Anthropologists want to know how people across the globe experience and understand the world around them. They answer their research questions by engaging in long-term immersive fieldwork with the societies and communities they study. Brunel Anthropology offers a unique programme that gives you the opportunity to carry out your own research or work placement as part of your degree. The optional placement degree gives you the opportunity to travel, gain work experience and conduct research on a topic of your choice. Teaching is research-led, drawing on your lecturers’ wide-ranging expertise. You’ll engage with questions on urgent issues including global health, inequality, migration and conflict. You’ll also examine topics such as food, emotion, ritual, youth culture, myth and the future. We’re proud of our Anthropology Society, which gives you the chance to network with fellow students and extend your learning experience through talks, trips and social activities.

A Brunel Anthropology degree combines academic theory with hands-on practical experience. You’ll develop knowledge and skills sought after by local and international organisations.

Our Professional Development Centre, a dedicated team of Career Consultants who work with you throughout your time at Brunel, will support you in finding the right career.

Our graduates have applied the skills and knowledge acquired during their degrees in a huge variety of careers, including non-governmental organisations and charities – such as UNICEF, Save the Children and Oxfam, TV and broadcasting, documentary film-making, journalism, the civil service, advertising, business, marketing, local and national government, education and the legal sector.

Studying anthropology is unlike studying any other course. It’s a discipline that changes you as a person – for the better. For me, anthropology changed the way I see the world: I not only question everything around me, but I also accept and understand aspects of human life that I would have otherwise pretentiously judged.
