The human body is amazing, but when things go wrong, either mentally or physically, people often aren’t able to do activities that matter to them. What are the barriers to activity? Are there ways to overcome these barriers?

Study Occupational Therapy at Brunel and you’ll learn the practical and enquiry skills to understand and improve the lives of your patients, physically, emotionally, socially and psychologically. You’ll benefit from 28 weeks of practice placements, as well as access to purpose-built occupational therapy facilities which mirror real clinical environments. These include our specialist kitchen, arts room and gym. In our `Keep Living Suite’, you’ll learn about the use of equipment and adaptable living environments. You’ll learn the latest developments in occupational therapy and be better able to think, discuss and engage critically using the latest practices.

Careers and your future

After graduating, you’ll be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council to start practising as an occupational therapist in the UK.

You could work in areas such as physical rehabilitation and mental health settings, as well as with children in schools or clinics and with people with learning disabilities. These could be hospital based or as part of a community reablement team.

As well as opportunities to work in the health and social care sector, there’s also demand for occupational therapists in the voluntary sector, private practice, schools and industry. Some graduates go on to become case managers, expert witnesses, work with engineers to design equipment or start up their own business or private practice.

Allison Occupational Therapy BSc

I really enjoyed the anatomy and physiology aspects of my course. I’ve been on two community placements which showed me how much occupational therapy is needed and used to help various sections of the community. I finished my placements with a greater confidence in my abilities as an occupational therapist.
