EDITORIAL Hervé Dez “Photography is an important means by which our society perceives the other and sees itself, therefore our responsibility and vigilance are incurred. Reporter-photographer, we hope that our work is a precise starting point for thinking he belongs to.”

Introducing“Famille en France”, a Viva agency work, these text asked the burning question of the responsibility of photographers in the transmission to the public.

Nowdays, the question of transmission is nevertheless outstanding .

Therefore, we can specifically ask the question of visual representation of minorities.

Celebrating? Denouncing? Document?

For the visual representation of a minority it’s hard to escape a contradictory vision between a diverse society and its fragmentation into groups designated as such.

This bsides # 06, shows photographs of a minority, the Roma, which were exhibted at the location shooting.

Without evading the contradictions, the use of the medium by photographers and participants imposed to establish a representation of self and others into a closer relationship with the society.

I’M THE OTHERS is a serie of photographs taken by teenagers and children during a workshop led by Pablo Fernandez and Hervé Dez in collaboration with the library and schools of Murska Sobota. PICTURE ME was made in the streets of Surdulica in Serbia, in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the inhabitants of the city. KIDS CAUGHT IN THE PROCESS was made by Marija Jankovič and Dalibor Danilović in collaboration with R-point NGO in Belgrad which is working with the kids of the evicted family from the EU.

« La photographie est un des moyens importants par lesquels notre société perçoit les autres et se conçoit ellemême, dès lors notre responsabilité et notre vigilance sont engagées. Reporter-photographes, nous souhaitons que notre travail soit un point de départ précis à une réflexion qu’il appartient de faire ».

Introduction à « Famille en France » de l’agence Viva, ce texte de 1973 posait avec acuité la question de la responsabilité des photographes dans la transmission au public.

Dans le climat actuel, on peut plus précisément se poser la question de la représentation visuelle des minorités.

Célébrer ? Dénoncer ? Documenter ?

La représentation visuelle d’une minorité échappe difficilement à un regard contradictoire entre une société diversifiée et sa fragmentation en groupes désignés comme tels.

Ce # 06 de bsides, montre des photographies d’une minorité, les Roms, qui se sont exposées sur le lieu même des prises de vue. Sans esquiver les contradictions, cette utilisation du médium par les photographes et les participants leur a imposé d’établir une représentation des autres et de soi dans un rapport plus étroit avec la société.

I’M THE OTHERS a été réalisé par des adolescents et des enfants au cours d’un atelier dirigés par Pablo Fernandez et Hervé Dez dans la ville slovène de Murska Sobota en collaboration avec la médiathèque et les écoles. PICTURE ME est extrait des portraits réalisés dans les rues de Surdulica en Serbie, avec la collaboration du centre culturel des habitants de la ville. Enfin KIDS CAUGHT IN THE PROCESS a été réalisé par Marija Janković et Dalibor Danilović avec la collaboration de l’association R-point, dans un atelier de musique pour les enfants des familles expulsées des pays de l’Union Européenne.
