Faith and the Power of Affirmation - Part 1

Every day in every way I am getting better and better and better.

Although very simple, this is a brilliant affirmation that can be used safely and successfully by everyone. Why? Because by repeating this you will never lie to yourself. You are not saying “I am completely well”, instead you are informing your subconscious mind of your positive intentions to become better and are programming it to carry out this instruction. You are assisting your body in its natural healing process. Also, you are working to improve every part of you– your mental and spiritual aspects as well as your physical health. Finally, this affirmation has a dynamic and powerful rhythm that will help to drive it into your subconscious mind.

What is faith?

When people say they have no faith in God, or a higher power, it is because they cling to material things and these form their reality. By its very nature, confusion and limitation must result.

It seems logical that when one looks upwards at the planets and the stars; outwards at the beauty of Nature and inwards at the rich resources of our soul, that there is a creator and higher power behind it all, very much greater than we are. Faith is not an empty thing; it is born from humility, awe and wonder at the perfection of creation; it is a stage after belief and an essential stage before wisdom and enlightenment.

Faith requires us to listen to our intuition or to the wisdom of those whom we trust such as my own Spiritual teacher, Dr. George King, founder of The Aetherius Society. This demands discrimination and study, as well as open-mindedness on our part. One of the great benefits of regular Spiritual practices is that these strengthen our faith and make us more aware of a higher reality. The more we practice yoga breathing, visualization, mantra, and prayer, the more these glimpses will become a reality and greater faith will be born.

The benefits of faith are enormous.

Unlike doubt, which erodes and is destructive, faith regenerates. It is constructive in nature and through faith we can draw upon our inner strength and power in a balanced way. By having faith in the divine source within all life, we can help build strength in others.

Affirmation Most of us are aware of the power and creativity of positive thinking. We have all heard stories about people beating

unbelievable odds through the sheer power of their will and positive thinking.

This is something we can all do through the technique of affirmation.

When we affirm negative things, we are programming our subconscious mind in the wrong way. The subconscious mind governs all bodily functions and if we constantly tell it that we are getting older and sicker, then it will obediently carry out your instructions by making us older and sicker. The subconscious mind does not reason; it just obeys. It is extremely brilliant but it is not creative in that it just obeys what we tell it to do.

Prove that you mean it Also, you have to work along with your affirmations. I know people who think that if they are affirming something then that is the only course of action they need to take. It would not make sense to affirm that your financial situation is getting better if you stopped working and instead went on endless shopping sprees! Affirmations will work for you; they will become a part of you, and then it is up to you to prove that you really mean them, by acting upon what you are affirming. In other words, we should not be hypocrites.

If you are an anxious type of person it is difficult to stop worrying. It is extremely difficult to change your negative thought pattern just by a sheer act of will, more difficult than stopping an ingrained habit such as smoking. Try instead to slowly introduce affirmations into your daily routine. These will have a ripple effect on your thought patterns and you will gradually find that the motion of the affirmation will literally knock your thoughts and words into better shape.

Never lie to yourself Many people teach affirmations and you may already be repeating some.

However, remember you should never lie to yourself and the reason for this is simple. If you tell yourself a lie, your obedient servant – the subconscious mind – will try and program the lie; this will cause confusion and eventually your circuits will break down!

We meet upon the level and we part upon the square These words have precious meaning and are practiced everywhere Come let us contemplate them, they are worthy of a thought From the ancient times of Masonry these symbols have been taught We meet upon the level, every country, sect and creed The rich man from his mansion, the poor man from the field For wealth is not considered within our outer door And we all meet on the level upon the checkered floor.

We act upon the Plumb the Junior Warden states We walk upright throughout our lives, we seek the pearly gates The All-seeing Eye that reads our hearts doth bear us witness true That we shall try to honor God and give each man his due We part upon the square as all good Masons do We mingle with the multitude a faithful band and true So the brotherhood of Masonry from every corner come To meet upon the level and act upon the plumb.

A Spiritual Journey

Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13

Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in W. Virginia.

In 1914, Mother’s Day became a national holiday. Pink carnations, representing gratitude and love, are a favorite flower given on Mother’s Day.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Wear Your Sunscreen!

May 27 is National Sunscreen Awareness Day! Everyone needs sunscreen if they’re going outside, especially on sunny days. Effective sunscreens prevent sunburn, reduce skin cancers, and help prevent premature skin aging by protecting you from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, blocking 97% of the sun’s UVB rays, which are strongest between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Seek shade, and lather-up when enjoying fun in the sun!

It is not often that I want to say thank you to a writer for their words, but once when I was working with a group of young men in an inner-city school, I had them read a quote by Marianne Williamson. My intention was to let them realize how great they can truly be. So often they are characterized as lacking in so many areas. I wanted them to know life is not based on others’ expectation and they could achieve all they want in life. So we read her quote aloud.

Her words resonated within each young man and me, the idea that we are meant to shine, to be brilliant, talented, gorgeous, a body of Truth. I saw their eyes sparkle with the thought… I am brilliant. Yet, for some of them I could feel that they still had a feeling of being stuck, trapped in their own suffering or their own pain bodies. I shared with them that our lives may not have gone in a story book fashion as we may have envisioned, or it may not have been filled with all painless encounters.

In her book Tears to Triumph: The Spiritual Journey from Suffering to Enlightenment Marianne states “The pain you are going through is not what will determine your future; your future will be determined by who you are as you go through your pain.”

These are the moments that open and awaken the SPIRITUAL cells which release the Christ presence within us.

Moments of despair, MOMENTS OF FEAR, that we say NO!....not here, for I AM A CHILD OF GOD, A SPIRITUAL PRESENCE OF THE MOST HIGH! When we move away from tears and fears and ascend into the Hightower of Triumph, a spiritual victory has taken place. We are no longer playing small and the light within us is shining for all the world to see. We are born to manifest the glory of God that is within us! Memorial Day, Monday, May 28

Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally called Decoration Day, it originated after the Civil War, becoming an official federal holiday in 1971. It is the unofficial start of the summer season.

Co-create with Love and Live Your Purpose

The Mother is an archetype within us all. She receives from the Father (Universe, God, Love) and births love. Male or female, you have the capacity to birth new ideas, beauty and love into the world. A human is made to be a distribution point of good, and co-creator with life.

“You can never lose your life...you ARE life.” Eckhart Tolle As you choose to be a co-creator versus a consumer, you give your gifts of love to everyone you meet and you open, receiving a flow of prosperity coming to you, and through you. Your good is already done, it only requires your openness. You have a choice each day to decide that you are lacking, and must “get” your good, or that you have it all already. As you receive what is eternally being given, you activate channels of prosperity with whomever you meet. You open to what wants to emerge, as you decide to “let” not “get”.

When you decide to be a co-creator, you align your heart with the dream waiting to express through you.

If you decide this world has something you must “get” to be happy, then you declare to your own heart that you are currently lacking in the now moment. You begin your day from a deficit.

You send a vibration to everyone you meet of grasping and fear. Embrace your innate power of co-creating. Through the Mother Archetype, be available to what the Great Father, Universe or God seeks to express through you.

In the past 10,000 years, our culture has devalued the Mother Archetype. Yet, the Mother energy is the key to manifestation, joy and inner peace. The Mother archetype is: self-love, highreceptivity, nature, body-connection, community, relationships, emotions and food. The vessel God/Love demonstrates through, is just as important as the energy that flows through.

Spirit and matter are One. You are also pure consciousness or energy. This pure consciousness is the archetype of the Father. Your willingness to be in high-receptivity to the Universe/God’s continual blessings takes great courage. Loving yourself and others means you must deny the power of the physical world. Be in the world and not of it, means to align your thoughts with thoughts of love. In fiercely choosing love daily, you will change the conditions of your life.

“What reality you choose...you will be at it’s effect” Course In Miracles The power of the Mother Archetype includes self-mothering.

Self-mothering impregnates you with co-creative powers, and births consciousness or God through you; like a mother who will love her children no matter what. You must choose to love independent of matter. Meaning, no matter the health condition within you, the circumstance, or your past...you will love it. Keep fighting a condition and you will stay in a fight. Accept the condition is there, and then choose to love it. Like the unearthly strength of a mother who has pulled her child out from under a car, you must relentlessly choose to love your perceived inadequacies.

What you love transforms, and what you resist persists.

The Father is the vertical line, the Mother the horizontal.

We need both. Yes, your personal alignment with God/ Universe is fundamental. Albeit, without the inter-dependence of community, relationship, body-awareness and nature... your spiritual growth will become stunted. We need to balance on this planet the vertical with the horizontal. Valuing “individualism over relationships”, “objective over subjective” and “doing over how we are being”, we become too vertical. If you want to co-create love and healing in the world, what you do is just as important as how you do it.

Your desire to co-create can be as strong as procreation (man or woman). The Mother energy within us all can co-create a new world. The Power of a Mother’s Intuition

Things you may need to know to discern between worry and intuition:

We’ve heard of mother’s intuition, however there has not been any scientific proof of this until a recent study was published in the Medical Journal, PLOS ONE, which shows that the DNA of her child actually shows up in the mother’s brain! Scientifically, this helps us understand the bond between the mother-child connection, but does it really give us the whole picture of this connection?

I had many mom intuition experiences with my children; one that stands out for me is when I was in the middle of doing a reading and I felt a fear for my child come over me. I informed my client I would have to reschedule her session as my son was in trouble. The client was not happy with this, but I pointed out to her that if she trusts that I am psychic, know that the universe is sharing an emergency message. My son needed me. Earlier that morning I had dropped my 18-month old son at a new daycare center. Even though I did not feel 100% positive about the place, I ignored my gut feelings and left him as I had a full day of clients.

You should NEVER ignore your intuition, I told myself as I jumped up from my desk and drove quickly to the center. Upon entering the daycare, I quickly moved toward the room where only children under three were allowed. They were supposed to be behind a closed door as they were in a separate room from the older children.

But the door was open and there was a growing number of older children coming together, watching and cheering as what seemed to be a fight going on in the toddler room! I moved through the kids to discover my little son on the floor with his face all bloody, crying hysterically as I pulled an eight-year-old boy off him. I swept up my baby and held him close while I went to find who let this happen. All six of the daycare workers were in a lunch room having coffee and laughing.

Yes, I sued and was able to shut the center down so that no other child would be in danger. But that did not change the trauma that my son went through. If it weren’t for my intuition he would have been seriously hurt.

When concerned or worried about your children: The worried mom thinks, “Will my child listen to my cautions and look both ways when crossing the street?” Your imagination will fearfully see them being hit by a car because they would not yield your wisdom to look both ways before crossing the street.

Intuition will come suddenly and will be far more urgent. You may feel their pain if they hurt themselves. You may sense their fear. If you have developed your sixth sense, you may receive details on what your child is experiencing.

2. Don’t always trust the doctor over your intuition: Example: You take your child to the doctor because they are not feeling well, however the doctor says that it is only a cold.

Your child seems to be better, but you are not sure because you are getting an anxious feeling. Something must have been overlooked so you take the child back, but again the pediatrician gives you the all clear.

Your intuition is now screaming at you. Something is wrong and you know it.

I remember when I took my daughter (who was four at the time) to the pediatrician. She had just recovered a few weeks earlier from a bad case of Chickenpox. Now she seemed to have a headache and was very fatigued. I had to carry her into the doctor’s office. He told me to give her an aspirin and that she just needed a good night’s sleep.

My intuition spoke to me loud and clear, Take her to the hospital NOW. Trusting my intuition, I raced her to the hospital and they diagnosed her with Reye’s syndrome. If I would have listened to the doctor and given her an aspirin, she would have died. In 1974 when this took place, they were just learning about Reye’s syndrome, but thank goodness I let my mother’s intuition guide me.

On Being a Healthy Woman

Nurturing seems to come naturally to much of the female gender. It doesn’t appear to be age-related or even dependent upon whether or not she has children. I fondly recall one of my oldest patients, Jessie, still looking out for everyone else’s needs at 100 years of age. At the other end of the spectrum, my 2 year old granddaughter apparently decided when her cousin was born that he was her baby to take care of, doing it with all the joys of a new mother.

From family members to romantic involvements, professional relationships and dear friends, I have great appreciation for the women in my life.

And my advanced training in hormones has helped with my understanding of them.

With over 35 years of experience as a holistic doctor, I am fortunate to have a unique perspective on women’s health, their emotions and hormones. I’ve also learned that women think and process information differently than men. I believe most women are organized and logical in their thinking when their hormones are balanced; but when their hormones are imbalanced, watch out because misemotions can destroy logic.

Now let’s see how to keep both the body and its hormones balanced and healthy. The structure of the body houses the highly-sophisticated nervous system.

This system carries over 3 trillion signals per second from the brain to the body while simultaneously receiving streams of data from the body. Each joint-space in the body contains special cells, known as proprioceptors, which send data pertaining to that body part. If joints don’t fully articulate (move fully), data is altered and signals to the brain don’t contain all the information necessary for good decisions.

Now the spine comes into play. Each vertebra has 4 to 12 joints that send vast quantities of information when they are functioning normally. Think about how these joints would be affected by weight changes due to poor eating habits or pregnancy. They’re also affected by the wrong kind of exercise, excessive exercise, no exercise, and/or poor nutrition.

more prone to cancers. Progesterone helps modulate excess estrogen and makes us feel happier, similar to the way a woman feels in the second trimester of pregnancy when her body kicks out 400 mg of progesterone per day rather than the usual 20 mg.

The second half of the thinking/decisionmaking portion of the body is in the gut.

Half of the neurons that run the body are in the gut along with the majority of the immune system. The intestines make much of the body’s defenses, called antibodies, which protect us from foreign invaders that have made it past the acid bath in the stomach and the alkaline environment of the small intestines.

Creating alkaline enzymes is one of the important jobs of the pancreas.

The hormonal system is also incredibly complex. This is one of the reasons I don’t advocate using artificial or bioidentical hormones. Hormones are hugely powerful and a little bit goes a long way. Too much and too little have nearly the same symptoms so it’s hard to tell where you’re at without testing. I like muscle testing and saliva testing best.

It’s best to support your body’s ability to produce your own hormones first.

What about low libido? Testosterone is necessary for libido. When there’s excess belly fat, the aromatase enzyme turns testosterone into estrogen and creates more belly fat. Men and women both experience similar hormone disruptions due to high estrogen. This is where diet and health plays a huge role. Fast foods, conventional foods, and environmental chemicals, such as weed killers and pesticides, are just the short list of what increases estrogen levels.

It’s possible to balance our delicate hormonal systems by eating the right foods, supplementing with whole food supplements (not synthetic chemically derived vitamins), and staying away from unnatural foods, GMO’s, and foods that produce estrogen in the body, such as soy, flax, and others.

Puberty and menopause are typically difficult times. Life can be so crazy during these times that after their hormones have settled down, many gals don’t even remember going through it. Menopause is similar to puberty in that the body is going through its second great transmigration to a time of great hormonal change. The levels of hormones decrease but the ratios stay the same.

Chiropractic care also helps balance hormones by opening up important communication pathways between the nervous system and hormonal system.

The pathway between the anterior and posterior pituitary gland is especially important because the pituitary gland is part of the hypothalamus /pituitary axis which processes the primary hormones into downstream hormones which run the rest of the body. The pituitary gland also has an area that is specifically responsible for testosterone production.

Estrogen dominance is common in today’s chemical-laden world. High estrogen leads to weight gain as fat between the hips and the knees, unstable emotions, and poor decisionmaking. High estrogen also makes us

Since progesterone maintains pregnancy, women don’t usually feel as good when their progesterone drops and estrogen rises to start the birth cycle. The same hormone fluctuation takes place when the menstrual cycle begins. See the pattern? Hot flashes also relate to low progesterone.

How do you spend your time? Seems like a simple question, but it is really rather deep. Most of us would answer, “Carpooling my kids around.” Or, “Working long hours at the office or with my clients/patients.” Or, “Taking care of my elderly parents.” Or all of the above. But when I see truly happy and joyful people, and of a certain age, I know it is because they know the meaning of life. It is all about how you spend your time.

Time alone in quiet or rest is vital to happiness and a feeling of peace. Vital! Think of it as a gift to yourself. Especially if you feel your life can be frenetic; time in front of the TV sipping a glass of wine, walking alone in a park just taking in the greenery, or listening to a book on tape while driving somewhere can recharge you. And time spent with your “tribe”, those friends who accept you no matter what faults you have and those family members you go “home” to, is also what it is all about.

Recently, I rendezvoused with a girlfriend I have not seen in 35 years. We roomed together for two years at the University of Michigan. It was as if nothing had changed, no time had passed. We easily shared about our lives and concerns. We listened, laughed, and kept saying things like, “You have not changed a bit. You look exactly the same.” What we meant was the bond we shared back then was still there. We are part of each other’s tribe. She lives in Los Angeles and I in Detroit. But the connection we share makes those miles seem invisible. I think this is what a tribe-mate is all about. It is someone in your life who unconditionally loves you, who gets you, and who accepts you, spots and all.

Moving Toward Balance in Masculine/Feminine Energies

When we think of the month of May, most likely the mind conjures up thoughts of flowers and Mother’s Day. From the time I was a child, May was the month we honored our mother, all mothers and especially, if raised like I was in the Christian tradition, the Mother Mary. I remember the excitement that came when we lined up in a procession to carry lilacs, tulips, and lilies to place before the altar of the Virgin Mary, honoring her. Some lucky eighth grader would be chosen to place the crown, carefully woven from Bridals Wreath, onto the head of the statue during the candlelight ceremony. The memory of that sacred ceremony is preserved in my mind. I can still imagine the perfume in the air from the flowers that filled the altar, blending with the scent of Frankincense as the priest swung the incense burner as he walked down the aisle.

When we think of mother energy, we think of love, compassion, and nurturing. We think of a container for what is. A mother’s love is totally accepting no matter how we show up. This is true of the feminine aspect of Divine Energy. It is receptive, accepting, allowing, intuitive and feeling. It is about being.

What most people do not understand is that feminine energies are in all beings, both male and female. So too is the masculine energy. The issue is whether these energies are in balance.

When they are not, chaos reigns. When we look around at the stress and drama playing on the worldwide stage, we can clearly see an imbalance in the masculine/feminine energies.

We often refer to these energies and Yin and Yang, Shiva and Shakti. These energies are also reflected in our breath.

A nice, full inhale is about creating. It is an act of doing. It is the masculine. A relaxed exhale reflects the feminine principle of surrender. Surrender does not imply being a pushover or doormat; rather, it is an acceptance of what is, an allowing.

Allowing means to let go of resistance to what is, without judgment or criticism. It is the art of containing.

It is interesting to see the evidence of this in our society. We have been primarily a male dominated society. Men held positions of power in both politics and corporations. Males are still compensated at a higher rate than their female counterparts, in a lot of instances. But the pendulum is swinging. “Individually and collectively, we are shifting from a position of fear into surrender and trust and the intuitive. The

Many times people ask me how I got interested in my career in Structural Integration (a.k.a. Rolfing). At the time, there were a number of things going on in my life and my body. Over time, I discovered that it was very difficult to walk even a block or two. I would become very fatigued in my leg and hip muscles and if I tried to push beyond that limit it turned into pain.

I already knew that I had hyperextended knees and one hip that was higher than the other. What made things even worse was that I possessed a forward head posture. That is where the head is actually hanging out in space as it sits quite a bit forward in front of the rest of the body. This was causing frequent headaches due to the pressure it was putting on both nerves and fascia.

After reading and studying the book, I began my search for a Rolf Practitioner.

It took a while, but I finally learned of a Rolfer who lived in Chicago, IL, who came to Kalamazoo, MI every other week to treat clients.

When I walked down the street and would catch my reflection in a store window, I observed my poor posture and this was never a happy experience. I was also becoming increasingly aware that I wasn’t really living in my body. I was a head directing my body from place to place.

One day in the mid 1970’s, I walked into a bookstore and saw a book called, Rolfing, The Integration of Human Structures by Ida P. Rolf. This book just about leapt off the shelf into my hands.

As I glanced through it I could see that it discussed a number of case studies with numerous pictures of people before and after they experienced Rolfing. (Since this was the day before Photoshop™, the pictures were quite convincing). I saw some of my own poor postural patterns in the ‘before’ photos.

Up to that point, I thought this kind of profound structural change was not even possible. I thought that how you came into the world was just the way you stayed. My attempts to instruct my body to stand differently had only lead to adding another layer of stress and tension to the mix. For better or for worse, I thought you were stuck with your body’s structural posture.

However, the before and after pictures of these subjects gave me new hope for a powerful and lasting change.

I immediately signed-up for the Ten Session Series. At the time, I was living in Detroit and did not have access to a car. So I took the train to Kalamazoo, and then boarded a bus that took me to the end of the line. I then walked another 20 minutes to where the practitioner saw his clients. It turned out to be well worth the trip.

After the first three to four sessions, my hyper-extended knee problem significantly improved. As it cleared up I became aware of a huge emotional piece that was directly tied into my knee pattern. You see, when someone has hyper-extended knees and you push them lightly on their torso, they tend to easily be uprooted and fall backwards.

For me, this structural pattern translated into the feeling that I didn’t have a leg to stand on and had a hard time saying “no” to others. As my knee issue resolved,

my self-esteem increased and I gained 3/4 of an inch in height and could walk comfortably for miles. One of the most profound changes was that I now felt at home and at one with my body.

Balance of Femininity and the Universe

These are some of the things that have drawn me to this work. I personally continue to get the periodic Rolfing work done on myself because of the continual value I receive both physically and psychologically. There is a range of positive improvements. I will always be grateful to Ida Rolf both for what I have received from my Rolf practitioners, and for what I have been able to offer to others.

There is a universal, intelligent, life force that exists within everyone and everything. It resides within each one of us as a deep wisdom, an inner knowing. We can access this wonderful source of knowledge and wisdom through our intuition, an inner sense that tells us what feels right and true for us at any given moment. Shakti Gawain

Let us look closely at our earth -- all of nature is filled with femininity (hence, mother nature!). The earth balance is feminine. This balance does not imply masculinity is absent. Know that all humans no matter the gender, women and men, have both attributes.

Mother’s Day is near, and I can’t help but recall my mother’s words of wisdom on life, people, politics, relationships, and being a woman. One thing my mom would repeatedly say, “Know that your femininity and intellect can be your strength or weakness, so use it wisely.” I incorporate into my life my mother’s words of wisdom as I evolve into the person I am today and will become.

Somewhere in history femininity lost its power-presence. We lost the key to our true self. In some cultures throughout the world, femininity was invisible and non-essential.

In this millennia, the feminine presence is again gaining its place of power-presence.

We are recognized and visible only when we recognize ourselves, and come to know that we were born with divine power and strength. As Marianne Williamson penned, “New things lie in store for the earth, and one of them is us. Womanhood is being recast, and we’re pregnant, en masse, giving birth to our own redemption.”

The natural balance in our universe is evolving. In 2009 the Dalai Lama stated that Western women will save the world.

As our femininity is taking on a new role, using our evolving responsibility with our innate guiding principles - principles of love, caring, fairness, truth, and compassion, we can transform the planet. Marianne Williamson wrote in, A Woman’s Worth, “There is holiness in the air today; modern priestesses appear to be universal. They are who we are, for they are us: friends, therapists, artists, businesswomen, teachers, healers, mothers, and sisters. We have a new calling.” It’s a time for women to gather (we see it more and more every day), and share energy and pray together and heal the world.

Around the world numbers are ever-increasing for female leaders, both in government and corporations. History tells us of impactful movements and changes that were made for the good of all people, influenced by a woman (as a wife, sister, mother of a great male leader, or sitting at the table of power ourselves). We bring meaning to our existence once we establish who we are at our core.

Nurturing and Empowering

I mean stepping back and allowing the child to be self-directed, to learn from experience, to make choices and learn from their mistakes.

Mothering is a job with infinite challenges and gifts. As a mother myself, I look back on 26 years as a parent and realize that the changes this journey has wrought within me are some of the most important and valuable in a life rich with opportunities for growth and change.

In my perspective there are two significant goals of mothering – one is to nurture, and the other is to empower. Striking the right balance of these two is something each parent has to find for herself, but I do have some thoughts to share on this very important subject. As a healer and teacher, I have had the opportunity to work with many children and their mothers, and an interesting trend has emerged. Where social consciousness in recent generations has focused greatly on the need for nurturing, the value of empowering may be getting short attention overall.

By nurturing I mean all activity and influences which assist, protect, direct and define a child’s experience. By empowering

When working with children, I often find they experience a tendency toward being nurtured more than empowered. In their mothers there may be a great concern for the child’s success in the world; and perhaps somewhat a belief that the child’s success is a reflection of their success as a parent.

I believe this is strongly encouraged in them by the educational system and society as a whole. As I work with children’s Higher Selves, they are often asking for help individuating more to find their own power and self-identity. How wonderful it is that these children have the nurturing and love, which is very essential in their development. However, at a certain point a mother faces the hardest job of all – releasing their child to build their own soul muscles and learn from their experiences of life.

It’s interesting that people with the least nurturing often become the most self-motivated individuals. However, they may have difficulty receiving love from others, lacking the experience of sufficient love as a child. As I work with children within those of our enlightened community, their mothers are often concerned that they seem to lack self-motivation. I believe this is partly because of the high level of nurturing they receive. It

often seems that more empowerment is being requested by their Higher Selves and fortunately I have numerous ways to assist that, and also to help their most nurturing parents let go enough for them to experience it.

As a healer I often work with people retroactively through their early life and into the present to nurture that sense of independence and self-confidence that can only be built by listening to and choosing for themselves. And for the mothers, I help them begin to listen to their instincts rather than their fears, and the judgments of the educational community, to find within themselves the wisdom to know when to nurture and how to empower their unique and precious children.

Looking across generations there tends to be a swing between extremes of nurturing and empowering parenting. The freedom of the 60s and 70s era that I grew up in tended so strongly to the extreme on the empowering spectrum to seem neglectful!

The things we were allowed to do, with apparent unconcern by our parents is astounding when looked at from today’s nurturing trend of parenting. Since then the inclination toward nurturing has swung to the opposite extreme of caution, care and direction given to our children. Society seems to promote this extreme through the educational system which insists that children be driven to succeed, and parents are responsible to see that they do. There seems to be an attitude of “or else” attached to this as well.

we do. What we need to do is get a clear intention of the new future that we desire, such as living without pain and disease, and then combine that thought with a heightened emotion, such as the hope and excitement of living free of pain and feeling healthy.

There is a very good book by Dr. Joe Dispenza called, You Are the Placebo. He explains that many people have been cured by taking a harmless pill, often a sugar pill, just by believing the pill is real and is going to cure their illness. The pill does not cure the person. It is the belief in the pill that has the curative power. If we believe the pill will cure us, our bodies create the necessary chemicals or upload the necessary genes to actually bring the cure about.

Unfortunately, it is not that easy to focus on feeling well when one is in pain. This is where a method such as hypnosis can be very helpful. With hypnosis, you can go into a hypnotic state and visualize the future you desire. By doing this in trance, the subconscious will more quickly accept this new suggestion or belief.

The subconscious resistance will be greatly reduced.

In addition, with hypnosis you can make suggestions to do this visualization every day, so that you can consistently pursue the goal. This is critically important, and yet few people are actually able to do this with consistency.

When he was finally free and had an opportunity to actually play golf, people were amazed at how well he played. All this happened merely by using the imagination, again showing how powerful our minds are. We are all capable of doing similar feats.

The Frequency and Power of Your Thoughts

There are so many misunderstandings about vitamins, that it is well-known that much false information is present. One such VERY misunderstood vitamin is Vitamin C.

Have you ever felt like you’re just existing? Going through life on autopilot? Working and working and getting nowhere? And, you keep telling yourself, “If only I did more___. If only ___ hadn’t happened ... “, keeping a constant stream of negative self-talk and judgment, just trying to get through the stresses in life. People often wonder why they don’t enjoy their life. A lot of the time it’s simply because of their own inner self talk and not working through past trauma.

Our government rates Vitamin C by the amount of Ascorbic Acid it contains. Well, let me enlighten you. Ascorbic Acid is merely a COMPONENT of the Vitamin C Complex. Matter of fact, I bet a very few of you have even heard of Vitamin C being referred to as a Complex, like Vitamin B is a complex. But, Vitamin C is a complex as well.

The Ascorbic Acid is only a small component of the Vitamin C Complex. It is the antioxidant portion, which is the preservative and protective part of the C Complex.

While this is as nature intended and totally healthy, how would you like to just eat a preservative and miss the food it is preserving? Sounds pretty ridiculous, right? Well, it is!

Bioflavonoids (formerly known as P factors) keep our blood vessels strong. The P stands for permeability, or the ability of things to pass through a membrane -- not so good when we’re talking about blood vessels! How would you like a little permeability in your brain? That is pretty frightful, but that is an example of what we’re dealing with here.

When our blood vessels break down too easily, it is because they’ve become too permeable. Common, less threatening examples are bruising easily or bleeding gums while brushing teeth. These things are a less severe case of the bleeding that occurs in a stroke. While it can be a very long way along the spectrum to a stroke, you can probably see it is kind of important, to say the least, and maybe, just maybe, it would be wise to take care of it.

Vitamin K is another part of the Vitamin C Complex. This is what helps our blood clot properly so we don’t bleed out. Vitamin K is also abundant in Chlorophyll. Oh, wonderful Chlorophyll...another amazing blessing from nature. That is a whole other topic, but let me give you this little tidbit: Chlorophyll and Hemoglobin (our carrier of oxygen throughout our body) are nearly identical molecules, only differing in their central atom. Chlorophyll has Magnesium, and Hemoglobin has Iron as their central atom. For this reason, deep green leafy foods made into a puree can greatly help the person who has lost a lot of blood; the body easy builds blood from it, especially if there are adequate iron stores in the body.

While past trauma issues are deep and often require therapy, the self-talk can be a bit easier to work on mindfully with one’s self. From doing a Google search, it looks like we have between 60-80,000 thoughts per day; that means we have an average of 2,500 – 3,300 thoughts per hour, 50 every 60 minutes.

That’s almost one per second. I really wonder how much a client is participating or hiding in a session when I ask them what they are thinking, and they say they “don’t know” or “nothing.” It usually means we have encountered a thought they want to suppress or deny about themselves. Those are the thoughts we can work on growing through. They are important as to how we experience our lives. We have great denial as to the acknowledging of our own thoughts, particularly when we judge them as inappropriate or negative.

these thoughts so we can not only acknowledge the dark side of ourselves, our possible perceptions and judgments, we can also get to know who we are and then transform what we wish so that we can lead a life that we enjoy. Simply put, the thoughts that we have, have the power to determine the quality of life we experience.

Knowing this, we can also probably agree that most of us perceive and experience events differently in our own mind. Depending on our thought patterns, we can change stored memory, especially childhood memories, and distort it to accommodate our negative self-talk pattern. Pretty understandable when as children, we’ve only a certain amount of experience to base our perceptions on; usually programmed by our parents. Yet, as adults, we can take responsibility for our thoughts and perceptions. Distortions can help us survive.

As we distort those experiences, we get to survive something traumatic, make sense of the world, be right, not happy. That self-talk, positive or negative, and those distortions make sense with how we’ve experienced the world so far. The ego, our defense mechanism, is not concerned with happiness; it is concerned with survival and making sense of the world.

So, to start your own journey of self-growth, do what myself, other therapists and guides have recommended for centuries -- keep a journal of your true thoughts without censoring, just for you. No one needs to see them besides you. Just because you think them, does not make them real as discussed above, yet these uncensored thoughts can lead you to see how your thoughts are controlling and determining how you experience your life. Just try it, see how your life can change, just by recognizing these thoughts. Then, you can work on transforming them!

Mending fences by apologizing is one easy way to release the guilt. If apologies aren’t possible, you can still let go of those feelings, and make reparations for your actions by resolving to serve the needs of others, from this point forward.

Life provides each of us with the opportunity to grow at a soul level. It’s a learning experience. We’re meant to hit stumbling blocks along the way in order to more clearly illuminate the right path. Each challenge provides opportunities to connect with others who, like us, are also seeking answers.

Perhaps your inability to let go of the past has to do with something that was done to you. You still have the option to release those negative emotions.

It’s called, forgiveness. If holding on to a past transgression from another person causes you to miss out on being fully present, you’re choosing to withhold healing from yourself.

Forgiveness is not about condoning the bad behavior of others; it’s about empowering yourself to move beyond it. By doing so, you are releasing the excess baggage from your life which is not serving you in a positive way.

Remember, holding on to anger doesn’t punish the other person, it only punishes you.

Occasionally, those interactions can bring out some not-so-favorable behaviors. And, because we are all love at the core of our being, acting in a manner other than that, pulls us out of balance. When we lie, cheat or hurt others, it negatively impacts us as well.

We end up taking on the baggage of anger, denial and guilt for our actions, forcing us to replay those negative moments in our mind. This pulls us away from the freedom to enjoy the only thing that really matters -- being fully present in the now.

Think about it. If you hurt someone with your words or actions, yes, they are victimized, but you’re left holding on to that guilt like a piece of baggage.

Carrying it with you, everywhere you go.

After years of treating others with unkind actions, or simply ignoring the needs of others, that piece of baggage that you’re dragging through life, becomes a full set of luggage. Every time you revisit those moments, the emotions surface again, keeping you stuck in the past, unable to move forward.

Live a clean life. Not just by eating organic foods, exercising, and drinking plenty of water. Live a clean life by always acting from a place of pure love, in all that you say, think and do. This will align you with your highest self. And, that which we are in alignment with, brings us more of the same.

Clairsentience means all feeling.

We are all empaths; we pick up on other’s feelings. People often have addictions that numb them from feeling so much; it’s good we are clairsentient, we just need to know how to use it with useful tools to help us not be so sensitive at times.

Our third eye chakra, called Ajna in Sanskrit, located between our eyebrows, governs meditation, visions, intuition, psychic abilities, the pituitary gland, eyes and left brain. Our psychic abilities are known as clairs. We are all born with four main clairs. Children use all four clairs simultaneously. Due to various beliefs by adulthood, we only use one or two of our clairs.

Clairaudience means clear hearing; we hear messages from our guides as well as sounds, tones and frequencies. We don’t realize most of the “voices in our head” is our guides telepathically communicating with us. Meditation is beneficial, helping us quite our mind so that we can discern which voices are ours and which are our guides.

Clairvoyance means clear seeing. Children, especially those who are autistic, are extremely clairvoyant, seeing images for every word they hear. We are all clairvoyant and have the power to use visualization for manifesting. If I ask you to picture a loved one, automatically you see them. Practice basic

To enhance clairsentience, practice when you are on the phone or in a room with others.

See if you can feel how they are feeling.

Meditation also helps quiet our minds to better discern which feelings are ours and which are from others.

Claircognizance means all knowing. People sometimes have a hard time hearing if their main clair is claircognizance. We often search for answers outside ourselves instead of within.

Claircognizance is an inner knowing, somehow we just know things. People who function mainly in claircognizance are old souls that get their knowing from retaining the wisdom and knowledge gathered from thousands of lifetimes. To strengthen claircognizance, practice guessing who’s calling before you look, or if you have a question ask your highest self and meditate to hear the answers.

Here are some crystals to meditate with on your third eye, or you can carry them with you to open, cleanse, energize, remove blocks, and strengthen your pituitary gland and psychic abilities. For clairaudience use phantom quartz, green chlorite phantoms, celestite, angelite and danburite. For claircognizance use selenite, amethyst, danburite, apophyllite, phenecite, labradorite, moldavite and tanzanite.

To enhance clairsentience use opal, aquamarine, chrysocolla and rose quartz; sodalite decreases over-sensitivity. For clairvoyance use aquamarine, opal, amethyst, emerald, tektite, celestite, herkimer diamonds, lapis lazuli and moonstone.

These are fun to play with kids, because they use all the clairs simultaneously, helping them strengthen and learn how to use them.

The Five Koshas

someone smiles, we feel a sensation of warmth and looseness in the body.

Last month we discussed Koshas one (Annamaya Kosha/Physical Sheath) and two (Pranayama Kosha/Vital Energy Sheath). Here we will continue with Koshas three, four and five. According to yoga tradition, each of us houses five different bodies, each made of finer gradations of energy. Rather than these bodies being separated by physical space, energetic levels separate them.

All are present at the same time in each of us.

We have some control over these reflective actions. To some extent they reflect what we feed them. If we have a mental diet based on watching violent TV shows, we begin to crave aggressive forms of stimulation. If we spend our lives staring into a cell phone we establish a monotony and dullness in experiencing the input of the world.

It is best to establish a universe of balance, being close to nature, and in a natural form of harmony reflective of the natural world, as reflected of the Taoist model. Such a model is populated by psychological challenges, supportive and fun relationships.

3) Manomaya Kosha (Mental Body): The foundational element of this Kosha is our absorption of the outside world through our five senses. Through this Kosha we process information from these senses, and respond reflectively.

While always present, the manomaya kosha shuts down during sleep.

The reflexes range from the simple to the complex. An example of a simple reflex is the blinking of the eye when exposed to a puff of air. But a more complex reflex is the working of the autonomic system when it senses danger, which is a reflex shaped by our past experiences and learning. Our past experiences teach us to fear or embrace certain sensory inputs; if someone raises a fist we experience tightness in the muscles and shallow breathing. If

When that person raises a fist, the gut feeling we experience becomes a narrative like, “He hates me”, and this narrative often leads to action. When a desired person smiles, we may translate that warm bodily feeling into the narrative, “I am loved.”

From a mindfulness perspective, psychopathology stems from those faulty narratives we construct, and/or dwell upon. Cure comes from teaching the client about those distortions, giving insight into how those distortions occur and the establishment of more adaptive judgments.

5) Anandanamaya Koshsa (Spiritual Bliss Body): This is most hidden body, but is anchored in the intuition that life is worth living, that being alive is good. This bliss body is the deepest layer of the personal self, and the closest level to the universal or transcendent self.

Yogis recommend mantra meditation and periods of sensory withdrawal as a cleansing and antidote to disruptive sensory input.

4) Vijnanamaya Kosha (Intellect Body): This Kosha refers to intellect, judgment or discernment. Psychologically, this Kosha encompasses our higher cognitive power. Developmentally, it evolves later than the sensory processes called perception. This Kosha organizes sensual data into meaningful judgments or narratives.

Access to this state is through deep meditation. Meditation touches the bliss body and leads to the experience of being joyful and free. Saints, sadhus, Kabbalists, and other mystics purify their minds through deep meditation in order to be receptive to God. In addition to meditation, selfless service, devotion to God, and Samadhi (intense concentration) are all paths to bliss.

This is the Kosha most worked with in psychotherapy. Those feeling states manifest in the Manomaya Kosha, and become translated into ego judgments

Each Kosha has a set of practices which enable us to reach our potentials.

Wholeness, good mental health and happiness are dependent upon each of us developing our maximum potential in each Kosha.

This will lead to drastic changes in your life, and the lives of others that you connect with on a soul level. Every thought and belief that you have will somehow manifest into something that you’ll see out in the physical world.

Throughout history the sailors always used the North Star to navigate them safely across the seas. As all other stars may move around in the universe, the North Star always seems to stay true to course, and on point. Our true North is the innermost desire of our soul.

What you must understand is that we create with focus. The focal point of our imagination is our greatest tool. I like to call this our own magic wand. The life that we see in front of us is the result of how we focus our imagination. If you want to change your circumstances then you must change your focus. 5 Ways to Connect to Your Intuition

May is the month of Intuition and Mothers. These two go hand-in-hand. We have heard about mother’s intuition but the truth is, you don’t have to be a mother to be intuitive. I have heard the strange phenomenon of people who believe that mothers have intuition, and that it is very real, but psychics are charlatans. There are folks around me, even though I have been this way my whole life, who think that what I do and the rest of the intuitives who are out and proud, are laughable!

The amazing thing is that once you know how you get your intuition, you discover a whole new world for yourself. Here are five ways to help activate your intuition.

1. Meditate. Meditating for intuition, is like exercising for your health. Praying is talking to God and meditating is listening.

Meditating activates your third eye, called the, seat of your soul. The more you meditate, the stronger your intuition becomes over time.

2. Trust yourself. Think of all the times you made really good decisions from thinking things through. Affirming your abilities makes them stronger. Going to the gym regularly and telling yourself that you are stronger and stronger every day during your workouts, makes you stronger. Declare your intuitive abilities!

On day one of every Angel Therapy Certification Course before lunch, the whole class stands up to declare they are profoundly clairvoyant! Believing and trusting is such a huge part of hearing your guidance. I often tell my students that I feel like I’m literally picking things out of thin air when I give readings.

3. Spend time in nature. Your bare feet on the ground connects you to the magnetic currents of the Earth. We call it, grounding. You may have recently heard of it being called, earthing. Think of how good it feels to walk in the warm

sand. It feels so good because you are being magnetically pulled to the core of the earth. Feeling rooted and grounded makes us feel secure and tuned-in to the spiritual forces of nature. Think of how far down the roots of trees grow underground. Pondering nature clears away junk from your psychic vision.

4. Read spiritual books. I like to think of this as a quest. If you are looking for a book in the metaphysical section and it falls off the shelf, or you hear the title of a book three times or more, you are meant to read it. Many times I’ve gone to the bookstore on a hunt for my next treasure.

If there is only one book left, I take it as a sure sign. Reading about spirituality, metaphysics, divination and the mystical, opens your intuition. You are telling the Universe you are serious about being more intuitive.

5. Take an intuition class. You will be amazed at how much sense it makes when you discover your intuitive method.

It is a sense actually, like hearing, feeling and smelling. Practicing yoga at home is sweet! But going to a class from time to time gives you pointers and maybe nice suggestions from the expert, your teacher. Before long, triangle pose takes you to places you’ve never been before.

By Chef Deborah Lieder This time of year brings forth healing and rejuvenation, as the flowers are in bloom, the air is getting warmer and the sun shines upon us more. There is a sense of peace as Mother Nature nurtures her creations towards growth.

This is the yin, the feminine principal, and why we honor and celebrate women and mothers during this month. We have the opportunity to surrender to the natural flow of life, connecting with our wisdom and intuition on a deeper level. Out of this place, we naturally treat our bodies with greater love and care. Some of the best healing tonics for women are that of nettle, or stinging nettle. They are medicine for the body, treating a variety of ailments as they nourish your soul.

Nettles are a power herb in their ability to heal numerous imbalances within the body. They can be used in a variety of ways, from tea to salads, pastas, soups, and stews. In cheese making, nettles can replace rennet and have even been used to make fabric out of their strong fibers. For women, it balances and regulates the endocrine system, representing itself as a natural hormone therapy.

They help with hot flashes, night sweats, regulating menses, encourage lactation, stops post-partum bleeding, and have been used to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome. Not only do nettles encourage a woman’s health, they are fabulous for hay fever, anti-inflammatory properties, environmental toxins, urinary tract infections, improving metabolism, skin and hair, prostrate health, and they can even prevent baldness!

If using fresh nettles, they are best harvested in May and June. As the months progress, their “sting” has more of a bite and can prove challenging to harvest. A quick remedy involves rubbing the affected area with rosemary, mint or sage leaves. Nettles are one of the best herbs to consume, through leaf, root and

seeds, to maintain balance and harmony within the body.

Nettle Soup 2 T. Olive Oil 1 ea. Onion, large and roughly chopped 2 ea. Carrot, roughly chopped 2 ea. Celery, roughly chopped 2 ea. Parsnip, roughly chopped 5 ea. Baby Yukon Potatoes or 2 Regular, about 10 oz. roughly chopped ½ bunch Parsley 2 C. Fresh Nettle or 1 oz. dried 4 C. Stock – Chicken or Vegetable 2 T. Tahini Salt and Pepper to taste Instructions: Heat olive oil in pan. Add onion and sauté until translucent. Continue to add each vegetable, one at a time, and sauté for 3-5 minutes. Add in nettles and parsley and cover with stock. Allow to simmer for 30-45 minutes, until vegetables are soft. Transfer ingredients to a blender, and puree until desired texture. Add tahini, then salt and pepper to taste!

Being creative is a beautiful thing; it allows you to share yourself through a multitude of expressions. Creativity opens up a venue for you to emote the yearnings of your heart and soul and speak about your personal philosophies. Creative expression is the ultimate form of free speech; it provides the platform for you to contribute to your world.

To be able to express yourself creatively, you first need to know your creative identity; your creative identity is who you are and what you wish to share of yourself via your artistry. Your creative identity can be composed of the following: Your choice in artistic mediums which can be anything from painting, writing, and even acting. It’s up to you how you decide the ways in which you wish to represent your artfulness.

Then you’ll need to know, “Who am I, what do I wish to say and why do I want to say it?” Think about how you can express yourself with your work.

Some questions you may want to consider are: What do I believe in? Consider everything from philosophy, politics, spirituality, and even science!

What do I support? Is there a cause you believe in, or you wish to endorse?

What would I like to contribute? Are there any personal insights you want to share?

How can I help others? Is their a way for my art to help others?

If I could help, what could I do?

Knowing your creative identity may require some deep soulsearching and self-analysis. It may be a little intimidating and frightening at first, but stick with it! It’s well worth it. It will help you know yourself better so that you can be the best you, and ultimately help bring your true creative self to your work.

Hello, my friends, Hope everyone is loving and enjoying the exercises we’ve been doing. Happy Month of the mother (MOM) let’s celebrate mother love and higher joy.

We will do same exercises as last month’s with slightly different focus and different chants. It is good to simplify and focus We will work inward so focus inward like we have in earlier exercises on the flame at the base of our heart chakras.

As we did in those exercises, let’s begin with expanding that flame outward until it fills the room.

Lean forward slightly with your head, place your tongue to the roof of your mouth and take three deep breathes.

Focus on the warm within your heart and expansion. now focus on the top of the heart chakra opening up and blasting a flame of connection up through the back of the neck and top of the head.

Start with this chant, Oooommaahavahhaadhav, now meditate for 11 minute, set a timer. begin again with this chant, Shekiinaabayzhnuhah, now meditate again for 11 minutes. Don’t worry about a perfect pronunciation just feel the sounds of each letter.

Begin again with this chant Gaiamuhashryyayaydow, Now meditate again for 11 minutes.

Switch this up every day, one day do them all together, the next day split each part up at different times of the day. Do the first when you wake in the morning, second midday, and third before bedtime.

Switch it up as many different ways as you can come up with.

Let your self feel the expansion and connection.

Now focus on a very warm energy surrounding you feel the beautiful hug of mother earth and feel all that love for yourself.

Let yourself receive 1 million hugs!

The Warrior in You A Reflection on Courageous Grieving

If you have suffered the loss of a loved one, you know that the person that was you before your loss is not the same as the person you are right now. You might shake your head from time to time as the realization hits you that you have been changed so very much by what happened.

And change is hard to take… it is not welcomed, it does not feel comfortable and it forces you to work hard at a time when you are feeling depleted. Grief is an emotion that robs you of your energy which is the reason why it’s so important to understand that even though that is the case, you still have choices.

You can resist this inevitable change (which is life without your loved one) or you can surrender to it. The choice is hard to make but it’s not impossible. Surrender does not mean that you will forget your loved one or that it is not okay to grieve. It means that you are allowing the current of life to carry you in the direction that it is wisely taking you and that you are trusting in what happens next.

What can help you surrender is to tap into some of the strengths you have gained as a result of your loss. You may have lost your spouse unexpectedly and were used to leaning on his or her financial skills and now, have had to learn how to do this on your own. Or, you may have lost a child and had to fight like a mother bear for what was best for your child while he was ill (like I did) and so you gained resiliency and selfconfidence. Why is it helpful to draw from your strengths in order to surrender? Because surrender is not a passive thing; it is active and it requires resolve, self-awareness and courage; all of which are inner strengths.

Warrior in You who is trying to help you. This is what I call, “Courageous Grieving”. I am talking about that warrior that has allowed you to survive such a sad event, who has gotten stronger as a result of your experience of loss and who keeps you taking care of yourself and your loved ones. I am telling you that you are a warrior, even if you are feeling at your weakest. Are you ready to ask your inner warrior to come out of the shadows and help you at this time? If you are, this is what you can do: Begin each day, by saying to yourself: • I am grieving but this does not make me weak.

• It is normal to feel sad and to cry.

• I am a warrior in life and my strengths help me make it through this day.

• Each step forward I take is an indication of my strength.

• My loved one is watching me and is celebrating my efforts to move forward.

• I feel the love of my loved one and my heart benefits from its healing force.

When you choose to distract yourself with a myriad of activities or to not feel your feelings, you are resisting the reality of your loss. During the first couple of years after your loss, it is part of the normal grieving process to experience shock, disbelief, numbness, and to choose to distract, resist and/or not feel your feelings.

Masculine Energy Meets the Feminine Energy

of the uncomfortable feeling that had instantly surfaced when confronted with the idea of her and I working together.

For some time now I’ve wanted to get more intune with my breathing to help me acquire more lung capacity to enrich meditation, breath work and just for an overall healthier feeling. Ask and you shall receive! I had the good fortune of synchronistically coming across information on an upcoming introductory breath workshop that was taking place in April at the Emrich Retreat in Brighton, MI. It is perfectly nestled in the backwoods, providing a landscape that makes you feel safe and as if you went back in time.

Simple, clean, and circled by nature’s comfort.

The technique that would be used is called, “Biodynamic Breath Trauma Release” (BBTR). UBU TODAY (the host) is the only group in the United States that is trained for this application. In the beginning I was concerned; as far as I knew I did not have any major trauma in my past that needed to be addressed. UBU Today’s founder, Wendy Jo Morrison, reassured me that this work is for everyone. And even though the word trauma is used in its title, it is ideal for everyone. The majority of us do not breathe correctly, myself included.

To learn deep breathing is not only vital for good health, it has the power to remove old emotions that may be holding one’s current state hostage from a more fulfilling life.

Was there some emotional trauma lurking in my body hinting to be released? And was the feminine energy the key to allowing these stored beliefs an exit? I never realized that I, too, may have been carrying these doubts and fears for years. I began questioning myself and the “what if” kept pulling on my psyche.

Instantly, a wave of feeling victimized made its way through my body. I felt vulnerable, small and incomplete.

I knew I had to challenge this opportunity or keep this emotional charge from bringing out the best me I could have ever imagined.

“We are who we think we are.” The inner voice maintains its message until NEW reinforced data replaces it.

And breathing deeply, methodically, with beautiful compassionate intent, expresses a reality fit for a wonderful dream. Dreams do come true.

As we began our session, a flow of rhythmic breathing came in cadence with my heartbeat. With this, little by little, a flow of comfort chipped away at my initial resistance. As her soothing voice began to whisper “let go”, I found my body falling limp to her request. Upon the compassion of her support, the inner magic that came out of the experience had been exactly what was needed. “The masculine energy I carried needed to be balanced with the feminine energy in order to become WHOLE again.”

My experience during the five day retreat can be seen as soft, subtle and transformational. On the last day, I had partnered up with a lovely lady for our last intensive biodynamic breathing session. Prior to her I was partnered with two males. Although the experience was appreciated, I intuitively knew something within still needed attending to.

I saw that I had been inherently afraid to show the nurturing side that men are often scolded for by allowing it to be expressed. I felt powerful, strong, confident and approachable all in ONE. At that moment, my left and right hemispheres became balanced, and when that happens a rush of serotonin commenced to quench the thirst my MIND BODY & SOUL had been longing for. This

That day her feminine energy danced elegantly with her masculine energy that had been away for far too long. As I witnessed first-hand how transformational this work had been for me, I was left with an inner-standing that our journey here may be to connect our masculine and feminine energies in order to be of a higher service to all.
