2016 a fost cel mai important an al Blue Air din cei 12 ani de istorie, compania aeriană având o dezvoltare explozivă. În primul rând, Blue Air a investit semnificativ în flotă, în momentul de față operând cu un total de 24 de aeronave. Având în vedere că în anul 2015 a operat cu 15 aeronave, putem spune că a fost o creștere extrem de importantă. În al doilea rând, în 2016 am asistat la lansarea a 30 de rute noi, cea mai recentă fiind legătura între Cluj-Napoca și Birmingham, începând cu 16 decembrie.

Strategia noastră de a diversifica operațiunile din Europa se materializează prin deschiderea unei noi baze pe aeroportul Liverpool, începând cu sezonul de vară 2017. Blue Air went through the greatest year in its 12 years of history in 2016, as the airline expanded massively in every single aspect. Firstly, Blue Air invested significantly in its aircraft fleet in 2016, as it now operates with a total of 24 units, representing a huge increase considering that in 2015 it was operating with 15 aircraft. Secondly, 2016 witnessed the launch of 30 new routes, with the latest addition being the international service between Cluj-Napoca and Birmingham added on 16 December.

We are going to continue our expansion in 2017. In accordance with the airline’s strategy to diversify its operations around Europe, Blue Air will open a new base at Liverpool Airport with the beginning of Summer 2017 season. As a result of deploying a single aircraft at the airport, the carrier will connect Liverpool to Rome Fiumicino, Milan Bergamo, Hamburg and Alicante.

EBAN (European Business Angels Network) President, Candace Johnson, came this year to Romania in order to share once more her rich experience as an investor. A premiere is also Business Angels Romania being part of the ESIL European Project w w w. e u rop e ane si lpi l ot . e u (Early Stage Investing Launchpad Pilot) that has the overall objective of developing and boosting the activities for Business Angels through an international capacity building program. rimii fulgi de zăpadă au căzut de mult, vacanţa se apropie, iar cum deplasarea cu avionul nu mai este o problemă – mai ales pentru pasagerii Blue Air – planificarea timpului liber în acest sezon rămâne doar o chestiune de gust şi de... buget. Dacă în ceea ce priveşte bugetul vă lăsăm pe voi să faceţi calculele, privind destinaţiile am avea câteva recomandări, ce sperăm să vă îndrepte atenţia și pașii către vârfurile munţilor noștri. Închideţi ochii şi repetați: „peisaje de vis, relaxare, aer curat, sport, distracție!” Tineţi deci cont de Munţii Carpaţi atunci când alegeți destinația vacanței ce bate la ușă. Zoom pe două regiuni care, deși cunoscute, ascund mereu noi surprize: Poiana Braşov şi Valea Prahovei - două direcţii predilecte către care se îndreaptă deja mulți turişti avizaţi, români şi din străinătate, chiar și cei pretenţioşi.

POIANA BRAŞOV Dacă muntele înseamnă pentru tine în primul rând schi şi snowboard, Poiana Braşov este una dintre destinaţiile recomandate. Stațiunea este apreciată inclusiv de turiștii străini, infrastructura modernă destinată practicării sporturilor de iarnă și calitatea serviciilor se îmbină armonios cu peisajele idilice și feerice. Beneficiind de o localizare de invidiat (8 km de oraşul Braşov şi 10 km de oraşul Râşnov), la o altitudine de 1.020 m, Poiana Braşov este înconjurată de patru masive montane: Postăvaru (1.799 m), Piatra Craiului (2.238 m), Bucegi (2.505 m) şi Piatra Mare. Situată pe un domeniu de 80 de hectare şi însumând o lungime schiabilă de 24 km, Poiana Braşov oferă opțiuni de schiat atât pentru copii, cât şi pentru adulţi. VALEA PRAHOVEI A little south of Poiana Brasov, the mountain roads lead us through Prahova Valley, named after the river crossing adventurously the Southern Carpathians. protejată: Parcul Brâncoveanu, cu un adevărat patrimoniu botanic (paltin argintiu şi stejar roşu american). La încă 20 km spre nord, ne aşteaptă Sinaia. Vă lăsăm să descoperiţi de ce această staţiune a fost numită „Perla Carpaţilor”. Castelul Peleş, construit în Sinaia între anii 1873-1914 la iniţiativa regelui Carol I, este o capodoperă arhitecturală renumită pe plan internaţional. Castelul se remarcă prin influenţe neogermane. Castelul Peleş şi Castelul Pelişor (reşedinţa de vară a Casei Regale a României) sunt repere ale arhitecturii din perioada regalității. Mult mai redusă ca dimensiuni, dar fără să îi știrbească farmecul, este stațiunea Bușteni. Nu ocoliți această stațiune, de aici puteți pleca în drumeții sau spre pârtia de schi Kalinderu. În drum spre Bușteni, nu puteți rata Crucea Caraiman, un impresionant monument, care luminează împrejurimile de la altitudinea de 2.291 m. Şi dacă doriţi să vedeţi toate acestea de sus, după ce parcurgeţi un traseu fermecător cu telecabina, Platoul Bucegilor ne dezvăluie impresionantele sale formațiuni geologice, pe care

românii le-au botezat după înfăţişarea lor. Babele – formaţiuni stâncoase aflate în apropierea Vf. Baba Mare par siluete pentru care timpul s-a oprit în loc, iar Sfinxul, cu înfăţişare antropomorfă, îşi are originea numelui în asemănarea cu omologul egiptean. Dacă hotarâţi să vă continuaţi drumul, vă recomandăm staţiunea Azuga pentru practicarea sporturilor de iarnă, iar în perioada sezonului cald nu ratați Rezervaţia Naturală Poiana cu Narcise. Dar până cand narcisele vor înflori din nou, haideţi să profităm de acest sezon minunat, de zăpadă, de sărbători, de sport şi de natură. Poiana Braşov şi Valea Prahovei vă aşteaptă pentru a vă oferi clipe de neuitat!

In the northern proximity of Campina lies the Breaza resort, which has been known as a health resort since 1926. The Peles Castle, built in Sinaia between 1873-1914 at the initiative of King Carol I, is an internationally-renowned masterpiece. The castle displays neo-German influences. The Peles Castle and the Pelisor Castle (the summer residence of the Romanian Royal House) are the main architectural models of the Romanian royal era. Although much smaller, Busteni is very charming. From here you can go hiking or to the Kalinderu ski slope. On your way to Busteni, you cannot miss the Caraiman Cross, an impressive metal structure, illuminating the surroundings from a dominant altitude of 2,291 m.

And if you’d like to see all these surroundings from way up, after a charming cable car journey, the Bucegi Plateau will unveil the impressive geological formations that Romanians have named after their appearance. Babele – which are rock formations in the vicinity of the Baba Mare peak, appear to be silhouettes for which time stood still, while the Sphinx, a geological formation with an anthropomorphic appearance, is named after its resemblance to its Egyptian counterpart.

ând vorbim despre localuri bucureștene, putem afirma cu ușurință că acestea produc un număr de cel puțin 80 de evenimente pe zi în timpul săptămânii și peste 300 de evenimente pe zi în weekend. Poate sună puțin exagerat, însă acest fapt reprezintă o adevărată bucurie pentru cei pasionați de zona divertismentului și, în general, pentru oricine dorește un pic de răsfăț atunci când renunță la confortul propriului cămin. Şi pentru că nu vrem ca aceste cifre să stea în calea distracției, am pornit la drum de sărbătoare și vă prezentăm în continuare câteva localuri de vizitat în sezonul de iarnă. Vorbim despre locuri presărate cu bucate special alese și evenimente culese pentru a ne încânta în această lună, supranumită „Ningău” în tradiția populară.

It may sound somewhat like an exaggeration, but this fact is a true joy for people that are passionate about entertainment and, in general, for anyone who wants to indulge a bit, when they give up the comfort of their own home. And since we don’t want these figures to stand in the way of having fun, we hit the road during the holidays and we present to you below a few locations that are worth taking into account, during the winter season. We are talking about places interspersed with specially chosen cuisine and events collected in order to charm us this month, dubbed ‘Ningau’ [‘Snowy’] in the folk tradition.

The Mix - Urban Food Concept is based on the concept of ‘fine dining’, that is, a mix of urban food (comfortable and gourmet at the same time) and a ‘friendly’ atmosphere, created by a diverse setting: minimalist design, arty and natural elements. ‘Sunday evening indulgence’, say Denis Radu and Monica Munteanu, the location’s representatives. For the month of December, we wanted to find out the specialties that we can indulge in and, implicitly, what we

can eat at the New Year’s Eve party: The Duck Father (the favorite dish, made from duck breast, cooked in sous-vide, marinated in oranges with rosemary, carrot, parsnip colored as beet and marinated in honey, truffles and cinnamon, mashed carrots with anise and parsnip with vanilla, port sauce with pomegranate and thyme); Queen Beef (beef sirloin, cooked in sous-vide, marinated in garlic and rosemary, polenta with truffles, small mushrooms, onions, asparagus and bacon powder).

Calea Plevnei 61, București 61 Plevnei Road, Bucharest Silver Church, unul dintre cele mai vizitate cluburi de weekend din capitală, și-a adăugat nu de mult timp și programul de gastropub. Silver Church arată grandios, dar și intim. Puteţi comanda mâncare până la ora 23.00, iar în fiecare weekend, după ora 22.00, se dezlănțuie petrecerea cu dans și muzica specifică clubului. Silver Church, one of the most frequented weekend clubs in the capital, has recently added a gastropub program. Silver Church looks both grandiose and intimate. The kitchen’s work-hours end at 11 PM. Each weekend, after 10 PM, the party starts, with dancing and music that is specific to the club. For the entire month of December, the place offers a varied menu of ‘house’ specialties and not only that: homemade Tagliatelle (with chicken breast, pesto, garlic, parmesan, sour cream for cooking), B.L.T. (crispy bacon galore, iceberg salad, tomatoes, sesame rolls, barbeque sauce, tartar sauce), Whisky Ribs (delicious pork ribs marinated in whisky and beer sauce and then grilled, basted in the establishment’s barbeque sauce and arranged in a large serving weighing 850 grams, alongside a satiating side salad or aromatized potato wedges).

Dakota, born out of passion for the most succulent steaks that you will ever taste, is inspired by the classic steakhouse, on which Isoletta puts its mark of quality, in order to achieve a novel concept. For the holiday meal, the restaurant recommends the delicious Pork ribs in BBQ sauce, served with onion rings and another dish that is hailed by connaisseurs, namely Roast beef with asparagus and cheese sauce with jalapenos.

ă fii tânăr actor în România este un job extrem de diferit de toate celelalte la care te poți gândi. De ce spun asta? Pentru că majoritatea actorilor, pentru a se întreține, dau zeci de probe, caută colaborări în sistemul teatral de stat și cel privat, sau sunt nevoiți să aibă job-uri part-time. Am discutat cu cinci dintre cei mai talentați și promițători tineri actori din România, ca să înțelegem de la ei cât mai bine cu ce se ocupă în momentul de față și care sunt încercările cu care se confruntă în profesia lor.

eing a young actor in Romania is a job extremely different from all the others you may think about. Why do I say that? Because most actors give tens of auditions monthly, meanwhile struggling to reconcile collaborations in the state theatre system and the independent one or other part-time jobs, to help support themselves. I had a talk with five of the most talented and promising young actors in Romania, in order to better understand from them what they do now and what challenges they face in their profession.

Pentru început vom vorbi cu actrița FLORINA GLEZNA, pe care am cunoscut-o în 2007, când am urmărit-o în spectacolul „Cui i-e frică de Virginia Woolf ”, în regia Marianei Cămărășan, la Studioul Casandra al tinerilor absolvenți de teatru. Cu o forță aparte și extrem de credibilă pe scenă, Florina se anunța una dintre cele mai importante prezențe ale generației ei. Zece ani mai târziu, reușește să se impună în proiecte de calitate, făcându-i pe cei care ajung la spectacolele în care joacă să o aprecieze tot mai mult.

First and foremost, we shall talk to actress FLORINA GLEZNA, whom I met in 2007 when I saw ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf ’, directed by Mariana Camarasan at the young theatre graduates’ Casandra Studio. Displaying a unique force and being highly credible on stage, Florina was set to become one of the most important figures of her generation. Ten years later, she manages to shine in quality projects and is appreciated by those who come to see her shows.

Florina, eu te știu de pe vremea când erai senzația generației tale de absolvenți de actorie, câștigai premiul de interpretare la Studioul Casandra și mulți îți prevedeau un viitor solid în industrie. Cum a fost, de fapt, începutul carierei tale ca actriță?

Florina, I’ve known you ever since you were your acting graduate generation’s thrill, you were winning the acting prize at the Casandra Studio and many expected you to build a solid future in the industry. How was the beginning of your career as an actress?

Treptat, cu pauze și cu perioade foarte pline. Sigur că îți imaginezi tot felul de lucuri minunate după ce termini facultatea, că mulţi regizori și actori te vor dori în proiectele lor, încât nu o să mai poți face față, însă realitatea este cu totul alta, dar nu o spun cu tristețe, dimpotrivă, pentru că îmi dau seama că tot acest parcurs cu toate nemulțumirile, așteptările, îndoielile face parte din procesul de maturizare al meu ca om și ca artist.

Eu am devenit fanul tău după ce te-am văzut în Marta din „Cui i-e frică de Viginia Woolf”, pentru care ai și fost nominalizată la premiile Uniter. Spectacolul se joacă în continuare de aproape 10 ani. Cum s-a schimbat în timp?

„Cui i-e frică de Virginia Woolf?” este bijuteria noastră, a întregii echipe. Ce s-a întâmplat cu acest spectacol este unic, suntem ca o familie, a devenit parte din noi, ne-a rafinat gusturile legate de proiectele care au urmat. Suntem foarte încântați atunci când aflăm că în sală sunt oameni care l-au vazut de trei, patru ori și vin să-l revadă, ce poţi să-ți dorești mai mult, este cea mai mare bucurie.

Ce părere ai despre sistemul de teatru instituționalizat și care e relația ta cu el?

Am avut și am colaborări cu teatrele de stat, însă funcționând destul de mult în teatrul independent nu m-a afectat în niciun fel, nu este nici dușmanul meu, nici prietenul meu, este un loc în care mă duc dacă îmi place ce mi se oferă, adică textul și regizorul.

Mai faci și altceva pe lângă actorie?

Nu, nu mai fac, îmi place mult să joc și să descopăr texte noi. Deocamdată nu știu dacă mai vreau să fac și altceva.

Care e proiectul de care ești cea mai mândră și de ce? Sunt multe de care sunt încântată de cum au ieșit, sunt foarte atașată de spectacolele mele. Însă unul dintre cele favorite este „Cinci ore cu Mario”, în regia Marianei Cămărășan. Este un one-woman show care te face să râzi și să plângi, care are simplitatea și filozofia vieții, un text pe care l-am dramatizat împreună cu Mariana Cămărășan și la care am lucrat aproape un an. Se joacă la Unteatru, locul în care mă simt ca acasă, locul care are spectacole de valoare și oameni tineri talentați, cu energie și poftă de lucru.

Ce le-ai spune tinerilor care visează să devină actori, acum, la aproape zece ani de când ai absolvit? Să fie răbdători!

Care e cea mai mare bucurie pe care ți-o dă meseria de actriță?

Transparența. E o meserie în care nu poți să minți, care face apel întotdeauna la adevăr, la autentic, așa că ce poate fi mai frumos?

Dana, tu ai câştigat anul trecut Marele Premiu la Gala Hop a tânărului actor. Cum te-a ajutat chestia asta?

I became a fan after I saw you play Martha in ‘Who’s afraid of Viginia Woolf’, a role you were nominated for at the Uniter awards. Nearly 10 years later the show is still playing. How has it changed over time?

În cazul meu am simţit că se accentuează încrederea în mine şi încrederea celorlalţi în mine. Oricum ele merg mână-n mână. Nu s-a concretizat nimic după Gala Hop în afară de un rolişor în filmul lui Radu Jude (Inimi cicatrizate), dar de fiecare dată când mă duceam la un casting simţeam că stârnesc curiozitate datorită acestui premiu, voiau să vadă care e treaba cu fata din faţa lor. Cred că mi se dădea mai multă atenţie decât altora. Am zis dădea pentru că toate aceste premii se uită şi se uită destul de rapid.

Cum ai descrie traseul tău ca tânără actriţă? Ţi-a fost greu, ţi-a fost uşor?

A fost aşa cum a trebuit să fie. Am intrat la UNATC la 22 de ani şi am terminat când aveam 25, am picat admiterea la master aşa că am făcut tot ce mi-a stat în putinţă să nu abandonez terenul de joacă: intram în toate examenele din facultate unde era nevoie de mine, participam la toate audiţiile şi concursurile de care auzeam şi simţeam că mă duc înainte cu o încredere oarbă că asta e ceea ce trebuie să fac. Nu ştiu dacă a fost uşor sau greu, dar erau multe momente în care era incomod. În ianuarie 2015, la propunerea Irinei Crăiţă-Mândră, am făcut un one-woman show după două texte de Alina Nelega. Cu el am câştigat mai multe premii. Atunci am simţit că încep lucrurile să se lege. În acelaşi an, dar în toamnă, am câştigat Marele Premiu la Gala Hop. De atunci am început să-mi fac meseria în mod constant şi de cele mai multe ori şi remunerat.

‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’ is our jewel, the whole team’s. What happened to this show is unique, we have become a family, it has become part of us, refined our tastes related to projects that followed. We are very pleased to see people returning to see the show for the third or fourth time. What more can you wish for, this is the greatest joy!

What do you think about the institutionalised theatre system and what is your relationship with it?

I did and still collaborate with state theatres, but it did not affect me in any way because I play pretty much in independent theatres, so the state system is neither my enemy nor my friend. It is a place I go to if I like what I am offered, meaning the text and the director.

Have you taken up anything else besides acting? No, not anymore. I love to play and discover new texts. For now, I am not sure I want to do anything else besides that.

What is the project you are most proud of and why?

There are many projects I am thrilled about how they turned out. I am very bound to my shows. But one of my favourites is ‘Five hours with Mario’, directed by Mariana Camarasan. It is a one-woman show that makes you laugh and cry, that conveys the simplicity and philosophy of life, a text that I dramatised with Mariana Camarasan

S-ar spune că-ți merge mai bine-n film, decât pe teatru. Cum stau lucrurile, de fapt?

Anul acesta au ieşit ambele filme, Toni Erdmann şi Inimi Cicatrizate, deşi ele au fost filmate în 2014, respectiv 2015. Tot anul acesta am fost la Tv cu Atletico Textila şi am filmat în Olanda. A fost o sincronizare fericită în 2016 în care munca din mai mulţi ani a fost expusă în acelaşi timp. În schimb, dacă iei fiecare an separat, ajungi la doar câteva zile de filmare. Asta nu înseamnă că mă plâng, sunt foarte fericită pentru toate aceste întâlniri extraordinare, dar teatrul este în continuare pentru mine acasă.

Noi ne cunoaștem bine și știu că valul pe care ești în momentul ăsta a venit după multă muncă și perseverență. Cât de importantă e rezistența în domeniul ăsta?

Eu nu zic că am rezistat neapărat, ci pur şi simplu nu concepeam şi nu concep să părăsesc terenul. Rezişti atâta timp cât creezi. Şi până la urmă, să fim serioşi, nu am avut atât de mult de rezistat. Am terminat facultatea în 2012 şi în 2015 am început să lucrez constant. Trei ani nu mi se pare atât de mult pentru această meserie. Ceea ce e întotdeauna greu de acceptat e că acest val, aşa cum îl numeşti tu, se evaporă când te astepţi mai puţin şi atunci trebuie să ai resursele să gestionezi situaţia. Cred că pasiunea aia autentică te salvează în astfel de cazuri şi devine un motor al întregului angrenaj de rezistenţă.

ÁNDI GHERGHE a câștigat premiul pentru cel mai bun actor la Gala Hop a tinerilor interpreți din 2011. De atunci, joacă în regim independent la Târgu Mureș, iar anul acesta a făcut parte din programul 10 pentru TIFF. Am discutat cu Ándi despre viața și oportunitățile actorilor din provincie.

Ándi, tu ai câștigat în 2011 premiul de interpretare la Gala Hop, iar anul ăsta ai fost selectat în programul pentru actori „10 pentru TIFF”. Ce au însemnat lucrurile astea în cariera ta?

Am cunoscut foarte mulți oameni interesanți. Unii dintre ei mi-au devenit prieteni, alții parteneri de scenă. De la alții am învățat foarte multe. Meseria asta

se bazează foarte mult pe networking-ul personal. Durata de viață a premiilor nu e mai mare de un an. E o poziție în CV și poate o satisfacție personală că ești pe drumul cel bun. Dar dacă te gândești prea mult la premiu o iei într-o direcție greșită și nu e ok. La 10 pentru TIFF a fost mult mai ok, poate și pentru că nu a fost cu premii și am putut să ne cunoaștem mai bine între noi și să facem mai multe lucruri împreună. Poate nu ar fi rău ca și Gala HOP să preia acest format: să aleagă 10 actori, să cheme un regizor mare care să lucreze cu cei 10 absolvenți selectați, să scoată un spectacol pe care să îl plimbe prin țară. Premiile nu ajută absolvenții. Noul format i-ar ajuta, în schimb, să fie văzuți și promovați în rândul producătorilor de spectacole.

Care e legătura ta cu teatrul din Târgu Mureș, ești angajat acolo? Dar cu industria din București? Vii pentru probe?

Nu sunt angajat la Târgu-Mureș. Am fost dintotdeauna independent și deocamdată prefer acest statut. Îmi place să îmi aleg proiectele în care joc și îmi place să am timp liber și pentru cealaltă pasiune – regia. Am fost la câteva probe pentru film, dar e destul de dificil pentru că sunt foarte puține proiecte în care se decontează transportul. Dacă ar trebui să merg la toate casting-urile aș cheltui o avere doar pe transport. Din fericire, odată cu dezvoltarea tehnologiei, au început tot mai mulți să accepte probe prin skype sau filmate cu telefonul în prealabil. Dar, vin destul de des la București (am familie acolo) și atunci încerc să le leg.

Care e relația ta cu teatrul de stat versus cel independent? Care sunt diferențele/avantajele/dezavantajele? Ca actor angajat într-un teatru de stat ai protecția și drepturile sociale pe care ți le oferă contractul de muncă: asigurare medicală, vechime, etc. În 99% din cazuri programul unui actor din sistem are două reprize de repetiții (cu stres cu tot), cu pauză între, plus ajuns acasă la oră decentă. În teatrul independent actorul are mai multe funcții. Între cele două reprize de repetiții, actorul independent participă

What would you say to young people who dream to become actors, now, nearly ten years after your graduation? To be patient!

What is your greatest joy in your job as an actress? Transparency. It’s a job where you cannot lie, always appealing to the truth, the genuine, so what could be more enjoyable?

DANA MARINECI won the grand

prize at the Young Actor Gala held in Costinești in 2015 and since then her career has continuously been picking up pace. She may be seen in ‘Bucharest. Human Installation’, directed by Radu Nica, at Arcub, and also in the Atletico Textila series on ProTV. This year, Dana shot a feature film in the Netherlands, directed by Nanouk Leopold.

Dana, you won last year’s young actor’s Gala Hop Grand Prize. How has this helped you?

As far as I’m concerned, I felt a great deal of confidence in myself and the others’ confidence in me. They go hand in hand, either way. Nothing took shape after Gala Hop, apart from a small part in Radu Jude’s ‘Scarred Hearts’, but every time I went to a casting I felt that I arouse curiosity thanks to this award. Everyone wanted to see what’s up with the girl standing before them. I think I was given more attention than others were. I say ‘was given’ because all such awards get forgotten, and pretty quickly for that matter.

How would you describe your journey as a young actress? Was it hard, was it easy?

It was as it should have been. I was admitted to UNATC when I was 22 years old and graduated at 25. I failed to be accepted in a Master’s degree

ÁNDI GHERGHE won the best

actor award at the young performers’ Gala Hop in 2011. Since then, he has played independently in Targu Mures, and this year he was part of the 10 for TIFF program. I talked to Ándi about the life and opportunities of actors coming from provincial towns.

Ándi, you won the acting award at the 2011 Gala Hop, and this year you were selected for the 10 for TIFF actors’ program. What did these things mean for your career?

© Studio New Generation program, so I did everything I could to not abandon the playground: I sat all exams in college where I was needed, I took part in all auditions and competitions I heard of and felt that I went forward with a blind trust, that that’s what I should be doing. I don’t know if it was easy or hard, but there have been many times it has definitely been uncomfortable. In January 2015, acting on a proposal from Irina CraitaMandra, I did a one-woman show based on two texts by Alina Nelega. I won several prizes with this show. It was then that I felt that things were starting to look up. That same year, in autumn, I won the Gala Hop Grand Prize. Since then, I began to do my job consistently and I was often paid for it.

One might say you’re doing better in movies than in theatre. How are things, really?

This year both movies came out, and I’m referring to ‘Toni Erdmann’ and ‘Scarred Hearts’ although they were shot in 2014 and in 2015, respectively. This year I was also on TV in ‘Atletico Textila’ and I shot in the Netherlands.

2016 marked a happy time, when the work I did several years before was made public simultaneously. Conversely, if you take each year separately, you get only a few days of shooting. That doesn’t mean that I’m complaining about anything. I’m very happy for all of these extraordinary engagements, but theatre still means home for me.

We know each other well and I am sure that the wave you are riding on this very moment came after much work and perseverance. How important is endurance in this field?

I don’t think I have necessarily endured anything, but I simply did not and would not think for a moment about leaving the playing field. You endure as long as you create. And finally, let’s face it; I didn’t have much to endure. I graduated college in 2012 and in 2015 I started working constantly. Three years doesn’t seem so long for this job. What is always hard to accept is that this wave, as you call it, breaks when you least expect it and it is then that you need to have the resources to manage the situation right. I met a lot of interesting people, some of whom became my friends, others stage partners. From others I learned a lot. This job relies heavily on personal networking. An award’s lifetime is under a year. It’s just a position in your CV and maybe a personal satisfaction telling you are on the right track. But if you think too much about an award, you may take a wrong turn and that’s not OK. 10 for TIFF was more than OK, perhaps because prizes were not its stake and we were able to get acquainted with the rest and do more things together. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if Gala HOP took on the same format: meaning choose 10 actors, call on a great director to work with the 10 selected graduates and build a show to play throughout the country. Prizes don’t help graduates. The new format would help them be noticed by show producers.

What’s your connection to the Targu Mures theatre? Are you employed there? What about the Bucharest industry? Do you usually come here for auditions?

I am not employed in Targu Mures. I have always been independent and for now I prefer this status. I like to select the projects I play in and also have free time for my other passion – directing. I’ve given several movie auditions, but it’s pretty difficult because there are very few projects that include the settlement of transportation costs. If I went to all castings, I’d spend a fortune just on transportation. Fortunately, with the advent of technology, more people are beginning to accept auditions by Skype or recorded with the mobile phone in advance. Still, I come quite often over to Bucharest (I have family here) and so I try to kill two birds with one stone.

What is your relationship with the state theatre versus the independent one? What are the differences/ advantages / disadvantages between them? As an actor employed by a state theatre,

la crearea decorului: dă cu ciocanul sau cu pensula. Tot el este cel care își rezolvă costumul, recuzita, ține curățenia în scenă și în spațiul de întâmpinare a publicului. Dar se mai ocupă și de acte în asociația respectivă mai pune osul și la deconturi și alte operațiuni administrative. Stă nopțile și scrie proiecte și apoi stă ca pe ghimpi să primească rezultatele să vadă dacă proiectul depus primește finanțare. Dacă rezultatul e negativ, toată munca a fost degeaba și va trebui să o ia de la zero. Și peste toate astea mai vine și câte un sinistru să îți spună că ești șomer. Este greu, dar în țara în care cultura este băgată în dubă, iar șeful de la Uniter (n.r. Uniunea artiștilor de teatru din România) ne consideră șomeri, nici nu ar putea fi altfel. Și totul pornește din debandada legislativă. Legile sunt făcute să îi protejeze pe unii, iar dacă încerci să reformezi ceva te mănâncă lupii.

ADA GALEȘ a câștigat premiul Uniter pentru debut în 2016, este angajată la Teatrul Sică Alexandrescu din Brașov și pe lângă performanțele ei actoricești, s-a remarcat printr-un spirit civic ieșit din comun în mediul artistic, sancționând diferite abuzuri la locul de muncă.

Ada, tu ai câștigat anul ăsta premiul Uniter pentru debut. Ce s-a întâmplat în cariera ta de atunci?

Uau. Încă nu-mi dau seama, a trecut foarte repede perioada de după premiu și probabil o să resimt impactul abia peste câțiva ani. Mă gândesc că nominalizarea a fost cea mai importantă, nu premiul în sine. Poate că m-am aflat la locul potrivit în momentul potrivit și

dincolo de meritul profesional de care sunt conștientă, mă gândesc că este vorba și despre noroc. Cred că este importantă recunoașterea, în orice domeniu am activa. În sensul în care ai nevoie ca munca pe care o faci să fie răsplătită și lăudată. M-am trezit mai încrezătoare vreo două săptămâni ce-i drept, iar asta pentru că simt că spectacolul e bun și premiul pe care l-am luat îl împart cu toată echipa.

În ultima vreme te-ai remarcat și printr-o serie de intervenții publice în care ai sesizat nereguli instituționale, pornind de la cele din facultate și până la cele de la teatrul în care ești angajată. Ce te-a motivat să devii activistă?

România este o țară care te motivează să devii activist și protestatar de serviciu. Mai mult decât atât cred că structural eu am un suflet militant, de luptător. Aș vrea ca dincolo de rolurile pe care le fac în teatru sau în film oamenii să se poată raporta la mine ca om. Cred că este datoria mea să vin în fața lor dreaptă și verticală, să fiu, atât cât pot, un reper în primul rând pentru mine și un ajutor pentru oricine aș intra în contact, în orice formă. În 2016 în România nu este formată, după părerea mea, o masă critică. Cred că este datoria mea de a încerca să pregătesc terenul tinerilor născuți după 2000 de a forma această masă critică și de a crea un precedent.

În mediul nostru, foarte mulți dintre colegii actori, se tem să vorbească despre neregulile sistemice. E greu să-ți asumi rolul de whistleblower?

Am auzit de multe ori spunându-mi-se că „ar trebui să-mi văd de treaba mea” că e prea multă revoluție în mine, că îmi

one enjoys the protection and social rights that an employment contract offers: a health insurance, pension, etc. In 99% of the cases, the program of an actor in such a system consists of two rounds of rehearsals (with stress and all), with a break in-between them, plus the possibility of getting back home at a decent hour. In the case of independent theatres, an actor has several functions. Between the two rounds of rehearsals, the independent actor gets involved in the creation of the settings: they hammer or paint. They are also the ones who come up with their own costumes, props, clean the stage and the space where the public is welcomed to the show. If they are also in charge with documents for said association, they may also be asked to take care of expense accounts and other administrative operations. They spend their nights writing projects and then they are all on wires to get the results and see whether the submitted project should receive funding. If the assessment is negative, all the work would have been for nothing and they’d have to start from scratch. After all this, there are times when grim folks tell you that you are unemployed. It is difficult, but in the country where culture takes the back seat and the head of Uniter (The Romanian Association of Theatre Artists) considers us unemployed, nothing could be possibly different. It all starts from the upside-down laws. Laws are made to protect certain people, and if you try to reform some aspects the wolves come hunting you down.

Ada, you won the Uniter award for debut this year. What has happened in your career since then?

Wow, I still can’t figure that one out! Time passed very quickly after winning that prize and I will very likely feel the impact in a few years’ time... I think that being nominated was the most important aspect, not winning the prize itself. Maybe I was in the right place at the right time and, beyond the professional merit I am deeply aware of, I think it was also about luck. I believe acknowledgement is important in any field we work, in the sense that

depășesc atribuțiile din fișa postului și așa mai departe. Din punctul ăsta de vedere e greu, pentru că mulți oameni se raportează la frica lor și nu sunt capabili să judece situația în care sunt pur și simplu. Se gândesc și acționează, sau mai bine zis aleg să nu acționeze în funcție de ce e probabil sau nu să se întâmple. Încerc pe cât pot să le înțeleg frica și limitările și mă străduiesc să nu îi judec. Pe durata conflictului de la Brașov am slăbit 4 kilograme și probabil că în momentul la care scriu acest interviu mă simt dezamăgită și deziluzionată, dar nu aș fi putut să trăiesc cu mine dacă aș fi lăsat capul jos și aș fi închis gura.

Care a fost cel mai greu moment de când ai sesizat public, împreună cu colegii tăi, neregulile concursului de ocupare a postului de director al teatrului din Brașov?

La Brașov purtăm o luptă grea cu Primăria care durează de mult timp, de dinainte să fiu eu angajată acolo. Protestul a început în noiembrie 2015. Am câștigat pe atunci o bătălie, am oprit închirierea în mod abuziv a sălii teatrului, dar ne-am trezit la aproape un an distanță în fața unui concurs aranjat. O mascaradă pe care din nou am reușit să o oprim. Sunt mândră și recunoscătoare colegilor mei că au avut curaj și demnitate să lupte. Durerea cea mai mare și momentul în care creierul meu s-a oprit a fost când la o săptămână de la demisia directorului care câștigase concursul aranjat a fost pusă interimar cea mai aprigă susținătoare a lui. Poate părea o poveste de teatru absurd. Eu m-am blocat în momentul în care mi-am dat seama că obediența, rea voința și incompetența sunt defectele care te fac director într-o instituție publică din România.

CĂTĂLINA BĂLĂLĂU a câștigat

premiul special al juriului la Gala Hop din 2015 și este actriță angajată la Teatrul Tineretului din Piatra Neamț, însă continuă să colaboreze cu teatrele din București. În 2016 a fost aleasă să participe în programul 10 pentru TIFF.

Cătălina, tu ai câștigat anul trecut premiul special al juriului la Gala Hop a tânărului actor. Te-a ajutat în vreun fel asta?

Sigur că da. In primul rând să-ţi mai zică și altcineva că e ceva de capul tău și nu ești doar tu cea care crede asta şi deja parcă e mai bine. Nu am căutat confirmare dar faptul că am primit-o a fost plăcut, iar Gala Hop e o platformă de lansare foarte bună fie și numai pentru faptul că au mai auzit oamenii de Cătălina Bălălău și e un câștig. © Adi Bulboacă one needs to be rewarded and praised for the work they do. I found myself more confident about two weeks after that event, to be honest, just because I feel that the show is good and I share the prize I won with the whole team.

Lately you have come to the fore with a series of public interventions pointing at institutional irregularities, both at college as well as at the theatre you have taken employment with. What motivated you to become an activist?

Romania is a country that motivates you to become an activist and a usual protester. Moreover, I think that I am structurally built to be a militant and a fighter. I wish that, beyond the roles I take on in theatre or movies, people could relate to me as a person. I think it is my duty to come before them as straight and honest as much as I can, as a role model, first and foremost. Offering a helping hand to anyone I may come into contact with, in any form. In

2016, there still isn’t any critical body in Romania, as far as I am aware. I think it is my duty to try to pave the ground for those born after 2000 to create a critical body and create a precedent.

In our environment, many of our fellow actors are afraid to talk about systemic irregularities. Is it hard to assume the role of whistle-blower? I heard people telling me, time and time again, that ‘I should mind my own business’, that there’s too much revolution in me, that I go beyond the duties in my job description so on and so forth. From this point of view it is, indeed, difficult because many people relate to their own fear and are unable to simply judge the situation at hand. They think and act, or rather choose not to act depending on what is likely or not to happen. I try as much as I can to understand their fear and limitations and I strive not to judge

Ai fost selectată să participi vara asta în „10 pentru TIFF” și ai filmat unul din video-urile mele preferate din program. Ai avut şansa să faci până acum film? Dacă da, cum a fost?

Ce mult mă bucur că îți place clip-ul! Am dezvoltat povestea împreună cu Radu Bărbulescu care ne-a întrebat ce fel de personaj am vrea să jucăm. Pe mine mă sâcâise sora mea în ultima periodă și miam zis că asta ar fi răzbunarea perfectă, să joc un personaj cu toate ticurile ei! A fost minunată experiența 10 pentru TIFF și mi-a deschis un grozav apetit pentru a juca în film. Am avut șansa să dau câteva probe de film, una echilibrată, una foarte dificilă care a durat patru ore și din care am învățat foarte mult și una pe care am ratat-o complet de am ajuns să plâng prin Obor de mama focului, așteptând să vină persoana cu care trebuia să mă întorc la Piatra-Neamț și m-a mai și amenințat un nene cu un satâr de tăiat vinete că nu am avut să îi dau țigări. E un proces care cere timp și nu vreau să grăbesc lucrurile sau să pun prea multă presiune pe dorința asta. Presupun că atunci când va trebui va veni și rolul, până atunci sunt la fel de disciplinată, merg la probe și sunt gata să învăț.

Cât de ușor sau dificil a fost traseul tău ca actriță până în momentul ăsta?

Ușor sau dificil, n-aș putea spune, a fost și este mai degrabă ca o călătorie a lui Alice în Țara Minunilor. Să mă apuc de actorie nu a fost greu, a fost dintr-un impuls al adolescenței și din lipsă de alte idei. Munca a început apoi când ușor-ușor a trebuit să îmi asum hotărârea. Din fericire nu e un drum pe care merg singură și eu chiar am întâlnit o grămadă de oameni care cred în mine și îmi dau șanse să cresc. Am jucat și în proiecte exact așa cum aș fi dorit și în producții foarte nefericite, nu am fost mereu răsfățată și culmea am învățat mult mai multe lucruri din întâmplările nereușite. Acum sunt într-un moment fericit al carierei mele, toamna e frumoasă în Piatra-Neamț și drumurile până la București trec repede, dar nu știu când o să aud un Iepuraș cu un ceas în buzunarul vestei care se vaită „Vai de mine! Vai de mine! O să întârzii!”

them. During the conflict in Brasov I lost 4 kilograms and I probably feel disappointed and disillusioned at the moment of writing this interview, but I couldn’t have lived with myself if I kept my head down and remained silent.

What was the most difficult moment since you and your colleagues fought, in public, the irregularities in the contest for the position of director of the Brasov theatre?

In Brasov we have been fighting a tough battle with the City Hall, which has lasted for a long time, and began before I became employed by the theatre. The protest started in November 2015. We won a battle then, in that we stopped the unpleasant renting of the theatre hall, but, almost a year later, we came up against a rigged contest. A masquerade we, again, managed to stop. I am proud and grateful to my colleagues that they had the courage and dignity to fight. The greatest pain and the moment my brain froze was when, a week after the resignation of the director who had won the rigged contest, his most fierce supporter was called on to fill in the role on an interim basis. It may seem like the story of an absurd theatre play. I grew disheartened when I realised that obedience, bad will and incompetence were characteristics that made you good director material in a public institution in Romania.

CATALINA BALALAU won the

special jury award at the 2015 Gala Hop and is an actress employed by the Youth Theatre in Piatra Neamt, who also still continues to collaborate with theatres in Bucharest. In 2016, she was selected to participate in the 10 for TIFF program.

Catalina, you won last year’s special jury award at the young actor’s Gala Hop. Has this helped you in any way?

Sure it did. First of all, somebody else gets to admit that you’re good at what you do and it’s not just you who believes that, and things already start looking more promising. I did not seek confirmation, but the fact that I got it was pleasant and Gala Hop is the greatest launch pad, even if only because people hear about Catalina Bălălău it’s still a benefit. Not to mention the whole one-day adventure I went through in 2015, when I took part in it: I was rehearsing in Bucharest, the premiere was approaching and I could get only one day off to attend the Gala, and that was the day when the miracle happened...

You were selected to take part this summer in ‘10 for TIFF’ and you shot one of my favourite videos in the program. Have you had the chance to do a movie before? If so, how was it?

I am extremely happy that you like the video! We developed the story together with Radu Barbulescu, who asked us what kind of character we would like to play. My sister had been nagging me regularly lately and I thought playing a character having all her mannerisms would be the perfect revenge! The 10 for TIFF experience was wonderful and gave me the urge to act in movies. I had the chance to audition for several movies, an ok one, a very difficult one that lasted four hours and from which I learned a lot and one which I threw away completely, so much so that I ended up crying in Obor, waiting for the person I was supposed to get back to Piatra Neamt with. To make matters worse, a man also threatened me with an aubergine slicer because I had no cigarettes to give him. That’s a process that takes time and I don’t want to rush things or put too much pressure on this desire. I suppose that the role will come at the right time, and until then I will continue to be as disciplined as before, give auditions and be ready to learn.

How easy or difficult was your journey as an actress until now?

I couldn’t say it was easy or difficult, but that it rather was and still is a journey of Alice in Wonderland. Starting acting was not hard. It was more like an adolescence impulse, for lack of other ideas. Then, work started building up when I slowly had to face up to my decision. Fortunately, this is not a road to go on alone and I actually met a great deal of people who believe in me and give me opportunities to grow. I played in projects that were exactly as I dreamt they would be, but also in very unfortunate productions, I wasn’t always spoiled and, what’s more, I learned much more from unsuccessful attempts. Now I am in a happy moment of my career, autumn is beautiful in Piatra Neamt and the distance to Bucharest is bearable, but I don’t know when I will hear a Rabbit with a pocket watch lamenting, ‘Oh, my paws and whiskers! I’ll be late!’

În perioada 10 noiembrie 2016 – 15 ianuarie 2017 la Muzeul Național de Artă Contemporană (MNAC) vor fi prezentate expoziția și seria de evenimente „Totul e regizat | This Is a Set-up”, proiect câștigător al apelului de proiecte MNAC 2015. Conceptul este curatoriat de Alexandru Bălășescu, realizat de artiștii Ioana Păun și Cătălin Rulea, cu participarea arhitectului Cristina Nicolaescu. Expoziția propune o critică a universului media contemporan prin prisma imersiei într-o serie de spații care reproduc diferite instanțe ale producției și consumului de media. Expoziția va fi marcată pe durata ei de evenimente cu public și personalități media românești. Despre curator și artiști: Alexandru Bălășescu este un teoretician, antropolog, scriitor, cu numeroase colaborări în proiecte multidisciplinare (artă, arhitectură și urbanism) ce a predat la mai multe universități din țară şi străinătate (America, Turcia, Franța etc). Cătălin Rulea este artist și muzician, activ pe scena de muzică alternativă și implicat în proiecte de teatru contemporan. Ioana Păun este regizoare de teatru și Action-Researcher, iar în momentul de față își încheie doctoratul cu o cercetare activă în Participare și Democrație în Performance. A regizat și produs numeroase spectacole, pe scene naționale și internaționale.

Continuând abordarea propriei colecții ca bază de date aleatorie (demers inaugurat în expoziția Colecția ca arhivă, 2015), MNAC folosește spațiile încărcate simbolic de la parterul sediului său din fosta Casă a Poporului ca pe o stație de triaj, unde lucrările de artă sunt aduse pentru vizionare, dar și pentru conservare, în cadrul unei operațiuni complexe de reorganizare a depozitelor.

EFEMERISTUL. RETROSPECTIVĂ MIHAI OLOS 10.11.2016 - 26.03.2017 Etaj 1

Activ în România și Germania în perioada anilor 1970-2000, Mihai Olos a lăsat la dispariția sa (2016) o operă impresionantă, care traversează diverse medii (pictură, sculptură, desen, ceramică, vestimentație, performanță, poezie) și explorează varii tendințe stilistice (modernism târziu, conceptualism, minimalism). Efemeristul este prima ocazie de a avea o privire exhaustivă asupra unuia dintre cei mai importanți artiști ai României post-belice, spirit înrudit cu Buckminster Fuller, Yona Friedman și alți vizionari.

NISTOR COITA. RETROSPECTIVĂ 10.11.2016 - 26.03.2017 Etaj 2

Expoziția Nistor Coita (1943-2013) de la MNAC are un caracter retrospectiv, vizibil mai ales într-un parcurs alcătuit din marile cicluri realizate de artist după 2000, de la Sfântul Gheorghe și Exercițiile de coabitare, până la Studiile mitologice, Pasajele și Cosmografiile. Expoziția poate fi privită și ca o apologie a virtuților desenului, căci Nistor Coita se autodefinea ca grafician și nu ca pictor. Și tot cultivarea desenului l-a apropiat grafic de virtuțile scrierii, în sensul ei originar de pictogramă și de valențele modernității târzii ale letrismului.

This Is a Set-up | Totul e regizat 10.11.2016-15.01.2017 Third Floor

The exhibition and series of events ‘Totul e regizat | This Is a Set-up’ will be presented between 10 November 2016 and 15 January 2017 at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC). The project is the winner of the 2015 MNAC call for projects, with a concept curated by Alexandru Bălășescu, presenting the work of artists Ioana Păun and Cătălin Rulea, with the participation of architect Cristina Nicolaescu. The exhibition proposes a critique of contemporary media universe through the immersion in a series of spaces that replicate different instances of media production and consumption. The exhibition will be marked by a series of events, with the participation of Romanian media personalities. More about the curator and the artists: Alexandru Bălășescu is a theorist, anthropologist, writer, with numerous collaborations in multidisciplinary projects (art, architecture and urbanism) who taught at several universities in Romania and abroad (USA,Turkey, France etc.). Cătălin Rulea is an artist and musician; he is active on the alternative music scene and involved in contemporary theater projects. Ioana Păun is a theatre director and an Action-Researcher; she is currently finalizing her PhD with an active research on Participation and Democracy in Performance. She directed and produced numerous shows on national and international scenes.

Continuing to look at its own collection as a random database of artifacts (approach inaugurated in the exhibition The Collection as an Archive, 2015), MNAC uses the landmark spaces from the ground floor of its venue (formerly known as ‘the Palace of Ceaușescu’) as a marshalling yard, where art works are brought in the open for (visual) browsing, but also for maintenance, in view of a thorough re-organization of the art depots.

THE EPHEMERIST. A MIHAI OLOS RETROSPECTIVE 10.11.2016 - 26.03.2017 1st floor Active between Romania and Germany in the years 1970-2000, Mihai Olos left an impressive body of work, exploring various techniques (painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, fashion, performance, poetry), and several stylistic trends (late modernism, conceptualism, minimalism). The Ephemerist is the first attempt at a comprehensive look into the work of probably the most important artist in post-WW2 Romania, spirit kindred to Buckminster Fuller, Yona Friedman and other such visionaries.

Faimoasa declaraţie din 1840 a anarhistului francez Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, Proprietatea e furt! (La propriété, c’est le vol!), are impactul unui slogan politic şi serveşte ca titlu al primei expoziţii de amploare în România a artistului austriac Oliver Ressler. Selecţia de lucrări din expoziţie, predominant filme şi video-instalaţii, aduce în discuţie probleme ca efectul de încălzire globală sau procesele de privatizare „sălbatică” care au loc în fostele ţări comuniste, prezentate în raport cu mişcările sociale pe care le-au generat ca reacţie în ultima perioadă – protestele, grevele, blocadele din industria combustibililor fosili şi ocuparea fabricilor şi a pieţelor (Occupy!).

Expoziția Amintiri din adâncurile Mării Thetis decupează din perioada în care artistul a lucrat în atelierul său din Cluj (2009-2015) o fâșie vizuală stratificată temporal, de la indiciile preistorice ale identității locului, până la viziunile despre o lume condusă în viitor de roboți. Aglomerarea de imagini și mediile de expresie diferite – pictură, obiect, instalație și desen – formează un atelier tehnologic și organic, în care două lumi distincte se ciocnesc.

This retrospective shows the large series made after 2000, from St. George and the Exercises in cohabitation, to the Mythological Studies, Passages and Cosmographies. The exhibition emphasizes the virtues of drawing, as Nistor Coita (1943-2013) defined himself as a graphic artist, and not a painter, cultivating drawing as an art form has brought him nearer to the virtues of writing, in its original meaning of pictogram, and to the late modernity of Lettrism.

OLIVER RESSLER. PROPERTY IS THEFT 10.11.2016 - 26.03.2017 3rd floor

The famous statement made by French anarchist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon in 1840 serves as the title of Austrian artist Oliver Ressler’s first survey exhibition in Romania. Focusing on films and video-installations, the selection raises issues of financial and economic crisis in relation to aggravating ecological problems and the reaction of social movement to it – the strikes, protests, blockades of fossil fuel industry and occupation of factories and squares.

MEMORIES FROM THE DEPTHS OF THE THETYS SEA. MIHUȚ BOȘCU KAFCHIN 08.09.2016 – 31.12.2016 4th floor

The exhibition Memories from the depths of the Thetys Sea takes a clipping from the period in which the artist was working in his studio in Cluj (20092015). The cutout is a visual section layered in different time frames – from the prehistorically suggestions of the geographical identity of the place, to the visions of a future world ruled by robots. The agglomeration of images and different media – paintings, objects, installations and drawings – constitute a technological and organic workshop in which two distinct worlds collide.

Păduri neatinse de om, în inima munților Carpați În trecut, natura ne domina, iar noi ne temeam de lucrurile pe care le vedeam în sălbăticie, după cum o arată picturile rupestre. Astazi însă, lucrurile s-au inversat. Am ajuns să impingem tot mai departe natura de noi, fără nicio reținere, făcând loc pentru „civilizația modernă”. Unele dintre cele mai vizibile distrugeri sunt cele din păduri. Cu toate acestea, în Carpaţii românești se păstrează o foarte mare parte din pădurile seculare ale Europei. Aici, păduri virgine adăpostesc arbori de peste 500 de ani ce trăiesc într-un echilibru nedereglat de intervenția omului. În Europa, pădurile virgine aproape că au dispărut, dar în România mai există acești codri, bătrâni de secole, sunt printre puținele ecosisteme din lume în care natura supravieţuieşte în forma sa pură. Prin eforturile WWF, mii de hectare de păduri seculare sunt înscrise pentru aprobare în lista patrimoniului mondial UNESCO, iar alte zeci de mii de hectare au fost idenitificate, cartate și protejate.

Forests untouched by man, in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains In the past, nature used to dominate us, and we used to be afraid of the things we saw in the wilderness, as shown by cave paintings. Today, however, things have changed radically. We have arrived at a point where we are pushing nature away, without any restraint, creating space for the ‘modern civilization’. Some of the most visible damages are caused to the forests. In spite of this, the Romanian Carpathians are still home to a large share of Europe’s ancient forests. Here, virgin forests shelter trees that are more than 500 years old in age, living in a natural harmony that has not been affected by human intervention. It is here, in these primary forests, that we can see how all living things cohabitate.

Aici, poți vedea arbori ce au fost martori la pribegiile multor haiduci - imaginează-ți cum în aceste păduri cu arbori de peste 400 de ani au hoinărit personaje istorice ca Andri Popa sau Baba Novac. Dacă asculți freamătul frunzelor, aproape că auzi una din baladele închinate haiducilor români.

Unde? Descoperă Mara-Cosău-Creasta Cocoșului, Pădurea Craiului, Zărnești-Piatra Craiului, Țara Dornelor, Țara Hațegului.

Iar dacă vrei să vezi ceva cu adevărat impresionant, ridică-ți ochii către cer - la Șinca găsești cel mai înalt brad din România - peste 62 de metri! Mai înalt decât un bloc cu 10 etaje! Când? Îți recomandăm: finalul primăverii, vara sau prima jumătate a toamnei.

România are 10 destinații de ecoturism majoritatea acestora sunt situate în apropierea pădurilor, incluzând și activități extrem de atractive – cum ar fi plimbări cu trenul cu aburi precum Mocănița.

Drumeții, birdwatching, activități de timp liber și sporturi

La pas sau pe două roți, pădurile își desfășoară întreaga splendoare, într-un ritm așezat. Există numeroase trasee marcate ce te duc în locuri uimitoare. Poți încerca și rafting pe râuri repezi de munte, canoe, zboruri cu parapanta ori alpinism. În pădurile din Carpați poți să observi o mulțime de animale: de la salamandre, vipere, cocoși de mesteacăn, șoimi călători, până la cerbi, capre negre, râși sau urși. Când? Perioadele optime sunt primăvara, vara și toamna devreme.

Here, you will see trees that have been witness to the adventures of many outlaws – imagine how these forests, over 400 years old, have been walked by historical characters, such as Andri Popa or Baba Novac. If you listen closely to the trembling leaves, you can almost hear one of the ballads dedicated to such characters. And, if you want to see something really impressive, look up to the sky – Sinca is home to the tallest fir tree in Romania – it’s over 62 meters! Taller than a 10-floor building! When? By foot or on two wheels, forests truly unravel themselves, at a steady pace. There are many marked paths leading to amazing places. You can also try rafting on fast mountain rivers, canoeing, paragliding or mountain-climbing. A lot of animal species can be seen in the Carpathian forests: salamanders, snakes, black grouses, peregrine falcons, deer, black goats, lynx or bears. When? The best time to do it is during spring, summer or early autumn.

Dacă sunteţi curioși să aflați și voi mai multe despre iarnă, am adunat o serie de fun facts pe care cel mai probabil nu le știați și care mai mult ca sigur o să vă placă.

If you are curious to find out more about winter, I gathered several fun facts you probably didn’t know and which you’ll most likely enjoy.

✳ Meteorologii definesc iarna ca fiind anotimpul în care temperaturile sunt cele mai scăzute. Acest lucru se întâmplă în Emisfera Nordică în lunile decembrie, ianuarie și februarie, pe când în cea Sudică, iarna cuprinde lunile iunie, iulie și august.

✳ Meteorologists define winter as the season with the lowest temperatures. This occurs in December, January and February in the Northern Hemisphere, while in the Southern Hemisphere, winter includes June, July and August.

hiar dacă iarna suntem nevoiți să mai punem câteva haine groase pe noi, asta nu înseamnă că nu iubim acest anotimp în care sărbătorim Crăciunul, sporturile de iarnă și peisajele de poveste. Iarna ne invită să ieșim din case și să ne jucăm în zăpadă, să ne bucurăm cât mai mult de zi (se înnoptează mai devreme) și să fim mai darnici și mai blânzi.

✳ În medie, un fulg de nea cade cu o viteză de 4.8 kmp. ✳ Cel mai mare fulg de zăpadă a căzut pe 28 ianuarie 1887, în Montana. Fulgul avea 46 de centimetri lățime și 20 de centimetri grosime, conform Cărţii Recordurilor.

Când fotonii razelor de lumină intră în cristalele de la suprafața stratului de zăpadă, ei se răsfrâng asupra tuturor cristalelor creându-se astfel un fenomen optic complex în urma căruia toată zăpada pare albă.

arna reprezintă noaptea anotimpurilor, iar în literatură, acest anotimp este prezentat cât mai dramatic cu putință. Zăpada, gheața, furtunile creează o atmosferă incitantă, chiar magică. După cum spunea și scriitorul J.B. Priestley, „prima zăpadă… e un eveniment magic. Te duci la culcare iar dimineața te trezești într-o lume complet diferită, iar dacă asta nu este magie, atunci unde putem găsi magia?” Cea mai populară poveste de iarnă din literatură este Colindă de Crăciun, a lui Charles Dickens. Pe lângă descrierile anotimpului aspru, povestea este o căutare și redescoperire a umanității. Scrooge, personajul principal, descoperă ce înseamnă generozitatea, căldura umană și noblețea sufletească. O altă poveste de referință a iernii este Cei Morţi (The Dead), a lui James Joyce, care deapănă o dramă de familie și care a rămas celebră în literatură pentru pasajul său final, una dintre cele mai poetice și profunde descrieri ale căderii fulgilor: „Câteva bătăi ușoare în geam l-au făcut să se întoarcă la fereastră. Începuse să ningă din nou. Privea somnoros fulgii de zăpadă, amestec de argint și întuneric răsfrângându-se în lumina lămpii. Îi venise timpul să pornească spre vest. Da, ziarele au avut dreptate: zăpada s-a așternut peste toată Irlanda. Cădea peste fiecare colțisor al întunecatei câmpii centrale, peste dealurile cu copaci golași, peste Bog of Allen și mai departe spre vest căzând ușor în valurile răscolite ale Shannonului. Se așternea, de asemenea, peste cimitirul singuratic de pe deal unde Michael Furey își avea odihna. Indiferent dacă au pictat iarna în culori călduroase sau sumbre, terifiante, scriitorii și-au găsit mereu inspirație în acest anotimp. Lucru valabil de altfel și pentru cititor, pentru că frigul de afară parcă te îndeamnă să te cuibărești pe fotoliu cu o carte bună și un ceai.

inter is the night of all seasons and it is represented quite dramatically in the realm of literature. Snow and storms create an inciting, magical atmosphere and as J.B. Priestley was saying ‘The first fall... is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment, where is it to be found?’ The most popular winter story in the literary universe is Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Apart from the descriptions of this cold and rough season, the story is a search and a discovery of humanitarianism. Scrooge, the main character, learns about generosity, human warmth and inner peace. Another famous winter-related story is The Dead, written by James Joyce, a family drama which has earned its place in the world’s literature for its final phrase, one of the most poetic and deep descriptions of falling snow: ‘A few light taps upon the pane made him turn to the window. It had begun to snow again. He watched sleepily the flakes, silver and dark, falling obliquely against the lamplight. The time had come for him to set out on his journey westward. Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, on the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.’ And if we talked about Christmas and the nearly inevitable family dramas that might appear around the Christmas table, all we have to do is to talk about another symbol of the cold season: the snowman. Raymond Briggs’ story The Snowman – is told through images and is the epitome of any child’s fantasy: a snowman that comes to life. Regardless of having written about winter in warm or terrifying and gloomy words, writers all over the world found this season a very inspirational one. A feeling which the reader shares too, as the cold outside encourages you to nestle in an armchair with a good book and a cup of tea.

Valea Mută is where the key events of this miniseries take place, focusing on the attraction between two teenagers, Filip Zamfir and Horia Diaconu. The two witness a multiple murder, but they hide this to keep their relationship secret, given the prejudices of the world they live in. The series, filmed in Brasov, is the Romanian version of the Swedish Eyewitness series, which also boasts an American adaptation. The series follow the life of a New York pot dealer, having a list of clients with neuroses as diverse as the city, showing us a glimpse of what’s going on in the studios of various New Yorkers. The series manages to combine dry humor with profound observations on human nature and the search for happiness in a witty manner.

Acesta este filmat în Columbia și povestește viața fascinantă a celui mai mare traficant de droguri din istorie: Pablo Escobar, dar și pe cea a agenților de la brigada antidrog care au încercat și reușit să pună capăt ororilor carterului Medellín.

Narcos was one of series that made a splash in 2015, and in 2016 returned with a new season. Filmed in Colombia, it narrates the fascinating life of the greatest drug dealer ever: Pablo Escobar, but also that of the DEA Agents, who tried and managed to end the horrors of the Medellín district.

Din diverse motive n-ai pus până acum o placă de snowboard în picioare, dar, de fiecare dată când auzi piesa Lords of the Boards, de la Guano Apes, îți spui că la prima zăpadă vei îndrepta acest lucru și te vei lăuda pe Facebook cu prima coborâre pe o pârtie. Ei bine, snowboard-ul trebuie abordat cu seriozitate, mai ales dacă vrei să nu te accidentezi și să se lipească de tine și altceva în afară de zăpadă. Pentru a vă oferi câteva sfaturi utile înainte de a vă lansa pe pârtie, am dat fuga până la Brașov și ne-am consultat cu Adrian Pintec: instructor acreditat de snowboard și ski, personal trainer și fondator NevBoard - balance boards din placaj ecologic și stejar stratificat, pentru lucrarea memoriei musculare, îmbunătățirii echilibrului și antrenării întregului corp într-o singură etapă.

Prima oară pe zăpadă? Ia-ți un instructor! Dacă ți se pare că te-ai pregătit de snowboard, pentru că ai urmărit filmulețe pe YouTube și ai ascultat sfaturi de la prieteni care „se dau”, vei fi foarte surprins să vezi că atunci când îți pui placa în picioare și ea începe să alunece ți se golește mintea și intervine automat instinctul de supraviețuire. În 99% din cazuri, primul reflex este să te lași pe spate, pentru că vezi panta abruptă din față, urmat îndeaproape de agitarea mâinilor și a întregului corp. Îți vei reveni abia după ce corpul tău va face contact cu zăpada. Prin comparații simple și tehnici graduale, lucrând cu un instructor, în prima lecție poți face diferența și în loc să arunci placa, poți ajunge să nu o mai lași niciodată de sub picioare.

Învață să te dai și „switch” încă de la început După ce ai învățat să cobori singur și ți se pare că începi să te bucuri din ce în ce mai mult de zăpadă, încearcă o nouă provocare. Dacă ai învățat cu instructor să te dai cu stângul în față (regular), fii propriul tău profesor și începe să te dai și cu dreptul în față (goofy). O să ți se pară greu la început, poate vei lua și o căzătură, dar vei învăța repede. Astfel, îți vei construi un echilibru mult mai bun pe placă și vei putea aborda porțiuni mai grele de pârtie. De asemenea, pentru foarte multe trick-uri vei avea nevoie să aterizezi pe celălalt picior, iar mersul în „switch” te va ajuta foarte mult.

Exersează-ți schemele pe pârtie După ce ai câștigat încredere în tine și începi să cobori bine, vei vrea să încerci și niște scheme. Primul pas

actualizezi constant, în cap, fâșia de pârtie/linia pe care vrei să o abordezi. Încearcă pe porțiuni mai mici și mai ușoare la început și vei progresa rapid.

Perfecționează-ți echilibrul și când nu ai zăpadă la dispoziție În urmă cu aproape un an, am creat împreună cu o echipă de rideri și ingineri o serie de balance-boards pentru a ne menține în formă și în afara sezonului. S-au dovedit a fi extraordinar de precise, rapide și distractive. În același timp am realizat că sunt ideale pentru a-ți lucra echilibrul și memoria musculară utile și în alte sporturi, nu doar în cele de alunecare. Astfel încât mulți sportivi au început să fie interesați să se antreneze pe ele. Faptul că te poți întâlni pe acest balance-board cu situații similare cu cele de pe pârtie reprezintă un avantaj imens. Poţi lucra core-ul și o serie de mușchi foarte importanți pe care nu-i poți lucra la sală și în același timp să te și distrezi puțin.

Don’t purchase equipment before actually starting to ride a snowboard

There are various reasons as to why you haven’t tried snowboarding, yet, whenever you hear the song Lords of the Boards by Guano Apes, you promise yourself that, when the first snow falls, you will fix this and you will brag on Facebook about your first descent on a slope. Well, snowboarding has to be approached in a serious manner, particularly if you do not want to get injured and be stuck to anything other than snow. In order to provide you with some useful advice before going down the slope, we took a trip to Brasov and talked to Adrian Pintec: certified snowboard and ski instructor, personal trainer and the founder of NevBoard – balance boards made of green materials, for working on your muscle memory, improving balance and training the entire body in a single stage.

Your first time on snow? Get an instructor! If you feel you are ready for the snowboard just because you have watched videos on YouTube and have listened to advice from your friends who are ‘hitting the slopes’, you will be very surprised to learn that when your feet are placed on the board, your will forget everything and you will automatically enter the ‘survival mode’. In 99% of the cases, your first reflex will be to lean backwards, since you will see the steep slope in front of you, followed by an irregular movement of your hands and entire body. You will only recover after your body comes into contact with the snow. Using simple comparisons and gradual techniques, by working with an instructor, your

Learn how to ‘switch’ right from the beginning After you have mastered riding down the slope on your own and you feel like you can enjoy the snow, try a new challenge. If your instructor has taught you to use the regular stance (with the left food forward), be your own teacher and start riding with the right foot forward (goofy stance). You will find it difficult at first, you might even fall, but you will learn quickly. The result is you will have a much better balance on the board and you can start tackling the more difficult slopes. Moreover, many tricks require you to land on your other foot, so you will find that knowing how to ‘switch’ can be very helpful.

Try your tricks on the slope When you start to feel confident about your riding skills, you will want to try some tricks as well. The first step would

ahead of you and constantly update the section of the slope/the line you want to use. Try smaller and easier sections at first and you will rapidly progress.

Perfect your balance even when there isn’t any snow Almost a year ago, I created, together with a team of riders and engineers, a series of balance boards which help to stay in shape beyond the winter season. They have proven to be amazingly precise, quick and fun. At the same time, we have found that they are ideal for working on your balance and muscle memory and are useful for other sports as well. The fact that you may encounter similar situations to those on the slopes on this balance-board is a great advantage. You can work on your core and other important muscles, which cannot be worked on at the gym, while also having a little bit of fun.

CÂTEVA LUCRURI INTERESANTE DESPRE TEL AVIV: Vremea este în general caldă tot timpul anului, mai puțin în „iarna lor”, din noiembrie până în februarie, când, de fapt, tot cald este, dar mai și plouă. Cel mai deschis oraș din lume cu cei din comunitatea LGBT: lipsit complet de prejudecăți, toată lumea care vine aici este bine primită și acceptată fix așa cum este. Există peste 45 de km de piste de biciclete - orașul este micuț, așa că se poate ajunge ușor pe bicicletă dintr-un loc în altul.

CE TREBUIE SĂ ȘTII DESPRE CULTURA ORAȘULUI: Tel Aviv-ul nu este un oraș ieftin. Vei cheltui mai mulți bani decât în Europa, dar MERITĂ! Plus de asta, există o groază de lucruri pe care le poți vizita gratis: de la plaje, piețe urbane sau muzee. Apoi, porțiile din restaurante sunt imense, așa că poți împărți fără probleme un fel de mâncare la două persoane; adăugăm aici și gustările orientale aduse din partea casei. În fiecare marți seară, peste 400 de skateri, sub numele de Rollers, ies pe străzile din centru. Poliția este alături de ei pentru a-i proteja și a-i ajuta să circule cu atenție. Dacă îți iei o pereche de role te poți alătura lor. Locul de întânire este Teatrul Național Habima, la ora 10 pm. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CITY’S CULTURE: Tel Aviv isn’t a cheap city. You’ll spend more money there than you would in Europe, but IT’S WORTH IT! What's more, there are a lot of places that you can visit for free from beaches through to urban markets or their museums. Then, the portions served in restaurants are huge, so two persons can easily share one course; we would also like to mention the oriental snacks that are on the house. Each Tuesday evening, over 400 skaters, called Rollers, go out in the streets downtown. The police are there alongside them in order to protect them and to help them move carefully. If you get a pair of roller skates, you can join them. The meeting place is the Habima National Theatre, at 10 pm. The beaches in the city are really special and they are divided into categories – there are beaches for men and women, beaches for the LGBT community, beaches for dog lovers or beaches for parents with children. There are always lifeguards, the spaces are very clean and there is also equipment for exercising.

Tel Aviv este faimos pentru standardul ridicat de viață și un oraș unde te poți simți în siguranță. Părinții își lasă la joacă copiii singuri în parc noaptea, iar asta ar trebui să spună multe. Sâmbăta la evrei este Shabbat și le este interzis să muncească. Cum Tel Aviv-ul este un oraș turistic, aici nu se respectă intens acest obicei, însă, spre exemplu, mijloacele de transport în comun nu circulă atunci. Alte două lucruri demne de menționat sunt: Există o mare varietate de mâncare, iar fructele de mare sunt mereu proaspete și gustoase. Toată lumea vorbește engleză, așă că vei putea comunica ușor, dar și cere indicații - israelienii sunt foarte prietenoși și deschiși.

UNDE IEȘI ȘI CE FACI: Înainte să aterizezi te rugăm să te uiţi pe geamul avionului și să îți imaginezi că acest oraș în urmă cu 100 de ani era doar dune de nisip. Tel Aviv is famous for its high standard of living and it is a city where you can feel safe. Parents leave their children playing alone in the park at night, and this should speak volumes. Saturday is Shabbat for Jews and working is forbidden. Since Tel Aviv is a tourist city, this habit isn’t observed religiously, but, public transport will not be running. Two other things that are worth mentioning: There is a wide variety of food, and seafood is always fresh and tasty. Everybody speaks English, so you will be able to communicate with ease, but you should also ask for directions Israelis are very friendly and open.

Dacă simți nevoia unei pauze și de puțină liniște, atunci te poți plimba pe aici pentru o gură de aer proaspăt și împrejurimi care-ți vor încânta privirea. Viața de noapte a Tel Aviv-ului nu trebuie în niciun caz trecută cu vederea, mai ales că este una dintre cele mai fascinante din lume. If you feel the need for a break and a little quiet, then you can take a stroll in this area for a breath of fresh air and surroundings that will delight your eyes.

Tel Aviv’s nightlife certainly must not be overlooked, especially since it’s one of the most fascinating in the world. Here are a few opinions, according to personal preference: Pasaz and Kuli Alma are places for the very cool and urban crowd, Clara is a very popular fancy club, and The Imperial is a famous cocktail bar. In any case, there is a hip bar at every street corner, so you’re definitely going to have a good time if you want to spend a fun night in the city. As I told you at the beginning, Tel Aviv is a city that must be visited in this lifetime. Within it, you will see that the old world blends with the new, you will find interesting traditions and places that need to be discovered. What more can I say, aren’t you tempted to experience it yourself?

The area where Stockholm stretches at present has been permanently inhabited since the Stone Age, though the first official historical evidence appears only in 1252. At the same time, Stockholm is actually an archipelago with 14 islands off the southeast coast of Sweden, trapped between the Baltic Sea and Lake Märalen. However, Stockholm boasts an underground transportation system and the subway in Stockholm opened in 1950 and is renowned for the train stations’ spectacular decorations. No wonder it has been labelled ‘the longest art gallery in the world’.

Winter is coming

Fiind un oraș nordic, iernile în Sockholm nu sunt dintre cele mai blânde. Totuși, merită vizitat în anotimpul rece pentru a-l vedea în toată splendoarea sau „la el acasă”, cum se mai spune.

As a northern city, the winters in Stockholm are not mild at all. However, it’s worth visiting during the cold season in order to see it in all its beauty, ‘in its own environment’ as one might say.

Când este acoperit de zăpadă și majoritatea suprafețelor de apă se transformă în patinoare sau locuri pentru pescuit la copcă, Stockholm arată ca un basm… nordic, bineînțeles.

When covered in snow and the water has turned into skating rinks or ice fishing areas, Stockholm resembles a fairy tale… by all means, a northern one.

Despre noaptea polară s-au tot spus nenumărate povești. Însă, trebuie să știți că pe timp de iarnă întunericul nu pune stapânire pe zi, cel puțin nu în totalitate. Pe timp de iarnă, în Stockholm există 6 ore de lumină, spre deosebire de zilele de vară când lumina persistă timp de 18 ore. În același timp, iarna nu aduce temperaturi extreme în Stockholm, decât rareori. În general, în Stockholm, temperaturile pe timp de iarnă sunt de -3°C, doar în condiții extreme ajung să scadă până la -20°C. Mulți dintre turiștii care vizitează țările nordice în plină iarnă sunt atrași în special de aurora boreală, care în țările nordice se vede cel mai bine între lunile noiembrie - aprilie. Însă, trebuie să știți că din Stockholm aceasta nu este vizibilă, decât atunci când au loc explozii solare puternice, dar capitala nordului reprezintă punctul de plecare pentru multe expediții care vânează „vânturile solare” ce se lovesc de atmosfera planetei.

Countless stories have been already told about the polar nights. You should know, though, that during wintertime, the night does not conquer the day, at least not totally. During winter, Stockholm enjoys 6 hours of daylight, compared to the summer months when there is an 18-hour day. At the same time, winter rarely brings any extreme temperatures in Stockholm, as generally the average temperatures are of -3°C and, under extreme circumstances, they might drop to -20°C. Many of the tourists visiting the Northern countries during winter are mainly attracted by the Northern Lights, which are best to be observed between November – April. However, it is good to know that Northern Lights are visible from Stockholm only when powerful solar explosions occur, but the capital of the North is the starting point for many adventures that try to capture the ‘solar winds’ that collide with the Earth’s atmosphere.

La târgurile de Crăciun suedeze puteți să mâncați pepparkakor (turtă dulce suedeză), să beți glögg (vin fiert), köttbullar (chifteluțe) sau hering murat, în timp ce vă încălziți la focuri din bușteni sau la felinare făcute din gheață.

An important part of the fairytale-like atmosphere is the Christmas markets: be it the most popular one, organised in Stortorget square, to the market in Gamla Stan, or perhaps the more expensive one, located in Skansen, the world’s first open-air museum, which hosts replicas of traditional buildings all over Sweden, as well as gardens and animals. In these Swedish Christmas fairs, you can eat pepparkakor (Swedish gingerbread), drink glögg (mulled wine), köttbullar (meatballs) or pickled herring, getting warm by the wood fires or ice-made lamps.

However, if the cold puts off your appetite for outdoor walks, even though the Swedes don’t stay indoors when the city is covered in snow, there are still plenty of interesting museums ready for you to enjoy: For example, the Vasa Museum is one of the most popular museums in Sweden, dedicated entirely to a ship from 1600, preserved with almost 98% of it still intact.

There is a special room here, where visitors experience the sensation of being hungover or very drunk. At the same time, the Spiritmuseum hosts one of the best restaurants in Stockholm. NY HAV N a port with old houses telling a beautiful story Nyhavn used to be a very crowded traders’ port, where vessels and ships all over the world came to berth and the meeting point for sailors and women of easy virtue. At present, Nyhavn hosts one of the oldest houses in Copenhagen, rehabilitated buildings turned into restaurants and cafes. At number 9 you can visit the oldest house in the city, built in 1681, which still preserves its original architecture. You can also see the house where the great Danish author Hans Christian Andersen wrote several of his best-known stories. During winter celebrations, the port becomes the place to be, as it lights up in thousands of little Christmas lights, the cafes serves all kinds of deli food and you can stop and admire a beautiful Christmas Fair.

Bakken is the world’s oldest amusement park, opened in 1583, which has been functioning uninterruptedly up to present day. Apart from the roller coasters, towers and all installations present in the park, Bakken is located in a green area, with luxurious vegetation - Jægersborg Dyrehave – just 10 km away from Copenhagen. You can enjoy a ride in the horse-drawn carriage or have a picnic in a great area surrounded by old trees and deer. Bakken is a place for all tastes, with peaceful and quiet areas as well as adrenalin-filled spots.

Christiania este una dintre cele mai interesante destinații din Copenhaga. Denumit și orașul liber, Christiania este o comunitate în cadrul capitalei, fostă bază militară transformată apoi de o mână de hipioți într-un cartier care se susține singur din ceea ce produc oamenii acolo. Christiania este locul libertăților, locul galeriilor de artă, al restaurantelor cu produse organice crescute de locuitori, al exprimărilor artistice în toate formele, o comunitate care reamintește de calitatea esențială a vieții: simplitatea. În Christiania trebuie să ajungi, mai ales la Morgenstedet, un mic local vegetarian cu mâncare produsă local, sau la Spiseloppen, un restaurant într-o fostă bază militară.

Christiania is one of the most interesting destinations in Copenhagen. Dubbed as Freetown, Christiania is a community inside Copenhagen, a former military base, later on turned by several hippies into a neighbourhood that supports itself with what people are producing there. Christiania is the place of freedom, art galleries, restaurants with organic products homegrown by the dwellers, of art in all its shapes and forms, a community reminding us of the life’s essential quality: simplicity. Christiania is a must-see, especially Morgenstedet, a small eatery with vegetarian locally produced food or Spiseloppen, a restaurant located in a former military base.

Grădinile Tivoli sunt epicentrul unei vizite în Copenhaga. Hans Christian Andersen venea aici ca să se inspire pentru scrierile sale, dar nici Walt Disney nu era străin zonei. Și e lesne de înțeles de ce: natură bogată, grădini în care să te relaxezi, parc de distracții (roller coaster-ul din lemn, din 1914, unul dintre cele 7 din lume care are un vatman la fiecare cursă), restaurante, arhitectură exotică, clădiri istorice, sală de concerte unde poți vedea musical-ul Hairspray. Tivoli, în sezonul rece, se transformă într-un loc feeric în care luminițele de Crăciun, târgul de iarnă și casele decorate de sărbătoare creează un peisaj de vis pentru orice vizitator.

„Mai e puţin şi bucla mea se închide şi odată cu ea pun şi eu pixul în cui. Îţi mulţumesc ţie, şi celor asemeni ţie, că m-aţi crezut. Încă nu realizez ce mi se întâmplă[...]”.

‘Just a little more and my circle comes to an end and with it I will give up writing. I thank you and all those like you for believing in me. I am yet to arrive at the realisation of what is happening to me [...]”.

Aşa îşi încheia Mihai Barbu acum 7 ani ultima scrisoare din „Vând kilometri”, istorisirea călătoriei pe motor până în Mongolia, ea însăşi rodul uneia dintre primele campanii de crowdfunding de pe la noi. De atunci familia s-a mai mărit cu un membru, iar în curte a apărut Zair, un motor cu ataş.

This is how Mihai ended, 7 years ago, his last letter from ‘Vand kilometri’, the story of his motorbike journey to Mongolia, which has been made possible due to one of the first Romanian crowdfunding campaigns. Since then, his family welcomed another member and a sidecar motorbike - Zair - found its place in their courtyard.

„Nu aş fi crezut la momentul acela, în 2009, că în 2016 o să mai vorbesc despre povestea asta. Mi se întâmplă, poate o dată la câteva zile, să primesc un mesaj sau un email... Şi cel mai frumos e când îmi ajunge la ureche că am inspirat oameni. Asta mi se pare cel mai mare câştig, mai ales că ăsta nu a fost un obiectiv al meu. Eu am vrut doar să mă duc până în Mongolia şi înapoi.”

‘At that time, in 2009, I would not have believed that in 2016 I would still be talking about that story. Every couple of days I happen to receive a text message or an email... The best thing is when I hear I inspired others. This is the most important achievement, mainly because it was not among my goals. I just wanted to travel to Mongolia and back’.

Iubeşte motoarele cu ardoarea cu care iubeşti ceva însufleţit. Le-a construit identitatea în jurul unui nume simbolic şi le tratează ca pe nişte prieteni. „Mie chiar mi se pare că motocicletele mele au grijă de mine. De asta de câte ori mai apare un motor nou ţin neapărat să aibă nume. Prima motocicletă a avut naş, pe următoarele două le-am botezat eu. Am o fată şi doi băieţi...de fier!” îmi spune râzând. Pe Doyle, motorul ce i-a fost tovarăş de drum până la Ulan Bator, l-a cumpărat în 2006. „La orice constatare pe care o făceam la motocicletă, mecanicul din Bucureşti îmi recomanda să o schimb. Şi uite-l pe Doyle că după 10 ani încă se mai descurcă onorabil.”

He loves his motorbikes with the same passion one loves a living being. He created their identities around a given name and he treats them as friends. ‘To me it seems that my bikes are taking care of me. Every time a new motorbike comes my way, I want it to have a name. My first bike had a godfather, the next two I baptised myself. I have a girl and two boys... made of iron!’ he says laughing. Doyle, the motorbike that accompanied him on his journey to Ulannbaatar, was bought in 2006. ‘Every time I went for the technical inspection, the mechanic was telling me to change it. And look at Doyle now, ten years later, it is still doing a great job’.

Cu Zair, noul venit, s-a acomodat destul de repede. Avea nevoie de încă un loc. Pentru Vladimir, fiul său. „Motocicletele cu ataş sunt precum caii sălbatici, total neplăcute la început, după care te cam îndrăgosteşti şi afecţiunea nu se mai opreşte. Sunt total pe dos faţă de orice altceva ai condus vreodată.”

He accustomed himself pretty quickly to Zair, the newcomer, as he needed another seat, for Vladimir - his son. ‘Sidecar motorbikes are like wild horses, totally uncomfortable at the beginning, but you are about to fall in love with them forever later on. They are a completely different thing from everything you have ridden before’.

În 2015 s-a gândit să îl scoată pe Zair la o tură „de încălzire” şi a revenit în România abia după ce a parcurs 28.000 de mii de kilometri şi 41 de ţări.

In 2015 he thought about taking Zair for a ‘warm-up’ ride and returned to Romania only after 28,000 kilometres

and 41 countries. ‘The last month in Mongolia was quite grim. I have had enough of the adventure; I was sick and tired of it and just wanted to get back home. I followed the route - Armenia, for instance, is a detour... I went there because that was the plan, but it did not mean that I was interested anymore. However, last summer we did not feel like going back home. I would have stayed four more months, as I had with me all I needed. I am sorry I did not write a book about that summer, but there is a simple reason: I was not aware we would do what we did, that is travelling for four months. If I had planned it, a book would have probably emerged, a book in which I would have urged Vladimir to speak, as he reached that age when he comes up with all kinds of lovely stuff ’. I ask him how this journey was seen through the eyes of his son. Seeing 41 countries with your parents in one vacation isn’t something that happens every day. He smiles: ‘I find it difficult to figure it out how Vladimir regarded the trip... Apart from the little ‘pearls’ during the journey, such as:

‘Are all the people in France called Bocu?’ ‘Why do you ask me this?’ ‘Well, this is what you say all the time: Merci, beaucoup!’ I am sure that his mind is still confused. I do not care if he remembered Germany’s capital city or what the name of the place where people were singing fado was. On the other hand, I would be very happy that he grows up believing that travelling is normal, and there are signals that he is heading that way’. To sell kilometres in order to finance, though partially, a journey, might strike you as a common idea, but in 2009 the crowd funding concept was not widespread in Romania. If this idea and those people who believed in my Mongolia-project had not existed, the story would not have been written, says Mihai. ‘After driving in the rain, on a bad road, after finally finding accommodation in a room with a broken door, no hot water and a broken toilet, the hardest thing is to start writing. But you have to do it every day. Even so, many things are lost. When you ride your motorbike and you are all by yourself, a lot of things cross your mind, some of them really great. But if you do not write them on the spot, you just forget them. The only solution for a book that would reflect 100% what I felt during my journey was to have a voice recorder... Moreover, after my laptop „Ultima lună de călătorie în Mongolia a fost cruntă. Îmi ajunsese aventura, eram saturat şi îmi doream doar să ajung acasă. M-am ţinut de traseu. Armenia, de exemplu, este un ocoliş...Am mers şi acolo pentru că aşa era planul făcut, dar nu înseamnă că mă mai interesa. Vara trecută însă noi n-am avut nici un chef să ne întoarcem acasă. Aş mai fi stat încă patru luni în formula aia, aveam tot ce îmi trebuia cu mine. Îmi pare tare rău că nu a existat o carte după vara trecută. Motivul este, totuşi, foarte simplu: eu nu ştiam că o să facem ce am făcut, că o să călătorim 4 luni. Probabil că dacă aş fi planificat treaba asta ar fi existat o carte în care eu l-aş fi tras pe Vladimir de limbă în fiecare zi, pentru că este la vârsta la care spune nişte lucruri delicioase.” Îl întreb cum s-a văzut călătoria asta prin ochii fiului lui. zilnic să vezi 41 de ţări într-un singur concediu cu părinţii. Zâmbeşte amuzat. „Îmi este foarte greu să îmi dau seama cum s-a văzut călătoria asta prin ochii lui Vladimir... În afară de micile „pastiluţe” de pe drum de genul: - Aici în Franţa pe toţi îi cheamă Bocu? - De ce spui asta? - Păi aşa le spui tu: Merci, beaucoup! sunt convins că în mintea lui, în continuare, este o nebuloasă. Nu mă interesează dacă a reţinut care e capitala Germaniei sau în ce ţară se cânta fado. Aş fi foarte bucuros în schimb, şi semnalele sunt că aşa ar fi, să crească cu crezul că a călători este ceva normal.” Să vinzi kilometri pentru a finanţa, chiar şi parţial, o călătorie poate părea o idee comună astăzi dar în 2009 conceptul de

crowdfunding nu era atât de răspândit în România. Dacă nu ar fi existat această idee şi oamenii care să creadă în proiectul Mongolia, povestea nu ar fi căpătat această formă scrisă, crede Mihai. „După ce mergi pe ploaie, drumul e prost şi găseşti o camera în care nu se închide uşa, la baie nu există apă caldă şi toaleta nu funcţionează, să deschizi laptopul să scrii este cel mai greu lucru. Şi trebuie să faci asta zilnic. Chiar şi aşa se pierde foarte mult. Când mergi cu motorul şi eşti singur, tu cu tine, îţi trec o sumedenie de gânduri prin cap. Inclusiv unele foarte mişto. Dar dacă nu le scrii pe loc, uiţi. Singura soluţie pentru o carte care să reflecte 100% ce am simţit eu acolo ar fi fost să am un reportofon... Mai mult, după ce s-a stricat laptopul a trebuit să scriu de mâna şi să transcriu acolo unde găseam un calculator. Le datorez foarte mult acestor oameni, fratelui meu şi celor care mi-au dat orbeşte 50 de euro ca să le scriu o scrisoare.” Să faci 28000 de kilometri pe motor poate părea o extravaganţă, pentru Mihai însă e ceva comun. Îmi povesteşte că la Nordkapp s-a întâlnit, într-o parcare, cu nişte români care ajunseseră până acolo cu maşina şi care s-au bucurat că „nu sunt singurii nebuni”. „Nu e nimeni nebun. E un punct pe hartă, unde se poate ajunge cu maşina, cu bicicleta, cu ce vrei tu. Asta nu aş vrea... să îl aud pe Vladimir spunând când a ajuns la... nu ştiu... Cape Agulhas: Mamă, ce nebun sunt!”

It is just a dot on the map where you can drive your car, ride your bike, etc. I would not want to hear Vladimir saying, for instance when he reaches Cape Agulhas: Oh boy, I’m such a nutcase!’

Proiectul Das Wiener Kindertheater a luat naștere în Oradea în 2006, iar în 2008 a fost înfiinţată asociația Teatrul Vienez de Copii - „Copiii joacă teatru”. Treptat asociația a început proiecte în Cluj, Sighetu Marmației și București. Trupa bucureşteană a debutat în octombrie 2009 cu spectacolul „Visul unei nopţi de vară” de William Shakespeare, copiii participând cu această piesă şi la Festivalul Internaţional de Teatru din Sibiu în 2010. Au urmat „Bolnavul închipuit” de Molière, „Gâlcevile din Chioggia” de Carlo Goldoni, „Risipitorul” de Ferdinand Raimund, „Puşculiţa” după Eugène Labiche, „A douăsprezecea noapte” de William Shakespeare, „Școlarii neastâmpărați” după Johann Nestroy, iar anul acesta au pus în scenă „Balul Hoților” de Jean Anouilh.

The Das Wiener Kindertheater project came to life in Oradea in 2006, and in 2008 the Vienna Children's Theatre – ‘Children play theatre’ association was established. Gradually, the association started projects in Cluj, Sighetu Marmatiei and Bucharest. The team in Bucharest started in October 2009 with the play of William Shakespeare, ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’, in which the children participated as well at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival in 2010. Then, followed Molière’s ‘The Imaginary Invalid’, Carlo Goldoni’s ‘The Chioggia Scuffles’, Ferdinand Raimund’s ‘The Spendthrift’, Eugène Labiche’s ‘The Piggy Bank’, William Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’, Johann Nestroy’s ‘Naughty Children’, and this year, they presented Jean Anouilh’s ‘Thieves' Carnival’.

Pe lângă producțiile anuale de spectacole, Teatrul Vienez de Copii este promotorul unor proiecte educaționale diverse, cel mai important fiind Iniţiativa Educaţională Naţională.

Besides the annual shows, the Vienna Children’s Theatre is the promoter of diverse educational projects, the most important one being The National Educational Initiative.

eatrul Vienez de Copii a fost fondat în 1994, de către actrița Sylvia Rotter. În timp s-a dezvoltat nu numai acest concept, ci şi metoda inovativă de predare a teatrului pentru copii, cunoscută astăzi drept „metoda Rotter”. Utilizând această metodă ei doresc să le inspire dragostea pentru teatru și limbaj tuturor copiilor noștri, indiferent de vârstă, naționalitate sau context social. Folosesc jocuri de improvizație și ritm, dans și texte din literatura clasică cu intenția de a modela niște adulți creativi, inspirați, entuziaști.

Educaţia artistică, în general, şi cea teatrală, în mod particular, în contextul învăţământului nevocaţional, s-a dovedit că facilitează învăţarea şi au reale contribuţii la dezvoltarea personalităţii. Arta teatrală presupune o activitate caracterizată de complexitate, astfel determinând un impact substanţial asupra abilităţilor: cognitive, motrice, emoţionale şi „Teatrul, sociale, ale individului implicat.

ienna Children's Theatre was founded in 1994 by Sylvia Rotter. Over time, not only this concept has developed, but also the innovative method of teaching theatre to children, known today as the ‘Rotter method’. While using this method, they wish to inspire love for theatre and language to all our children, regardless of their age, nationality or social context. They use improvisation and rhythm games, dancing and texts from classical literature, with the intention of shaping creative, inspired and enthusiastic adults.

In the context of non-vocational education, they proved that artistic education, theatrical in particular, facilitates learning and has real contributions to the development of one’s personality. Într-o Românie în care 53,5% dintre copii nu înțeleg ce citesc, 55% nu promovează examinările naționale și doar 2% din cei 60% elevi care studiază în mediul rural ajung la facultate, era nevoie de o asociație care să aibă drept crez promovarea lecturii în rândul tinerilor. Așa a luat ființă Asociația Curtea Veche, a cărei poveste vă invit să o aflăm împreună, chiar de la fondatoarea ei, doamna Iren Arsene.

ASOCIAŢIA ASSOCIATION Cum a luat ființă Asociația Curtea Veche și care este misiunea ei?

Am ajuns la acel moment în viață când am simțit că vreau să întorc comunității ceva din șansa, norocul sau experiența mea. Am vrut să mulțumesc profesorilor, mentorilor și școlii pentru că mi-au dat ocazia unei întâlniri potrivite cu cartea, o întâlnire care urma să fie definitivă. Am înființat Asociația Curtea Veche în urmă cu doi ani cu ideea de a mă îndrepta către cei care au cea mai mare nevoie de carte, și anume copiii. Scopul asociației completează strădaniile părinților și ale profesorilor să păstreze cititul în prim planul educației. Lectura de plăcere trebuie să ajungă un obicei al copiilor noștri, la fel ca mâncatul sau jucatul. Convingerea că prin lectură se dezvoltă cel mai armonios imaginația, comunicarea, legăturile în familie sau la școală m-a determinat să-mi pun toată energia, priceperea și echipa în acțiune pentru a forma o asociație eficientă, a cărei muncă poate fi evaluată în numărul de cărți citite de către copiii care nu aveau acest obicei format încă.

How did Curtea Veche Association come to life and what is its mission?

I have reached that point in my life when I felt I had to give back to my community a piece of my luck and my experience. I wanted to thank my teachers, mentors and my school for having given me the chance of a timely encounter with books, an encounter that would be conclusive. I founded Curtea Veche Association two years ago, as I wanted to support those who need education the most – that is, children. The goal of the association comes to complement the parents’ and teachers’ efforts in preserving reading as one of the most important parts in education. Reading for pleasure should become a habit in our children’s lives, just like playing or eating. I believe that reading helps the imagination and communication and also makes family or school relationships grow naturally and beautifully. This belief made me channel all my energy, skills and team to get into action and found an efficient association, whose work can be assessed in the number of books read by the kids who did not have this habit before.

What projects do you have in progress now?

În zonele rurale ajungem de cel puțin două ori pe lună, ne întâlnim cu copiii și cu liderii de opinie locali. Oferim fiecărui elev cel puțin o carte și mai apoi, alături de voluntari sau profesori, formăm un club de lectură. Lăsăm în urma noastră elevi și profesori care ne promit că vor citi.

We manage to get to rural areas at least twice every month and we meet children and local opinion leaders. We offer each student at least one book and later on, with the help of volunteers or teachers, we form a reading club. We leave in our

Activitatea și scopul nostru permanent sunt să donăm cât mai multe cărți copiilor și să ne asigurăm că sunt citite. Proiectele noastre au două direcții: către mediul rural și către mediul urban. Diferența între aceste școli este foarte mare.

În mediul urban organizăm festivalul de lectură Narativ, primul festival al cărții pentru copii din România; tocmai s-a încheiat a doua ediție la București și s-a bucurat de prezența a peste 2000 de copii. S-au desfășurat peste 100 de ateliere, cu pedagogi preocupați să treacă copiii prin clasele de teatru de umbre, muzică, regie de film și teatru, pictură, toate având la bază o carte. Îmi doresc ca acest festival să aibă replici în cât mai multe orașe din țară.

Povestiți-ne mai multe despre programul „Cărțile copilăriei”, derulat în școlile din România, alături de personalități importante și de asemenea, spuneți-ne care sunt planurile de viitor ale programului.

În România nu exista un program național de lectură care să poată fi o recomandare pentru părinți, un ghid clar după care aceștia să se poată orienta în educația copiilor. Cărțile copilăriei oferă acest program în trei trepte. Pentru clasele I-IV propunem o primă întâlnire cu autorii și cu personajele importante din literatura universală prin intermediul imaginilor, desenelor și a coloratului. Copiii din clasele gimnaziale au o primă întâlnire cu textul literar, într-o formă adaptată nivelului lor de înțelegere, ajungând să cunoască marile povești din literatura universală. Din păcate, există o discrepanță foarte mare în ceea ce privește pregătirea copiilor din mediul rural față de cei din mediul urban și se întâmplă uneori să întâlnim copii din clase mari care parcurg cu greu un text,

Our permanent activity and goal is to donate as many books as possible to children and to make sure they read them. Our projects are two-fold: one in the rural areas and another one in the urban ones. The difference between schools in these two sectors is quite poignant.

In the urban areas, we organise Narativ reading festival, the first reading festival for children in Romania; the second edition has just ended in Bucharest and witnessed the presence of over 2000 children. There were more than 100 workshops delivered, with teachers and trainers that joined the children in their journey through shadow theatre, music, film direction and painting classes, all of these being based on a book. I want this festival to be replicated in cities around the country.

Tell us more about the ‘Childhood Classics’ project, carried out in Romanian schools, together with important personalities and tell us what the plans for the future are regarding this project.

Romania does not have a national reading programme that can be recommended to parents, a clear-cut guide they could use when educating their children. Childhood Classics provides this programme in three stages. For the 1st – 4th grades, we set forth a first meeting with authors and main characters from universal literature through images, drawings and colouring books. Children in secondary schools are acquainted with the literary text in a form that is adapted to their own level of understanding, in the end being able to know the great world’s literary stories. Unfortunately, there is a huge discrepancy between the training received by kids in rural areas and those in urban areas and it happens to us to meet

întâlnim ceea ce se cheamă analfabetism funcțional. Dacă parcurgem aceste prime două etape, atunci avem cititori formați, capabili să parcurgă romanul în întregime, când ajung elevi la liceu. Fiecare vizită a noastră aduce în fața claselor o scurtă secvență de lectură susținută de un actor care are la bază dramatizarea și de asemenea, întâlnirea cu o persoană publică, un eventual model care subliniază importanța lecturii. Până acum i-am vizitat pe copii alături de: membrii ai Familiei Regale, George Ogăraru, Horia Brenciu, Loredana Groza, Dragoș Bucurenci, Marian Godină, Cornel Ilie, Horia Tecău sau Adrian Hădean.

Care credeți că sunt pilonii pe care trebuie să se bazeze și să crească generațiile viitoare?

N-am nicio îndoială că dacă cei mici reușesc să deprindă corect și la timp obiceiul lecturii vor putea să evite greșelile involuntare din educația primită. Lectura permanentizată în viața unui copil este baza suficientă, fundamentală și necesară a formării generațiilor viitoare. Suntem permanent asaltați, aproape agresați de multiplele canale de informare, dar dacă există o bază educațională corectă și coerentă, viitorul adult va reuși să își găsească propria cale. În caz contrar, dacă nu este pregătit, poate fi copleșit și din păcate poate pleca în direcții greșite, iar mai apoi o regândire a traseului și a carierei costă timp și bani.

Care este conexiunea pe care o vedeți între copii și lectură? Ce le oferă lectura acestora, în afara funcționalismului evident al alfabetizării?

Lectura dezvoltă creierul uman și mai ales pe cel al copiilor în maniera cea mai completă. Dacă reușim să ne obișnuim copiii să deprindă obiceiul lecturii, să citească 20-30 de minute în fiecare zi, atunci dezvoltarea lor spirituală și intelectuală este sigură; altminteri pot rămâne izolați, neadaptați, riscă să nu își descopere talentele sau să ajungă să nu facă în viață ceea ce le place. Lectura îi ajută să se cunoască, să își dezvolte imaginația, gândirea critică proprie și să își formeze opinii în legătură cu temele care îi interesează. Orice ar alege copilul să facă, e important să facă acel lucru bine, să tindă spre excelență.

Mai e puțin până când Moș Nicolae și Moș Crăciun vor poposi din nou în casele noastre cu daruri. Ce cărți ne recomandați pentru a fi dăruite, atât celor mici, cât și celor mari?

Întotdeauna trebuie să oferim cărți potrivite cu cel care urmează să se bucure de ele. Există suficient de multe opțiuni: literatură bună, cărțile de colorat pentru adulți, albume de artă sau cu fotografii, cartoline cu operele unui pictor sau cu locuri pitorești. Propun publicului albume despre Bran, despre Peleș, cărți despre Regina Maria sau despre mari sportivi români, monografii despre satele noastre săsești sau ungurești. Pentru copii recomand Cărțile copilăriei, o serie gândită special pentru ei.

If we manage to get through these two stages, then we will have trained readers, who are able to read the whole novel when they get to high school level. Each visit brings in front of the classroom a reading sketch performed by an actor who studied staging, and a meeting with a public figure, a possible role model that emphasises the importance of reading. So far, we visited the kids together with: Royal Family members, George Ogararu, Horia Brenciu, Loredana Groza, Dragos Bucurenci, Marian Godina, Cornel Ilie, Horia Tecau or Adrian Hadean.

What are the main pillars the future of our children would be based on?

I have little doubt that if the little ones manage to timely and correctly master the habit of reading, they will be able to avoid the involuntary mistakes of the education they receive. The habit of permanent reading in the life of a child is a solid foundation, a fundamental and necessary one for the future generations’ education. We are under constant and aggressive attacks from multiple

information channels, however, if there is the right educational foundation, the future adults will be able to find their own way. If not, they are not ready, they can be overwhelmed and may choose the wrong path and later on, to rethink their path and career may cost them a lot of time and money.

What is the connection between children and reading? What does reading do to children, apart from the obvious functionality of literacy?

Reading develops the human brain in the most complete manner, more so in kids. Should we manage to get our kids accustomed with reading, 20-30 minutes a day, then their spiritual and intellectual development is certain; otherwise, they can become isolated, not adapted, and run the risk of not being able to discover their talents or do what they like in their lives. Reading helps them to get to know themselves, develop their imagination, critical thinking and form opinions on the topics they are interested in. Anything the kid chooses to do, it is important that he/ she does it well, to try to do it perfectly.

Saint Nicholas and Santa Claus are just around the corner. What books would you recommend as gifts, both for grown-ups and kids?

We always have to offer the right books to the person who is about to enjoy them. There are plenty of options: good literature, adult colouring books, art or photo albums, books with the paintings of a famous painter or picturesque

landscapes. I suggest albums on Bran, Peles, books on Queen Mary or great Romanian sports people, monographs about our Hungarian or Transylvanian Saxons villages. For kids I recommend Childhood Classics, a series that was compiled especially for them.

What are the most recent three books you have read? Do you read while you are flying?

I always travel with printed books in my luggage. During my last journey to Frankfurt I had Fernando Vallejo’ La virgen de los sicarios. Another beloved book is Nights of salamanders by Evelin Kovacs, which we are currently preparing. At the same time, I always have with me a book on personal development and I prefer the books of writers published by our publishing house, such as Daniel Goleman, Dalai Lama or Roy Martinez.

Let us end this interview with a call to action. How can our readers get involved in your association’s initiatives?

Even if you do not do anything for our association, one big request and one essential need of our society would be that each parent does everything in his/her power to raise a child that reads. La începutul anului trecut a apărut chiar și un documentar despre talentul ieșit din comun al lui Flaviu: Transylvania Dragon, îl găsiți pe YouTube și nu vă va lăsa indiferenți. De asemenea, Flaviu a ajuns în 2012 până în semifinalele emisiunii Românii au Talent.

Printre acrobațiile lui Flaviu se numără: • Salina Turda, traversată de Flaviu Cernescu la o înălțime de 80 de metri. • A traversat Transfăgărășanul pe o coardă de slackline, de doar 2,5 cm lățime, la o înălțime de 15 metri. În tot acest timp, circulația nu a fost oprită, așa că pe sub el au tot trecut mașini. • Arsenal Park Orăștie, unde Flaviu a efectuat o plimbare cu un monociclu pe marginea unui turn de apă cu înălțimea de 40 de metri. • A escaladat cel mai înalt turn de fum din Europa, aflat în Slovenia, la termocentrala din Trbovlje, având o înălțime de 365 de metri. • Coșul de fum de la CET Târgu Jiu, cu o înălțime de 250 de metri, escaladat fără echipament de protecție. Among Flaviu’s stunts: • Turda Saltmine that Flaviu Cernescu crossed at a height of 80 metres. • He crossed the Transfagarasan road with a slackline webbing ( 2.5cm wide) at a 15m height. Multora li se face rău doar când privesc înregistrările tale. Cum ai dezvoltat această pasiune, dar, mai ales, cum ai dezvoltat curajul pentru a face așa ceva?

Many people just feel sick by looking at your stunts. Where does this passion come from and how do you pluck up your courage to do these things?

De mic am fost uimit de acrobații și de persoanele care păreau că sfidează verosimilul. Îmi aduc aminte cât de fascinat am fost când am aflat de Alain Robert (Spiderman-ul francez, care urcă pe clădiri fără echipament de siguranță), de Philippe Petit (cel după a cărui viață a fost făcut filmul Man on Wire) și de multe alte persoane asemănătoare.

Această fascinație a mea pentru acrobații și pentru cascadorii mai exotice s-a conturat în mișcarea pe care o practic astăzi. Curajul vine prin dorință, exercițiu și familiarizare cu domeniul de interes.

Este imposibil să nu-ți fie frică, măcar un pic, mai ales când mergi pe un monociclu pe buza unui furnal de câteva sute de metri înălțime. Cum reușești să-ți controlezi frica și să rămâi stăpân pe tine? Frică îmi este mereu. Însă, încerc să balansez optim mișcarea în raport cu frica, pentru ca aceasta să rămână în cote „plăcute” / suportabile. Aici mă inspir mai ales din conceptul de „sweet discomfort” din yoga. După cum spuneam, prin repetiție bine dozată, putem obține toleranță la anumiți stimuli. Astfel, frica devine rezonabilă.

Bănuiesc că nu trăiești din “cascadoriile” tale. Ce meserie ai și cum se împacă ea cu această pasiune extremă?

Până în urmă cu aproape 3 ani am lucrat ca programator la o multinațională. Acumulasem 6 ani de muncă de birou și am simțit nevoia unei schimbări substanțiale. Mi-am dat demisia și am căutat să mă implic în tot felul de proiecte legate de mișcarea care oricum îmi ocupa tot timpul liber. Astfel, pot spune că ultimii 3 ani au fost plini de peripeții. Contrar așteptărilor, am reușit să exist fără un serviciu uzual. Privind înapoi, pot spune că sunt încântat de alegerea făcută!

Care este cascadoria care ți-a dat cele mai mari emoții sau satisfacții?

Fiecare aventură mai amplă mi-a dat atât emoții, cât și satisfacții greu de pus în câteva cuvinte. Aventura profundă nu are grade de comparație, dar, dacă e să dau totuși un răspuns, atunci aș spune tura cu monociclul pe balustrada barajului Vidraru (pe o bordură de 20 de centimetri lățime, la 166 de metri înălțime) sau Highline-ul dintre coșurile de la UCMR din Reșița (filmat pentru Transylvania Dragon).

Acrobatics and people defying reality astonished me since I was a kid. I remember I was flabbergasted when I learned about Alain Robert (French Spiderman, climbing without safety equipment), about Philippe Petit (the person whose life inspired the Man on Wire film) and many others.

„M-am speriat puțin când am văzut că intră soarele în nori și se așează ceața. La un moment dat nu mai vedeam orașul absolut deloc. Curentul varia, cum intra soarele în nori, cum creștea curentul. Era frig, asta a fost cea mai mare problemă, mi-au înghețat mâinile urcând pe exteriorul structurii. Lumea se vede foarte frumos, înălțimea pune în valoare lucrurile într-un mod de ansamblu care mie îmi place”, a declarat Flaviu Cernescu despre escaladarea Crucii Eroilor Neamului (cu o înălțime de 36m și aflată la o altitudine de 2291m) pentru emisiunea Exclusiv în România.

This fascination of exotic stunts and acrobatics influenced the way I perform today. The courage comes from the passion, exercise and accustoming oneself with the field of interest.

Not being afraid is impossible, at least a bit, especially when you ride a unicycle on the edge of a furnace at an altitude of hundreds of metres. How do you manage to control and contain it?

I am always afraid. However, I try to optimally average out the movement with the fear, so that the latter remains at ‘pleasant’ / bearable levels. I am using the ‘sweet discomfort’ yoga concept. We can achieve tolerance to certain stimuli through wellbalanced repetitions and thus fear becomes moderate.

I presume you do not make a living out of your stunts. What is your job and how do you combine it with your extreme passion?

Until 3 years ago, I used to be a programmer in a multinational company. I had spent almost 6 years working in an office and I felt the need to make a serious change. I resigned

and I tried to get involved in all kinds of projects related to body movement, which was basically taking up almost my entire time. Therefore, I can honestly say that in the past 3 years I had adventures galore. Against all expectations, I managed to survive without a proper job. Looking back, I can say that I am pretty happy with the choice I have made!

What is the stunt that triggered the biggest satisfactions or emotions?

Each larger-scale adventure brought both satisfactions and emotions and it is difficult to translate them into words. The profound adventure does not have a comparative degree, but if I must give an answer I would choose the unicycle ride on Vidraru Dam’s outer parapet (on an edge of 20 cm width at 166-metre height) or the highline among the UCMR’s chimneys in Resita (filmed for Transylvania Dragon).

You have several videos on Bear Grylls’ You Tube channel (Bear Grylls Adventure). How did you end up there?

În decursul timpului am ajuns să corespondez cu diverși oameni de aventură și diferite canale de distribuție media. Canalul lui Bear Grylls a fost deschis spre genul meu de aventură și astfel am avut câteva preluări.

Te tentează să încerci și alte sporturi extreme, cum ar fi BASE Jumping-ul, de exemplu?

Da, cochetez de mult cu atleți din sporturi conexe preocupărilor mele. Rămâne de văzut cât de mult voi reuși să mă implic în ele. Întotdeauna apare o limitare legată de timp și bani.

Escaladările tale ți-au adus vreodată probleme cu legea? De exemplu, cât de legal a fost să escaladezi Crucea Eroilor Neamului?

Am avut câteva mici incidente legate de escaladarea unor turnuri, dar orice probleme pot fi ameliorate dacă se folosește atitudinea corespunzătoare. Legat de Crucea Eroilor Neamului, am escaladat-o în cadrul unui eveniment aprobat de primăria din Bușteni și filmat de o echipă de profesioniști TVR1 și Transylvania Dragon.

‘I got scared when I saw that the sky hides under the clouds and the fog takes over. At a certain point, I was unable to see the city below me. The wind blew inconsistently, the moment the sun disappeared, the wind started. The biggest problem was the cold; my hands were frozen on the metal rails. The world is quite beautiful from above, the height puts things into a perspective that I like’, says Flaviu Cernescu on free climbing the Heroes’ Cross (36-metre tall structure at an 2291-metre altitude) for the show Exclusiv în România

I met various adrenaline junkies over time and ended up corresponding with various people and media distribution channels. Bear Grylls’ channel was open to my style of adventures and they shared some of my videos.

Are you tempted by other extreme sports, such as BASE Jumping for instance?

Yes, I toy with the idea of taking up other similar sports, but only time will tell how seriously I will get involved. There is always a limit imposed by time and money.

Has your climbing ever got you in trouble with the law? For instance, was it legal to climb the Heroes’ Cross?

I had some incidents related to climbing some towers, but all the issues can be settled if you use the right approach. Regarding the Heroes’ Cross, I climbed it during an event approved by the Busteni City Hall and filmed by a TVR 1 and Transylvania Dragon professionals.

„VOCEA” DIN SPATELE DIFUZOARELOR Diana Ciobotea

u e cântăreț, dar îl auzi la radio. Nu concurează la show-uri de talente, dar îi vezi scenariile cum prind contur în cadrul lor. Vocea lui e acolo și în pauzele publicitare, iar de vei schimba canalul pe desene animate, s-ar putea să-i recunoști timbrul vocal ascuns în spatele celor mai simpatice personaje. El este Bogdan Nicolai și vocea este punctul lui forte. Se califică aici și vocea interioară, care îi dictează pas cu pas cariera începută la vârsta la care majoritatea tinerilor abia își scot buletinul.

Cum a început totul? Cum ai ajuns vocea de la radio și cum a fost primul tău live?

M-au îmbarcat pentru că li s-a părut că sunt haios. Avionul era unul mic, Mix FM Sinaia. Aveam 14 ani când am fost „în aer” pentru prima dată și, de atunci, nu am mai coborât la sol. Prima emisiune a fost și primul meu live, căci așa e la radio, mai rar treci pe pilot automat. Nu mi-a fost greu. Mai dificil a fost când am înțeles cu adevărat ce înseamnă să faci radio profesionist și câte reguli, softuri și butoane trebuie să stăpânești.

Faci tot felul de lucruri - unde te simți cel mai bine: radio, TV, presă scrisă, emisiuni online, voice over sau MC?

Tot ceea ce fac se bazează pe scris, iar radioul, televiziunea, blog-ul și toate celelalte sunt numai canale prin care îmi transmit mesajul și glumele. Eu sunt același peste tot.

Ce sfaturi ai pentru tinerii aflați la început de carieră în media astfel încât să fie una de succes? Dacă ești la început de drum, pregătește-te pentru câțiva ani buni de lucrat aproape pe degeaba. Răbdare, răbdare, răbdare. E un joc al

BOGDAN răbdării. Nimic nu se întâmplă când vrei tu. Ochii larg deschiși, capul sus, coloana dreaptă și așteaptă fără să te compromiți. În media, compromisul nu este relativ. El este clar definit: nu lucra pentru moguli care au turnat la Securitate, evită presa mondenă, nu-ți face blog pentru mocangeli... Sunt sigur că ai înțeles unde bat.

Cum e să dai viață unor personaje de desene animate?

Ai lucrat ani la rândul la matinalul unui post de radio. Cum arată pentru tine un matinal de radio bun? Cât la sută muzică și cât la sută vorbe? Ce fel de subiecte trebuie să abordeze DJ-ul – știind că este greu să nu intri în derizoriu la genul acesta de emisiune?

Care sunt modelele tale dintre personalitățile din media la nivel mondial?

Nu m-am întrebat niciodată în ce procent trebuie să fie muzică în comparație cu vorbele. Cât despre subiecte... întreabă-te în primul rând pe tine ce ai vrea să asculți dimineața în drum spre birou. Oamenii empatizează când le povestești despre viața ta, când văd că ai aceleași probleme ca și ei, când le vorbești despre bani, despre animale, despre copii, despre viața de cuplu etc. Dimineața sunt de evitat subiectele triste, sentimentele de ură și de frustrare. Omul trebuie să înceapă o nouă zi cu zâmbetul pe buze.

Nu fac asta de multă vreme. Dau voci în limba franceză pentru personajele unui serial de animație, produs de polonezi și difuzat în Franța. E frumos, în general, să le dai viață unor personaje. Lumea încă mă întreabă de Bunicu și de Nic Fișic, celebrele mele personaje de la matinal.

Sunt foarte mulți care îmi plac. Primul care îmi vine acum în minte este Richard Hammond.

Cum te vezi din punct de vedere profesional peste 10 ani?

Sper să depind cât mai puțin de trusturile media. Deși nu par, ele sunt tot corporații, iar mie nu îmi place designul social impus de corporații.

Ce piese conține playlistul tău de zbor?

Atunci când nu sunt rugat să închid iPod-ul, deși nu este conectat la internet, ascult Carl Craig, Solomun, Etiene de Crecy, Fever Ray, DJ Shadow, deadmau5, Silent Strike, Alchemist și alte ciudățenii cu puține voci.

„THE VOICE” BEHIND THE SPEAKERS

e is not a singer, but you hear him on the radio. He does not compete in talent shows, but you see how his scripts take shape in their performances. His voice is in the commercial breaks and should you switch on a cartoon channel, you might recognise his voice hidden behind the most lovable cartoon characters. He is Bogdan Nicolai and his strength is his voice. His other strength is his inner voice, as this is what dictates his career that started at an age when most of the young people have only entered adolescence.

How did everything start? How did you become the voice on the radio and how was your first live session?

They took me onboard because they thought I was funny. There was a small plane - Mix FM Sinaia. I was 14 years old when I was ‘on air’ for the first time and my feet haven’t touched the ground since. The first show was also my first live session, as this is how life on air is; you rarely switch on autopilot. However, it was not difficult, more difficult was when I really understood what professional radio means and how many rules, software and buttons you need to master.

You do all kinds of things – where do you like it better: on radio, on TV, in the written media, online shows, voice over or MC?

Everything that I do is based on writing, and the radio, television, blog and all the others are just the channels through which I send my message and jokes. I am the same everywhere.

What advice would you give young people starting their media careers in order to be successful?

If you are at the beginning of the journey, then you should prepare for a couple of years of working for free. Patience, patience and patience again. It is all

about patience. Nothing happens when you want it to happen. Keep your eyes wide open, head up, keep your spine straight and just wait without making compromises. In the media sector, compromise is not relative; it is clearly defined: do not work for media moguls who have snitched to the State Security in the past, stay away from the tabloids, and do not write a blog for the freebies... I am sure you understood what I mean.

You have worked for the morning show of a certain radio station for many years. How does a good morning show look like to you? What is the balance between music and words? What kind of topics should the DJ tackle – knowing that it is difficult not to become ordinary in this type of shows?

I have never asked myself about the balance between music and words. As for the topics... first ask yourself what you would like to listen to in the morning, on your way to the office. People relate to you easier, when you tell them about your life, when they see that you have the same problems they have, when you talk to them about money, animals, children, life as a couple, etc. Usually, in the morning shows you should avoid talking about sad topics, hate and frustration. People should start their day with a smile on their faces.

How does it feel to bring cartoon characters to life? I have not been doing this for such a long time. I speak in French to give life to the cartoon characters of a series produced in Poland and broadcast in France. It is great, people are still asking me about Bunicu and Nic Fisic, my famous characters in my morning radio show.

What are your media role models?

There are many people, but the first name that springs to my mind is Richard Hammond.

Where do you see your professional self in 10 years from now?

I hope to become less and less dependant on the media trusts. They are corporations after all, though they do not seem like ones, and I do not like the social design corporations impose.

What songs do you have on your flight playlist? When I am not asked to turn off my iPod, despite it does not have an Internet connection, I listen to Carl Craig, Solomun, Etiene de Crecy, Fever Ray, DJ Shadow, deadmau5, Silent Strike, Alchemist and other weird stuff with few voices in them.

Pe lângă deschiderea a patru noi rute, Blue Air va transporta peste 120,000 de pasageri anual și va crea noi locuri de muncă în zonă. The Boeing B737-800 aircraft places Blue Air in third place among the carriers operating on Liverpool Airport, and will open access to – Rome, Milan, Alicante and Hamburg – allowing Liverpool citizens to travel more and tourists to discover UK’s friendliest city.

Aeronava Boeing 737-800 poziţionată aici plasează Blue Air pe poziția a treia în clasamentul companiilor aeriene prezente în Liverpool, și va opera zboruri către – Roma, Milano, Alicante şi Hamburg – permițând locuitorilor din Liverpool să călătoreasca mai mult, iar turiștilor să descopere cel mai prietenos oraş din Marea Britanie. Al cincilea oraș ca mărime din UK, cu o populație de peste 2,2 milioane locuitori, Liverpool este plin de istorie, cultură şi numeroase clădiri ce fac parte din Patrimoniul Mondial UNESCO. Este oraşul formaţiei The Beatles, al F.C. Liverpool, toate acestea, dar şi multe altele îl recomandă ca destinație, fie ea de vacanță sau de afaceri. „Aeroportul Liverpool are un rol important în dezvoltarea economică a orașului, contribuind la economia locală cu 300 milioane de lire și generând 4,750 locuri de muncă. Decizia Blue Air de a baza una dintre aeronavele sale în Liverpool va da cu siguranță un impuls adițional economiei locale.

Echipa aeroportului Liverpool a colaborat strâns cu Blue Air pentru a face posibil acest parteneriat, analizând potențialul reprezentat de noile rute propuse, și intenționând să le determine să devină cel puțin la fel de importante ca și celelalte rute deservite deja de Blue Air.
