Is it really necessary to have a rehearsal for our ceremony? We’d much rather keep it loose and not plan anything too formal.

No matter how loose, laid-back or informal you want your ceremony to be, it’s still necessary to have a run-through sometime before the big day. You and your spouse-to-be, your officiant, your bridal party and any others involved in the ceremony such as your musicians need to know who does what—and when. Otherwise you run the risk of confusion and unnecessary agita on the wedding day. A rehearsal needn’t take long, and once it begins you’ll be relieved that all involved are fully versed in the protocol. INVITATION ETIQUETTE

I was surprised to receive an invitation to a friend’s wedding that was only addressed to me. She knows I’m engaged and has met my partner. Shouldn’t their name be on the invitation as well?

The rule of thumb is to invite the partner of anyone who is married, engaged, living with someone or in a relationship of six months or more. Members of the wedding party should also be invited with a guest. If you happen to be living together then your betrothed’s name should have been written beneath yours on the envelope. If your spouse-to-be has their own place, your friend should have asked for their address and sent them an invitation. Perhaps she just assumes that you will both attend or inadvertently omitted your intended’s name on the envelope. Either way, it wouldn’t hurt to find out. Thank her for the invitation and

ask if your partner is also invited: “I know the invitation is addressed only to me, but I assume my partner is invited as well and just want to confirm this with you.” If she isn’t inviting your spouse-to-be, she’ll need to explain this etiquette “don’t,” but our guess is that your partner is definitely on the guest list. TOAST TIPS

My fiancé’s best man is a great guy, but a bit unpredictable. I’m a little worried about the type of toast he may give. Any advice?

Be open and honest about your expectations right from the start. You and your fiancé should make time to get together with your best man to discuss his speech and your vision for the wedding. Make it clear that you’d like his toast to highlight the positive qualities of your relationship and answer any questions he might have. Creating and writing a good toast takes effort, forethought and practice so invite him to collect funny, sweet or meaningful stories about and your fiancé from your families and friends. That said, as long as his speech is heartfelt and includes a little humor and sentimentality you needn’t worry. BOTTLED UP

My spouse-to-be and I are providing the alcohol for our wedding. For 75 guests, how many bottles of red and white wine and champagne should we purchase?

Good question. Most couples don’t have any idea how many drinks per guest are needed. Here’s a guideline: One bottle of wine or champagne provides about five to six glasses and most guests will probably drink no

more than two glasses per hour. So, depending on the time of day (guests are apt to drink more at an evening wedding) and your crowd (are they party people or a more subdued bunch?), you can figure on about 25 bottles each of champagne, red wine and white wine for 75 guests. You’ll also want to have plenty of soft drinks and water on hand (a liter for every three or four guests) and lots of ice. And ask your reception site manager if there’s a corkage fee—some places charge as much as $10 per bottle just for opening and serving beverages that you provide. Finally, request that both opened and unopened bottles are returned to you after the wedding. FOOD ALERT

TOP EXPERTS LEND A HAND AND OFFER THEIR BEST WEDDING-DAY NAIL ADVICE.

Find Your Shape Oval, square or somewhere in between is always the question at the salon: Naomi Nail Lacquer founder and celebrity manicurist Naomi Gonzalez says to file nails the way your cuticle line is shaped as a rule of thumb. For example, if your nail bed is more round, try an oval tip; for squarer cuticles, go for a rectangular nail.

Cuticle Care Though commonly unwanted, “cuticles exist to protect the area between the skin and nails,” explains Jin Soon Choi of JINsoon, “and fully removing them risks infection.” Fahmida Mumith, manicurist at Haven Spa NYC, adds that the more cuticles are cut, the faster they will grow back. Rather than cut, gently push the nail bed back as needed using a cuticle pusher, and apply oil to maintain hydration.

3. Repair a Break

It’s best to go to a salon should this happen prior to the big day, but not to panic if it happens on the day of: Choi says to file and smooth nail edges with a high-grit emery board, super-glue a fake nail on the tip, let dry for two minutes and apply matching color for a temporary fix.

Don’t Forget the Hands

Founder and creative director of her eponymous nail brand, Deborah Lippmann says just as you would cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your face every night, the same should be done for hands to look and feel their absolute best.

8. Shade Selection

Renowned celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik says, “Sheer ivory, full-coverage white and neutral metallics have really been trending.” If a classic nude is more your style, Bachik suggests matching your skin tone or going one shade lighter for a clean appearance. You may also consider coordinating with your wedding theme or bouquet flowers.

9. Come Prepared

Having a beauty emergency kit is key to avoiding any day-of mishaps. Morgan Taylor lead nail designer Danielle Candido suggests packing a cosmetic bag with “a nail file, instant glue, alcohol wipes, cuticle oil, nail polish remover, cotton pads, nail color and a backup set of press-on nails pre-filed to the right size, shape, and color.”

Make it Last To ensure your manicure goes the distance, celebrity manicurist and creative director of Wild Oleander, Fleury Rose, relies on a quality base and topcoat that’s brushed along each nail edge to seal in color. Valley manicurist Elaine Lee echoes this by suggesting a “UVA/UVB topcoat that prevents yellowing and discoloration for lighter polishes.”

Your nail polish is chipped.

If your nail color becomes damaged, celebrity manicurist Geraldine Holford suggests dipping a Q-tip in acetonefree polish remover and gently smoothing out the scratch. Then paint two thin coats of color over just the chip to avoid an uneven nail texture. Allow the nail to dry and add a topcoat. Feel free to add another thin layer of polish to the remaining nails for consistency.

7. Avoid Biting Chewing nails might be a way to manage the wedding-planning stress, but don’t let it ruin your hands. Gonzalez suggests getting a gel or acrylic manicure in a bright color, like red, as a reminder to stop biting and to allow nails to grow healthy and strong.

Maintenance Matters

From the moment you’re engaged to the anticipated honeymoon, all eyes will be checking out your sparkly new rock, thus underscoring the importance of starting nail care early. Lippmann recommends weekly manicures at least three to six months prior to the big day to ensure nails always look wedding ready. She also advises brides to keep an emery board on hand for DIY touchups between appointments.

e have all heard the classic line, “I’m ready for my close-up.” This is never more important than on your wedding day, when you want to be your most radiant self. It’s key that your makeup brings out your best without overshadowing (sorry, I couldn’t resist!) your natural beauty. Here are some guidelines.

I DO’S FOR MAKEUP • Do book your makeup consultation for a day when you have a fitting or an event. There are usually fees for consultations, so plan for yours to happen when you have something special going on, or when you can test it out with your dress. Get your money’s worth! • Do wear a white or ivory tank top at your run-through to help you visualize how your makeup will look with your gown. Bridal makeup color needs to be fine-tuned to look right against the hue of your dress. • Do bring a camera or smartphone to your makeup runthrough, and take photos from all angles. e asked brides about their wedding-day splurges. Did these must-haves prove to be worth every penny? While some brides have few regrets, others, in hindsight, might make a different choice, pocketing the savings or redirecting their cash elsewhere. Here, their shared wisdom.

THE SPLURGE

A SPECIAL WEDDING LOCATION

A SHUTTLE BUS FOR GUESTS

WORTH EVERY PENNY, says Melissa. “We wanted an outdoor wedding that was different than the traditional banquet hall setting and a site that could accommodate at least 150-200 guests. We found an apple orchard and barn in northwest Indiana, about an hour from downtown Chicago. Though the venue rental price was still about $3,500 and the per-person price was around $85, we actually found savings in the long run since the sales tax was significantly less in Indiana than if we had found a similar venue in the Chicago area. It was something we could have easily overlooked and I’m glad we didn’t.”

WORTH EVERY PENNY, says Amanda. “Our wedding was small—about 50 people—and a majority of those guests had traveled from out of town to Miami, where we were married and lived at the time. So for most of our family and friends, it was a destination wedding. They had spent a lot of money to fly to Miami in February and we wanted it to be a celebration they would enjoy without having to worry about driving themselves from the hotel to the wedding and reception venue and then back to the group hotel. $500 well spent.”

THE SPLURGE A WEDDING PLANNER COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT, says Dan-

ica. “We had a small, intimate destination wedding out of state, and a larger luncheon reception back home with our family and friends. I had no desire to plan a wedding and with all the moving parts we felt it would be a good choice to have someone else plan it for us. While it could’ve been the particular planner we hired, it wasn’t worth the $3,500 we paid, especially given our already super small budget. My husband and I found ourselves undertaking more venue and vendor research than we’d expected and we probably could have done everything that was accomplished without our planner’s help—and at a quicker, more efficient speed, too. To add insult to injury, on our wedding morning we discovered that no one had assembled any of the signage, table numbers, centerpieces or favors—tasks we paid the planner’s team to take care of. Luckily, we were able to outsource these last-minute jobs to friends and family.”

THE SPLURGE A PORTABLE RESTROOM COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT, says

Jessica. “Everyone we spoke to insisted we rent a portable restroom for our backyard wedding and reception—about 80 guests at my parents’ home. We were advised that having so many people at the house could easily overwhelm our septic system, and, in truth, temporary restrooms are a very common sight at the many parties and benefits in our seaside community. I hated the lowest-priced restrooms, which looked like they belonged at a construction site, so we spent $800 for a nicer-looking ‘luxury’ model. The lack of signage and the location (tucked away by the driveway) may be the reason that at the end of the day, the facility stood unused—and fortunately, our plumbing system was totally fine.”

THE SPLURGE A PROFESSIONAL DJ WORTH EVERY PENNY, says Lisa. “My music-obsessed husband wanted to put together his own iPhone playlist and not use a DJ, but I convinced him otherwise, ➺

and I’m glad I glad I did. The DJ kept the energy up the entire time. There were no awkward breaks or moments of ‘What now?’ It totally made the event smooth and fun. While using our own playlist would have saved us close to $1,000, a digital device just can’t fill in gaps or read the crowd. It was just so nice to have someone else make sure everyone was having fun, which then allowed us to focus on chatting with guests.”

THE SPLURGE FLORALS AND DECOR COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT, says Kiki. “We spent an enormous, enormous amount of money on florals and decor— close to $20,000. Honestly, I went nuts to the point that a refrigerated truck was driving flowers to the venue and a crew was removing pictures from the walls of the banquet room, hanging fabric to create curtains, creating a floating floral wall behind the chuppah, floating candles in the pool, glass terrariums on the tabletops, ivy chandeliers and so on to completely transform the space. It was absurdly beautiful, but beyond pricey. If I were to do it again, I’d set a realistic floral budget and stick to it. I’d also try to work with the ambience the venue already offered, rather than attempt to totally transform the space.”

THE SPLURGE VIDEO PACKAGE, INCLUDING A 5-MINUTE HIGHLIGHT VIDEO WORTH EVERY PENNY, says Sarah.

“Not only did we have a still photographer, we hired a videographer who would capture every one of our day’s details and then create a separate 5-minute highlight video in addition to DVDs (total cost: $2,000). This allowed us to show off our celebration on social media and gave us a chance to easily and quickly revisit our special day. Having our highlight movie just a click away is the best.”

THE SPLURGE A WHISKY BAR COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT, says

Angelica: “My husband was obsessed with the idea of a top-shelf, handcrafted

whisky bar for the cocktail hour. The hotel where we held our wedding offered the option on the catering menu so we booked it at a cost of—get ready—$64 per person for one hour! It added a wow factor, but not as many guests indulged as we thought. Looking back, we definitely could have put the almost $6,000 to better use.”

THE SPLURGE CUSTOM LETTERPRESS SAVE-THE-DATE CARDS WORTH EVERY PENNY, says Victoria.

“My wedding planner insisted that they set the tone for the entire event. I hesitated though—after all, the cards just go in the trash. But with about 80 percent of our guests coming from out of town, having such nice save-the-date cards was a bit of a draw to get them excited. Spending $1,000 on those cards was the one thing I thought I’d regret, but ultimately I’m glad I did splurge.”

THE SPLURGE A CANDY AND PASTRY BAR COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT, says

Brianna. “We spent $2,000 on a 12-foot candy and pastry bar stocked with macarons, bite-size brownies, doughnuts and cupcakes, rice krispie treats, customcolored M&Ms, ribbon candy and more, plus another $300 on signage and mini to-go pails and fabric bags. The display was over-the-top gorgeous, and I think people thought it was appealing, but there simply wasn’t enough time for anyone to partake and enjoy all the treats after a full meal, wedding cake and dancing.”

THE SPLURGE DESIGNER HEELS COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT, says

Rachel, “which is why I actually returned them before my wedding date. I fell in love with this $450 pair of shoes and bought them on the spot. I wore them around the house for a few days, but just couldn’t justify spending so much money on them despite how pretty they were—especially knowing that people wouldn’t even see them. I was very happy I returned them and found a pair for about $50 that looked just fine.”

DIY or DI DON’T Many brides tackle DIY wedding projects to offset the budget so they can splurge elsewhere. Here, some recent brides assess their efforts.

DIY YES! Megan crafted the signage and welcome boxes for her wedding and found her DIY efforts proved “therapeutic for the planning stress.” DIY NO! Laura tried to make her own bouquet and wedding favors. But when those tasks proved too time consuming, she opted for ready-made solutions. And though she did make her own centerpieces, she says it wasn’t worth all the fuss. “People remember the free margaritas and the party, not what was on the table,” she says.

DIY YES! Julia tackled a number of DIY projects to save money and personalize the day. She made table runners, centerpieces, favors, corsages, boutonnieres, programs and gifts for the wedding party and both sets of parents, corralling help from friends on various “wedding work days” at her home. It was a significant amount of work, Julia admits, but also what elevated her wedding day into something truly special. “We incorporated so many small touches that reflected us as individuals and as a couple.” DIY NO! For her destination wedding, Tarah handcrafted personalized beach bags packed with practical items like sunscreen, lip balm, ibuprofen and trail mix. Though many of her guests used the items, Tarah confesses it was stressful to create 45 bags and a gigantic effort to transport all of the completed bags down to Mexico.

DIY YES! Alongside her mom, Katie made all of the desserts for the sweets table to provide guests dancing into the night an extra boost of energy. Many of the treats relied on recipes from Katie’s late grandmother, which injected added emotion into the DIY effort. “It was as if my grandmother were there with us,” Katie says. “It was a lot of work, but I’d do it again.” ¢

LADIES FIRST Your maid (or matron)

marriage license as a witness, and offers the most help along the way. It’s her job to coordinate dress fittings, take charge of bridal shower and bachelorette party plans and keep the other bridesmaids in the wedding loop. On the day of the wedding, she will help you dress, arrange your veil and train during the processional and recessional and hold your bouquet during the ceremony. Your bridesmaids help you with tasks like addressing invitations and will help plan the shower and bachelorette party (and contribute to the cost). The maid/matron of honor and all bridesmaids pay for their own attire, as well as transportation and lodging if they travel to the wedding from elsewhere.

HEY, YOU GUYS! Just like the maid of honor, the best man signs your marriage license as a witness. In addition, he brings the wedding rings to the ceremony and holds the officiant’s fee until after the ceremony. Other tasks: coordinating the groomsmen’s formalwear fittings, organizing the bachelor party and delivering the first toast at the reception.

Also, expect that you won’t receive expensive gifts from them—after all, look how much they’re already spending on the big day. • BE A GOOD SPORT! Let them embarrass and tease you a little. They know your limits, so just go

TWEEN SCENE A girl between the ages of 9 and 13 is known as a junior bridesmaid. On the wedding day, she wears a dress that’s more age-appropriate than those the adult bridesmaids wear, in the same color and fabric. Her male counterpart, the junior groomsman or junior usher wears a tuxedo. ell, we’re tempted to say, “why not?” Planning a wedding away from home is attractive to different couples for different reasons. Here are just a few: ❤ You’ve always imagined your nuptials in a certain vacation spot. Maybe you spent an idyllic

vacation earlier in your relationship at a gorgeous Caribbean resort or a laid-back Key West hotel. Or maybe one of you spent summer holidays at a quaint New England inn or a rustic Montana ranch. If it’s easy to graft a picture of yourselves in wedding duds onto those wonderful holiday memories, a destination wedding may be just the ticket for you. ❤ Your families and friends are from here, there and everywhere. Many a couple with far-flung families have thrown up their hands in despair at trying to find a spot that suits everyone. Soon it occurs to them: If everyone’s going to have to travel anyway... Voilà, destination wedding. ❤ You’re not into traditional hotel/reception hall weddings. You’ve been there, done that (you know who you are—you’ve attended a wedding approximately 40 out of the last 52 weekends). All of these kinds of options are leaving you cold. But someplace warm? Ah, now that’s a different story. ❤ You want to make the planning easier (yes, easier). It’s true that

any wedding—whether at home or away—can morph into a logistical nightmare. But because many resorts and hotels have on-site wedding coordinators who do all the legwork for you, a destination wedding can be less stressful to plan. ❤ You want to streamline costs (or even, in some cases, save money). No one can definitively say that a destination wedding costs less than an at-home reception. But no one can say it costs more, either. However, it often turns out to be easier to keep costs in check in a faraway locale. Two reasons: One, you’re likely to have a smaller guest list (the biggest way to save $$ on your wedding is to keep the list lean); and two, your choices are less copious than they might be at home. When you’re planning from afar, it all seems exotic and wonderful, so you’re more likely to be happy with the simple clutch of local flowers the hotel provides, whereas at home you’d be visiting a half-dozen florists and being tempted by a more lavish (and pricey) bouquet.

LET’S GET PRACTICAL Ah, it all sounds soooo delightfully dreamy. But a destination wedding still needs to be planned the same as any wedding. Here, three points you simply must consider:

1. START EARLY You may think you have plenty of time, but when you start investigating your first-choice locale, you may learn it’s a lot pricier than you thought, or that getting there is too complicated for you and your guests. And speaking of guests, they need lots of time, too. A good rule of thumb is to give four months’ notice—minimum—to guests invited to a wedding away.

2. STICK TO YOUR BUDGET

Schedule your time so that you arrive at least two to three days before your guests. You’ll be able to review any final details with your wedding coordinator and have a welcome chance to rest up and recover from any lingering jet lag.

While it’s true that it’s easier to keep costs in check with destination weddings (it’s that all-inclusive thing), it’s still wise to keep an upper limit firmly in mind. That way, if you happen to start tooling around online and see the ever so slightly ritzier resort just a few steps down the beach from the first place you loved, you’ll be far less inclined to spend more.

3. BE COMMUNICATIVE Send out save-the-date cards as soon as you know when and where you’ll be wed. It’s always a good idea to set up a wedding website to keep your guests apprised of details as they unfold. Let them know if you’ve set aside blocks of hotel rooms and how to book them, what to pack, what the itinerary of the event will be and so on. (Caveat: Keeping guests up to date is not the same thing as boring everyone to tears with details about the search for the perfect strappy sandal. Only give them the info they need.) ➺

WHERE TO GO... AND HOW TO BOOK If you already know the resort where you want to wed, then you’re ahead of the game. Simply call them or visit their website and find out if they have a wedding coordinator and what you need to do next. If you’re less sure (or know the overall location—Mexico, Jamaica, Hawaii, the Caribbean—but not the specific spot), work with a travel specialist, or check out these one-stop-shopping destination wedding sites.

Caring for Your Guests

ou are set to have the time of your life. But your guests? Let’s face it: If you hadn’t invited them to your wedding, they may not have chosen to visit this particular spot. So be sure to include warm and welcoming touches (and plenty of fun aside from the wedding) to keep guests happy.

Put together welcome bags or baskets. This is simple to do and well received by travel-weary guests. Offer things like a map and a list of local attractions, an itinerary for wedding-related activities, bottles of water and snacks for the room. And toss in fun stuff—flip-flops for your beach wedding, sunglasses, a fan, a spa gift certificate—if you can swing the cost.

Figure out if anyone will need special help, and take care of it. Does

your grandmother need a wheelchair or your sister a crib for her baby? Arrange these things with the hotel in advance. If there will be children, check with the resort about babysitting services.

❤ Make reserving a no-brainer, and pay for whatever your budget allows (such as breakfasts or a group activity). Generally accepted etiquette says that guests, including the bridal party, pay for lodgings, but do find out if your hotel offers a discount for groups (many do). Arrange a welcome cocktail party or light supper, as well as breakfast or brunch the day after the wedding.

A SECOND RECEPTION? nevitably, there will be a group of people at home—work friends, parents’ friends, relatives who couldn’t manage the trip— who missed out on the fun. If you can,

WHEN ANNIE POE AND LEMUEL ANAEJIONU BEGAN PLANNING THEIR NUPTIALS, “we didn’t intend to have a theme, but ended up with something of a ‘cat theme’ to our wedding, which we found hilarious since we always joke about which one of us is the crazier ‘cat lady’— even though we also have a dog,” Annie tells us. Along with cat place-card holders, “we’re getting meowied” signage, the bride’s Gucci panther heels and the groom’s Gucci tiger cufflinks, the dress code speciﬁed cocktail attire or cultural formalwear—Lem is part Nigerian and Annie is from Taipai, Taiwan—resulting in a celebration rich with visual delights. “We danced all night with friends and family,” Annie says, adding it was “blissful happiness through and through with lots and lots of laughter, love and booty shaking!” Venue Addison Grove, in Austin, TX was chosen for its many indoor/ outdoor options including stunning natural backdrops and a soaring barn.

“IN 2020, AS THE WORLD WAS SEEMINGLY FALLING APART,” Cassie and Erin Murphy hopped into a vintage convertible and drove to the chapel. Well, it wasn’t exactly a church, but the couple did make it legal in an intimate ceremony that paid homage to the land at Camp Wandawega in Wisconsin, a nostalgic lakeside property that they’ll likely return to with friends and family. “We wanted to draw on the comforts of nostalgia and our love for nature, history and water. Erin is a hobby carpenter who sharpened her skills restoring old colonials in New England and Cassie is a photographer, so we wanted to marry our love of historical preservation with impeccable curation and beauty that honors the legacy of camp,” they say. “There is something hopeful about getting married in a place that has stood unshakeable for so many years,” they explain. “It feels like firm ground for the foundation of our marriage.”

“It was important to us to honor the land we were on, which belongs to the Kickapoo Tribe. We had our best friend and officiant read a poem to honor the land.”

Wandawega is located about 40 miles from Milwaukee, a city once known for its beer production that has recently seen an impressive arts and food scene take hold. Among the new marquee sites is the Milwaukee Art Museum, which was designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. Closer to the camp, throwback institutions relay the area’s storied arts history. Favorites of the couple include Ten Chimneys, an old estate owned by Broadway stars that serves as an arts center, Old World Wisconsin, a collection of folk structures and gardens, and Elkhorn Flea Market, “where (camp owner) Tereasa found many gems.”

Marriage licenses, which are issued by the County Clerks, are required in Wisconsin. The fee is $110-$120, depending on location. Couples must apply in person and provide a Social Security number, certified birth certificate, along with the names of each parent. If applicable, a divorce decree, certificate of annulment or death certificate must also be presented. There is a five-day waiting period; licenses are valid for 30 days.

PERHAPS WITH THE NOTABLE exception of Pam and Jim and the Obamas, the happily ever-afters of love stories don’t start with the office Christmas party. But for Samantha née DeTore Vuksanic and Rob Vuksanic, that’s exactly where their once-upon-a-time began in 2016. Rob, an engineer at Cashman, a construction and energy firm, won a 10-day escape to the idyllic Kilkea Castle, a 180-acre expanse framed by woodlands and a golf course with 140 accommodations spread across the stone castle, carriage houses and lodges. Their experience as guests of the 12th century retreat was so memorable that they decided to host their friends and family for a wedding once they became engaged in 2019. They were wowed not only by the setting and the sense of living history, but also the cuisine. “We remembered from our trip that their restaurant had some of the best food we ever had,” says Rob “We didn’t realize when the food could be,” adds Samantha, who also always dreamed of being married in a castle.

In a ring warming, the wedding bands are passed to guests who offer prayer and good wishes.

In addition to hosting golf outings, tours to neighboring historical sites and a falconry experience for guests, Samantha and Rob showcased the traditions of Irish weddings during their vows. “We wanted our ceremony to be more than just a couple of I dos and some legal language,” they explain. In addition to the lighting of a unity candle with their parents, and a ring warming with 15 guests, the couple performed a handfasting ritual. The Celtic tradition, during which the bride and groom cross their hands over each other and clasp before their wrists are wrapped with ribbons by the celebrant, is said to be the origin of the term “tying the knot.”

Sure Shot—there’s a “little secret area behind the castle’s rose garden, along the creek, that’s ideal for pictures.” The couple also loved getting photos in the lattice tunnel area, replete with vines and surrounded by greenery.

One of Ireland’s most spectacular attractions are the Cliffs of Moher, towering rock outcroppings that stand on the island’s southwestern coast. Stretching nearly eight miles along the shore, the UNESCO site is also a favorite destination for Rob and Samantha. “Hands down, walking up towards the cliffs and leaning out to get an understanding of their epic height is a must for every visitor to Ireland,” they suggest. True to their word, the bride and groom arranged a tour of cliffs for their wedding guests. ➺

here. Couples must apply for permission to marry and meet with the Registrar in the county in which they intend to wed five days before the ceremony. Documents such as passports, notarized birth certificates, a marriage application, and, if applicable, death certificates or annulment certificates, along with a fee must be submitted at least three months prior to the intended date. The couple may also be asked to submit the following: the intended date of marriage, the type of ceremony, the names and birth dates of the witnesses and details of the proposed officiant and venue.

Sure, its gorgeous setting was a major selling point for the couple to host their wedding at Kilkea, but the cuisine held equal appeal to Rob and Samantha. “We incorporated a blend of typical Irish dishes and some more accessible cuisine,” they say. “All of the food was unbelievable!” The five-course menu included a goat-cheese-and-baby spinach starter, butternut squash soup, filet of beef and seared halibut. For dessert, guests savored cheesecake and a decadent chocolate cake.
