The AMA Pro’s came to the White Rose Motorcycle Club in the peaceful foothills of Southern York County, PA in early June to kick offRound #1 of their 2017 season. This event is always a great time for me as this was the first motorcycle race I ever attended at the young age of two in the mid 1960’s. So I guess I can blame this club for my addiction to the sport of motorcycling and give them props at the same time. The WRMC began 65 years ago getting people hooked by offering a great club atmosphere and offering several different types of events each year.
One other mention before I tell you who won. I want to give a big shout out to Miss Molly Carbon. Molly is the only gal competing on the pro circuit and she rides in both the 450 Pro and the Xtreme divisions. I got a brief chance to speak with Molly in between runs on this day and she told me her only goal was to make it to the top of the hill. Not only did Molly hit the top on all her runs she also managed to grab a 4th place finish in the 450 class against 13 other competitors. Way to go Molly.
Sometimes this happens Jay Sallstrom wins the 450 Pro class.
At their club grounds near Jefferson, Pa they hold two pro hillclimbs each year with the next for 2017 being on Sunday September 24th. They also hold trials competitions here and a couple of different bike shows and swap meets each year. Please check out their full schedule online at: www.whiterosemc.org
In other racing Jay Stallstrom would grab the win in the 450 class while finishing second in both the Xtreme and Unlimited divisions behind John Koester with Vinny Nuzzolilli taking third in both big bike classes. The really cool thing about it was all these competitors looked to be under the age of 25, not such an old man’s thing anymore. Props go out to vet rider Phil Libhart whos been around a few years and probably doesn’t fit that age bracket. Phil is a pro flat track racer and hill climber with many wins under his belt, he managed a third today in the 450 class.
As I mentioned I’ve been coming here for years and things have definitely changed over the years. I remember Pro Hillclimbing as an older man’s sport mostly riding older style H-D’s, Triumphs and the likes. I guess with the advent of the modern motocross machine the AMA developed a stock 450 class to try and get new blood in the sport. The good news is it looks like it’s been a success. A guy or a gal can go and buy a stock 450 single at the local dealer and with a few modifications be heading up the hill. They still offer two other classes, the Xtreme and Unlimited which are differentiated by motor size but just about anything goes there as long as

Whats going on in WNYOA? WNYOA has had a great few Keefer pushing hard rounds of racing since their finished with a 2nd place for the day at season opener. Chuck Reed Seneca Highlands in put a great event on at the Odessa Ny Becky Jones Tribute Race at Seneca Highlands. I was able to chat with Matthew Keefer about the track, “Seneca highlands was an excellent race this year. With crazy amounts of rain the week before, the track workers did an awesome job setting up a fun, fast, and flowing track. The dirt up there is second to none and holds up surprisingly well even when muddy. It’s one of the faster WNYOA tracks with more field sections and more open woods sections. That makes it a perfect place to hold a GNCC which is where the Tomahawk GNCC is located.” GNCC Coastal Racing’s team member Craig Delong was able to take the win at this race for bikes followed by Keefer, with second, and Grant Maryott finishing off the podium in third. GNCC XC rider Chris Borich took the win for quads followed by Hunter Hart and Marty Christofferson in third. Valley View Dirt Riders was up next for the WNYOA Championship Series. The weather was great, the track was well thought out, and the racers really enjoyed their weekend. I caught up with Woman’s bike rider Cheyenne Sisenstein to talk to her about her thoughts on the track. “From creeks, to roots, to ruts, to some mud, and even some grass track, Valley View had it all! From an easy-going first few miles into foot deep ruts for some length, you never knew what was Cheyenne Sisenstein came to the race prepared and coming the first time around. Dalended up taking the win for the day in the Woman’s las made an awesome track with a Bike class at Valley View little bit of everything. It was a lot Dirt Riders of fun and had something for everyone.” I definitely agreed with Cheyenne from what I saw everyone was having a great time. Mathew Keefer had another solid race at Valley View taking the win for the day. Grant Maryott had an impressive ride making up a lot of time in the last few laps almost catching Keefer feet before the finish line, but fell a little short and took second for the day. Benjamin Bouwens finished the podium off with a solid third place. There was another close battle in the quad race with 2 seconds difference between first and second. Marty Christofferson took the win followed by Greg Covert in second, and Steven Covert in third. That brings us to WNYOA’ s most recent event, The Tomahawk in Odessa NY, a co-sanctioned race with GNCC. The GNCC format is a little different from WNYOA. The series is a two day event with all quad races and micro races on Saturday, and all bikes racing on Sunday. The weather in Odessa was hot, so not only did the riders have to battle against the Vet A rider Bryan Vonderchek makes his way through pro track, they had to batpits. Vonderchek ends up 13th tle the weather and for the day themselves on how much they could endure. I talked with Bryan Vonderchek Vet A Quad rider from Harding, PA Monday night about the race. Vonderchek went on to to tell me, “The

tomahawk GNCC this year was fun. The early rain definitely helped keep the dust down but also made exposing the roots even easier. The track got pretty brutal as the afternoon race wore on. Traction was hard to come by and the hill climbs were getting tougher each lap. Track layout after the 4 mile mark was very fast. The fields did start to develop some pretty deep braking bumps and outside berms offered very good speed when exiting corners. It felt as the temps were rising as the race progressed. The creek was a welcome relief every lap. We got to do the FMF PowerPoint hill climb on the first lap and that was it. Heard a pretty bad bottleneck formed there and they took it out. I was happy with my finish and am looking forward to my next GNCC. These races are always a learning experience, and I thoroughly enjoy that.” Here are just a few results Hannah Hunter takes from WNYOA riders from the win for the Amateur woman’s Class morning and the afternoon quad race. In the WXC Katelyn Osburn of Greene, NY took first. Following in her footsteps, Hannah Hunter also took first in the Woman’s amateur class. In the 16-18 C class, Mason Salsman of Waverly, NY took 1st Tavelli launches his way along with Colby Rivas of into a solid 7th place finish Monticello, NY in the school boy Jr. 13-15 class. Starting in the afternoon XC1, Walker Fowler took the win followed by Adam Mcgill in second, and Chris Borich. In XC2 The WNYOA riders stormed the podium with Devon Feehan out of Windsor, NY taking first, Greg Covert of Ithaca, NY taking second, and Hunter Hart of Newfield, NY in third. Over to the College A class, Boedy Lamoreaux out of Windsor, NY took 3rd, Andy Tavelli of Berkshire, NY took 7th, and Matt Reese out of Columbia Crossroads, PA took 8th. In the Jr. A 22+ Steven Covert of Ithaca, NY took the win, and Zachary Dean of Addison, NY finished third. After the quad race they had the micro/youth races for bike and quads on Saturday to end the day. My good friend Myrakle Ray, age 9, from Harpursville, NY told me that her favorite part of the day was “Racing!” She went on to tell me that she liked the track, “the fields were awesome so I could fly through them, but the woods I wasn’t too crazy for … it was very tight, I couldn’t pass anyone or anything. I loved being back to racing. It’s my favorite thing to do. I liked it a lot, except for flipping.” Myrakle flipped her quad during the race, but that didn’t stop her from finishing. As I was watching these little kids during their race I couldn’t help but think that the future of the the sport is in good hands. Lets take a look at some of the results for WNYOA’s youth riders. In the mini quads, we had Garrett Studer of Windsor, NY take first in the 90 (8-12) class with Shayne Crull of New Bloomfield, PA Myrakle Ray showing off her skills as she wheelies up a hill to make up some time
following in second. The girls 8-15 ATV class looked very competitive Aspen Makela of VanEtten, NY took 4th followed by Porshchia Bennett of Towanda, PA in 5th, Jacy Knapp of Cayuta, NY in 7th, and Alexandra Streeter of Waverly, NY in 8th. Over to the mini bikes in the 85cc 7-11 class, Grant Davis out of Meshoppen, PA took the win, followed by Cooper Jones out of Lawton, PA in second place. Jumping to the girls 8-15 mini class, Jocelyn Barnes from Equinunk, PA made the podium with a first place and fellow WNYOA member, Ariel Higley out of Owego, NY also finished well with a 4th place. The youth of WNYOA definitely stormed the Tomahawk! Sunday’s race was finally here. The 10 AM race is a 2 hour race made up of the C classes, and Sportsman classes. It was heating up fast on and off the track, so I knew it was going to be Ward pulls the hole shot for the sportsman a class and finishes a tough day for everystrong with a 2nd place one. WNYOA’s member Brett Ward from Cincinnatus, NY was able to take the hole shot in the Sportsman A class. Brett was coming back from an injury but was able to hold off the competition and finish strong with a 2nd place. XC 2 quad rider Marty Christofferson not only races quads but he races bikes as well. Christofferson took 4th in the sportsman B class. Jumping over to the Trail Riders class, Matt Lane of Sayre, PA also had a great start for the day and was able to keep up the momentum and take first in the class followed by Ryan Carnes in second, and Kris Howland in third, both from Gillett, PA.

Finally the last race of the day, starting at the hottest part of the day and lasting for three hours. This race consist of pro classes and A/B classes. Keefer also grabbed the holeshot for 250 A. I wanted to talk to AA rider Andrew Gross who rode the 250A class to see how his race was. Gross stated “I was about mid-pack off the start. The dust was pretty bad in the beginning being behind so many people. Especially in the fields. So I basically just spent time making passes on the first lap trying to make up as much ground as possible. The woods were completely the opposite of the fields. Very slick, almost like riding on ice. As the race went on, the ground got tacky and was much better for traction. After a couple falls here and there, I decided to keep a smooth, consistent pace and choose the best lines possible. After all the quads and morning bikes racing on the track, it was extremely rough. Specifically the braking and acceleration bumps however, after racing at the same location 3 weeks ago, I knew what I was in for. In a GNCC, line choice is key. If you can pick the smoothest, fastest line and ride it faster than everyone else for 3 hours, then you’re set up for a good finish. I made my Pit stop at the 1.5 hour mark, filled with gas and pulled back on the track in about 6 seconds. I noticed that throughout the race, the temperature was definitely increasing. All the water in my camelback was just about too warm to drink so I chose to make one more stop for a quick sip of water. I slowly worked my way from 15th to 6th place in the 250A class and that is where I remained for the last few laps of the race.” Gross not only finished 6th for GNCC but first place for wnyoa. Great job Andrew! Some more bike results go as followed, XC1, 1st Thad Duvall, 2nd Ryan Sipes, and 3rd Steward Baylor. In open A Ben “Batman” Bouwens out of Newark, NY finished 2nd, Spencer Hoyt out of Dryden Ny finished 5th, Dallas Micha 6th and Grant Maryott 8th. Moving to Vet A, TJ McMahon out of Petersburgh, NY took 1st, Matt Quick from Unadilla NY took 4th, and Buddy Barnes from Equinunk, PA finishing 8th for the day. The weather was brutal and the competition was stiff but everyone’s hard work and determination at Tomahawk GNCC is definitely showing in your race results. AMA East H.S. Round 5 Green Marble Enduro Riders - Rocket Raceway Story: Kenny Held Photos: Shannon Bloom - Dan Morton June 3-4, 2017 - Three Springs, PA Round 5 of the AMA East H.S. Series hosted by Green Marble Enduro Riders. This was a triple sanctioned event combing AMA East, ECEA and D6. 600 + racers were launched this weekend at Rocket Raceway. ECEA would oversee what was to be PA’s largest regional event to Date. The 600+ bikes and quads provided a great family fun weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect and rain several days before left the wooded section with great traction. The main event on Sunday would give us 16 AA Racers from up and down the East Coast. Local favorites Ryder Lafferty, Wild Wally Palmer and Kyle Palmer would immediately set the pace for what was to be a 2 hour event over 9 miles of Grass Track, Woods and Moto. Out of the woods first was Ryder Lafferty with a 6 second lead over Palmer. Keeping them honest in 3rd postion was last years #1 plate holder Kyle McDonal. Kyle under strict orders to take it easy following a recent wrist surgery. Unfortunately sitting track side for Kyle is anything but easy so he was out there doing what he loves best. By the white flag lap Laferty would exit the woods and enter the open MX track where Palmer could be seen trying to reel him in. Palmer, a great local MX racer as well, just could not make up for the Lafferty woods expertise that goes back 3 generations. Lafferty held his lead to the checkers with Palmer only 30 seconds back. McDonal would secure 3rd position. Great Job boys!
In the C Event the Schoolboy Class once again set the pace. These kids are fast! Most of them racing the Youth event the day before. An added 1.5 miles to keep them Fast Kidz guessing would put them on a 8 mile course of the same Woods Grass Track and Moto. On the first lap it was KTM 125 mounted Mike Beeler Jr with the fastest “C” lap time. In tow was KTM 105 mounted Mad Max Fernandez. There just was no stopping Beeler as he would define the lines that the AA’s would use in the next heat. Beeler only 13 years old has been continuing to dominate in the ECEA, AMA East and GNCC series this year. The top 3 would show Beeler, Fernandez and C open racer Sean Covert. In the 4 wheel event the battle would be between the A Open racers and a well experienced A Vet pilot. After the adjusted times it would be Joshua Lynn outing Dalton Daglovitch by a mere 5 seconds. 3rd place would go to local favorite Brandon Romito. In the Youth Main it was local favorite, D6 racer Daniel Worhach taking top honors. Saturday would be the Youth events for both 2 wheel and 4 wheel. First at the gate were the Pee Wee 50cc racers. The chatter in the pits were already giving the win to local 50 senior racer Ryder Sigety who was going to duel local sand racer Carter “Pretzel Monster” Przemelewski. This was not to be the case. Pretzel had fire in his eyes this day and you could
see his determination at the starting line. He had the look of a 450 SX racer at the 30 second board. When the flag dropped it was Pretzel all the way. He would maintain a 1-2 minute lead the entire race. Although Sigety was demonstrating his rock skills, the short but technical MX section would hold him back. Hunter Gardner was holding 3rd position and was drafting Sigety. The 3 of them would walk away from the rest with freight train momentum. Przemelewsy, Sigety and Gardner would be the final.
In the Youth Main all eyes were once again upon Mad Max Fernandez and the Beast from the East Beeler. Max on the front row and Beeler from the second row were the anticipated favorites. Both from different classes would get their respective hole shots. Max immediately pulling away from the rest of his class and now Beeler on the charge trying to pass the row in front of him. At the end of the first lap it was Beeler with an 18 second faster lap time. The 2 would be battling side by side by the 3rd lap. This would continue for the next 2 laps but it would be Beeler with the adjusted time victory at the end of the 5th lap. Max Fernandez was 2nd and Brayden Nollete taking final podium position. B
In the Jr’s heat local new comer Griere Moir, aboard his KTM 65, checked out on the first lap leaving behind experienced racers Seelman and Gribbin. Seelman would do his best to draft Moir but just could not keep the pace. Gribbin and Top 5 Main Event (2 Wheel) 1. Ryder LafSeelman, both sand racers by trade were ferty, “Wild” Wally Palmer, Kyle McDonal, holding their own and would finish 2nd Billy Schenberg, Kyle Tino and 3rd behind Moir.

The winter season runs from the day following the last day of the regular or extended antlerless deer season as established by the Game Commision through the following April 1. There are some trails that remain closed until after the late muzzleloader season. Please check the forest distrcit web pages for current access advisories on when trails open for the winter season. Pike County - Burnt Mills - 7 Miles of summer and winter trail. Access is from a parking area on Route 402 one mile south of Porters Lake. Rgistered Class II ATV’s are permitted on this trail that are less that 58” in width and less than 1,200 pounds. Adams & Cumberland Counties - 36 miles of summer trail. During the winter season the trail system is expanded to 42 miles by using some dirt roads that are gated during the winter. Part of the trail system is shared with snowmobiles when there is sufficient snowfall. The trail is located between Big Flat and Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Access to these are from parking lots located at Big Flat along Shippensburg Road about 1-1/4 miles nort of its intersection with Route 233 and on Piney Mountain along Bendersville Road south of Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Our test rider had a good day finishing the event in the B Super Senior division aboard the stock bike. He said that the only thing he would change for next time would be to add a set of handguards and mount up some different tires. Race this bike at an expert or a AA level, probably not. But if you are a beginner rider or possibly a weekend racer out for a fun and enjoyable day then this might be a mount that you should check out.

RORR is in Tamaqua and Thorn is from Tamaqua… a local and former ECEA FastKIDZ, he has had his ups and downs but this weekend Thorn Devlin has proved he is the master of the rock runs taking the overall win on the day. On his tail was another young rider… Ryder Lafferty who held tight to take second overall and RORR member and another youngin from the FastKIDZ core Jared Mohn took the 3rd spot. I bumped into Thorn during the morning race at his pit. I’ve watched this guy race since he was on 65’s and I asked him, so what’s the agenda for this year. He simply said, the agenda is to win today and then we’ll worry about the next one. 06/19/17 - A whirlwind of racing events this past weekend for Team Perfect Storm. Our six members and their families ascended upon three different venues. First on tap was Round 6 of The ECEA Hare Scramble series at famous Tamaqua PA. This is the toughest in the series with a combination of silty black coal dirt and lots of rocks. Their wooded sections are littered with abrupt up hill and downhill sections. The team took this day in stride with a few of our members rising to the top. The always Smiling Cate Nash took the 1st Place podium finish for the Jr. Girls with the swift and smooth Caleb Baltimore grabbing the 2nd Place podium finish for 7-11 85. Julian Wojcik, despite a bad get off rounded out the podium boxes and landed in 3rd place 12-15 85cc. Ricky Anewalt Jr. in the 14-16 SM grabbed a top 5 finish. Kenito Held Finished 6th and Vincent Caramanna held the 7th place spot until the last lap where he was overtaken and would settle for 8th. As four members headed north to the Black Sky WYNOA/AMA East in Colesville, NY, Caleb Baltimore headed across PA to Evansville MX where he would enter the Supercross evening event under the lights. This was the right move for Caleb as he finished 3rd for the evening against the local favorites. Great showing Caleb!

THE BIG RACE IS COMING - DO NOT GIVE UP It’s just about that time of the year again. Yes, I know we have almost a month yet, depending on your time frame of reading this article but it will be here before you know it. I’d like to congratulate all who made the cut for making the big show. We all know that it takes countless hours of dedication to make it happen. Whether it be the practice and race time, doing maintenance on the bikes, traveling to different regions to qualify, not running out of money, etc. But I believe more importantly it’s just comes down to not quitting. Think about it. I’m sure there were times when you didn’t feel like driving all that distance, or maybe working on the bikes to the wee hours of the morning, heck there might have been times when you didn’t even feel like riding. But you kept going, you didn’t quit, you refused to give up. I applaud you all for that and for having a reason - to “do good” or “not to quit”. How about in other areas of your life - do you take the same approach? Let’s go back to my favorite book on success “the Bible” and see what it says...
The four members who headed north entered into a hot box. Even with early start time, the heat and humidity came on fast and strong. Kenito Held was battling with Dulaney Motorsports, Nathan Dulaney til Nathan blew out his front wheel on a stump allowing Kenito to take over 1st position in the 7-11 85cc. Julian Wojcik still suffering from a sore shoulder left by RORR would succumb to the heat and had to settle for a mid-pack finish in 12-15 85. Ricky Anewalt Jr. would turn a lot of heads in the 14-16 SM class finishing 2nd. I think they are still asking who he was? Vincent Caramanna took off really strong but a first lap get off and a 15 min nose bleed and facial laceration would end his day early. With the next two weeks off from racing TPS will enter training with some together and some individually to be well prepared for the upcoming events. All this traveling couldn’t be done without the help and support of our families and sponsors! Galatians 6: 9 says: Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up. You spent countless hours on your bike “doing good” even though you may have been weary at times and because you “didn’t give up” you are now “reaping the rewards” of traveling to Tennessee to compete in the most prestigious amateur motocross race in the world. I thank God every day for the written words and wisdom that he has given us through the Bible. So many times in life we learn principles that have been derived from this book but we don’t even realize it. Imagine if you applied the above wisdom to all areas of your life. By not only doing good on the track or as your racers mechanic but by also doing your best in school or at your job. Maybe it’s in another area of your life by helping others or contributing to a team. And please trust me as I have tested this scripture over and over in my life. I have found that the most important words given us here are the “do not give up” part. Yes we have to do good, but the real solution is to not give up, to keep going no matter what.

I’ve read other success principles and can attest from my own experience in life that many of us fail because we quit right before we were about to hit the jackpot. I’d encourage you to think about some scenarios in your own life and make your own conclusions. I’d also encourage you if you don’t already to pick up that little black book (the Bible) now and then and see what else it may say. So best wishes at the ranch and in everything you do in life.

Twenty-nine machines and approximately 40 members participated in the 45 mile ride that spanned the Western and Eastern Reserves with several stops along the way for sight-seeing, lunch and getting to know other members of each club. ATR and CMATV presidents, Warren Remig and Henry Sorgen IV, respectively, were on hand to ensure members had a great time on the trails. Both organizations are non-profit and heavily involved in promoting the off-roading sport through club rides, sponsoring charity events, volunteer work and supporting legislation that expands the Pennsylvania ATV trail systems, and most recently, successfully lobbying state representatives to pass a bill that separates ATV and snowmobile registrations. The Central Mountain ATV Association has also been at the forefront of the Northcentral Pennsylvania ATV Initiative Project, which has been expanding ATV trails by hundreds of miles in the North Central region of the state, and expected to bring an economic boost to the area through more tourism and related activity.
