Captains Quarters Happy New Year everybody. We hope you had a peaceful and joy filled Christmas and that you remembered the reason for the season and we hope that Santa brought you everything your heart desired.

In This Issue:

It’s hard to believe we’re into the New Year already and that winter is already half way through. That’s good news for those of us who choose not to travel south to ride or race during this time of year. Of course if you’re a real diehard you can keep after it right here in our neck of the woods. Early January takes us to the yearly Hangover Harescramble at Wicomico Motorsports Park in Southern Md. and there’s an indoor ice race in Reading, Pa you can check out too. We also have a few year-end award banquets to get to yet and of course arenacross racing in Baltimore. In this issue find year-end champions from the Mid Atlantic Motocross Association (MAMA) and a little preview of the ECEA awards banquet. We have Mini O’s champs and a couple of racer reviews. Plus lots of great opportunities to find everything you need for a successful season from all of our advertising supporters. Please remember, if it weren’t for them we couldn’t promote you all in this magazine so please do business with them every chance you get. 2017 will bring lots of changes here at Brapp Magazine, changes that you all hopefully enjoy. Please continue to follow us and share us on all our social media channels and to follow us on our new online digital platform. The future of Brapp Mag lies in your hands.

IMPORTANT INFO HERE - KEEP READING After much research, soul searching and just some good old common sense we have made the decision to discontinue printing and become a DIGITAL ONLY publication beginning in March of 2017. Many of you are already reading it that way and it will allow us to lift the limitations of content space due to high print costs while making it more affordable for our advertisers and easier for you to read. Launching soon on the Android and Apple Stores will be our Free Phone App which will allow you to click right into our digital issue anytime you want. You’ll be able to find issue specific content that will be nowhere else on the web, link directly to photos and videos and shop with all of our advertisers with just a few clicks. I know some of you may be thinking - what if I’m on the cover or my child is in your pages. Don’t be discouraged if you like the print version and want copies you will be able to order one copy or 100. You’ll also be able to download and print from home too if you prefer that method. The bottom line is it keeps us at the track while still providing a great service to the racers, riders, spectators and businesses in our area. Here’s to the future and we thank you for your support. NICHOLAS HENDERSON

This was it, the big show, the last gateway in the NE anyway Loretta Lynn Amateur National Championships. I know m have already qualified in other regions and the South East printing but after this particular race.

Age: 29 years old

Over 900 riders made their way to the Doublin Gap MX burg, PA to take a shot for their entry ticket. I saw one cla the whole way from Utah to make the cut. It was a typical preparation for Tennessee, hot and dusty and great compet promoter for keeping everything running smoothly and fo f track for this event.

What do you like most about racing: Winning of course. Besides that there’s a mental element that has me addicted. No matter whats going on in life when you get to the starting line it’s you and the bike, nothing else goes through your head. That feeling of clarity can’t be matched to anything else.

Bike: CRF450, CRF250, CR250, Rotax 600, Rotax 500 are my primary race bikes Race Number: #29 Favorite Music: Country Favorite Movie: Invincible Hobbies: Is there anything other than motorcycles?

When was your first race: Timonium Indoors 1993. I got a trophy but don’t remember more than that. Goals for 2017: Continue having fun on my bikes, If I can find the financial means I’d like to travel to some bigger races. Win races and stay away from injuries. Any background you want to include: With a few great people behind me I’ve started manufacturing flattrack motorcycle components. At this time we are producing brake parts such as rotors and carriers as well as brake Bryce Shelly from Telford, PA hangers, shock reservoir mounts, steering stem dust caps, adjustable triple - 1 - 1 quick to sweep 85cc wheels and hubs. Do you have any idea how many total races you’ve won at Timonium over the years? Thats a hard question to answer. I’ve won over 100 races between Timonium indoors and outdoors, but I don’t have an exact number. B

Rodney Farris Memorial Indoor Flat Track Races

The vintage Yammies always make an appearance at Timonium

Baltimore County Trail Riders Association Timonium, MD - 12/10/2016 By: BrappMag.com

Early December took us once again back to the Cow Palace at the MD State Fairgrounds for round #1 of the 2016 Indoor Series. I’ve been attending these events since the mid 1980’s and I believe the first ever race here was around 1981. The tradition of Timonium continues with this round hosting 196 riders and a full house of spectators. This was also the first ever invitational indoor with the likes of pro racers Sammy Halbert, Cory Texter and Daniel Bromley on hand to chase the $5000 pro purse offered up by the Baltimore County Trail Riders. This round also saw the first ever use of transponder scoring here at Timonium. Whether we like it or not, the future has arrived. Nick Henderson (29) notches 5 wins on the night

teresting and when you have 12 pros lined up on two rows racing 450cc motorcycles, well you get the picture. Isennock would also go on to win the Pro Sport class later in the program taking home the lion’s share of the $5000 purse followed by Cory Texter then Cory Strickler. Several youth classes were up next where we saw young Kayla Sample take the win in the 50cc chain division. She took her Cobra 50 motorcycle and showed the boys around the course all night long. We also saw double class winner Dylan Dancy grab the checkers in 50cc Shaft Drive and the 65 (7-11) youth division. Then we have Mr. Timonium Nick Henderson. I’m going to start calling him that because I believe he may be one the winningest racers ever here at this venue. I know there have been a lot of greats come through these walls but Nick took five class wins again on this evening and in talking with him, he doesn’t know how many he’s won here over the years but he said since 1993 between the indoor and outdoor tracks he’s notched over 100 wins. Wow and congrats to Nick.

The racing would be intense in most classes on this cold December evening. The Dash for Cash would kick off the main events with AMA Pro Hillclimber Cory Strickler scoring the $500 to win booty. The Open Sportsman class would be up next with local racer and longtime Timonium veteran Jason Isennock grabbing the win after several re starts. The tight indoor course always keeps things inKayla Sample wins 50cc Chain Drive

The Anthracite Trail Riders, a club dedicated to promoting the AOAA, hosted the Lock Haven area, Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc., on a ride through the park. Twenty-nine machines and approximately 40 members participated in the 45 mile ride that spanned the Western and Eastern Reserves with several stops along the way for sight-seeing, lunch and getting to know other members of each club. ATR and CMATV presidents, Warren Remig and Henry Sorgen IV, respectively, were on hand to ensure members had a great time on the trails. Both organizations are non-profit and heavily involved in promoting the off-roading sport through club rides, sponsoring charity events, volunteer work and supporting legislation that expands the Pennsylvania ATV trail systems, and most recently, successfully lobbying state representatives to pass a bill that separates ATV and snowmobile registrations. The Central Mountain ATV Association has also been at the forefront of the Northcentral Pennsylvania ATV Initiative Project, which has been expanding ATV trails by hundreds of miles in the North Central region of the state, and expected to bring an economic boost to the area through more tourism and related activity. The Potomac Vintage Riders (PVR) will host their annual Bike Show and Swap meet the day after their year-end awards banquet for their Vintage Hare Scrambles Series. This show attracts thousands of attendees looking for those hard to find parts and those bikes from days gone by that so many of us still love. They also host a Vintage Bike Show at the event which last year attracted over 125 entries. I spent hours in that show area and every time I turned around I spied another piece that I once owned or wish I would have. It was eye candy galore for the over 30 crowd.

41st Annual Mama Awards Banquet Clarion Resort Fountainbleu Ocean City, MD - December 2, 2016

I’ve been attending this annual celebration for years and no matter where it’s held, a good time is always had by all. This year the celebration moved to the beaches of OCMD for a change of pace and as usual, it was a hit. The Mama organization saw a change in leadership in 2016 and with it brought new venues, old venues revisited, race series shootouts, a WMX race and a Pro Am event among great competition and fun from its families. Different in the awards presentations brought new President Charles Sviland and new VP Rich Hutchins to the podium to congratulate many of the special award winners. As always there was lots of gold given away on the night and door prizes to know end. A special treat saw B Line Racings Joe Beck buy back the pit bike from raffle winner Rich Hutchins (no it wasn’t rigged) so a member of the racing body could take home the prize. Not only did the Brandan Allen family win the bike they received the award for the furthest distance traveled to the banquet from Charlottesville, Va. To me it seemed everyone had a blast, special awards were given and many champions were crowned. The 2017 race schedule was released and you can see that here on the adjoining page. The new year promises to be bigger and better than ever so hold on to your hat and get all the info you need for the new season at: www. mamamx.com B

CHAPLAINS CORNER By: Jim Bull It’s a New Year - How About We All Make Some Resolutions I recently made a post on social media that simply said - Don’t wait for a life changing event to change your life. Isn’t that what the New Year is always about, making those New Year resolutions to make the changes we desire in life? Whether it is to make more money or to improve our health, don’t they always revolve around making a major change to our lifestyle? I went to Google to check the definition of resolution and here is what I found:

res·o·lu·tion - noun 1. 2.

A firm decision to do or not to do something. synonyms: intention, resolve, decision, intent, aim, plan; The action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter. synonyms: solution to, answer to, end to, ending to, settle ment of, conclusion to “a satisfactory resolution of the problem”

RACER REVIEW TODD STITH #94 Age: 15 years Hometown: Edgewater, MD Years Racing: 11 Classes: Supermini, School Boy 1, 125 B, 250 B Bike: YZ125 and YZ250F Race #: 94 Favorite Music: Rap Favorite Movie: Step Brothers Hobbies: Motocross, riding bicycles and hanging out with family. Sponsors: Alias MX, Loudoun Motorsports, Mom and Dad First Race: My first race was at Budds Creek in 2006 - I got 5th place. Past Accomplishments: 21st in Supermini 2 in SX and 25th in MX at Mini Olympics in 2016. I also got 17th in 450 at Mini Olympics in 2015. I won 4 Mama Championships in 2016.

What about you - do you desire a satisfactory resolution to a problem and if so how do you intend to achieve that solution? Isn’t that always the tough part? Now I believe that whether you consider yourself a Christian or not - you’re going to probably make some resolutions this year. And I bet that most of us will find struggle in keeping to those resolutions. I’ll also ask you this, what if you had someone to help keep you accountable to your resolutions. Someone you could call to and lean on when the going gets tough, or even someone you could reach out to when you have a victory. I would ask you to consider this year if you haven’t already to ask God into your life or if you do know God, to try and grow closer in your relationship with him. Below are some promises that God has made to us if we will just trust in him. Isaiah 41:10 NIV - So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Proverbs 3: 5-6 NIV - Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Matthew 7: 7 NIV - Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Wow, how about that last one. I would encourage you that no matter where you are at in your life or what may have happened to you in the past to make a resolution this year to get to know God. Trusting in God can allow you to have the strength you need in all situations. Whether it be to lose some unwanted pounds, to repair a relationship or to charge harder on that last lap in your moto. Give God a try and I bet those resolutions will get easier all the time.

Finish at LL: Never been there. What do you like most about racing: My favorite part about racing is the adrenaline that comes when you get the holeshot and lead the whole race. I also enjoy hitting turns and jumps perfect. Lastly I enjoy hanging out with all my friends on the weekend. What or who motivates you to race: My dad races and was very fast so I want to be like him and one up him. Goals for 2017: My goals for 2017 are to make it to Loretta Lynns in Schoolboy 1 and 2 and get top 15 at the Mini Olympics in both classes. Comments: Thank you very much to Mr. Jim for all the photos he takes every weekend and all the exposure he gets everyone at the track from beginner to experts and everything in between. B

Registration, Titling and Insuring Your ATV Who must register and title?

All ATVs in Pennsylvania, except ATVs used solely for business or agricultural purposes, need to be registered and titled with DCNR. ATVs used in Pennsylvania must be registered and titled with DCNR’s Snowmobile/ATV Section. The ATV registration and titling fees are NOT user fees for the privilege of using trails on state-owned land. The fees provide funding to administer the program, maintain trails in DCNR-managed parks and forests, and provide grants to profit and non-profit organizations for developing additional riding opportunities.

Two Types of Registrations Apply: • Registration

For ATVS used anywhere off of your own property or property leased by you, such as designated State Forest trails. $20 fee every two years

• Limited Registration

For ATVs used solely on your own land or land leased by you. Free registration No expiration, unless ownership of vehicle changes.

Plates and Decals

An ATV owner will be issued a registration plate for the vehicle. An expiration sticker to be affixed to the plate will be issued for standard registrations.

Liability Insurance

If you are using your ATV solely on land owned or leased by you, you are not required to get liability insurance. All other riders must carry liability insurance. Proof of that insurance must be carried with you when you ride. There are no minimum requirements or coverage standards established by DCNR or the Snowmobile/ATV Law for the liability insurance.
