Global Challenges

Global Challenges is a 2022 Green Gown Awards winning course that looks at how and why the world around us is changing. It encourages new ways of thinking to tackle the pressing issues that face us all. We’ve drawn on the expertise of our academics from across Brunel, to give you an understanding of the scientific, social, political and economic factors that impact on decision making in today’s world.

Your course at Brunel will challenge you to think differently about humanity’s relationship with the contemporary world. You’ll have the chance to choose one of four specially curated pathways alongside the ‘core spine’ of the degree, so your learning experience will be truly unique.

You’ll work across the science, social science and humanities disciplines, whilst gaining an international context to everything you learn. This will give you exposure and knowledge of the multiple challenges society faces, locally and globally. You’ll have the opportunity to take part in a short summer internship after your first year, as a means of broadening your skills base and horizons.

Careers and your future

Global Challenges is both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science. Having developed skills in scientific, social scientific and humanities fields, you’ll be able to confidently engage with a range of perspectives, evidence bases and stakeholders. Placements are available, allowing you to practically apply what you’ve learnt in a range of industry contexts.

After graduation, you’ll be able to actively contribute and lead the necessary change needed to respond to emerging issues. You’ll be able to innovate and improve processes in a dynamic manner, and actively contribute to improving outcomes for employers, or as an employer yourself.

You’ll be equipped for roles in a number of industries including, business, media and communications, systems design and consulting, international development, healthcare, government and diplomatic service.
