ENGAGEMENT SHOOT OUTFIT INSPIRATION

WHAT TO WEAR FOR AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION Let’s be honest: it can be a struggle to figure out what to wear on an average day. For your engagement session, it’s totally understandable to be overwhelmed by the choices. There are so many options to decide from! We’re here to tell you: you’re FINE. There are plenty of options on how to dress for your engagement session. Let’s figure out what works best for you. Here’s our engagement session style guide and outfit inspiration book.

LET’S GO!

DECIDE IF YOU’RE GOING SEMI-FORMAL OR CASUAL Decide with your partner if you’re going to go semiformal or keep it casual. Make sure you coordinate before you head out to your engagement session! Both looks work great for engagement photos. It all comes down to what you want as a couple. Some couples prefer to dress in a semi-formal look, since photo shoots with your partner don’t happen often. Your engagement shoot can be great to make an occasion of. Turn it into a date night after! Plus, loved ones often like to keep their children’s engagement photos on their desk or in their home, especially if they’re a little more formal. Casual looks for engagement photos are also awesome! If you’re a laid back couple who just wants to be themselves, keep it casual. It’s your call on how you want to dress for your photos. If you don’t typically like to dress up, don’t force yourself to do it just because of what you THINK your photos should be. Your engagement session is as special and unique as your love for each other.

CONSIDER YOUR WEDDING COLOR PALETTE Some couples consider their engagement photography outfits based on their wedding color palette. If they’re using the photos for save-the-dates or their wedding website, this is a great idea to make all of the design feel cohesive. Don’t put pressure on yourself if you can’t find the right look in your wedding color palette.

IRON & LINT ROLL If you have some wrinkles in your clothes, try to iron ahead of the shoot. Photographers don’t typically love to do a lot of retouching on clothing. Take a few minutes to steam or iron, and save your photographers a few hours hunched over a computer screen! Same goes for lint rolling–– just a quick roll goes a very long way!

COMFORT IS KEY There’s no sense in getting photos taken if you’re not feeling comfortable! Wear something you’re comfortable and happy to wear. Some people go all-out and buy a new outfit for their engagement photos, and that makes them feel good and happy. Others choose outfits they wear regularly and are feeling good and comfortable in. If it makes you feel good, that’s the most important part!

TIPS & TRICKS BACKUP SHOES

If you plan to wear heels for your engagement session, carry them in a bag. It will definitely help if there are a couple of different locations. They will definitely look amazing during the shoot, but give your feet a rest between shots to stay comfortable for the photos.

FRESH HAIRCUT

If you can, try to get a fresh haircut before your engagement session. It will have you feeling shiny and new for your photos!

GET YOUR NAILS DONE

Don’t forget to get your nails done! There’s going to be a lot of emphasis over the coming months on your hands while people check out that ring. Make sure your nails are polished!

SHAVE & TIDY UP

Fellas, a fresh shave will feel great and look great for your engagement photos. Let’s try to clean up the scruff or five o’clock shadow... unless that’s how you’re most comfortable!

ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS 101 We use engagement sessions to get to know our couples better. They are always recommended and encouraged by us, which is why we offer them as a complimentary service in our wedding packages. Engagement sessions tend to loosen couples up in front of the camera. We also take the time to teach our couples how to pose during this session and ensure that everyone is comfortable.
