Captains Quarters Welcome to spring everybody and the April issue of Brapp Magazine. It’s great to be back in the swing of things with a full schedule of events to kick off this month. We stayed fairly busy over the off season but it’s nothing like being back at the track full time. We’d like to thank every single one of you who kept reading our print issue and surfing our web sites over the cold winter months. Its loyal fans like you that let us continue to do what we do all year long. Our advertisers appreciate your business and want to make sure you have everything you need for a successful season of riding and racing here in our neck of the woods, so thanks for soliciting them year round. We started out this past month at the Greenbrier Enduro in Southern NJ. What a showing for their 51st running of that event with over 500 participants riding that day. The weather was great and riders attended from up and down the eastern seaboard. We were then off to a Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier and then we had a very cold day at the Pagoda Motorcycle Club opener. Mother Nature predicted a Nor’Easter that weekend but the motocross racers had a different plan in mind. In between we caught up with some of the local talent that is just tearing it up all over the country. Check out their bio’s in our pages. It never ceases to amaze me the talent that comes out of our region. No matter what the discipline, you guys and gals kick butt. Way to go and keep after it, we love promoting your results. As I sit writing this the weather outside is still a bit on the cold side but I just know that it has to change soon. We have one more event to squeeze into our pages this coming weekend so let’s hope and pray for good weather. Other than that it’s the usual stuff. Please watch BrappMag.com for your weekly photos and videos and we’ve also added a results page this year. Our goal is to make our website your go to spot for everything you want and need to know. You can get event schedules, race results, link to just about every photographers website from the area and of course read our entire issue online a week after it prints. As a matter of fact every issue we print goes online and stays there indefinitely so you can resource back for any and all past coverage. You can also link directly to our advertiser’s websites, video and photos from events and so much more. Well, that’s about it for now. Thanks for reading and we’ll see you at an event real soon! B

Additionally, the motocross community has been kind to me. I am an outgoing person, and I tend to make friends easily at the track. B

HOW TO WIN THE BIG ONE – THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE By: Jim Bull

If Your Goal Is To Finish Top 10 at Loretta’s This Year Then You Need To Read This Story!! Now that’s a worthy goal - but I would ask you this. Why isn’t your goal to “Win all your motos at Loretta’s this year”? Some may tell you that is unrealistic, who do you think you are, that there have only been a few people to ever do that, that other racer is much faster than you.

PROVEN FACT:

YOU’RE BRAIN CAN’T TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOMETHING YOU IMAGINE OR SOMETHING THAT REALLY HAPPENS. (PLEASE READ THAT PART AGAIN) I can tell you this. I’ve interviewed a lot of racers over the last 15 years and it seems every time I ask a racer what their goals are they either say “I want to finish top 10 or top 5 at such and such an event or in this particular race”. And guess what happens, that’s exactly what they do, or sometimes worse. Only ONCE has anyone ever told me that “I’m going there to win it”. And guess what ... SHES WINNING! (See K. Benson Racer Review in this issue)

What if just once you said to yourself - I’m winning that thing and deep down inside you really believed you could. Can you imagine what might happen? Now I’ll throw my disclaimer out here. I know that not everyone who races is doing it because they absolutely feel they have to be the winner. One of the most important aspects of doing anything in life is to enjoy the experience, to have fun and be the best you can be, and I absolutely agree. However this article is geared towards the racer who is chasing the dream, to win the National Championship, to go Pro and make it work. You’ll have many naysayers and doubters. They might even be in your own family or on your friends list. They dont mean you any harm, well most don’t. They just don’t fully understand how our brains work.

You can ride all you want, you can work out every day, you can have all the right equipment and you can eat all the right foods, but if you’re brain isn’t dialed in, you aren’t going to win. You have the same opportunities to win the big one as anybody else. You put your boots on just like the next guy, it doesn’t matter if his are newer than yours. It doesn’t matter if you just broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend, it doesn’t matter what anybody thinks or says but you… You can win this thing, if you believe you can. There is no way I can fit this lesson all in this column, but I promise you this, if you go to my website and download and print the entire article. Then read it and follow the instructions in it - you will finish better at the big race. Here’s the best part - it doesn’t cost you a dime, it will be the easiest part of your training that you will ever do and it will absolutely make you a champion, both on and off the bike. Do it now. Put down this paper and log on to: www.brappmag.com/news.html and click on the Loretta Lynn logo. Moms and dads, if you have a young racer you will need to help them with it, but it will be the best investment you can make in your racer. Go ahead - Do It Now!!! You’ve spent the time, you’ve spent the money, now you just have to finish. Take the Big Secret with you and come home with the gold. B BRAPP MAGAZINE April 2016

TRI COUNTY SPORTSMEN HOME OF TEAM HAMMER GREENBRIER ENDURO

MARCH 13, 2016

Greenbrier Opens Strong Over 500 riders came out to kick off the 2016 ECEA/MSR Explorer Gear Enduro season in Mid March. With no surprise, Mike Lafferty decided to ride his favorite trails and came out the victor followed by his nephew Ryder, with Jarrett Mohn rounding out the top three. It was my first trip to this event and only my second Enduro ever and boy did I learn a lot. The sport of Enduro racing is one of the oldest forms of two wheel rivalry, and this Tri County event was the 51st running put on by the club, with around the last 10 years being held in this South Jersey spot.

The Tri County Crew put 130 rows on the course

Mass rider Phil Hebert brought the old IT200 out of retirement Mike Lafferty is your O/A Grand Champion Riders can pre enter for the event or sign up as they arrive. The start or Key Time as it’s called was 8:00 am. Pre-registered riders row positions are determined by a random draw and based on class and some other factors. Then post entry will line up as they are signed up. There are four riders per row and they are released on one minute intervals. This particular event was a closed course 80 mile route meaning there were no public road sections. The object is to complete the different sections of the event at a particular speed in the allotted time period. There are stops for fuel and body and times are reset along the way to offer the rider a rest. Points are then added or deducted depending on how close you arrive at the check stops to your specific times. More details can be found in the article on the next page and you can log on to the ECEA website to get all the specifics. WICOMICO

What do you need to get started ? Naturally you need the motorcycle, it can be an enduro purpose bike or a modified MX or cross country bike. Traditional Enduros require some type of odometer, a clock, route sheet holder and score card holder. In a Traditional Enduro the events will include public roads so you need to be enduro legal, have a motorcycle drivers license, an insured and plated bike. Check with the promoting club or event organizer as some enduros are closed course or have parade permits that remove requirements of street legal bike and rider. Once the bike is ready, you need an AMA Membership, you will need to download from the website the flyer and fill out an event entry form then mail it in or go online. There is also an ECEA Enduro Number Application, the online version is on our website. Other tid bits.‌. the ECEA rulebook can be downloaded from home page, good info in there, all about enduros and our championship series. Many Enduros are now following the National Format that takes away the time keeping aspect and are closed course.

What are Enduros you ask? It is a motorcycle event that puts the rider and bike against the clock. Enduros are called races by some but they are viewed as a large organized ride starting at Key Time of 8 am to a 2 pm ending time, covering 100+ route sheet miles. During this approximate six hour time keeping event, one can expect check points that track your progress, gas stops that give you time to fuel your bike and body and resets in mileage to help keep you on time or give you a break. This may seem complicated but it is just a great day on your motorcycle. You make the day into whatever you want, a great ride with friends, a personal quest or an intense ride for the win.

NJ NJ NJ NJ DE NJ PA PA

In the ECEA you will see a mix of everything, we have a National Enduro or two every year, some events use a check in – check out format that keeps the time keeping a bit easier, many ECEA events are closed course to ease the burden of legal bikes. The clubs get creative in combining formats to meet the changing times, give the riders the best bang for the dollar, a competitive format and most of all a fun day on our dirt bikes. Our Events are part of the ECEA Championship Enduro Series, 16-19 events per year, ride six events and become part of our club structure, all this will earn you series points to be celebrated at our annual awards banquet. Introducing ECEA FastKIDZ Enduro Series! The ECEA is proud to offer a new form of youth oriented off road competition while returning to its roots as an enduro organization. The ECEA will host a five event series, with each taking place the Saturday before the adult enduro.

June 11th July 9th August 6th August 20st September 24th

Per FastKIDZ (Jr) Enduro Series Committee: “This has been a long-time vision of ours. The goal of this series is to introduce youth to another exciting competitive form of off road riding while giving families a full weekend of riding on Saturday and Sunday; furthermore, we will simultaneously cater to new trail riders with abbreviated courses, as well as offering the more experienced riders a challenging experience with approximately 90 minutes of competitive riding within a 2 hour format. In order to accommodate everyone, we will adjust the riding mileage and or times by age and bike class. We will be using the same classes as the FastKIDZ Hare Scrambles Series We have simplified the timekeeping so any child or adult can easily grasp it with no prior enduro knowledge. Simply put, with the “Jr enduro hybrid timekeeping” all the rider needs to do is complete the course in the allotted amount of time, which will be generous and allow for breaks; Furthermore, once the rider leaves the starting line, the rider can enter course sections at any time, with anyone rider they prefer. Austin Daniels goes 1-1 in both 250 and Open B

Julia Lord (10) gets the win over Jayden Mogel in 50cc Open Ahh, racing in March in the great Northeast, you just never know what you’re going to get. Mother Nature and the weather forecasters once again played havoc with the promoters and racers from the region calling for upwards of eight inches of snow on race day. As the old Talking Heads song says should I stay or should I go? Pagoda held out to the day prior when they made the call to continue on in the hopes that Joe the weather guy wouldn’t screw up again. Luck had it that the snow stayed away for the duration of the day but the cold sure didn’t. With overcast skies and temps in the low 30’s, the racers that did come out gave us a great show before heading to the warmth of their trailers to try and warm up. Props to the club members for putting on the show and to all the racers who braved the weather. We had several double class winners on the day with some excellent battles in many classes. You can check out the results here then head over to: www.BrappMag.com to check out images from all the classes. Pagoda’s next event is slated for April 16-17 so head on out and have some fun. Hopefully it will be a little warmer by then. B

Registration, Titling and Insuring Your ATV Who must register and title?

All ATVs in Pennsylvania, except ATVs used solely for business or agricultural purposes, need to be registered and titled with DCNR. ATVs used in Pennsylvania must be registered and titled with DCNR’s Snowmobile/ATV Section. The ATV registration and titling fees are NOT user fees for the privilege of using trails on state-owned land. The fees provide funding to administer the program, maintain trails in DCNR-managed parks and forests, and provide grants to profit and non-profit organizations for developing additional riding opportunities.

Two Types of Registrations Apply: • Registration

For ATVS used anywhere off of your own property or property leased by you, such as designated State Forest trails. $20 fee every two years

• Limited Registration

For ATVs used solely on your own land or land leased by you. Free registration No expiration, unless ownership of vehicle changes.

Plates and Decals

An ATV owner will be issued a registration plate for the vehicle. An expiration sticker to be affixed to the plate will be issued for standard registrations.

Liability Insurance

If you are using your ATV solely on land owned or leased by you, you are not required to get liability insurance. All other riders must carry liability insurance. Proof of that insurance must be carried with you when you ride. There are no minimum requirements or coverage standards established by DCNR or the Snowmobile/ATV Law for the liability insurance.

MAMA Opener at Speed Citi Seaford, DE

By: Brapp Mag Staff

CJ Schock was on cruise control all weekend

March 26-27, 2016

The Mid Atlantic Motocross Association (MAMA) kicked off their 42nd season at Speed Citi in Seaford, DE. This group started primarily as a youth organization many moons ago and to this day still caters to the youth of our sport but offers classes for all ages and skill levels. The series consists of 12 rounds and makes stops in DE, NJ, MD, PA and VA. Classes are divided between Saturday and Sunday offering a full weekend of festivities for the entire family with round #1 kicking off this year on Easter Weekend to a full crowd.

Stine and Gregory battle in Supermini 2

Saturday brought sunny skies and temps in the 60’s for the event with a full gate of School Boy racers lining up for the first gate drop of the year. 32 racers battled thru the high speed first turn and the action was tight all moto with Max Sanford showing the group around the track. Sanford would go on to win 6 out of 8 motos on the weekend. The day moved on with the Senior, Women and Unlimited classes taking to the track. In the age groups Mike Farmer would lead the way and racing was red hot in the unlimited divisions. On Sunday the clouds moved in and brought cooler weather with it along with new classes and intense racing. Sunday brings more 50cc divisions along with the expert, amateur and novice classes along with the new for 2016 125 A, B and C groups. All the 60 and 80cc racers would make their way to the track and the battles were great. The youth racers were knocking off the winter rust and building confidence while preparing for the upcoming season. Skyler Pruitt (21) leads the new 125 C division

CHAPLAINS CORNER Welcome back everyone to the race season! Victory in JESUS ministries would love to invite you to chapel on any given Sunday at Happy Ramblers or Doublin Gap about 30 minutes before riders meetings at the same location as riders meetings.

This is what racing is all about

What do you think about and does it matter? Have you ever considered the idea that your feelings or at least how you respond to them is in your control? JESUS Christ is the son of God and he died and rose again from death and he defeated your greatest enemy; DEATH. In the Bible we find a promise from God that we will live forever with him if we will accept Jesus as our Lord and our savior. Make him your team manager, your trainer, your role model and your boss. Talk to him today and pray an invite Him into your heart. With this decision You can know that He is now alive inside of you by His Spirit. Pray today and invite the Holy Spirit to take full residence in your spirit. God wants to guide and help you from the inside out.

The racing was this close all weekend

So what do you think about? Well, if you have done what I spoke of in the above paragraph then you have a lot of good and a lot of victory to think about. You have much to rejoice in for this life and in heaven. In Philippians 4 we learn that we don’t have to make room for discouragement or doubt, we can chose what to think about. He tells us, hey you don’t need to worry, instead talk to God and let him work out your life’s concerns. He promises that if we make our request and mix it with much thanksgiving that it will bring us the peace of God. Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Brookshire and Naia battle in 60 C

We have a choice daily, are we going to let our fears and insecurities talk to us all day or are we going to talk to ourselves with good words and thoughts? We can do like King David did and encourage ourselves in The Lord taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. God wants what’s best for you; we can discipline our thinking and change our future. Winners have winning thoughts by choice not buy accident; victory starts in your thinking. When I raced I would race the track in my head to perfection and this would help me race it in real life. Focused thinking brings better result in any area of life. “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. But if you look at Christ you’ll be at rest. It all depends on where you’ve got your eyes.” ~ Corrie ten Boom. Hollicost Survivor Jesus poured out grace for all of us,

The traction was great at Speed Citi
