Dear Premier Club Members, The Passover and Easter holidays really opened my eyes to just how much the Resort & Club has grown and evolved. We had amazing turnout for our Passover dinners, the Easter Egg Hunt, and events like the Grand Easter Brunch that we only started a few years ago. I noticed many multi-generational family holiday celebrations, which means that more and more families are making the Club an integral part of their lives and choosing to mark important personal moments and milestones with us. The Resort & Club has become the place to be not only for the holidays, but even during the summer months. Summer days at the Club are no longer quiet as in the past – now we are sustaining a high level of activity year-round. To begin with, Memorial Day weekend is full of entertainment for Members and guests, with activities for all ages. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band are heading up Lobsterbash, and NYC Fashion DJ and Artist-in-Residence Leslie Kirchhoff will spin all weekend at venues across the resort, including Under the Stars at Beaches Bar. We’ve also introduced some new family programming for the summer. Parents’ Night Out kicks off on Memorial Day weekend, on both Friday and Saturday nights. Parents enjoy adult-only time, while kids get dinner, music, games, crafts, and a movie. And every Saturday night this summer, families can cool off at our Frozen Floats pool series, with inner tubes, music, games, and Italian ices. Our annual summer Quest Club, Golf, and Tennis Camps soon get underway as well – if you haven’t registered your young people yet, there’s still time. Looking ahead a bit… leading up to the Fourth of July, we’ll be hosting a weeklong Singer-Songwriters Experience featuring workshops, seminars, and live performances across the resort. Our annual Stars and Stripes BBQ concert takes place on Monday, July 3. This year’s version will feature Ed Roland (former lead singer of Collective Soul) and The Sweet Tea Project, playing both new hits and classics. Last but most definitely not least: Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14. As usual, there are plenty of dining options, both at the Club and in several of our restaurants, so you can choose the atmosphere and cuisine that best suit your Mom’s (or Grandma’s) preferences. I wish all of you and the Moms in your life a Happy Mother’s Day!

Kentucky Derby Party Saturday, May 6 | The race goes off at 6:34 pm, but the fun starts at 4 pm Head to Bar Luna for the two most exciting minutes in sports – and for a party fit for the Sport of Kings. Summer Stunners Here, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club we are truly blessed to not only be the proud custodians of a spectacular historical building but to be surrounded by a vast expanse of tropical landscaping containing an abundance of interesting and colorful plants.

A number of our plants are native to South Florida; others originate in South East Asia, Africa, Australasia and other far flung reaches of the earth. Our local climate – with its warm winters, heavy rainfall and almost continuous sunshine – offers the perfect growing conditions for a diverse range of tropical flora. Many of the plants you find growing in our grounds are perfect candidates for the patios, decks and yards of your homes – and this happens to be a great time to contemplate new additions to your landscaping. To brighten up a shady corner, consider foliage plants with bold colored leaves. Aglaonema “Silver Bay” is a great example. With broad oval leaves as much as 5 inches wide, the foliage provides a vibrant flash of silver with a green edge to each leaf. On maturity, this plant can reach 24 inches by 24 inches, given the correct growing conditions. It prefers a shady position and can tolerate dry or moist soil. For best results, allow the soil to dry a little before watering. A tree that is certainly worth considering planting is the White Champaca (Michelia x alba). This tree blooms with a wonderfully fragrant flower all year round. The plant is never fully loaded with flowers but, incredibly it seems, there are always blooms to be found. It is not the visual impact of the flowers but the fragrance that is so intoxicating and appealing. White Champaca is an evergreen with magnificent glossy leaves and is a fast grower, reaching up to 25 feet in height in 8-10 years. Because of its compact form, require regular pruning and trimming are not required. Plant this tree in sun or partial shade in an area that is relatively free-draining as the White Champaca does not like its roots sitting in water for too long. Fertilize once a year with a 15:15:15 mix and then sit back and enjoy the scent! A beautiful and interesting vine that blooms through spring and early summer is the “Green Jade Vine” (Strongylodon macrobotrys). This fast grower is a superb candidate to spread over a pergola or trellis. The striking luminous, blue-green flowers hang down in long trusses that can reach up to 3 feet. Plant this stunning vine in full or partial sun in a free-draining soil. The plant needs to establish a good vegetative mass before it flowers but, once you reach this point, you will never get tired of the spectacular flowers. Trisha Cicero’s fitness journey began when she took her first karate class. She was only 7 years old at the time. By the time she was 24, she had earned her 5th degree Black Belt. Trisha has been training in the martial arts for more than 22 years now – and for the past 15 of those years, she has been teaching martial arts to children and adults of all ages. In addition to karate, she has studied krav maga, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jui Jitsu.
For the last five years, she has been passionate about helping her clients through a well-rounded approach to fitness and nutrition. Trisha became a Certified Personal Trainer through the International Sports Science Association. She is also a Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist. You may have seen Trisha at the Health Club. She has been a personal trainer and group exercise instructor at the Resort & Club for almost three years. Her clients will tell you, she enjoys combining her martial arts background with her in-depth knowledge of fitness to create a unique training experience.

A Camp for Everyone!
A typical day at Quest Club Summer Camp will include hands-on activities and recreation every morning and every afternoon. We’ll keep mixing things up – offering different activities each day of the week and at alternate times of day to fit summer travel schedules. With scenic locations on the docks of Lake Boca or the sands of the Boca Beach Club (weather permitting, of course), no one will have lunch with a better view! And each week, the kids will enjoy an outing to one of a variety of nearby fun-spots, like the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Cinemark Palace movie theater, Boomers, Monkey Joe’s – the home of fun-filled inflatable play – and Strikes @ Boca bowling among others. For four fantastic days, the Resort & Club will host a series of singer/songwriter seminars, workshops and performances featuring the members of the Sweet Tea Project, including: Collective Soul front man Ed Roland with hits like “Shine, ” “December,” “The World I Know” and Bassist Brian Bisky | Banjo and trumpet player Christopher Alan Yates | Guitarist Jesse Tripplet | Drummer Mike Rizzi These talented musicians will share their talents and their insights as they lead workshops and perform – singularly and together – at venues throughout the Resort & Club, culminating in a spectacular Independence Day concert and celebration!

Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project
Named after the drink that is a cultural trademark of the band’s home region, Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project began serendipitously when the veteran singer/songwriter, on hiatus from his Collective Soul activities, began reconnecting with the rich club and coffeehouse scene in Atlanta. On random nights, Roland would invite popular local musicians to his house to jam on tunes he had written, but that reached outside the stylistic jurisdiction of Collective Soul. “Going to Birmingham,” one of the highlights from the Sweet Tea debut album Devils ‘n Darlins’– a song that Roland penned on the ukulele – is a prime example. Roland enjoyed the loose homespun atmosphere, especially the unexpected energy of co-writing new songs with some of these musician friends. As the casual Sweet Tea jams took shape, bassist Brian Bisky and Christopher Alan Yates, who plays banjo and trumpet, were among the most frequent visitors. Guitarist Jesse Tripplet and drummer Mike Rizzi round out the lineup of Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project. What may have started as a magical, engaging one-off project when Roland was taking some time off from Collective Soul, is evolving into a powerhouse recording and touring unit. Fans can look forward to a second album from Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project soon. Alder Lane Farm is slated for release in 2017.
