Editor's Note Hi Key Clubbers!! How have you all been? I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving recently with friends and family as we had a nice four day weekend. This newsletter is extra special as it contains a combo of events and updates from October and November! There has been a lot of big events including Pink Day and the Culture Festival (our Governors Project!) the past two months so be sure to read the articles and descriptions about them. One of my favorite events was the Fall Rally where I got to meet Key Clubbers from Divisions 1-12! I attended a bulletin editor workshop where NY District Editor Junjin presented a slideshow. Shout out to him for giving great tips and snacks at that workshop! As we are nearing the end of this year, be sure to take advantage of the many fun holiday themed events that are to come. To the seniors, good luck on your college applications. And to everyone, keep up the good work and continue giving back to the community with our events. Take care and till next time!

- Rachel Lu

Congratulations to those that got a committee position! This is a great step forward to get more involved in Key Club as committee members will get a glimpse of the inner working of the club as well as develop skills in line with their interests.

MeowSquad 9/23/23 & 9/24/23 164-26 95th St At this small cat shelter completely run by volunteers, key clubbers helped clean the place, feed, and give water to the cats. In fact, they were able to interact with cats throughout the whole shift. Be sure to participate in the future as this is a bi-monthly event!

Youer Wu MeowSquad

On September 24th, I went to the Meowsquad event and all 5 of us made it despite the long commute. The event is on the bottom of queens which is quite far for a lot of people, but the experience I had with the cats makes the long commute so worth. We had a blast with all the cute cats, and we had a lot of fun feeding and tending to them. It was an very educational event since we were able to learn about the dos and don'ts of taking care of cats, and we had so much fun! Throughout the event, we had cleaned, fed, changed litterboxes for all the cats, and helped keep everything sanitary. Meowsquad supplied us with masks and gloves, and even snacks which we were really happy about. We were also able to help treat the sick cats, which was very emotional and educational. Everything was really new to us, but the process helped us connect to stray animals on a deeper level. We had lots of fun!

Henry Li MeowSquad

I attended the MeowSquad event on September 23rd as a project captain. Unfortunately, the timing wasn't great and during our commutes to and from MeowSquad there was a severe rain storm. Luckily, all of the 5 volunteers were able to make it. Due to the small size of MeowSquad 5 was unfortunately the max amount of volunteers they could take. However, in terms of getting to MeowSquad it was more difficult too since of the fact that getting there means either waiting for a bus or walking 20 minutes, unless you arrived by car. Despite this, all of the volunteers that walked still said it was worth it to help and have fun with the cats. Throughout the event, we had done some routine tasks such as cleaning, feeding, giving water, changing litterboxes, and administering medication for the cats. Fortunately, they had masks and gloves which made the whole process much faster. In fact, we even had a solid 30 minutes of time left just to play and give treats to the cats. Obviously, some were just a bit aggressive and scratched luckily there were band-aids and alcohol wipes, but they're all vaccinated and perfectly safe. In fact, most of them are perfectly fine to play with as long as you be reasonably careful. When the event was over, we received some drinks and candy and were finally on our way back home.

#WearitPink Day 10/20/23 BTHS Cafeteria On October 19, key clubbers wore pink to show support for breast cancer awareness. This annual event is always a big success as many members come to the center cafeteria to take pictures, receive candy and accessories, and sign a poster dedicated to this cause. Shout out to everyone who attended! #breastcancerawareness!!

Olivia Mohindra #WearitPink Day

Pink Day was super fun!! On Pink Day, everyone wore pink to show support for breast cancer awareness. Key Club had a table in the center cafeteria, and members could get candy, bracelets, or ribbons during their lunch period. If someone signed up for key club, they could get a prize. If someone signed the Pink Day poster, they could get another prize, and if someone wore pink, they got another prize. We also had props for people to take fun photos with! I was helping out at the table during fourth period, and it was so fun seeing everyone wearing pink. I am looking forwards to next year's pink day!

Annie Chen #WearitPink Day

On October 20th, Key Club held their annual Wear It Pink Day to raise awareness and show support for those fighting breast cancer! It was really heartwarming to see so many people gather around to show support for one cause. During my lunch period (5th pd), there was a huge crowd of students dressed in amazing shades and styles of pink that showed up for small pink pins, bracelets, photos, and to sign the poster with words of encouragement. This moment seemed to signify that even small acts of support can have huge meaning, even if we may not feel like it does! I met a lot of members, even becoming friends with some of them through this event. I've also come to be more aware and knowledgeable about some health struggles that someone or their family might be going through. It may be hard to see on the surface, especially when people tend to hide their pain throughout the day, but small acts of standing in solidarity can be very uplifting!

Kristine Jiang #WearitPink Day

I loved the Wear Pink day to show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness! It was really cute to see everyone wear full pink or small hints in their clothes. One of my cousins has breast cancer so this topic was especially meaningful for me and I’m glad that something so important to me was turned into something everyone was able to share!

Yeyin Li #WearitPink Day

On October 20th, 2023, BTHS Key Club held Pink Day to bring awareness to breast cancer! Members were able to go to center cafeteria and take pictures with all the cute props and poster and even get candies! My friend and I went up to the cafeteria fifth period just for this event! We got to meet a whole bunch of other people who wore pink too and their outfits were just so adorable! It was kind of crowded but it’s okay because the vibes were just immaculate. My friend and I even got lollipops.

Haunted House 10/27/23 BTHS BN5 The tech key participated in SGO’s haunted house! A variety of clubs set up rooms throughout the basement full of spooky Halloween activities. Key club went with a slaughterhouse theme which had props such as a chainsaw, fake blood, and body parts. At the end, we were very excited to see our club win the $100 prize for having the best theme at the event! We thank everyone who voted and attended this fun event!

@bthssgo2024

Connie Liu Haunted House

I went to tech's Haunted House with some friends and we really enjoyed Key Club's room! It was a perfect mixture of spooky and fun after the previous dark and scary rooms. The baby body parts were everywhere and it was kind of exciting figuring out what we were supposed to do with them while getting jump scares every so often in the room. For me personally, it was felt nice to walk around in the dark and try to solve some sort of problem before heading down a dark hallway with piercing screams!

Olivia Mohindra Haunted House

On Friday, October 27th, BTHS had a haunted house in the basement! Key Clu Everyone was looking for body parts in the slaughterhouse, and people were w the event! It was decorated, and there were other clubs that had different roo and more! I went with two of my friends, and it was super fun walking around very empty, Then someone started chasing us. Then, a big mob of people star and then we realized it was just a big group of people screaming because they the haunted house, we scanned a qr code to vote for the best haunted house. super fun, and I had a very fun time!!

haunted house was super cool, and its theme was a slaughterhouse. ing around in masks scaring people. The basement looked super cool during s. For example, there was a circus, a scary doctor's office, a sacrifice ritual, the basement. At one point, we were walking down the hallway and it was d screaming and running towards us, and we were like "Ahh what the heck" ere being chased by the same person who chased us. Anyways, at the end of erall, it was a very fun event, and the Key Club slaughterhouse theme was

NYSOM Halloween Havoc 10/28/23 East Harlem Tutorial Program We volunteered with NYSoM again! This time the event was Halloween theme, fitting for the end of October. During the two shifts, volunteers wore costumes and managed themed activities for many to enjoy.

Fiona Chen NYSoM Halloween Havoc

Many people attended the event including volunteers from Bronx Science and Sty. Volunteers dressed up in different costumes and helped in a Halloween event in East Harlem Elementary School. We helped set up the rooms including the Haunted House and pack up goodie bags for the attendees.

Kiwanis USACF Packing Event 10/28/23 370 Vandervoort Avenue The tech key worked with Mr. Grashow again by helping to load containers for schools in South Africa. The event was held in its usual location at Greenpoint Brooklyn. This event is a great example of how we can give back to others no matter how far away they may be. We thank Mr. Grashow for this amazing opportunity as usual and to the members that attended!

Mary Bhowmik Packing Event

During this event, we had to help Mr. Grashow pack containers full of supplies such as books, clothing, and sport equipment to children who live in Zimbabwe. I went to this even before, but I really love giving back to the community and this event is a perfect way of doing so! I was able to meet a lot of new adults in so many different fields and I got to see how some of them lived their everyday lives and specially how they gave back to the community. Overall, this event was a pretty simple and fun event as it wasn’t even super cold outside and the day went by fast! I would recommend everyone to do this event as you’ll be able to talk to adults who have more insight on the world and you’ll still earn volunteering credit.

Fall Rally 10/29/23 LIU Brooklyn This year, many of our board members attended the annual NY District Fall Rally! There were a variety of activities such as workshops, keynote speakers, service projects, and club training. All attendees were added to a raffle for Halloween goodies as well. We had a great time meeting and connecting with key clubs from all over NY! @bthskeyclub

Olivia Mohindra Fall Rally

On Sunday, October 29th, I attended Fall Rally!! Fall Rally is an event, and members from Key Clubs of divisions 1-12 all attended. Most of the Tech Key's board was there, and I got to know a bunch of people from both BTHS and other schools! It was located at LIU Brooklyn, which is very close to school. The event was broken up into a bunch of different sections. First, we split up to learn about different executive positions. Then, we learned about things like awards. It was very informative! Then we had pizza and chips for lunch. The pizza was very yummy, and the bags of chips were very full, which I appreciated. After lunch, we did a service event, and I made bracelets with Brandon, William, Rachel, and Connie (they are also execs/cabinet board). After that, we learned about the importance of sleep and got extra candy and played a murder mystery game. Then, we did a sing-along/karaoke, which was fun, and then we had a closing presentation. There was a raffle too, and Yeyin from our club won!! But she wasn't there to collect it, so someone else got it. It was funny seeing that happen, since there were a lot of other people who entered the raffle. Overall, Fall Rally was super fun, since I got to know a lot of new people, and the activities were fun too!!

Yoobin Oh Fall Rally

On Sunday, October 29th, several other Key Club executives and I attended the annual Division 9 Fall Rally. Despite being on Key Club for four years now, I have never attended this event- which I now feel is a regret. As I sat down during the Awards workshop, I felt empowered by all the student leaders in the room with me, and I felt motivated to get started on the Awards process with the cabinet board right away. I saw some familiar faces from Cardozo Key Club, and I got to talk to a lot of my board as well! My favorite part of Fall Rally was informally bonding with the cabinet board- we talked, ate, laughed, and made much social media content for our Tiktok! I thought the event overall was very well organized and I’m glad I got to attend it in my final year of high school. Although this wasn’t part of Fall Rally itself, afterwards some members of the board and I went on an impromptu trip to acquire pumpkins for our fundraiser the very next day. Despite the terrible weather, that simply added to the many unforgettable memories Key Club has given me.

Yeyin Li Fall Rally

On October 29th, 2023, NYDKC held Fall Rally where keyclubbers from divisions 1-12 were able to come together to enjoy different types of workshops and hang out! The district was able to raise over $3000 for Kiwanis which is amazing! It was held at LIU in Brooklyn! I met nearly half of the board at this event which is such a good bonding experience as we never officially had one before! They were all so sweet and we took a bunch of pictures and videos together! I was also able to attend workshops such as bracelet making, treasurer, and learn more about LTC and key club in general. There was also free food such as pizzas, chips, and bagels! I loved Fall Rally 2023 and more key clubbers should go next year!

Pumpkin Painting Fundraiser 11/30/23 BTHS 2S14 At the pumpkin painting fundraiser, members were able to show off their creativity and art skills by decorating pumpkins with unique designs! We provided all the materials needed such as the pumpkins, paint brushes, and paint. We enjoyed seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as they painted. This was a great way to celebrate Halloween which was just around the corner!

Yeyin Li Pumpkin Painting Fundraiser

On October 30th, 2023, BTHS Key Club held a pumpkin painting fundraiser where members could paint on pumpkins and enjoy the spooky music too! It was so peaceful as everyone was just so immersed with painting their pumpkins. I saw very cool ones such as this pumpkin with a roblox face! Another pumpkin that I saw was this very cool ghost one. I also invited my friends, Manha and Michelle, to come and they were not so happy with me constantly taking pictures of them but at least they came to support!

I wore a blue tank top to school that day. On Tuesday, it was “Invite and Include”, in which, I invited all my friends to the upcoming Cultural Festival we had and it was a blast! On Wednesday, it was “Dare to Share” where I posted a story on instagram to show all the cute pictures I had with other key clubbers! On Thursday, it was “Random Acts of Kindness” where I opened the door for my boyfriend!! And lastly, on Friday, it was “Connect the Ks” where members were able to connect with the whole Key Club family!

Culture Festival Bths x Stuy x QHSS x Cardozo 11/11/23 Kissena Park Field 12 We had a great collaboration with multiple key clubs at our first ever culture festival! At this event, we had a variety of foods and activities to present different cultures to our members. There were representations of Bengali, Korean, Chinese, Italian, and Japanese culture. Shout out to everyone who attended, we had an amazing crowd that showed up!

Mary Bhowmik Culture Festival

On Saturday, November 11, key club members were able to participate in fundraising for Rooms to Read by trying foods from different cultures that the exec board prepared. As a person involved with creating this event, it was a really stressful journey but I was proud of the end result! Overall, the turnout was good and it was fun seeing friends of mine from other key clubs at that event. Although it was a bit cold, I always enjoy having outside fundraisers and this one was no exception! Hopefully it’ll also happen next year as well.

Yeyin Li Culture Festival

On the 11th of November this year, BTHS Key Club held its first ever Cultural Festival in collaboration with Stuyvesant Key Club, Cardozo Key Club, and QHSS Key Club! For this event, I made cream carbonara buldak and tteokbokki to represent Korean heritage! It was quite chilly that day but I’m so happy that many members still came to support us! There was such a variety of culture foods such as: Butter Chicken with Naan from Bengali, Pasta from Italy, Tiramisu from Italy, Sushi bake and california rolls from Japan, and Dumplings from China. People could also get tattoos, face paint, and even polaroids! I met so many new people from other Key Club boards such as Celina from Stuyvesant. It was such an incredible experience!

First In-person General Meeting 11/13/23 BTHS Library We had our first in-person general meeting this November! It was so nice seeing so many members attend. At this meeting, our board members had the opportunity to present some parts of the slides. One of the highlights was the announcement of the committee application results! We were very excited to have our LTG Anastasia come visit us!! We thank her for making the commute to tech and for presenting for part of the meeting.

LTG Anastasia!

Yeyin Li First In-Person General Meeting

On November 13th, 2023, BTHS Key Club had its first in-person general meeting of this service year in the library! There was so many returning and new members who came to listen to us talk about our past events recaps, new upcoming ones, and much more stuff! We even had a special guest, Anastasia, our district 9 lieutenant, governor give a speech to our keyclubbers! I also presented a slide in this meeting and though I was so nervous, I couldn’t even say trials correctly, I’m so glad I got to speak and practice my public speaking skills!

Holiday Card Making 11/19/23 4003 New Utrecht Avenue With the holidays coming up, we collaborated with My Friends Place NY for this annual holiday card making event! This non profit organization aims to empower underserved communities and build a better future for the next generation. Volunteers were able to contribute to this cause by making holiday cards that would be sent to various organizations around the city.

Jasmine Zhang Holiday Card Making

Hi everyone, I’m Jasmine Zhang and I went to the Holiday Card Making Event. This was the second time I went and again, I found the event to be very enjoyable, since I have artistic skills and I love expressing my creativity. I hope the children find my cartoonish drawings very cute and I hope all of them have an amazing Christmas. I was with there with my other cabinet members like Annie, Kimberly, Aurora, and Olivia (hopefully I’m not missing anyone) and we made so many cards! I made six cards in total and I made a Christmas Hello Kitty Card, a snowman card, Santa snoopy card (my favorite), Christmas party card, bunch of gifts card, and a huge Christmas tree card. Christmas is my favorite holiday and making Christmas cards is a good way to celebrate it, especially if you give it to others! Merry (early) Christmas everyone!

Olivia Mohindra Holiday Card Making

On November 19th, I went to My Friends Place NY to make holiday cards! I stayed for just the first shift, and people who stayed both got pizza for lunch. It was super fun! The people at My Friends Place provided lots of supplies, such as construction paper and glue, and each person had to make at least six cards before the end of their shift. I enjoyed the event because I was able to hang out with my friends and get to know new people, while also helping the community! The cards are going to be shipped to places like food pantries and hospitals. Their goal was to make over 1,500 cards this year! I'm not sure if they've reached it yet though. I'm happy I was able to contribute to that goal though!
