Electronic and Electrical Engineering

From mobile phones and computers, to highly sophisticated diagnostic equipment used in hospitals and state-of-the-art fibre optic communications systems, electronic equipment and products are a vital part of our daily lives. Power electronics and drives, radar and satellite navigation, renewable energy systems and high-performance computing systems are advancing at a fast pace. Electronic and microelectronic embedded systems are at the core of these developments and there’s a rapidly growing demand for well qualified scientists and engineers.

Our Electronic and Electrical Engineering programmes provide students with a wide range of fundamental and transferable skills. Our courses are industry-led and focus on important themes relevant to electronics, electric vehicle technology, communication systems, smart grids, embedded real-time systems and the ‘Internet of Things’.

You’ll develop the analytical and innovative skills to play a key role in the rapidly expanding technological industries. We have excellent laboratory facilities in analogue and digital electronics, computer systems and networks, digital signal processing, communications, sensors, electrical power systems and control. You’ll also have access to the most current industry-standard software available.

Careers and your future

Industrial placements, although not compulsory, are integral to our undergraduate courses. They bring your studies to life, giving you excellent work experience and contacts.

Our close proximity to many of the UK’s biggest electronics and telecommunications employers –in London and along the M4 corridor – means our placement network is second to none.

Through our Professional Development Centre, we have placed our students at high-profile companies including ARM, BMW, IBM, Centrica, Intel, Mercedes, Microsoft, Motorola, National Grid, Siemens, SSE, 3M and UK Power Networks.
