Psychology

Psychology is an exciting discipline, with areas of research that provide breakthrough knowledge about the inner workings of the world’s most complex machine – the human brain. You’ll benefit from truly up-to-date learning, as you’re taught by experts actively engaged in the study of the human mind and behaviour.

You’ll analyse all aspects of the human experience – from brain functioning, memory and language, to emotions, personality and social behaviour. You’ll learn the relevance of psychology to understanding behaviour in diverse settings, from the research lab to mental health care, giving you a wide range of transferable skills.

Our facilities include a dedicated MRI scanner, an EEG (electroencephalography) lab, and equipment for portable near-infrared spectroscopy, and transcranial magnetic stimulation. We also have psychophysics, eye tracking and high-quality IT resources.

Careers and your future

You’ll gain the skills and experience to create a stand-out CV. You can add to this by undertaking either two six-month work placements, or a one-year placement.

Our students have worked in clinical psychology at St George’s Hospital, the Institute of Psychiatry, and in community programmes for vulnerable groups, such as Hillingdon and Ealing Victim Support. Some have also worked on research in psychology at medical schools across London.

You’ll be equipped with valuable skills that are attractive to employers. Data analysis, critical thinking, problemsolving, team-building and effective communication are just a few examples of the employability skills you’ll gain on your psychology degree.

Mariam Psychology BSc

My two placements were at the International School of London to work with students who have learning disabilities and a victim support group. The fact that these placements were so different allowed me to get a range of experience and helped me understand what type of work I enjoy the most.
