Dear Premier Club Members, WE HOPE EVERYONE FINISHED 2017 ON A HIGH NOTE. If you participated in one of the celebrations here at the Club, we hope you had a great time! Our new year gets started with new (and returning) Artists in Residence. First, the great Caroline Rhea will make a special appearance at this month’s Comedy Showtime event. Chef Kerry Heffernan, executive chef at Grand Banks Restaurant and Oyster Bar in New York City, teams up with Cade Estate Winery’s winemaker for a memorable Corks & Conversation dinner. And many of you will be thrilled to hear that gifted piano man Brian Buch is returning to the Club! He’ll be kicking off our new Martinis and Melodies event at the Monkey Bar. The hit parade of Artists in Residence marches on into February and beyond! 90’s alternative band The Verve Pipe, will headline the new Dockside Live Concert Series in February, Paula Cole in March and Toad the Wet Sprocket in April. We’ll also continue our popular Jazziz One Nite Stand series in February with Grammy winning artist Bob James and Ambrosia in April. We are also excited to announce plans for a complete refurbishment of the Boca Country Club golf course this year. The course provides a welcome contrast to the Resort course by featuring a longer and more challenging design. We look forward to continuing to add value to the membership and golf experience with this much anticipated project. There so much going on, it can sometimes be hard to keep up! That’s why we encourage all Members to connect with us via the new Membership website and app. The new site and app puts the Club calendar right at your fingertips, so you won’t miss a thing. Boca Raton-native Victoria Petrocelli recently joined the team at the Resort & Club as Club marketing manager. In her new role, she will be working with Members and making sure they get all the information they need to enjoy their Club experience to the fullest. Victoria is a people-person at heart, so she’s well suited to the position, but her background in marketing, social media, photo and video production, branding and sales will also come in handy. Victoria is no stranger to the property – her father, George Petrocelli, is the director of catering at the Resort & Club. “In a way, I’ve grown up here.” she says. “I’m really excited about making a contribution of my own to this amazing place.” Her goal for 2018 is to help launch the new Membership website – beginning this month! It’s part of her effort to ensure Members have the information they need at their fingertips – on a timely and consistent basis. BASED ON A MUTUAL LOVE AND PASSION FOR WINE, Lt. Governor of California Gavin Newsom and composer/philanthropist Gordon Getty opened a wine store in 1992 with a mission of creating an approachable environment for people to learn about and purchase wine. In 1995, the duo stumbled upon a magical piece of land in the heart of Oakville, Napa Valley. Inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters, Sir John “PlumpJack” Falstaff, whose fun-loving down-to-earth disposition is only rivaled by his fierce loyalty to Prince Henry V. PlumpJack Estate wines celebrate the convivial spirit of their namesake with an inviting, approachable style. Newsom and Getty went on to found CADE Estate Winery on a special spot atop Howell Mountain. That is where Winemaker Danielle Cyrot crafts high-elevation cabernet sauvignon that articulates the intense, powerful character of the estate while maintaining a balance of mountain fruit, firm acidity and judicious oak for layered, complex wines. Danielle, who grew up in Orange County, California, the daughter of a French father and Irish mother, joined CADE Estate Winery in August of 2012 where she focuses on crafting wines from her two favorite varietals, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Her childhood was spent summering in France where she was exposed to the winemaking history of her family from a young age. Her great-grandfather was the last in a long line of ancestors who owned the Cyrot vineyard in Burgundy’s prestigious Côte de Beaune.

THE RESORT & CLUB’S ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM, designed to enhance and inspire guests through partnership with tastemakers in the areas of food and wine, music, fashion, athletics and traditional art, debuted in December 2016. Since then, its dinner series has invited noteworthy chefs to collaborate on a menu and host intimate dinner parties on-property for the Resort & Club’s Members and guests.

For this month’s Corks & Conversations Wine Dinner, the Resort & Club will be partnering with Chef Kerry Heffernan, executive chef at Grand Banks in New York City, runner up on Top Chef Masters Season 4 and guest judge on Top Chef All-Stars. As current chef at Grand Banks, a seasonal Oyster Bar and galley located on the deck of a historic cod fishing schooner moored at Pier 25 New York, Chef Heffernan’s menu will be influenced by his dedication to seafood sustainability and conservation.

WHAT’S BUZZING AT THE CLUB

IN APPRECIATION OF OUR VETERANS

In November, Veterans Day gave us an opportunity to recognize the military vets and to thank them for their service to this country and to the many sacrifices they have made on our behalf. We gathered – along with the reserve and active duty military personnel and the military family members who also deserve our thanks and appreciation – for breakfast. When the last cup of coffee had been drunk, we headed to the front courtyard for a group photo. Among the Premier Club veterans honored that day were Len Kritzer and George Siegel. We would like to share a little of their stories with you.

George Siegel During World War II, George served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 through 1946. Deployed to the Pacific, he served as a Fireman 1st Class in the engine room of three different ships: USS LST-1008, -585 and -125. Landing Ship, Tank (LST), or tank landing ship, was the Navy’s designation for ships built during the war to support amphibious operations by carrying tanks, vehicles, cargo and landing troops directly onto shore with no docks or piers. They made an amphibious assault possible on almost any beach. George saw service in Japan, Korea and China. Following the war, he performed repatriation and occupation duties. In 1946, he participated in Operation Crossroads, a series of nuclear weapons tests conducted by the U.S. at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands to investigate the effect of nuclear weapons on naval warships. Len Kritzer from Westport Ct. Len served as a corporal in the sound section of the U.S. Army’s 286th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, Battery B (FOB). Known as the "eyes and ears" for Lieutenant General George S. Patton’s advancing Third Army, the FOB was a highly specialized combat unit, responsible for using sensitive microphones and flash bases to identify the location of enemy artillery. In 1944, Len was credited with knocking out railroad guns in Germany during the Battle of Metz. He and his battalion were also involved in the Battle of the Bulge, a six-week battle stretching from December 16, 1944 through January 25, 1945 – a battle that British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill described as “undoubtedly the greatest American battle of the war.” Before being discharged in 1946, Len was awarded the insignia of Knight of the French Legion of Honor for his service in France. He and his wife, Lea, are celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary this month.

DARCY JONES BRINGS A BOATLOAD OF EXPERIENCE AND ENTHUSIASM TO HER NEW ROLE AS THE RESORT & CLUB’S YOUTH PROGRAM MANAGER. Director of Activities Robert Vazquez and the whole Activities team are excited about the creative energy Darcy brings to the position. Darcy will view the kids programming at the Resort & Club with fresh eyes. That will translate into fresh ideas for the Quest Club as we begin a New Year of exploration, activities, field trips and special guests as well as fun and exciting events for the holidays and school breaks! Originally from Kansas City, Darcy graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a bachelor’s degree in communications. Her qualifications aren’t limited to the classroom, though. Among other things, she directed a youth summer theatre program in Missouri and helped lead the Missouri Fine Arts Academy, managing and teaching 200 of the state’s highest achieving arts students. Darcy’s talents also took her on the road and out to sea as a performer. After travelling to all seven continents with Holland America, she made the move to Seabourn Luxury Cruise Line, where she spent the past four years as assistant cruise director and lead vocalist. CHRISTOPHE BARATON HAS JOINED THE TEAM AT THE BOCA BEACH CLUB IN THE ROLE AS LUXURY RESORT MANAGER. Christophe is a graduate of the Hotel Management Program at the Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France. He began his career in luxury hospitality at Chateau de la Messardière, a five-star hotel in SaintTropez, which is located on the border between Provence and the French Riviera. Much like the Resort & Club in Boca Raton, the 19thcentury chateau is regarded as a genuine institution in Saint Tropez. From there, Christophe went on to work for many prestigious properties including Hilton Waikoloa Village; JW Marriott Washington, DC; The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach; Delano Marrakech; Shore Club Miami Beach and Clift, San Francisco. Most recently, he served as general manager at the Delano South Beach. “I love this business and all that goes into making memorable experiences for our Members and guests,” Christophe says. “I'm extremely proud to be part of the team and look forward to getting to know the Membership.”
