Captains Quarters

Rain, rain go away, the song just keeps playing over and over in my head. Lol What a year its been in that regard. It was fun for awhile but, well you know. I do have to hand it to you all however. Close to 100 riders at the Michaux Enduro and it rained inches of rain in the days prior to and the day of the event. Doublin Gap Yamaha Pro Am – Hurricane Suzie Q or whatever it was almost cancelled that race. It was a win for us however that weekend but never fear the rains came storming back to drench the second half of the Kevin Crine Memorial race at Budds Creek. I guess the good news is that most of us aren’t farmers, they have even bigger challenges with this crazy weather year than we certainly have. Anyhow, always look for the bright spot, no puns intended. Regardless, race and ride we did. In between the rain drops, before during and after the rain drops. Like I said in a blog earlier last month, if we’re going to let the weather control our activities, we might as well all take up bowling – hey Woz Bowls. I’m just full of it this month, aren’t I. So thanks for tuning into our Fall issue and Happy Halloween to everybody. I know this is a favorite holiday for many so please scare responsibly and don’t eat too much candy. In this issue you’ll still find lots of great race coverage and off-road riding fun. 40 plus Open Pro Am riders at Doublin Gap. Miles Mountain was good, VFTR had a great Enduro and so did Michaux until we had to stop half way thru, everyone still had fun. And at the Kevin Crine Memorial the rider count was down but we still did what we went there to do. Thanks to all of you who ride, race, support and work in the sport we continue to move along. Off road and racing is in our blood and in our blood, it will stay. Please enjoy the issue and until next time.

SPER - 48th Annual Michaux Enduro Michaux State Forest - Fayetteville, PA Sept. 9, 2018 By: Jim Bull

The racers of the East Coast Enduro Association take on Mother Nature and win. The South Penn Enduro Riders hosted their annual fall enduro in the Michaux State Forest battling all odds and pulling of another great event. Several inches of rain fell once again in the days prior to, and during the event. This area that was already saturated is a favorite to many and this event is in its 48th year here. Special thanks to the DCNR for cooperating with the club and letting them hold the event in these conditions. 97 riders braved the cold and the rain, we had about a 30 degree temperature drop overnight and lots of rain on top of an already wet forest. Michaux drains well because you are racing on a mountain but some of the riders told me there were areas out there that the water was up to your gas tank. Before the race started, South Penn had announced that there would be a modified second loop but in the end the race was called after the first loop. I’m not sure if that was a club call or a DCNR call but either way I’m sure it was the best call. Everyone I spoke with after the race had a blast out there and said they would do it again. After all, if we let the weather dictate our life then we might as well go trade our rides in on an Xbox – NOT. Again, thanks to all involved for making the event happen, especially to the riders who showed up to ride, no matter what. Check out some of the top finishers on the day then head over to our website to see all images from the event at: www.brappmag.com. Next up for us is the Scrub Pine Enduro in mid-October, we hope to see you all there. B

WHAT GOT YOU STATED RACING MX: My dad WHEN WAS YOUR FIRST RACE: 2006 I think at Seaford. HOW DID YOU DO: I did really bad, I was riding a 1983 PW 50 and I still have it. GOALS FOR 2019: I decided to go A after Lorettas this year and I grabbed a moto win at Miles Mountain in 250 A. I want to hit as many Pro Ams as I can in 2019 and earn a top 10 finish in the A divisions at Loretta Lynns. Then I want to qualify for Unadilla. BRAPPMAG THOUGHTS: We’ve been watching Cody race since he was a young boy and I ‘ve always admired his talents on the track as well as his humble attitude off the track. He was fast on the minis and has carried that through to the big bikes as well. I would have liked to see him stay B for the rest of this year, but he was anxious to go expert and cut his teeth in the big leagues. I’m sure with his attitude and determination he will go far. Keep an eye on him if you see him at the track, he should be easy to find near the front of the pack. Sponsors, if you’re looking for a good guy to help then Cody may be the one. B

The Anthracite Trail Riders, a club dedicated to promoting the AOAA, hosted the Lock Haven area, Central Mountain ATV Association, Inc., on a ride through the park. Twenty-nine machines and approximately 40 members participated in the 45 mile ride that spanned the Western and Eastern Reserves with several stops along the way for sight-seeing, lunch and getting to know other members of each club. Rausch Creek Rally in Bear Valley - Raffle Run

There’s always a good turnout for a Rausch Creek Raffle Run

August 18, 2018 Valley View, PA By: Jim Bull

In mid - August the Rausch Creek Trail Riders hosted their annual Rally In Bear Valley on their properties near Valley View, Pa. Over 850 riders came out to enjoy the 25-mile trail ride and raffle run to help raise money for three local fire companies. This ride is enjoyed every year by many and is an opportunity to ride some of the vast trail offerings here without being a member of the Rausch Creek TrailRiders. As you all know it’s been very rainy here in our region and in the days prior to the event several inches of rain fell in the area. Props to the landowner and the club for pulling this event off. Saturday offered us a great day to ride with great temperatures and just a slight occasional mist. I’d recommend you get this ride in your calendar for next season and please read on below if you want more details about a great affordable place to ride. What is Rausch Creek Trailriders? Rausch Creek Trailriders is a close-knit community of riding enthusiasts from all over the Mid-Atlantic region. RCTR is entirely membership based, so only current members and their guests can ride. There are no daily riding options, but it is easy for anyone to join. Benefits of Joining the Trailriders Club. As a member, you too will enjoy: - 8500 acres of all types of trail riding. - Having someone to call when something goes wrong on the trail. - Weekly guided group rides. - Regularly scheduled social/riding events. Weekly newsletters. - “Members Only” online forums. - Free overnight camping. - Long-term camping optional in our 600-acre campground. - Get all the details at: www.rauschcreekracing.com

CENTRAL MOUNTAINS ATV ASSOCIATION – POKER CHIP RUN Sponsored by – Brooks Powersports Clinton to Potter County - August 4, 2018

CROSS FORK, PA

By: Jim Bull

CABINS, FULL HOOK UP RV SITES PETS WELCOME - OPEN YEAR ROUND HOME OF THE RATTLESNAKE ENDURO ATV ACCESS RIGHT FROM YOUR SITE

157 riders participated in the second CMATVA Poker Chip Run of 2018 which included 47 members on 37 machines in addition to many non-members. The CMATVA is a group of dedicated riders that hit the trails twice a month, each month of the year. Typically, you need to be a member of the association to participate, but their annual runs work a little differently. You see, not only does this group log on miles, they are also one of the most active groups I know of in the region that fights for our rights to ride. They are continually working with the DCNR and local governments to help get trails opened in PA. www.QUIETOAKS.org These poker chip runs, now in their second-year help raise money to fight the fight. Monies go to helping sign trails and purchase equipment needed to get out there and make it happen. There are many expenses in getting legal trails established and with the completion of their North Central PA Trail Initiative the goal is to have 1800 miles of legal riding available in the area by 2024. Todays run had two different aspects to it. Riders could either start from the Potter County Family Campground and travel south to the Quiet Oaks Campground in Clinton County and back or like most, start at Quiet Oaks and start out traveling North. Either direction was fine and CMATVA members would guide the ride from both points. In all, riders traveled 110 miles and made various stops along the way all while not only having a chance to win cash and prizes but also knowing that they were helping to improve trail riding in PA. After the event on Sunday a bunch of members traveled another 80 miles on a beautiful August day in the PA Wilds, just another perk of being a member of the association. So, we would ask you, if you like to ride and want to help support the future of riding in PA that you either consider purchasing a membership and come riding with us or simply attend one of our events to help raise money for the cause. Heck, either is super affordable plus a ton of fun. Get all the details at: www.cmatva.org and we hope to see you out on the trail. B

Superczynski Racing! By: Courtney Kaczka Some think that racing is in the blood. I think it is in the heart. Racers and their friends and family join hearts weekend after weekend, event after event, as they compete, struggle, succeed, overcome, share, heal, learn, laugh, cry, and, in a deep seeded way, CONNECT. These fellow racers and friends get labeled as our “race family” and will 100% have your back no matter how long ago you saw each other. But its also special to recognize those families that are truly related and have multiple generations of relatives active in the motocross community. They typically show core strength as a family and as positive promoters of the sport. One such family is the Superczynski Family from Maryland. Diane Sanford originally raced stand up jet-skis along the Eastern Shore during the late 80s and much of the 1990s. Becoming Pro in 1994, she was more than just your weekend warrior. Brother, Pat Sanford, also raced jet skis and they were both active in the Jet Ski community. When Di needed a mechanic, Pat introduced her to Michael Superczynski and the rest, as they say, “is history.” Mike began wrenching on Di’s skis, getting involved in racing, and dating the hot jet ski calendar girl- Diane. Mike and his family had ridden trail bikes growing up and Di and Pat Sanford had dirt bikes too so as they married they didn’t stop racing but switched to motocross.. Mike and Di had their first race together at a Supercross race at the International Speedway/Budds Creek in the early 2000s. They continued on dirt bikes, Di even racing when first starting their family, and they have become quite the ambassadors for the sport and family racing. Both sons (now teen and young adult) and both parents are still fully dedicated to racing motocross. The family is found racing each race of the Middle Atlantic Motocross Series, Mini-Os, and any other race that they can fit in. Mike is on the Board for MAMA and Diane is seen as a social coordinator with her outgoing personality and never ending glass of wine in the evening. Mike, Di, Cole, and Troy now share race-stories and “remember- when” memories with so many of us in the motocross community. The Superczynski family (and the Sanfords too) bring a rich history of racing, both on the water and in the dirt, from the Mid-Atlantic area and can be heard laughing and entertaining friends at night with race stories by the firepit. The rest of the race community are proud to consider them family as well and respect the family commitment, connections, and MX love that they bring. Salute!!! Valley Forge Trail Riders Moonshine Enduro VFTR / HMDR Combined Event Sept. 15-16, 2018

Darn near 350 adventurous riders at the 2018 Moonshine Enduro. Thanks for coming and tell a friend who missed it! -VFTR BrappMag couldn’t make it out to this one so below find a few comments from some riders who did! RIDER QUOTES Yesterday was a long day on the trails. The Moonshine Enduro was some of the most gnarly, rocky, and snotty trail I’ve ridden in a long time. I’m happy to come out with the overall win and healthy. I’m absolutely in love with my @gasgasusa 300xc and really clicking well with it. A huge thank you to my family for chasing me around yesterday and keeping me fueled up. Thank you all that make this possible! #21daywippa @faroffroad JD Performance Sidi Moto USA Moose Thorn Devlin wins the Moonshine Racing Bell Powersports XCGear @dpbrakesracing #paigeruanepowersportinsurance Thorn Devlin – 2018 Grand Champion

Dealers Welcome

I want to thank all the VFTR/HMDR members for putting together a great event. It takes a lot of hard work from a dedicated bunch of riders to put on such a great event. Those trails are just what I like in an Enduro. It was like a Moonshine of yester year. As tired as I got I had a great time. The first AA section was my personal favorite. Now I got to drop some more weight and get in better shape for next year! Thank you all! YAMAHA ALL STAR PRO AM Doublin Gap MX - MDRA Series Round #11 Sept. 15-16, 2018 By: BrappMag.com Let me tell you, the racing in September is always red hot in our region of the country beginning with Miles Mountain on Labor Day and concluding with the Kevin Crine Memorial Race at Budds Creek. I have to say though that this event at Doublin Gap definitely scored at the top of the list. All good events mind you but there’s nothing like a full gate of expert riders hitting the first turn at a local racing venue. I also talked to some guys that have been racing at this facility for decades and they all said that they had never seen the track this rough and with so many lines (pro-am motocross). How about the always fun Barbie Jeep racing, a pig roast and a great band on Saturday night and lots of riders on the gates. A truck giveaway at riders meeting, tons of cash on the line and how about that sunshine all weekend, maybe my favorite part. Anyhow, props to the Yentzers, the sponsors and of course the racers for making an appearance. A great weekend seemed to be had by all, especially Joey Crown from Metamora, Michigan who took home the lions share of the $10,000 that was on the line. Check out the top five finishers here then head over to the MDRA website to see the rest and as always you can check out images from all classes at www.brappmag.com or on the photo tab on our phone app. Also make sure you catch up with the MDRA for their final round of the season Oct. 13-14 at the Happy Ramblers Motorcycle Club and their fun day and year end banquet on November 10th. 6TH ANNUAL KEVIN CRINE MEMORIAL RACE AMA Featured Event at Budds Creek Mid Atlantic Motocross Association By: BrappMag.com Every year in September the Mid Atlantic Motocross Association (MAMA) in conjunction with John Crine, Traders Racing and a host of other sponsors promote this epic event at the Budds Creek MX Park in Mechanicsville, MD. Some years the event is bigger than others, but I always call it epic because not only does it feature AMA motocross racing, but it brings the racers and their families together to remember a fallen brother, to celebrate a life, to spend time together off the track and to remember what this sport is really all about. Like individuals supporting and uplifting each other while still getting our game on. Although the gate numbers were down this year, the event featured great racing including a Dash for Cash and Pro Am points, plus the Annual Kevin Crine Banquet and Memorial Ride, a great band, some special awards and of course a bunch of rain. After all, what would a motocross event in 2018 be without some rain. It took many to pull this event off and I would be afraid to miss a few if I started to mention any. You can find the sponsors in previous digital issues and online at: www.mamamx.com. Thanks to all who contributed and to all the families that brought side dishes and signed up to race and participated in all the fun, especially the pouring down rain on Sunday. Check the class champs for the day below then head over to the MAMA website for full results. Then hit up www.brappmag.com to see all the images from the weekend. Again, we thank you if you were there and we invite you to return again next year and bring along a friend! GREAT NEWS FOR THE NORTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA ATV INITIATIVE June 6, 2018 Great news for ATV and Side by Side riders in the state of Pa. The following language, directing DCNR to complete the Whiskey Springs-Bloody Skillet Connection and the ATV system connecting Clinton County with the NY Border, was inserted in the Fiscal Code and was signed by the Governor: From HB 1929, Fiscal Code: SECTION 17. SECTIONS 1720-E, 1725-E, 1727-E AND 1730E OF THE ACT ARE AMENDED TO READ: SECTION 1720-E. DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND NATURAL RESOURCES [(RESERVED)]. THE FOLLOWING SHALL APPLY TO APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND NATURAL RESOURCES: 30 (1) IN CONSULTATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, DEVELOP, OPEN AND MAINTAIN AN ATV TRAIL CONNECTING THE WHISKEY SPRINGS ATV TRAIL TO THE BLOOD SKILLET ATV TRAIL BY UTILIZING EXISTING STATE ROADS AND STATE FOREST ROADS BY APRIL 1, 2020. (2) IN CONSULTATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, IMPLEMENT THE FULL NORTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA ATV INITIATIVE AND CREATE A NETWORK OF ATV TRAILS CONNECTING CLINTON COUNTY TO THE NEW YORK STATE BORDER BY UTILIZING EXISTING STATE ROADS AND STATE FOREST ROADS BY APRIL 1, 2024. The CMATVA has been working with the DCNR and Larson Design Group along with all involved to try and make this connector between Bloody Skillet and Whiskey Springs a reality. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and the Governors ability to see the impact that these connectors can make, we are moving forward. This is fantastic news for the off-road riding community. From my understanding this will eventually open a grand total of 1800 miles of legal riding in central and upstate Pa. If we do it the right way this project could link 1000’s more miles of available riding in Pa. Please ride responsibly and support the efforts of all involved because our future can be bright. “Obey God and leave all the consequences to him” – George Washington Stanley In an autobiography I’m reading by Doctor and Pastor Charles F. Stanley he claims this was one of the life lessons that his grandfather Pastor George Washington Stanley taught him that had a profound impact on his life. He says in his book, as a matter of fact, if God told you to run head first into a brick wall to do it, and to know that God would make a hole to fit your head through by the time you arrived. What Faith!! Charles Stanley, if you don’t know him is 86 years old and has been lead pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga since 1971. His “In Touch Ministry” over the years has been broadcast in 107 languages around the globe. Pastor Stanley has had a major impact on local churches and has changed the lives of millions. I wanted to share with you the “TOP FIVE” things that he has done in his life that he recommends that we do with our lives. 1. The most important thing in your life is your relationship with God. 2. Obey God and leave all the consequences to him. 3. God will move heaven and earth to reveal His will to you if you really want to know and do it. 4. God will provide for all your needs. 5. God will protect you. I’m not sure your beliefs but would encourage you to step out on faith a little and give these suggestions a try. 2 Chronicles 16:9 The eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely his.
