OnAugust19,IattendedtheDecodenDIYFundraiserthatwasheldin CentralPark.MembersgatheredatSheepMeadowoverlookingthe skyscraperstodecoratetheiraccessories.Wewereabletochooseto decorateamirror,clawclip,orablankacrylickeychain.Therewasalarge assortmentofcutedecodencream,charmsandbeadstochoosefrom sparkingcreativity.Iendedupchoosingtodecorateanacrylickeychainin whichIpipedthekeychaintobelikeacakeborderanddecoratedthe centerwithmanycharmslikecaketoppings.Ourmemberswereableto makereallycutemirrorsandclawclipsaswellwithuniquecolor combinationsincludingourD9LTGwhomadeadivision9clawclip. Ultimately,thiswasaverysuccessfulfundraiser.

Olivia Mohindra Little EssentialsToday,August24th,IvolunteeredataplacecalledLittleEssentials!The warehousewasintheBrooklynNavyYard,andIwentwithoneofmyfriends, who’salsonamedOlivia.Atlittleessentials,theirgoalistoprovideessential productstofamiliesinneed.Thisincludesthingslikediapers,clothes,and strollers.Today,wewereworkingwiththingslikestrollers,carseats,and cribs.Thesewereallitemsthatweredonatedtolittleessentials.Because theyweredonated,wehadtocheckthequalityoftheitemsandcleanthemif theywereworking.Wemakesurethatthereweren’tanybigstains,thatseat beltbuckleswereworking,thatnopartswerebroken,andotherthingsalong thoselines.Today,Ilearnedthatcarseatsexpire.It’sbecausetheyhaveto keepuptodatewithsafetyregulations,andthatwasanotherfactorwehad tokeepinmindwhilequalitychecking.Afterwecheckedthattheitemswere ingoodquality,wecleanedthemoffbywipingthemdown.Personally,Ihada lotoffunatthisevent,especiallysinceweweredoingsomethingwhereI couldtalktomyfriendswhilevolunteering,andIwoulddefinitelyvolunteer hereagain!

OnAugust24thIparticipatedintheLittleEssentialsVolunteerEvent. Unfortunately,thedaystartedoffpoorlywithheavyrain.What'sworseisthe factthatonceIjoinedwiththeprojectcaptainandtheothervolunteerswe becamecompletelylost.Itwasquiteliterallyanadventuretofindthe building.Luckily,westillmadeitontimeandimmediatelygotstarted.Little Essentialsprovideduswithgloves,Cloroxwipes,andpapertowels.Forthat dayinparticularwewereassignedtoaidwithcleaningandinspecting strollers,carriages,andbabyseats.Weevengottoworkinpairsbecauseour groupwasrelativelysmallandconsistedofonly4peoplewegottowork togetherasaunitandmorecohesively.However,asweinspectedwesaw manyofdonateditemswerehighlydamagedorunsafeandhadtobethrown away.Atleast,attheendoftheeventwehadcleanedandinspected8items forsafety,thatwouldeventuallybeshippedoutbyLittleEssentials tofamiliesinneedinlocalshelters,hospitals,andschools.

OIattendedtheUpOneClawMachineFundraiseronAugust27th.Forme, thecommutewasquitelongduetothefactthatitwasinFlushing.Thiswas obviouslytrueforseveralofourKeyClubmembersincludingtheboard members.Asaresult,thefundraiserstartedslightlylatebutatleastdueto thenatureofthefundraiserpunctualitywasnotanissueduetothefactthat thevoucherscouldbesoldatanytimeandanyamountwaspurchasable. Regardingtheclawmachines,meandmybestfriendspent60dollarsin total.Thepricesattheplacewasreasonableandlastedaroundanhour.The employeesweresupernicetooandwerewillingtorearrangetheclaw machinelayouts,changetherewardcolor,andevengiveustipsandtricks. Lastly,UpOneisalsoinafoodcourtsoitwaseasytofindtonsofplacesfor lunchanddinnerrightafterthefundraiser.Personally,Iwenttograbacorn dogrightnexttotheclawmachineplaceandendedoffthedaywith4 plushieswon.

Come Volunteer at the Brooklyn Book Bodega! We believe every child in Brooklyn deserves to own the books that they want to read and enjoy. Volunteers 14+ will help with onsite book sorting and stamping. Volunteers will include sorting and stamping books. First fill out their onsite volunteer form before our form, and be sure to select the September 5th 10am-1pm shift.

Division 9 is helping the Ronald McDonald House Charities raise funds to provide services for families and children by collecting pop tabs! From August 15 to October 15, all clubs in our Division are competing to collect the most pop tabs to win a bag of candy and a special feature in the October Issue of The Wave!

The governor has chosen to support Room to Read for this year's governor's project. Room to Read is a non-profit organization that aims to end illiteracy and gender inequality.

The New York District has voted to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for this year's District Project. St. Jude's goal is to provide free treatment to children and, most notably, combat childhood cancer.
