Dear Premier Club Members, IT’S ALWAYS EXCITING WHEN WE EMBARK ON THE NEW CLUB MEMBER SEASON here at the Resort and Club, and this year is no exception. We’re kicking off fall with the fabulous Liverpool Legends concert, a tribute Beatles band, many Halloween festivities, the launch of our new season of Corks & Conversations, and much more for adults and families. We’re thrilled to partner with Justin Baldwin of JUSTIN Winery once again for our launch of this season’s Corks & Conversations series as part of our Artist-in-Residence program. It will be a wonderful evening with a five-course dinner prepared by SeaGrille Chef Jordan Lerman blended with some of JUSTIN Winery’s award-winning wines. And we’ve lined up spectacular winemakers from around the world for upcoming Corks & Conversations wine dinners as well, so stay tuned. As we look to Thanksgiving weekend, we have plenty of curated fitness and wellness experiences with featured Artists in Residence at the Club. Particularly notable, we’re partnering with Orangetheory Fitness for their 18th annual Half Marathon and 5K race, which is the largest half-marathon in Boca Raton. The holiday weekend will showcase a collection of culinary, mixology and fashion pop-ins in addition to fitness and water sports programming. I hope you all will join me in the race and will partake in the many unique experiences around the Resort. Finally, a big congratulations to our resident Executive Chef, Andrew Roenbeck. Chef Andrew is a recipient of the Hilton Chef of the Year Award, one of Hilton’s most prestigious honors given to him during the Hilton Curate Food & Beverage Conference recently hosted here on our grounds. I know many of you appreciate Chef’s fine work, so I hope you’ll join me in congratulating him and wishing him many more award-winning years to come!

SALAD INGREDIENTS 2 Hass avocados 2 cups cooked and cleaned conch, chopped finely 2 teaspoons Scotch bonnet peppers, finely chopped Lime juice – to taste 1 lime zest 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped 1/4 cup mayonnaise 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1 cup corn nuts 1/4 cup cilantro, finely chopped BLOODY MARY SAUCE INGREDIENTS 3 1/2 cups tomato juice 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce 3 tablespoons olive juice 1 teaspoon celery seed 3 tablespoons horseradish, drained 1 1/2 tablespoons BBQ sauce 1 pinch cayenne pepper Salt – to taste Pepper – to taste

DIRECTIONS Mix the conch, cilantro, scotch bonnets, red onion, mayonnaise, olive oil and lime zest together. Season with salt and lime juice. In a separate bowl, combine all Bloody Mary Sauce ingredients and mix together using a hand blender. Allow the mixture to sit for three hours. Strain the Bloody Mary mixture using a fine strainer. Set the liquid aside. Place the sliced avocado in a thin layer across a new bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and season with sea salt. Add the Conch Salad to the avocado-lined bowl. Drizzle with Bloody Mary Sauce and garnish with corn nuts.

YOGA HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY POPULAR as a form of physical exercise to promote improved control of mind and body and overall well-being. For many, yoga provides a retreat from their hectic and chaotic lives, regardless if practicing postures on a mat in the bedroom, in a health club or the local park. Yoga provides many mental and physical benefits, some of which even extend to eating. Improves Body Image Yoga helps you focus on your body’s abilities at the present moment. As you focus on your breathing to strengthen your mind and body, attention is not on your physical appearance. Even so, according to the Harvard Medical School, surveys have found that those who practiced yoga were more aware of their bodies than people who didn’t practice yoga. They were also more satisfied with and less critical of their bodies. For these reasons, yoga has become an integral part in the treatment of eating disorders and programs that promote positive body image and self-esteem. Promotes Mindful Eating According to the Harvard Medical School, researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood. People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compare to those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attribute this to mindfulness, which can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating. Enhances Overall Fitness Yoga is known to soothe tension and anxiety in the mind and body, but it can also have an impact on a person’s exercise capacity. Researchers studied a small group of sedentary individuals who had not practiced yoga before. After eight weeks of practicing yoga at least twice a week for a total of 180 minutes, participants had greater muscle strength and endurance, flexibility and cardio-respiratory fitness.

Heart Benefits Several small studies have found yoga to have a positive effect on cardiovascular risk factors in helping lower blood pressure in people who have hypertension. Another study found improved lipid profiles in healthy patients as well as patients with known coronary artery disease. It lowered excessive blood sugar levels in people with non-insulin dependent diabetes and reduced their need for medications. Researchers are also studying if yoga can help people with depression and arthritis, and improve survival from cancer. Before you start a new exercise program, be sure to check with your doctor. Relieves Anxiety Studies of a wide range of yoga practices suggest it can reduce the impact of exaggerated stress responses and may be helpful for both anxiety and depression. By reducing perceived stress and anxiety, yoga appears to modulate stress response systems which, for example, reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and eases respiration. There is also evidence that yoga practices help increase heart rate variability, an indicator of the body’s ability to respond to stress more flexibly.

Q&A GET TO KNOW DR. MARTIN G. BLOOM, THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF the biostation, A NEW COMPREHENSIVE WELLNESS CENTER LOCATED AT BOCA RATON RESORT & CLUB. Q: Let’s start from the beginning. Can you tell us about your journey into co-founding the biostation? A: My story starts 40 years ago when I moved from Miami to Boca Raton to practice cardiology. I spent years dealing with people who already had developed multiple-system disease. I was merely treating the symptoms they presented rather than the underlying cause. Eventually, I started to incorporate alternative medicine into my cardiology practice and grew passionate about this form of treatment. When my son, Ross, and his friend, Keith, approached me to discuss opening up the biostation, I jumped at the idea. I then began the journey of completing a fellowship program with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Upon completion, we started the journey towards rejuvenation. Q: the biostation is described as a comprehensive, individualized, scientific approach to wellness for men and women. Can you please discuss what this means and the services that you offer? A: We start with a comprehensive overview of the patient’s medical history followed by a physical, comprehensive lab testing, and extensive cardiac risk profile. Our initial testing includes blood count, kidney, liver, pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, and sex hormones. With the other providers in the practice, I then sit down with the patient and review the lab data from A to Z. A list of recommendations is made based on the results of the testing. The recommendations are individualized for that particular patient’s needs. This means that we can pinpoint the root of the problems and treat the basic cause rather than the symptoms. We offer an array of services including supplementation advice, vitamin therapy and hormone management, which includes bioidentical hormones for both men and women as well as the treatment of other glandular issues. We also offer nutraceuticals of various varieties to replenish and restore the body so as to optimize the functions. the biostation also offers services, including CoolSculpting, ThermiVa, and injectables.

Q: Where will you be located within the Resort and are there any unique offerings for this location? A: We are located at the west end of the lobby. At the Resort, we will offer all of our core services including aesthetics, supplementation, vitamin therapy and hormone management. Q: Seeing your patients’ health improve must be a rewarding part of this job. Can you share a few patient success stories with us? A: Since practicing functional medicine, we have developed a group of patients motivated to help themselves, which is of paramount importance. It brings me great pleasure when returning patients tell me how much better they feel. I can share with you what one woman told me on a return visit. She said, “You know Doctor, I did not realize what a deep, dark place I was in until you balanced my hormones and I felt so much better.” She then went on to say that she never wants to go back to that place again. She also told me that her husband thanks me for giving him back his wife. Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us about the biostation and your team? A: the biostation has been a great experience for me. We presently have four providers including myself and a wonderful staff. On the medical side, I have a supporting group of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and medical assistants; all of whom strive to make each patient’s time at the biostation an excellent experience. We also have a group of patient advocates that is in touch with our patients to make sure that they are having a great experience, while checking in on their needs.
