Dezvoltarea Blue Air continuă Blue Air’s development continues

Capricioasă, ca de obicei, luna martie, lună de tranziție între iarnă și primăvară, a trecut, iar în lunile aprilie și mai sperăm că primăvara va veni cu adevărat. Odată cu venirea ei, am bucuria să vă anunț că Blue Air se numără printre companiile aeriene membre IATA (International Air Transport Association) și este certificată IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit). Pentru noi, aderarea la IATA și obtinerea certificării IOSA, reprezintă un pas important în istoria companiei, deschizând ușa parteneriatelor cu alți operatori, membrii ai asociației, pentru a vă putea oferi dumneavoastră, partenerii noștri de încredere, o rețea extinsă de destinații și întotdeauna, așa cum v-am obișnuit, la cele mai atractive prețuri. În acest sens, am dezvoltat bazele noastre operaționale de pe teritoriul Italiei, Cipru și, bineînțeles, a celor din România. Din această vară, aproape că vom dubla numărul aeronavelor din flota Blue Air, de la 15 la 28. Vom avea 14 rute din Torino, cu trei avioane bazate acolo. Baza din Larnaca va beneficia de două aeronave, care ne vor ajuta să ne depășim propriul record în ceea ce privește durata unui zbor: 5 ore și 15 minute pe noua rută Londra – Larnaca.

Ruta internă București – Iași–Bucureşti reprezintă un real succes, fapt ce ne-a încurajat să inaugurăm o nouă rută internă: Bucuresti – Cluj-Napoca – București. Aeronavele din România vor zbura, începând cu această vară, pe 17 noi rute externe, astfel: șapte din București, două din Bacău, trei din Cluj-Napoca, trei din Iaşi, una din Sibiu și una din Constanța. Vă mulțumim că ați ales să zburați la bordul aeronavelor noastre, alături de echipajul Blue Air. Profit de această ocazie să mulțumesc și fiecărui membru din echipa Blue Air, fără de care dezvoltarea companiei nu ar fi fost posibilă.

Whimsical as usual, March, a month of transition between winter and spring, has passed, and in April and May we hope that spring will truly come. With its arrival, I am happy to announce that Blue Air is among the IATA member airlines (International Air Transport Association) and is IOSA certified (IATA Operational Safety Audit). For us, joining IATA and obtaining IOSA certification represents an important step in company's history, opening the door to partnerships with other operators, members of the association, to be able to offer you, our trusted partners, an extensive network of destinations and always, as you already know, the most attractive prices. In this regard, we have developed our operational bases in Italy, Cyprus and, of course, those in Romania. Starting with this summer, we will nearly double the number of aircraft in Blue Air fleet, from 15 to 28. We will have 14 routes from Turin, with three aircraft based there. The base in Larnaca will have two aircraft that will help us to overcome our own record in terms of duration of a flight: 5 hours and 15 minutes on the new London – Larnaca route. The domestic route Bucharest – Iasi – Bucharest is a success, which encouraged us to inaugurate a new domestic route: Bucharest – ClujNapoca – Bucharest. Aircraft in Romania will fly, from this summer, on 17 new external routes, as follows: seven from Bucharest, two from Bacau, three from Cluj-Napoca, three from Iasi, one from Sibiu and one from Constanta. Airfield Festival înseamnă jazz, funk, ska, techno, hip-hop sau rock alternativ. 70 de proiecte muzicale, 3 scene (main-stage generalist, o scenă specială pentru hip-hop şi o scenă electro), şi sistemele de sonorizare de ultimă generaţie se pun la bătaie pentru ca toţi cei prezenţi la festival să aibă parte de o experienţă muzicală unică! Dacă îţi place muzica, dar şi adrenalina, la Airfield se estimează 1.400 de salturi cu paraşuta, 2.300 de plimbări cu balonul şi 300 de ore de zbor. Campionatul Europei de Sud Est, turneul eSports dedicat gamerilor profesioniști, își va încorona campionul pe scena Arenei ESL. East European Comic Con is Eastern Europe's biggest and most important convention, dedicated to all those passionate about movies, TV series, video games, comic books, board games and much more. For the 4th year in a row, East European Comic Con will hold the Romanian qualifiers for European Cosplay Gathering (ECG). The Cosplay costume contest has participants performing a skit, which may consist of a short performed script or dance with optional accompanying audio or video shown on a screen overhead, while impersonating a fictional character of their choosing. DreamHack Bucharest 2016 The digital festival for gamers

For thousands of gaming fans but also for people passionate about the latest digital technology, DreamHack Bucharest is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Un festival de film cât Clujul

TIFF 27 mai - 5 iunie

Practic, TIFF-ul nu mai are nevoie de prezentare. Este un festival care se confundă cu Clujul și care în numere arată spectaculos: 223 filme din 60 de țări selecționate la ediția din 2014, 400 de proiecții ce au adus un număr record de peste 73.000 de plătitori de bilete în sălile de cinema. Timp de 10 zile, Clujul găzduiește proiecțiile gratuite în aer liber, proiecții plătite în săli de cinema sau de teatru, masterclass-uri, workshop-uri, lansări, expoziții sau concerte. De asemenea, în fiecare an TIFF-ul are în jur de 800 de invitați - regizori, producători, actori, profesioniști din industrie, jurnaliști etc. români și străini. Nu este deloc o exagerare să spunem ca TIFF-ul pune România pe harta filmului internațional. Vor fi proiectate filme nominalizate la Oscar sau premiate la festivalurile de renume de la Berlin, Cannes, Veneția, Toronto, Locarno și San Sebastian. A film festival as large as Cluj

When it comes to TIFF, introductions are pointless – it is the festival which became synonymous with Cluj and when you look at the figures it’s pretty clear why: 223 films from 60 countries selected in the 2014 edition, 400 pictures that broke the record with more than 73,000 viewers in front of the cinema screens. For 10 days, Cluj is the host location for open-air free film projections, which otherwise, you’d have to pay to watch them in cinemas or theatre halls, master classes, workshops, launching sessions, exhibitions or concerts. Every year, TIFF gathers around 800 people: film directors, producers, actors, film industry professionals, journalists, both Romanian and foreign. It’s safe to say TIFF has definitely put Romania on the international film map. Oscar-nominated films or pictures awarded at famous film festivals around the world - Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Locarno and San Sebastian – will be presented here. At the same time, this year’s edition will centre on Lithuanian film making industry – film lovers will get the chance to see a selection of Lithuania’s most famous films. The Union Square will be the host of the most spectacular films this year - Baahubali: The Beginning, the 40-million dollar budget making it the most expensive Indian film ever; The King of Havana, a tough and true-tolife portrait of Cuba’s capital in the ‘90s; Te prometo anarquía (Locarno, San Sebastian), Julio Hernández Cordón’s picture; Paulina, Santiago Mitre’s prize-winning film with the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. For 10 days, the entire city of Cluj will be involved in this marathon of masterpieces and will be the host of countless celebrities in the film industry. Two cult films directed by Stanley Kubrick and Sergei Paradjanov will be accompanied by the original music in cine-concerts brought in Romania for the first time and a special Finnish artist, Kimmo Pohjonen, will come to Cluj revealing a unique show. Former Noir Désir guitar player, Serge TeyssotGay, and drummer Cyril Bilbeaud make up the Zone Libre duo, which will stage a modified version, enriched in meanings, of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

În Brașov au loc 3 festivaluri de film care-ți schimbă un pic perspectiva asupra orașului: Love Story, Doc & Roll și Dracula Film Festival.

„În anul 2013 s-a înființat asociația Culturală Fanzin, cu scopul declarat de a organiza evenimente în Brașov. După un studiu de piață, am decis să organizăm un festival de film, un festival de teatru și unul de jazz. După 3 ani, am reușit să organizăm mai multe evenimente, dintre care trei sunt festivaluri de film”, ne-a povestit Marian Gîlea, Președinte al Asociației Culturale Fanzin.

LOVE STORY este festivalul filmelor de dra-

goste, ce are loc în februarie, luna în care Ziua Îndrăgostiților este serbată de 2 ori: 14 februarie (Sfântul Valentin) și 24 februarie (Dragobetele). Pe toată perioada festivalului, o săptămâna în care sunt proiectate în fiecare zi, în mai multe locuri, filme de dragoste sau erotice, Brașovul pare o destinație mai romantică.

DOC & ROLL este un festival dedicat filmelor

documentare de muzică. În trecut, Brașovul găzduia cel mai mare festival de muzică din România - Cerbul de Aur, iar Doc & Roll pare fantoma acestui festival îndrăgit de foarte mulți români. Este o fantomă prietenoasă şi care îți dă o stare plăcută de nostalgie. Three film festivals take Brasov by storm

‘Fanzin Cultural Association was set up in 2013 with the declared target of organising events in Brasov. Following market research, we decided to organise three festivals: for film, theatre and jazz. After three years we managed to organise several events, among which three are film festivals’, says Marian Gilea, the President of the association.

LOVE STORY is the romance films festival

held in February, the month that celebrates the Lovers’ Day twice: 14th February (St. Valentine) and 24th February (Romanian Dragobete). With films being projected every day in several locations in the city, this one-week festival transports Brasov into a romantic destination.

DOC & ROLL is a festival aimed at music

documentaries. In the past, Brasov used to be the host of the largest music festival in Romania - Cerbul de Aur - and Doc & Roll seems to be the ghost of that festival, loved by many Romanians. It is a friendly ghost, however, revealing a nostalgic feeling. Apart from the documentaries showed on cinema screens, there are also concerts held in the city’s clubs and the festival takes place in April.

DRACULA FILM FESTIVAL is a horror &

fantasy films festival, planned for the period around Halloween celebration and enshrouds the whole city in a mysterious and exciting, Twin Peakslike atmosphere. Films from all corners of the world are registered in this competition and are previewed here, sometimes long before making it to the big screen (as the case was

with The Witch and JeruZalem). ‘At the beginning, Dracula Film Festival started from several rhetorical questions: why doesn’t Romania take advantage of the Dracula brand? Why do we allow foreigners to make an industry by exploiting the world’s most famous vampire? Why isn’t there a horror & fantasy film festival in the land of Dracula, in the heart of Transylvania? This is how the idea of a film festival came up, an idea, which has good prospects of becoming something very popular and great, because it is backed by a powerful brand awareness. There is no need for any advertisements, as it speaks for itself. Think about the tourist and economic potential that a Dracula festival might have in Transylvania… It sends shivers down your spine!’, says Marian Gilea.

Brasov is the host of three film festivals that might change your viewpoint on the city: Love Story, Doc & Roll și Dracula Film Festival.

Mr Gilea acknowledges some of the names in the team: Anca Gradinariu (art director), Alin Ludu Dumbrava and Cristian Marculescu (screening), Communication and PR: Simona Radoi. Love Story and Doc & Roll are still the ‘baby brothers’ of Dracula Festival, but they are on the right path. On the other hand, Dracula Film Festival has the chance of becoming a festival that defines Brasov’s cultural life. What are the benefits for Brașov? ‘Countless. Firstly, a film festival that is properly made. Brasov is a big city and it needs a good-quality cultural event. Secondly, the festival is beginning to make a name for itself abroad. We are waiting for the horror & fantasy fans from all corners of the world, we are ready for them!’

Festivalul, iniţiat în memoria regizorului Cristian Nemescu şi a inginerului de sunet Andrei Toncu, decedaţi într-un accident de maşină în 2006, are menirea de a descoperi şi susţine talente internaţionale ale filmului, promovându-le pe plan local, naţional şi internaţional. Un număr de 1.411 filme din 75 de ţări, însumând 21.365 de ore, au fost înscrise pentru ediția din acest an.

Cred că o imagine care să mă reprezinte atât de bine nu putea fi aleasă decât din Holbav. Îl ştiu de-a fir a păr, îi conosc toate locurile şi pe foarte mulţi dintre oamenii lui. Am ales să prezint această fotografie pentru că, din punctul meu de vedere, vorbeşte despre simplitate şi, în acelaşi timp, despre bogăţie. Priviţi bogăţia ierbii cu varietatea de flori şi apoi, vă rog priviţi omul, cu privirea lui. Şi veţi înţelege de ce am ales-o. La sfârşit: vă mulţumesc că aţi privit-o!

Aşa că am luat cea mai bună oglindă pentru ţara noastră, cea care să redea cât mai fidel toate chipurile ţării: imagini cu România realizate de câţiva mari fotografi autohtoni. Am rugat artiştii să aleagă o fotografie cu România care să ilustreze cât mai bine perspectiva lor asupra ţării. Ce a ales fiecare şi de ce găsiţi în acest articol.

Vlad Eftenie Sunt călător şi explorator al oraşului, poate cel mai viu, interesant şi dinamic spaţiu de acţiune fotografică în cheie liberă. Timpul şi spaţiul sunt percepute într-o paletă largă de stări şi senzaţii în oraş, loc în care efemerul aduce vibraţii neaşteptate, într-un dans subtil cu perenitatea zidurilor, şi oferă o experienţă aparte citadinului observator, fotograf. Dincolo de spectacolul străzii, îmi place să privesc spectacolul norilor, să simt adierea vântului, să mă bucur de razele şi culorile apusului, să ascult liniştea, să adulmec aroma aerului. Fotografiind îţi asumi senzorial şi emoţional întreaga experienţă de a fi expus mediului respectiv. Imaginea aleasă este realizată la Piaţa Unirii, profitând de soarele la apus, stropii fântânilor în contralumina caldă oferind un spectacol dinamic, viu.

I am a traveller and explorer of cities, perhaps the liveliest, most interesting and most dynamic space of photographic action. Time and space are perceived in a wide range of moods and sensations, the city is the place where the fleeting moment brings up unexpected vibrations, and provides the photographer with a special experience. Apart from the street life, I like to observe the mystique of the clouds, feel the wind cascading, to enjoy the sunrays and the colours of the sunset, listen to the silence and smell the air. By taking the photo, I sensorially and emotionally imagine the whole experience of being in that respective place. The chosen picture was taken in Unirii Square, taking advantage of the setting sun and the water drops of the street fountains, which offer a lively and dynamic spectacle.

Cam scorojită pe la colţuri, are nevoie de o mână de var, de un cui aici şi-o vopsea colo. E pitorească şi colorată, dar n-ai prea sta în ea, că e cam şubredă. Vorbesc despre căsuţa asta din minuscula piaţă Huet a Sibiului, dar la fel de bine aş putea să vorbesc despre România - îi trebuie o mână de gospodar şi ceva reparaţii structurale, dar ce culori frumoase are şi ce bine dă în poze! N-ai locui neaparat în ea, dar ai arăta-o cu drag altora. It has some walls with paint that is peeling off; it needs some repairs here and there, some fresh paint and some new nails. It’s picturesque and colourful, but you would not necessarily live in it, as it is a bit rickety. I am talking about the house in the little Huet Square in Sibiu, but I might just as well talk about Romania – it needs the skilful hands of a householder and some structural repairs, but just take a look at it, what beautiful colours it has and how great it looks in the pictures! You would not necessarily live in it, but you would gladly show it to others.

Cristina Petrescu În 2011 şi 2012 am avut şansa să fotografiez toată Transilvania din zbor. Fotografia alăturată am făcut-o într-un zbor deasupra Făgăraşilor, chiar după răsărit. Am văzut un peisaj pe care-l am şi acum în gând. Nu cred că am să-l uit vreodată. Vedeam la orizont, pe multe planuri, în penumbra ceţii, crestele Făgăraşilor, printre care şi Vârful Moldoveanu, din partea de sus a cadrului. A fost momentul care mi-a confirmat încă o dată că România e o ţară care, înainte de orice, îţi poate oferi o mulţime de locuri şi amintiri de neuitat. In 2011 and 2012 I had the chance of photographing the entire Transylvania from above. This photo was taken while flying over Fagaras Mountains, right after the sunrise. I saw a breathtaking and unforgettable landscape, which still lingers in my heart today. I saw the Fagaras Mountain range and Moldoveanu Peak in the upper side of the frame, through the mist of the morning, over the horizon and on several levels. That was the moment when Romania reaffirmed once again, that, above all, is a country offering unforgettable places and memories.

Calea Victoriei. O arteră renumită din Capitala României, Bucureşti. O întreagă istorie, care ne aduce aminte de independenţa acestui stat. Din perspectiva unui fotograf, aceasta devine o atracţie deosebită ce poate oferi în fiecare anotimp momente extraordinare. După ce Calea Victoriei a fost reabilitată, bicicliştii pot şi ei circula pe o bandă creată special pentru ei. Din punct de vedere al imaginii, pentru mine este o maximă atracţie, iar clădirile vechi şi monumentele istorice de aici pot bucura imaginaţia oricărui fotograf. Calea Victoriei - a famous street in Bucharest, Romania, a history-laden place reminding us of our independence roots. From a photographer’s perspective, this special attraction offers extraordinary moments all year round. Following the rehabilitation works, the cyclists now have the possibility of riding their bikes on the special cycle paths. From the perspective of the image itself, it’s very attractive and the old buildings and historical monuments present there can bring a lot of joy to any photographer’s imagination.

În fotografie este Haralambie Artiom, pescar din Delta Dunării, de 90 de ani, supranumit de mine „patriarh al deltei”. Locuieşte în satul Mila 23, de unde avem nume sonore ale sportului românesc, precum Ivan Patzaichin şi alţii. Am ales această fotografie pentru semnificaţia multiplă, pentru exemplul viu pe care îl dă acest bătrân, dar şi pentru că delta noastră este o adevărată perlă a României din multe puncte de vedere. În plus, mă leagă o adâncă prietenie plină de respect şi admiraţie faţă de deda Artiom, pe care sper să-l mai văd multă vreme de aici încolo. This photo presents Haralambie Artiom, a 90-year old fisherman from Danube Delta, whom I dubbed ‘delta’s patriarch’. He lives in Mila 23 village, where renowned Romanian sports stars come from, such as Ivan Patzaichin and others. I chose this photo for its multiple meanings and the living example given by this old man but also because the Delta is one of Romania’s jewels. Moreover, I highly respect and admire Artiom whom I truly hope to meet often many years from now.

România este o țară foarte frumoasă, iar asta se datorează printre altele locurilor încântătoare care se găsesc aici, locuri ferite de aglomerație, agitație și zgomot. Unul dintre aceste locuri este Delta Dunării, singura deltă din lume declarată rezervație a biosferei. Delta Dunării este un loc unic, celebru pentru diversitatea de specii care se găsesc aici, dar și pentru faptul că este în continuă extindere, suprafața deltei lărgindu-se anual cu 40 de metri pătrați. Delta Dunării s-a format în urmă cu 5000 de ani și reprezintă apă în proporție de 80%, gridurile fiind singura ei formă de relief, adică limbile de uscat formate din aluviunile depuse de apele Dunării și ale Mării Negre. Tot aici se găsește cea mai mare suprafață compactă de stufăriș de pe glob, dar și cea mai însorită localitate a țării, Sulina, localizată la cea mai joasă altitudine din România. Cea mai frumoasă parte este că toată această zonă poate fi explorată, iar voi vă puteți bucura de toate peisajele superbe pe care le veți vedea, plantele deosebite și sutele de specii de păsări și animale. Locuitorii Deltei profită de acest aspect și vin în ajutorul turiștilor cu tot felul de trasee inedite cu barca, plimbări care vă permit să cunoașteți mai bine zona și să vedeți lucruri cu adevărat speciale.

LOCURI DE VIS DIN DELTA DUNĂRII Delta Dunării a fost binecuvântată cu orășele de poveste pe care trebuie să ajungeți să le vedeți măcar o dată în această viață. În primul rând, aici găsiți singurele păduri de nisip din țară, locuri unde lianele pot ajunge la lungimi de peste 25 de metri. Vorbim despre Letea și Caraorman.

Danube Delta

Romania is indeed a very beautiful country and this is down to the gorgeous landscapes, places that are far from the crowds and the commotion. One of these places is the Danube Delta, the only delta in the world declared as a biosphere reserve. The Danube Delta is unique, famed for the diversity of species found here, as well as for the fact that it is permanently extending, with a yearly increase of 40 meters in the surface of the delta. The Danube Delta was formed 5000 years ago and it is 80% water, while the only type of terrain is represented by formations of dry land resulting from the alluvial deposits of waters from the Danube and the Black Sea. This is also the location for the largest compact area of rush-bed on the planet, as well as the sunniest place in the country, Sulina, which also happens to be located at the lowest altitude in Romania. The best part is that the entire area can be explored, meaning that you can enjoy glorious landscapes, rare plants and hundreds of bird and animal species. The inhabitants of the area are well aware of this and they can take tourists on various boat rides that will allow you to get more acquainted to the area and see truly amazing things.

DREAMY PLACES IN THE DANUBE DELTA The Danube Delta has been blessed with fairy tale cities and you can’t miss the chance to see them at least once in a lifetime. First of all, here you can find the only sand forests in the country, where vines can reach heights of over 25 meters. We are speaking of Letea and Caraorman.

LETEA

Considerată mica junglă a deltei, este cea mai veche rezervaţie naturală din ţara noastră, fiind declarată arie naturală protejată în anul 1938. Aici încă există cai sălbatici care zburdă liberi, iar populația satului este formată din haholi - ortodocşi de rit vechi care respectă calendarul rusesc iulian, însă sătenii urmăresc ambele calendare şi sărbătorile sunt celebrate de două ori. Aici încă se poartă straiul popular.

Deemed as the small jungle of the delta, this is the oldest natural reserve in our country, after it was declared as a protected area in 1938. There are still wild horses running around freely, while the population of the village is made up of ‘haholi’ – old believers of orthodox faith following the Russian Julian calendar. However, the villagers follow both calendars and holidays are celebrated twice. People still wear traditional clothing.

CARAORMAN Dacă ajungeți până aici veți avea poate senzația că ați ajuns într-un basm. Nu, este realitatea - dune de nisip cu înălțimi de peste 10 metri, dar și stejari înalți de 30 de metri, dintre care unul are vârsta de 400 de ani.

SFÂNTU GHEORGHE Atestată încă din anul 1318, localitatea are un farmec aparte și este un loc parcă desprins din Rai. Aici veți găsi insula Sahalin, unde trăiesc păsări foarte rare, dar și canalul Erenciuc, unde se află singura rezervație de arin negru din Europa. Puteți ajunge aici cu barca și vă invităm să ajungeți și în rezervația Melea, loc de cuibărit sau de migraţie pentru coloniile de pelicani, lebede şi cormorani.

CARAORMAN If you reach this place, you will feel like you have just stepped into a fairytale. But it’s not, it’s real – sand dunes reaching heights of over 10 meters, as well as oaks as tall as 30 meters and one of them is actually 400 years old.

SFÂNTU GHEORGHE Attested as early as 1318, the small town has its particular charm and it is almost heavenly. You’ll get a chance to see the Sacalin island, home to very rare species of birds, as well as the Erenciuc channel, the only black alder reserve in Europe. You can reach it by boat and, while you’re there, make sure you also visit the Melea reserve, a nesting or migration place for pelicans, swans and cormorants.

SULINA

Locul unde Dunărea se contopește cu Marea Neagra, dar și cel unde puteți vizita fostul far al Comisiunii Europene a Dunării, construit la începutul secolului al XIX-lea. Oraşul are şase străzi paralele cu Dunărea şi 13 artere perpendiculare pe fluviu - primele sunt numerotate de la I la VI, iar cele din urmă poartă numele unor personalități istorice și literare. Un lucru foarte interesant este că aici se găsește singurul mormânt al unui pirat din România. El se numea Ghiorghios Kontoguris şi a murit pe 25 martie 1871, chiar de Ziua Internaţională a Greciei. Pe piatra sa funerară este inscripţionat pentru eternitate simbolul piraţilor: craniul cu două oase încrucişate.

The place where the Danube meets the Black Sea, as well as the home of the former lighthouse for the European Danube Commission, built at the start of the 19th century. The city has six streets that are parallel to the Danube and 13 main streets heading straight into the river – the first group is numbered from I to VI, while the latter are named after famous individuals. Another interesting fact is that here is the only grave of a pirate in Romania. His name was Ghiorghios Kontoguris and he died on March 25, 1871, ironically, on the Greek Independence Day. His tombstone is forever displaying the famous pirate symbol (skull and crossbones).

Pentru a vă face o idee despre paradisul întâlnit aici, vă oferim câteva exemple de plante și animale inedite. Delta Dunării găzduiește două plante carnivore - una dintre ele este otratelul de balta, iar cea de-a doua se numeste aldrovanda. Noctiluca Miliaris este o altă plantă interesantă prin care valurile apei devin fosforescente (în special în Sfântu Gheorghe).

În Deltă există un fluture imens de noapte, denumit „ochi de păun” care poate avea anvergura aripilor de 18cm. „Ochiul boului” sau pitulice - așa se numește cea mai mică pasăre din România care nu are mai mult de 10 cm lungime. Cea mai mare pasăre prădătoare din Delta Dunării este Vulturul Codalb (Haliaetus albicilla), iar în topul celor mai mari păsări de aici se află Pelicanul cret (Troglodytes troglodytes).

The Danube is also home to a huge species of butterfly, the European Peacock, which can grow a wingspan of 18 cm. The ‘bullseye’ or wren – this is the name of the smallest bird in Romania, with a length that doesn’t exceed 10 cm. The largest praying bird in the Danube Delta is the White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus Albicilla), while the overall largest bird here is the Dalmatian Pelican (Pelicanus Crispus).

Dacă este să vorbim despre animale longevive, atunci aflați că în deltă locuiește țestoasa de uscat (Testudo graeca ibera) și broasca țestoasă de apă (Emy obicularis), care pot atinge vârsta de 120 de ani. Delta Dunării este un adevărat spectacol care nu trebuie ratat! Ascunde atât de multă viață, diversitate și frumusețe, încât ne datorăm să prețuim mereu unicitatea acestui loc din România.

Ai crescut în România dacă ai cel puțin o poză la litoralul Mării Negre acoperit de sus până jos în nămol. Și nu era doar o năzbâtie copilărească; nu, erau cei mai bătrâni care se dădeau cu nămol și îi ungeau și pe copii cu această „cremă” curativă. Dacă pentru cei crescuți în România acesta este un scenariu arhi-cunoscut iar vorbele vânzătorilor „nămolul, ia nămolul” sunt o parte importantă a amintirilor de la mare, pentru străini poate că aceste povești sunt mai degrabă cunoscute sub forma talasoterapiei. Acest tratament terapeutic ce constă în băi de mare asociate cu beneficul aer marin este un fel principal pe care îl puteți servi pe litoralul românesc.

NĂMOLUL, UN SECRET CU TRADIȚIE ANTICĂ Tratamentul cu nămol e o operațiune practicată încă din Egiptul antic. În România, cel mai cunoscut loc pentru o astfel de ședință la „spa” este la lacul Techirghiol, în stațiunea Eforie Nord. AT THE BLACK SEA

You were probably raised in Romania if you have at least one picture taken of you covered in mud from head to toe, on the coast of the Black Sea. What’s more, this wasn’t some childish thing to do; no, the elders used to cover themselves in mud and then they would also cover the kids with this healing ‘lotion’. For those who grew up in Romania, this is quite a familiar scenario, while the words ‘mud, come get mud’ are an important part of their seaside memories. However, foreigners might know these stories better under the concept of thalassotherapy, a form of therapeutic treatment in baths benefiting from sea air, and you will be delighted to learn that this is one of the main activities on the Romanian coast.

MUD, AN ANCIENT SECRET Mud treatment dates back as far as ancient Egypt. In Romania, the most popular place for this sort of ‘spa’ sessions would be the Lake Techirghiol, which is located in the Eforie Nord resort. Here, you will also find two centers specialising in such treatment, the Mirage Medspa Hotel and Ana Aslan Hotel&Spa, places from which you will definitely leave younger and healthier. However, before you take your first mud bath, let us provide you with some history on this natural treatment. Allegedly, Lake Techirghiol was discovered by the Roman legions stationed in Dobrogea, since it happened to be located on the main road between the ancient cities of Tomis and Callatis. People say that Roman women would soften their skin by covering it with this black and smelly ‘lotion’. Yet, the first records mentioning this miraculous mud belong to Ottoman commanders, who around the 1800s, were taking mud baths

În atestările cu fir istoric se strecoară și o legendă care să facă lucrurile mai interesante, una care spune că a existat un bătrân olog și orb, Techir, care mergea pe un măgar și care a rămas împotmolit în acest nămol urât mirositor. Tot chinuindu-se să iasă, și-a dat seama că a început să vadă și că își poate folosi picioarele. O statuie din zonă marchează legenda de la care se spune că își trage lacul numele. Lăsând poveștile la o parte, un lucru e sigur. Nămolul a început să fie folosit în terapii la Techirghiol la mijlocul secolului XIX. Unul dintre ambasadorii nămolului curativ a fost Ioan Movilă, un latifundiar român, care în anul 1895 a început un program de exploatare și promovare a resurselor naturale de pe litoral. Ineditul acestui tip de tratamente a atras și câțiva specialiști străini alături de cei români, care au venit să studieze efectele nămolului. După confirmarea calităților terapeutice ale lacului și nămolului, Ioan Movilă a început construirea de hoteluri și vile în jurul lacului, precum și un sanatoriu și o școală de chirurgie osteo-articulară, aceștia fiind primii pași ca România să devină o destinație renumită pentru turismul de litoral. Mai mult, în urma studiilor realizate, nămolul de la Techirghiol a fost premiat la Expoziția Universală de la Paris din 1924, devenind apoi o celebritate internațională.

The story says that there once was an old man, crippled and blind, going by the name of Techir, who was riding his donkey and got stuck in this reeking mud. As he was attempting to get out, he realized that he was now able to see and even use his legs. A nearby statue marks the legend that is said to have given the name of the lake. Putting all stories aside, one thing is for sure. In the middle of the 19th century, mud was already being used therapeutically at Techirghiol. One of the ambassadors of the healing properties of mud was Ioan Movilă, a Romanian squire, who, in 1895, started a plan to exploit and promote the natural resources of the seaside. The unusual nature of this treatment has drawn the attention of several foreign experts, as well as Romanians, who came to study the benefits of mud. After the therapeutic advantages of the lake and the mud were confirmed, Ioan Movilă started to build hotels and mansions around the lake, as well as a nursing home and an osteoarticular surgery school, which were the first steps for Romania to become a renowned destination for coastal tourism. Moreover, as a result of further studies, the Techirghiol mud was awarded at

the Paris World Fair in 1924 and rose to international fame.

telian Juganu este un tânăr care a cunoscut pe pielea lui efectele benefice ale unor oameni buni care au ales să îşi petreacă o parte din timpul lor (chiar şi limitat) pentru a-i ajuta pe cei care au cu adevărat nevoie. S-a născut la Bucureşti, a crescut într-un orfelinat din Cluj, iar în timpul facultăţii a făcut cunoştinţă cu voluntariatul. De atunci şi până în ziua de astăzi, deşi salariat, este şi voluntar. Promovează voluntariatul peste tot. Pentru că el ştie că schimbă vieţi. Despre vise împlinite şi voluntariat vorbim cu Stelian Juganu.

Ce înseamnă pentru tine să fii voluntar?

Să îţi pese de cei din jur, trecând la schimbare prin acţiune. Adică ajutându-i pe cei ce au nevoie de sprijinul tău, chiar dacă voluntariatul este realizat pe o perioadă de timp determinată (cum ar fi desfăşurarea unor activităţi de recreere destinată unor tineri sau unor persoane vârstnice) sau nedeterminată. Voluntarul are puterea de a produce schimbare prin dăruirea lui!

Câţi ani aveai când ai făcut prima acţiune de voluntariat şi în ce a constat aceasta?

Nu voi uita niciodată perioada când am început să fac voluntariat! Aveam 23 de ani şi eram în primul an de facultate, când am aflat de o organizaţie non-guvernamentală din Cluj care recruta voluntari pentru acţiuni administrative ale entităţii respective. Nu ştiam ce înseamnă să fii voluntar, însă simţeam că pot şi trebuie să contribui cumva. Şi sunt foarte mândru de decizia luată!

telian Juganu is a young man who felt firsthand the beneficial effects of a group of kind-hearted people that have voluntarily chosen to give their time (sometimes limited) to those in need of help. He was born in Bucharest, grew up in a childcare centre in Cluj but it was during his time at University when he discovered volunteering. Up to this day, though employed, he also volunteers. He promotes volunteering everywhere because he knows how it can change lives. We discuss with Stelian Juganu about dreams fulfilled and volunteering.

What does volunteering mean to you?

Being a volunteer means to care about those around you, trying to change things through action. This means helping those that need your help, even though volunteering activities are done on either a limited timeframe (for instance, recreational activities aimed at youngsters or senior citizens) or indefinitely. The volunteer has the power to trigger the change through his/her commitment!

How old were you when you first became a volunteer and what exactly did you do? I will never forget my first volunteering days! I was 23 years old in my first year of college when a NGO in Cluj was recruiting volunteers for their administrative tasks. I did not know what volunteering meant but I had the feeling that I could and I had to bring my contribution to this world. I am proud of the decision I made!

Voluntariatul mi-a schimbat viaţa, fără nicio îndoială! Am devenit o persoană mai încrezătoare, mai responsabilă, mai deschisă spre provocări, mai comunicativă şi dornică de a-mi schimba prin fapte lumea şi pe cea din jur!

Copilăria ta nu a fost tocmai uşoară, ai crescut într-un orfelinat. Au existat în copilărie voluntari care au avut o influenţă pozitivă asupra ta?

O voluntară m-a pregătit pentru examenul de Capacitate. Îmi doream foarte mult să plec din orfelinat pentru a începe o nouă viaţă, pentru a da examen la liceu şi a termina o facultate. Ea s-a oferit să-mi asigure pregătirea la limba română iar o colegă de-a sa m-a pregătit la matematică. Pot spune că doamna respectivă mi-a schimbat viaţa pentru că a crezut în mine şi a investit din timpul ei pentru cineva dintr-o casă de copii. Am menţionat acest lucru pentru că este o binecuvântare să întâlneşti într-o instituţie închisă un om care să creadă în tine şi să te şi încurajeze să dai viaţă viselor tale. În instituţiile închise angajaţii au o singură părere despre cei instituţionalizaţi: nu vor realiza nimic în viaţă, nu sunt buni de nimic. Ei bine, eu am întâlnit unul din puţinii oameni ce miau fost alături în procesul schimbării!

Acum câţiva ani ai scris cartea autobiografică «Vise împlinite». Te-a ajutat cartea să te regăseşti? Să te împaci cu trecutul tău? Să fii mai recunoscător pentru tot ce ai acum? Imaginează-ţi că această carte a fost scrisă în aproximativ cinci ani, deşi are doar o sută de pagini. A durat aşa de

mult, pentru că nu a fost deloc confortabil să retrăiesc anumite momente pe care le doream uitate. Mi-am acceptat destinul, iar ceea ce aveam să fac mai departe era să lupt pentru a mă „integra” cumva în societate, fără a evidenţia trăirile mele din copilărie. Cred că am reuşit cu succes acest lucru! M-am bucurat că, fiind susţinut emoţional de o persoană dragă mie, până la urmă am reuşit să finalizez cartea, pentru că prin intermediul ei am avut posibilitatea de a mulţumi public tutoror celor care mi-au fost alături cândva, cumva în drumul meu spre dezvoltarea personală şi cea profesională. Prin urmare, autobiografia «Vise împlinite» este şi o carte a gratitudinii, nu doar o publicaţie în care înşir cele mai importante vise ale mele devenite realitate.

În ce proiecte te implici acum ca voluntar?

La ora actuală nu pot spune că am un proiect în care să mă implic sută la sută, din cauza programului destul de încărcat pe care îl am la serviciu. Dar asta nu înseamnă că voluntariatul nu este mereu prezent în viaţa mea, o fac ori de câte ori mi se oferă ocazia în cadrul Asociaţiei Femeilor de Afaceri Cluj (care desfăşoară o serie de proiecte culturale, sociale şi pe educaţie) şi în rest voluntariez ocazional pentru diferite ONG-uri prin activităţi pe care le pot desfăşura de acasă (ex. monitorizare presă, centralizare date în calculator).

Volunteering undoubtedly changed my life! I am more self-confident, more responsible, open to new challenges, more outgoing and willing to change my world and the world around me through my actions!

Your childhood was not exactly smooth, as an orphan you had to live in a childcare centre. Were there any volunteers, back in your childhood that positively influenced your life?

A volunteer tutored me for my secondary education examinations. I desperately wanted to leave the institution and start a new life, to pass the high-school examination and graduate from college. The volunteer offered to tutor me for the Romanian classes and one of her colleagues helped me with Maths. She definitely changed my life because she believed in me and invested her time in an institutionalised kid. I choose to mention this, as it’s a real blessing to meet, in a closed institution, a person who believes in you and encourages you to live your dreams. In those institutions, the employees had only one opinion about the institutionalised people: they will never accomplish anything in their lives, they are good-for-nothing. Well, I have had the luck of meeting one of the few people who was there beside me during the change!

A couple of years ago you wrote the autobiography ‘Dreams Fulfilled’. Did it help you rediscover yourself, make peace with your past and be grateful for what you have now? It took me five years to write this book, despite it having only one hundred pages. It took me that long because it was very uncomfortable for me to re-live certain experiences that I wanted to forget. I have accepted my destiny and decided that I had to fight in order to integrate with society, without emphasising my childhood traumas. I believe I did this successfully! I was very happy that I managed to finish the book due to the emotional support of a person very dear to my heart, that also gave me the opportunity to publicly thank all those who were behind me in various times of my life, on my way to personal and professional development. Therefore, the autobiography ‘Dreams Fulfilled’ is a book on gratitude, not just a publication where I list my dreams that came true.

Eşti membru de onoare al asociaţiei FEDEREII (Asociaţia Adulţilor din Casele de Copii). Spune-ne câteva cuvinte despre asociaţie, care-i sunt scopul şi proiectele.

Asociaţia în cadrul căruia am fost numit membru de onoare este o organizaţie non-guvernamentală, nonprofit, ce a fost creată de adulţi care au crescut în case de copii. FEDEREII şi-a propus să ofere variante de integrare socială adulţilor ce au cunoscut experienţa instituţionalizării, cât şi tinerilor ce se află în acest moment în astfel de instituţii, însă se pregătesc să le părăsească. What are the benefits of volunteering for one’s soul?

Firstly, the fact that you changed someone else’s life through your active involvement, be it for a couple of hours or days, gives you a tremendous satisfaction. I should also mention with the growth of social network so does the possibility of getting involved in various projects with real impact, the opportunity of gaining the long-awaited professional experience, the chance of getting to know important people within your community with whom you could develop long-term projects and so much more.

Can you name some NGOs that are dear to your heart, which might be the right places to get started for those who wish to take up volunteering?

All of them are dear to my heart, I could not single one out. Quality volunteering can be done in a small NGO just as well as in a reputed one. After all, with volunteering, all that matters is to be yourself and get involved 100%! In time, the volunteer will be able to reap the rewards of their commitment!

Imaginile și cuvintele se completează în universul Ioanei. Am întrebat-o ce urmărește atunci când face poze sau când scrie. „Am citit la un moment dat că fotografiem lucrurile pe care ne temem că le vom pierde. Pentru mine asta înseamnă frumusețea și libertatea, încerc să le pun într-un plan universal. Cred că nimeni nu urmărește altceva decât să facă oamenii să simtă.” Casapu scrie în fiecare zi despre lucrurile perfect omenești care ne intrigă, cele despre care vorbește toată lumea sau despre care nu îndrăznim să vorbim cu voce tare. Excepție face poezia - aceasta se întâmplă necontrolat și neprogramat, motiv pentru care își ține mereu telefonul încărcat și spațiu suficient în aplicația Notes.

Images and words go hand in hand in Ioana’s world. I asked her what her purpose is when she is writing or taking pictures. ‘I once read that we take photos of those things we are afraid of losing. To me this is beauty and freedom; I am trying to make them universal. I guess everybody’s purpose is to make others feel something.’ Casapu writes daily about intriguing humane topics, those that are on everybody’s lips and those usually people don’t dare to speak of. The exception is poetry – this takes place in an uncontrolled and unplanned manner. That is why she always keeps her phone charged and plenty of space in her Notes app.

Poezia și imaginea sunt un limbaj universal care, independent de transformări, vor continua să aducă oamenii mai aproape de ei înșiși, și unii de alții. Mie îmi place să stau de vorbă cu oamenii și să îi ajut să se apropie de visurile lor, așa că asta voi continua să fac, independent de mediu. Cred că acesta e biletul de avion câștigător.”

‘It is an arts/humanities community exploring basic human emotions and the way these emotions lead to art. A collection of personal essays, poetry, paintings, graphic works, illustrations or digital art, promoting empathy, vulnerability and the power of inspiration, supporting artists and authors from all times and parts of the world’, says Ioana. Ioana’s work currently means reading, research and curatorship. ‘I start my day in a café, looking at my inbox which is full of messages, poems, letters and applications from various artists who wish to be published or just want to say hello. Art Parasites is about empathy and closeness, multiple contexts in which the creative act makes us explore natural emotions, and the messages we receive can be the foundation of an international social-cultural analysis, for instance. There are vulnerable messages of longing and love, letters for distant lovers, parents believing in their children’s talent and who wish to make their works known to the entire world, personal essays questioning feminism and femininity, sexual and speech freedom, life in wartorn areas, terrorism or political oppression. There are sincere and brave people who write to us, with the desire and the intuition of deconstructing the still-persistent taboos around topics like body image, beauty patterns, emotional, physical or political abuse, in a context in which art and literature became widely accessible to everybody and free of economic barriers, due to the Internet.’

For many years, I have non-verbally fought against the way virtual communication alters our inner structure and the relationship with ourselves. Poetry and image are part of a universal language which, independently from any transformation, will continue to bring people closer to themselves and to each other. I like talking to people and help them get closer to their dreams and I believe this is what I will keep on doing regardless. I believe this is the winning flight ticket.’

tuttgart este al şaselea oraş ca mărime din Germania, având aproximativ 590.000 de locuitori, şi este capitala landului Baden – Wurttemberg, precum şi a regiunii istorice Svabia. Datorită importanţei sale culturale, economice şi administrative, este unul dintre cele mai renumite oraşe germane, iar regiunea Stuttgart reprezintă a patra conurbaţie ca mărime din ţară. La fel ca majoritatea marilor oraşe europene, Schduagert – denumirea Svaba a Stuttgartului – are numeroase faţete ce aşteaptă să fie descoperite. Cu noi, românii, are o legătură specială, fiindcă se află în apropierea izvoarelor Dunării din munţii Pădurea Neagră. Pasionaţii de literatură şi dramaturgie universală ştiu cu siguranţă faptul că faimosul Friederich von Schiller s-a născut în Marbach am Neckar, un orăşel de lângă Stuttgart. Pentru întreaga lume însă, reprezintă locul de naştere al automobilului modern şi punctul de plecare al industriei auto mondiale, oraşul unde a fost construit prototipul faimosului Volkswagen Beetle. Mai mult decât atât, 21% dintre angajaţii din Stuttgart lucrează în industrii de înaltă tehnologie, ceea ce nu este de mirare având în vedere că peste 4 miliarde de euro sunt investiţi aici anual în cercetare şi dezvoltare. Afacerile sunt importante pentru Stuttgart, dar asta nu înseamnă sub nicio formă că atât localnicii, cât şi milioanele de turişti ce vizitează anual oraşul, nu au şi numeroase oportunităţi de divertisment. Orice vizită trebuie să înceapă din Piaţa Palatului, centru al vieţii culturale şi placă turnantă pentru majoritatea atracţiilor din Stuttgart. Aici, precum şi în restul oraşului şi al regiunii, au loc pe tot parcursul anului festivaluri, târguri şi expoziţii ce ridică pulsul vieţii citadine. Cel mai cunoscut este Festivalul Primăverii, dar la fel de populare sunt şi târgurile de Crăciun, festivalul ciocolatei ChocolART, festivalul berii, etc.

Business matters in Stuttgart but this does not mean that the inhabitants or the hordes of tourists visiting the city every year do not have countless opportunities of having fun. All visits should begin with the Schlossplatz, the Palace Square, the heart of cultural life and the setting for most of Stuttgart landmarks. Throughout the year, the place hosts festivals, fairs and exhibitions that bring the city life to its peak. The most renowned is the Spring Festival, but the others are just as popular – Christmas fairs, ChocolART Festival or the beer festival.

Stuttgart a rămas în istoria arhitecturii moderne, aici fiind construită, în anul 1927, aşezarea Weissenhof – în fapt o expoziţie de clădiri ce ilustrează Stilul Internaţional al Arhitecturii Moderne.

Stuttgart left its mark on the modern architecture with the Weissenhof estate, built in 1927, a cluster of buildings representative of the International Style of Modern Architecture.

În cadrul acesteia, 17 arhitecţi europeni printre care şi celebrul Le Corbusier au lucrat sub îndrumarea arhitectului german Mies van der Rohe şi au proiectat 21 de clădiri ce ilustrau caracteristicile stilului modernist – faţade şi volume simple, terase, ferestre largi, etc. Pasionaţii de arhitectură pot vizita şi astăzi clădirile ce au supravieţuit bombardamentelor din cel de-al doilea Război Mondial, precum şi muzeul expoziţiei Weissenhof, amenajat chiar într-una dintre casele originale proiectate de Le Corbusier.

The estate was built by 17 European architects - among whom famous Le Corbusier - who worked under the guidance of German architect Mies van der Rohe and designed 21 buildings showcasing the modernist style – simple facades and volumes, flat roofs as terraces and large windows. The architecture lover can visit the buildings that survived the Second World War raids and the Weissenhof exhibition museum located in one of the original dwellings designed by Le Corbusier.

Demne de văzut şi reprezentative pentru imaginea oraşului sunt şi Biblioteca Municipală, proiectată de arhitectul sud-coreean Eun Young Yi şi deschisă în anul 2011, precum şi mai vechea Neue Staatsgalerie, opera arhitectului britanic James Stirling. Aceasta din urmă realizează o tranziţie fluidă, folosindu-se şi de panta naturală a terenului, între arta clasică a Vechii Galerii şi arta modernă a celei Noi. Însă nu doar simplitatea şi rigoarea arhitecturii moderne sunt emblematice pentru Stuttgart. La 20km de centru, în orăşelul Plochingen, poate fi vizitată una dintre creaţiile artistului vienez Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Amintind de proiectele catalane ale celebrului arhitect Gaudi, casele lui Hundertwasser sunt caracterizate de forme organice, culori vii, placaje ceramice şi terase cu vegetaţie. De asemenea, numeroase castele şi palate datând din perioada ducatului Württemberg pot fi admirate în jurul oraşului Stuttgart – Palatul şi Parcul Winnental, Castelul Bad Urach, Castelul Hiltenburg, etc. Stuttgart este, aşadar, un oraş cu multe arome – istorie, vivacitate, inovaţie, artă. tena este un oraș impresionant, din mai multe puncte de vedere. Văzută de sus, pare o aglomerație de clădiri albe, ca de cretă, fără sfârșit. Monumentele care ies în evidență în tot acest peisaj sunt rămășițele unor legende ce stau la bazele civilizației și a multor povești nu doar impresionante, dar care fac parte din ADN-ul oricărui european. Atena, ca leagăn al civilizației vestice, nu e un clișeu, ci o realitate pe care o simți pe deplin atunci când îi iei străzile la pas și te pierzi printre vestigiile celor 2500 de ani de istorie, care se amestecă cu clădiri moderne, dar și cu peisaje mai sordide - efecte ale unor probleme ce amenință întreaga Europă.

Chiar și așa, legendele de aici au văzut vremuri și mai întunecate și au supraviețuit, așa cum vor face și acum. De asemenea, în ciuda problemelor Greciei, prezentate în toate jurnalele de știri, orașul rămâne la fel de primitor și fermecător cu turiștii. Pentru cei care vin aici pentru prima dată, există câteva vizite obligatorii: Teatrul lui Dionisos, Acropole - cea mai cunoscută citadelă antică din lume, Agora, Forumul Roman cu Turnul Vânturilor, Templul lui Zeus Olimpianul, Biblioteca lui Adrian şi Kerameikos, cimitirul antic al Atenei.

La intrarea în Acropole, vizitatorii sunt întâmpinați de un vestibul din coloane imense. De aici începe drumul spre Parthenon şi Erechteionul, două măreţe sanctuare dedicate Atenei şi lui Poseidon. Legenda spune că cei doi zei s-au luptat pentru acest oraș, ambii aducând ofrande grecilor: Poseidon - marea, Atena - măslinul. Grecii l-au preferat pe cel din urmă. De aceea, în antichitate, la Acropole se afla și o impunătoare statuie de aur a zeiței Atena. În același timp, priveliștea de aici este superbă și îți poți da ușor seama de ce a fost ales locul acesta pentru ridicarea unor construcții de legendă.

thens is an impressive city and when seen from above, the countless cramped chalkwhite buildings are all you can set your eyes upon. The landmarks that stand out in this setting are the remains of legends that lay the foundations of our civilisation. Not only are they impressive, they are also part of our European DNA. Athens is the cradle of Western civilisation and this is not a cliché, but a reality we feel whenever we take a stroll on its streets and meander through its 2500-year-old ruins, combined with modern buildings and some sordid landscapes – the effects of problems

that pose a threat to the entire Europe. Despite everything, Greek legends witnessed and survived even darker times, exactly as they are going to do now. In spite of Greece’s financial problems, broadcasted in all news bulletins, the city preserves its warmth and charm. For those who visit Athens for the first time, there are some mandatory places to see, such as Theatre of Dyonisus, Acropolis – the most famous ancient structure, Agora, Roman Agora and the Tower of the Winds, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Library and Kerameikos, Athens’ ancient cemetery.

Acropolis greets its visitors with a hallway of huge columns – here begins the road to Parthenon and Erechtheion, two majestic sanctuaries dedicated to Athena and Poseidon. Legend has it that the two gods fought over this city, both of them bringing offerings to the Greeks: Poseidon – the sea, Athena – the olive tree. The Greeks chose the latter and ancient Acropolis boasted an imposing golden statue of Athena. The view from up here, on the other hand, is breathtaking and one can easily realize why this place was chosen for the legendary constructions.

erhaps too often overshadowed by lively Barcelona, Lisbon fights its way on the list of unmissable fairytale destinations. The Portuguese city is a corner of heaven on Earth and we are not very generous in granting this title to many cities – from welcoming and friendly people, to great music and breathtaking landscapes, Lisbon has them all.

Oraşul din Portugalia este un colţ de Rai pe acest pământ şi nu de multe spunem acest lucru - de la oameni calzi şi prietenoşi, până la muzică şi peisaje superbe, Lisabona le are pe toate. Deşi se confruntă cu probleme financiare, oraşul nu lasă nimic la vedere şi parcă s-a închis într-o bulă fermecată - vremea este călduroasă tot timpul anului, oamenii sunt vizibil zâmbitori şi amabili (de la cei care te servesc în restaurante şi până la localnicii pe care-i opreşti să le ceri indicaţii), există nenumărate spaţii verzi, aveţi marea la doi paşi, iar în ceea ce priveşte bucătăria, va aşteaptă un adevărat răsfăţ culinar. Pentru că ne dorim ca voi să aveţi parte de o experienţă completă, am făcut o listă de lucruri pe care să le faceţi odată ajunşi în acest oraş de vis.

LITTLE STREETS

If you are a Lisbon first-timer, you should explore the city by foot – take a stroll through its little streets and you will understand better its history and the local way of life. You will see drying racks outside windows, wonderful architectural feats and quite often you might get the feeling that you’ve arrived in Instagram central, where everything around you is worth being photographed (moreover, no filter needed!). Alfama is the oldest area in the city and you cannot miss it, mainly because here you will discover many local people and the experience will be genuine. Bairro Alto is a young and popular neighbourhood – during daytime the area seems deserted but in the afternoon all bars

LISABONA „DE SUS” ambulanţi, tapas, cocktailuri bune (Morangoska şi Caipirinha sunt obligatorii), muzică. Distracţia se mută în stradă şi nu aveţi cum s-o rataţi.

TRAMVAIUL 28

Cel mai popular şi celebru mijloc de transport al oraşului este tramvaiul numărul 28 (de evitat la ora prânzului când este foarte aglomerat). Acesta merge în principalele zone şi cartiere ale oraşului, iar în plus este vintage, aşa că veţi avea parte de o experienţă autentică. Tramvaiele sunt construite în 1930, deci vă sfatuim să nu vă aşteptaţi la cea mai confortabilă experienţă.

FADO

Lisabona înseamnă Fado - acest gen muzical, tradus prin „soartă” sau „destin”, care ascunde poveşti despre oraş, viaţă şi iubire. Chiar dacă nu înţelegeţi limba, mai mult ca sigur veţi simţi emoţia melodiilor. În cartierul Alfama veţi găsi multe locuri tradiţionale de Fado (declarat moştenire culturală intangibilă de UNESCO în 2011), aşa că va rugăm să nu rataţi această experienţă.

Un drum pe jos până la castelul St. George nu este unul uşor, însă priveliştea de acolo de sus, punctul final al destinaţiei voastre, este copleşitoare. Veţi vedea întreg oraşul de la baza marii şi veţi visa cu ochii deschişi, fără să vă mai doriţi să plecaţi de aici.

PRODUSELE DE PATISERIE

Seara, pe străzile oraşului, veţi vedea vânzători ambulanţi de pâine cu salam făcută în casă. Este un sandviş tradiţional pe care trebuie să-l încercaţi. Pe primul loc când vorbim despre mâncare punem însă Pastéis de Nata, prăjiturelele Lisabonei cu crema de vanilie, delicioase! Locul de unde provin se numeşte Belém, un orăşel micuţ la care puteţi ajunge în câteva minute cu trenul şi unde va recomandăm să mergeţi. De reţinut este că orice produs de patiserie găsit în oraş este gustos şi proaspăt, aşa că nu ezitaţi să încercaţi din toate câte puţin.

GINJINHA

Ginjinha este un lichior tipic portughez, făcut din cireşe, dulceag şi extrem de bun. Cel mai popular bar unde să-l încercaţi se numeşte A Ginjinha şi-l găsiţi pe Rossio, Largo de São Domingos 8. O sticlă de Ginjinha poate fi şi un bun suvenir, aşa că nu ezitaţi să va cumpăraţi şi pentru acasă.

TRAM 28

Fado

Lisbon means Fado – a music genre translated as ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’, which hides profound stories about the city, life and love. You will most certainly feel the emotions and vibes of the songs, even if you do not understand the lyrics. You will discover in Alfama neighbourhood many traditional Fado places (in 2011, Fado music was included on the UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list), which we warmly invite you to visit.

DRUMEŢII LA CASCAIS ŞI SINTRA

Cascais ascunde plaje micuţe şi populare şi este doar la 20 de minute de mers cu trenul din Lisabona. Puteţi face plajă şi baie sau doar să mâncaţi bine la restaurantele tradiţionale, să va plimbaţi pe străduţe şi să vă bucuraţi de priveliştea sublimă. Sintra este la 40 de minute de mers cu trenul şi este un orăşel plin de castele, micuţ, care ascunde un parc minunat, cu tot felul de arbori exotici şi flori interesante. Nu vă minţim când vă spunem că veţi avea senzaţia că aţi ajuns într-un basm.

CABO DA ROCA

Aici veţi găsi cel mai vestic punct al Europei continentale şi pare că sunteţi la capătul pământului. Nu sunt multe de văzut - un far, un restaurant şi un magazin de suveniruri, însă imaginea de ansamblu merită! Nu uitaţi să vă luaţi un pulover la voi, deoarece vântul bate foarte tare! Puteţi ajunge şi din Cascais şi din Sintra luând autobuzul 403.

CACILHAS

Pe celălalt mal al râului Tagus, există acest orăşel. Puteţi lua vaporaşul de la Cais de Sodré şi în 10 minute aţi ajuns. Este renumit pentru restaurantele sale cu fructe de mare proaspete, aşa că dacă va plac, trebuie să-l puneţi pe listă. În Lisabona, va recomandăm să încercaţi tocmai acele restaurante care nu par ultra moderne şi simandicoase, deoarece fix aici veţi găsi cele mai bune mâncăruri, la preţuri accesibile. Dacă vreţi să va simţiţi ca un adevărat localnic, atunci aşezaţi-vă la o cafenea, relaxaţi-vă şi priviţi oamenii din jurul vostru, asta fac portughezii! Poate ar trebui să le luăm şi noi exemplul mai des, nu ziceţi?

PASTRIES

In the evening, the streets of the city are filled with street vendors selling homemade bread with salami. This is a traditional sandwich and you definitely have to try it. When discussing about food, however, the first place is taken by Pastéis de Nata, the delicious custard tart of Lisbon! We highly recommend you visiting their place of origin – Belém - a little town just a couple of minutes away by train. All pastries in the city are tasty and fresh, so do not hesitate to try a little bit of all the goodies.

GINJINHA

Ginjinha is traditional Portuguese liquor made of ginja berries, sweet and very tasty. The most popular bar serving this drink is A Ginjinha, located on Rossio, Largo de São Domingos 8. A bottle of Ginjinha can also be a great souvenir idea for loved ones back home.

TRIPS TO CASCAIS AND SINTRA Coastal town Cascais hides small and popular beaches and is just a 20-minute train ride from Lisbon. You can sunbathe and go for a swim, or just have a great lunch or dinner in the traditional restaurants, stroll on the little streets and enjoy the great view. Sintra is just 40 minutes away, by train, and is a little town boasting several castles, a wonderful park with all types of exotic trees and flowers, all creating a fairy-tale setting.

CABO DA ROCA

This is continental Europe’s most western point and it might feel like reaching the end of the world. There are not many landmarks to visit – just a lighthouse, a restaurant and a souvenir shop, but the landscape is totally worth it! Don’t forget to take a cardigan with you, as the winds are quite strong! You can reach this place either from Cascais or from Sintra with bus 403.

CACILHAS

This little town is located on the other side of the Tagus River and is just a 10-minute boat ride from Cais de Sodré. It is renowned for its fresh seafood restaurants, therefore, add it to your wish list if you like seafood. In Lisbon, we recommend you try those restaurants that do not seem modern or sophisticated, because there you will find the best dishes at reasonable prices. If you like to experience the local way of life, take a seat at a cafe, relax and just watch the people walking around you! This is what the Portuguese do and perhaps we should follow their example more often, don’t you agree?

Aţi fost în România de mai multe ori, dar cum aţi descrie muzica Dubioza Kolektiv celor care nu au auzit niciodată de voi?

Suntem un colectiv unit de 8 oameni cu rădăcini în regiunea Balcanilor, cu membri din Bosnia şi Herţegovina, Croaţia, Serbia şi Slovenia. Facem muzică foarte zgomotoasă, iar între piesele din concert, glume teribil de proaste şi incorecte politic. Este destul de greu să descriem amestecul de stiluri muzicale pe care-l integrăm în muzica noastră. Poţi auzi orice, de la rock la cazacioc, de la Rihanna la Nirvana, totul pe un fundal de ritmuri grele, balcanice, condimentate cu exhibiţii neruşinate din partea saxofonistului nostru. Se consumă cel mai bine cu nişte rachiu bun, de producţie locală, sau cu cantităţi corespunzătoare de bere.

În cel mai recent clip al vostru, Free MP3, va arătaţi suportul pentru Pirate Bay. Este o poziţionare destul de ciudată, pentru că mulţi artişti, ca şi voi, trăiesc din vânzarea muzicii pe internet. Pentru utilizatori este destul de tare că pot avea acces la muzică şi filme fără să dea niciun ban, dar pentru voi… Aşa că, de ce?

Nu e ciudat deloc. Din ce în ce mai mulţi artişti regândesc modelul tradiţional al industriei muzicale, în care trebuie, prin orice metodă, să vinzi cuiva o bucată de plastic cu nişte muzică pe ea, iar dacă eşuezi, e o adevărată catastrofă pentru tine. Există modele alternative care sunt mult mai oneste decât această metodă învechită. Dacă îţi place o trupă, vei găsi tot timpul o modalitate de a-ţi arăta suportul - mergi la un concert, cumperi ceva de la standul de merchandise, le trimiţi nişte bitcoin… Dacă nu-ţi place muzica lor, eşti binevenit s-o ştergi din calculator, fără să plăteşti nimic.

De asemenea, în acelaşi clip apar şi câteva celebrităţi, precum: Miley Cyrus şi Kim Kardashian. Vă place de Miley?

Orice clip de succes are nevoie de nişte celebrităţi. Pentru acest clip am vrut să avem tot ce e mai bun. De aceea n-am ezitat să cheltuim o grămadă de bani. Câteva milioane de dolari nu înseamnă nimic pe lângă satisfacţia de a le avea pe aceste celebrităţi în clipul nostru. Vă iubim Kim şi Miley!

Care e cea mai tare ţară în care aţi cântat?

Cea mai cool ţară în care am cântat a fost Norvegia, pentru că am cântat la Polul Nord şi acolo este al naibii de cool şi frig. Macedonia este o altă ţară cool. Am cântat în Skopje de Anul Nou şi au fost -13o C. Destul de cool.

Aşa cum am mai spus, aţi fost în România de mai multe ori. Ce vă place cel mai mult la România/români? Prima dată când am cântat în România a fost la festivalul IRAF din Timişoara, în 2010, şi de atunci ne întoarcem în fiecare an, pentru că ne plac românii, care sunt foarte pasionaţi de muzică şi e întotdeauna o plăcere să simţim acea energie când suntem pe scenă. Toată lumea spune că suntem „o trupă de party”, dar în realitate suntem „o trupă after-party”, iar after-party-urile din România sunt întotdeauna nebune şi garanţia unei mahmureli în dimineaţa următoare.

Cum poţi lupta prin muzică pentru o cauză?

urma unui incendiu dintr-un club (Colectiv), unde au murit 63 de oameni. Care ar fi mesajul vostru pentru românii care au ieșit în stradă?

E același mesaj pe care-l tot repetăm și celor de acasă. Nu le oferiți politicienilor nicio pauză. Dacă îi lasați nesupravegheați, dezvoltă o nevoie patologică de a vă fura banii și de a se îmbogăți. Nu le pasă de oamenii care i-au votat, care le-au dat puterea, și e trist că niște copii trebuie să moară pentru ca oamenii să-și dea seama că viețile lor sunt afectate zilnic de corupție, indiferent de nivelul la care aceasta se manifestă.

Nu avem acele iluzii romantice, că muzica poate schimba lumea şi că o trupă poate începe o revoluţie şi că poţi rezolva toate problemele din lume cu câteva cântece. Dar credem că muzica îi poate inspira pe oameni şi îi poate face să se gândească la anumite lucruri care, altfel, ar fi ignorate. Credem că rolul artiştilor este de a încerca să influenţeze societatea să accepte nişte schimbări pozitive.

În versurile voastre abordați de multe ori problemele din societatea bosniacă, cauzate, în mare parte, de corupție. România are și ea probleme mari din cauza corupției. Nu de mult au existat proteste de amploare în ţara noastră îndreptate împotriva corupției, în

Și, nu în ultimul rând, în ianuarie ați cântat la Eurosonic, cel mai mare festival de prezentare a muzicii europene. Ați pregătit ceva special? Ați abordat problema refugiaților sau a atacurilor teroriste?

Concertul nostru de la Eurosonic a durat doar 45 de minute. Ne-am folosit de acest timp pentru a cânta cât mai multe piese. Doar câteva cuvinte au fost rostite pe lângă. Acestea au fost: „Toată lumea e binevenită la concertul Dubioza. Nu contează dacă ești musulman sau creștin, negru sau alb, gay sau heterosexual. Toată lumea e binevenită, în afară de fasciști, naționaliști, teroriști, pedofili și, în general, ticăloși.”

How can music help to fight for a cause?

We don’t have romantic illusions that music can change the world and that one band can start a revolution and solve all problems in the world with a few songs. But we believe that music can inspire people and make them think about issues that would otherwise be ignored. We think that the role of artists is to try to influence society to embrace positive changes.

You’ve been in Romania many times, but, how would you describe Dubioza Kolektiv to those who don’t know you and never heard your music?

We are an 8 people strong collective hailing from Balkan region with members from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia. We play very loud music and make terribly bad and politically incorrect jokes between songs. It is too hard to describe the mix of musical genres that are blended together in our sound. You can hear everything from rock to kazachok and from Rihanna to Nirvana, topped with some hard Balkan groves, seasoned with brass exhibitions by our saxophone player. It is best consumed with some good domestic Rakija or appropriate quantities of beer.

In your last video you show your support for The Pirate Bay. That’s something pretty strange, because artists like yourselves are making a living by also selling music on the internet. For the users it’s pretty cool that they can have movies and music for free, but for you... So, why? It is not that strange. More and more artists are rethinking the traditional music industry model in which you must, by any means possible, sell a piece of plastic with some music attached to it to somebody and if you fail - that is catastrophe. There are alternative models that are much more reflective then this old, outdated one. If you like a band, you can always find some way to show your support - go to a concert, buy some merchandise, send some bitcoin money… If you don’t like it - you are welcome to delete it from your hard drive without having to pay anything.

Also, in your video there are some big celebrities, like: Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian. Don’t you like Miley?

Every good video needs a bunch of celebrities. For this video we wanted the best of the best. That’s why we didn’t hesitate to spend a lot of money. A few millions of dollars is nothing compared to the pleasure of having these kinds of stars in our video. We love you Kim and Miley!

What’s the coolest country you’ve ever played in and why?

Coolest country that we played is Norway, because we played in the Arctic circle which is fucking cool & cold. Macedonia is also a cool country. We played in Skopje for New Year’s Eve and it was -13o C. Pretty cool.

In your lyrics, you often address the problems of Bosnian society, caused mainly by corruption. Romania also has a very big problem with corruption. Recently there were big protests in our country regarding this, following the explosion in a night club (Colectiv) that killed 60 people. What would be your message for the Romanian people? It is the same message that we keep repeating to people back home. Don’t give politicians a break. If left unattended they get the pathological need to steal your money and get filthy rich. They don’t really care about people who voted for them and it is sad that kids have to die before people realize that corruption affects us all in our everyday lives, on every possible level.

As I’ve said, you’ve been in Romania many times. What do you like the most about Romania/Romanians?

The first time we played in Romania was at IRAF festival Timisoara, in 2010, and, since then, we come back every year because we like Romanian people who are very passionate about music and it is always a pleasure to feel that energy while performing on stage. Everybody says that we are a ‘party band’, but in reality, we are more of an ‘after-party

Last, but not least, in January you played at the biggest European showcase festival, Eurosonic. Did you prepare something special? Have you tackled the refugee problem or the terrorist attacks?

We just came back from Eurosonic. It was only 45 minutes set. We used this time to play as much songs as we could fit. Only few words were spoken, and those were: ‘Everybody is welcome to Dubioza show. It doesn’t matter if you are Muslim or Christian, black or white, gay or straight. Everybody is welcome except fascists, nationalists, terrorists, pedofiles and assholes in general.’

De exemplu, paietele purtate în timpul zilei reprezentau o greșeală de stil pe vremuri, însă acum fac parte din trend; pantofii sport purtați cu rochii sau costum erau de neconceput, iar exemplele pot continua la nesfârșit. Însă există câteva reguli referitoare la modă care au rămas neclintite odată cu trecerea timpului și asupra cărora toată lumea este de acord. Una dintre cele mai cunoscute este: Fiecare femeie trebuie să aibă în garderobă o rochie neagră, simplă. Dar cum a ajuns rochia neagră un obiect indispensabil din garderoba unei femei? Până la Coco Chanel, rochia neagră se purta doar în perioada de doliu. Însă în 1926, ediția americană a revistei Vogue a publicat o schiță semnată Coco Chanel a unei rochii negre, simple, prezicând faptul că aceasta va deveni în viitor „uniforma” femeilor de pretutindeni. Chiar dacă Chanel este cea care a adus-o în atenția publicului, Audrey Hepburn este cea care a făcut rochia neagră faimoasă, cu creația Givenchy purtată în filmul cult Breakfast at Tiffany’s. De atunci și până în prezent, rochia neagră a devenit o alegere pentru majoritatea femeilor celebre din istorie, dar și inspirație pentru cei mai mari designeri ai lumii, nume mari precum Christian Dior sau Balenciaga reinterpretând rochia în funcție de vremuri.

For instance, sequins worn during daytime were considered a faux pas in the past, however, nowadays are quite trendy; sports shoes with dresses or suits were inconceivable and there are countless other examples. There are some fashion rules, however, that stand the test of time and are accepted by everybody. One of the most famous rules is: Each woman should have a simple, black dress in her wardrobe. How did the black dress manage to become a must-have? The black dress used to be worn only during the periods of mourning – that is until Coco Chanel. In 1926, the US Vogue edition published a Coco Chanel sketch of a simple, black dress, predicting that it would become the ‘uniform’ of women everywhere. Even though Chanel is the one that brought it into the limelight, Audrey Hepburn is the one that made it famous, with the Givenchy creation worn in the Breakfast at Tiffany’s cult film. We discussed with Trond Furenes, the Managing Director of F5IT – a Norwegian software development and network and security services company that has established a Romanian branch in 2013 about his experience opening and running an IT business in Romania. F5IT has now around 30 employees in our country (4 in Bucharest and 23 in Constanta, where their Romanian HQ office is).

I have been amazed by how easy it has been to work together with our colleagues in Romania. It didn’t take long time until I noticed that the difference between Norwegians and Romanians were a lot smaller than I thought. CUM ȘI DE CE AȚI HOTĂRÂT SĂ ÎNTEMEIAȚI O COMPANIE ÎN ROMÂNIA?

În 2011, când am înființat compania în Norvegia, lucrurile evoluau destul de rapid și, la momentul respectiv, era foarte dificil să găsești în Norvegia mână de lucru calificată corespunzător. Fiind o companie la început de drum, a trebuit să concurăm cu companiile mari pentru forța de muncă, și, drept urmare, chiar și în Norvegia, a fost necesar să aducem persoane noi, de naționalități diferite, din Portugalia, Italia, România, Bulgaria etc. Astfel că am început să ne uităm și în jur pentru a ne extinde. Avusesem anterior experiența de a lucra cu echipe dezvoltatoare de software din India, China, Vietnam, care însă nu a generat rezultate bune, din cauza barierelor de limbă, cultură și fus orar. Astfel că principalul criteriu pe care ni l-am dorit pentru o nouă filială era ca aceasta să se afle în UE. Am luat în calcul câteva alte țări, însă, la momentul respectiv, aveam în Norvegia o angajată din România, iar aceasta s-a dovedit a fi foarte valoroasă pentru noi și, de asemenea, și-a promovat foarte bine și țara. Ne-a dus în România, ne-a arătat cum stau lucrurile, am efectuat câteva studii preliminare înainte de aceasta și, văzând inițiativele bune pe care le avea guvernul în domeniul IT software și, de asemenea, după ce am întâlnit și oamenii de la Constanța (dezvoltatoarea noastră era de acolo), într-o săptămână am fost convinși, ne-am hotărât să venim aici. Mediul legislativ a fost foarte atrăgător pentru noi, ca societate IT (de ex. scutirile de impozit).

HOW AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START A COMPANY IN ROMANIA?

In 2011 when we started our company in Norway things where catching up quite fast and at that time it was very difficult to find the right skilled workforce in Norway. As a start-up company we had to compete with big companies for workforce so even in Norway we had to bring new people in, of different nationalities Portugal, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria etc. So we also started looking around to expand. We had previously experienced working with software development teams in India, China, Vietnam and that didn’t work out due to language, culture and time barriers. So the main criteria when we wanted to start a new branch it had to be in the EU. We considered several other countries but we had a Romanian employee in Norway at the time and she proved to be a very valuable asset for us and also promoted her country very well. She took us to Romania, showed us around, we did some pre-studies before that and seeing the good initiatives the government had in the IT software and after meeting the people in Constanta (our developer was from there), in a week we were hooked, we decided to come here. The legislative environment was very attractive for us, as an IT company (eg. tax exemptions). IT is the future for Romania and for the world actually, fostering the development and growth of the Romanian IT industry is I think very important for the country.

PE MĂSURĂ CE ECHIPA DE AICI SE DEZVOLTA, ECHIPA DUMNEAVOASTRĂ DIN NORVEGIA SE MICȘORA? ESTE VORBA DE SITUAȚIA DEVENITĂ OARECUM CLASICĂ, ÎN CARE VĂ ÎNLOCUIȚI ECHIPA DE ACOLO CU O ECHIPĂ MAI MARE ÎN ROMÂNIA?

Nu, a crescut și acolo, am crescut de la 1 angajat în 2011 în Norvegia, până la 30 acolo și aproape 30 aici. Nu este vorba de o înlocuire, nu este nici o mutare, ci este o extindere. F5IT România a trebuit să aibă propriii săi clienți, pentru a nu depinde de proiectele și de clienții pe care îi avea societatea din Norvegia. Filiala din România nu a fost gândită ca un birou de suport pentru cel din Norvegia. Referitor la clienții noștri, lucrăm cu multe companii pe plan global, care au filiale aici, societăți de pe plan global cu birouri peste tot în lume și, desigur, multe societăți scandinave etc.

EXISTĂ DIFERENȚE CULTURALE ÎNTRE ANGAJAȚII DIN ROMÂNIA ȘI CEI DIN NORVEGIA, CARE NU SUNT FOARTE UȘOR DE GESTIONAT?

Ei bine, pot spune cu certitudine că diferența dintre angajații din România și cei din Norvegia este mult mai mică decât diferența dintre norvegieni și angajații noștri din Europa de Sud sau din Orientul Mijlociu. Pauzele de cafea sunt mult mai lungi acolo... Lăsând gluma la o parte, aspectul cultural nu a reprezentat cu adevărat o problemă și cred că pentru o companie, o echipă multiculturală reprezintă un plus de valoare.

CUM VĂ CONDUCEȚI ECHIPA DIN ROMÂNIA DE LA DISTANȚĂ (AVÂND ÎN VEDERE FAPTUL CĂ EXECUTIVUL SE AFLĂ ÎN NORVEGIA?)

O persoană din echipa de conducere vine aici o dată la două luni. În plus, și angajații din România se deplasează în Norvegia ori de câte ori este necesar acest lucru. Nu este greu să administrezi de la distanță, încă nu ne-am confruntat cu situații dificile dar, desigur, este mult mai ușor să gestionezi o situație atunci când totul decurge bine. La început, este foarte important să îi cunoști personal și să stabilești relațiile necesare cu oamenii și, în mod ideal, să înveți și limba.

să se dezvolte și ele. Deja se resimte o lipsă de profesioniști IT în București și cu atât mai mult în afara Bucureștiului, iar acest domeniu depinde, desigur, de competențele umane. Spre exemplu, în ce privește firma noastră din Constanța, depindem de numărul de absolvenți ai Facultății de Informatică din cadrul Universității din Constanța.

UN SFAT PENTRU CETĂȚENII STRĂINI CARE ÎȘI DORESC SĂ ÎNCEAPĂ O AFACERE ÎN ROMÂNIA.

Când începeți, asigurați-vă că aveți parte de consiliere bună pe plan local. Poate că sunt investitori care au cheltuit sume mari pentru a porni afacerea, lucru care nu este necesar, dar noi am avut o experiență foarte bună încă de la început. Însă trebuie să vă asigurați că alegeți persoanele potrivite pentru a începe (societățile juridice și contabile cu care începeți și, desigur, primii angajați). De asemenea, trebuie să aveți răbdare și să vă pregătiți să ștampilați și să semnați o mulțime de documente.

WHILE THE TEAM HERE WAS DEVELOPING WAS YOUR NORWAY TEAM SHRINKING? IS THIS A SOMEHOW CLASSICAL CASE NOWADAYS OF REPLACING YOUR TEAM THERE WITH A LARGER ROMANIAN TEAM? No, it has grown there as well, we grew from 1 employee in 2011 in Norway to 30 there and almost 30 here. It is not replacing, it is not about moving, it is about expanding. F5IT Romania had to have its own clients, not to be dependent on the projects and clients the Norwegian company had. The Romanian branch was not intended to be a backup office for the Norwegian one. In terms of our clients, we work with many global companies with branches here, global companies with offices anywhere in the world and of course many Scandinavian companies etc.

ARE THERE ANY CULTURAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ROMANIAN AND NORWEGIAN EMPLOYEES THAT ARE NOT SO EASY TO DEAL WITH?

Well I can surely say that the difference between our Romanian employees and our Norwegian employees is much smaller than the difference between the Norwegians and our Southern Europe or Middle Eastern employees. Much longer coffees there... Joke aside, the cultural aspect has not really been a problem and I think it is enriching for a company to have a multicultural team.

HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR ROMANIAN TEAM FROM AFAR (HAVING THE EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT IN NORWAY)?

Someone from the management team is here every second month. Romanian employees also travel to Norway whenever it is necessary. It is not hard to manage from afar, we have not met the hard parts yet, but of course, it is always easier to manage something when things go well. In the beginning it is very important to physically meet and do the people bonding necessary and ideally also learn the language.

WHAT OTHER DEVELOPMENTS ARE STILL NEEDED FOR ROMANIA TO BECOME AN EVEN MORE ATTRACTIVE MARKET FOR FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN THE IT INDUSTRY?

What is very important, taking into account the fast growth of the IT industry in this country, is that the human resources grow as well. There is already a shortage of IT professionals in Bucharest and even more so outside Bucharest and the industry is of course dependent on human skills. For example for our company in Constanta, we are dependent of the number of graduating students from the IT Faculty of Constanta’s university.

AN ADVICE FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS WANTING TO START-UP A BUSINESS IN ROMANIA.

When you start, make sure you have good local advisors. Maybe some other investors have paid a lot of money to get started, which is not necessary but we had a very good experience from the start. But you need to make sure you pick the right people to start (the legal and accounting companies you start with and of course, your first employees). Also, be patient and be prepared to stamp and sign a lot of documents.

I became CEO of Turin Airport on July 2013, as expression of the private shareholder of majority, 2iAeroporti. My long career started in the aviation sector, in Aeritalia-Finmeccanica, where I was in charge of business agreements with Boeing and McDonnell Douglas.
