Supporting your every step

Here are just some of the ways we help you with your learning...

The Library

Our Library offers around 250,000 books and reference materials. The Library is usually open 24/7 during termtime, and has four floors of study facilities; including quiet and silent areas, as well as bookable study rooms. Online, you’ll find an extensive e-library with thousands of eBooks and eJournals and over a hundred subject specific databases – supported by a 24/7 web chat helpdesk and online guides. Our Academic Liaison Librarians are on hand to help too. They run our LibSmart programme which is designed to help you get the most out of these resources, providing training on researching, referencing and avoiding plagiarism. brunel.ac.uk/library

Academic Skills Service (ASK)

The ASK team provides a welcoming and inclusive environment, offering guidance in writing and learning, as well as maths and statistics. They’ll help you to develop your academic and research skills, and how to study more effectively and independently, for life-long learning. brunel.ac.uk/ask

HeadStart

HeadStart helps students from under-represented groups to make the transition into studying in higher education. If eligible, we’ll introduce you to the academic skills required to succeed at university, give you a sense of what is expected of you and familiarise you with the support services available. brunel.ac.uk/headstart

Academic English

If English isn’t your first language, Brunel Language Centre offers additional support through individual academic consultations, group classes and workshops. Areas covered include academic writing (e.g. technical reports, critiques, proposals and dissertations), seminar skills, presentations, reading and listening skills, pronunciation and grammar. brunel.ac.uk/language-centre

Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL)

PAL supports new students to develop the independent study skills required for a successful university life. Sessions are led by second or third year students who have experience of your course. They’re designed to give you greater confidence with your academic studies, through creative and fun activities. They also give you an opportunity to discuss ideas, broaden your knowledge, build friendships and ask questions about university life. brunel.ac.uk/PAL

Your personal tutor

You’ll be assigned a personal tutor to support your academic and personal development. They’ll be in regular contact with you to discuss your academic progress or any other support you may need, in confidence.
