EDITOR'S NOTE

Hi Key Club!

I'm Aurora, the Bulletin Editor for the 2024-25 service year!

It’ s been such a busy month with AP exams and finals; I hope everything's going well! These two months mark the beginning of Key Club’ s new service year, which means a new Executive board, a new Cabinet board, and a year ' s worth of new events to come. A notable event this month was the annual Yaya Tea Fundraiser! I loved talking to other Key Clubbers and getting to know them while enjoying the food!

I’m looking forward to this new year of service, and I hope I’ll get to meet even more of you along my Key Club journey. I’m always happy to make new friends, so don’t hesitate to say hi or reach out.

Yours in service

On April 20th, I went to the baking class in Queens and it was super fun! I had a really great time learning about different types of flour and skills related to baking pastries. I was able to interact with other members and friends during the event, and it was really entertaining. We were able to make cookies from dough we made ourselves and decorated them. Not only that, there were also cheesecake and muffins to try, which were really good! The cookies came out really well and I was able to bring some home. I can’t wait to try this again!

The Yaya Tea Fundraiser was so much fun! I particularly enjoyed the Taro Bubble Tea I bought. I loved talking to other Key Clubbers and getting to know them while enjoying the food! The timing was perfect because it was right after school ended. I'm looking forward to seeing it hosted once again next year!

The AAPI Parade with Better Chinatown event was a chance for many different cultures to celebrate their culture and the amount of diversity in America. There were many fun floats and people who dressed up f the occasion of the parade. I personally was in cha of one of the dragon heads. It was a fun but tiring experience as the dragon head gets very heavy to h very fast while also having to keep moving and entertaining the crowd. There were also many spec guests including the mayor that attended the even and despite some of the technical problems that occurred, they had wonderful speeches.

There were hundreds of volunteers, and we were all assigned different roles, from holding banners to setting up stands. There was also a robot machine of some sort, and it served free coffee! Around us were also some stands that sold cute plushies and all the volunteers were scattered throughout Time Square to help set up for different parts of the parade. My friends and I got the role of holding banners during the ending part of the parade, and it was pretty fun despite how boring the task sounds. We stood on a parade float, and there were other volunteers with us that were tasked with singing karaoke to fill the air with more sounds and music while we represented AAPI month with the banners. The experience overall was lively and enjoyable, and I’m looking forward to volunteering in more parades in the future!

The Garfield Movie Fundraiser was a great event which allowed me to interact with other key clubbers from a different school. Not only did it allow me to interact more with my coheads and treasurer but also the bronx sci treasurer as well! We all watched together as Garfield saved his father Vic from his horrid past on the big screen. The drink and popcorn provided to us was a excellent snack to munch on while watching this heart throbbing movie! The posters made for the event were cute and an amazing way to promote the fundraiser as well. Overall this event helped me bond with other clubmates and created a key club experience which I will cherish.

Shore Road Park Shore Road Park CCleanup leanup

I helped to volunteer at the Spring Park Shore Road Cleanup on May 4th. It was so much fun getting fresh air and enjoying the park views all while cleaning up the park to make it a safer and happier environment. I picked up trash from in and around the park, some volunteers weeded out unwanted and harmful plants, and other volunteers repainted the park fences and benches. This even led to making new connections with others and also with the environment. Sometimes you never fully realize how harmful an unclean environment can be until you actually help to clean it yourself. I loved this opportunity and it definitely inspired me to be more aware of the environment and the positive impacts of having cleanly habits.

The name of the event was Senior Packages, which occurred on May 11th or May 18th. In this service event, we helped create and organize senior packages for their graduation. Not only did we have to make sure each package received all the things, we also had to group them into majors, as there are different amounts of packages for each major. I found this even to be very fun, not a hard job at all ith any of my friends, I met Annie Club Cabinet board!

11th, 2024, members from Brooklyn Club volunteered for the Senior tribution at school! I went with my d for the afternoon shift from 1 PM and we helped package graduation s! In these packages, it includes their case, graduation gown, and their graduation stole! SGO even provided free pizza and drinks for us which was super kind of them! We actually finished packaging more than 2,000 graduation packages. Best of luck to Class of 2024 and Tech Key wishes them the best of luck!

The event I went to was Future World Vision hosted by the Alumni Foundation of Brooklyn Tech. I took the 4pm-8pm shift this year, and I thought that it was pretty enjoyable. I originally wanted to sign up because I really enjoyed volunteering last year at this event since I got to meet a bunch of new people. I didn’t meet anyone in particular this year, but I did help the VIPs with the elevator this year. I met another junior who was also an elevator monitor, and we bonded over the Chinese speaking test. I would definitely volunteer again next year at this event, but I’d probably pick the earlier shift so I’d get to interact with more people.
