Dear Premier Club Members, Welcome to Spring! As I’m sure you’ve noticed, our Spring lineup is already in full swing, both figuratively and literally – on the music front, we’re hosting two exciting new Artists in Residence! Our One Nite Stand jazz series continues with Grammynominated ensemble Ambrosia, and Glen Philips of Toad the Wet Sprocket headlines the season finale of our Dockside Live! concert series. And I would remiss not to mention the many amazing musicians who perform live in our bars and lounges practically every single night. On April 12, we present the grand finale of this season’s Corks and Conversation series: Château Lafite Rothschild, an iconic vineyard visited by none other than Thomas Jefferson back in the 18th century! This is a truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sample some of the world’s finest wines. You’ll want to reserve early, as space is limited for this very special event. In venue news: we’re celebrating the opening of The North Bar at Playa del Boca, a great new hot spot at Boca Beach Club. Brainchild of the new Beach Club GM Christophe Baraton. The North Bar features hammocks, comfortable lounge furniture, fire pits, and tantalizing food and beverage menus. In other venue news: as I mentioned a couple of months ago, renovation is now underway at the Boca Country Club golf course. The goal is to finish before the holidays, so our golf Members and golf enthusiasts can spend some holiday time on two newly renovated golf courses! We’re very excited about the re-opening. Stay tuned for more information and photos in future issues of the BCL. Our fabulous Spring continues to heat up in May and June. We’ll be as busy as ever with great events like wine tastings, new Friday family dining at Shaka, and a full slate of Memorial Day weekend activities with new wellness partners Susan Sweats Shadowboxing & Conditioning, PaddleDiva, Lymbr and much more. Château Lafite Rothschild

LOCATED IN THE WINE-PRODUCING VILLAGE OF PAUILLAC IN THE MÉDOC REGION to the northwest of Bordeaux, the property of Château Lafite Rothschild has a long winemaking history. In the early 18th century, the marquis de Ségur refined the winemaking techniques of the estate and introduced his wines to the upper echelons of European society. Before long he was know as the “Wine Prince” and the wine of Château Lafite called “the King’s Wine.” Toward the end of the 18th century, Lafite’s reputation was assured and even Thomas Jefferson visited the estate and became a lifelong customer. The property changed hands several times over the years, continuing to achieve wine excellence with historic vintages. In 1868 it was purchased by Baron James de Rothschild and is now run by the fifth generation of the Rothschild family, with Baron Eric de Rothschild at the head of Lafite and the DBR (Lafite) Group. Featuring thin slices of Kobe beef tenderloin, Vietnamese rice noodles, red onions, cilantro, fried shallots and chives, the return of this favorite will make a lot of people happy. BISON MEATLOAF RECIPE FROM 501 EAST CHEF JAMES PRUITT Ingredients 4 lbs. ground buffalo meat (bison) 1/2 cup diced white onion 3 whole eggs 2 cups bread crumbs 1 1/2 cups grated white cheddar 4 tablespoons tomato paste 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard 3 tablespoons chopped parsley 1/2 teaspoon chopped rosemary 1 tablespoon salt and pepper Directions In a large mixing bowl, mix all ingredients except the bison and the bread crumbs. Wisk until all ingredients are well mixed. Then fold in the bison and breadcrumbs. Let rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to set. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray small baking pans with pan spray. Form meatloaf into rectangle molds of 14 ounces each and place in the pan. Bake for 25 minutes in the oven and serve.

DOMS IS A PHRASE TO DESCRIBE THE MUSCLE PAIN, fatigue and stiffness nearly everyone experiences after unfamiliar strenuous activity. It often peaks a day or two after exercise and is the result of mechanical and metabolic stress on the muscle tissue beyond your normal routine. Don’t let DOMS get you down or discourage you from exercising. Keep in mind your body is adapting to a new exercise and although muscles do not visibly grow overnight, your body is changing and your efforts are making a difference. DOMS can be aggravated by factors such as lack of sleep, dehydration and a poor immune system. To decrease the discomfort, drink at least 2-3 liters of water each day if you are exercising heavily and especially if you are working up a sweat. Sleep 8-9 hours to help your muscles recover and eat foods high in anti-inflammatories and antioxidants to support the immune system and muscle recovery. It is also important to keep the muscles in motion immediately after working out to allow a gradual transition to rest: walk on the treadmill, stretch or foam roll the muscles. Working other muscles while suffering from DOMS lets the fatigued muscles recover and prevents muscle injury. You may want to reduce stiffness with low impact exercise such as walking or swimming. DOMS usually only lasts 2-3 days and your muscles will be stronger the next time they are worked out.
