest point in our seasonal calendar. Inside these pages, and here at the Battery Gardens, we are honored to share with you the best in the art of bookmaking from our remarkable publishing industry. We are proud, through our New York Book Show, to show you the continuing vitality of book publishing as embodied in six genres of publishing: General Trade, Special Trade, Children’s Trade, School, Professional/Reference, and our new category, Self-Published Covers. The works displayed here reflect the creativity and talent of individuals throughout our industry. In keeping with the Guild’s ongoing commitment to enhance literacy, all the books submitted for this Show will be donated to organizations who are dedicated to promoting literacy. The Book Industry Guild of New York is a member-operated, professional, wholly volunteer organization comprised of professionals from every aspect of the book publishing and book manufacturing industries. It is this group of volunteers that make the 30th Annual Book Show possible. Very special thanks go to Christine Davis and Sara Maher, the co-chairs of this year’s event. Their yearlong effort of tireless leadership, guidance, and coordination of the Book Show Committee for all of the many tasks needed results in this spectacular evening! Also, thanks must go to the many volunteers and donors who are listed throughout this catalog for their time, monetary, and/or service donations. Through the dedication of all the volunteers, we can admire this outstanding collection of beautiful books the judges have selected as the best books of 2015. A special note of thanks goes out to Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Neenah, and C&C Offset. They have been our partners in providing space and financial assistance to enable us to present this Show. We are very grateful for their steadfast involvement. Lastly, but not least, as president of the Guild, I would like to thank you for attending this event. As an organization, our greatest assets are our members, both corporate and individual. The New York Book Show contributes to covering basic expenses for our monthly evening programs, literacy efforts, plant trips, and educational seminars. Thank you for your ongoing interest and please enjoy this evening! We are delighted to share this Book Show with you as a celebration of our collective accomplishments. Come join us at any or all of our wonderful events throughout the year that enhance and expand our incredible publishing industry. Everyone is always welcome! Sincerely, Jody Saunders Ray President The Book Industry Guild of New York

ABOUT BIGNY THE BOOK INDUSTRY GUILD OF NEW YORK (BIGNY) is an organization comprised of book publishing and manufacturing professionals. The name was changed in 2010 from the Bookbinders’ Guild of New York in order to more clearly reflect the composition of our membership. In the past few years, meeting topics have broadened to cover a wider range of issues affecting the book business. Our program calendar runs from September to June, featuring one event per month. These events provide occasions for members to learn from guest speakers who are among the leading figures in their fields. It also provides an excellent opportunity to network and socialize. In addition to two major annual events, the Book Barge Bash and the Book Show, the Guild also organizes and co-funds annual field trips to book manufacturers, cover material plants, paper mills, and a book repair facility. As an active supporter of the Literacy Assistance Center of New York (LAC), the Guild has raised more than $300,000 over the past twenty years by sponsoring the annual LAC Recognition Awards breakfast and an annual summer softball tournament in Central Park, featuring raffle prizes and free books for children. If you would like to become a member of the Guild or would like to join one of our organizing committees, please contact any member of the executive board or executive committee, or visit our website at bigny.org.

LETTER FROM THE BOOK SHOW CO-CHAIRS WE ARE SO PROUD TO PRESENT the winners of the 30th Annual New York Book Show. This year’s entries did not disappoint! We were amazed by the quality of submissions across all categories, including our newest category, Self-Published Covers. Welcome, Self-Pubs! We would like to thank the publishers, designers, production supervisors, suppliers, and manufacturers who helped create the most beautiful, innovative, and surprising books of 2015. It was a delight viewing the seemingly endless ways you combined paper and ink. Thank you to the judges for taking the time to review over 600 submissions. We know the number of entries made for a full day of work, but after reviewing comments like, “satisfying tactile and sensory experience,” “there’s a treat on almost every page,” “sensuous text paper,” and, “great use of pink!” we’d like to think you had at least a little fun along the way. A very special thank you to the Board of the Book Industry Guild of New York and members of the Book Show Committee. The names of those involved is on the preceding and following pages. These volunteers contributed countless hours in meetings, over email, and on the floor unpacking, sorting, moving, and re-packing hundreds of books, covers, and jackets. Without their dedication, enthusiasm, humor, and incredible ability to produce snacks, we would not have been able to produce this stunning show. Finally, we would like to thank you for your support of the New York Book Show and the Book Industry Guild of New York. We hope you enjoy the Show, and we look forward to seeing you at future Guild events. Christine Davis Sara Maher Co-Chairs, 30th Annual New York Book Show
