Following its significant expansion at the beginning of June, the airline has just announced two new bases, Cluj-Napoca and Constanta, which will become operational on 30 October 2016 and 27 April 2017 respectively. Cluj-Napoca, perhaps better known as the unofficial capital and heart of Transylvania, will be connected to both Iasi and Timisoara via a triangular route launched on 1 October – a unique domestic link that will be a definite success. Additionally, Blue

Air will introduce another service from Cluj-Napoca to Birmingham on 16 December this year. With the start of the 2017 summer season, four new destinations will be added to Blue Air’s Cluj-Napoca network, namely Hamburg, London Luton, Larnaca and Nice, which highlights the airline’s commitment to the region. As a result of deploying a Boeing 737 aircraft at the main international gateway to the Romanian Riviera – Constanta Airport, the carrier will operate three international airport pairs to Rome Fiumicino, Milan/ Bergamo, Paris Beauvais. The airline is committed to investing significantly in Constanta region in the following years, by stimulating both the market and the Romanian tourism. Interestingly, Blue Air will further enhance its position within the Romanian domestic market by

T O R I N O TURIN: a perfect gateway to the Milky Way alea Lactee este o zonă vastă de schi care acoperă 400 km (140 pârtii) din regiunea Piemont, la graniţa cu Franţa şi Italia. Este alcătuită din şase staţiuni: Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere şi toate se află la maxim două ore de aeroportul din Torino.

Claviere este cea mai veche staţiune de schi a Italiei. Acest oraş liniştit şi încântător este perfect pentru familii şi oferă mâncare bună şi băuturi la un preţ rezonabil. Cele 35 de pârtii locale sunt potrivite mai mult pentru schiorii începători şi pentru cei de nivel intermediar; pârtiile ating o altitudine de 2303 m.

Claviere is Italy's oldest ski resort. The quiet and charming little town is very family-friendly and offers good food and drinks at a reasonable price. Claviere's 35 local runs are best suited to beginners and intermediates and reach a height of 2303m altitude.

Sauze d'Oulx este una dintre cele mai mari staţiuni din Calea Lactee şi este vestită pentru activităţile sale „apres-ski” pline de viaţă. Zona locală de schi din Sauze este cea mai potrivită pentru schiori de nivel intermediar şi este deosebit de îndrăgită de cei care practică snow-boardul.

Sauze d'Oulx is one of the bigger Milky Way resorts and is known for its lively après ski scene. Sauze's local ski area is best suited to intermediates and is especially popular with snowboarders.

Sestriere a găzduit Campionatul Mondial Alpin din 1997 şi Jocurile Olimpice de la Torino din 2006. Această staţiune aflată la mare altitudine (2035 m) este îndrăgită de schiorii avansaţi pentru pârtiile sale abrupte şi zonele palpitante din afara pârtiilor. Montgenevre este singura staţiune franceză din Calea Lactee şi este potrivită pentru începători şi schiorii de nivel intermediar. Este cunoscută ca o staţiune foarte însorită, cu multă zăpadă.

he Milky Way is the extensive ski area covering 400km (140 slopes) in the Piedmont region, which borders both France and Italy. It is made up of six resorts: Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere all of which are within two hours of Torino Airport.

Sestriere hosted the 1997 Alpine World Championships and the 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games. This high-altitude resort (2035m) is popular with advanced skiers for its steep runs and thrilling off-piste. Montgenevre is the only French resort in the Milky Way and is particularly well suited to beginners and intermediates. It is known as a very family-friendly resort.

Sansicario este o staţiune modernă care oferă 40 km de pârtii pentru toate nivelurile şi este foarte îndrăgită de familii pentru pârtiile sale şi parcul său de distracţii. O zonă mai mare de cumpărături şi multe restaurante, baruri şi cluburi pot fi găsite în centrul oraşului.

Sansicario is a modern and big resort offering 40km of runs for all levels and is very popular with families for its beginner slopes and Fun Park. A larger shopping area and also a good number of restaurants, bars and clubs can be found in the city centre.

Staţiunea Cesana se află în centrul Căii Lactee, dar la o altitudine mai mică (1350 m). Schiorii şi cei care practică snow-boardul pot ajunge în Sansicario cu un teleferic cu opt scaune, în doar opt minute.

Cea mai uşoară cale către Alpii Francezi este aeroportul

Lyon Airport is the easiest connection to the French Alps lpe d’Huez (la 150 km de Lyon), cunoscut ca fiind una dintre cele mai îndrăgite zone de schi din lume şi una dintre cele mai mari din Alpii Francezi, are una dintre cele mai mari căderi verticale cu teleferic de pe planetă. Această staţiune oferă alternative de schi pentru toate tipurile de schiori, inclusiv cea mai lungă pârtie pentru experţi din lume.

Les Deux Alpes (la 160 km de Lyon) este o staţiune preferată de familii, care găzduieşte una din cele trei zone de schi franceze cu gheţari estivali. Se spune că este cea mai mare staţiune din Europa. Are una dintre cele mai mari căderi verticale cu teleferic din lume şi poate găzdui 35.000 oaspeţi pe noapte.

Les Deux Alpes (160km from Lyon) is a very family friendly resort, home of one of the three French summer glacier skiing areas, said to be the Europe’s largest. It has one of the world’s biggest lift-served vertical drops and it can host 35,000 guests per night.

Val Thorens (la 183 km de Lyon) nu este doar o staţiune de schi faimoasă, ci şi cea aflată la cea mai mare înălţime (2300 m) din Europa. Are o atmosferă cosmopolită, lumea aici e pusă pe distracţie şi este potrivită pentru toate tipurile de vizitatori.

Val Thorens (183km from Lyon) is not only a famous ski resort but also the highest village (2300 m) in Europe. It has a fun, cosmopolitan atmosphere and is suited for all types of travelers.

Val d’Isère (la 220 km de Lyon) este considerată adesea ca fiind una dintre cele mai bune staţiuni de schi din lume, cu pârtii legendare şi zăpadă pe tot parcursul anului. Staţiunea dispune de activităţi de „apres-ski” care sunt potrivite pentru toate genurile de grupuri, şi de o gamă variată de unităţi de cazare. Valloire (la 190 km de Lyon) oferă unele dintre cele mai vaste pârtii din Alpi. Les Aillons (la 150 km de Lyon) se află în plin Parc Natural Massif des Bauges şi este una dintre cele mai mari staţiuni din zonă. SuperDévoluy (la 184 km de Lyon) este mic, liniştit, perfect pentru familii şi are acces direct la zăpadă de la orice unitate de cazare. Are o creşă, grădini de zăpadă şi activităţi distractive pentru toate vârstele. Zona de schi oferă 100 km de pârtii, de la cele pentru începători până la cele pentru schiorii experimentaţi.

rice sport practicat de mic reușește să devină parte integrantă din viața unui om; iar beneficiile unei vieți sportive nici că mai trebuie menționate. De aceea, vacanțele tale la ski și snowboarding nu trebuie să îi excludă pe cei mici. Cu această regulă de aur în minte am pregătit și noi câteva sfaturi care să-ți facă vacanța la ski cu întreaga familie mult mai ușoară și mai plăcută.

ORGANIZAREA E MANĂ CEREASCĂ

Pregătește totul în avans: biletele de avion, transferul la cazare, mașina închiriată (dacă stai departe de pârtie) sau informații despre transportul public de la hotel la pârtie. Asigurarea medicală e importantă, verifică să acopere şi posibilele accidentări la ski.

O SANIE E MAI UTILĂ DECÂT AI CREDE

Când adaugi și echipamentele copiilor, bagajul ce trebuie luat pe pârtie devine și mai voluminos și mai greu. Astfel, o sanie de plastic te va ajuta mult la transport. Plus că îi poți căra și pe cei mici de la mașină până la telescaun ca să nu obosească înainte să înceapă distracția. Caută din timp un loc de unde să închiriezi o astfel de sanie încă din prima zi.

ny sport practiced from an early age will become a part of any person’s life and the benefits of an active life are obvious. Your ski holidays should not exclude your little ones. With this golden rule in mind, we prepared some tips that would make your family holiday easier and more pleasant.

PREPARATION IS KEY

Prepare everything in advance: plane tickets, accommodation transfer, the rental car (if you are far from the slopes) or information about the public transportation from the hotel to the slopes. Health insurance is very important; make sure it covers any potential ski accidents.

A SLEDGE IS MORE USEFUL THAN YOU MIGHT THINK

When you add the kids’ equipment, the luggage to be taken to the slopes becomes bigger and heavier. Thus, a plastic sledge will help you. Moreover, you can carry the kids from the car to the ski-lifts so they don’t get tired before the fun starts. Search in advance for a place where you can rent a sledge from the first day.

LUGGAGE ON SLOPE

Perhaps you are used to carrying only your wallet and phone when skiing. But now the luggage should include: sunscreen, sun block lip balm, an extra pair of socks, extra thermal blouse, snacks and a bottle of water. Have everything at hand for small ‘emergencies’, so that your ski day will not end abruptly or become a nightmare.

SKI CLOTHES ARE MORE THAN FASHION

Equipment is the foundation for all successful ski trips. Thermal socks that let the feet breathe and keep you warm and thermal blouses with the same properties are a must-have. Rainproof and windproof trousers and jackets are just as important. Usually these are quite expensive and generally kids cannot wear them more than a season or two, therefore check if you can find them in second hand shops, or rent them at the destination (most ski resorts have this option) or even borrow them from other parents. Do not forget about a helmet and sunglasses, being protected is the most important thing.

Poate ești obișnuit să nu ai nevoie de nimic în afară de portofel şi telefon atunci când mergi la ski. Dar acum, bagajul tău ar trebui să conțină: cremă cu protecție solară, strugurel, soșete de schimb, bluză termală de schimb, mici gustări și o sticlă cu apă. Gândește-te că vrei să ai totul la îndemână pentru mici „urgențe” astfel încât ziua de ski să nu se termine repede sau să devină un calvar.

Echipamentul e fundația de la care pleacă orice excursie de ski reușită. Șosete speciale, termale, care să lase piciorul să respire, să țină de cald și bluzele termale cu aceleași proprietăți sunt indispensabile. Pantaloni și geci impermeabile, rezistente la vânt, potrivite pentru ski, sunt la fel de importante. De obicei, acestea sunt foarte scumpe, iar în general copiii nu le pot purta mai mult de un sezon sau maxim două, așa că verifică înainte dacă le găsești second hand, dacă le poţi închiria de la destinație (în majoritatea staţiunilor montante din străinatate este posibil) sau de ce nu, dacă poți să le împrumuți de la alți părinți. Nu uita de cască și ochelari! Protecția este esențială.

ANTI-OBOSEALĂ

Până nu începe coborârea propriuzisă, nu îi suprasolicita pe cei mici cu clăparii sau bootsii de snowboarding. Copiii se vor deplasa mai ușor în niște

„Găsește un instructor care să fie pasionat, unul cu care cei mici să rezoneze. Dacă bea un vin fiert și fumează o țigară în timp ce vorbește cu tine despre lecții de ski, cred că poți să mai cauți. Un instructor bun respectă muntele și-l iubește. Lecțiile în grup alături de alți copii sunt mai eficiente, cei mici se ambiționează mai ușor, obosesc mai greu și se distrează mai tare. De exemplu, anti plictiseală și pro concentrare este și mecanismul jocuri și încurajări. În joacă ne alegem schiurile cu prințese sau mașinuțe, în joacă desenăm o felie de pizza pe zăpadă, care mai târziu va deveni plugul, în joacă facem prima coborâre pe o pantă ușoară, ca după, tot în joacă, să urcăm cu liftul. Au fost cazuri în care în prima oră de ski am făcut oameni de zăpadă și abia după ne-am pus schiurile în picioare. Dacă au încredere în tine ca prieten pe zăpadă, totul la ski va fi mai ușor apoi”.

ANTI-TIRING

Until you actually start descending, do not overburden the kids with ski boots. Children will walk easier in normal winter boots and will be more comfortable in their own shoes. At the same time, if you know that you will be running around after the little ones, keep your own boots on and put the ski-boots only when necessary. Take several short breaks, drink hot chocolate, take photos to remind you of this holiday, it is important to have fun and collect great memories!

‘Find an instructor that is passionate, one that the kids like. If he drinks mulled wine and smokes a cigarette while talking about ski lessons, I think you should keep looking. A good instructor respects and loves the mountain. Group lessons together with other kids are more efficient, because children get competitive, don’t get tired that easily and have more fun. All the games and cheering keep them focused and entertained. Just for fun we choose the skis with princesses or cars, we draw a slice of pizza in the snow which later on will become the snow plough position, we will make the first descent on a slope and we then go up on the lift. There were cases when in our first ski lessons we have built snowmen and only afterwards we have donned our skis. If they trust you as a friend, everything will be much easier afterwards’.

INDUSTRIIȘIEVENIMENTE în România by FESTIVALIER

acă vorbim despre publicitate, arhitectură, artă şi antichităţi, meşteşuguri, design, modă, video, jocuri video, film şi foto, muzică, arte performative, activitate editorială, software, TV și radio sau cărți electronice, de fapt vorbim despre industrii creative. Nu vom duce lipsă în perioada următoare de festivaluri, târguri, conferințe și work-shop-uri destinate acestor industrii, lucru ce denotă un interes crescut în România pentru oportunităţile pe care ele le oferă. Și ca să plasăm discuția și într-un context economic actual, sectorul industriilor creative reprezintă 6.8% din PIB-ul Uniunii Europene și angajează 6,5% din forța de muncă, adică aproximativ 14 milioane de oameni. În România, aceleași statistici pentru sector indicau următoarele valori: 5,93% și, respectiv, 4,48%. Cu alte cuvinte, nu suntem foarte departe de cifrele europene per total. În același timp, în mod clar putem vorbi și despre un trend pozitiv al subiectului, ținând cont de creșterea de 82.4% a valorii adăugate realizate de industriile creative din 2009 până în 2013. hen we speak of advertising, architecture, art, antiques, crafts, design, fashion, video, video games, film and photography, music, performing arts, writing, software, TV and radio or e-books, we, in fact, speak of creative industries. In the coming period we will not be lacking in festivals, fairs, conferences and workshops dedicated to these industries, which indicate heightened interest in Romania and the opportunities Romania can provide. To also place this discussion within a current economic context, the creative industries’ sector represents 6.8% of the European Union GDP and employs 6.5% of the workforce, namely approximately 14 million people. In Romania, the same statistics for the sector indicated the following values: 5.93% and, respectively, 4.48%. In other words, we are not very far from the figures of Europe as a whole. At the same time, there is also another positive trend to take into account, the 82.4% increase of the added value achieved by the creative industries from 2009 until 2013. (the data is taken from Cojanu, V. et. al (2015) - Cultural and Creative Sectors in Romania: Economic Importance and Competitive Background, Pro Universitaria Publishing House Bucharest) We will further present to you a selection of the most important festivals and events which will be taking place from October through till November. CREATIVE EST FESTIVAL

Creative Est, organizat de Asociația ORICUM, este primul festival românesc dedicat industriilor creative, un eveniment care își propune să fie un punct de întâlnire între antreprenori creativi, autorități locale și public larg, cu scopul de a crește cunoașterea și interesul general asupra industriilor creative. Gândit ca o platformă de educare pentru oamenii creativi, pe de o parte, dar și ca spațiu de descoperire pentru publicul larg, pe de altă parte, săptămâna Creative Est, la prima ediție în 2015, a găzduit seminarii pentru studenți, work-shop-uri pentru actualii și viitorii antreprenori în industrii creative, o conferință care a adus la aceeași masă reprezentanți ai instituțiilor publice, investitori și un pitching session pentru idei noi de afaceri. Nu în ultimul rând, festivalul a adus la viață market-ul industriilor creative, loc de întâlnire pentru creatorii de produse inovatoare „made in România”. 1.200 de metri pătrați dintr-o fostă hală de confecții textile, Industria Bumbacului, a fost transformată în cel mai mare târg dedicat industriilor creative românești, arătând că zonele industriale pot recâștiga un rol în infrastructura orașului. Creative Est 2 va avea loc între 10 și 16 octombrie în același loc, fosta fabrică Industria Bumbacului din București, și are ca temă impactul industriilor creative în viața orașului.

Creative Est, organised by ORICUM Association, is the first Romanian festival dedicated to creative industries, an event which sets itself the goal of being a meeting place for creative entrepreneurs, local authorities and the wider audience, with the purpose of improving the general knowledge and interest around the creative industries. Designed as an education platform for creative people, on the one hand, as well as an area of discovery for the wider audience, on the other hand, Creative Est week, at its first edition, in 2015, hosted student seminars, workshops for current and future creative industry entrepreneurs, a conference which brought representatives of public institutions, investors and a pitching session for new business ideas. Last but not least, the festival brought the creative industries market to life, a meeting place for the creators of innovative ‘made in Romania’ products. 1,200 square meters within a former garment manufacturing hall, Industria Bumbacului (The Cotton Industry) was transformed into the largest fair dedicated to Romanian creative industries, proving that the industrial areas can still play a role in the city’s infrastructure. Creative Est 2 will take place between 10-16 October, at the same location, the former Industria Bumbacului factory in Bucharest and this year’s theme will be the impact of creative industries on city life.

Diploma, evenimentul dedicat absolvenților de facultăți creativ-vocaționale, va avea loc între 14 și 23 octombrie. Programul este compus din expoziția cu cele mai bune lucrări de licență din anul 2016, din peste 20 de discipline creative (arhitectura, design industrial, muzica, arta, design vestimentar, teatru si film), proiecții de film și spectacole de teatru. Anul acesta organizatorii, The Institute, pun sub lumina reflectoarelor departamentele de design vestimentar și modă. Celor opt universități partenere din București li s-au alăturat încă patru universități din țară: Universitatea de Artă şi Design din Cluj-Napoca, Universitatea de Arte George Enescu din Iași - Facultatea de Arte Vizuale şi Design, Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara Facultatea de Arte şi Design și Universitatea din Oradea - Facultatea de Arte.

Diploma, the event dedicated to creative-vocational faculty graduates, takes place between the 14th and 23rd October. The programme is made up of an exhibition containing the best theses from the year 2016, from more than 20 creative subjects (architecture, industrial design, music, arts, clothing design, theatre and film), film screenings and theatre shows. This year, the organisers, The Institute, are placing clothing design and fashion departments in the spotlight. ALT Festival este primul festival de tehnologie organizat în Romania, din 2014, de către Clusterul pentru Inovare și Tehnologie, la Brașov. Scopul evenimentului este de a plasa tehnologia ca parte esențială a stilului de viață contemporan, de a marca și testa cele mai noi inovații tehnologice. ALT Festival is the first technology festival organised in Romania and was first created in 2014 by the Innovation and Technology Cluster, in Brasov. -am întrebat pe unul dintre prietenii mei #mândricătrăiescînTimisoara ce as putea scrie într-un articol despre orașul nostru natal, iar răspunsul lui a fost simplu: „scrie un articol de un cuvânt: EXTRAORDINAR”. Era tentant, dar m-am gandit că v-aţi putea bucura de mai multe informaţii în legătură cu acest oraş minunat în care am crescut. Aşadar, sper că veţi citi cu plăcere acest articol de 1700 de cuvinte în schimb… despre Timişoara. Deși oraș important pentru istoria românilor (fiind și primul oraș eliberat de comunism), Timișoara umple pagini și în istoria multor altor popoare: a fost în trecut capitala Regatului Ungar, pașalâc turcesc, dar și cetate în Imperiul Habsburgic. Începeți cu Piața Victoriei, unde puteți admira Catedrala Mitropolitană, Opera Română și Teatrul Național. La balconul Operei, Timișoara a fost declarat primul oraș liber al României în 1989. Urmele gloanțelor de pe aproape fiecare clădire din piaţă stau mărturie că libertatea noastră ne-a costat scump. Asociația Memorialul Revoluției de pe Strada Popa Şapcă nr. 3-5 (cu intrare pe strada Oituz) este locul din care puteți să aflați mai multe despre Revoluția din ’89 și cum a fost ea trăită la Timișoara. Acolo veți afla și care sunt monumentele ce amintesc de acest important eveniment din istoria noastră națională. Lângă Piața Victoriei se află Castelul Huniade, cea mai veche clădire din Timișoara, construit de către Ioan de Hunedoara pe ruinele vechiului castel al Regelui Ungariei - Carol Robert De Anjou - ce și-a avut aici reședința pentru un timp. Lăsând în spate Opera, veţi ajunge în Piața Libertății, cea mai veche dintre pieţele Timişoarei, aceasta fiind nucleul iniţial de unde a pornit evoluţia oraşului. Sub zona centrală – construită de austrieci la începutul secolului al XVIII-lea – se află vechiul oraș medieval turcesc, Timișoara fiind și pașalâc turcesc pentru 200 de ani. În urma lucrărilor de restaurare a centrului istoric, urmele fostelor băi turcești au fost marcate în pavajul pieţei. Luând-o la dreapta, din Libertăţii se ajunge în doar 2 minute în Piața Sf. Gheorghe, o mică piațetă fermecătoare în care puteţi admira rămăşiţele zidurilor Bisericii Iezuite (demolată în 1913). De aici până în Piața Unirii nu mai aveți decât 5 minute de plimbare printre clădiri ce își păstrează farmecul, dar nu întotdeauna și fațadele. Încă

Bullet marks on nearly every building in this square are proof of the fact that our freedom came at a great cost. The Revolution Memorial Association on 3-5 Popa Sapca street (accessed from Oituz street) is the place to find out more about the 1989 Revolution and the way it was experienced in Timisoara. There you will also learn where to find the monuments which remind us of this important event of our national history. In close vicinity to Victory Square lies the Huniade Castle, the oldest building in Timisoara, erected by John Hunyadi on the ruins of the former castle of the Hungarian king Charles Robert of Anjou, who had his residence here for a period of time. However, before you arrive there, leaving behind the Opera House you will enter Liberty Square, the oldest plaza in town and the core of Timisoara’s evolution. Beneath the central area – built by the Austrians at the beginning of the 18th century – lies the old Turkish medieval city, as Timisoara was also a Turkish pashalic for 200 years. Following the restoration of the historic center, the Turkish baths were marked in the square’s pavement. Moving on from Liberty Square, make a right and within just 2 minutes you will reach St. George Square, a small but charming plaza where you can admire the remains of the Jesuit Church walls (demolished in 1913). From here to Union Square you will only need to make a five-minute stroll through buildings which have preserved their charm, but not always their facades. The municipality is working at restoring them though, and Timisoara is gradually reviving. We encourage you to use your imagination in order to color

Piața Unirii, locul preferat de localnici atunci când vor să se întâlnească cu prietenii sau partenerii de afaceri, adăpostește nu doar nenumărate cafenele, ci și Palatul Baroc, astăzi Muzeul De Artă. Piața este delimitată pe o parte de impozantul Dom Romano-Catolic și pe cealaltă parte de Biserica Ortodoxă de rit vechi, Biserica Sârbească (Timișoara găzduind o comunitate însemnată de sârbi, alături de unguri şi germani). Ultima parte a traseului central este vizitarea Bastionului Maria Theresia, fiind singurul rămas din uriașa fortificație construită de austrieci în secolul XVIII şi care avea 3 centuri stelare care puteau fi umplute cu apă, 9 bastioane și 3 porți. Bastionul a fost recondiționat, iar în interior vă puteți relaxa la o cafea sau intra în una dintre galeriile de artă ce își au sediul aici. Dacă vă fascinează povestea fortificației, puteți să dați o fugă până la Central Business District, în Piața 700 – noul cartier de afaceri, în fața căruia a fost scos de sub pământ un stăvilar foarte bine conservat, folosit în cadrul sistemului de apărare din jurul bastionului. Stăvilarul, construit din cărămidă, dale de piatră și pavat cu lemn, avea rolul de evacuare a apei din șanțul de apărare a cetății.

Union Square, the locals’ favorite place to go out with friends or business partners, hosts not only countless cafes, but also the Baroque Palace, today the city’s Art Museum. The square is bordered on one of its edges by the imposing RomanCatholic Dome, and opposite to it, by the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Serbian Church (seeing as Timisoara is home to a large Serbian community, among Hungarians and Germans). The last leg of the central route consists of visiting the Maria Theresia Bastion, the only one left of the huge fortification system built by the Austrians in the 18th century, which had 3 star-shaped belts which could be filled with water, 9 bulwarks and 3 gates. The bastion was refurbished, and inside you can relax while enjoying your coffee or visit one of the art galleries which can be found here. If you find yourself fascinated by the story of the fortification, you can drop by the Central Business District, in 700 Square – the new office district, in front of which a very well preserved dam, used in the bulwark’s defensive system, was unearthed during construction works. The dam, erected using brickwork, stone slabs and paved with wood, was used to evacuate water from the fortress’ defensive moat.

Spre deosebire de alte orașe din România, Timișoara are mai multe cartiere istorice (nu doar zona centrală). Aceste cartiere apar precum niște enclave, deoarece orașul s-a format prin alăturarea mai multor așezări vechi din jurul Cetății Timișoarei, după demolarea fortificațiilor de apărare, la sfârșitul secolului al XIX-lea. Vă invităm, astfel, să faceți un traseu și în afara centrului istoric, râul Bega fiindu-vă ghidul perfect, iar bicicleta mijlocul recomandat. Pentru a ajunge în cartierul Fabric, punctul de plecare al acestui traseu, veniți din zona Cetate pe Bulevardul Revoluției 1989 și podul Decebal; promitem că merită plimbarea. După un tur al acestui cartier, în jurul celor două piețe din zonă - Piața Traian şi Piața Romanilor - puteți să vă pierdeți pe străduțe pline de istorie şi, urmărind canalul Bega, veţi ajunge în Elisabetin. În acest cartier istoric, frumoasele biserici de felurite confesiuni şi străduţele liniştite vă vor încânta ochii şi vă vor purta mai departe în călătorie. Astfel, veţi ajunge în cartierul Iosefin, și el în curs de renovare, un loc însă unde imaginația vă poate transpune direct în timpurile Imperiului Habsburgic. Pieţele Maria, Kuttle şi Iosefin sporesc farmecul aparte al acestui cartier, al cărui nume provine de la cel al Împăratului Iosif al II-lea (în timpul domniei căruia a fost întemeiat). Dacă ai trecut prin toate cartiere istorice și încă nu v-aţi plictisit de biciclit, să știţi că vă așteaptă o mare provocare: trecând de Iosefin, de-a lungul Canalului Bega există o pistă de biciclete ce vă poate duce până în Serbia! Vă puteţi bucura astfel și de tablourile de toamnă din Banatul rural. Dar de la atâta plimbare sigur vi se face sete și foame. Deși nu mai locuiesc de mult în Timișoara, prietenii de acolo mi-au rămas pe viaţă. Ei au fost cei care m-au ajutat să construiesc un top al cafenelelor și restaurantelor din oraş. Bonus: două locuri faine de cazare.

Unlike other Romanian cities, Timisoara has more than one historical district (apart from its central area). These neighborhoods appear to be enclaves due to the fact that the city took shape following the unification of a number of old settlements around Timisoara’s Fortress, after the defensive fortifications were demolished at the end of the 19th century. We therefore urge you to visit more than just the historical center. The Bega river and a bike will be your perfect guides. In order to reach Fabric district, the starting point of this tour, from the Fortress Area, walk along 1989 Revolution Boulevard and Decebal bridge – it’s worth it, we promise. After a tour of this area, in the surroundings of Traian Square and Romans Square, you can wander on the charming streets and, following the Bega river, you will reach Elisabetin. In this historical district, the beautiful churches of different denominations and the quiet streets will enchant you and will take you further on this journey. From here on, you will reach the Josefin District, it too currently undergoing renovation works, nonetheless a place where your imagination can take you straight back to the days of the Habsburg Empire. The three squares - Mary, Kuttle and Josefin - enhance the charm of this district, that was built during the reign of Emperor Joseph II. If, after visiting all the historical districts, you still haven’t had enough of biking, you’re ready for a major challenge: passing the Josefin District, along the Bega Canal, there is a bicycle path waiting for you, which can take you all the way to Serbia! This way, you can also enjoy the autumn landscapes of rural Banat. All this walking will surely make you thirsty and hungry. Despite the fact that I left Timisoara a long time ago, I keep my friends there close. They were the ones who helped me put together a list of the best cafes and restaurants in Timisoara. LACERTA Lacerta Winery își pregătește producția de vin într-una dintre cele mai bogate zone viticole din România, la Dealu Mare, în Muntenia. Zona conferă strugurilor un gust bogat și complex și, așa cum spun cei de la Lacerta, atunci când ai fructe de calitate, munca în pivniță e și mai ușoară. La crama Lacerta, renovată de curând, puteți încerca unul dintre cele mai renumite vinuri premium din Europa de Est, câștigător al „Medaliei de aur” în San Francisco, dar și cu premii la alte concursuri de vin internaționale. S.E.R.V.E. S.E.R.V.E. este un producător de vin cu tradiție și istorie în România, fiind prima societate privată din domeniul vinicol românesc imediat după revoluție. Mai exact, S.E.R.V.E. a luat naștere în 1994 și de atunci a crescut la 60 de hectare de vie în Dealu Mare (unde strugurii roșii la conducere), dar și 56 de hectare în zona Dobrogei pentru soiurile albe. Crama a beneficiat de cunoștințele contelui Guy Tyrel de Poix atunci când a fost fondată, dânsul fiind un mare iubitor de vinuri și un promotor al podgoriilor românești printre francezi. Din 2001, de la prima îmbuteliere, până de curând, crama a tot fost modernizată astfel încât să susțină producția, dar și să fie în pas cu tehnicile noi de vinificație. S.E.R.V.E. Ceptura e în județul Prahova, aproape de București și aici aveți ocazia să vedeți „casa” unui pionier în domeniul viticol, S.E.R.V.E. afirmând cu mândrie că a dat primul Rosé sec din România, primul vin Cuvée și că a contribuit la renașterea soiului Fetească Neagră.

Crama Lacerta

LACERTA Lacerta Winery produces its wine in one of the richest wine-growing areas of Romania, in Dealu Mare, Muntenia. This area gives the grapes a rich and complex taste and as those from Lacerta say, when you have quality grapes at your disposal, the cellar work is much easier. At the Lacerta winery, which has been recently refurbished, you can try one of the most renowned premium wines in Eastern Europe, a winner of the ‘Gold medal’ in San Francisco, also boasting multiple awards in other international wine competitions. The winery and vineyard are just an hour away from Bucharest, in an area where the landscape and the air provide an intense sensation of holiday and recreation. Furthermore, the winery also has a beautiful garden where you can enjoy the view, as well as the Dorobantu Mansion, built by the famous Romanian architect Ion Mincu. Moreover, during the harvesting of the ripe grapes, you can indulge in fresh non-alcoholic grape juice, ‘must’ or stum – the healthiest superfood, as well as wine from reservoirs, in all stages of production, or straight from the barrique – the oak barrel.

S.E.R.V.E. is a wine producer with a rich tradition and history in Romania, becoming the first private company in the Romanian wine-growing industry right after the revolution. Specifically, S.E.R.V.E. was established in 1994 and, since then, it has grown to own 60 hectares of vineyards in Dealu Mare (where the red grapes are king), as well as 56 hectares in Dobrogea for white varieties. Corcova este locul unde vinul a fost liant pentru mai multe personalități marcante din România. Podgoria era locul unde prințul și prințesa din familia Bibescu alegeau să-și petreacă vacanța și alături de ei adunau și mari nume din literatura românească. Mai mult, frumusețea moșiei a inspirat chiar și scriitori străini precum Marcel Proust, care menționează împrejurimile din Mehedinți în operele sale. Așadar, dacă vreți să vizitați o cramă în care istoria și cultura se discutau la un pahar de vin, sunteți așteptați la Corcova. Aici, cramele construite de prințul Antoine Bibescu au fost refăcute complet în perioada 2008 - 2009, respectând arhitectura inițială. Acum, Corcova, situată în sud-vestul țării, vă așteapă cu soiuri nobile crescute respecând o filozofie a ecologistului David Brower, teorie care parcă dă o notă distinctivă vinului: „Nu moștenim pământul de la strămoși; îl împrumutăm doar, pentru copiii noștri”.

Cramele Recaș se află într-o zonă viticolă în care tradiția și cultura de vin moștenite de la artizanii podgoriilor străvechi au creat fundamentul pentru una dintre marile crame ale României, una ale cărei vii au fost atestate încă din 1447. La crama situată la doar 40 de minute depărtare de Timișoara găsiți unele dintre cele mai bune vinuri din țară, multe fiind premiate la concursuri internaționale și naționale, Recaș având în palmares Marele Trofeu pentru cel mai bun vin alb sec din lume, vinul Solo Quinta. O cramă frumoasă, un design rustic modern, o priveliște care să încânte privirile multora, la Recaș puteți degusta vinuri produse cu multă pasiune pentru strugure.

Avincis este o apariție relativ recentă în peisajul vinicol românesc, un proiect creat din pasiunea unui cuplu pentru frumoasa zonă Drăgăşani din România, aproape de mănăstirile din zona Olteniei. Aici au revenit în 2007 Cristiana Stoica şi soţul său, moment în care emoţia amintirilor, frumuseţea locului și calitatea vinurilor degustate în împrejurimi au fost fitilul de la care soții Stoica și-au pornit proiectul de suflet. Au pornit prin restaurarea conacului familial și și-au propus să readucă farmecul podgoriei în atenția publicului. Au reușit, astfel încât acum Avincis este mai mult decât o cramă, domeniul integrând conacul, cele 50 de hectare de viță de vie și de pădure, dar și locuri de cazare pentru vizitatori, locuri deasupra cramei cu o vedere impresionantă asupra domeniului, viei şi râului Olt, teren de sport şi spaţiu special amenajat pentru degustare de vinuri.

Corcova is the place where wine was an element of bonding for several key personalities in Romania. The vineyard was the venue where the Prince and Princess of the Bibescu family chose to spend their holidays, and they were usually joined by important names from Romanian literature. Moreover, the beautiful estate has inspired even foreign writers, such as Marcel Proust, who mentions the Mehedinti area in his works. Therefore, if you wish to visit a winery where history and culture used to be talking points over a glass of wine, you are welcome at Corcova. Here, the wineries built by Prince Antoine Bibescu were completely reconditioned during 2008 – 2009, being faithful to the initial architecture. Nowadays, Corcova, located in the south-western area of the country, awaits you with noble varieties grown according to the philosophy of ecologist David Brower, a theory that seems to give a distinctive taste to the wine: ‘We do not inherit the land from our ancestors; we only borrow it, for our children’.

Cramele Recas Winery is located in a wine-growing area where the tradition and culture inherited from the artisans of ancient vineyards represented the foundation for one of the greatest wineries of Romania, one that boasts vineyards that are attested from way back, in 1447. At the winery located just 40 minutes away from Timisoara, you will find some of the best wines in the country, many of them being award winners in international and national competitions, with Recas being the holder of the Grand Prize for the best dry white wine in the world, the Solo Quinta. A lovely winery, with a modern rustic design, a view that will be a delight for the eyes of many, Recas is the place where you can taste wines made with a lot of passion for the grape.

Avincis is a relatively recent name in the Romanian wine-growing industry, a project created from a couple’s passion for the beautiful Dragasani area in Romania. Close to the monasteries of Oltenia, upon returning here in 2007, Cristiana Stoica and her husband were overwhelmed by the emotion of memories, the beautiful landscapes and the quality of wines they tasted; this was the spark for the Stoica family to start their passion project. The first step was to restore the family mansion and then to bring the charm of this winery to the attention of the public again. They have succeeded and Avincis is now more than a winery, with an estate that includes the mansion, the 50 hectares of vineyards and forests, as well as accommodation for visitors, located above the vineyard and boasting amazing views over the estate, the vineyard and the Olt river, a sports court and a specially designated area for wine tasting.

Revista noastră s-a vrut mereu un canal de difuzare pentru proiectele care ne inspiră, ce dezvoltă comunități și oferă șanse reale celor vulnerabili. Așa am ajuns și la proiectul A.CASĂ, un exemplu de arhitectură umanitară ce a constat în proiectarea și construirea unei case cu mijloace low-cost pentru o norocoasă familie din comuna Roșia, județul Sibiu. Am vorbit cu Flavia Matei - viitoare arhitectă căreia îi aparține proiectul casei, pentru a afla mai multe despre acest proiect. Un simplu, dar la obiect exemplu despre cum arhitectura umanitară poate schimba vieți și dezvolta comunități.

CUM A ÎNCEPUT SCHIMBAREA LA ROȘIA Prima inițiativă pentru „satul de jos” din Roșia a avut loc în 1998 sub forma unui program de alfabetizare dedicat comunității defavorizate de acolo. Situația cu care se confrunta comunitatea era următoarea: segregarea etnică și discriminarea duceau inevitabil la abandon școlar și, implicit, la analfabetism. La scurt timp s-a deschis Școala Waldorf „H. Spalinger”, care a avut ca scop includerea imediată în sistemul educațional a acelor copii proveniți din familii vulnerabile. Proiectul a crescut rapid: s-au adăugat o grădiniță și o cantină școlii și s-au făcut parteneriate cu Şcoala „R. Steiner Schwabing” din München, Asociaţia ProRoşia München şi Asociaţia „Schule für Romakinder” Zürich, care derulează proiecte comunitare în Roșia. Asociația școlii Waldorf din München are ca scop creșterea standardului de viață a familiilor „din vale” și îmbunătățirea condițiilor de locuit de acolo. Se construiesc în Roșia de 3 ani încoace locuințe complet noi pentru comunitate. Până acum, s-au folosit doar tehnici de construcție clasice. Anul acesta, conceptul s-a dezvoltat mai departe însă: un prototip de locuire low-cost, axat pe materiale locale și reciclare. Un stil de locuire sănătos și durabil – un proiect intitulat sugestiv A.CASĂ şi finanțat de Asociaţia ProRosia München. Aici a început de fapt aportul Flaviei la proiect. Flavia Matei este o tânără arhitectă ce s-a specializat pe arhitectura umanitară la Universitatea Tehnică din Viena. Pentru lucrarea de diplomă, ea și-a dorit să contribuie la

un proiect comunitar din România, iar după luni de căutare a ajuns la Roșia.

ARHITECTURĂ UMANITARĂ „Ca soluție, am convenit asupra tehnicii cărămizilor din pământ, arse la soare. Am exploatat mai departe resursele zonei și am ajuns la alte soluții inovative: izolarea pardoselii cu sticle refolosite și acoperirea ei cu cărămizi reciclate, izolarea tavanului cu trestie, tencuială din pământ, mobilă din europaleți. Scopul a fost să arătăm întregii comunități că arhitectura nu este un lux, iar calitatea unui spațiu locuit se poate atinge și prin soluții simple și ieftine”, povestește Flavia despre tehnica pe care a gândit-o pentru casă. Strategia de implementare a proiectului în sine (șantier participativ, inter-generational, divers, cooperativ și non-violent) întregește și ea, prin caracterul ei, latura socială și umanitară a proiectului.

PUNCT ȘI DE LA CAPĂT Ținta a fost un impuls de activare într-o comunitate în care letargia predomina – căsuța familiei, la clădirea căreia au contribuit și familia alături de prieteni, vecini și voluntari, va rămâne proiectul lor de viață. Arhitectura devine, astfel, și un instrument de dezvoltare individuală și comunitară. Modelul de la Roșia se vrea perfecționat și replicat pentru a se transforma dintr-un proiect familial într-un proiect comunitar. Un alt proiect ce vrea să acționeze ca un nou impuls de activare a comunității este un centru de meșteșuguri la Roșia, centru pentru a cărui dezvoltare asociațiile active în Roșia sunt în căutare de voluntari, fonduri și asociații partenere cu experiență în proiecte comunitare participative, așa că nu ezitați să îi contactați dacă vreti să vă implicați.

n Romania, one can find lots of people (Romanians and others from far and wide) with a vision and a desire to help, who create through their energy and projects to bring about well-being, hope and beauty. Our magazine has always been intended to be a channel of dissemination for beautiful projects that develop communities and offer real opportunities to people who are vulnerable. This is how we discovered the A.CASĂ project, an example of humanitarian architecture which consisted of designing and constructing a home with low-cost means for a lucky family from the commune of Rosia, Sibiu county. I have talked with Flavia Matei - a future architect - who has made the blueprint for the house, in order to find out more about this project. A simple but succinct example about how humanitarian architecture can change lives and develop communities.

HOW THE CHANGE STARTED IN ROŞIA The first initiative for ‘the village below’ in Roşia took place in 1998 in the form of a literacy program dedicated to the underprivileged community that lived there. The community was facing a situation of ethnical segregation and discrimination which inevitably lead to dropping out of school and subsequently to illiteracy. Shortly after that, the ‘H. Spalinger’ Waldorf School opened, a school that had the goal of immediate inclusion into the educational system of children coming from vulnerable families. The project grew fast: a kindergarten and a school cafeteria were added and partnerships were struck up with 2 Waldorf schools in Switzerland and Germany, which, through their associations, are working on community projects in Roşia. The association of the Waldorf School in Munich aims to increase the standard of living of the families ‘in the valley’ and to improve the living conditions there. For the last 3 years, Roşia has

witnessed the building of completely new homes for the community. As of now, only classical construction methods have been used. However, this year, the concept has developed further: a prototype of low-cost housing, focused on local materials and recycling. A healthy and durable kind of dwelling – a project entitled suggestively A.CASĂ. This is where Flavia’s contribution to the project actually started. Flavia Matei is a young architect who specialised in humanitarian architecture at the Technical University of Vienna. For her thesis, she wanted to contribute to a community project in Romania and, after months of searching, she found Roşia.

HUMANITARIAN ARCHITECTURE ‘As a solution, we agreed on the method of earth bricks, burned by the heat of the sun. We continued to exploit the area’s resources and we’ve discovered other innovative solutions: insulating the floor with reused bottles and covering it with recycled bricks, insulating the ceiling with reeds, earth plaster, furniture made of euro-pallets. The goal was to show the entire community that architecture is not a luxury, and the quality of a living space can also be obtained through simple and inexpensive solutions’, recounts Flavia about the method she developed for the house. The implementation strategy for the actual project – a hands-on, inter-generational, diverse, cooperative and eco-friendly building site – also complements, by its nature, the social and humanitarian aspect of the project.

FULL STOP AND START AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING The target was a surge of energy in a community, in which lethargy predominated – the family’s modest home, which was built by themselves along with the help of friends, neighbors and volunteers will forever remain a major life achievement. Making architecture becomes thus an instrument of individual and community development. There is a willingness that the ‘Roşia model’ will be improved and replicated in order to shift from a family-based to a community project. Another project is meant to act as a new surge of energy for the community - the craft center in Roşia - and the associations that are active in Roşia are looking for volunteers, funds and partner associations with experience in participatory community projects in order to develop this ambitious endeavor.

I wanted to lift everything beyond the Earth. I made the stone sing for mankind. My sculptures were made even for the blind. My gift to you is pure joy’, said Constantin Brancusi, one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century.

PRIMA COMANDĂ ȘI SUCCESUL

He was born in 1876, in the village of Hobita, Gorj county, Romania. As a little kid, he used to go away from home, spending years and years as an apprentice in various dye workshops and stalls. Thus, in 1902 he completed his studies at the Belle-Arte School in Bucharest. V. G. Paleolog in his book ‘Tineretea lui Brancusi’ (The Youth of Brancusi), recounts how, in 1903, Constantin received his first order for a public monument, the bust of general physician Carol Davila, which was placed at the Military Hospital in Bucharest and is the only public monument created by Brancusi which can be seen in the capital.

MOȘTENIREA ȘI SIMPLITATEA

„Mor cu inima întristată pentru că nu mă pot întoarce în țara mea”, s-a confesat artistul arhiepiscopului Teofil Ionescu, slujitor la biserica ortodoxă din Paris. A murit la 16 martie 1957, la ora 2 dimineața, iar la 19 martie a fost înmormântat în cimitirul Montparnasse din Paris. Sculptorul român a dorit să lase moștenire României toate lucrările sale nevândute și uneltele, dar autoritățile acelor vremuri au refuzat. Abia în 1964 Brâncuși a fost „redescoperit” în țara natală, iar ansamblul monumental de la Târgu Jiu a putut fi restaurat, după ce fusese abandonat și aproape dărâmat. În opera sa, Brâncuși a reușit să exprime viziunea țăranului român asupra lumii înconjurătoare și a renunțat la orice element secundar, în favoarea evidențierii esenței lucrurilor.

LEGACY AND SIMPLICITY

‘I will die with my heart broken because I can’t go back to my country’, the artist confessed to arch-bishop Teofil Ionescu, a servant of the Orthodox Church in Paris. He died on the 16th of March 1957, at 2 in the morning, and on the 19th of March he was buried in the Montparnasse cemetery, in Paris. The Romanian sculptor wanted to leave all his unsold works and tools as an inheritance to Romania, but the authorities refused at the time. It was later, in 1964, when Brancusi was ‘rediscovered’ in his native country, and the sculptural ensemble in Targu Jiu was restored, after being abandoned and almost destroyed. In his works, Brancusi has succeeded in expressing the way in which the Romanian peasant views his surrounding environment and put aside any secondary element, highlighting the essence of things.

The Infinity Column is, in fact, the central and most important work in the entire creation of the sculptor, imposingly rising towards the sky, symbolically lifting the souls of his people.

The Centre Pompidou in Paris is the home of modern art and the place that is hosting the Brancusi studio, where the artist worked since 1916 until his death. Here you are able to see 137 sculptures, but also paintings, original prints, pedestals and photos. Towards the end of his life, the artist no longer created sculptures, instead focusing more and more on the studio. Whenever he sold one of his works, he immediately

replaced it with a copy so that the unity of that space is maintained. Paris is also home to many other works signed by Brancusi, which can be seen at the Musée de la Sculpture en plein air or at the Jardin Tino Rossi.

The work Maiastra can be seen at TATE Modern, a creation that is strongly rooted in Romanian traditions.

BERLIN

Acum trei ani, localnicii nu visau la holograme, oameni veniți din toate colțurile lumii, interesați să cumpere zacuscă sau răchie, și nu visau specii dispărute să revină în Munții Țarcu. Și cu siguranță nu visau că povestea lor o să ajungă în The Guardian, Le Monde și aici, în fața ta.

LEGENDE CU ZIMBRI...

Zimbrul a fost mereu un animal impresionant, mitologic, pe care românii îl știu mai ales din legende și folclor. Iar Carpații au fost, în România, ultimul refugiu al zimbrilor, înainte să dispară definitiv de aici în 1790. Așa că pare firesc că zimbrul a revenit în 2014 în vestul Carpaţilor Meridionali, în Munții Țarcu. O turmă cu 20 de membri trăiește deja în sălbăticie și încă o turmă de 10 zimbri, aduși anul acesta, se află în

Three years ago, the locals were not even dreaming of holograms, people coming from all over the world, interested in buying vegetable spread or brandy, and were not dreaming extinct species that would return to the Tarcu Mountains. They most certainly did not dream that their story would end up in The Guardian, Le Monde and here, in front of you.

LEGENDS ABOUT BISONS...

The European bison was always an impressive, mythological animal, one that Romanians know especially from legends and folklore. Carpathians were the last refuge of the bison, before they vanished forever from this land in 1790. So it seems natural that the bison has returned in 2014 in the South-Western

etapa de aclimatizare; asta pentru că revenirea zimbrului este susținută de efortul cumulat al mai multor ONGuri și al localnicilor. În afară de Munții Țarcu, zimbri liberi mai pot fi întâlniți și în Parcul Natural Vânători Neamț, primul nucleu de reintroducere a speciei în natură din țara noastră. România este, astfel, din nou una dintre țările europene cu zimbri sălbatici, în total fiind nouă: Letonia, Lituania, Belarus, Ucraina, Polonia, Slovacia, Rusia și Germania.

Zimbrul a fost reintrodus în sălbăticie la noi, pentru a contribui la menținerea peisajului mozaicat, dar nu a transformat doar peisajul natural, ci și comunitățile. CUM SCHIMBĂ ZIMBRII PEISAJUL NATURAL: 60 DE KG DE PLANTE CONSUMATE ZILNIC

Extrem de social, acest animal legendar își petrece mare parte a timpului în turma condusă de o femelă, care stă în mare parte cu vițeii și adolescenții. Zimbrii se hrănesc și dorm împreună în pădure, deși altfel preferă spații deschise. Consumă iarbă, dar și arbuşti, mărăcini, puieţi și scoarță de frasin, alun, salcie sau stejar, specii preferate cel puțin în Munții Carpați. În total, un zimbru poate să mănânce 60 de kilograme de hrană pe zi, modelând astfel vegetația zonei: ajută la păstrarea zonelor deschise şi la crearea unui peisaj variat.

Zimbrul e cel mai mare mamifer terestru din Europa, ajungând să cântărească până la 1000 de kilograme și să aibă o înălțime la greabăn chiar și peste 1,9 m. Odinioară era prezent pe tot continentul, cu excepţia unor zone din Spania, Italia şi nordul Scandinaviei, dar azi e o specie mai rară decât rinocerul negru, în lume existând puțin peste 3400 de zimbri în sălbăticie. • The bison is the largest terrestrial mammal in Europe, and can reach a weight of up to 1,000 kilograms and a towering height of 1.9 m. Long ago, it was present on the entire continent, with the exception of certain areas of Spain, Italy and northern Scandinavia, but today it is a species that is rarer than the black rhinoceros, and as of now, in the world, there are a little over 3,400 bisons left living in the wild.

Carpathians, in the Tarcu Mountains. A herd of 20 specimens is already living in the wilderness and another herd of 10 bisons, brought this year, is in the acclimation phase; this is because the return of the bison is supported by the cumulative effort of multiple NGOs and of the locals. Romania is one of the European countries with wild bisons, nine countries in total: Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, the Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Russia and Germany.

THE BISON WAS REINTRODUCED IN THE WILD IN OUR COUNTRY, IN ORDER TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE PRESERVATION OF THE MOSAIC-LIKE LANDSCAPE; IT HAS TRANSFORMED NOT ONLY THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE, BUT THE COMMUNITY TOO. HOW THE BISONS CHANGE THE NATURAL LANDSCAPE: 60 KG OF PLANTS EATEN DAILY

This legendary animal spends most of its time in the herd led by a female that stays mostly with the calves and the adolescents. Bisons feed and sleep together in the woods, but otherwise prefer open spaces. They eat grass, also shrubs, briars, saplings and bark of ash, filbert, willow or oak, species preferred at least in the Carpathians. Overall, a bison can eat 60 kilograms of food every day, thus shaping the vegetation in the area: this helps to keep areas open and create a varied landscape.

CUM SCHIMBĂ ZIMBRII COMUNITĂȚILE: HOLOGRAME ȘI ECOTURISM

În această vară, zimbrii au devenit și holograme, ce pot fi văzute tot la Armeniș. Dar înainte să apară hologramele, localnicii au lucrat cot la cot cu peste 50 de voluntari din toată țara, ONG-uri și designeri contemporani și au transformat centrul de vizitare radical: cu picturi murale realizate de Pisica Pătrată pe toți pereții exteriori ai clădirii, cu mobilier realizat prin tehnici vechi cu îmbinări tip „coadă de rândunică” și, mai ales, cu suveniruri autentice. Localnicii oferă spre vânzare zacuscă, răchie, dulcețuri și siropuri, toate produse local, în cadrul Asociației Măgura Zimbrilor Armeniș sau, pe scurt, AMZA. Este modul în care au ales să se organizeze, pentru că vor să ofere iubitorilor de ecoturism, cei care au timp pentru natură, serviciile și produsele de care au nevoie.

În această toamnă, WWF aniversează 10 ani de muncă de conservare în România. 10 ani în care am salvat pădurile virgine, am refăcut cca 2500 de ha de luncă și, alături de Rewilding Europe, am adus zimbrul acasă.

HOW THE BISONS CHANGE COMMUNITIES: HOLOGRAMS AND ECOTOURISM

This summer, bisons have also become holograms which can also be seen in Armenis, but before they appeared, the locals worked side by side with over 50 volunteers from the entire country, NGOs and contemporary designers and have radically transformed the visitation center: with murals created by Square Cat on all the outer walls of the building, with furniture made with ‘dovetail’ joints and, most importantly, with authentic souvenirs. The locals sell vegetable spread, brandy, preserves and syrups, all manufactured locally, part of the Bison Hillock Association (AMZA). This is how they chose to organise themselves, because they want to offer people who love ecotourism and people who have time for nature, the services and products they need.

Centrul de vizitare din comună redă date științifice despre zimbru într-un format interactiv, prin cea mai mare proiecție holografică Pepper’s Ghost din Europa, aceeași tehnologie folosită și în filmele SF. Datele care „hrănesc” hologramele sunt colectate în mod continuu din teren, de către stagiari din România și din străinătate ce studiază diverse discipline relevante legate de științele naturii. Ei lucrează și locuiesc la câțiva km distanță, la Stația de cercetare din Feneș, în incinta vechiului Cămin cultural; loc readus la viață tot de voluntari și localnici. Iar când nu monitorizează impactul zimbrului asupra ecosistemului, studenții organizează excursii pentru turiștii care vor să experimenteze o zi din viața unui cercetător în Măgura Zimbrilor. Apoi merg cu ei, să îi învețe să asculte și să vadă natura: cum să recunoască urme de zimbru, mistreț, capră neagră sau vulpe și cum să facă diferența între un copac rupt de grabă și unul ros de zimbru. Totul încheindu-se cu o noapte de cazare la un milion de stele, în natură.

...AND SCI-FI BISONS

The visitation center in the commune offers scientific data about the bison in an interactive format, by means of the largest Pepper’s Ghost holographic projection in Europe, the same technology used in sci-fi movies. The data that ‘feed’ the holograms is continuously collected from the field, by interns from Romania and from abroad. They live and work at the Research station in Fenes, on the grounds of the old Community center; a place that was brought back to life also by the volunteers and the locals. When they are not monitoring the impact of the bison on the ecosystem, the students organise trips for tourists that want to experience a day in the life of a researcher in Bison Hillock. Then they teach them to listen to nature and see how they can recognise tracks left by a bison, a wild boar, a chamois or a fox and how they can tell the difference between a tree that was broken in a hurry or gnawed at by a wisent. It all ends with a night spent in lodgings that have a million stars, namely, in nature.

Carefully hidden in a lush green setting in the south of Brussels, the Van Buuren Museum opens its doors to a well preserved Art Deco universe which could take you back in time about 80 years.

The Art Deco house was built by Alice and David Van Buuren – a couple of seasoned fine art collectors back in 1928 and still stands the test of time. Their private collection has since been transformed in a museum, as was the wish expressed by Alice van Buuren that their entire collection stays intact. Several gardens have been created around the house and names of most known artists of the green have been mentioned at its inauguration. The ‘Picturesque Garden’ enchanted their owners as soon as the house was complete, towards the end of the 1920s, thanks to the work of Jules Buyssens (1872-1958 for those who like precision), one of the first Belgian landscape architects.

The Labyrinth is created on sloping land, which allows one to catch all its curves in one go, although it’s still easy to get lost inside. The 26 acres initially assigned to the garden space have since developed to a surface of 1.5 hectares today – giving plenty of space for a charming stroll.

The beautiful castle and surroundings hosted the day to day activities of a noble family, so the landscape and facilities have been laid to suit their lifestyle. Turn the time machine back to 1911 to witness the establishment of the landscape as we know it today with the contribution of Jules Buyssens,

renowned landscape artist of the period. Charming combination of well-trimmed spaces and original wild landscape, the park unveils to the visitor a beautiful rose garden (added in 1922-24), an orchard and a vegetable garden, but one can also stop on the banks of the lake or discover the ‘glacier’ - the ancient way of preserving ice from winter in pits dug into the ground. The castle has been partially destroyed by a fire back in 1981 and the remaining ruins dominating from the top of the hill do not harm the landscape, on the contrary, add some extra charming spooky atmosphere to the whole space. Only recently, authorities have initiated a rehabilitation project, wishing to find an appropriate destination to this beautiful building. atania este un oraș cu o ofertă greu de refuzat: plaje minunate, înconjurate de câmpuri de flori, un centru istoric peste care stilul baroc și Renașterea și-au lăsat amprenta, piațete cochete pline de restaurante cu mâncare excelentă și o viață de noapte efervescentă, plus învecinarea cu impunătorul vulcan Etna. De această dată însă ne-am propus să vă spunem mai multe despre cultura culinară a acestui oraș, o cultură ce poartă la vedere multe influențe. Până una alta, nu puteți vizita orașul fără să încercați câteva dintre preparatele care sfințesc locul, cum ar fi pastele alla Norma - penne, sos de roșii, felii de vinete și ricotta sărată. Dacă aveți stomac pentru așa ceva, o altă specialitate a zonei este carnea de cal gătită pe cărbuni și vândută de cele mai multe ori ca street-food, dar pe care sunteţi invitaţi să o descoperiți de asemenea în meniurile restaurantelor. De exemplu, în zona din jurul castelului Ursino veți găsi restaurante renumite pentru specialitățile din carne de cal, la prețuri pentru toate buzunarele. Alte preparate tradiționale pentru Catania sunt așa numitele Arancini crochete din orez umplute cu sos de carne tocată, ciuperci, fistic sau somon afumat. atania is a city with an offer that is hard to refuse: wonderful beaches, surrounded by fields of flowers, a historical center heavily influenced by the Baroque and Renaissance styles, stylish squares full of restaurants serving excellent dishes and a lively nightlife, as well as the proximity to the imposing Etna volcano. On this occasion, however, our aim is to showcase the culinary culture of this city, a culture which has many influences. After all, you cannot visit the city without trying some of its famous dishes, such as the alla Norma pasta – penne, tomato sauce, aubergine slices and salted ricotta. If you have the stomach for it, another local dish is horse meat prepared on coal and most often sold as street-food, but which you can also discover it on the menus of restaurants. For example, in the area surrounding the Ursino castle, you will find restaurants that are famous for their horse meat dishes, with prices accommodating all pockets. Other traditional meals in Catania include the renowned Arancini – rice croquettes filled with minced meat, mushrooms, pistachio or smoked salmon. You will easily recognise them in any self-service restaurant, due to their orange color stemming from saffron. Moreover, Catania is also famous for a very generous offer of citrus fruits. Here, you will find all kind of varieties that you’ve probably never heard of before: Ovale, Sanguinella, Tarocco, Femminello, Monachello, Verdello etc. As we were saying earlier, Catania has a unique cuisine, deeply rooted in the traditions of many other cultures. In the kitchen, the use of ingredients such as: apricots, citrus fruits, rice, saffron, raisins, cardamom, pine nuts, cinnamon, encapsulates the period in which Sicily was under Arabic occupation, between the 10th and 11th centuries. Before the Spanish made their own contribution by bringing many ‘alien’ food products to this area from the New World (cocoa, corn, pepper, turkey or tomatoes), the local kitchen was heavily influenced by Greek colonists, who have imposed their culinary preferences towards fish, olives,

Oricine se lansează într-un tur al orașului ajunge în mod inevitabil în faimoasa Piață de Pește (La Pescheria). Este un obiectiv turistic, dar și un loc în care localnicii vin de sute de ani, în fiecare zi, pentru a-și face cumpărăturile și pentru a-și satisface poftele. Aceasta este cea mai colorată piață din toată Sicilia și se întinde pe toată suprafața Pieței Alonzo și pe străduțele din jur, aflându-se la o aruncătură de băț de Piazza Duomo. E păcat să părăsiți piața fără să încercați o insalata di arance (o salată de portocale roșii, cu fenicul ras, ton marinat și fileuri de sardine), o porție de spaghetti vongole (cu scoici) sau una de spaghetti ai ricci (prețul mai mare se datorează faptului că e nevoie de carnea de la peste 15 arici de mare pentru a pregăti o singură porție). Dar să nu ne oprim aici. Peștele și fructele de mare sunt atât de proaspete în Catania încât acestea se servesc rareori cu sosuri, fiind gătite cât mai puțin cu putință. Este și cazul specialității Polpo bollito - caracatiță fiartă, servită cu ulei de măsline şi pătrunjel. Sardinele sunt un alt tip de pește foarte popular în Catania, așa că încercați cu încredere orice tip de mâncare pe bază de sardine. Așadar, nu ezitați să vă lansați într-o călătorie prin acest labirint culinar numit Catania, pentru că dragostea trece prin stomac, dar vacanțele sunt de neuitat.

However, if there is one straight line in this entire culinary labyrinth, it will lead towards the sea, since the city of Catania feeds itself, literally and figuratively, from the waters washing its shores. Anyone wishing to take on a tour of the city will ultimately reach the famous Fish Market (La Pescheria). It is a tourist attraction, as well as a place for locals visiting it for hundreds of years, on a daily basis, in order to do their shopping and feed their appetites. This is the most colorful market in the whole of Sicily, stretching along the entire surface of the Piazza Alonzo and the neighboring streets, only a few steps away from the Piazza Duomo. It is a noisy and crowded place, where sellers and fishermen shout their special prices and catches, but also a place where you can constantly discover new kinds of fish, fresh seafood and mouth-watering culinary products. There are few places in this world where you can eat a tuna or swordfish steak that is fresher. It would be a sin to leave the market without trying an insalata di arance (blood orange salad, with shredded fennel, marinated tuna and sardine fillets), a serving of spaghetti vongole (with clams) or spaghetti ai ricci (a higher price due to the fact that it requires meat from over 15 sea urchins for a single serving). However, we shouldn’t stop here. The fish and sea food is so fresh in Catania, that they are rarely served with sauces, but rather cooked as little as possible. This is also true for the Polpo bollito specialty – boiled octopus, served with olive oil and parsley. Sardines are also a popular type of fish in Catania, so you should definitely try any type sardine based dish. Do not hesitate to go on an adventure through this culinary labyrinth named Catania, it will not only bring love to your stomach, but will also give you unforgettable holidays.

TIBIDABO – it’s not that easy to get here, but the effort is well worth it. This place provides the best view of Barcelona but it’s also the location for an amusement park and the Sagrat Cor church. Aside from that, on the way to the top, you will pass through the richest neighborhood of the city and put your imagination through its paces. PARK GUELL – no holiday in Barcelona is complete without visiting this park. aginile ce urmează se doresc a fi o călătorie în timp sau în interior, pentru a activa copilul care se află în fiecare dintre noi. Călătoria vă va purta prin universul ilustrat al cărților de astăzi dedicate copiilor, dar vă va face cunoștință și cu ilustratorii din România care adaugă o dimensiune în plus poveștilor pentru cei mici și cei mari. De asemenea, am stat de vorbă cu ei și despre viitorul cărților ilustrate pentru copii și despre cum văd ei mediul digital: ca pe un amenințare sau ca pe o oportunitate pentru cărțile obiect.

RISTIANA RADU a ilustrat până acum

experiență diferită, e nevoie ca e-bookul să fie ceva mai mult decât un pdf încărcat pe o tabletă. A Magical Picture Book, by Wuwu & co, aplicația care a luat premiul BolognaRagazzi Digital Award anul acesta la Bologna Children’s Book Fair e un bun exemplu. E o poveste prin care te poți deplasa non-linear, printre sunete și ilustrații, și care poate fi explorată la 360 de grade. Se poate și citi, simplu, pe tableta ținută orizontal, însă când o ridici, intri efectiv în pădurea unde trăiesc straniile personaje a căror lume o poți influența. Scuturând tableta poți face să cadă zăpada de pe copaci, poți trezi micii locatari cu un strigăt sau, folosind camera pentru a găsi culori în lumea reală, poți aduce culoare într-o lume întunecată. Interacțiunea fizică surprinzătoare și conectarea realului cu virtualul deschid noi căi de a experimenta povestea”.

The journey will take you through present-day illustrated kids’ books, and will get you acquainted with Romanian illustrators that add an extra touch to the stories for both young and old. I talked with them about the future of kids’ illustrated books and how they see the digital environment - a threat or as an opportunity.

books for children so far and has been awarded for two of them (Călătorie printre ierburi și lumină, by Iulia Iordan, Cartea Copiilor, 2012 and Domnișoara Poimâine și joaca de-a Timpul, by Adina Rosetti, Curtea veche, 2014) in the national competition of book design: The Most Beautiful Romanian Books in 2013 and 2014. The latter received ‘The Best Children’s Book of the Year Award’ at the Bun de Tipar Gala in 2015 and is present in the White Ravens Books 2015 selection, a yearly catalogue of books recommended by the International Jugendbibliothek. Cristiana does not believe that printed books will disappear because they offer unique experiences to feed the mind with a kind of ‘slow food’. On what the future for digital illustrated books looks like, she told us: ‘To provide a truly different experience, the e-book should be something more than a pdf uploaded in a tablet. A Magical Picture Book, by Wuwu & Co., the app that was awarded this year with the BolognaRagazzi Digital Award with the Bologna Children s Book Fair is a good example. It is a story that you can move through in non-linear fashion, where sounds and illustrations can be explored in 360 degrees. You can simply read it as well, by positioning the tablet horizontally, but when you lift it, you actually enter the forest where the strange characters are living in. By shaking the tablet you can make the snow fall off the trees, you can wake up the little inhabitants by shouting. If you use the camera, you can find colours in the real world and bring them into the dark world of fiction. The physical interaction is really surprising and new ways of experiencing the story are opened by connecting the virtual world with the reality’.

IRCEA POP s-a apucat de ilustrație

în clasa a 5-a, fiind trimis la un curs de vară la Casa Copiilor unde a fost inspirat de un artist la lucru. După 3 olimpiade naționale de arte plastice (mențiune, locul 3 și locul 1), Mircea a ajuns la Universitatea de Artă, iar acum e grafician la Grupul Editorial Art. Despre meseria sa, Mircea spune: „Ilustrațiile dau o spațialitate aparte obiectului. Țin minte că citeam Cei trei muşchetari, când eram mic, și era un volum cu niște ilustrații în peniță. A fost prima carte ilustrată frumos care mi-a picat în mâini și parcă puteam să fac o imersiune completă în lectură când vedeam cum își imaginează ilustratorul lumea respectivă. Acum călătoresc în timp și spațiu de fiecare dată când ilustrez o carte, e foarte plăcut. Oamenii nu trebuie privați de acest sentiment, de aceea nu cred că o să dispară prea curând simbioza dintre autor și ilustrator.”

IRCEA POP started to draw

illustrations whilst in 5th grade, as he was sent to a summer course at the Children’s Club where he was inspired by an artist at work. After three national contests in Fine Arts (honour award, 3rd place and first place) Mircea enrolled in the University of Arts and now he is a graphic illustrator with Art Publishing Group. About his job, Mircea says: ‘Illustrations give objects a special spatiality. I remember as a boy I was reading The Three Musketeers and it was an edition with some illustrations drawn with a pen. It was the first beautifully illustrated book I had and it felt like I could immerse myself completely into what I was reading when I saw how the graphic designer imagined the world in the book. Now I am travelling in time and space whenever I illustrate a book, it is very nice. People should not be deprived of this feeling, therefore I do not think the relationship between the author and the illustrator will disappear anytime soon’.

NDREI MĂCEȘANU studiază în

prezent la Universitatea Naţională de Arte și e câştigător al câtorva concursuri de design grafic, până în prezent a ilustrat două titluri. „Ilustraţiile mele prezintă o lume vie, care pulsează dincolo de rigorile realităţii. Văd geometrie şi unitate peste tot şi aplic asta în tot ce fac”, spune el despre stilul său. Despre pericolul tehnologiei: „Faptul că e-book-urile sunt din ce în ce mai prezente ajută la răspândirea mai rapidă a textelor, dar cărțile ilustrate îți oferă o experiență diferită, complexă – desenele îmbogățesc textul. E la fel cum fotografia unui tablou, privită într-un album de artă, nu se va compara niciodată cu pășirea prin fața tabloului real, într-o galerie”.

NDREI MĂCEȘANU is currently

studying within the National University of Arts, he is the winner of several competitions in graphic design and he has illustrated two books. ‘My illustrations reveal a vibrant world that pulsates beyond the rigours of reality. I see geometry and unity everywhere and I apply it in everything I do’, he says discussing his style. About the dangers of technology: ‘The fact that e-books are increasingly present may help spread the text faster, however, the printed books give you a different and complex experience – the drawings enrich a text. It is the same as a photo of a painting in an art book would never be compared to the real painting exhibited in a gallery.’

and author of comics in her studio in Cluj-Napoca. She published three graphic novels, several illustrated children’s books and wrote the script for webcomic Stima Apelor. Regarding the contrast between digital and print, she says: ‘The image is just as powerful, be it made of ink dots on paper or pixels on a screen. For the moment, the printed book seems to have survived quite well in parallel with the digital version. Perhaps because the two offer different types of satisfactions, the paper illustrations are there at the same time, at once, they have texture and materiality, while the virtual ones are fighting each other for access to your digital window, but they can accompany you everywhere’.

Relația dintre text și imagine și cartea ca obiect au fascinat-o de mică, acum având ocazia de a răspunde prin imagini poveștilor din copilărie, dar și propriilor ei povești. Lucrările ei sunt pline de personaje fantastice, uneori ușor stranii, lucrate în culori tari în antagonie cu zone monocrome.

A ilustrat povești clasice, precum Poveste de Crăciun, Aventurile lui Huckleberry Finn și Aventurile lui Tom Sawyer, dar și caiete educative și manuale școlare și multe alte cărți de la edituri din țară și din străinătate. „Parcurgerea unei cărți tipărite îți stimulează mai multe simțuri (olfactiv, vizual, tactil, auditiv). Cred că ele contribuie la conturarea personalității unei cărți, la unicitatea ei. Grafica digitală îți oferă o altă perspectivă, o tehnică de lucru mai rapidă, care-ți poate deschide noi orizonturi, chiar spectaculoase. Prefer ilustrația tradițională, dar experimentez și grafica digitală. Însă, când optez pentru o ilustrare digitală, încep tot pe hârtie. La târgul de carte de la Bologna există deja o secțiune dedicată ilustrației digitale”, ne-a mai povestit Anca.

NCA SMĂRĂNDACHE is a graduate

of the National University of Arts in Bucharest, Mural Painting Department, and is a member of the Union of Artists and Romanian Illustrators Club. At present, she is working as a freelancer and her first illustrated book is used in high schools. Starting with 2012 she began to dedicate her entire time to book illustrations. She illustrated classic tales such as A Christmas Story, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer along with educational textbooks and many other books from Romanian or foreign publishers. ‘Reading a printed book stimulates your senses more (sense of smell, the visuals, sense of touch and hearing). I think they play an important role in shaping the personality of a book and make them unique. The digital graphics offer another perspective, a much faster working technique that can reveal new spectacular horizons. I personally prefer the traditional illustrations, but I also have experience with digital graphics. However, when I choose a digital illustration, I start on paper at first anyway. At the Bologna book fair there is a section dedicated to digital illustrations already’, Anca told us.

Digitalul e fascinant pentru cei mici, mai ales dacă au parte de o experiență interactivă, ceea ce le simplifică puțin procesul creativ. Cărțile ilustrate stimulează pe de-a-ntregul imaginația oamenilor, îi provoacă să își miște singuri personajele dintr-o lume în cealaltă, să fie capabili să vizualizeze povești întregi pornind de la câteva secvențe ilustrate. Eu sunt o idealistă. Cărțile nu vor rămâne niciodată fără baterie.”

I believe the prince will be a quality product and will preserve its collectable feature. Pocket book collections, coffee table albums, book series, collections of illustrated stories, all of them will endure. They are easier to be read, more intuitive, for both children and adults. They have weight, smell, provide a tactile experience as well and their stories have a stronger impact. I think this is where its success lies. In a digital world, the prince will save himself because he will always be with us, physically’.

books, and, in the second half of the year, will be publishing three more along with some other design projects. Regarding the digital versus print, Alexia says: ‘I take a look on the shelves in bookstores and I see a return of the illustrated books. It is not at a fast pace, but it is there and I can see the revival. Digital is fascinating for little ones, especially if they are involved in an interactive experience, which simplifies their creative process a bit. The illustrated books fully stimulate people’s imagination, challenging them to move the characters all by themselves from one world to the other, to be able to visualise the whole story starting from a few illustrated scenes. I am an idealist – books never run out of battery’.

Majoritatea ilustraţiilor sale sunt digitale, dar fiecare din ele se naşte pe o coală de hârtie care urmează a fi colorată pe calculator, în încercarea de a crea personaje şi ilustraţii unice. E membru al Clubului Ilustratorilor din România, lucrează la proiectul jocului de cărţi Măscărici şi e ilustratorul romanului pentru copii Olguţa şi un bunic de milioane, scris de Alex Moldovan. Recent, a avut şi prima lui expoziţie sub titlul Poveste sau realitate, la Cluj-Napoca.

OZSEF VASS is a graduate of graphics

Most of his illustrations are digital, but each illustration is born first and foremost on a sheet of paper then afterwards is coloured on a computer, in an attempt to create unique characters and illustrations. După 30 de ani de domnie peste un imperiu al modei, Miuccia Prada continuă să fie actuală, cu modele de un chic nonconformist, protestatar și retro. Compania Prada a fost fondată în 1913, atunci când Mario Prada, bunicul Miucciei, a deschis împreună cu fratele său un magazin exclusivist de articole de lux în prestigioasa galerie Vitorio Emanuele II. Tânăra Miuccia Prada era pasionată încă din adolescență de gablonzuri cumpărate din talcioc. t seems that not only the devil wears Prada: Miuccia Prada is the only fashion designer that made it to the Times magazine’s top 100 most influential personalities in the world. Forbes ranks her among the 400 people with the highest revenues and Wall Street Journal includes her in top 30 of most powerful European women. Following a 30-year reign over a fashion empire, Miuccia Prada keeps on being in trend, with nonconformist-chic, revolutionary and retro collections. Prada Company was founded in 1913, when Mario Prada, Miuccia’s grandfather, together with his brother opened an exclusive luxury shop within famous Vitorio Emanuele II gallery. Since early adolescence, young Miuccia Prada was passionate about the trinkets bought from the fairs. She stated in several interviews that she found inspiration in old styles, the vintage air of her collections being the key to her success. At the end of the 70’s, she decided to join the family business and later on she would run the business together with her husband, Patrizio. With him by her side, Miuccia transformed Prada from an ordinary business into one of the most important luxury brands on Earth. Prada is among the few designers that can radically change the style of the collections from one season to another, keeping the same spirit at the same time. Between old and new, tradition and innovation, Miuccia seems always fresh for more than 30 years, creating around 15 collections per year.

omânia este renumită pe plan internațional ca fiind țara lui Dracula. Într-atât de mult a fost exploatat acest mit, încât aproape că nu mai sperie pe nimeni și a devenit un clișeu. Și, dacă toată lumea cunoaște, într-o mai mică sau mai mare măsură, povestea lui Vlad Dracul și a felului în care-și tortura victimele, puțini știu că România ascunde destul de multe alte legende înfricoșătoare, pe care dacă le-ați cunoaște, v-ați gândi de două ori înainte de a vizita locurile de care sunt legate. Înainte de a trece în revistă câteva dintre acestea, pe scurt, vă mai spunem că echivalentul românesc al Halloween-ului este Noaptea de Sfântul Andrei (30 noiembrie) când se spune că lupul devine mai puternic, că în acea noapte vorbesc toate animalele, dar cine le ascultă ce spun, moare și că la miezul nopții de Sf. Andrei se deschid cerurile.

MÂNĂSTIREA CHIAJNA (ÎN APROPIERE DE BUCUREȘTI)

Despre acest lăcaș de cult se spune că n-ar fi fost sfințit niciodată și că a început să se degradeze odată cu epidemia de ciumă, în jurul anului 1800. De el sunt legate crime, dispariţii stranii şi boli groaznice, pe care localnicii le pun pe seama blestemului mănăstirii. Ca să ajungi la clădire trebuie să calci la propriu pe cadavre, pentru că în jurul ei s-a aflat un cimitir ce a fost devastat. Tot localnicii povestesc că de multe ori aud cum bat clopotele la mănăstire, deși acestea nu mai există de mult.

PĂDUREA HOIA-BACIU (CLUJ)

Cei de la BBC au nominalizat acest loc ca fiind „Triunghiul Bermudelor al României” și una dintre cele mai înfricoșătoare păduri din lume. Se numeşte Baciu pentru că legenda vorbește de un cioban cu 200 de oi care a intrat în pădure şi nu a mai ieşit niciodată. De asemenea, mulți dintre cei care au vizitat pădurea au spus că au suferit de stări de greață sau leșin, pete și arsuri pe piele, iar unii au intrat în depresie din cauze pe care nu și le pot explica. În plus, mai mulți martori au relatat fenomene inexplicabile precum lumini de diverse culori și forme, voci de bărbaţi şi femei, vegetaţie locală bizară - copaci cu forme neobişnuite. Toate aceste ciudățenii au fost studiate încă din anul 1936, iar specialiști germani, englezi, francezi sau americani vin aici frecvent pentru observaţii.

omania is internationally famous as being the country of Dracula. This myth has been exploited so much that it is almost no longer frightening to anyone, becoming a cliché. Even though many people are aware, to a smaller or greater extent, of the story of Vlad Dracul and the manner in which he used to torture his victims, few know that Romania has a lot of other scary legends and if you would learn of them, you would think twice before visiting the places to which they are connected. Before briefly listing some of these stories, we would like to mention that the Romanian equivalent of Halloween is the Night of St. Andrew (30th November), when the legends say that the wolf becomes stronger, that all animals can speak on that night, but whoever listens to what they are saying will die and that, at midnight on St. Andrew’s Day, the skies open up.

THE CHIAJNA MONASTERY (NEAR BUCHAREST)

People say that this place of worship has never been blessed and that it has started to degrade once the plague broke out around the year 1800. It is connected to murders, strange disappearances and horrible illnesses, and people think that this is due to the curse placed on the monastery. In order to get to the building, you literally have to walk on corpses, since it is surrounded by a cemetery that was devastated. Locals also say that they can often hear the bells ringing from the monastery, even though they have been removed a long time ago.

THE HOIA-BACIU FOREST (CLUJ)

The people at BBC have named this place the ‘Bermuda Triangle of Romania’ and identified it as one of the scariest forests in the world. It is called Baciu due to a legend that says that a shepherd entered the forest with 200 sheep and never came out of it. Moreover, many of those who have visited the forest said that they have suffered nausea or felt faint, had marks and burns on their skin, and some of them became depressed without knowing the cause. Furthermore, many witnesses have spoken about inexplicable phenomena, such as lights in various colors and shapes, voices of men and women, bizarre local vegetation – trees taking unusual form. All these weird observances have been studied ever since 1936, while German, English, French and American experts frequently visit this place for observation.

Turiștilor li se pare o clădire superbă, chiar dacă e în paragină. Însă, unii constănțeni spun că după inaugurare arăta ca un dric și că ferestrele încă mai arată ca niște morminte. Totodată, la începuturile construcției (1905) aici s-au descoperit osemintele soldaților francezi care au murit de holeră în timpul Războiului Crimeei. Coincidență sau nu, în timpul Primului Război Mondial, aici a fost improvizat un spital, iar zece oameni au fost omorați de schije în timpul unui bombardament din 1916, umplând cu sânge pereții mai multor încăperi. Deci, nu e de mirare că localnicii spun despre casinou că e bântuit de sufletele soldaților și a celor care și-au pus capăt zilelor după ce au pierdut totul la jocurile de noroc de aici. În unele seri, se spune că zgomotul valurilor se amestecă cu cel al soldaților și al ghinioniștilor care-și plâng de milă.

THE CONSTANTA CASINO (CONSTANTA)

Tourists see it as a splendid building, even though it has been neglected for years. However, some locals say that, after its erection, the building resembled a hearse and that the windows still look like graves. At the same time, when construction was started (1905), remains of French soldiers who died of cholera during the Crimean War were found here. Coincidence or not, during World War I, the building was host to an improvised hospital, and ten people were killed by ballistic fragments during a bombing that took place in 1916, filling the walls of many rooms with their blood. Therefore, one cannot wonder why locals think this casino is haunted by the souls of the soldiers and of people taking their lives after losing everything by gambling here. Some nights, it is said that the sound of the waves blends with that of soldiers and unfortunate people ruing their faith.

PĂDUREA TRIVALE (PITEȘTI, 60 KM DE BUCUREȘTI)

Legat de această pădure este o legendă sinistră, spunându-se că ar fi bântuită de fantoma miresei fără cap. Se spune că o fată dintr-o familie bună s-a îndrăgostit de un băiat sărac. Tatăl fetei nu a fost de acord să se căsătorească cu acel băiat, pentru că plănuia să o mărite cu un bătrân bogat. Astfel, cei doi îndrăgostiți au fugit chiar în ziua nunții, când fata era îmbrăcată în mireasă, dar tatăl îi prinde pe cei doi în pădurea Trivale și pe băiat îl omoară în chinuri, iar pe fată o decapitează. De atunci se spune că mireasa fără cap apare noaptea în fața cuplurilor necăsătorite care se plimbă prin această pădure, timp de câteva secunde după care dispare.

TÂMPA (BRAȘOV)

Despre Tâmpa se spune ca era un munte sacru, cu altare pentru sacrificii umane. Nu este deplasat, deoarece aici s-au găsit astfel de vestigii, dar și o fântână cu oase umane, ceea ce demonstrează că aici s-a practicat un cult păgîn, posibil al dacilor care îl slăveau pe Zamolxe. Romanii au numit muntele Tempus, în cinstea zeului timpului, transformându-se încet în Tempea şi apoi în Tâmpa. Cavalerii teutoni au tradus denumirea și de aceea Braşovului i se mai spune și Kronstadt - Cetatea Timpului. De departe Tâmpa arată ca spinarea unui balaur care doarme un somn de mii de ani și nu degeaba există legendele pe care bătrânii braşoveni le povestesc, despre o creatură ciudată care omora copiii conducătorilor urbei. În cele din urmă, orașul a fost salvat de un măcelar care a băgat piatră de var într-o piele de viţel şi a lăsat-o la gura grotei unde dormea balaurul. Monstrul a înghiţit momeala, iar când a băut apă, burta i-a crăpat. O altă legendă brașoveană spune că o călugăriţă ar fi trăit într-o peşteră de pe muntele Tâmpa împreună cu un pui de dragon peste care ar fi dat prin pădure. Aceasta l-a îngrijit și l-a crescut, dar ca răsplată dragonul ar fi mîncat-o.

TAMPA (BRASOV)

The legend says that Tampa was a sacred mountain, with altars for human sacrifices. This is not farfetched, since such remnants were found here along with a fountain having human bones in it, which proves that a pagan cult practiced here, most likely by the Dacians who worshipped Zamolxis. Romans named this mountain Tempus, to honor the god of time, which slowly changed to Tempea and ultimately Tampa. Teutonic knights translated the name and this is why Brasov is also known as Kronstadt – the City of Time. From afar, Tampa looks like the back of a dragon sleeping for thousands of years, leading to stories told by elder inhabitants of Brasov about a strange creature killing the children of the city’s rulers. In the end, the city was saved by a butcher who wrapped limestone into the skin of a calf and left it at the entrance of the cave were the dragon used to sleep. The monster took the bait and, after drinking water, its stomach burst. Another legend of Brasov says that a nun used to live in a cave located on the Tampa mountain with a baby dragon that she had found in the forest. She took care of the creature and helped it to grow, and in exchange the dragon is said to have eaten her.

THE TRIVALE FOREST (PITESTI, ONE HOUR AWAY FROM BUCHAREST)

A sinister legend is tied to this forest, that it might be haunted by the ghost of the headless bride. People say that a girl from a wealthy family fell in love with a poor boy. The father of the girl didn’t agree to their marriage, since he planned to marry his daughter with a rich old man. So, the two lovers ran away on the day of the wedding, when the girl was wearing her wedding dress, but the father catches them in the Trivale forest, brutally killing the boy and beheading his daughter. Ever since, it is said that the headless bride shows herself at night to unmarried couples walking around in the forest, for a couple of seconds, and then she disappears.

Începând din 2001, an în care a debutat în rolul principal din filmul lui Cristi Puiu, Marfa și banii, și până în 2016 la Câini, regizat de Bogdan Mirică și recent premiat la festivalul de la Cannes, Dragoș Bucur este una din figurile constante ale cinema-ului românesc.

Since his debut in 2001 starring in Cristi Puiu’s film, Marfa şi banii (The goods and the money), and until 2016 as the main character of Câini (Dogs), awarded at the Cannes festival and directed by Bogdan Mirică, Dragoş Bucur is a constant figure of Romanian cinematography.

De curând am asistat la masterclassul pe care l-a susținut la festivalul de teatru pentru liceeni din Alexandria, Ideo Ideis, unde a povestit despre viața lui dincolo de ceea ce ajunge pe marile ecrane. M-am hotărât să discut cu el ca să aflu mai multe despre ce face atunci când nu filmează, cum se pregătește pentru rolurile din filme și cum se împacă meseria de actor cu cea puțin mai recentă, de producător. Pe lângă filmul Câini, Dragoș Bucur mai poate fi văzut toamna aceasta și în producția Două Lozuri, o comedie excelentă regizată de Paul Negoescu.

I have recently attended the master class that he gave at the theatre festival for high school students in Alexandria, Ideo Ideis, where he talked about his life beyond what appears on the big screen. I decided to speak with him in order to find out more about what he does when he is not shooting, how he prepares for film roles and how he reconciles acting with his more recent job of being a producer. Besides the film Câini, you can also see Dragoş Bucur this fall in Două Lozuri (Two Lottery Tickets), an excellent comedy directed by Paul Negoescu.

Am urmărit de curând masterclass-ul pe care l-ai susținut la Ideo Ideis și unde ai vorbit despre importanța managementului timpului. Cu excepţia zilelor în care filmezi, că atunci e destul de clar, cum arată o zi din viaţă ta?

Ha, ha! Azi m-am trezit la 6:45 mulţumită programului matinal al lui Kadri, fiul meu, am băut cafeaua cu soția mea, Dana (n.r. Nălbaru), am dat șapte mailuri legate de lansarea Două Lozuri, pentru filmări de interviuri, campanie promovare, discuţii cu sales-ul internaţional şi contestaţie CNC referitoare la refuzul sprijinului de lansare a filmului. Acum stau cu Sofia la masă (luăm micul dejun), răspund la interviu şi pregătesc prânzul pentru cel mic. Kadri doarme, iar Dana a plecat la o

întâlnire cu un producător muzical. La 11:30 plec cu copiii să duc maşina la constatare în service, apoi să lăsăm nişte probe de coprocultură ale lui Kadri şi la ora de pian a Sofiei. Ne vedem cu Dana la un restaurant japonez la prânz, apoi mergem la un consult de rutină al Danei şi înapoi acasă. Pe seară probabil vom ieşi cu bicicletele pe lângă pădure. Asta este o zi relativ normală!

Cum te împaci cu timpul liber dintre proiecte şi cum te recalibrezi pentru o nouă producţie, atunci când vine după o pauză lungă?

Cred că întrebarea corectă este cum mă împac cu pauzele dintre pauze. Îmi place foarte mult ceea ce fac, dar în

With the exception of the days in which you’re shooting, which are pretty clear, how does a day in your life look like? Ha, ha! Today I woke up at 6:45 thanks to the morning schedule of my son, Kadri, I drank my coffee with my wife, Dana (editor’s note: Nalbaru), I sent seven emails related to the launch of Două Lozuri, for filming interviews, promotional campaign, discussions with international sales and the CNC appeal referring to their refusal to support the film’s launch.

Now I’m sitting with Sofia at the table (we’re having breakfast), I am answering your questions and I’m preparing lunch

for the little one. Kadri is sleeping and Dana left for a meeting with a musical producer. At 11:30 I leave with the kids at a car service, then we leave some stool samples from Kadri at the doctor’s and then it’s time for Sofia’s piano lesson. We meet Dana at a Japanese restaurant for lunch, then we go for a routine check for Dana and then we go back home. In the evening, we’ll probably go out with our bikes near the forest. This is a relatively normal day!

How do you deal with spare time between projects and how do you recalibrate for a new production, when it arrives after a long break?

I think the right question would be how I deal with breaks between breaks. I love

ultimii ani actoria nu mai este pe primul plan, ci a devenit o profesie plăcută care susţine activităţile importante din viaţa mea. Astea fiind spuse, metoda principală prin care „mă recalibrez” o reprezintă repetiţiile, etapă absolut obligatorie în producţia unui film.

Ce alte lucruri faci atunci când nu te ocupi cu actoria? Încet, încet, Actoriedefilm.ro devine o casă de producţie serioasă, pe 7 octombrie lansăm în cinema Două Lozuri, al treilea lung metraj produs de noi, o comedie veritabilă semnată de Paul Negoescu, în paralel ne apropiem de finalul producţiei Uruguay, în regia lui Jesus del Cerro şi tot în octombrie începem o nouă sesiune de cursuri de actorie de film. Asta profesional. Pe plan personal mă ocup şi mă bucur împreună cu Dana de cei doi copii ai noştri, Sofia şi Kadri, şi ne facem planuri pentru o călătorie mai lungă.

În cele două filme care se lansează toamna asta, joci roluri diametral opuse. Cum faci să fie veridic şi universul personajului, mai degrabă urban, din „Câini”, dar şi cel provincial al anti-eroului din „Două Lozuri”? Scenariul, partenerii şi regizorul, astea trei elemente din construcţia unui film ridică sau coboară un actor. Din fericire, în ambele producţii am avut parte de scenarii puternice, regizori talentaţi şi actori pe care m-am putut baza!

Te-ai implicat şi ca producător în filmul regizat de Paul Negoescu. Cum e să fii şi producător şi actor în acelaşi timp? E o dublă-poziţie relativ des întâlnită la actorii de Hollywood, dar aproape deloc la noi. Este foarte greu şi nu prea îmi place să mă vaiet, dar este un greu care îmi place, mă face să mă simt activ, mă ţine în priză prin provocările cu care vine. what I do a lot, but for the last years acting is no longer number one on my list, it has become a pleasant profession that supports the important activities in my life. Having said that, the main method through which I ‘recalibrate’ is through repetitions, an absolutely mandatory stage in film production.

On a personal level, I am taking care of and I am enjoying, together with Dana, our two children, Sofia and Kadri and we are making plans for a longer trip.

What else do you do when you’re not busy acting?

In the two films that are being launched this fall, you are playing diametrically opposed roles. How do you add veracity to the character’s rather urban universe from ‘Câini’, but also to the provincial one of the anti-hero from ‘Două Lozuri’?

actor. Fortunately, in both productions, I have received strong scripts, talented directors and actors that I could rely on!

You’ve also gotten involved as a producer in the film directed by Paul Negoescu. How is it like to be a producer and an actor at the same time? It’s a dual position that is relatively frequently encountered with Hollywood actors, but almost never with our actors.

It is very hard and I don’t really like to whine, but it is a difficulty that I like, it makes me feel active, it keeps me going because of its challenges. The final product, the film that the spectator sees at the cinema, on TV or online is only the tip of the iceberg, there are tens, sometimes hundreds of people behind the actors, thousands of hours of postproduction work for the image and the sound and many other days and weeks of creating or strengthening professional relationships without which the film remains in a drawer. On the other hand, I also think that it’s very beneficial for an actor to understand that he’s not a god on the set, but that he’s only a cog in a huge mechanism.

What is the basis of a film’s recipe for success?

I know I already said this, I have to repeat, but the success of a film is strongly connected to its partners, script and director. If one of these three pillars is weak, you can’t be OK as an actor! I usually repeat myself a lot, but I rely a lot on an instinct which I think I honed in time thanks to experience.

Pe de altă parte, mai cred că este foarte benefic unui actor să înţeleagă că nu e zeu pe platou, ci doar o rotiţă dintr-un imens mecanism.

Pe ce se bazează rețeta succesului unui film?

Ştiu că am mai spus, dar succesul unui film ţine foarte mult de parteneri, scenariu şi regizor. Dacă unul dintre ăştia trei stâlpi e slab, nu ai cum să fii ok ca actor! De obicei repet destul de mult, dar mă bazez mult pe un instinct care cred că s-a cizelat în timp mulţumită experienţei.

Din filmele de cinema nu se poate face profit uşor şi asta e o realitate. Ce crezi că e de făcut, ca publicul să se simtă motivat să vină în sala de proiecție?

Habar n-am, dar bănuiesc că diversitatea producţiilor cinematografice împreună cu un plan de susţinere legislativ a filmului românesc ar fi un tandem bun.

De ceva timp eşti prezentatorul unei emisiuni ProTV. Cum influenţează asta până acum percepţia publicului asupra ta şi a carierei tale de actor?

Televiziunea este încă în topul consumatorilor media în România (bănuiesc că şi în afară), şi simt asta de când sunt prezent din nou pe TV. Prezenţa mea pe sticlă nu mă face un actor mai bun sau mai cerut în filme, dar îmi creşte cota în publicitate şi mă face cunoscut publicului larg, iar Visuri la cheie este o emisiune curată, pozitivă şi mă bucur să fac parte din ea.

You can’t make an easy profit from cinema films and that’s reality. What do you think can be done, so that the public feels motivated to come to the screening room?

I have no idea, but I assume that the diversity of the cinematographic productions together with a plan of legislative support for Romanian films would make a good couple.

For some time now, you’ve been the presenter of a show on ProTV. So far, how has this influenced the public’s perception of you and of your career as an actor?

Television is still at the top of media consumer rankings in Romania (I assume it’s the same abroad), and I was able to feel that since I’ve been on TV again. My presence on TV doesn’t make me a better actor, nor does it increase the demand for me to star in films, but it increases my share in publicity and makes me known to the larger public, and Visuri la cheie is a clean, positive show and I am happy to be part of it.

Mihaela Bilic is one of the most appreciated nutritionists in Romania; she has a very clear and straightforward manner of speaking about food-related myths and how we should approach eating, in order to live a healthy and happy life.

ÎNCEPUTURILE

Mihaela decided to become a nutritionist in her third year of college, when she was one step away from quitting the Faculty of Medicine, when her younger brother was diagnosed with an incurable illness and passed away. As she was extremely passionate about food at the time, she thought about how she could mix the medical field with cooking. Upon completing her studies in 1996, her fellow physicians were all focusing on diabetes, while ‘the part about losing weight, eating healthy was not something of interest.’ When nutrition first started in Romania, she had no one to learn from, so she headed abroad to conduct her own research.

Mihaela s-a hotărât să devină nutriționist în anul trei de facultate, atunci când a fost la un pas să renunțe la Facultatea de Medicină, deoarece fratele său mai mic a făcut o boală incurabilă și a murit. Fiind mare pasionată și de mâncare, la momentul respectiv, s-a gândit cum poate îmbina medicina cu gătitul. La terminarea facultății, în 1996, colegii săi medici se ocupau de diabet, iar „partea cu ce însemna slăbit, mâncat sănătos, era ceva care nu își găsea interesul.” La începuturile nutriției în România, nu avea de la cine sa învețe, așa că a plecat în străinătate pentru a se documenta pe cont propriu.

Mihaela recounts about how going to the nutritionist has become fashionable and how society leads us to believe that if we do not see one we are lost and that any issues relating to food should be resolved by a medical authority. ‘The important question to be asked is not what should I eat, but rather why am I eating. When you ask yourself this question, you will realise how rarely you are eating out of hunger and how often you do it for completely different reasons relating to psychological and emotional factors’.

Mihaela povestește cum mersul la nutriționist a devenit o modă și cum societatea ne induce ideea că dacă nu vizităm unul suntem pierduți și că problema cu mâncarea trebuie rezolvată de o autoritate medicală. „Întrebarea serioasă nu e eu ce să mănânc, ci eu de ce mănânc. În momentul în care îți pui această întrebare, o să îți dai seama cât de rar mănânci pentru că ți-e foame și cât de des mănânci din cu totul alte motive care țin de sfera psihologică și emoțională.” Bilic înțelege foarte bine că ne dorim lucrurile interzise, drept urmare consideră că nu trebuie să discutăm despre alimentele care trebuie evitate, ci despre cum le percepem corect. Nu e vorba de evitat anumite alimente, ci de mâncat mai rar și în cantități mai mici.

Bilic understands well enough that we tend to long for forbidden things; consequently, she feels that we shouldn’t talk about food that needs to be avoided, but rather about how to perceive it correctly. It’s not a matter of avoiding certain food products, but rather of eating less often and in smaller quantities.

Grown-ups and kids alike should understand that there is no such thing as forbidden or dangerous food products. ‘When speaking about adults, as well as children, the size of a serving has to match the size of the palms. Place a plate into the hands of your kids, matching the size of their two palms and let them fill it as they wish. It’s only a matter of quantity and diversity.’

Mihaela este autoarea cărții de mai jos, prima din România care a avut o lansare live pe Facebook. Cartea este scrisă pentru a putea fi citită de copii, iar Bilic are mare încredere în deschiderea și lipsa lor de prejudecăți. „Din păcate, ca adulți, ne schimbăm destul de greu obiceiurile și acceptăm greu idei noi, din cauza asta m-am hotărât să scriu direct pentru copii, e adresată lor și poate fi citită de ei, dar asta nu înseamnă că nu poate fi citită și de părinte, ba chiar și de către persoanele care nu au copii, pentru că această sistematizare extrem de simplă și explicații de ABC, de nivel de clasele 1-4, ne e necesară până și nouă, adulților.”

The book is written so it can be understood by children, since Bilic places a great amount of confidence on their openness and lack of preconceptions. ‘Unfortunately, as adults, we find it quite hard to change our habits and accept new ideas, and this is what made me decide to write directly for children; it’s addressed to them and can be read by them, which doesn’t mean that it couldn’t be read by the parents, or even by people without children, since extremely easy, primary school layout and ABC style explanations is needed even for us adults.’

Mihaela spune cum slăbitul este o chestie de asumare şi este nevoie de curaj pentru a recunoaște cât de des și mult mâncăm. Aceasta este cea mai importantă etapă din procesul slăbitului. „Cantitatea și frecvența meselor trebuie să fie adaptate gradului de activitate fizică și nevoilor corpului nostru, și aici nu trebuie făcute calcule complicate. În momentul în care ne uităm în oglindă și vedem kilograme în plus trebuie să recunoaștem că mâncăm mai mult decât are nevoie corpul nostru. Corpul nostru e o mașina termodinamică ce funcționează după această regulă simplă – intrările trebuie să fie egale cu ieșirile ca să avem o siluetă stabilă. Cantitatea de mâncare pe care o consumăm trebuie să fie egală cu caloriile consumate prin mișcare.” Am întrebat-o pe Mihaela cum i-ar plăcea ca oamenii să se raporteze vizavi de mâncare și cum face ea asta. Ea recomandă să implicăm toate simțurile atunci când mâncăm și să avem toată atenția concentrată în farfurie, deoarece doar atunci vom ști că ne-am săturat. „Filosofia de viață în relația cu mâncarea am preluat-o de la francezi și ea spune că trebuie să ne respectăm plăcerile, dar să fim exigenți cu plăcerile noastre. A mânca puțin din mai multe feluri de mâncare e cea mai bună metodă prin care te poți sătura repede.”

Mihaela says that losing weight is a thing of responsibility and people must be courageous enough to admit how often and how much they eat. This is the most important step in the process of losing weight. ‘The quantity and frequency of meals should be adapted to the level of physical activities and needs of our bodies, which doesn’t require complex calculations. When we look into the mirror and we see those extra pounds, we have to admit that we are eating more than our body needs us to. Our body is a thermodynamic machine operating under this simple rule – inputs must be equal to outputs if we wish to have a constant shape. The quantity of food that we eat has to be equal to the calories we burn while in motion.’ We asked Mihaela about how she would like to see people approach food and how does she do it. Her recommendation is to involve all senses into the eating process, with our full focus on the plate, which helps us know when we are full. ‘My philosophy of life towards food is taken from the French and it says that we should respect our desires, while also being strict with them. Eating small amounts from several types of food is the best method for quickly feeling like you’ve had enough.’

His first book, Flash-uri din sens opus (Curtea Veche Publishing), is a collection of stories that made him famous online, and is the one in which he gave an autographed copy to the Romanian Prime Minister (Dacian Ciolos), who is a self-professed fan of Godina. The book sold over 40,000 copies.

A doua sa carte, În misiune cu Marian. Eu nu-s pitic, am ghiozdanul mare! (Curtea Veche Publishing), este una pentru copii, cu rol educativ, din care cei mici pot afla ce înseamnă meseria de polițist și care sunt regulile de circulație.

Așadar, faceți cunoștință cu Marian Godină, cel mai iubit om al legii din România:

De unde pasiunea de a scrie cărți? Și cum se împacă meseria de polițist cu cea de scriitor?

Încă de mic stăteam bine la acea materie de la şcoală care se numea „Compunere”, dar pe atunci nu mă gândeam că voi face o pasiune din scris sau că voi ajunge chiar să scriu vreo carte. Îmi place mult să scriu şi o fac aşa, ca pe un antrenament al minții. Deşi, aparent, cele două profesii nu au vreo legătură, meseria de polițist şi întâmplările de care dau zilnic la serviciu reprezintă un izvor nesecat de inspirație.

După „Flash-uri din sens opus” ai publicat o carte pentru copii, „În misiune cu Marian”. Cum ți-a venit ideea de a scrie o carte pentru copii? E mai greu sau mai ușor să scrii pentru copii?

După apariția „Flash-urilor”, se întâmpla foarte des să primesc poze cu copii stând cu cartea în mână. Erau atraşi de uniforma polițistului de pe copertă, ştiindu-se că cei mici sunt entuziasmați de tot ce ține de poliție. Din păcate, acea carte nu le era adresată, din cauza limbajului, de aceea mi-a venit ideea de a scrie o carte pentru copii. Într-o carte pentru adulți nu trebuie să fii atât de atent la eventualele lucruri greşite care sunt descrise acolo pentru că ei pot distinge între bine şi rău. Să scrii o carte pentru copii e mai greu deoarece nu ai vrea ca cei mici să învețe ceva greşit. Am fost mult mai atent la ce am scris în cartea pentru copii.

Apropo de cărțile pentru copii, cum îi priveai pe polițiști când erai mic? Îi vedeam nişte oameni milităroşi, disciplinați şi foarte serioşi. Îmi doream să devin unul dintre ei.

Într-un timp relativ scurt ai devenit foarte popular (nu doar pe Facebook). Care crezi că este secretul succesului tău și cum crezi că influențează acest lucru imaginea pe care o are poliția în România?

Nu am considerat nicio clipă că sunt atât de talentat încât era normal să am un asemenea succes. Sunt conştient că succesul meu literar se datorează ineditului conferit de faptul că sunt polițist. Cred că acest succes a adus un plus de imagine pentru Poliția Română, deoarece am reuşit să le dau oamenilor nişte flash-uri din sens opus prin care să îi fac să înțeleagă mai bine ce presupune a fi polițist.

Where do you get this passion for writing books? And how do you juggle being a police officer with being a writer?

Since I was a kid, I was good at that school subject matter that was called ‘Composition’, but back then I didn’t think I’d have a passion for writing or that I would even end up writing a book. I love writing and I do it just like a kind of mental training. Although, apparently, the two professions have nothing to do with each other, being a cop and the occurrences that I encounter at work on a daily basis are an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

After ‘Headlight Flashes From the Oncoming Traffic’, you’ve published a children’s book, ‘On a Mission With Marian’. How did you come up with the idea of writing a children’s book? Is it harder or easier to write for children?

After ‘Flashes’ was published, I kept receiving pictures with children holding the book. They were attracted by the uniform of the cop that was on the cover, since it’s a well-known fact that the little ones are enthusiastic about everything that has to do with the police. Unfortunately, that book was not intended for them, because of the language and this is how I got the idea to write a children’s book. In a book for adult readers, you don’t have to be so careful about any possible wrong things that are described there because adults know the difference between right and wrong. Writing a book for children is harder because you don’t want the little ones to learn something that is wrong. I was a lot more careful about what I wrote in this children’s book.

Speaking about children’s books, how did you see police officers when you were a kid? I saw them as military-looking, disciplined and very serious people. I wanted to become one of them.

In a relatively short time, you have become very popular (not just on Facebook). What do you think is the secret of your success and how do you think this influences the image of the police in Romania? I have not thought even for an instant that I was so talented that it was obvious I’d achieve such success. I am aware that my literary success is

Ce te-a surprins cel mai mult atunci când ai intrat in Poliție?

Am fost surprins de diferența mare dintre teorie şi practică, dar cred că asta se întâmplă la orice profesie.

Care sunt lucrurile care-ți plac și cele care nu-ți plac din meseria de polițist?

Cel mai mult îmi place că niciodată nu intervine monotonia şi ar fi imposibil să mă plictisesc de această meserie. Nu îmi plac accidentele rutiere, mai ales cele în care sunt implicați copii. Deşi la serviciu reuşesc să mă concentrez pe ceea ce am eu de făcut, când ajung acasă îmi e imposibil să nu îmi fugă gândul la ce am văzut.

Ce sfaturi ai avea pentru turiștii care vin în România și închiriază mașini? La ce ar trebui să fie atenți, chiar și atunci când sunt doar pietoni?

I-aş sfătui să închirieze maşini numai de la firme autorizate şi serioase. Tehnologia permite acum să poți căuta pe internet firme de Rent a car, să citeşti recenzii şi să poți alege varianta cea mai bună. Turiştii englezi ar trebui să se uite mai întâi spre stânga atunci când încep traversarea străzii.

Ce iubești cel mai mult la România?

Mie îmi plac foarte mult românii. Avem noi prostul obicei de a ne denigra propria țară, dar dacă am sta să ne gândim puțin, am realiza că România e chiar o țară minunată şi mai ales o țară în care te poți simți în siguranță.

Ne poți da câteva detalii despre următorul tău proiect literar? Știm sigur că nu te vei mulțumi doar cu ce ai publicat până acum.

Nici eu nu cred că mă voi opri aici, dar e prea din scurt să mă pronunț în legătură cu ce voi face în viitor. Probabil va urma o nouă carte, dar va mai dura. Să nu uităm că-s liber, dacă eram în puşcărie, poate că eram deja la a zecea carte, parcă aşa e moda pe acolo.

due to the novelty of the fact that I am a cop. I think that this success has promoted the image of the Romanian Police Force, because I managed to give people some headlight flashes from oncoming traffic, so to speak, helping them get a better understanding of what it means to be a cop.

What surprised you the most when you joined the Police Force?

I was surprised by the big difference between theory and practice, but I think that happens in any profession.

What are the things you like and those you don’t like about being a police officer?

What I like above all is that it never gets monotonous and it would be impossible to get bored by this job. I don’t like traffic collisions, especially those involving children. Although at work I manage to focus on what I have to do, when I get home I find it impossible to not think about what I saw.

What advice do you have for the tourists that come to Romania and rent cars? What should they watch out for, even when they are just pedestrians?

I would advise them to rent cars only from authorised and honest companies. Technology now allows people to look up Rent a car companies on the internet, to read reviews and to choose the best option. British tourists should first look to the left when they start crossing the street.

What do you love most about Romania?

I love Romanians. We do have the bad habit of belittling our own country, but if we just stop and think about it for an instant, we would realise that Romania is actually a wonderful country and especially a country in which you can feel safe.

Can you give us a few details about your next literary project? We know for sure that you won’t be content just with what you’ve published so far.

I don’t think that I’ll stop here either, but it’s far too early for me to talk about what I’ll do in the future. There will probably be another book, but it’ll take a while. Let’s not forget I’m free; if I were in prison, maybe I would have written ten books, since that’s all the rage in there, from what I hear.

obin and the Backstabbers. Ai putea jura pe roșu că este numele unei trupe internaționale. Dai un search pe YouTube, play la piesele lor și surpriză: se aude limba română! Deși auzisem de ei de câțiva ani, nu ajunsesem la niciun concert de-al celor șase backstabberi. Știam că vor deschide concertul americanilor de la The Hollywood Vampires și mi-am zis: „În sfârșit! Îi ascult și pe ei live”. Am avut ocazia să-i întâlnesc în avans cu câteva seri, la warm up party-ul pentru Johny Depp și gașca sa de „vampiri”. La finalul petrecerii, le-am propus să facem un interviu pentru revistă și iată-l!

Șase ani de activitate pentru șase Backstabbers, cu tot cu Robin. Ce v-a inspirat în alegerea acestui nume pentru trupă și cum ați descrie această perioadă? Ca orice nume conspirativ, a avut travaliul undeva în munți. Păstrăm o legătură destul de strânsă cu formele de relief ale țării, așa că nu a surprins pe nimeni când Robin a venit cu propunerea. Poate doar pe Vladimir - care cu siguranță nu se aștepta să fie invitat în trupa fratelui mai mare. Știți cum e. Cât despre cei șase ani... Să așteptăm să se facă șapte, să avem voie să vorbim și noi la cină.

Discografia trupei numără două albume din aceeași serie „Bacovia Overdrive”, care poartă numele a două orașe din Rusia: „Stalingrad (vol. 1)” și „Arhanghel’sk (vol. 2)”. De ce ați optat pentru aceste denumiri? Veți continua seria și cu volumul 3? Călătoria se va termina cu volumul 3 Vladivostok - și abia așteptăm să apară harta acestui traseu la sfârșitul revistei printre cele cu destinații, rute de zbor și alte linii peste desenele lumii.

„Arhanghel’sk” se deschide cu trei piese ce poartă numele a trei meserii: „Scafandru”, „Regizor”, „Cosmonaut”. Dacă nu ați fi făcut muzică, cine ar fi fost scafandrul, cine regizorul și cine cosmonautul din trupă? Ceilalți trei membri ai trupei ce meserii și-ar fi ales?

Aici e destul de simplu - capitolul arte și meserii a fost străbătut - și ne-am împărțit specializările - au mai apărut seismologia, radiogoniometria, vexilologia, sericicultura etc - cu scuzele de rigoare pentru traducători.

obin and the Backstabbers. You could swear that it’s the name of an international band. You look them up on YouTube, play one of their tracks and, surprise, surprise: it’s in Romanian! Although I had already heard about them a few years ago, I didn’t manage to go to any of their concerts. When I saw they were to be the opening act for American band, The Hollywood Vampires, I said to myself: ‘Finally! I can listen to them live.’ I had the opportunity to meet them a few nights before that, at the warm up party for Johnny Depp and his gang of ‘vampires’. At the end of the party, I suggested that we do an interview for the magazine and here it is!

Six years of work for the six Backstabbers, including Robin. What inspired you to choose this name for the band and how would you describe this period?

Like any conspiratorial name, it had its inception somewhere in the mountains. We keep a pretty close relationship with the country’s landscape, so it wasn’t surprising to anybody when Robin came up with the suggestion. Maybe only to Vladimir – who definitely didn’t expect to be invited into his big brother’s band. You know how it is. As for the six years...

Let’s wait until we get seven years, so we’re allowed to talk at dinnertime.

The band’s discography included two albums from the same series ‘Bacovia Overdrive’ and bears the names of two cities in Russia: ‘Stalingrad (vol. 1)’ and ‘Arhanghel’sk (vol. 2)’. Why did you choose these names? Will you continue the series with a 3rd volume?

The journey will end with volume 3 Vladivostok – and we can hardly wait until the map of this itinerary appears at the end of the magazine – among the ones with destinations, flight routes and other lines over the drawings of the world.

‘Arhanghel’sk’ opens with three tracks that bear the name of three professions: ‘Scafandru’ (Diver), ‘Regizor’ (Director), ‘Cosmonaut’. If you hadn’t been musicians, who would have been the diver, who would have been the director and who would have been the cosmonaut in the band? What professions would the other three members of the band have chosen?

That’s pretty easy – we’ve gone over the arts and crafts chapter – and we’ve assigned our specialisations – there’s also been seismology, radiogoniometry, vexillology, sericulture, etc. – also, I’d like to apologize to the translators.

‘Water air fire earth WiFi’ is a track included on volume 2. What do you think will be the sixth element that humanity will need in 50 years?

Film. It’s still a secret, but we’ll need film.

You’ve opened for bands with a lot of weight on the international scene: Whitest Boy Alive, Obits, British Sea Power, Reptile Youth and, most recently, The Hollywood Vampires. Tell us what this experience was like and if you had the opportunity to meet up with these ‘Hollywood Vampires’.

Ați cântat în deschiderea unor trupe cu mare greutate la nivel internațional: Whitest Boy Alive, Obits, British Sea Power, Reptile Youth și cel mai recent, The Hollywood Vampires. Povestiți-ne cum a decurs experiența și dacă ați avut ocazia să vă vedeți cu „vampirii hollywoodieni”.

Well... we’ve known each other for a few hundreds of years and we’re happy when we have reunions where we don’t have to hide. We combine business with pleasure as much as we can. Let’s see, what else... It’s been raining a lot.

Eh... ne știm de câteva sute de ani și ne bucurăm când avem reuniuni în care nu trebuie să ne ascundem. Îmbinăm plăcutul cu utilul pe cât posibil. În rest... A cam plouat.

Has flying around inspired you so much so that you composed a song, up there, in the clouds? And if so, which one?

Zborul cu avionul v-a inspirat într-atât de mult încât să compuneți o piesă, sus, în nori? Dacă da, care? Păi am început timid cu avioane de hârtie, apoi „Harta lumii desenată din memorie” și tot așa - după cum vezi, călătoria continuă. Chiar am cântat în avion… atât cât s-a putut.

Ce albume conține playlist-ul tău de zbor, Robin?

Playlistul se schimbă - zborul rămâne.

We were a little shy at the beginning, so we started with paper airplanes, then we had ‘Harta lumii desenată din memorie’ (The map of the world drawn from memory) and so on and so forth – as you can see, the journey continues. We actually sing on the plane… when we may.

Which albums contain your flight playlist, Robin?

The playlist changes – the flight remains. For instance, now, I am listening to two albums, mostly: Kendrick Lamar – ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ and from the Red Hot Chili Peppers - ‘The Getaway’.

Which track from your own repertoire do you recommend to our passengers for take-off? How about for landing?

Am fost împreună de două ori la Londra - a fost foarte plăcut, deși acum îmi dau seama că n-am fost în vacanță de fapt, ci la concerte, dar la noi nu se

pune. Am merge cu bucurie oriunde suntem chemați: Italia, Islanda, Estonia.

Munții Călimani reprezintă o sursă de inspirație pentru trupa voastră. În ce alte locuri din România vă simțiți stimulată creativitatea?

În jurul lacurilor. Baraje și păduri, pârtii de ski sau delta și plaja. Din fericire, călătorim mult și se întâmplă să avem parte de multe cotloane plăcute. Ne-am strâns de vreo câteva ori în ceea ce numim Bandcamp - unde ne lipim de instrumente, într-o cabană, câte o săptămână și mereu ne întoarcem bucuroși de ce ne-au transmis lacurile.

Ce planuri aveți pentru restul anului 2016?

Mai avem o serie de concerte și desigur, să zumzăim ce culegem spre Vladivostok. Se aude un murmur plăcut, plăcut.

What are your favorite European holiday destinations?

We’ve been in London together twice – it was very enjoyable, although I now realise that we weren’t really on vacation, we were performing, so that doesn’t count for us. We’ll gladly go anywhere we’re asked to go: Italy, Iceland, and Estonia.

The Călimani Mountains represent a source of inspiration for your band. What other places in Romania stimulate your creativity?

Around lakes. Dams and forests, ski slopes or the delta and the beach. Fortunately, we travel a lot and so we spot many beautiful places. We’ve been gathering in what we call Bandcamp – where we make one with our instruments, in a cabin, for a week and we always come back happy with what the lakes have given us.

What are your plans for the rest of 2016?

We still have a series of concerts and of course, we need to fine-tune Vladivostok. There’s a pleasant murmur in the air.

Există două feluri în care viaţa poate fi trăită: prima este a gândi că nimic nu este o minune, a doua este a gândi că totul este o minune” spunea Einstein. Şi la fel pare să creadă şi Veronica Soare, care a ales să facă din micro filantropie o îndeletnicire zilnică. Dacă vă îndreptaţi vreodată spre unul dintre evenimentele ei o să o găsiţi, plină de zâmbete şi idei, povestind cu o pasiune molipsitoare despre cazurile cu care rezonează. Mi-a fost sursă de inspiraţie anul acesta când am decis să donez ziua mea de naştere, în cadrul unui eveniment caritabil, către Inima Copiilor. La doar câteva luni distanţă, tot ei au devenit beneficiarii unei campanii de strângere de fonduri mai puţin obişnuite: #MinunipeCamino, un drum de 910 km parcurs pe jos, în care puteai cumpăra simbolic paşi.

I believe it is about how you express in words the good deed that you have performed. I do not like to generalise here, of course, but it is important

Prima nu are niciun efect, a doua poate inspira. minuni.ro a apărut pentru că mi-am dorit să pun faptele mele bune sub o umbrelă, care vrea să fie tot mai mare, să încapă sub ea tot mai mulţi oameni care vor să ajute. De doi ani, de când fac asta susţinut, am primit de multe ori bucuria din: „mulţumesc pentru că mi-ai arătat că pot face şi eu asta”, „pentru că m-ai inspirat”, „nu ştiam că mă pot implica astfel” ...

Schimbi, zi de zi, destine prin ceea ce faci. Cum te transformă asta?

Mulţumesc, n-aş vrea să mă alint cu vorbe mari. Pur şi simplu fac partea mea, ca pasărea colibri din poveste. Odată ce intri în caruselul ăsta înţelegi că te ajuţi şi pe tine. Te salvezi de tristeţe, de răul lumii, de micimea unor întâmplări pe care le trăim în viaţa cotidiană.

Cum te-a schimbat Camino? Ce ţi-ar fi plăcut să ştii înainte să pleci la drum?

Drumul ăsta e cea mai frumoasă poveste a mea. 4 ani şi jumătate, de când am decis că o să-l străbat cândva, am construit tot felul de bariere

You change people’s destinies on a daily basis. How does this transform you?

Thank you, I would not want to make too much of it. I just do my share, like the humming bird in the story. Once you climb on this merry-go-round, you will understand that you are actually helping yourself. You are saving yourself from sadness, the evil in the world, the pettiness of things we experience every day.

How did Camino change you? What would you have liked to know before embarking upon that journey? This journey is the best story I have. Four years ago, when I decided I would go on

inutile, pornind de la cea că nu aş putea face pe jos atâţia kilometri. Totul până când m-am văzut, cu rucsacul în spate, înaintând spre Santiago. Privind acum în urmă la cei 910 km i-aş străbate din nou. Traseul ăsta e cel mai puţin despre mersul pe jos, deşi aşa pare. Te schimbă, te învaţă despre oameni şi lume în lecţii concentrate. E ca o esenţă de viaţă, toate se petrec repede şi, pentru că nu eşti distras de cotidian, fiecare zi fiind menită să mergi înainte, ai timp să laşi lecţiile să se aşeze. Ce mi-ar fi plăcut să ştiu înainte să plec? Răspunsul e teribil de prozaic: aş fi vrut să ştiu despre o cremă minune pe care am primit-o, undeva pe drum, de la un neamţ simpatic şi care a ajutat teribil picioarelor mele.

până am observat că, în fapt, beţele erau cârje. Când am stat de vorbă, ceva mai târziu, am aflat că pornise de unde pornisem şi eu, făcuse deja sute de km. Daniel, un băiat din Anglia, e marea lecţie a drumului meu, cunoscându-l pe el ştiu că niciodată nu voi mai putea spune „nu pot”. Sau prima mea întâlnire cu Yuka din Japonia care, în ziua în care am cunoscut-o, mi-a spus, printre altele, o poezie pe care am transformat-o într-o lecţie de pus la inimă. Dacă ţii în mâini o scoică pe care nu o poţi deschide ca să vezi perla dinăuntru, dacă tu crezi că înăuntru e o perlă, dacă tu crezi asta, atunci acea perlă există.

Care este cea mai dragă amintire din călătorie?

E foarte greu să înţelegi că puterile tale sunt, în sensul ăsta, limitate. Mi-a luat multă vreme să nu mă mai simt vinovată pentru tot ce nu pot să fac şi să mă bucur de ceea ce pot. E o lecţie care vine cu timpul. Dar dacă fiecare dintre noi ar face, în universul lui, picul acela pe care negreşit îl poate face – dăruind timp, bani sau energie – am putea spera la cea mai frumoasă dintre lumile posibile, cum spunea Optimistul lui Voltaire.

Dificil de spus, toată călătoria e un carusel de oameni, emoţii şi întâmplări. Prima imagine care îmi vine în minte este ziua când am ajuns la Cruz de Ferro, un punct foarte important pentru pelerini, în care îţi laşi simbolic greutăţile în urmă cu o piatră pe care ai adus-o de-acasă. Spre Cruz urca, în aceeaşi zi, un băiat ajutat de – credeam eu – beţe. Înainta greu, mi-a luat puţin

făcut. Cum faci să te detaşezi şi să realizezi că, în esenţă, un singur om nu le poate face pe toate?

that road, I started creating all kinds of useless barriers, starting with the idea that I could never walk so many kilometres. That lasted until I had a backpack on and I was taking the first steps to Santiago. Looking back now on those 910 km, I can say that I would go again on that road anytime. This journey is not only about walking, though it might seem it is at first. It changes you, teaches you about people and the world in intensive lessons. It is like the essence of life, everything unravels very fast and because you have to keep on walking further every day and there is no ordinary routine present, you have time to let all the lessons sink in. What would I have liked to know before? The answer is quite unpoetic: I wished I knew about a wonder lotion that helped my feet a lot, which a nice guy from Germany gave me during the journey, at some point.

What is your dearest memory from the journey?

It is hard to say, the whole journey is a whirlwind of people, feelings and events. The first image that springs to mind is the day I arrived in Cruz de Ferro, a landmark for the travellers, where you symbolically get rid of all the hardships in your life while leaving there a stone you brought from home. On the same day, a boy was walking to Cruz helped by some sticks, or so I thought. He was walking with difficulty and it took me a while until I noticed that the sticks were actually crutches. When we talked a bit later, I found out he had started the same place I did and already walked a couple hundred kilometres. Daniel, a boy from the UK, is the most important lesson of my journey, because knowing him now, I am sure I will never be able to say ‘I cannot do this’. I can add my first meeting with Yuka from Japan who, the day I met her, told me a poem, which I turned into a lesson I will carry in my heart. If you hold a seashell in the palm of your hand that you won’t open to let you see if there is a pearl inside, just believe that there is a pearl inside, if you truly believe this, then the pearl will exist.

In this world of good deeds, there is always something to be done. What do you do to disconnect a bit and realise that one person alone cannot do everything? It is very challenging to understand that your powers are limited. It took me a lot of time not to feel guilty for all that I could not do and just enjoy what I could do. But if each and every one of us would do that small good deed – giving away their time, money or energy – we could hope for the best of all possible worlds, as Voltaire’s Candide was saying.

„În ultimii ani Aeroportul Internațional Avram Iancu Cluj a înregistrat creșteri semnificative ale traficului de pasageri, devenind astfel cel mai important aeroport regional al României. Proiectele de investiții în infrastructura aeroportuară implementate în perioada 20072014, au avut rolul de a susține creșterea consistentă a traficului de pasageri, până la un nivel de aproape 2 milioane de pasageri estimați a fi înregistrați în anul 2016.

‘In recent years Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport recorded significant increase in passenger traffic, making it the most important regional airport in Romania. Investment projects in the airport infrastructure implemented during 2007-2014 were designed to sustain consistent growth in passenger traffic, up to a level of almost 2 million passengers estimated for 2016. The evolution of Cluj International Airport in the last two decades has brought many benefits to the region and airport management plans do not stop there. In 2017, passengers will have access to a network of routes of over 40 regular destinations, which will strengthen the position of the airport as one of the fastest growing airports in Europe with traffic of up to 5 million passengers.’

Evoluția Aeroportului Internațional Cluj din ultimele două decenii a adus numeroase beneficii regiunii, iar planurile managementului aeroportuar nu se opresc aici. În anul 2017, pasagerii vor avea acces la o rețea de rute cu peste 40 de destinații regulate, fapt care va consolida poziția aeroportului clujean, drept unul dintre cele mai dinamice aeroporturi cu un trafic de până la 5 milioane de pasageri, din Europa.”

EVOLUȚIA TRAFICULUI DE PASAGERI 1996 - 2016 | PASSENGER TRAFFIC TRENDS 1996 - 2016 În perioada 1996 - 2016, Aeroportul Internațional „Avram Iancu” Cluj a cunoscut o dezvoltare exponențială a traficului de pasageri pornind de la 32.000 de pasageri în anul 1996 și ajungând la aproape 2.000.000 de pasageri în anul 2016. Ca urmare a liberalizării pieței de transport aerian din România în anul 2007, Aeroportul Internațional Cluj, susținut de Consiliul Județean Cluj, a demarat importante proiecte de modernizare și dezvoltare a infrastructurii aeroportuare care alături de strategii de marketing adecvate i-au permis acestuia sa facă față provocărilor și schimbărilor din industria aviatică. Odată cu modernizarea infrastructurii aeroportuare prin inaugurarea noilor terminale de pasageri în anii 2008 - 2009, respectiv a noii piste de decolare-aterizare și a suprafețelor de mișcare aferente în anii 2013 - 2014, au fost create premisele necesare pentru atragerea de noi companii aeriene și dezvoltarea rețelei de rute a aeroportului.

Between 1996 - 2016, Cluj ‘Avram Iancu’ International Airport has experienced exponential growth in passenger traffic from 32,000 passengers in 1996 and reaching almost 2,000,000 passengers in 2016. Following the liberalization of the air transport market in Romania in 2007, San Francisco International Airport, supported by Cluj County Council has started important projects of modernization and development of airport infrastructure which along with appropriate marketing strategies have allowed the airport to cope with challenges and changes in the aviation industry. With the modernization of airport infrastructure by opening new passenger terminals in 2008 - 2009, the new runway, taxiway and apron in 2013 - 2014, prerequisites for attracting new airlines were created and for the development of the airport route network.
