Mother Nature once again brought an interesting twist to the MAMA race schedule in 2017. In the days prior to the event board members pondered the right call to the impending forecast for the upcoming weekend. The decision was made to combine all classes into a Saturday program so everyone could get a chance to ride. In the end it was the right call as the day went smoothly and everyone got their laps in and no one had to deal with the monsoon that came to South Jersey on Sunday. The racing was red hot as the season points series were winding down. Check out some action here along with the class winners for the day and as your reading this class champions have already been announced and crowned at their year-end awards banquet. Yes, we have big changes coming for the new year and I’m guessing the first thing you may have noticed is a change in our cover design and the addition of a new logo. New for 2018 we will be expanding our coverage to feature our offroad riding and outdoor adventure friends as well as our regular race

coverage. Never fear, nothing will be going away, we will only be bringing you more great info, places to ride, events to attend, stuff for sale and all the usual blah, blah, blah. The other big change is the fact that we will be going to six times a year print schedule. I know we’ve been bouncing that around the last year or so, 12 times then no print and now back again. But we believe we’ve figured it out and if not, we’ll change again until we get it right. The goal has always been to bring you the best local info while providing the best bang for everybody’s buck. All I hear the last couple years is that our sport is shrinking so it’s our mission to help stop that from happening. After all, we all love to ride, right? So please enjoy the current issue and keep your eyes out for changes in service, in distribution and in coverage. Beginning with this issue we will print every other month and be online everyday at BrappMag.com. You can also find us on social media with regular updates from us and our great advertisers who also support your sport by the way. I can never ask you enough to support them in any way you can. WHAT’S HAPPENING OUTSIDE OF PENNSYLVANIA: ► In nearby West Virginia, the Hatfield-McCoy ATV Trail (now at 600 miles, with a planned total of 1,200 miles) has become a world-wide attraction. Permit sales this year are expected at 45,000, with more than 80 percent of those permits purchased by non-West Virginia residents. The trail system is now fueling the economy following the decline of the coal industry. (https://goo.gl/qpseZv) ► In New Hampshire, the Jericho Mountain State Park, an ATV Park, was established in 2006. Initially only 14 miles, the Park now has more than 85 miles of trails and has been a win-win for the state and the local community. The state could meet the rising demand for OHRV trails, and the city could attract visitors, bringing new customers to existing businesses and creating a welcoming climate for new businesses. It was one of several initiatives undertaken by the city in order to diversify the economy and make the region less dependent on the pulp and paper industry. (NH Business Review, May 14, 2015) ► According to a July 18, 2017 article in UTV Action magazine, some of the economic impacts of the Off Highway Vehicle Recreation boom include: - California sees more than $10 billion a year in direct and indirect revenues

- Arizonans spend some $3.1 billion a year for a total impact of $4.25 billion; 1.1 million Arizonans identify as OHV recreation enthusiasts and they spend 13.9 OHV recreation days annually, creating 36,951 jobs, $1.08 million in wages, and $187 million in taxes. - A 2013 study shows OHV enthusiasts in Colorado spent $602 million annually, with $133 million of OHV purchases; they created 5,500 jobs, $212 million in wages, $35 million in taxes, and $945 million in total revenues for the state. - A 2012 study by the Outdoor Industry Association attributes $66 billion a year nationwide to OHV recreation, while Canadian OHV recreation generates another $6.9 billion a year. Where we need your support: With nearly 60 percent of the land in Clinton County owned by the state, this the perfect location to initiate test/pilot programs aimed at offering more legally ridable trails and connector roads for ATV enthusiasts. • A few dozen segments of state roads - ranging in length from just a hundred yards to about mile - in Clinton and Potter counties have been identified as key connector segments. We suggest a pilot initiative whereby the state would allow ATV traffic on specific section of road as a test case. • We also suggest a test case on the use of State Forestry roads by ATV riders.

It was an example of two Pennsylvania-based ATV clubs exhibiting their fraternal spirit and love of riding.

The Anthracite Trail Riders, a club dedicated to promoting the AOAA, hosted the Lock Haven area, Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc., on a ride through the park. Twenty-nine machines and approximately 40 members participated in the 45 mile ride that spanned the Western and Eastern Reserves with several stops along the way for sight-seeing, lunch and getting to know other members of each club. ATR and CMATV presidents, Warren Remig and Henry Sorgen IV, respectively, were on hand to ensure members had a great time on the trails. Both organizations are non-profit and heavily involved in promoting the off-roading sport through club rides, sponsoring charity events, volunteer work and supporting legislation that expands the Pennsylvania ATV trail systems, and most recently, successfully lobbying state representatives to pass a bill that separates ATV and snowmobile registrations. The Central Mountain ATV Association has also been at the forefront of the Northcentral Pennsylvania ATV Initiative Project, which has been expanding ATV trails by hundreds of miles in the North Central region of the state, and expected to bring an economic boost to the area through more tourism and related activity. My name is Sean Koeller, and I race dirt bikes, and that’s about as basic as it gets. I’m 26 years old and have been living this life as long as I can remember, sitting in the backseat of a van playing Gameboy as my parents drove across the United States so my dad could chase his passion and race dirt bikes. Fast forward a few decades, and you’ve landed in 2017, our second year competing in our sports most prestigious enduro series, the NEPG. While most of you who stumbled across my blog are probably familiar with dirt bikes, off-road racing, and maybe enduros. All they are is a long dirt bike race (approx. 60 miles) through various terrain. We race in the woods, through streams, fields, mountains, sand, whatever you can think of all while being timed through different length sections and the lowest time wins. Got it? Good. The next thing I should probably tell you is that I do these races with my family, three cousins specifically. My dad, Eric, is our driver, mechanic, cook, DJ, and bank. He still competes locally in the 55+ Expert class after racing his whole life. He’s accomplishing a great deal, including racing our sports “Olympics,” the ISDE, once in 1994 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and a second time in 1996 in Finland. He also started our family business with his brother; Town & Country Cycle Center, a motorcycle dealership that’s been going strong for more than 30 years.

The summer season runs from the Friday before Memorial Day through the last full weekend in September. The winter season runs from the day following the last day of the regular or extended antlerless deer season as established by the Game Commision through the following April 1. There are some trails that remain closed until after the late muzzleloader season. Please check the forest distrcit web pages for current access advisories on when trails open for the winter season. Pike County - Burnt Mills - 7 Miles of summer and winter trail. Access is from a parking area on Route 402 one mile south of Porters Lake. Rgistered Class II ATV’s are permitted on this trail that are less that 58” in width and less than 1,200 pounds. Adams & Cumberland Counties - 36 miles of summer trail. During the winter season the trail system is expanded to 42 miles by using some dirt roads that are gated during the winter. Part of the trail system is shared with snowmobiles when there is sufficient snowfall. The trail is located between Big Flat and Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Access to these are from parking lots located at Big Flat along Shippensburg Road about 1-1/4 miles nort of its intersection with Route 233 and on Piney Mountain along Bendersville Road south of Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Snyder & Union Counties - 15.4 miles of summer and winter trails. Access is at the Jacks Mountain Trailhead located along Route 235 three miles south of Glen Iron. The trail includes the East Kettle Road which has been closed to other types of motor vehicles. Registered Class II ATV’s are permitted on this trail that are less than 58” in width and less than 1,200 pounds. Clinton County - The Whiskey Springs ATV Trail - The Whiskey Springs ATV Trail - 50 miles of summer and winter trails. The Whiskey Springs ATV Trail is located Southeast of Kettle Creek State Park. Trailhead access is from SR 120 in Westport along Kettle Creek for approximately 1.5 miles then North on Two-Mile Road. Lycoming County - 17 miles of summer and winter trail. Trails are located near Haneyville and include the Button Road and a network of wooded trails built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s. Access to the trail is from a parking area located at the CCC Camp along Route 44 one mile south of Haneyville. If you do not see an instructor listed in your area, please call 717-783-7941 and ask for the nearest instructor’s contact information. Children under the age of 8 or over age 16 are not eligible to receive the certificate, but if your rider is between the ages of 8 and 16 they are eligible to take the course and receive the certificate. Proper safety gear and safe machine are required to take the course. By contacting your local instructor, you can receive all the information you need to ensure your child has the proper gear to complete this course. Completing the course and receiving the certificate provides the knowledge and skill to operate the machines in various manners necessary to ride trails with confidence, not to mention that most children think its really cool to get their “license” in the mail!

Registration, Titling and Insuring Your ATV Who must register and title?
All ATVs in Pennsylvania, except ATVs used solely for business or agricultural purposes, need to be registered and titled with DCNR. ATVs used in Pennsylvania must be registered and titled with DCNR’s Snowmobile/ATV Section. The ATV registration and titling fees are NOT user fees for the privilege of using trails on state-owned land. The fees provide funding to administer the program, maintain trails in DCNR-managed parks and forests, and provide grants to profit and non-profit organizations for developing additional riding opportunities.
Two Types of Registrations Apply: • Registration
For ATVS used anywhere off of your own property or property leased by you, such as designated State Forest trails. $20 fee every two years
• Limited Registration
For ATVs used solely on your own land or land leased by you. Free registration No expiration, unless ownership of vehicle changes.
Plates and Decals
An ATV owner will be issued a registration plate for the vehicle. An expiration sticker to be affixed to the plate will be issued for standard registrations.
Liability Insurance
If you are using your ATV solely on land owned or leased by you, you are not required to get liability insurance. All other riders must carry liability insurance. Proof of that insurance must be carried with you when you ride. There are no minimum requirements or coverage standards established by DCNR or the Snowmobile/ATV Law for the liability insurance.

Bras’s for a Cause Sept. 9, 2017 Lost Trails ATV Adventure Park The 7th annual Bras for A Cause supporting the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, took place at the Lost Trails ATV Adventure Park in Dunmore, PA on Saturday September 9, 2017. The PA Breast Cancer Coalition is devoted exclusively to breast cancer awareness and education. They represent, support, and serve breast cancer survivors and their families in PA through educational programming, legislative advocacy and unique outreach initiatives.

Saturday began with anxious riders geared up and ready to go! The main attraction for Saturday was set around finding bright pink bras hidden throughout the trails. If you were lucky enough to find a hidden bra you could have won a helmet camera, a big screen television, riding gear, an over night stay at a local hotel or a year membership to the New Lost Trails Park. Best of all the entire event raised over $3,300.00 for PABCC! The event ended with a bang Saturday night for a guided Lost Trails night ride. The night ride attracted over 200 riders filled with excitement for a three hour adventure. The night ride consisted of varied terrain such as rock crawls, railroad bed, winding trails, hills, mud and the best part of all was when we got to ride through the historic 800 foot tunnel.

and we had a blast. A cold blast, but a blast none the less. The above article failed to mention that temps were in the teens all weekend but it didn’t discourage the crew from the CMATVA both riders and volunteers alike, let alone all of the local folk that braved the cold to help support this event. We would also like to thank Lancaster Honda for providing us with a great ride and the town of Benezette for recognizing that off-road riders can be responsible and a great source of revenue for local economies. Brapp Mag Report – Honda Pioneer 1000 CMATVA Elk Ride - Benezette, PA
In early November we headed north to Elk County to take part in the Central Mountains ATV Clubs Annual Elk Ride and Toy Benefit. We attended a few years back to cover the event, but this was the first time we toured along with the club in search of these majestic animals. Big thanks go out this month to Lancaster Honda in Lancaster, Pa for setting us up in their top of the fleet side by side, the Honda Pioneer 1000 with DCT automatic transmission and electronic power steering (EPS). I’ve been itching to get a ride in one of these animals as Honda is the only manufacturer I know of that offers a direct drive shaft set up rather than the CVT belt that most manufacturers bring to the table. I know that system has been developed well but the thought of never having to replace a belt while out on the trail seemed very appealing to a guy like me who needs to keep a full-time pit crew around just to pull general maintenance. Go ahead and laugh, the secrets out. Yes, the Brapp Captain can make them go, but when they don’t I’m clueless as to how to get them back on the trail. And let’s face it, no matter how well built your machine is, when you’re out pounding the trails, general maintenance needs to be performed. Hence in my book, the less you need to worry about, the happier you should become. Anyhow, back to this machine. Power yes, handling yes, looks yes, and that DCT 6 speed automatic transmission with direct shaft drive, yes. Did I mention power, oh yes, I believe I did? Even though this ride would definitely fall on the easy scale when it comes to challenging your machine we could tell that the big Honda has what it takes to get about any job done. Matter of fact I’d bet Honda offers a Pioneer model to meet just about everyone’s needs. The pain felt upon the departure of loved ones from this life will generally mirror the joy we felt while they remained with us. — Sam Storms Isn’t the above statement so true? In my home town we recently held our Thanksgiving dinner with our Motley Church crew and that evening we went around the table and we all mentioned just one thing that we were thankful for. Of the close to 20 people there over half said family. Yes family. They say that Hope is the number one thing that all humans long for. In my opinion the only thing that can offer us hope next to God is the love of our family. Sadly, just before Thanksgiving I received word that our racing community had lost another family member. Jean Crine, mother of deceased pro motocross racer Kevin Crine and a lady who championed hope over recent years passed after a long battle with cancer. I’m sure that her husband John and the rest of the Crine Family have searched for hope over these last months. Hope for her life but also hope that the pain would be relieved, hope that she would be in comfort and the realization of the hope that she would soon be with her beloved son Kevin who departed his family way too early in life to a tragic accident. Mrs. Crine loved the motocross community that she’s left behind and since her son’s passing has helped organize an annual memorial race in his memory while giving back to the families and racers in our local community. Jean we thank you for your offerings, your sacrifices and all that you have given to our sport. Your presence will be missed by many. Let’s see what the Bible has to say about it: Romans 14:7-9 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
