A Grand View Wedding: Brunch and Bubbly

Grand View Lodge has long established itself as one of the premier wedding venues in lake country. Whether you are a local planning your dream wedding or traveling to the resort because it is the perfect spot for your destination wedding, the location on the shores of beautiful Gull Lake will not disappoint.

The gorgeous property offers exquisite photography possibilities and multiple options no matter how many people make up the size of your guest list. Both intimate ceremonies and larger weddings are accommodated flawlessly at Grand View.

While a ceremony accompanied by the afternoon sun sounds lovely, events earlier in the day are gaining steam in popularity, too. A brunch wedding is a new trend for couples

that is perfect for a smaller group and can mean a relaxing and rewarding way to celebrate.

The Brunch & Bubbly package is an option that more couples have begun to enjoy. Perfect for a smaller group of 25 to 75 guests, the Chapel at Grand View offers a beautiful ceremony. Following the wedding, the options are endless for ways to keep the celebration going with your friends and family by moving to a fun and intimate dining venue. Cru offers a fine-dining atmosphere, complete with a wine cellar and fireplace. The North Hotel offers Discover, which provides a more modern vibe and beautiful private patio area. Headwaters, located in the lower level of the historic Main Lodge, provides a cozy private dining area with natural light and fireplace. Celebrate with a delightful brunch menu. Take it

to the next level by adding a raw bar or chef action station. Don’t forget to toast your new life together with a mimosa or Bloody Mary bar.

A wedding earlier in the day means you have the rest of the day to enjoy the other offerings at Grand View Lodge such as the spa, a tee time on one of the award-winning golf courses, or time together on the lake or relaxing in one of the resort pools.

Host your wedding at Grand View Lodge and everything you need in your downtime is within walking distance for the entire weekend. Retail shops, coffee shops, breathtaking scenery and delicious food are all located on the grounds and just a relaxing stroll away.

Book your wedding for later this year or lock in a date for 2025 and let the wedding staff at the resort help make your dreams come true.

Love, Joy and Timeless Elegance

Imagine saying "I do" in a venue that's not just a place, but a celebration of love, family and the beautiful tapestry of relationships that make your day unforgettable. Here, at The Barn at Stoney Hills, you are invited to celebrate your union in a setting that transcends the ordinary, where the sacredness of marriage mirrors the depth of your commitment.

Since 1989, Randy and Joni Hamson have poured love and dedication into Stoney Hills, transforming it into a beacon of warmth and hospitality. This family-operated gem goes beyond expectations, offering personalized service in an atmosphere that's genuinely welcoming.

The comprehensive three-day rental package offers multiple options to design your wedding weekend for your memorable celebration, including the charming Farmhouse, The Barn itself, luxurious Bridal and Groom's Suites, and a selection of four stunning ceremony sites. The Barn, capable of hosting up to 350 guests, embodies elegance and grace, ensuring that your wedding is nothing short of spectacular.

North Point is on a hill overlooking a pristine waterway complete with arch. The Courtyard is behind The Barn complete with a wedding pergola. The Cross is tucked along a lush green clover field complete with a wooden cross and The Loft is located inside The Barn for

inclement weather and can be customized for your preferences. There is an option to choose a church wedding ceremony further highlighting the sacredness of the marriage union.

Arriving on Friday at The Barn at Stoney Hills sets the stage for a weekend of celebration, allowing the couple ample time to infuse the venue with their personal touch. This early arrival is more than just practical, it's an invitation to immerse in the anticipation and joy of the moments that lead up to the ceremony. It's a day for creativity and connection, as the spaces are adorned to reflect the essence of the love being celebrated. The evening progresses into the wedding rehearsal and groom’s dinner, offering a relaxed, intimate setting for friends and family to bond and revel in the happiness of the couple.

Saturday is reserved for the heart of the celebration. Without the rush of last-minute preparations, the day begins with a leisurely pace, dedicated to getting ready. It's a time filled with laughter and reflection, with special moments captured in photos that will tell the story of this blessed day for years to come. The ceremony itself is a sacred affair, where the couple and their loved ones are fully present, cherishing words and gestures that embodies their commitment and love. As the day transitions into evening, the reception unfolds effortlessly, evolving from heartfelt toasts to a

vibrant dance floor, where memories are made under the stars.

The beauty of this schedule lies in the absence of hurry. With pick-up and clean-up reserved for the following day, there’s no need to pause the celebration, no need to worry about the practicalities until the weekend is truly over. This thoughtful planning ensures the sacred union is celebrated not just in a day, but in a weekend-long experience that honors the depth of the couple’s journey and the joy of their union. It’s a testament to the understanding that marriage is not just a moment, but a lifelong journey, starting with a weekend where time is savored and details cherished.

Indeed, having a behind-the-scenes venue manager can be incredibly beneficial for ensuring smooth operations and addressing any issues that may arise during the wedding weekend. Additionally, the option to choose your own caterer and beverage options can be a significant money saver for the wedding budget. By having control over these aspects, couples can tailor their choices to suit their tastes and budget constraints more effectively.

You are invited to step into the world of The Barn at Stoney Hills, from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations, the versatility of our space allows for the perfect expression of your love. Book a tour, explore the offerings, and let them be the canvas for your most cherished day.

Dynamite Reflections can supply it all

When you are putting your wedding plans into place you will start to envision what the reception room will look like and any activities your guest might enjoy while celebrating your day. Dynamite Reflections will help you host the perfect celebration.

Owner Karie Lynn has owned Dynamite Reflections in the lakes area for over 20 years, helping couples set the mood for a day they will always remember. Backdrops can turn any room into a fantasy world. Utilize them behind the table for the wedding party, to highlight a desired area or cover up a space. Draping is available in almost any color to enhance your other décor. Add twinkling lights and complete the whole vibe for your celebration.

Dynamite Reflections can provide uplighting for the room and elegant draping to go on the ceiling of the

rehearsal space too.

Staff will take care of the set up before the party and take down when the night is over, which is one less thing for you to worry about.

Specific letters and words are available for rent from Dynamite Reflections to serve as backdrops and decoration. Rent a greenery wall, white rose wall backdrop, marquee letters, neon signs or other decorations that will add to your setting. Columns and arches for your ceremony and reception are also available.

After the vows have been exchanged, the toasts have been made and the tables moved to the side, it is time to truly relax with your guests. Cue the music, lights and fun. Dynamite Reflections can supply it all.

Photo booths are a popular way to add fun to your celebration for

you and your guests. Posing with the happy couple and one another offers another way for everyone to remember the big day.

“Some couples worry about the pressure they might feel if they contact a company to help decorate for their wedding,” says owner Karie Lynn. “They shouldn’t expect that from us. They may not be 100 percent sure of what they need but we won’t push them into anything. I want them to be comfortable that we are the right fit.”

Dynamite Reflections will meet with you, consider the size of the venue, the amount of backdrop you desire, and the theme of your wedding and then help you choose the best materials to use to create your vision. Contact Dynamite Reflections to see what they can do for you at 888-4977436 or visit dynamitereflections.com.

Your beautiful little micro wedding

A new trend you may be hearing about is the micro wedding. Although they have been around forever in one form or another, it is now becoming the thing to do for couples who want to go in a different direction than traditional weddings. Whether you want to save money or would rather share your special day with a select group of family and friends, the micro wedding is an option more couples are turning to.

What is a micro wedding?

As the name suggests, a micro wedding is a much smaller affair than the traditional wedding. Instead of planning for 150 or more guests, this type of ceremony usually has a maximum of 50. One of the many perks of the micro wedding is you can still have all the bells and whistles of a traditional wedding without the headache and costs.

The intimacy of a micro wedding appeals to those who want to mark

this special day and celebrate their nuptials with close family and friends. For couples tempted to elope or go to a courthouse because of the stress and drama a traditional wedding can sometimes cause, the micro wedding is an alternative that can be quiet, elegant and meaningful for all in attendance.

Pick a place

Your micro wedding can happen just about anywhere you can imagine.

12 | WEDDINGS NORTH 2024

Because it is a small event, you do not have to research dozens of places and juggle time slots to fit in unless you choose a very popular venue. Your micro wedding can be a faraway destination spot on an island somewhere, your favorite bowling alley, the park you played in as a child, even your own backyard.

Couples have shared their

vows on the steps of national monuments, libraries, art museums and other notable places. Believe it or not, some couples have gotten married at Walmart and Target. There are no limits to the venues that can be made available for your special day. However, why not take advantage of the beauty of the Brainerd lakes area and choose a romantic spot for your ceremony.

Land or lakes

The Brainerd lakes area provides a plethora of locations for intimate micro weddings. Some venues help with planning and others provide minimal support.

For example, Cragun’s has just what you need to plan the perfect micro wedding. According to their wedding and events manager, Nicole Stettler, they offer a variety of choices. “Want to just get away and have a ceremony and weekend for the two of you? We can provide the witnesses as well.”

Cragun’s Gull Lake Cruises provides a perfect setting for a lake wedding. Their luxury yacht, The North Star, accommodates 20 to 116 guests. The upper deck, which gives a beautiful view of Gull Lake, is perfect for nuptials and you will not need to leave the yacht for the wedding dinner. Have them cater a delicious meal on the lower deck. They also have two bars on board. Enjoy yourselves inside or out on The North Star. Cragun’s has other offerings as well. Activities to consider include:

• Pontoon cruises with or without a personal driver

• Sunset cruis es

• Live music in the Pub, on the Sundeck overlooking the bay or at Irma’s Kitchen

• Carriage rides

• Golf rounds

• Jet skis

• Fishing boats

“The tradition of micro weddings is about finding your own adventure. To some that’s relaxing on the beach or next to a bonfire and for others who like to go, we have that, too. You can create your own adventure.”

Nicole said they can even supply the officiant for weddings with 30 or fewer guests.

Northland Arboretum also has a variety of spots for the intimate wedding. For those who are more inclined to revel in nature, the Arboretum sits on 400 acres. If you love flowers you will want to check out the Garden Gazebo, a standard for outdoor weddings. They also have an indoor space with a fireplace for a romantic setting.

Another venue couples have come to love for the service and friendly atmosphere is the Gallery. Family owned and operated, this event center is located in Crosslake. You can have access to their lodging which consists of a beautiful cozy two-bedroom cottage on Ox Lake, located on 12 acres with a private access to the beach. If you have wedding guests staying overnight, the Up North Lodge Gathering Place sleeps 15 guests.

History buffs may prefer the Northern Pacific Center located in Brainerd. The historic setting in the NP railroad yards has a rustic feel with ballroom elegance. With various venues available, you are sure to find one that fits your micro wedding needs.

Let your imagination go

The micro wedding often takes less space, less hassle, less money and less stress to plan and implement. That means you get to dream about your best day with more options available. You get to plan a unique event tailored to your specific tastes.

Go for it! Because after all, less can be much more!

Matthew and KennedyFRANSEN

HOW WE MET:

In 2014, my cousin Claire introduced me to Matthew. Claire and Matthew went to the same high school and had been friends for years prior. After being introduced, we dated throughout high school and college. After college we moved to Wisconsin and couldn’t wait for the next journey. We continued to date for eight years before getting engaged.

After we moved to Wisconsin, I had a few girlfriends in town for the night. My friends had planned for us to go to a location to watch the sunset and take pictures together before heading out for dinner. Once we got to the site, I was surprised to see a beautiful proposal setup and a photographer capturing the moment. Matthew got down on one knee and it was the easiest “yes” of my life!

WEDDING RECAP:

After a little over a year of wedding planning, we got married on June 24, 2023, at Breezy Point Resort. The weather on our wedding day was rainy, but couldn’t take anything away from our special day. We got married under the pavilion at Antlers and celebrated looking out over the lake back at the resort. After a rainy but gorgeous wedding day we were Mr. and Mrs. and couldn’t wait to start this next chapter of our lives. We couldn’t have pulled off this day without our amazing vendors, friends and family.

Madisyn and RenoFUSSY

HOW WE MET:

Reno and I have known each other for over 15 years. My first impression was "my best friend's little brother is annoying.” Reno's was more along the lines of “‘I'm going to date her some day.’”

Through my friendship with his sister Rylie, our narrative stayed somewhat the same as we witnessed each other grow and hit life's milestones. It wasn't until the Summer of 2021 that fate decided to intervene.

That summer I decided to move back to the Brainerd lakes area and Rylie asked if I'd golf in a Sunday couples’ league if she found me a partner. As someone who loves to golf, I said yes and she ended up pairing me with Reno.

After a couple of Sundays, I found myself looking forward to our Sunday league because it meant I got to see him. The nervous excitement leading up to the tee time would quickly turn into a fun, relaxing energy as soon as we got into the golf cart together.

It took me a few months to build up the courage and tell him I liked him. Thankfully the feeling was mutual.

Photography by Tayler Dumas Photography.

I planned a few surprises for Reno's birthday — one being a morning tee time at Deacon's Lodge. Little did I know, he was the one with the bigger surprise!

While we were waiting on the 5th tee box to tee off, Reno asked if I could grab him a golf ball from his bag because he forgot to bring one up with him. I opened up his bag to find only one golf ball which had a bow wrapped around it.

You'd think I would have caught on to what was about to happen then but I didn't.

When I handed him the golf ball, he got down on one knee and opened the ball up revealing the engagement ring. Best surprise of my life.

PROPOSAL/ ENGAGEMENT STORY:

WEDDING RECAP:

What a fun day! It was important to Reno and I that our wedding felt like us. We started the weekend with a golf scramble on Friday at Madden’s Pine Beach West Course with our family and friends — thankfully both mine and Reno’s teams secured the win! We enjoyed an intimate rehearsal dinner with our bridal party playing lawn games and enjoying barbecue on the shores of Gull Lake. It was a wonderful way to kick off our most memorable weekend. We woke to a beautiful summer day on Saturday, Sept. 2.

After the fun and laughs of getting ready with our wedding parties, we were ready to say “I do!” on the Pavilion Lawn at Madden’s. After the ceremony, we enjoyed signature cocktails on the patio, followed by dinner and dancing the night away! During the reception, I remember looking around the room and feeling overwhelmed with happiness — it was so amazing to see all of the people who have made such an impact on our lives there supporting our marriage.

The day goes by so fast. Take time to enjoy the little moments and soak everything in.

Unforgettable Minnesota Weddings

Plan your dream wedding at the Linden Hill Historic Estate in Little Falls. Our unique, historic venue is nestled along the banks of the Mississippi River and offers an unforgettable wedding experience with endless possibilities.

Whether you envision an intimate gathering in a luxurious, historic setting or a larger gathering amid the natural landscape of aged oaks, sprawling lawns and riverside gardens, Linden Hill is the perfect place to say “I do.”

The 1898-built Musser mansion provides a historic, yet timeless backdrop for a memorable wedding weekend. Offering majestic living and dining rooms, spacious getting ready areas, commercial kitchen facilities and overnight accommodations for 25 guests, the mansion will serve as your home away from home for the weekend. Designed by architect Clarence H. Johnston and furnished with original family heirlooms, the mansion serves as a beautiful location for capturing incredible photos, lodging the wedding party, hosting the rehearsal dinner or post-wedding brunch and everything in between.

The Pavilion is situated on the upper

grounds of the estate and provides a seasonal gathering space perfect for hosting mid-sized dinner receptions, dances and other wedding-related festivities. With the beautiful Linden Hill mansions in the background, the sprawling front lawn is a great place for your guests to enjoy yard games or take a walk to admire the gardens.

Boasting over nine acres of carefully manicured lawns and landscaped gardens, the estate grounds can accommodate larger groups for outdoor ceremonies and receptions with spectacular riverside views. The grounds also offer endless opportunities for capturing photos, videos and memories to last a lifetime.

Linden Hill’s wedding packages are built with more time in mind to ensure you and your guests can make the very most out of this special occasion. Our knowledgeable, friendly staff will help guide your planning and connect you with vendors who can bring your wedding day to life. Custom packages are also available for those looking to elope or plan something less traditional.

The Weyerhaeuser Mansion (green)

situated next door to the Musser Mansion (white) serves as a seasonal museum where we tell the stories of the families who once made their homes at Linden Hill. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization caring for the property, our mission is to preserve and share the history and spirit of the Musser/ Weyerhaeuser estate on the Mississippi River. The museum is one of the many ways we work to preserve the past and provide educational experiences to visitors and guests. Museum tours can be made available to your wedding party or guests upon request, and it is a great way for your family and friends to learn more about the history of Linden Hill.

At Linden Hill Historic Estate, we strive to provide an unforgettable wedding experience to all who celebrate here. After each wedding group departs, we feel as though we have gained another “family” in the process. We would be honored to be part of your special day and the memories you will cherish for a lifetime to come.

Say ‘I do” to

wedding technology

“You’re going to get some breathtaking video. It’s an inexpensive option for wedding photography.”
— Chad Lenk
24 | WEDDINGS NORTH 2024
] [
[
]

The wedding planning basics are well known: date, venue, officiant, invitations, photographer, food and cake. The list is getting longer as technology intertwines into the celebration. Now planning lists may also include a wedding website, drone videographer, Snapchat Geofilter, and more. Here’s your quick guide to wedding tech trends.

Social media crowdsourcing

To get started on planning, Samantha Ward, of Arlington, Minnesota, turned to Facebook Groups shortly after getting engaged. Ward searched for “Minnesota wedding groups” on Facebook to find resources.

“I was able to find some pretty cool ideas by looking at other brides’ pictures and recommendations in these groups,” said Ward.

After getting recommendations on both styles and vendors from other brides, Ward would research the short list of vendors with her now husband Donavan Ward.

Facebook Groups are also used after the wedding to post a summary of the vendors used with reviews. Many brides will include a quick line or two about pros and cons of each vendor as well as an informal 1 to 10 rating. In browsing the wedding groups, it’s clear many vendors are active as well.

Additionally, after the wedding is complete, some couples will post decorations they no longer need for sale within the groups.

Wedding website and digital RSVP

Couples are creating their wedding websites shortly after setting the date. Websites typically include day of details, travel accommodations, how the couple met, and a little info about each member of the wedding party. A popular option is TheKnot.com for its free template.

Paired with the wedding website is a digital RSVP. This helps keep RSVPs organized, saves on a stamp and keeps guests from handwriting in +7.

Digital wedding program

Taking the wedding website to the next level is providing a digital program the day of the wedding that links back to the website.

“There’s no use in wasting all of that paper when everyone just throws it away afterwards!” said Ward.

Ward’s wedding in December 2022 in Crosslake, Minnesota, also included QR codes posted around the venue to allow guests easy access to the digital wedding program.

Drone videography and photography

The next phase in capturing a wedding on film is drone video coverage. Commercial drones can be programmed to follow the bride and groom down the aisle and complete a full circle around them. Chad Lenk from Microlenk Technologies in Brainerd assures these special “Hollywood effects” won’t impede the ceremony with any distracting noise.

“You’re going to get some breathtaking video,” said Lenk. “It’s an inexpensive option for wedding photography.”

Commercial drones, which require special certification to fly, can work in sunshine, clouds, rain, and snow. The limitations are if there are wind gusts of 30 mph or higher.

Some couples are hiring photographers who can use drones for engagement photos.

“Our photographer used a drone to capture some of our coolest engagement photos,” said Ward.

Livestreaming

Livestreaming, which first became popular in 2020, is still being used at and before the wedding. Couples can choose to livestream the ceremony for guests unable to attend. Additionally, brides can livestream their wedding dress shopping to get opinions from friends and family around the country.

3D printed cake toppers

Gone are the days of finding a generic cake topper where the only resemblance is the hair

color of the bride and groom. Couples can now 3D print a custom cake topper to create miniature versions of themselves. When researching this option, couples are encouraged to coordinate their 3D printing plans with their wedding cake baker.

“3D print would be a wonderful way to go if you’re thinking of the traditional wedding toppers,” said Chris Skarp of Brainerd Lakes Cakes.

The 3D printed options typically weigh less than the old fashioned resin toppers so don’t require support columns to be included within the cake. 3D toppers also offer more flexibility such as including lighting within the topper.

“As a cake designer I’m always looking for something different,” said Skarp. “I’m always looking for new options to make the wedding cake unique and stand out.”

At the reception

There are a variety of ways to ramp up the fun at a reception using technology. Interactive photos booths, DJs with large screens to show music videos during the dance and creating a custom Snapchat Geofilter. The custom filter allows your guests to get in on the festivities and then creates a unique way to capture special moments.

Photo booths can do more than print out pictures on the spot. They can email photos right away as well as save a digital copy of each picture from the night for the wedding party to enjoy looking at another day. Some photo booths can also create short videos and GIFs from the night that can be shared via text, email or social media.

What next?

Thinking of teching-up your wedding but not sure where to start? Ward offers this advice: “My suggestion, if you want to incorporate tech in your wedding, there are so many tutorials to make it easy to do! I’d never created a Snapchat Geofilter before, but a quick Google search showed me the ropes and it took minutes to complete.”

DESSERTS, DRESSES AND Dynamic Trends

Weddings look a lot different today than they did years ago. From the style of the wedding gown to the food that is served and everything else about the big day.

More than ever, today’s weddings are really a personalized way to make lasting memories with your family and friends, sometimes using more than one day filled with events and activities to enhance the celebration.

Hosting a wedding in 2024 may include giving gifts to your guests or offering a variety of candy options at the reception. One thing remains the same, however, it is your day to celebrate your way.

Bridal Attire

“One notable shift in bridal fashion is the move towards unconventional color choices,” says Kendra Johnson from Gathered Gold Co. in Brainerd. While the classic white wedding dress remains timeless, many brides are exploring alternative hues that resonate with their individual style. Soft pastels, blush tones and even daring jewel tones are becoming increasingly popular, adding a touch of modern flair to the traditional bridal ensemble.

“Brides are opting for dresses that break away from the conventional A-line or ball gown styles. A rising number of brides are choosing sleek, minimalist

sheath dresses, jumpsuits and two-piece ensembles that offer comfort without compromising on elegance. Brides in the Brainerd lakes area are gravitating towards statement headpieces, vintage veils and bold jewelry to add a touch of personality and uniqueness to their attire.”

Shopping for a bridal gown used to mean finding one single dress that you loved. But it wasn’t always comfortable for 12 or more hours. Today’s brides have found as they move from the ceremony to reception and on to the dance, changing into a different dress or outfit that allows them to move more freely can be relaxing and rewarding. Sometimes this means

changing into a shorter style dress, or even pants or shorts later in the day.

Wedding Weekends

The single day of the wedding, loaded with preparations, the ceremony sometimes leaves little time to really enjoy the rare opportunity to gather all the couple’s friends and families in one spot together. Spreading the events out into a weekend celebration has become exceedingly popular. It offers a bonus opportunity to spend more time with friends and family.

Joining together for tee times on a local golf course, time out on a lake, or scheduling a friendly competition of flag football, pickleball or another activity offers a block of time to really enjoy yourself with your group.

Rice Creek Wedding Venue (Hunting and Recreation) in Little Falls is one place that offers a complete wedding weekend experience for the wedding couple. Set on 1,500 beautiful acres, the location is a photographer’s dream and the onsite spacious event center hosts up to 300 guests.

From the bride’s arrival on Friday, when decorating can begin, the wedding party is able to make themselves at home until checkout on Sunday. Krista, the general manager of Rice Creek, says they pride themselves on offering a couple of ways to enjoy their entire weekend at a relaxed stress-free place.

Saturday mornings are set aside to offer bonus activities when the wedding party and guests can shoot sporting clays, trap or handguns while the bridal party gets ready and makes final preparations for the ceremony that can be held at the outdoor wedding theater.

Last year Rice Creek hosted 22 weddings on the preserve.

Gifts for your Guests

The wedding program has long been the memento for wedding guests. Today couples often give their guests a way to remember their day by offering a carefully chosen useful or sentimental item for each guest to take with them at the end of the night. Coasters, can koozies, mints, jars of honey, jams or jellies, garden seeds or other keepsakes are all popular items. Sometimes gifts include a personalized message, or the couple’s name and wedding date.

Surprise Desserts

This is the season of the surprise dessert. While beautiful wedding cakes with multiple tiers remain a popular celebratory

dessert, there are endless other options for your dessert table. From decorative cookies, cupcakes or other baked goods, a candy bar loaded with classic favorites, flavorful cake pops, cheesecake and even doughnuts are all new options for wedding couples.

Desserts, dresses and the dynamics of a wedding may change from year to year, but the reason for the celebration still stays the same. It is the magical beginning of your new life together.

Versatile venue offers countless opportunities

Weddings and the weather have so much in common and it isn’t just that they both start with “w.” The saying goes, “You’re in Minnesota. Give it 5 minutes and the weather will change,” as do the trends of weddings, season after season.

One thing that Cragun’s Resort, Golf & Conference prides themselves on is the ability to adapt to not only the changing of the weather each season but also to wedding trends.

Upon arrival, you’ll find the charming nostalgia that is Cragun’s. The versatility of the venue spaces provides countless opportunities to match any trend. Whether you’re looking for a beach, modern, rustic, minimalist, bohemian, classic, romantic,

and the list goes on, Cragun’s has something for everyone.

As couples are venturing out to find more intimate options, Cragun’s Gull Lake Cruises is an exceptional venue to host the most intimate of weddings. Don’t settle for the ordinary when it comes to your wedding day. Turn your special day into an unforgettable wedding ceremony and reception aboard one of the most unique wedding venues in Minnesota on the waters of beautiful Gull Lake. Let Gull Lake Cruises help you with planning and give you a spectacular outdoor venue for your once-in-a-lifetime event.

If you’re set on a traditional church wedding, you can still turn your reception into a party your friends and family will be talking about for years to come. The North Star can hold

up to 116 passengers, or 92 passengers with a dining event, and we’ll customize the yacht with as many flowers, pictures and videos as you’d like. Your wedding party will board the North Star at Cragun’s Resort on Gull Lake. Ask about our other location pick-ups.

A resort rooted in love, expanded with a desire to bring families together and a tradition of bringing everyone back. For some it started with an engagement, a wedding, anniversary trips and ultimately family reunions. The love stories that started here continue on.

A Roundhouse Rehearsal and Reception

Roundhouse Brewery in Nisswa isn’t just a fabulous place to meet up with friends for a pint and a great spot to take in some entertainment. It is a popular taproom in the area, but it is also the perfect spot to host your wedding reception or rehearsal dinner, too.

Separate from the taproom is a two-level event center called The Union Station. The newly remodeled event space can hold up to 150 guests and features a warm seating area with a white-washed knotty pine interior and a charming roof-top patio for taking in the sunset or listening to the evening’s entertainment below. Roundhouse Brewery has an on-site kitchen which means they can also work with you on the menu to help provide the food for your reception or rehearsal dinner. The brewery has an event planner to help with all the details of your event and personnel will also be provided during the party to help with everything you need.

Roundhouse’s Wreck Room, the brewery’s axe throwing room has become the perfect complement to a wedding event at the brewery. Let your guests

try their hand at a new activity or show off their skills at axe throwing. While it has been around for a long time, axe throwing gets more popular every year and it is the perfect way to offer some additional fun and friendly competition

to your celebration.

Dreamy wedding desserts

Imagine this. It’s the morning of your wedding day. You smell the coffee brewing and on the table is a plate full of fresh baked pastries from Reed’s for you, your family, and friends to enjoy. Every part of the day has been planned out beautifully and the piéce de résistance, second only to your own beauty as the bride, is the wedding cake. Beautifully done by the professionals at Reed’s Bakery in Crosslake, the cake stands as a vision of elegance, the perfect dessert for a most magnificent day.

Or maybe cake isn’t your thing. Today’s brides have a variety of options when it comes to the reception centerpiece. You can choose traditional wedding cake, themed cakes, cupcakes, doughnuts, even cookies or bars. Whatever you decide, Salena Snow, the bakery’s manager, will make sure your wedding dessert is created to your personal specifications.

Reed’s Bakery has the most delicious toppings and fillings to ensure your wedding dessert not only looks sumptuous but tastes as lovely as it looks. Select your favorites when you and your partner are treated to a complimentary cake tasting. Marble, chocolate, and white cakes are their specialty, and among the most popular choices.

If you are choosing a wedding cake as your centerpiece, after making your flavor selections, the next step is deciding how you would like your cake decorated. ”Naked” cakes are popular. This delicious cake with little or no frosting and a minimalistic look is perfect for a rustic or simple wedding. Reed’s Bakery can also do highly specialized decorations from a picture you supply. Choose a tiered cake with pillars or two cakes connected with a bridge. From simple to highly detailed, your centerpiece will be a beautiful focal point for the reception.

Let Reed’s Bakery handle delivery and set up for a reasonable fee. Your centerpiece will be safely transported and property positioned in the space you desire. If you prefer, the bakery will have it ready and waiting for pick up. Either way, you and your guests are in for a delicious treat when you make the decision to use Reed’s Bakery for your wedding day centerpiece.

Molly and AdamWALCH

HOW WE MET:

Adam and I overlapped for a year at Anoka High School but never knew of each other as it is a very big school. We crossed paths in college a few times while dating mutual friends but didn’t click right away. For most of our 20s, we were both figuring life out, maturing into real adults and never getting the timing right to give a relationship a go.

Finally, the stars aligned in February 2019, and Adam planned our first date. We caught up for hours over boxed red wine and covered all the things you shouldn’t on a first date (politics, religion, you name it) before he left the next day for a two-week trip to Europe with his family. We talked every day while he was gone; I picked him and his parents up from the airport and we’ve been together ever since. We love to travel, relax at family cabins and watch bad reality TV. We bought our house and a Bernedoodle puppy named Blue in April 2020, then the pandemic happened. I found out I was pregnant with our first daughter, and we kicked off a massive home renovation all within a month of each other. Quinn was born in January 2021 and a wedding was the last thing on our minds.

PROPOSAL/ ENGAGEMENT STORY:

It was November 2021 and I had very strong suspicions the proposal was coming because Adam planned out every detail of a trip for just the two of us to The Florida Keys, whereas I typically like to do the planning. We flew into Miami and drove the scenic route. We were having a great time, but I was very impatient because I had a surprise of my own.

The room was elaborately decorated for a proposal when we arrived, I said yes and we quickly called our loved ones with the news. Afterward we walked down to the beach bar where I told him I wasn’t drinking because, surprise, we were pregnant again! We came home to tell our equally surprised families that we had set a date, but it was a due date and not a wedding date. Our second daughter Maeve was born in July 2022. Having two girls under 2 was crazy and it wasn’t until January 2023 that we got serious about finally planning a wedding.

WEDDING PLANNING:

Both sides of our family have homes in Crosslake. We have great memories in the area already and will continue to spend lots of time here with our growing family. The Catalyst is a beautiful venue, on the water and the perfect combination of modern and woodsy. It was important to us to use local vendors and they really made our day. We planned a weekend-long bash with rehearsal dinner and post-wedding pool party at The GetAway in Pequot Lakes. Our entire wedding party and their guests stayed with us all weekend.

WEDDING RECAP:

The wedding day itself flew by so quickly. We had to make a last-minute switch from an outdoor ceremony to using the upstairs chapel space because of a torrential downpour and what a beautiful space! We did a few things non-traditionally and I loved how the day felt completely “us.” Our girls drove down the aisle in a white remote-controlled car, a definite crowd pleaser. Close family friends married us. There were two social hours (before and after the ceremony) that Catalyst is laid out perfectly for. Lots of compliments on the food and music, shuttles went by without a hitch. We had fun outfit changes because why not? We always joke that we have never done anything “in order” and this wedding and marrying my husband was all worth the wait.

Two locations, one mission: Dunmire’s provides exceptional food and stress-free experience

Chris Dunmire has been catering weddings since he was 14 and working for his father. With a lifetime of experience and a talented crew at both his restaurants, Dunmire’s Bar and Grill in East Brainerd, and Dunmire’s On The Lakes on North Long Lake, he and his team can cater and host any event, large or small.

Are you searching for a venue to host a special party or event? Or is your dream wedding spot on a beach or in a wooded (yet close to town) location? If so, Dunmire’s can accommodate both types of “up north” wedding experiences. Dunmire’s Bar and Grill in East Brainerd offers a grassy, wooded outdoor area for weddings and other parties, while Dunmire’s On The Lakes is quickly becoming a popular wedding destination for couples who want a beach wedding or a lakeside wedding reception in the Brainerd Lakes area. The North Long Lake restaurant features 700 feet of lakeshore plus a nearby rental house that can sleep up to 15 guests.

Dunmire’s, with two locations, has the

Dunmire’s has the best food around. They offer over 120 food items couples can choose from for their wedding guests. Their menus are designed to ensure there is something for everyone. Quality food is essential for every special event. After all, the food is something your guests will remember long after your wedding day.

“Everyone wants good food at their wedding,” Dunmire explains. “Anything to do with feeding them and partying, we’ve got it.”

Burgers, pizzas, pasta, ribeye steak, walleye, lobster and seafood platters are among their many offerings. You’ll always find your favorite meal on the menu at a Dunmire’s restaurant. In fact, Dunmire’s On The Lakes was featured on “America’s Best Restaurants Roadshow” in 2023 because of its quality food, its lakeside location and its well-earned reputation as a local, independently-owned restaurant in the Brainerd lakes area.

Not only is quality food important for a successful wedding or other event, but it’s equally important to Dunmire that these parties are stress-free for the hosts. He wants couples

accommodate couples who want a dressy, formal wedding or an informal party where everyone arrives by boat in shorts and T-shirts.

Dunmire understands how overwhelming event planning can be, especially for those planning the perfect wedding. Your venue is important. It sets the stage for your entire celebration. The wedding couple must navigate many decisions along the way, including budget considerations. After years spent working in the restaurant industry, he understands what guests want and need from the venue. That’s why Dunmire’s is a “one-stop shop.” His staff will work with wedding parties to make sure everything runs seamlessly.

“We’re super easy to get a hold of any time of day,” Dunmire says. “It’s an easy process to work with us. We work on your terms.”

Wedding couples sometimes forget about one crucial aspect of wedding venue planning: accessibility. Fortunately, both Dunmire’s locations are easily accessible from both major highways that run through Brainerd, yet still provide that “up north” feel that couples want for their wedding day in the Brainerd lakes area. The East Brainerd restaurant is located right off Highway 210, while the North Long Lake restaurant is on Highway 371 north of Baxter, both close to many hotel options. Not only are both locations accessible by car (and by boat on North Long Lake), but both restaurants offer close parking and a variety of seating options. Want to get married on the beach with your elderly grandparents able to sit on the deck above and watch the entire ceremony? Dunmire’s On The Lake can offer these types of essential accommodations. Everyone should feel comfortable and enjoy themselves on your special day.

Dunmire emphasizes his team will work with you to create the type of wedding or special event you envision. They want your wedding to feel authentic for you. If you aren’t sure what you want, they can also help when you don’t know where to begin. Your first step is to give them a call.

Contact Dunmire’s On The Lakes at 218-454-0690 or Dunmire’s Bar and Grill at 218-454-0625. For more information or to check out their menus, including weekly specials, visit dunmiresbar.com.

Beauty and emotions that will last a lifetime

Well-known for their reliability, quality workmanship and expertise in creating one-of-a-kind custom bridal sets and engagement rings, E.L. Menk Jewelers has been a trusted source for thousands of wedding couples since 1979.

Store

and his experienced staff have never lost sight of their commitment to offering quality fine jewelry to Brainerd lakes area customers along with personalized service that is second to none. The staff has not only been with the company for many years, together they collectively have more than 100 years of experience in the jewelry and diamond industry. They also know that purchasing a ring for an engagement or a wedding is one of the important expenditures in a couple’s life. And it’s a decision that will be better made with the knowledge and guidance of an expert.

“We enjoy helping brides and grooms find the perfect wedding ring for their special occasion and have options for every budget,” Menk confirmed. “Our wedding bands are made of the best materials and the highest craftsmanship and we offer only stones cut to maximum brilliance. Our wide selection of diamond rings include solitaires, ideal square diamonds, engagement rings, colored diamonds, custom designed bands and many more. For couples looking to match an existing ring, our design team can custom create a single or double wedding band that matches their ring beautifully.”

A locally-owned and operated

business, E.L. Menk Jewelers’ selection includes beautiful bracelets, necklaces and rings that are as classic and unique as their customers are. They also offer couples diversity in jewelry choices and the largest collection of Canadian-mined and cut diamonds in the area. To view and appreciate the true brilliance and sparkle of a diamond, and know that it is the right diamond for the occasion, brides and grooms find they benefit from working one-on-one with someone who is also a part of their community.

If a wedding proposal is in the future, E.L. Menk can take the pressure off grooms-to-be by offering a unique service that helps them with the decision-making process. After working to select the best diamond for the future groom’s budget and vision, the selected diamond is then mounted in a simple solitaire setting. This works to preserve the magic and excitement of the proposal, yet gives the bride-to-be an option of returning the solitaire setting and then selecting a new setting that better fits her style and taste.

“The times have changed, but we haven’t,” Menk noted. “We have always been focused on providing the best service and expertise possible right within the walls of this building. In our jewelry workshop we not only create fine

jewelry, we perform quality repairs and maintenance to keep your items looking like new. All of our production and repair work is done onsite by my expert staff members who specialize in repairs, custom jewelry production and appraisals. Our customers’ satisfaction is always in the forefront of our minds and we continually work to ensure that everyone leaves this store with a smile that sparkles as brightly as the diamonds we sell.”

As E.L. Menk Jewelers celebrates its 43rd year in business, Menk credits his company’s longevity to consistently offering excellence in customer service, professionalism, integrity along with cultivating long-term relationships with the customers who are now considered friends. In an era where online deals tempt buyers with cheap prices on inferior products, he also points out that there is no substitute for a trusted relationship with a hometown jeweler.

“We’ve been here a long time and we will continue to be here for years to come,” Menk concluded. “We are proud to be able to use our knowledge and vast selection of stones and settings to assist brides and grooms-to-be in making a selection that not only reflects their relationship’s beauty and emotions, but also one that will last a lifetime.
