Now all you need to do is download the FREE BrappMag App and you’ll have us at your fingertips 24 hours a day - 7 days a week. Many of you are already reading us that way and it will allow us to lift the limitations of content space due to high print costs while making it more affordable for our advertisers and easier for you to read. You’ll be able to find issue specific content that will be nowhere else on the web, link directly to photos and videos and shop with all of our advertisers with just a few clicks. I know some of you may be thinking - what if I’m on the cover or my child is in your pages. Don’t be discouraged if you like the print version and want copies you will be able to order one copy or 100. You’ll also be able to download and print from home too if you prefer that method. Tucker Receives Citation from PA State House of Representatives History was made last fall when the PA House of Representatives awarded its first ever Citation to a motocross racer. The House generally recognizes the achievements of its citizens who participate in all types of sports, causes and activities but never have they taken a look at the sport that we participate in and love so much. State Representative David Maloney who represents the 130th Legislative District in Pennsylvania caught wind of a young motocross racer Mason Tucker who has been making a name for himself and he wanted to learn more. Representative Maloney among other roles serves on several house committees including Children and Youth, Game and Fisheries and more recently has become the chair person for the PA House Motorsports Caucus. In the time I spent with Mr. Maloney you could feel his passion not only for motorsports but more importantly for our youth and making a difference in their lives. Representative Maloney has served on this committee for five years now but has just recently taken over the chair position. This committee exists to help become aware of and improve opportunities for the citizens of PA to be able to participate in motorsports activities around the state. Enter young Mason Tucker, a local and national level competitor who races 65cc and 85cc machines, and who has been having some great successes in his early racing career. Mason is a Factory Cobra Elite Team rider and in 2016 alone became Canadian National Champion, placed third at the Loretta Lynn Amateur Nationals and was a NE Region Champ. Mason is also a great student in school and he works hard at everything he does.

DEALER INFO Call for Pricing!

I could go on and on about his accomplishments but obviously they were many for the state to want to recognize this young man for his achievements. For 2017 and beyond he is hoping to become a member of Team Suzuki and will continue to pursue racing at both the local and national levels. Masons next big event will be the Daytona Amateur Supercross where he’s managed three top five finishes in the past. Could this be his year to find the top rung of the podium there? Let’s hope so. If you want to learn more about Mason Tucker you can stay tuned to our pages or just google him on the web, I’m sure his results will speak for themselves. I’d like to thank Representative Maloney for his interest in our sport and for honoring Mason. If you like please reach out to him online and thank him for all he does. B

HANGOVER HARE SCRAMBLE 2017 (#HHS2017) Wicomico Motorsports Park Charlotte Hall, MD - January 15, 2017

Our second year of the HHS is in the books! Over 500 stakes, 20,000 feet of ribbon and what seemed like endless packs of red arrows lined this years course… Once again we had multiple volunteers - true blue enthusiasts of the sport that were eager to lend a hand and I am humbled by the time and efforts they put into being there for the racers throughout the day! It amazes me how the off-road community is like an extended family and we are always there for each other which is what makes it all possible. We are not a club – we are just a couple that loves to ride and race so we truly appreciate the many people that come together for us on race day. The history of the Hangover Hare Scramble race is peppered with its bad weather… it is held in the Mid-Atlantic Region in January which is a mixed bag – you truly never know what you will get. That said – we have wanted to keep it a “Rain or Shine” event… “Rain or Shine” however extreme weather in the form of 25 mph wind gusts and single digit wind chills coupled by snow and ice on the ground as well as horrid travel conditions seemed like a good reason to postpone. The overall consensus from the racers was that it was a great decision – especially since the following weekend would be wide open sunshine and 40 degree temps! During the week leading up to our new date we had high winds and sunshine which was doing a great job of drying things out but unfortunately the rain came and did its work on the course the day before the event.

Noah Foster and Jacob Fitzgerald who received some ice cream sundae certificates with their awards! In the Youth Race we had Riley Knapp getting the holeshot in our Trail Bike class which scored him some Fly Bucks…way to go Riley! We had a few first timers out there which is always cool to know – what a race to do for your first time... these kids learned a lot I’m sure! It was also awesome to see quite a few youth girls out there… With Kayli Baldridge winning the Girls class and Kylie Le-Jenkins winning in the Super-Mini Class! Our Top Amateur was Ride On Moto’s, Luke Ross who kept it close for the Overall – at times during most of the race he was leading yet Pro Racer, Jedediah Haines kept pushing and took the Overall spot by the end of the race.

Billy tried to open up many option lines out on the course and kept it interesting for some of the more advanced riders with the infamous Creek Jump as well as more advanced “hot-lines” yet always having the easier options keeping the novice rider in mind as well.

The Open A class was exciting – starting off with Kenny Hawkins grabbing the holeshot – but Luke Ross took over the lead and never looked back – snagging the lions share of the Ride On Moto Ca$h and taking that class win followed by Jimmy Franks and Dean Bush Jr!

A Few Race Highlights: I’m always amazed by the Micro Class – these moto-kids on their tiny bikes with their tiny tires out there in the thick of it – usually at the coldest part of the day with the first tracks on the course… They are certainly tough and don’t get in their way because they are out there doing big things! Congrats go to Travis Latham who took home the win and a certificate from Berts Restaurant for a yummy pizza…he was followed by

In the Lites A class it was Dylan Dela Cruz walking away with the win as well as most of that Ride On Moto Ca$h followed by Nick Hurley and Henry Symanski rounding out the top three.

The rains came the day before the race.

For the Pros that had five or more in their class - Billy paid them 5% of the afternoon

Former National Champion Jed Haines would grab the win.

28 youth racers hit the course at Wicomico.

That would have been the same for the Pro Women however the only Pro Woman that showed up was tough as nails Tiffany Chilzer – when Billy asked Tiffany how her race went – she was all smiles never even mentioning the epic crash she had at the Creek Jump…as I said… tough as nails, after all that Tiffany finished 86th overall out of 250 racers! After a few suggestions we have added a class to the afternoon race for some of our girthier fellas… We call it the Clydesdale Class for those weighing 230lbs before gear and over 30 years old! We did the calculations and it seems we had at least 5060lbs of dirt loving men on that start row… In the end it was AW DeMott followed by Seth Eberhardt and Jake Dennis “rounding out” the top three and taking home custom medallions handmade with actual Clydesdale horseshoes and dirt bike chains – not to mention some tasty treats for the drive home! Our Women’s Amateur class had six eager ladies lined up… I know because I was one of them. I was so excited to have my good friends, Heidi Hawkins, Amanda Knapp and Samantha Kilgore on the line with me! This would be our first race all together so that was pretty special in itself – lining up with us was the lovely Cloey DeMott and Kylie Le-Jenkins who had earned a win in the Super-Mini class in the 10 o’clock race! I had been hoping for the holeshot… figuring this could be my one chance for glory – yet even with my quick start button reflexes I was denied because Kylie passed me like I was standing still! After the first turn I was quickly passed by Amanda followed by Samantha and then Heidi and I’m certain Cloey… or in any other possible order since I hit the ground shortly after. Congrats to all – It was Kylie Le-Jenkins with the win followed by Samantha Kilgore in second and Amanda Knapp in third. Our Honorable Mention goes to Bob Martin for making the long trip down from Tunnelton, West Virginia to pull off the win on a bike he’d never ridden before the weekends events in the Super Senior 50+ class! *Complete results can be found at https://speedhive.mylaps. com/Events/1357723 - Special Thanks to Full Gas Timing and Scoring for working with us this year… One of our highest priorities was to have a reputable scoring company handle registration and scoring and we knew Jason Hooper would deliver. Thanks Again to all of you that made the journey to the Hangover Hare Scramble...we truly hope you enjoyed the course. Billy Schlag and I took this special race on last year because it wasn’t on any of the club schedules and I have always had a blast racing it. He said “We’ll Do It”… and well we did! And we’d like to keep putting it on as long as it remains fun because that is what its all about for us. Billy coaches riders as well as builds tracks and courses with his company Trail Pros and is a successful off-road racer so this seemed like a good fit for us. We hope to see you on Janu-

Nancy Sabater/Billy Schlag hangoverharescramble@gmail.com Facebook.com/hangoverharescramble 2017 Hangover Hare Scramble NORTH/ SOUTH Shootout The first year for the North/South Shootout came down to the wire with a tie breaker! How it works: At sign up you were asked “Which side do you choose… The North or South?” Then you were asked to “Choose Your Representative”. The question, “Which Side…” we leave up to your interpretation – you decide what it means to you. Then once you make that determination you need to decide who you want to represent your side. The Representative is then chosen by how many votes they received. Once the Rep is determined they will receive a Medallion commemorating the win and their name will go on our Perpetual Hangover Hare Scramble Race Trophy

This custom built vintage Honda beat the hangover.

Points were taken from the top 5 finishers from each class and we had a tie 85/85 but the tiebreaker went to the North because they had 4 more wins. Votes were tabulated and the 2017 North/South Shootout winner is the North and Eric Groves was voted as the North Representative! B

2016 ECEA Championship Award Banquet Valley Forge Casino - January 14, 2017

Mason Tsakanikas leads the 4-8 50cc Air Cooled group to victory

In 2016 the association had a great season seeing over 4000 enduro entries and 10,000 hare scramble entries. In 2017 they have 35 events in their schedule covering everything from Jr enduros and hare scrambles to dual sport, enduro and harescrambles racing, they also offer a fun day event/trail ride at the end of the year. Some special awards saw the STER club getting both the enduro and hare scrambles of the year award. Jamie Theurkauf got the Paul Bromfield award, Mike Bradway was recognized for his efforts to secure riding areas in New Jersey and longtime ECEA supporter, points keeper, webmaster and a do it all kind of guy, Mike Soudas was awarded for his service to the association. Two young men were awarded Skip Stoner scholarships and the list goes on and on. Bob Stewart made the Hall of Fame and I hope I’m not missing anybody. I guess the point I’m trying to make is, wow what a group. If you’re looking for a place to compete, go for a ride or just hang out and have some fun on a regular basis. I recommend you check out the ECEA. Hit up their website for details and a complete list of champions at: www.ecea.org and to link to all images from the day. B

Mid January we found ourselves back at the Valley Forge Casino near King of Prussia, PA to celebrate with some of the fastest Hare Scramble and Enduro racers on the planet.

Austin Tsakanikas is your Pee Wee Champion in 2016

The East Coast Enduro Association has been producing off-road champions for decades now both on the local and national level and on this day gathered to celebrate their 2016 champions. The day started off with their afternoon vendor show featuring local businesses displaying their wares along with informational seminars on everything from suspension setup to how to keep time in an Enduro. Patrons could check out the latest in bikes and accessories while partaking in their favorite bench racing activities. Later in the afternoon we moved into the ECEA Fast Kidz Awards beginning with their Inaugural Jr. Enduro Series then moving on to crown the Fast Kidz Harescramble champions. Many past and present national champions cut their teeth racing in this youth series and my bet is that we’ll see more in years to come. That led us into the main event for the evening starting off with a social hour for the hundreds of attendees prior to a delicious buffet style meal. After that we moved right into the opening ceremonies led by ECEA President Jamie Theurkauf, where special awards were given prior to celebrating their 2016 champions for both Enduro and Hare Scrambles competition. In his opening statements, Jamie spoke about the origins of the association dating back to 1972 and the numerous successes that have come from it. How the ECEA is a family first organization and how we can see the great effects of that thru their Fast Kidz programs.

This was it, the big show, the last gateway in the NE anyway Loretta Lynn Amateur National Championships. I know m have already qualified in other regions and the South East printing but after this particular race.

Over 900 riders made their way to the Doublin Gap MX burg, PA to take a shot for their entry ticket. I saw one cla the whole way from Utah to make the cut. It was a typical preparation for Tennessee, hot and dusty and great compet promoter for keeping everything running smoothly and f track for this event.

Congrats to all who made it in, no matter where you call ho job to all those who didn’t just for making the attempt. Many made the cut here at this event with a few winning their cl pictured below. Take a look at how our champions did the mxsports.com to see the complete results.

District 6 Harescrambles A New Season!

Photos By: Shannon Bloom, Allison McNamee, Jessica Skelton

Not too many years ago, if you asked racers/riders in New Jersey or Pennsylvania what series they were involved in, the answer was mostly all the same. District 6, PA State Harescramble Series. Many of my friends would race the series and talk about the many places and venues they were traveling to. They would mention how many racers for both dirt bikes and quads would be there. My very first events were with District 6. They were always impressive! In more recent years it seemed as if District 6 was struggling. However, there was someone who was fighting somewhere in the background, keeping the series alive. Credit for that has to go to Duane Fisher. Duane is the owner of Evansville MX Facility in Berwick PA. He has been working alone for a long time keeping the D6 Harescrambles alive! He has hosted most of the races, but it was at a time when we were lacking the venues and Riding Clubs on board to make the series have the diverse tracks it once did. So Duane just did it himself! It is because of him the series is alive. Thanks Duane! One D6 race led to us showing up regularly at races. You start to recognize people and you get to know each other and their kids. One guy I start connecting with is no other than Tom Wiley and his family. Great people, great riders, great racers. Duane and Tom are working together to resurrect the series, the venues and District 6 racing. Tom has passion, a wealth of knowledge and has the direction we are going. This guy is no joke! After many chats, sweeps and shared visions, I get that phone call. “Jim, I’m appointing you to District 6 as a Harescramble Rep! We love being at the races, seeing these little guys and big guys get out there. Their smiles, their passion and meeting their families. I will offer whatever I can to help the racers/riders and the District gain strength and grow. Meet Dan Morton. Here is guy who is also wicked with a lens, running all over race courses, taking pictures of everyone elses kids and adults. Kelly Wiley and Dan post these incredible pictures of our racers for everyone to enjoy. Dan is also wicked sharp, quick, and has fire and passion for our sport! Dan, also your District 6 Harescramble Rep. Enter Bill Zaharis, Bill is always running with the little guys! He keeps them smiling and motivated in their race! Bill Zaharis, Disrict 6 Harescramble Youth Coordinator. What does this mean for you? I will let Dan Morton explain. “Ladies, gentlemen, racers and race fans, I am very excited to announce changes to the upcoming District 6 Hare Scramble Program. We heard you. We have made changes. We are working harder than ever before, with a fresh, enthusiastic team, to make District 6 Hare Scrambles the best series it can possibly be. New venues, bigger schedule, improved timing and scoring, and an enthusiastic, well-involved trouble shooting team are on tap for this year, as well as many other changes. You don’t want to miss this series! Jim Caramanna - AMA District 6 Hare Scramble Rep. jcaramanna@optonline.net Dan Morton - AMA District 6 Hare Scramble Rep. dan@djminsurance.net Bill Zaharis - AMA District 6 Youth Hare Scramble Rep. billzaharis@gmail.com The new schedule is finalized. We look forward to seeing you all at the first race! Jim, Bill, and myself are looking forward to being at every event we can attend, and making sure everyone has a good experience in District 6! Come out and try the NEW D6 and shoot for your crown as the top hare scramble rider in Pennsylvania!” We have lots in store for all the racers and their families! Our foremost priority is to make it a safe, organized, and fun series that our youngest racers and our seasoned veterans can enjoy and continue to grow with. We will be available to the racers and their families to listen, learn and evolve! We want to keep this sport and the racing alive. If you are a parent to a new racer, come out and meet us and let us provide your child a great experience! We have several sponsors, man power and a vision to grow this series. We want to make this season a season you won’t want to miss! Connect with us on Facebook at: D6 Harecramble Racers and our website at: www.d6mx.org B

South Mountain Cycle Shop ANNOUNCES NEW OWNERSHIP

Exciting news breaking out of Dillsburg, Pa - long time shop manager Jared Stough becomes new owner at South Mountain Cycle Shop. I’ve worked with this shop for many years on a business to business relationship and former owner Eric Stambaugh did a great job providing the platform for his long time general manager Jared Stough to nourish and grow this small tucked away shop right off Route 15 in Dillsburg, Pa. Matter of fact for the last several years, many people thought that Jared was already the owner of this flourishing business. No doubt to the fact because Jared has been the face you see coming in the door and he’s been the driving force not only vending at many local races but also competing. I’ve run into Jared racing ECEA Enduros on a modern bike and also chasing the Vintage Hare Scrambles scene on his old PE Suzuki. In talking with him recently he also shared that he competes in several trials events each year. My bet would be that the huge success that he is having at South Mountain is based purely on his love and knowledge of the sport. I’ve worked in this industry for many years and I’ve found that the guy who’s in the shop six days a week and then out at the events on the weekend, usually is a guy worth dealing with. Props to former owner Eric for keeping this business going and for giving Jared the resources to help grow it over the years. South Mountain actually started out as a small repair business in Northern York County and over the last several years has grown to include specialty brands such as Beta, Sherco and AJP. Not only do they offer new rides for off road and trials but also keep a solid used bike inventory on hand. In addition you can find a huge tire selection on hand from brands like Dunlop, Michelin and Golden Tyre plus all the daily parts and accessory needs you may have. South Mountain offers a full service facility including maintenance of all brand bikes, ATV’s and side by sides and they do offer PA State Inspection and PA title and tag work. So if you’re looking for a great place to do business with an industry veteran offering a fulltime and knowledgeable staff then South Mountain Cycle Shop just might be the place. You can find them on Facebook and Instagram and they are online at: www.southmountaincycleshop.com Also keep an eye out for them at many events each year and stay tuned to their social media to learn about upcoming demo rides and events that they offer. Press Release Henry Sorgen (570) 660-0017 Yamaha Awards GRANT of $5000 to Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc. Donation Supports Northcentral PA ATV Initiative Project as a part of ongoing effort to encourage safe, responsible riding and sustainable, open riding areas in Clinton County. Clinton County, Pennsylvania—December 20, 2016—Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc. is pleased to announce it has received a Yamaha Outdoor Access GRANT of $5,000 to purchase equipment and tools to install signage for the portions of the trail we already have access to. Yamaha supplied a generator with a value of $2229.00 in which Peter’s Marine helped us process the transfer. We also purchased a Bosch BH2770VCD Electric impact post pounder totaling $1,564.00 and Fastenal Power tools for installing signage in the amount of $1213.00. Fastenal also graciously donated $300.00 towards cordless tooling we needed. The GRANT was awarded as part of Yamaha’s Outdoor Access Initiative promoting safe, responsible riding and open, sustainable riding areas. The Northcentral Pennsylvania ATV Initiative project is intended to stimulate tourism and economic growth in Clinton and surrounding counties. The proposed trail is designed using municipality roads, pre-existing trails that run parallel to forestry roads used for snowmobile trails, power lines and pipelines, and some low use forestry roads. One of the most wellknown ATV trails in West Virginia showed that the Hatfield-McCoy Trails have become a $2 billion tourist trade in an area that is in a struggling coal region, we want, and can grow that kind of business in our region and can offer a great deal more to those who will come to enjoy riding in the Pennsylvania Wilds. “Forty-four percent of the trail has been completed in the first 18 months, the miles have increased because more township roads have opened up to ATVs.” Reports Henry Sorgen, Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc. President. Since the start of the program the available trail miles has increased from 800 miles to 1100 miles. This project has two main objectives since the initial proposal; economic growth and safe legal riding and the Central Mountain ATV Association is committed to carrying these objectives throughout the entire process as we are currently working on installing the signage necessary to keep awareness of ATV riders in approved areas safe. Thankfully we are able to proceed with this installation now that we received the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative GRANT. For more information about Yamaha’s Outdoor Initiative, go to: www.yamahaoutdooraccess.com Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that strives to promote the development and enhancement of ATV Riding Trails and tourism in Pennsylvania Wilds by benefitting all ATV riders and the communities in which they ride. The members vow to abide by federal, state & local laws and ordinances, provide sources of ATV training and education for riders as well as the general public to include the protection of our natural resources through responsible ATV riding. We strive to promote a fraternal spirit among all ATV riders and other outdoor enthusiasts by defending ATVers against discriminatory legislation, regulations and unfair taxation by working with legislators and provide a medium for the exchange of information and ideas among ATV enthusiasts. Lastly we give back to our community by making donations to supports local area charities. B

2016 John Deere Gator XUV590i Power Steering MSRP: $11,359

By: Greg Thomas

See the full report and a video at: www.muddymicpodcast.com

PRODUCT REVIEW I have to admit I am a bit of a John Deere fanboy. I have cut my grass with a green machine for years, and when I had the chance to test drive the John Deere Gator XUV590i I was really excited. The XUV590i is a cross-over utility offering with power steering that is designed for work and for play. The Gator comes in a few color combinations including the traditional John Deere yellow/green, Realtree Hardwood HD camo and olive/ black. My Gator was the olive/black base version, and it came with four wheel drive, power steering, electronic fuel injection, independent front and rear suspention, a 586cc twin cylinder engine all wrapped up in a mid size chassis.

STYLE The John Deere Gator XUV590i has some nice curb appeal. The front grill and headlight configuration have an aggressive automotive feel. The bed and truck style tailgate were very sturdy and easy to use and gave the machine a party in the front and business in the back look. The Gator’s stance has a tough look and black steel rims and tire combination add to that concept. The body panel styling and the glossy paint job gives the machine a high end finish and is

very scratch resistant when trail “junk” rubs against it. The door nets leave a bit to be desired, but I understand they are needed. As a bigger guy I do appreciate the roomy driver compartment. There is plenty of leg room to get in and out. The center mounted digital display was easy to read and understand and the manual controls were easy to operate. In traditional John Deere fashion, the overall fit and finish on the John Deere Gator XUV590i was outstanding!

HOW DOES IT WORK? At first blush you would think the Gator is a work horse…and you would be absolutely correct. The cargo box hold 400 pounds and is almost four feet wide and almost a foot deep. It is made of a high density polymer so there are no concerns about rust or excessive noise from tools or freight rattling around in the bed. The bed also manually dumps and I was impressed how easy the bed dumps with one hand. When you add in the truck style tailgate the Gator bed became very versatile and can adjust to almost any job. Another great benefit John Deere offers is an extremely vast array of accessories that can help modify the Gator for any work scenario. In work

situations that would call for frequent stops I was impressed with how easily it was to exit and enter the vehicle. The driver compartment has plenty of leg room in the door well. Occasionally, the door nets got in the way when entering the Gator. Towing capacity with the 2 inch hitch receiver is 1,100 pounds. One odd thing with the Gator XUV590i model is the lack of a parking gear. The gear lever starts on top at High then to Low-Neutral-Reverse. That basically means that when you turn the machine off you leave it in gear then engage the foot actuated mechanical parking brake. The parking brake is located to the left of the brake pedal. The parking brake is a little awkward to engage, but is easy to get used to. More importantly, the lack of a parking gear becomes problematic on inclines. Without engaging the parking brake the Gator easily rolls downhill.

HOW DOES IT PLAY? I was very curious to see how the Gator rode on the trail. The Gator has 32 hp, eight inches of suspention travel and 10.5 inches of ground clearance. The shock are not premium and are only preload adjustable. Those stats aren’t necessarily awe-inspiring especially when you compare it to some of the ground shaking, turbo powered monsters that are in showrooms across the country. In reality no one is buying the Gator to take to the dunes, and it is not really a fair comparison to make. Like I stated earlier, the Gator is a cross-over and should be compared to other mid-bore cross-over machines. I decided to put this to the test at the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA). The AOAA has a wide variety of trails and is a great place to put the Gator to the test. I took the Gator through almost every type of terrain I could find including; mud, open coal roads and tight trails. The only situation I avoided were double black diamond trails for a couple reasons. 1) It doesn’t come equipped with a winch and

2) I don’t own it so if things got a little gnarly I didn’t want to have to explain what happened to John Deere. Throughout my test ride, I found the Gator impressively capable. It was able to easily churn through some frame deep mud. The tire and wheel package cleaned out mud with ease. The Gator really shined when I got it in some tight twisty trails. Those tight areas are when the compact size become a huge asset. The 32 hp engine had more than enough power to get me wherever I wanted to go and handled some very steep/rocky inclines with surprising ease. I was also impressed with the smooth power steering. When you add all this up the Gator is a blast on the trails. It was comfortable, smooth to operate and able to go go almost anywhere I wanted to go.

PROS: •Easy to gain access to engine with the dump bed •Dump bed/tailgate is solid and easy to use •Power steering gives the appropriate amount of feedback and excels in slow speed situations •Very comfortable to ride •Very easy to get in and out

CONS: •Lack of a parking gear •No engine brake •Electronic display doesn’t show what gear the machine is in •Door nets do not slide well when they got muddy/icy

FINAL THOUGHTS The John Deere brand bring with it a legendary reputation for quality and has an expansive dealer network. That in itself should be an excellent reason to consider John Deere when making a UTV purchase. If you are in the market for a mid-size side by side that can haul hay bales on Wednesday and your beer cooler on Saturday, the Gator XUV590i is an excellent choice. B BRAPP MAGAZINE February 2017

Sonic Offroad - Used Side by Side Dealer 4 x 4’s - Sales, Parts, and Service Easton, Pa www.sonicoffroadllc.com

Find your next machine at Sonic Offroad.

At some point the brothers went on their separate business journeys with Andrew founding Sonic Solar Energy with Matt sticking to his roots and building up Sonic Offroad LLC which has become the premier off road dealer we visited today. Sonic sells around 15 used side by sides every month and if they don’t have the machine you are looking for they will go out and find it. Sonic also stocks a large selection of parts that you won’t find elsewhere for both 4 x 4 ATV’s and side by sides. They also are one of the only dealers around that can do frame work and total rebuilds of side by sides without the need to replace entire frames and cages. They specialize in what Matt calls “the internal core” of the machine: motor, tranny, frame and suspension. Sonic also offers dealer services to those who may need to sub contract this type of work. Sonic is found easily in Easton, Pa just 50 miles from both Philadelphia and New York City and they also ship worldwide, both parts and machines.

The side by side craze has been sweeping the country and the world over the last couple of years as many off road riders from both the past and present look for ways to go out on the weekend and have a fun, but safe riding experience. Not only motorcyclists from days gone by, but ATV riders, and even off road truck and jeep enthusiasts are finding their ways to this incredibly awesome way to get out and get the lead out so to speak. Not only are they a great form of off road enjoyment, they also offer basic transportation at off road and entertainment events and many are used as work vehicles on farms, ranches and construction sites. Enter Sonic Offroad, a used equipment powersports dealer located in Easton, Pa that specializes these days in finding late model side by sides for their customers at a fraction of the cost of new. In talking with owner Matt Ciasulli recently, he saves his customers between 20-25% off the cost of a new machine and prides himself in offering the best selection and price available in the entire country. Who is Sonic you ask? Matt and his brother Andrew first got hooked on riding off road when they were just young boys. One day their dad brought home an old beat up 50cc dirt bike and with a few tools and a little bit of ingenuity and hard work they were off on the trail so to speak. They were hooked immediately and through the years they kept tearing things apart and putting them back together. The two brothers were actually ahead of their time when back in the mid 2000’s they created what was in reality one of the first side by sides with their release of a dune buggy race car and a bolt on independent rear suspension kits for ATV’s that was featured in major magazines that put the Sonic Offroad name on the map.

Sonic Offroad is a full service facility.

You can check them out online or give them a call at: (610) 730-6396. They are a full motor vehicle and powersport Pennsylvania Licensed Dealer. So give them a call to see what they have in stock today and please tell them that BrappMag sent you. B

Key Areas of Focus for your Offseason Training By Coach Nick Lavella, Owner of Physical Industry Training, NASM CPT, FNS, Suspension Trainer, US Army Vet, and Avid Motocross Racer/ Enthusiast

Periodization What it is. Periodization is a term used in the physical training industry that means you’re following a “planned approach to fitness training.” The reason this is so important is because in order to make true progress and see results in physiological numbers and performance data, certain training variables need to be adjusted after a specific time period. Like I mentioned back in September’s issue, motocross, enduro, and free riding all requires a great deal of skill and a good fitness level to ride and race with the greatest quality and safety. Once we exhaust a certain system, then another supporting working group needs to work harder, resulting in early race fatigue, burnout, or even injury. A planned approach to fitness training will help you target a variety of different areas such as improving your stability, balance, strength, endurance, lean muscle mass, power, maximum strength, cardiovascular fitness, and mental performance, all which are required to make up a well rounded rider/racer. Having this planned approach infront of you and ready to be executed will also help you target specific dates on when certain goals should be accomplished and when to reassess.

Apply it. Periodization can be applied to your regular training routine by dividing your training up into specific phases. I personally had a bad habit, years ago when I’d think; “what I was going to do that day at the gym?” I had 2 routine’s I did, one with weights and the other on an elliptical or treadmill. That being said, I was to strong in some areas and weaker in others. Every time I lined up to the gate, I was confident that my race would be strong, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Arm pump like no other would set in on lap 2! I couldn’t get the pieces together which is one reason I wanted to become a trainer in the first place. I had to learn the scientifically proven methods and know how to apply them appropriately. Now things are much different, along with the racers I work with, we have a plan and we stick to it. Here are some specific training variables that need to be adjusted to make true progress: 1.Training Intensity, 2. Training Duration, 3. Training Frequency, 4. Training Volume , 5. Repetitions, 6. Repetition Tempo, 7. Sets to be completed, 8. Rest Intervals, 9. Exercise Selection, 10. Caloric Intake. For everyone who trains with us either here at our facility in St. Marys PA, or those working with us via online/email on a specific program, each phase of training is split up with the purpose of building them up to become healthier and have stronger performances. 2017 Potomac Vintage Riders Vintage Motorcycle Show York Fairgrounds - January 22, 2017

Each year the Potomac Vintage Riders host their annual bike show and swap meet at the York, Pa Expo Center. Each year I attend the show seems to grow larger and offer more wares. I was happily surprised as I arrived Sunday morning about an hour after the show opened. They always get a good crowd for this event but let me tell you, the place was packed. In all my years coming here I’ve never seen the parking lot this full and there were bikes and parts for sale everywhere. As I entered the building my grin got even bigger as every square inch of the expo hall was filled. There were vendors and people everywhere and lots of smiling faces. I don’t care how old you are but if you grew up riding motorcycles I’m sure you’ll find lots of things at this show to smile about. The bike show was phenomenal as well. I couldn’t believe it but most of the machines in the show were new for this year and I was blown away by last year’s show. Not that one was better than the other but for that many restored vintage machines to be floating around life is good.

Champions crowned at this year’s banquet

I’ve heard this is the best swap meet around

Also make sure you check out their local race series. If you want to have a ton of fun for a minimal investment and a laid back casual race weekend then you need to check this series out. 2016 was another successful season for cross country racing in the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association’s Mid Atlantic region. Overall racer attendance has increased over 2015 which also saw an increase over the previous year. The awards presentation and banquet was held at Wyndham Garden Inn in York PA. Our 2016 series was sponsored by a number of local businesses and organizations. In no particular order, we like to thank Paradise Cycle, Potomac Vintage Riders, Works Enduro Rider, Northwest Maico CZ, Brunnett Custom Fabrications, Michaux Off Road Enthusiasts, Vee Rubber and Stainless Cycle. The new season starts in April and you can find the 2017 race schedule in this issue. Best 6 finishes to qualify for year-end awards. WINNING THE RACE It’s time to go racing so I’ll ask you all, are you ready to go? For the local racers here in the North East and Mid-Atlantic region it’s time for the new racing season to begin. I know being a race junkie myself that you never really turn it off but the off season has just about run its course and it’s time to get ready for a new year at the track. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it your equipment? Maybe you’re trying to determine what races you’re going to attend or do you think about your physical condition after a long, cold winter playing video games and eating junk food? Maybe it’s all of the above or something completely different. How about your mental conditioning? Do any of you prepare that way? I guess it may depend on what you’re looking to gain out of the sport. I wanted to share some thoughts from the Bible with you no matter what your expectations are for your time at the track. I know some go to win, hence the title of this article and then again I know some are just there to have a good time with family and friends. Neither is right or wrong because we all want something a little different out of life.

I chose the following scriptures because they apply to both our racing activities and everything we do in life. Whether you believe in God Almighty or not - the teachings that you find in the bible will help you become a better racer no matter what your goals are.

1 Corinthians: 9: 24-25 Verse 24 says - Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!

your official

I believe this to mean that no matter what you are doing in life, do your absolute best at it. That could mean coming in 15th place or getting the checkered flag. But don’t you always feel better when you give your best effort at something no matter what the result is?

Verse 25 follows that up with - All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. Here I believe that God is asking you to think about the effort that we put at things that may be important now, but when it comes to the big picture, it really doesn’t mean a lot. Let’s do our best in all that we do to win eternal life with Him in heaven. I’d urge you to put your trust in God and do your absolute best at all you do. Then I believe you’re results at the track and in life will speak for themselves. To learn more, check us out on Facebook at: Jim Bull Talks or go to: www.jimbulltalks.blogspot.com B

AREAS NEWEST BETA DEALER!

Recent business model: I started 454FACTORY in 2009 and taught kids here and there for a couple years. As I got more serious with my business, I started offering long-term training programs and camps. It became my obsession to research the best techniques and methods that help riders go faster and stay safer! Before you know it, training became my full time job. Future business model: When I started 454FACTORY, my long-term goal for the company was to eventually acquire a permanent training facility. I did everything on the road for 8 years, and I knew that I had to have a permanent location to take the training to the next level. Mission Statement or goal: When I was coming up, I didn’t have many resources. I had no real MX coaching, no physical training or nutrition guidance, and no mental guidance. What I acquired by the time I got to the pro level was what I had figured out on my own. My mission once I started 454FACTORY was to research what worked BEST, and offer the best resources I could to riders who were hungry to learn; including top level riders who showed the humility required to take it to another level. Tell us about your struggles and how long you’ve been working on this project: I have been fighting for property and special use permits for 2 years to this date. November 2014, I had applied for a special use permit at a piece of land close to Kings Dominion Amusement Park. It was a long, drawn out, expensive political battle with county donors and residents that left me with a denial 8 months later. After I lost my fight, I had attempted 2 other locations in which I had lost as well. I was mentally and financially exhausted and decided to step back for a little while. Recently, I had actually been in the process of purchasing my first home and I stumbled upon an old, foreclosed home sitting on 140 acres. As of January 2017, I finally own my permanent location. How to contact you: For training inquires for 2017, you can contact me at info@454factory.com, or call 703-798-6538 How can people become involved or be future clients: You can contact me above for any inquires or questions about future plans!
