Season 2005 saw a new level of professionalism with the introduction of a certified trainer in Perry Tzamouranis and his assistant Luke. This resulted in a more structured training programme centred around both fitness and activities that simulated refereeing actions on the field. There were three fitness tests held with results showing improvements for those who participated. We would like to thank both Perry and Luke for their efforts this year. There was a marked improvement in training numbers from previous years with the average being 18. Well done to those who attended as they not only gained valuable fitness, but also received coaching tips, which were conducted on a weekly basis. Apart from fitness, training nights were used to discuss with the coaches any problems with match performances as well as participation in drills including 10metre drills, scrums and positioning. The coaching and development committee held a number of development programs during the year to help improve refereeing performances. These included: - Seminar which covered these topics and speakers: (a) Career Path from District to Development Squad – Tom Healey (b) Fitness and Nutrition – Perry Tzamouranis (c) Appointments Board Restructure – John McCormack (d) Judiciary Procedures – Paul Archer (e) Communications Gear – Mohamad Fajajo (f) Rules Quiz – Richard Daizli - Rules exam: results showed that we are not consulting our rulebook on a regular basis. Getting the rules correct are the basic fundamentals of refereeing. Also David Abood gave fortnightly quizzes highlighting the importance in this area. - Video sessions: Two sessions were held and covered decision-making, communication, match day preparation and rulings. - Fitness test: this included a 2.4km run, 70 metre sprints and an agility run. 19
