HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

BULLETIN EDITOR

MARIAE JULIA (MJ) ROBIS H ello key clubbers!

It's January finally! Done with college apps, talent show, and other things I was extremely stressed and worried about. December, although hectic, was spent with family and friends which made me grateful. I ate a lot so now I'm trying to go back to my exercise routine and, hopefully, I get back on track in a few weeks. j Now, I'm anticipating for LTC this march! The reason I can't stop talking about LTC is because it was the best experience I've had in Key Club as it taught me how to become a Bulletin Editor as well as made me passionate about Key Club! Also, it had AWESOME food! Hope you all had a great holiday! See you soon at events and LTC!

ey Key Clubbers! I hope you guys enjoyed the plethora of events we had over the Holiday Season. December is truly my favorite time to volunteer because of all the Christmas-themed events, and the smiles of volunteers you meet at events just warm my soul! Also, Belated Happy New Years everyone! I hope 2019 will be a year for you guys to develop into your best selves. And while you are at it, make sure to put aside time for volunteering, for it certainly will aid you in your path in becoming more empathetic and confident people Although the Gingerbread workshop has been my favorite Key Club event(yay free candy!), I will have to say this year’s Crazy Rich Asian Movie Fundraiser has taken its spot. Watching the hilarious movie, enjoying freshly popped popcorn, and laughing with fellow Key Clubbers at the shirtless scene really relaxed me during the stressful holiday season, and I cannot wait to host another one in the following months(wait for it!). It was great to expand our audience by collaborating with H.O.P.E. Club and National Honors Society for the event as well. A big shout out to them for informing their members and helping us in the planning process! Also, I hope all of you are enjoying your time in committees and gaining a deeper involvement in Key Club. I joined the Events Committee in my Sophomore year, and it was honestly one of the best decision I made in my high school career! It taught me the ins and outs of Key Clubs and encourage me to be an active member. Seeing how dedicated the fellow committee members and officers are to the club encouraged me to attend more events and host events of my own. I found the skills I learned from the job, such as drafting emails, creating spreadsheets, and communicating in a timely manner, to be helpful when doing school projects and applying for internships. If I could go back in time, I would tell my freshman self to join a committee as well, for there are so many Key Club committees that will help you develop valuable skills in different fields. In the following months, I look forward to working more closely with the Fundraising Committee to raise money for other Key Club charities. We have done so much progress this service year by volunteering and raising awareness through the Themes of the Months, and now it is time to support the charities through donations! Please support all the exciting fundraisers we will be hosting in the following months :).

VICE PRESIDENT'S REMARKS

AYAN RAHMAN H ello Key Clubbers,

Wow, it's really already January. I seriously cannot believe how far we've come since last March. It feels like just yesterday that I was the one making these newsletters. It's been a great ride so far. We've hosted two themes of the month since the last newsletter, "Helping the Homeless" for November and "Giving Back to the Kids" in December. We've participated in the Coalition for the Homeless Drive, hosted the holiday movie fundraiser, and had our holiday party. We raised almost $800 for these events to support these contemporary issues! We've also held the ongoing Pennies for Patients fundraiser and hosted a multitude of events surrounding these causes. Watching you guys taking initiative and participating in all these activities makes me so proud and keeps the entire Executive Board going with drive and passion to deliver even more opportunities for you all. For that I thank you. In other news and future updates, our committees have officially begun! I was so excited to see the four groups of kids all excited and got to personally lead the fundraising committee with Aby and Bonnie. I can't wait to see where you all go, I will be there every step of the way of course. Beyond committees we also have a bunch of events coming up! We have our annual ice skating fundraiser to be held at the Lakeside Center at Prospect Park, the Chipotle Fundraiser, pins to be sold, and Pennies for Patients. I hope to see all of you at each event. With the remaining time left in the service year, I just want to say once again how very proud I am to be serving as your Vice President and to have witnessed the level of growth and amount of leadership in our membership. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us. Until then, happy key clubbing! Yours in Care and Service, Ayan Rahman Key Club Vice President

TURKEY TROT TROT TURKEY

The Turkey Trot event was really fun! It was cool because we got to wear the vest and there were a lot of of members! It was cool to see many people running in a costume such as a turkey. Everyone overall was admirable for running in cold weather and having fun. Seeing many people from around the globe come together to run motivated me to have fun as well. ANONYMOUS

Š ALVIN JIANG

While volunteering at the Village Temple with my friends, I felt that I did something nice for the community and was happy about myself. This was my first community service and even though this is my first, I enjoyed helping preparing the meals for the homeless. I was able to peel potatoes and cut them into pieces while I was there. When I looked around while doing my job, I realized how many other people there were from schools and also, just people willingly to help contribute to the community. For example, I saw a family come early in the morning to help. There were three kids with their parents and they helped set the crackers on the plates. I had a great time and experience at the Village Temple. ALVIN JIANG

FALL RALLY @

17

The experience was great! I've been to LTC and DTC but Fall Rally still offered a refreshing feel in the sense of workshops. It was fun as I met new members from different schools and I got to see so much potential in them. I also loved the speaker very much as she shared her amazing story while keeping us attentive through her energy. Moreover, it was a nice ending for members to share what they're thankful for in the auditorium as it gave everyone a sense of community. MARIAE JULIA ROBIS

Š ARTUR BUINSKI

ARTUR BUINSKI One of the most interesting parts of the day was that we actually went with the lady to feed the cats. We saw all the homeless cats that she feeds every day by herself. In general, the lady was a very fun and energetic person and you could tell that she loves what she does. As you can see, this event was very interesting because of the time everyone spent together working to feed the homeless cats. This was very fun and I hope I can go again this year or even next year as well.

This event was very interesting. I got the opportunity to meet many new people like the lady who feeds the cats and also all the other BTHS students. I also met some of my classmates that I have DDP( Design and Drafting for Production) with. In addition, I met a huge amount of cats. The lady told us that she had 30 cats living in her house. To me that is pretty insane to think about. Furthermore, the lady told us that everyday she goes to feed the homeless cats around the neighborhood.

WINTER WONDERLAND WONDERLAND H.O.P.E. X KEY CLUB

The Key Club X H.O.P.E. Club Winter Wonderland Holiday Party is the biggest event Brooklyn Tech Key Club has hosted this year, so extensive planning went into every aspect of the event. The two executive boards looked into everything from the food to the performances to the prizes, so everything went smoothly on the day of the event. We did our best to bring out the holiday spirits of our members by decorating the cafeteria with giant paper snowflakes, Christmas trees, balloons, and confetti. For the menu, we decided on pizza, popeyes, marble brownies, chips, and all

sorts of drinks. We invited Breakdancing Club, Julia, Olivia, and Alex Hwang, who all gave amazing performances. I think the best part of the event(other than the food :)) was the balloon contest where members competed to keep the balloons afloat to win a ten dollar gift card. The party was a great way to celebrate the Holiday Season with Key Club and H.O.P.E. members, and everyone was able to relieve their stress from all their exams. Overall, the event was a success and I wish I can attend it again! APRIL SU

GINGERBREAD GINGERBREAD HOUSE HOUSE DECORATING DECORATING WORKSHOP WORKSHOP

The workshop was an awesome experience as I volunteered with my friends and I've never really made a gingerbread house before. It was cool that lots of parents and kids particpated in this event and the organizers were very nice as well. We as volunteers not just helped the kids make their gingerbread house but also got to eat the candies which made it even more fun! ANONYMOUS

I watched the first Wreck it Ralph and so I was excited when I heard that Midwood was doing a movie fundraiser for the second movie. The plot was easy to understand as I've already seen the first. It was a fun watch because the story didn't just revolve inside the arcade but beyond. It discusses some very important activities we do today. I loved the movie and am very hyped for the future movie fundraisers. MARIAE JULIA ROBIS

FRIDAY VOLUNTEER CORPS

31

As for my experience helping clean up Fort Green Park, I enjoyed it a lot. I was raking up leaves and putting them in trash bags with my teammates. It was satisfying in a weird way because there were so many dead leaves in the ground that we filled up several trash bags. You could see the contrast of color between green and gray from the areas that was raked and the areas that weren't. I got to meet a lot of new people and it felt good to cooperate together. DIVISIONAL NEWS

I hope you all enjoyed the month of November and December, the season of giving right after the season of being thankful and appreciated! I spent a lot of time reminiscing in my own memories and loving the past I had and whom I surround myself with and focusing on my own growth that would better out the rest of the things I have influence over. I don't have that many months left to spend as your precious Lieutenant Governor, and pretty soon we will be picking out my successor who will spend the last few months with me in training to be better than whatever I could be. Let's make these next few months our legacy and leave with a blast! From Yours in Care and Service, Flora Tsui
