Nursing

Studying Nursing at Brunel will make you a proactive, creative and dynamic practitioner in this challenging yet rewarding field. You’ll gain the essential skills needed to start or develop a career in nursing. Brunel will empower you with the knowledge to become a confident practitioner, who can administer effective care and treatments to your patients. Your degree will develop you into an innovative practitioner in the promotion of health, and the prevention of ill health, for individuals, groups and communities. We offer three undergraduate degrees in either adult, child health or mental health nursing*, that will provide you with the specialist skills, knowledge and confidence to begin your nursing career. As a nursing student, you could also be eligible for a non-repayable bursary of at least £5,000 per academic year – please see the NHS Learning Support Fund for more information.

You’ll learn through an equal balance of theory and practice. You’ll gain professional experience in a variety of healthcare settings, where you will work closely with other healthcare professionals, service users and their families.

If you’re already a qualified nurse, with a current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) nurse or midwife registration in the UK, our Specialist Community Public Health Nursing BSc can help you take your career to the next level. There are three specialist pathways for you to choose from: health visiting, occupational health nursing and school nursing.

Careers and your future

NMC registration, with your degree, enables you to practise as a registered nurse in the UK, so you’ll be entering a highly respected profession with excellent employment prospects.

If you already have initial nurse or midwife registration, you’ll improve your opportunities of progressing into a leadership or management role after graduating from our specialist community public health nursing course.

Nursing BSc

My nursing course at Brunel has shown me that while care is the foundation, there’s much more to nursing. I’ve learned that nursing is also about communication, spreading knowledge, autonomous practice and providing the best care I can at all times.

*These courses will be open to Home applicants only for 2024 entry.
